Speaker 2 (06:54):
Good evening. Everybody, welcome to I'm Told Radio. Uh Tonight,
we're uh.
Speaker 11 (07:08):
Remembering our friend doctor Meldrim.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Tonight we are going to remember Jeff Meldrum. It's going
to be a difficult broadcast at times. I'm gonna try
to hold it together. So this isn't going to be
a show about bigfoot or a show about research or
cryptozoology or science or the unexplained. So tonight we're just
(07:38):
gonna pause and honor Jeff's life, the work, and the
legacy of doctor Jeff Meldrim, who for so many of us,
me greatly included I'm sorry. Jeff was far more than
(08:03):
a you know, a name and headlines or a or
a guest in the documentary. He was a teacher, a mentor,
and to many people, a really dear friend. At Idaho
State University, he built a career as a respected professor
(08:25):
of anatomy and anthropology. But it was his courage to
step into the unknown, to apply the same scientific discipline
to a mystery that most people would just dismiss, and
that made Jeff very unforgettable. Jeff's groundbreaking book Sasquatch Legimate
(08:48):
Science changed the conversation. Really, for the first time, evidence
had been long kept in the shadows was given the
light for serious analysis. He didn't tell people what to believe.
He showed us that the questions were worth asking, the
(09:08):
evidence was worth examining.
Speaker 7 (09:12):
He showed us.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
So many things about the mysteries of the natural world,
especially the mystery surrounding the Sasquatch. I had the privilege
of working alongside Jeff producing the documentary Legitimat Science that
Jeff's book kind of parallel parallels. It was just the backbone,
(09:36):
though Jeff's book was amazing, and now we're working on
We're working on Legitimat Science too, that we both dreamed
about finishing, So we can talk more about that later.
But fight and plans, you know, changed everything. His passing
(09:59):
is left to space that we cannot ever fill. But
it's also left us with inspiration, inspiration to keep us pushing,
(10:22):
keep questioning, keep carrying forward to the missions that Jeff embodied,
to look at the world with wonder but also with reason.
So tonight, many of Jeff's callings, fellow researchers, close friends
will join us to share their stories, memories, reflections of
(10:44):
what Jeff meant to them personally and professionally. So this
is going to be a celebration of his life, his
courage and the community helped build. So I really invite
you to stay with us and join us. There will
be times where if you want to join in, you
(11:04):
can send Jeff jeffl post his email and we can
get you a link, a join link, and you know,
if we can all keep it brief, we can get
many people on. So this show is really for you,
Jeff mayor work continue to guide us always, for no
(11:32):
one will continue to be guided by you. With all
that statelet like to welcome our first guests. I don't know,
you know, in order to bring people on. Everybody has
a great story. I'd like to first bring Adam Davies
on and Adam can sew nicely, maybe even introduce some
(11:58):
of the people we have. It looks like we have
uh I'm trying to look at your friends here. Yeah,
we have a lot of friends. We have Abe from
the Minnesota b r T. I believe we have her
in a Holland we have Moneymaker Alex Pettikov, Jason McLean,
(12:19):
David Ellis and Carl supp and Darryl Denton and so
and Esteban Sarmiento. Anyhow, so let's go ahead and bring
Adam on.
Speaker 6 (12:31):
Adam welcome, Hi, Hi, thank you guys, and that powerful introduction.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
That was hard.
Speaker 18 (12:38):
I don't know it was, I know, but you did it, Doug.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
And that's what I feel like a bothering idiot.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Show, show you care about somebody as a strength.
Speaker 19 (12:49):
We So let me tell you my story about Jeff
Dr Meldram And I know he'd want me to tell
this story because he's told a couple of times during
his presentations.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
But there's several levels to it.
Speaker 19 (13:03):
So I exchanged emails a couple of times with Dr
Meldron Jeff before two thousand and eight, but I really
met him and we got together as a result of
the Monster Quest production. It was in China, so I
had pitched Monster Quest at the time. I'd done a
couple of shows and one in Samatra and they'd.
Speaker 20 (13:26):
Like them, and.
Speaker 19 (13:29):
I said, why don't we do a story about the
year and and there had been a recent sighting of
the Year and the Chinese wild Man, and I thought
it was very interesting story. You know, stories of it
went back hundreds of years BC so it was a
great story, and so they paired me up or the
guys who were organizing it there the producers on the
(13:50):
field paired me up with Dr Meldrom.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
That was decided. Me and Jeff Meldron were going to
go out.
Speaker 19 (13:57):
And I thought, well, I don't really know him, and
I'm not really sure how it's going to work our
dynamic because he was a Latter day Saint, non drinking,
non smoking, and there I am smoked at the time,
drank still drink and not really religious, and we were
(14:19):
sharing a room and I thought, how are we.
Speaker 11 (14:21):
Going to go on?
Speaker 19 (14:22):
We got on fabulously because two of the qualities that
Jeff had were as grace, humility, and also he had
a good sense of humor. And it's the good sense
of humor we're going to touch on, because people don't
always know that, people who've watched his presentations. So when
I thought about what I wanted to say about him,
I want people to understand what a well rounded character
(14:44):
was and so and also he had a massively formative
influence on me because we sat down while we were
in Beijing and we had a talk and I said,
you know, and I hadn't at the time done any
big Foot research. And I said, you know, tell me
about Bigfoot, tell me about Patterson Gimblet, what you know.
