I gotta talk about my thunder reppingthat thunder Blue. They have been
exciting in every capacity you could thinkthink of. Got that sweep of the
Pelicans we talked about last week, and now they got the rematch with the
Dallas Mavericks in which, okay, see in Dallas has a nice little history,
(02:07):
right. The last time they cametogether was back when we had kd
and Russ. There was actually anarticle that was printed on the Athletic that
I was like, Okay, Iforgot about the days of oka See versus
(02:28):
Dallas, but at the same timegot your boiler, little misty id right.
That was that was some good times. That was when the Mavericks were
basically at the point of, youknow, getting ready to shut down what
they had and so let's jump intothat series first. So Dallas, okay
See plays on Tuesday night. Uhso this will be coming out right before
(02:50):
it on that day, and we'vegot to look at what things look like.
Right the Max Klebler h Kleber's injuryis gonna be a I think a
bigger component than people oft think it'sgonna affect this series. But OKAC is
ready to go ahead and duke itout with you know, their old rivaly
because I think the last time theyplayed with twenty sixteen, that's when OKAC
(03:13):
made to Western Conference Finals, wasup on the Golden State Warriors three games
to one, and Kadi forgot howto shoot at that point, and boom.
The rest is history. But that'salso sparked the Charlie Ville and the
Wave of beef when he was gettingin the way of Cameron Payne and Russ
dancing. Then you had Mark Cubantalking bad about Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant
(03:35):
stepanin then call him an idiot, which we all appreciated, right. He
stood up for the boy and theguy that was working his butt off,
and so we had a lot ofdrama going on in that. And so
but that was still, you know, a pseudo young team. And then
of course where Carlisle was complaining itwas fun. There was a lot of
getting into it in that, andso I had to give a shout out
to the athletic and their staff, especially Anthony Slater. He put out a
(04:00):
really solid article. I've got thatlink in the description below for y'all to
read if you want to. Butwe'll talk about the matchup now. So
a lot of people I've had totalk a few conversations with folks, and
the question is being can okay Seebeat the Mavericks. And I'm gonna be
honest as a homer and as anon homer, Yes, I think okay
See can win this series. Butwe cannot use this past season's series of
(04:24):
games as a parameter to measure becauseit's only one game that that played where
Luca and Hyrie both played in thatgame and the Mavericks won at home like
one thirteen. If I'm you know, I'm probably lyned to you about that
total, but you know, pointstill stands. Okay see playing Dallas,
(04:44):
they that was the only game thatthey lost, right, they got blown
out in that game, and itwas in Dallas, so one elevens,
that's the exact number. But thethunderbeat the mass w twenty six to one
twenty the first time they played backin December, and Kyrie played that game,
No, Luca, both of themplayed in February and that was the
(05:05):
game that Thunder loss. Thunderbeat themin March at home. Kyrie did not
play, but Luca did, andthen the last game of the season,
nobody played for the Mavericks. Sounfortunately we can't use that, but we
can't use the advanced numbers. Andwhen I went to go dig in this,
I was wondering, Okay, howdoes ok See rank in comparison to
(05:26):
the Mavericks coming into this, right, okayc won fifty seven games Dallas one
fifty and okay See also even thoughthey're not the best rebounding team in the
NBA. Actually they're awful. They'relike twenty ninth. That hasn't seemed to
affect them, just because of theirreally solid defense and their ability to make
teams shoot really bad against him, especially in the paint. Check himself is
(05:48):
going to be a problem solve,a problem for opposing teams and a problem
solving for Oka. See, theyneed him to be at the most elite
level possible if they want to survive. But when I looked at everything,
and I look like I looked atthe numbers, first and foremost, Okay,
see coming in here, defensive rating, they're the only team in the
NBA that's in the top five inoffensive and defensive rating. Based upon that,
(06:12):
Yeah, they're only one top five. Actually, I'm sorry them in
Boston. Boston is number one inoffensive rating and number two in defensive rating.
That was regular season, and so, okay, Sea's up there.
Dallas on the defensive side was downat like eighteenth, so their middle of
the pack at about one hundred andeleven, and Okay, seas up there.
