E31:From Football to Protests, 49ers Female Sports Photojournalist Kym Fortino Tackles It All

Kym Fortino started out with a passion to document her kids playing sports and it led to becoming an official team photojournalist for the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers. 13 seasons later, she is sharing what it’s been like to tell that story through photography and how football was her savior during her battle with breast cancer. She talks about capturing iconic moments, like Kaepernick’s first kneeling, to powerful images of intense protest moments, such as a woman kneeling before a line of police, and how the movement hits home as a mother to biracial children.