(15:08):
Is it worth me coming over because it seemed to
be a very amorphous field and all sorts of politics.
And he said, look, this is why I think it's real.
This is what I think you should do and how
you should approach it. And if it wasn't for Jeff,
I can tell you now Number one, I would have
never done big Foot research. Number two, I would have
(15:31):
never come to the United States other than for a holiday.
And now here I am sat here as a US
citizen in Tennessee. And that the starting point for all
of my life since then has been Jeff Meldron. That
is a formative experience. And he knew this, and we
talked about it because we remained really good friends. He
wrote the forward kind of for my kind of to
(15:54):
write the forward for my second book. But let me
tell you this one point, this one point, because I
know everybody wants to get in, so I just want
to make this one point, which shows just how funny
he is. So we were on when we were filming
the second part of that show. We got some really
good science out of it. By the way, it led
(16:14):
to a collaboration, the first one between and sometimes people say, well,
there isn't science coming out of these, there's fantastic science.
Dr Zoo from the Mugim Beijing Museum of Natural History
and Jeff Meldron collaborated and scientific note based on the
footcast that was presented by a Chinese researcher called dot Jujuan.
(16:35):
It was the first of its kind of was cutting
edge science and revolutionary, and that was Jeff's work after
this show. But we were up on top of this
mountain and this scene was going to be I was
going to use a thermal cam and I was exhausted
(16:55):
because I was trying to work out how to use it,
and all the instructions were in Mandarin.
Speaker 18 (17:00):
I was really tired.
Speaker 19 (17:01):
And it's ten thousand feet were on top of a mountain,
and the idea was, now, I'm six foot. Dr Meldrum's
bigger than I am. He's like six', TWO i, think
and they stuck as in A chinese pup, tense and
he was going to spend the night in that AND
i was going to get like two hours sleep BEFORE
i used. This this thermal on top of the mountain
(17:23):
AND i was AND i just, THOUGHT i just need
two hours Because i'm going to be like doing this
for ages.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
Afterwards and THERE i, am AND i can feel him
against there, awkwardly AND i, Said.
Speaker 11 (17:35):
Jeff jeff was, like what what?
Speaker 6 (17:37):
Happened AND i, said your tash is brushing against my do?
Speaker 14 (17:42):
This and he laughed so.
Speaker 18 (17:45):
Hard he laughed so.
Speaker 21 (17:47):
Hard.
Speaker 19 (17:47):
Yeah so you, know IF i want to distill WHAT
i want to say About jeff tonight is he was a,
person a brilliant, scientist cutting edge. Academic faced lots of,
resistance as everybody knows from academia in order to do,
this but he was a wonderful. Individual he was very
(18:10):
kind to his, wife, children lovely, man and he had
a great sense of. Humor if you knew, him that
was great way of breaking. Barriers so you, know for,
me he's an irreplaceable. Individual AND i, think you, know
we will just have to do our best because that's
what he. Wants so that's What i'd like to say to.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
That thank you so, Much, adam thank. You, yeah he
did have a way to make you laugh and equals
he laughed a lot, Too but he had a charisma so.
Strong IF i even sat Next, JOHN i would start
getting giggly because he just just oozed charisma of. Himself
(18:53):
he just made me smile and you have to experience his,
charisma you have to meet. Him it was just it
was absolutely. Amazing SO i bet you had a ball
traveling with.
Speaker 18 (19:05):
Him, yeah he.
Speaker 22 (19:06):
Was he.
Speaker 13 (19:06):
Was he was a Very and this is the.
Speaker 19 (19:08):
Point he's a very Entertaining he's very entertaining and upbeat,
person you, know and he and he never, ever he
wouldn't Have it was never a question of him compromising
his integrity and who he.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Was but he was always prepared to level with, you
and he'd. Have he enjoyed the. Banter you, KNOW i
tease him sometimes he teased me.
Speaker 19 (19:25):
Back i'm not going to attempt his terrible attempts at
A british accent because Even Dick vandyke would have blushed at.
Speaker 11 (19:32):
That but but he.
Speaker 18 (19:34):
Was he was an amazing.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
GUY i, mean, very very.
Speaker 19 (19:37):
Vibrant and you, know what you've just said amplifies it
because people will laugh and see that one dimension when
he's giving a talk talk for an hour and a.
Half but that's only one facet of his.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Personality he was, Great so you can you can stay
at him love to have you, stay but you can
leave at any. Point we're going to bring on some
other people and you, know feel free to interact. WHATEVER
i don't. Know we're just kind of winging this whole show.
Tonight we've never done a show this. Big let's see
(20:10):
who can we bring up? Next who would be?
Speaker 11 (20:12):
Ready?
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Now it Says Renee, hollins back, there but says device
not connecteds that just her camera?
Speaker 23 (20:20):
Off, jeff, UH i don't think she has either. Connected oh,
okay and then we've Got i'm looking here texture right. Now,
yeah she may have disconnected for a. Minute let's go ahead.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
And Bring Lyle blackburn up And Alex.