And I actually won fourteen to oneseventeen, and Dallas was an offensive
rating eighth at one seventeen, soone seventeen won fourteen for Dallas. Oklahoma
(06:36):
City sitting at one eighteen and oneeleven in their offensive defensive ratings per one
hundred possessions, which is a goodthing. And OKAC is one of the
highest paced teams out there in theleague. They're number five in the NBA
in pace, so they play ata high pace. They do a really
good job right now. Their reboundingpercentage again is awful for Okay. See,
(06:57):
they're twenty eighth on the offensive side. On the defensive side there twenty
seventh, they're not the most thebest rebounding team out there, and Dallas
in too far ahead of them thoughDallas on the defensive side is that what
uh? They're what twenty first onthe defensive side. On the in the
rebounding and offensive side, they're twentyfifth, but that was also really doesn't
(07:17):
count like the PJ. Washington acquisitionas well as Daniel Gafford. So that's
your two guys that they you know, they added, you know, in
acquisitions or whatnot, and so thatchanges things. That gives them some height,
some big dudes to go down thereand rebound with both of them being
big men, a little different thanwhat Okac's done. So the question is
going to be is can okay Seestop Luca, Stopkyrie as well as rebound,
(07:41):
right, but he might hit meup and was talking about he anticipates
the the Mavericks really going into thepick and roll on Oka. See totally
see it can't even argue with himon that. It appears that that's probably
going to be the strategy. Andit makes sense, right, you want
to get Chet out of the paint, does a really good job of crashing
down and he gets his block. So but when you go into the playoffs,
(08:07):
okay, see, the defensive ratingis tops in the league in ninety
three. They're not very high onoffense, and they're like, uh what
tenth at one hundred and nine pointsix. But that's the thing, okay,
so he's doing very good on thedefensive side of the ball. Here
in the playoffs. I mean, everybody expected the Pelicans to knock off Okay.
See, that was basically all thestuff that I've heard over the last
(08:28):
few said, Oh, the Pelicansare gonna pound them in the paint and
they're gonna beat them, right,I mean, no, no, Zion.
But that was the thing. Everybodysaid, Oh, okay see,
he's gonna go down from that.So I looked at this and okay see
helped the Pelicans to scoring no morethan ninety two points in any game in
this series. It's kind of allI need to know, right. That
(08:50):
told me everything I need to knowabout what Oklahoma City has to offer.
And so now we'll have an opportunityto do this saus Dallas. Now Dallas
is no slash, right, Lukeand Kyrie have been humming. It appears
they are, you know, ona good trajectory. I guess you could
say. But when I look atthe advanced numbers, man, I honestly
(09:11):
think Oklahoma City can go down thereand knock these dudes out. The question
is is defensively, and Mike Dagnauthad mentioned, you know, the most
important thing defensively for him to winthis series is and stopping Luca is that
Lou Door needs to be healthy andon the court. So I'm anticipating that
lou is going to shadow Luca andShay's going to figure out how to keep
(09:31):
up with Kyrie. Right, Justmake sure that you know Kyrie and just
driveling around you like crazy. ButI think Shay will be finding that capacity.
He has a long enough wingspan tocause problems and he can go underneath
the screens while the big man goesover in preparation for you know, pick
and rolls. As long as wejust disrupt everything that Kyrie is doing.
(09:54):
Keep the ball in Luca's hands,in which turns the ball over quite often.
He has a very high turn ofa rate. That's just because he
has a very high usage force thatand I think we'll be fine. I
don't think that Dallas's big men aregoing to be a problem. Right.
They may have about twenty to thirtypounds on chat, but they're roughly in
the two thirty range. They ain'tthat big. They ain't in the two
(10:15):
fifties and two sixties. Where Ithink that we're that the thunder would you
know not do well? Think thunderbe fine. So I'm excited about the
series. Let's go in and let'sget this first up. Actually get both
these wins at home, and thatway when we go to Dallas, things
are a little bit easy selling. So Misi hop in the comments, let
(10:37):
me know y'all think, Okay, see got a chance what's your thoughts on
the Thunder going in this series.I have the Thunder winning it in six
because I think that Dallas can pullout too. I mean, they're good
enough for it, but I think, okay see closes it out in six
games. What y'all got? Letme know? So more NBA awards have
dropped and unfortunately for my Thunder,Jenomern did not win Rookie of the Year.
(11:01):
He went to Victor win Miyama, which we expected. Victor got like
eight ninety eight of the ninety ninevotes for first place, with chet I
think believing getting won and he gotninety eight of the ninety nine on second
place, So that kind of mademe feel like that there was no chance
that chedd had it winning that one. And honestly, I still think that
there's a case for him now.Granted, there's a lot of people out
(11:24):
there that aren't fond of the secondyear rookies winning those awards, and I
totally get it because they've got tospend an entire year in the system and
you know, be able to behealed or trained at the NBA level.