Speaker 11 (20:39):
Pettikov all, Right Welcome, lyle and Welcome.
Speaker 24 (20:44):
Alex, hello, Guys Hey, Alex, Hey.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Hey so who wants to go first and try to
Pack jeff into a little ball of? Words, lyle you
want to take a.
Speaker 25 (20:57):
Shot i'll give that a, shot you, know and all
the Things adam, said you, know that's one. Thing it's
just he's so well, rounded just a very smart, individual
knowledgeable about obviously the subject we're passionate, about but so
many other, subjects and he was.
Speaker 13 (21:16):
Humorous you.
Speaker 7 (21:17):
Know for, me.
Speaker 25 (21:20):
It's kind of a surreal thing THAT i became friends with.
Him WHEN i first met him was around twenty ten
at a conference In, oklahoma AND i had started going
to conferences AND i had already Read Legend Meet, science
which was kind of funny Because i'm a. Musician we'd
drive around the tour bus and, stuff And i'd always
(21:40):
be Reading bigfoot books and, stuff and the guys would be,
asking what is.
Speaker 24 (21:44):
That you.
Speaker 25 (21:45):
KNOW i was, like this guy's really, smart This Jeff,
meldrum you. Know and so getting to meet him there
and getting the book signed and things was. Great and
then to suddenly progressively be at to do these conferences
WHERE i became, friends AND i got to watch his
presentations numerous times over the. Years and even THOUGH i
(22:08):
dare say we were, COLLEAGUES i, MEAN i always looked
up to. Him he was on a level that obviously
scientifically and his academic credentials THAT i could never. Reach
but he was always a source of. Learning even when
we were just hanging out eating, DINNER i was soaking
(22:30):
up all sorts of information because you, know he just
had such a vast Knowledge that's what he, did was learn.
Things and so it was so beneficial to me over
the years to be around him and to.
Speaker 26 (22:46):
Enjoy those, times and also the.
Speaker 21 (22:49):
Humor you, know you.
Speaker 25 (22:51):
Don't really know him when you meet him.
Speaker 13 (22:53):
For a short period of.
Speaker 25 (22:54):
Time you may just discuss, academia you see him do a,
presentation but you, know during the course of traveling, around
eating dinner and things like, that you would his humor
would come. Out AND i REMEMBER i told this story
a few times prior to his untimely passing that the
(23:15):
last TIME i saw him in person was at The
West Virginia Bigfoot conference In june end Of june this,
summer and we had done a couple of events together
In june and we were we were it was, Myself
Ken gerhart And jeff were in a car and we
were going down On saturday morning to go into the.
Conference and it's on its big fair grounds and and
(23:38):
so it's just sort of funnels. In we get up
there and there's some kids like taking entry entrance, fees
and they don't know who we, are And i'm and
so we're trying to, say, well we're the, speakers you,
know and they're, like, well it's five dollars to get.
In we're, like, well, look we're on the we're on the.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
Poster this is, us and they're kind of.
Speaker 13 (23:59):
LOOKING i, go see the.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Hats there's two guys a.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
HAT i.
Speaker 25 (24:03):
Go and If bigfoot isn't good, enough where you? Have
the guy over here Is Santa claus And jeff has
waved at, him AND i think they thought we were
nuts and they just let us see the. Gate and
uh so that from then. On, UH i was joking
With jeff the rest of the weekend that he Was Santa.
Claus if we don't Find, bigfoot at least we Found Santa.
(24:26):
Claus BUT i sort of tear up.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Here but, yeah that's, awesome See. Jeff so, apparently uh
there's a lot of people trying to get, on which is,
great and we have fifteen macs and so some people
are getting rejected. There so so maybe it would be
better if people get done and then they click, off, Right.
Speaker 19 (24:50):
Yeah i'll click off BECAUSE i want to make. SURE
i want to make sure everyone gets their. Opportunity, YES
i watch so.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Much, yeah we love, you thank you so. Much AND.
Speaker 25 (25:02):
I guess i'll just you, Know i'll make the. Shortage
it's just such an honor to be on here with
all of you, guys AND i think that we all
aware that That meldrum is up. THERE i, mean this
guy is like you, Know Rover krantz And John green
and made to hndon all these pioneers of the, research
(25:27):
and for a subject that you often hear many people,
SAY i wish mainstream science would take this more.
Speaker 27 (25:35):
Seriously he was our.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
Guy he you, know my.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
Parents WERE i was on A tv.
Speaker 24 (25:43):
Show oh that's.
Speaker 25 (25:43):
Great my dad was really fascinating BECAUSE i was you,
know do you know Doctor.
Speaker 13 (25:48):
Meldrum i'm, like.
Speaker 25 (25:49):
Yeah the respect even to casual casual interest was, huge
and SO i think that no matter what anybody believes
Sask watch is or, Isn't jeff was that guy that
was giving us the. Credibility he was the spokesperson and
he will forever be connected to this. Subject fifty years from,
(26:12):
now people will remember him just like they Do Roger.