But at the same time, Imean, as his first time playing,
I do think that the rookie deserves. The guy that did not play an
(11:46):
entire rooie season still deserves the opportunityto win that award regardless, because I
mean a lot of these international guysare coming from professional leagues too, so
they're playing at the professional level. They've got professional care and all that.
But Chet, though it's the seasonhere. Fifteen point three points and he
had eight about just under nine reboundsand just under three blocks per game.
(12:09):
It's pretty darn good, right fora rook that everybody had questions about because
of his you know, slender side. Shout out to the skinny man out
there. He definitely makes y'all lookgood seven foot one to a but he's
also a dude that he has apretty solid swagger and he's caused a lot
of issues at the rim and playoffswise, man, he has really I
(12:31):
say, he stepped up here inthe playoffs and you know, first year
really getting to play in the playoffs. He walking in here like he's ready
to rick having and I think thatthat's gonna be one of the key components
for the Thunder when he goes intothis Mavericks game. Right, Like I
could talk about when Bayamo whatnot. But you know, it's cool that Winby
wanted figured he would. The propagamehas been out since he's gotten the league,
(12:52):
and now I'm just ready to seeif he can keep up and live
up to the expectations, you know, being a tall, slender dude having
the handles and the ability to shootfrom three like he does. It makes
sense that everybody likes that Unicorn. We're all excited about that. If you
ever hear me rant about MVP awards, I always tell you the guy that
wins the MVP is the one thathas done something that you know hasn't ever
(13:16):
been seen before, or you know, something very very new to the visibility
of the people. And I thinkthat wouldn't be has given us a lot
of that, So I'm not gonnaeven complain. I think that that's a
good thing for what they're doing there, and so shout out to San antoining
(13:39):
on them. But going into thismatch game, I want to tell y'all
X Factor, who I think jumpsout and I think is really gonna be
check. What's gonna happen in thisgame is they're gonna try their hardest to
get this man out the paint. The more the pain key is the better
it is for Kyrie to finish inthe paint, better for Luca to back
down in the paint. You gottakeep Chet out and he's gonna be the
most important because it's gonna all aboutbe about about how he gets away off
(14:01):
screens and how he gets down there. Right, like I said, he
went into Actually the playoff numbers werefifteen and just under nine rebounds per game,
right shooting, you know, fortysix from the field, thirty from
three rights, anyone from the line, just under three blocks per game.
And his regular season numbers are theones that were better. His regular season
(14:22):
he was at sixteen and a half, just under eight rebounds and you know,
just about three, you know, three blocks. So he actually he's
he's playing consistent going into the postseason, but he's up those numbers in the
block game. Because even going againstit against what was at New Orleans,
we thought that he was gonna getmoved around by Vaichunis. You know,
he was gonna just throw him around, and he was giving him, he
(14:46):
was giving him. Hell, Iwas at one of the games. I'm
just like, dang, like he'sreally fighting with this dude in the paint.
He's causing problems. So I thinkChet's gonna be the one they're gonna
target the most. They're not gonnabe dumb enough to do that. With
lou Dort, he's been showing it. I mean he's a third. He's
third all time in Thunder history onthree pointers, right, and a lot
(15:07):
of people like to let him goahead and shoot threes. He's number three
on the team right, team history, number three. He's number three as
Lou Dort Logan's Dort is number three, which is a crazy stat to even
think about. But I think thatfor the Thunder, the key thing here
is going to be check number oneX factor on all of them, and
(15:30):
then from that it's gonna be thatrotation. How deep into the rotation will
Mark go in the series? He'sbeen running a ten to eleven man rotation
in the playoffs so far against thePelicans, in which he could right,
Dallas doesn't really have any big dudeslike that, So I don't see where
the Mavericks will I mean being honest, where you know, whereas the problem
(15:54):
is gonna be for ocom City,I mean, right, all their big
dudes, I mean Max is outout, you know, Gaffer is around
two thirty five through thirty four,Lively is around two thirty, Powells around
two forty, so they've got chatby about least thirty forty pounds. But
I don't think Am is gonna tryto pound in a pain against them,
because defensively he's pretty solid about that. He'll be able to divert their shots
(16:18):
or block that stuff. They ain'tgonna be that dumb. They're not gonna
take the ball out of the handsof Luca and Kyrie to try to win
this series. Let's just put itthat way, right Morris, You know,
yeah, you know sure. PJ. Washington is two thirty. He's
been out there battling. I donot see them trying to keep the ball,
(16:40):
like I said, out of Lucaor Kyrie's hands. That's just my
personal observation at the way that Dallasplays. So we'll see what Fell decide
to do in this game. Butif anything, Chet needs to step up,
we're gonna need a big series outof him. Shae's gonna do what
Shae does, and I think JalenWilliams is gonna also cook because you know
(17:03):
I mentioned Shae covering Kyrie. Youcan throw Jalen on him as well.
I think Jalen can defend Luka andKyrie and do it just fine. Both
of them are elite scorers, aregonna do it. If you let one
of them go off just to letthe other one go off, and at
that point you just limited their entiregame, That's probably what's gonna end up
happening, right. I mean,Morees didn't even play against the Clippers in
(17:26):
the closeout game, so I'm notconcerned about him really playing. It's gonna
be really big of stopping both Kyrieand Luka Donchez, and I think the
way that they do that keep Shaeon Kyrie, let shed roam and make
sure that Ched is involved as muchas possible. It's probably gonna be the
game where he plays the most defense. And I'm here for it. Just
be available, make it happen, right. So that's why I think is
(17:48):
X factors in this series. Hopinto comments, let me know how I
feel. If you're listening to theaudio, feel free to go to YouTube
channel on comment or you know, hit us up on our fair fair line
for three zero nine you were oneone nine zero six. Love to hear
from you as we talk about it. So all right, let's jump from
those two. I want to talkEastern Conference playoffs, so let's jump into
(18:10):
that real quick. So we gota series, y'all. So as I'm
recording, you've got the Pacers andthe Knicks playing. I'm gonna go back
and rewatch that game. I amvery fascinated about what they have to offer
because it's the Knicks and the Pacers. Guys, we ain't seen this since
(18:33):
twenty thirteen Twinswster thirteen season. Andguess who's on that roster. You had
Carmelo Anthony go against Paul George. That's the last time we've seen Nicks and
Pacers in the playoffs. As weknow, historic rivalry. Both of them
hate each other, both of themfight like crazy. But the beautiful thing
about it is is that it's gonnabe NBA action and battling and all of
(18:55):
that that we would love to see. I am so excited about seeing what
what happens in this series is theone that's probably jumped out the most for
me. It's going to be watchingthose two play. Right. This is
the series that I think I actuallyherb Bermone Jones mentioned as the Knicks are
probably the most happiest team in theNBA right now. I mean, even
(19:17):
my thunder fans, we're all excitedabout being in the playoffs, but ain't
nobody more excited than the New YorkKnicks And they're fans the back of the
playoffs and he won a series.Guys, that's huge. Jalen Brunson's out
here balling, and he's out hereshowing us that he can put the Knicks
on his back and get him somewhere. I had questions to if Jalen Brunson
(19:37):
can do that. I mean,I've always had questions about guards who are
under six foot three winning leading theirteams and championships. The only one we
really had to do that was IsaiahThomas. Right, Steph six' three.
I think that that's about the sizeyou got to be at point guard,
if not bigger, He's the line. But honestly, besides Steph and
(19:59):
Isaiah Thomas, what other small guardhave you seen actually win their team of
championship? Be able to put theteam on their back and do it.
You don't get that. That doesn'thappen very often. And so for me,
I'm just like, man, whatwhat are we gonna get out of
these two teams, what is itgonna look like going forward? And so
(20:22):
I'm just excited to see that we'vegetten this series back. So coming into
it, of course, you gottalook at the advanced numbers. Y'all know
me, I'm a big time nerd. The Knicks are one of the best
rebounding teams in the NBA. Offensivethey're number one at a thirty three percenter.
Defensively seventy two percent, they areone of the top rebounding teams and
(20:42):
even a are the best rebounding teamin the NBA in the regular season right
plus minus wise Pacers offensive wise, they were number two on I'm sorry not
plus minus but rating offensive rating theirnumber two in the NBA. Defensive rating,
the Pacers gave us what's this,Pacers were defensively rated twenty fourth.
(21:11):
But as I'm talking to you allnow, and I said that they're playing
right now on the board, thePacers are right now taking the lead and
they're running with it. There's anychance that the Pacers may walk up in
here and win these games in MadisonSquare Garden and try to push himself for
a sweep. Now, granted it, I do not think that the Pacers
will sweep this series. I thinkthe Pacers are gonna win game one,
They're probably not gonna win Game two, and I think the Knicks steals one
(21:33):
in Indiana and we go into adeadlock too too where now it's a best
of three. If I had togive a prediction for this series, I'm
I'm, I don't know why.I feel really weird saying this, but
I'm actually gonna give it to theKnicks. I give it to the Knicks
in then the Knicks and six,I think the Knicks can close it out.
(21:55):
I am still it's weird for meto believe that Brunson can do it.
But in this first game, they'vegot all their starters in double figures.