Patterson and for, me it was a great honor to
have known him and follow in his.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Footsteps thank you so, Much.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Lyle thank, you thank you. Much we're gonna we're gonna
Click lile off and bring it let's Get Matt. Moneymaker
thank you there he, Goes, Yeah matt's, here so let's bring. Man, Goodbye.
Lyle we're gonna swap you For.
Speaker 11 (26:38):
Matt Welcome.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Matt, Hey, matt can you hear?
Speaker 24 (26:44):
Me?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yes we?
Speaker 14 (26:46):
Can, okay.
Speaker 27 (26:47):
GREAT i didn't know if the mike would work from.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Here it's good to see, You.
Speaker 27 (26:51):
Matt, well thank you so.
Speaker 8 (26:52):
MUCH i haven't been able to go to two conferences
or this and that this. YEAR i had a hip
surgery two weeks, ago and the scheduling of that was
uncertain UNTIL i finally.
Speaker 27 (27:03):
Happened, Anyway SO I, Matt matt let.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
ME i want to interrupt you BECAUSE i just WANT
i Want matt to, know AND i want everybody to.
Know if it wasn't For Matt, MONEYMAKER i wouldn't even be,
HERE i wouldn't be. Anywhere he's the one that introduced
me To. Jeff AND i just tell you so, Much.
MATT i want to say that.
Speaker 27 (27:25):
Publicly, well thank you so, much and on an eye
to you.
Speaker 8 (27:30):
Too and IF i, have like you, Know i'll try
to get to the most important stuff, first and one
of it involves, You.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Doug but.
Speaker 27 (27:39):
Not long after he PASSED.
Speaker 8 (27:43):
I was asked by somebody, like is there a fun
to donate to and like for his family or for,
Something and the guy who was offered that could put
some serious money into, it and SO i, said as
far AS i, KNOW i, mean this was so, sudden
AND i don't know if anybody he's launched anything like
that for the family or.
Speaker 27 (28:02):
Whatever but.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
After thinking about it for a, while thinking, Okay i'll
Ask cliff to see if he can get something going
like for the, FAMILY i, thought you know it would
be if you were going to do something that would
really care do What meldrum would like to have, seen
which is his work being shown to the public as,
much and you, know being able to show the casts
(28:26):
and talk about them like he would did so tirelessly
going around the.
Speaker 27 (28:30):
Country and going to festivals and, conferences et.
Speaker 8 (28:34):
CETERA i, thought, okay if there's a fund where like
people could, pay half the money will go to Like jeff's,
family who deserves.
Speaker 27 (28:41):
It he was supporting. Them but another, portion maybe half
of it go.
Speaker 8 (28:45):
To preserving his preserving all his, evidence his track, evidence
like everything in his lab that's, relevant taking care of,
that making sure.
Speaker 27 (28:56):
That doesn't go.
Speaker 8 (28:57):
Away, obviously the obvious, thing and Even jessin suggested this
in one of the last interviews he.
Speaker 27 (29:02):
Did he, goes a really Cliff berrickman should take over
a lot of.
Speaker 8 (29:05):
That even though he's not like an, academic he still
understands everything very intimately That jeff understood and all the
things that he needed to be point. About, well WHAT
i thought is that there should be a rolling exhibit
that can go around the country with his tracks and
(29:26):
really present that stuff really, well with a big screen
showing him talking about it the best representational, tasks and
make it very interactive in that you'd want the most
accurate lifelike statue for people to come and take pictures next,
to not just kind of the cheesy things you'll see
at some of these like, festivals but like something really anatomically,
(29:47):
correct like a real big one like nine to ten feet,
tall showing their, dimensions and then also putting the casts
in a way that people can come up and put
their barefoot next to a bigfoot cast to show how
much bigger it, is Like roger Pat patterson a photo
Of patterson doing with a footprint. Cast, Anyway SO i,
thought you, know display a, vehicle do thats AND i, Thought,
(30:08):
god probably the best PERSON i know who could do
the most bang up job doing that Is Doug hijack
putting That kia in the exhibit together with the light
and expect.
Speaker 27 (30:18):
THAT i was just, like that's A dougie.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Thing, yeah, yeah we. Could we could could work With
cliff BECAUSE i Know cliff is going to inherit the,
tracks the track casts AS i, Remember.
Speaker 8 (30:31):
Yeah, WELL i, Know, doug if you just cook on
it a little, bit you'll think of like how something
could roll in and just like this can all be
unfolded and people will.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Just be, like, wow well this is this is exactly
how legitimate science came together Through matt's creative.
Speaker 27 (30:49):
Mind, well and there's so much.
Speaker 8 (30:53):
THERE i, mean the think of all the stuff in legended.
Science there's the book that goes out. There you, know
people could buy the book, there but there was the
book that had all a compile a lot of that.
Stuff and then there was the, documentaries THE tv the
versions of. It but a place for that would really
be kind of on the road at festivals where people
are getting together so they can learn really the legit,
(31:16):
stuff not just like the cartoonish like. Whatever the most sensational.