And if they walk in there andthey play like that this entire series,
there's a really good chance that they'regonna win it. This game right
now, I feel like it's somewhatof an anomaly. It happens, it's
(22:15):
not the best, but guess whatif they keep doing this? Oh yeah,
there is nothing that's gonna stop themfrom being able to move on to
the next round. Then they'll havethe opportunity to go against the Boston Celtics,
and that would be another historic moment, another historic battle, Nixon Celtics,
something that we've all loved to seefor years. Right. I grew
(22:37):
up in the nineties. I love, you know, eighties and nineties.
Loved watching Boston and Nicks go atit, Nixon, Pacers go at it,
Nix and Heat. I mean,I watched all that stuff growing up.
That was a great time and we'vegot it back. It looks like
some of the quote unquote blue bloodsof the NBA are trying to make their
value return back into relevancy and we'regonna start seeing more fun Western Conference finals
(23:00):
of teams that were that we haven'tseen since the nineties. I mean,
it's no shade to the Milwaukee's ofthe world or Toronto's or anything like that,
but he's nineties. You mean,it was Pacers, Nicks, it
was it was Celtics. It's whatyou were used to. And I'm really
excited to see that we've returned andgot those large swath of viewers back on
(23:22):
here. So I think that there'sgonna be Nicks and six hop in the
comments. Let me know you'all thoughts. We've got to talk about the other
series too. All right, Elijah, y'all, it's gonna talk most East
more Eastern Conference. But when Ireally thought about it, I really want
to talk about the Celtics and theCavs. I think the Celtics are gonna
sweep that series, and I thinkit's gonna be a done deal. So
I'm gonna go back over to theWest because I really think that Anthony Edwards
(23:47):
is gonna is a star. He'sa superstar in this league and all he's
gonna do is continue to rise.I'm kind of terrified about it for my
thunder in the West because I thinkhe is really good. And then he
walked into Denver on Saturday and takesthe W from him. I rewatched the
game Sunday morning because I was onthe road Friday night and Saturday night.
(24:11):
Hey, yeah, he showed upin the fourth. He didn't care.
He said he was gonna win thisgame, and he won it. Dude,
he was cooking. Shout out toAnthony Edwards. That man ken ball
right. And it's funny because Iremember back when I had the Oh when
the first Show was out, whenJimmy was with me. Back in those
days, we were talking about AnthonyEdwards when he got drafted, and the
(24:36):
big question was does he even likebasketball? Right? He talked about he
could go to the NFL and playcorner and all of that and all the
questions was sparked about him and playingbasketball and playing in the you know,
just basketball in general. And thereI was like, man, I don't
know how I feel about this pick. If you got a guy that you
don't even know even likes playing thesport, well, are he's showing us
(24:56):
that he's really good at the sport. At this point, there's like,
there's no argument that you can makeabout how good Anthony Edwards is because he
can fall right finish the season. It's over twenty six points a game,
and to be honest, I thinkthat number is gonna increase as his career
continues. Like I mean, he'sstill only twenty two years old, guys,
(25:21):
And I think he's gonna lead themto the Western Conference Finals. I
think that he has the capabilities ofknocking off the Nuggets. Now. I
do think the Nuggets are going toregroup it into winning Game two. But
I think that the Minnesota Timberwolves canwin this in seven. I actually do,
and it's no shade against the Nuggets. It's just that Anthony Evers walked
out there and won a game aty'all's crib in game one. Now,
(25:41):
granted we've seen this before from youngplayers. Game one they win it,
and in game two through four theylose and they get closed out in five
games from it, in which Denverhas the capabilities to do that. Remember,
they are the defending champions and theywere tied for the number one seed
in the West. That's and onlylost it because Shaye knocked down a game
(26:02):
winner at their crib to give theThunder the tiebreaker. So they deserve the
respect. Like nothing against you.I just think that Anthony Edwards has the
capabilities of doing it now. Grantedhe's only twenty two years old, but
the best part for him is he'sgot a couple of veterans and Rudy Gobert
as well as with Karl Anthony Towns. Now, Gobert is not going to
(26:22):
be playing Game two, which meanswhat the Nuggets gonna win that game and
they're playing tonight. I'm recording thisbefore their game, so there's a chance
I could be one hundred percent wrong. Timber Wolves can end up winning that
game, but I think the Nuggetswin that game. But looking at the
series itself, man, you know, of course gotta go to the advanced
(26:44):
numbers playoff. You know, theregular season, wise, Minnesota as the
best defensive rating and Denver was wastop five in offense, but Denver's also
a number eight in defense. Ithink that both teams are They're very comparable.