Thing it's gonna sell A t shirt or, whatever but
like the scientific part of, it including a big screen
in the back of this you know vehicle that you,
know you open up almost like a lunch wagon or,
whatever where people could see some of the footage that
he was talking about so. Authoritatively so it's like kind
(31:36):
of a rolling testament To. Meldrum it's almost like you're
going to A meldrum presentation. ANYWAY i think that, they you,
know there's places around the country to probably pay to
have that at their, festival especially if they had had
the statue that the kids.
Speaker 27 (31:50):
Can take take a picture next to.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
Him, yeah it's some to think, About.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Doug, yeah, thanks just WHAT i. Need that would, be you,
know it's it's definitely. Needed it's definitely. Needed AND i
don't know who's going to be The maybe maybe It's
cliff who Knows jeff's wife well and can be the.
Speaker 27 (32:13):
Liaison, yeah he will, be he will, be AND i
will tell him.
Speaker 8 (32:18):
That you, know if you don't build it, YOURSELF i
really want you to oversee, it because you would you
that's your.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Department, yeah it's interesting you say. THAT i was working
on a trade show display the other. Day, yeah, So,
matt WHAT i, mean do you have Any.
Speaker 14 (32:40):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 8 (32:41):
This it's if there was gonna be a biopic Of,
meldrum some kind of like a movie kind of showing
one of The joe's most dramatic and relevant parts of his.
Story it was when he had started to go public
and he was getting a lot of media, attention and
he was, meant certainly in newspapers and stuff across the,
(33:03):
country in getting a lot more pressed about this bigfoot
thing than, say any other professor at that university AT.
Isu as a, consequence there rose up and of course
he was driven by one particular. Guy there was people
other scientists who were infuriated by the attention and accolades
(33:23):
and how much like respect and just like you could
tell that what was driving and they literally tried to
drive him out of the. University and this went on
for a while and it WAS i don't want to
say it was a big, scandal but it was something
that was really happening where there was a push to
move him. Out and so in one of the last
few VIEWS i, saw he was talking about how there
(33:44):
isn't a lot of other people that are in like
a professor at a university physical anthropology kind of seeded
like he was to kind of take over the.
Speaker 27 (33:52):
Baton AND i think one of the obvious.
Speaker 8 (33:56):
Reasons for that is because there still exists this kind
of political situation in academics where if you're a professor
that's getting a lot of, attention like for this subject in,
particular you are going to get attacked by other people
who's that attention or funding or whatever else is not
going to them and they all like, that so they're
(34:18):
gonna try to put you down and put you out of. Business,
WELL i think that that is still, there and that
may explain why there isn't like several other people to, Think,
okay who's.
Speaker 27 (34:26):
The next best person to take this? On and that's
kind of.
Speaker 8 (34:30):
Sad but you, know and the one Thing i'll tell,
You i'm hoping maybe your audience could do this can,
look you know Through he did a lot of, interviews
and one of the things he said in that last,
union BUT i WISH i could ask, him, Say, doug
tell me this, story because he was talking about this
really unusual series of coincidences that brought him into the
(34:50):
subject is said it was just the strange series of
coincidence that like put in, there AND i was trying to, think,
hey what could those have been, well AND i had to, Think,
okay he's studying bipedal, locomotion so he's in the scientific
business of analyzing the evolution of primates that go from
walking knuckle walking or on all fours to upright and
(35:13):
SO i think some of those coincidence was probably driven
by the fact that it was known that outside the
human line and ancestry And homo erectus and everything that
came out Of africa that was off that same line
that gave rest to. Humans outside of, that there was
probably no other primate that involved to be by, pedal
(35:33):
which was kind of the key.
Speaker 27 (35:35):
THING i think that that made their evolution so.
Speaker 8 (35:37):
Unique once they got by, pedal they could carry a
larger brain just sitting with. Humans you can carry a
larger brain if you're balancing it on your head rather
than hanging it, over and you.
Speaker 27 (35:48):
Can walk through snow and you could see.
Speaker 8 (35:50):
It and then the voice box can develop because again
you're balancing your head.
Speaker 27 (35:54):
On your neck rather than like hanging.
Speaker 8 (35:55):
Over so that allows the vocal courts to, develop which
was a precursor for them, Speech so all sorts of
things are like happened once you go bipedle as a.
Primate so, ANYWAY i can only guess now how his
background in that bipedalism evolution may have kept bringing him,
this like well what about check kind of, pivotness what
(36:17):
about that line of? Apes and how about these footprints
that are found all little bit With AND i think
he was probably in a situation where just like, okay
his field kind of led him to context that kept
bringing him back to this, mystery and he got more
and more interested in.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
It and how did you meet? Man how did you Meet?
Speaker 8 (36:37):
Jeff it's funny through THE, ivbc which was like when
The internet first started, happening like around like when there
was a list serve the people are getting, on which
would have been about twenty and nineteen ninety three or ninety.
Four he THE, ivbc which was a list, serve which
(36:59):
is and that it's like you get on a mailing
list and you start receiving these these emails from this
list serve, system and all the subscribers are getting an
email and when they replied to, it it goes back
to the everybody else who subscribed on the.
Speaker 27 (37:16):
List it's like a group.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Chat DID i lose? You, No No, warrior.
Speaker 7 (37:21):
Give the middle of the screen?
Speaker 14 (37:23):
Man, okay.
Speaker 8 (37:24):
Great so it was like a group chat, situation and
so there was a lot of, discussion and of course
every new person who gets on wanted to rehash The patterson,
footage and it was getting so but new people would come,
on and eventually he came on and he was talking
about his, background et.
Speaker 27 (37:42):
Cetera AND i remember at first.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
There was a little tension between him AND i BECAUSE
i think what it was because at one POINT i
didn't want TO i was.
Speaker 27 (37:50):
CAREFUL i didn't want to insult.
Speaker 8 (37:51):
It but when he was like pooh, poohing thinking, well
there's not really enough evidence or enough like, sightings et
cetera east to The mississippi be to think, that that's,
like you, know if he was like kind of putting it,
down which was a common thing for researchers in The
northwest in that era for so, long because they didn't
hear about stuff from back east very, often and so
(38:12):
if you only heard it about it, occasionally it just
doesn't fit with what you'd, expect which would be that,
no they'd be all spread out of east Of, mississippi
and of course now we know they, are so it
wouldn't just be, like, oh there's like a couple In,
pennsylvania but then nothing until you get To. Colorado so
he said, that AND i REMEMBER i, said, listen you,
(38:33):
KNOW i could use a certain word to describe that.
Position and of course the WORD i was thinking about was,
ignorant BUT i, Said i'll be nice to just say.
Speaker 27 (38:42):
Uninformed so him AND i got in his hustle kind
of back and forth about.
Speaker 8 (38:46):
That but it wasn't long BEFORE i, realized, hey this
is a really good ally to have because he really
teaches this stuff and he's really starting to see some
scientific evidence in these.
Speaker 13 (38:58):
Pasts so.
Speaker 27 (39:01):
He was chuggle and he was making a name for.
Himself he was he was bringing that scientific.
Speaker 8 (39:06):
Credibility and then at one, POINT i remember there was
A renee De hindon who was a very colorful, person let's,
say and who would go after his, enemies uh and
and try to destroy the credibility of various. People and
people loved that when he was going after like total
(39:28):
quacks Like Eric beckjeorde and a few other people who
were just you, know kooks or liars or, hopes et.
Speaker 27 (39:34):
Cetera can you still hear me BECAUSE i can't see.
Speaker 11 (39:37):
You, yes we hear.
Speaker 27 (39:38):
You oh, yeah okay. Uh and then one day AND
i had talked To naty Hind it on the phone several.
TIMES i helped.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Him he wanted me to, to you, know have a
lawyer write a letter to these certain production companies so
he could get paid for use of The patterson.
Speaker 27 (39:55):
Stills so he interacted a, lot and he was a
very entertaining. Guy he was very fun to talk to
on the, phone had.
Speaker 11 (40:01):
A lot of.
Speaker 8 (40:02):
Stories but then he called me and, Said, okay now
we've Knocked Beck george kind of chased him. Away now
we got to go after somebody else THAT i need
your help to do. That AND i, said who?
Speaker 21 (40:13):
Who?
Speaker 11 (40:13):
Who?
Speaker 27 (40:13):
Who do we go out As jeff meld Like Jeff,
meldrum what's wrong with?
Speaker 8 (40:20):
Him and he, goes, well he's saying The freeman tracks
are for. Real and the bad thing About renee Was renee,
was you, know wanted all the attention to come to
The bason footage because he makes money off that. Illegitimately
in my, OPINION i don't think he really ever had
the rights to The. Stills he was bluffed everybody that he.
(40:42):
Did and it had set his daughter To Bob gimlin
to release an interest in The stills and then kind
of hold up to, say oh, Yeah gimblin signed over
the rights to The, stills you, know As gimbon had
and he sign.
Speaker 27 (40:55):
Over he didn't always said.
Speaker 8 (40:57):
That he just he wrote he signed something just to
make The hinden go because he was pestering him so much,
anyway so he was trying to push. Out he wanted
to knock down any other, footage especially that and.
Speaker 28 (41:11):
What he told.
Speaker 8 (41:11):
Me he says people he doesn't be, footage and you
don't release it through, him he'll destroy your. Credibility AND
i was, like oh my, god this guy was psycho
like The hindu does making that like, LISTENING i, mean
just like The mafia. Boss he released the footage threw
me Or i'm just well with The freeman. Footage he
(41:32):
wanted to blow The freeman footage. Away he wanted to
make people think he was. Fake he didn't like. It
there WAS tv shows showing, it and he wanted to
say the tracks were. Fake and So jeff feeling that
the path that The freeman footage was, legit and the
tracks from that area were, legit like made him instantly
a mortal enemy of the almighty Renamed. Hindi and SO
(41:54):
i just, SAID i don't, KNOW i, REMEMBER i can't
remember exactly WHAT i said to, him BUT i just,
thought at some, point it's, LIKE i gotta get off
the phone with this. Guy this is just. Crazy and
SO i never talked to, THAT i, mean never dealt
With Nadi hindden after. That and AND i just, thought
this is this is not. Legitimate he's the.
Speaker 27 (42:11):
Wrong guy to go.