The big thing is containing Jokic, and Yokic is still the best player
in the NBA right now. He'sproven it. Those MVPs were no fluke.
(27:07):
Then he goes out and get achampionship. He doesn't win a third
MVP, but he is now inthe conversation of winning it. Granted,
I do not believe he deserves thatthis year. I do believe that Shae
Gil just has done something a lotmore historic that makes him grant. And
that's outside of being a Homer.I don't know. If Shae wasn't on
Oklahoma City, he was somewhere else, and he led the youngest team in
the NBA in NBA history to anumber one seed and a series sweep.
(27:33):
The number one seed piece is literally, to me, the only thing that
makes him deserve it as well asaverage thirty a game, which was second
or third in the NBA, rightbehind Luca. So he finished with the
best record and one of the topscores in the NBA. Statistically, that's
why Shae should get it. Jokisis gonna be up there, but that's
(27:55):
why Shaye should get it. ButI mean, of course we're gonna argue,
it's a lot of things to argueabout. What why should Shae win
it over anybody? I mean, everybody's got their thing. I'm just gonna
tell y'all. Now, when youlook at the numbers, Chase should have
it. Got to ask ourselves incomparison, like Yogic right now leaves the
(28:15):
league in win shares at seventeen, which is a very good metric to look
at to the term who's going toMVP. SHA's right behind him at fourteen
point six, with Yanna's Dominans DematasSabonis as well as Luka Doncic rounding out
at twelve and fifth place. Imean, I get it. Jokic is
(28:41):
the highest. I still think that. I mean, all the advanced metrics
point to just how good Yokich isand statistically he's doing it right, But
I still think that Shay's gonna bethe one. Shaye should be the one
to win it because of the historicalfeat of winning being a number one seed.
(29:04):
But this series is gonna be funbetween the Nuggets as well as the
Wolves, just because we know thatJokic he wants to get a back to
back title. He cares about winning. I mean, he pretends like you
don't care about basketball, but hecares about winning and that's gonna be the
most important thing for him. Andif he can go out there with that,
(29:26):
I mean, he didn't put uphis traditional fifty forty ninety like we
got, but he gave you fiftyeight, you know, fifty eight,
thirty five and eighty one, whichI think I'm gonna be honest, that's
that's some big numbers for him.And he still gave you basically a triple
(29:51):
double, just under triple double attwenty six twelve and then ninasist that man
cooked this year. He had agreat year, and Luca did it is
well, thirty three nine and ninepoint eight nine rebounds, nine point eight
assists. He was out there doingthe numbers that you needed to have.
But Shaye went out here and shotfifty three from the field, thirty five
(30:15):
from three, eighty seven from theline, getting you a thirty five and
six just under what Yannis did, just saying I know y'all know that I'm
quote unquote bias because I'm a Thunderfan, but think that this is the
year where you should get it.But outside of that, I do believe
this series is gonna go probably atleast six. I can see the Wolves
(30:37):
winning two games, but I dobelieve that. I do believe that the
Nuggets are gonna walk in in Gametwo, exert their dominance, and then
we'll see what it looks like whenit goes to Minnesota from there, but
there's a good chance that they canclose out in five, maybe six.
But Anthony Edwards is really good andhe's the dude to keep your eyes out
(30:57):
on. He's probably my favorite playeroutside of Shay Gilges right now, as
far as the young guys go,dude's gonna ball out and keep your eyes
open on him going forward. Attwenty two years old, he's already made
his stamp. Though Timberwolves is histeam. At twenty two years old,
he's taking the reins away from anybodyelse that thinks they got it. This
(31:18):
is his team, and man, that tells you everything you need to know.
Shout out to him. It'll betwenty three in August going into next
season. He's gonna be a pain. See what happens all right? At
this bad boy up put a bowtin it. I want to talk to
you all about NFL Draft. Soinitially I wasn't gonna really divulge in and
(31:41):
like I talked about on the lastshow, sayah, you know draft is
over, ain't much really talk about. We'll probably have more things going down
come, you know, free agencyand all that over the next few weeks.
So as of right now, youmuch to talk about with the NFL.
Right, well, I've been hearinga lot of chatter conversations. A
lot of people have been talking aboutthe Atlanta Falcons picking up Michael Pennix in
(32:04):
the draft in the first round,so much so in the complaints wise,
that we had some guy that I'mgoing to say is a racist one hundred
percent that he decided to call themtwo DEI hires. Now, I'm gonna
say this one time and one timeonly. If you use DEI as a
pejorative, you are a racist.Period. That's just point blank. I
don't care what you think feel seaor sea colors or not. And I
(32:28):
keep it that simple. And ifyou don't understand what a pejorative is,
please go google it, go searchit. Search the word and you get
an understanding of what I mean, because it's nothing about them as de Hires.
I mean. Raheem Morris used towork for the Falcons, so he's
worked for Arthur Blank before he wasthere. I need Kyle Shanahan and him.
He ran the defense, tried toget on the offensive side to learn
some things, work for the Rams. He's got two Super Bowl rings.
(32:50):
He's got one with the Buccaneers aswell as the Rams. He was also
a young, very young head coachwith the Buccaneers and people. He was
with the Buccaneers staff for ever andthey saw something big out of them.
So you know, with that, there was an anticipation that he was the
next young fenom out there, right, and then you got Terry was it
(33:15):
font to not? He's got himselfa Super Bowl ring as well. He
worked for the Saints organization forever. He's from the Saints from old three to
nineteen, well actually twenty twenty fromO three to twenty twenty, so he's
got years of experience there and so, but I've heard a lot of the
(33:37):
arguments, Yeah, you just signedKirk Cousins, why would you go get
a quarterback, you know, whenyou got Cousins, even though Cousins is
old and coming off from Achilles injury, and of course Michael Pennis's older as
well. Totally get why people wouldsay that. But then I asked myself
one question, why, Like whydid they do it? Like what what
(33:59):
was the rationale? I mean,They've given their press conferences and stuff,
but I wanted to look past thecorporate speak and the corporate answers and you
know, the coach speak that theywere giving. It's I was listening to
Bomoni and Dominique Foxworth on fox WorthFridays this past Friday, and Foxworth was
like, really think about it.You know, He's like, I was
(34:20):
trying to think of the same thinkof the angles, you know, similar
to me as I'm trying to thinkof what the angle is and what they're
trying to do. And he basicallysaid, maybe it was just taking a
risk. They got a quarterback that'sinjured, they got another guy. That's
semi injured as well. But yougot an older guy that's more mature at
a position that honestly, you willprobably preferring to play at this age rather
than a young age. It kindof makes sense for them to go out
(34:45):
on a limb and if it works, it does. If it don't,
it don't. And when he saidit, I was like, I didn't
think about it that way. Thatmakes sense, And so for me,
when I looked at the Falcons makingthis draft pick, it appeared that the
Falcons brass. They drafted him high, so it wasn't one of those situations
(35:07):
where they waited until middle of thedraft or late in the drafting. No,
they wouldn't got the quarterback that theywanted. So it appears that they
just wanted him. And you bringhim his maturity, his swagger and everything
there to Atlanta, you're gonna getbuy in from the fans. And I
think the funny part, the thingthat jumped out to me is the fact
(35:27):
that they didn't tell Kirk Cousins, and Kirk Cousins and his team is pissed
that they went out and drafted aquarterback and didn't tell them. And it
basically looked at him and basically said, hey, man, yeah, we
understand that you probably, like youknow, not very happy that we did
this. We guess what, wereally don't care. We're here to try
to win games, and we thinkthat he gives us an opportunity long term.
Your contract is technically for two years, and we're gonna huntre those two
(35:47):
years, which puts Michael Pennock's closerto the twenty five year old range twenty
six year old range before he reallyplays. Okay, that makes sense,
Yeah, puts him at about hejust turned twenty three. He actually turns
twenty twenty four in two days, and so then he'll be about twenty five
(36:10):
to twenty six. But remember it'squarterback. At quarterback, your goal is
to get maybe ten good years outof your quarterback. If you get past
that, then you're doing great things. So if you can get him at
twenty, you know, get himplaying at twenty six and he makes to
thirty six and all he's got todo is throw the ball and stay healthy.
I mean, he's staying healthy isa lot. But if you can
(36:30):
get up to ten years out ofhim, you didn't really good because it's
hard to get a quarterback to thelast longer than that. I mean,
Tom Brady's don't aren't you know,don't fall off a tree like that.
Patrick Mahomes, he's still young,so we've got to wait and see what
that looks like. But go downthe list of quarterbacks, right, I
mean, how many teams have actuallystuck with a quarterback past ten years and
actually did something? I mean,Aaron Rodgers ain't had a Super Bowl,
(36:53):
but he hain't up a one superBowl and he got out on when he
was young. What have we doneseeing from him since Drew Brees he got
his one ring. Didn't give youmuch besides just you know, playoff runs.