Speaker 8 (42:12):
After and and that was, true but it showed, you you,
Know jeff faced attacks OR i guess you, know, aggression
but you, know he had adversaries that he didn't really
deserve to, have especially if you knew such a great
guy so, open so everything like, that and and what
he was saying was le.
Speaker 27 (42:32):
Jed but he had any that didn't like that that
he was.
Speaker 8 (42:37):
Getting he was a more media, Shows he's getting more,
attention and he was becoming an. Authority and the MORE
i watched and saw him the way he presented, himself
the MORE i, Thought, hey that's great that there's an
authority like that out because there's not very many of.
Speaker 13 (42:52):
Them there Was.
Speaker 8 (42:53):
John bindernagel at the, time And Grover krantz was still,
around and And Darris swindler came onto the. Scene but
it was you, Know jeff was a professor at a
university and he had a, lab and you, know anybody, said,
well there's no, evidences no to. Say you, know if
you go To Jeff meldrum's, lab if you really want to,
know and let him show you what he's got and
(43:14):
explain the consistencies in these tracks that were found decades
apart in different parts of the, country then you'll be.
Persuaded and there were of course many people who went
and did, that and they were persuaded that there was
indeed a lot of. Evidence it just wasn't bones. Anyway
(43:34):
SO i think that legacation should be carried. ON i
think should take over to have some stuff in his.
Museum BUT i Think jeff would be looking down and
smiling if he thought that there was a rolling exhibit
that can go around at Different bigfoot. Festivals now that
they are so popular all over the place to a
great degree because Of Jeff meldrum and the legitimacy that
(43:59):
he brought to. It but, Anyway it's this was all
very sudden and none of that planning has, happened But
i'm glad to be able to plant.
Speaker 13 (44:07):
The seed for.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
It, well thank, You. Matt we got to get you
back for an actual show just with you at some,
point and we can really get into some really cool.
History even me and you have a lot of funny.
Stories oh, yeah so so it'd be fun to do.
Speaker 21 (44:26):
That but.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
We've Got alex sitting, here and we've Got. Renee, alex
is there a way that you can even use any?
WORDS i know you Knew. Jeff, well it's it's.
Speaker 29 (44:40):
SURREAL i, MEAN i would talk to you about this
the other, Day, renee we had a phone.
Speaker 11 (44:44):
Call it's like this.
Speaker 29 (44:46):
Constant presence that's been, there this larger than life figure
that's no longer. There it's kind of hard to imagine
a world Without. Jeff AND i Guess i'll just speak
from my experience and as a bit of a younger
person the. Impact i've talked to a lot of my,
friends you, know thirty five and younger that we all
kind of shared this. Feeling BUT i grew up Watching
jeff ON, tv, RIGHT i was a kid of the.
(45:07):
Nineties you, KNOW i started seeing The Monster quest all
that stuff That jeff was.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
On did you See legend Need science was just.
Speaker 29 (45:13):
That might have been the first. ONE i don't actually.
REMEMBER i know at my parents', HOUSE i have view
by the.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Way me And matt pitch that to everybody we could
possibly pitch it to it and it got turned down, Everywhere, yeah.
Speaker 29 (45:27):
Nobody but it was so, Influential and you, KNOW i
went from somebody that Just jeff was like a childhood,
hero and then over the last ten years or so
getting to know him and call him a. Friend various
conferences all over the, country you, know up here on
The East coast and up In. ALASKA a couple of
times got to hang out with. Him we did the
cruise last. Year my wife AND i were a couple
(45:49):
of cabins down from him and his, wife and we
would bump into each other going to the mess hall and,
everything AND i just wanted to share one kind of particular. Experience,
WELL i will, Say lyle talked about his, humor and
so Did adam as, well how funny he could. Be
one of the first TIMES i ever hung out with
him was at one Of Lauren Coleman's International cryptozoology, conferences
(46:09):
and we were going to get a dinner In, Portland
maine at this lobster restaurant and there was this wooden
carving AND i was trying to find the, picture but
this was in like twenty seventeen or, eighteen a wooden
carving of this captain and he had this big white
beard and it was like a dead on looked Like Jeff.
Meldrum so we all, Said, jeff you have to stand
next to the captain so we can get a. Picture
(46:31):
and we got a really hilarious. Picture and it was
just a great. Evening but the one EXPERIENCE i wanted
to share with him that really resonated with me and
THAT i saw through many, events.
Speaker 13 (46:39):
Was how gracious he was with his.
Speaker 6 (46:41):
Time it was just.
Speaker 29 (46:42):
Unbelievable it was A Smoking Mountain bigfoot conference a few years.
Ago we were both, speakers and it was one of
THOSE Vip friday night kind of things where the people
that pay to come and have dinner with various researchers,
investigators AND i happened to be grouped With, jeff and
of COURSE i kind of called. Him he was The
Elvis presley of the bigfoot. World you, know he a
(47:04):
lot of people would come just Knowing jeff was at a.
Conference there must have been sixty people in line waiting for,
him and he would take his time and give each
person five to ten minutes engaging in. Conversation he didn't
just say oh, yes, yeah, yeah he Would it was
it was a very lively discussion and this went on all.