Now. Granted, Saints fans dohave an argument from, you know,
some of the shenanigans that happened tothem in the playoffs, but you
know, it is what it is. So when you go back and just
look at all these quarterbacks, that'sgiving you ten years. Man, who's
(37:15):
really doing something besides Brady? Nobody, nobody's winning championships. Now, the
goals to get in the playoffs, getting alaoffs, you're good. We'll see
if Josh Allen can keep that goingin Buffalo. Hopefully they don't run him
out. I mean, you goaround the league, who really has got
(37:36):
that age? I mean, MattRyan was with Atlanta for years. He
got into one Super Bowl n KyleShanahan era, but that was it.
You didn't get that out of Youknow, who's the quarterback for the Chargers
back there when they were with theSandiago Superchargers. You know, You've had
a lot of quarterbacks that have beenin the league for a long time.
I mean Eli Manning lasted past tenyears. He got his two rings when
(37:58):
he was younger, but he gotYou didn't get much, but you got
him to do enough in the middleof his career. Right I think that's
the only thing that matters is howlong and how successful can you be with
your team, which your quarterback canyou can you get six to ten years
good years out of them, andthen you're gonna be prepared to get the
(38:21):
next guy because it's what it seemslike teams are doing anyway. And I
say that. Ryan Rossillo had afantastic segment on his show earlier in this
year. He was talking about thebig problems in the NFL right now is
the quarterback position and not just startingquarterbacks, but backup like they don't exist.
A lot of these backups are soyoung. They're guys that you would
never want to play because teams aren'tholding on the quarterbacks for very long.
(38:45):
They're not keeping backups, career backupguys for years to be able to help
groom the starter. You know, they're not they're not even giving. They're
cutting backups as fast as they are, you know, cutting their starting quarterbacks.
So we don't have this pipeline ofbackup quarterbacks. I mean, back
in the day, we did havegood ones. And this was Ryan's big
point. Back in the eighties andnineties, you had good backup quarterbacks that
(39:07):
you knew if they came in,okay, the teams, team's gonna keep
humming, but you don't need themstarting every single game. We don't have
that today. I mean, there'svery few Chase Daniels of the world and
Josh Johnson's where they're getting eight millionopportunities to go play a backup somewhere and
they're being everywhere. Josh McCown isnot very many of them. And so
(39:27):
go look at your team, lookat the all these other teams, how
many of them have backups have beenthere longer than three years, right,
That aren't young dudes? To keepgetting you released, to put the playractice
squad and all of that. It'skind of a problem. And so for
Atlanta bringing in the young quarterback, hopefully, like I said, you can
get six to ten good years outof them, and then from there you
move on to the next guy.Hopefully you do that and by the time
you get closer to your sixth year, you draft your next quarterback and you
(39:51):
have them sit there for about threeyears and then they play. Because to
be honest, Jordan Love is showingyou it's so much better to have a
quarterback sit for a few years beforeyou start them, because then you get
them that experience they need to beable to really learn and digest the game
and then go out and play. You don't have them panicking starting those number
one draft picks. Man, theyend up panicking. And you're seeing this
(40:12):
with Trevor Lawrence. They started makingthose bad decisions. I mean, usually
when your team is getting a topfive pick is usually because you're really bad
and everything around you is bad.Very rarely do you have those situations with
the offensive line is actually any good, Very rarely. So if you want
to have your quarterback look like DavidCarr where he's got PTSD from getting hit,
(40:34):
or like a Sam Bradford, gofor it. But if you want
a quarterback to last, I mean, look case pad mahomesit for a year
behind a veteran quarterback. It's couldbe what Atlanta's gonna do. And I
think that that's a dang good ideawhen you really think about it. They've
got a young running back and JeanRobinson. They got young wide receiver as
you MEI got Drake London. They'vegot a very nice young squad. They
(40:55):
could go out and win today withKirk Cousins if he's healthy, and then
still be playing for the future becauseby the time Penis is playing, he'll
have at least two more years ofb Jhon Robinson before Jhon gets his first
extension. Same thing with Drake London, and they could be all playing together.
The quarterback is not somebody you needto be there, and you know
(41:16):
that you got to be concerned abouttruly their age, You really don't because
that's not the position you have toThey can play late, you know,
especially if they maintain not getting hitand you know, Pennix is gonna get
rid of the ball. Dude ain'tgetting hit. So you do that.
You make sure he stays up right, make sure he has a good offensive
line, and then give keeping thoseweapons that they have there in Atlanta.
(41:37):
I mean they may be able toget over the hump of being weird,
being bad. All I got tosay is they'll be surprised. Surprised at
the Falcons shot y'all come next season. So, oh man, that was