Night and at the end of the, NIGHT i was you,
(47:25):
Know i'm a young, guy But i'm.
Speaker 6 (47:26):
EXHAUSTED i, Said, jeff how do you do?
Speaker 29 (47:29):
This he, said, well you, KNOW i just really enjoy
talking to these, people and you, know they come out
here and they want to see, me and it, really you,
know was amazing Because i've run into a lot of
people these, events and some are more gracious than, others
and some are. Less and somebody with you, know that
that much popularity and that much respect across the. BOARD i,
mean he could, say, HEY i don't want to spend
(47:50):
that much, time but he was always willing to give
his time and that's something that really resonated with. Me
and that's something That i've tried to aspire to do as.
Well and you, KNOW i never very few bad interactions With.
Jeff other than you, know other kind of things with
other researchers that maybe happened on the side at some
of THE q and, a's but, man it was just
(48:11):
a blessing to get to know, him AND i want
to give other folks who have other stories their. Time but,
again just from a younger person's, perspective he was like
that childhood hero that became a friend and now he's
no longer here and IT'S i still can't believe, it but,
yeah we're lucky to have known, him and his legacy
obviously will never be. Replaced but, yeah he's one of
(48:33):
the greats up there with the Four. HORSEMEN i would
even you, know put a spot in for him with.
Them but, yeah rest in, peace Doctor, meldrum and thank
you for putting this.
Speaker 30 (48:42):
Together.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Doug, yeah you're very very. Welcome thank you for showing.
Up alex AND i think we both thought Of jeff
as immortal and JUST i can't even explain. HOW i
just thought he was, permanent like, forever almost taking him for. Granted, yeah,
yeah SO i regret that of course.
Speaker 29 (49:03):
Greatly thanks, again, guys good to see.
Speaker 2 (49:06):
You, thanks thank, You, Renee. Doug have you when was
the last tame you And mad talked.
Speaker 4 (49:18):
MONEYMAKER i sent you a MESSAGE i come.
Speaker 31 (49:20):
OUT i was just going to.
Speaker 14 (49:23):
Text is that what you call?
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Him money? MAKER i always call him money money.
Speaker 27 (49:28):
MAKER i usually just call him.
Speaker 8 (49:30):
Money it's been a hot did you get back TO
i actually was BECAUSE i don't sleep through the. Night,
WELL i was asleep when he texted, me and THEN
i was scrambling to get ready to do.
Speaker 27 (49:41):
This so, anyway we'll talk.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
Later don't sweat, it, Brother chips in the.
Speaker 15 (49:44):
Night it Is.
Speaker 4 (49:45):
DOUG i just want to say again to visit with.
Speaker 22 (49:47):
You but you know when this, happened you immediately came to,
Mind Matt, cliff you, Know AND i just want to
say a moment to just our entire, community how sad
it is to you, know in the.
Speaker 4 (50:01):
Rest of jess.
Speaker 22 (50:02):
Family we send them all of our.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
Love, yeah you, know you know he had the health.
Speaker 22 (50:07):
SCARE i remember in detail talking about. That when you
get a desk, scare you, know that's a mixed blessing
because you kind of get to say your things to
people and then you know you're gone.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
Again it as as that day came and my phone
was blowing.
Speaker 22 (50:23):
Up you, KNOW i don't know all who knew what
was going on ahead of. TIME i had some, knowledge you,
KNOW I, matt when you were talking about my last
in person visit with With, jeff we actually, discussed you,
know as he's taking those last classes and shifting that
(50:43):
and who would be that next academic and having that
discussion of whether it was the whole set of casts
or what part of it going To cliff and and you,
KNOW i don't want to talk, about you, know how
things went, down but as we continue to have, conversations
AS i built my, slides and him.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
AND i overlapped on so many. THINGS i loved running
things by.
Speaker 22 (51:07):
HIM i, Mean, doug you AND i were talking about
our community has lost a, leader a.
Speaker 4 (51:11):
Legend he's a.
Speaker 22 (51:12):
Replacement but what so many people don't realize is the
sounding board This, yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
Exactly that was one of the TRAITS i loved About.
JEFF i could get a stupid diarrhea, idea Call jeff
up and tell him about, it and either he got
excited or he, didn't but he still would, pause and
then he would give you a very thoughtful, answer, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 22 (51:39):
You know WHEN i you'd ask, me, uh AND i
don't know if this is including, this but you, know
and you'd ask me to write something up real.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
QUICK i, MEAN i immediately.
Speaker 22 (51:46):
Think of WHEN i think Of Jeff meldrum and To alex's,
point To lyle's, point you, know To adam even earlier.
On you, know we were all he's a good fifteen
years older than. ME i the legend meets science and
seeing him on the shelves and being the go to you,
know As i'm From South, dakota But I'm i've lived
(52:07):
In seattle more than half of my. Life So Grover
krantz Was Washington, state so everybody over Here grants, Was
grant's was still. ALIVE i dated somebody whose dad was
one of his. Students you, know that kind of stuff
was going.
Speaker 4 (52:18):
On but that's how he was first in my.
Speaker 22 (52:20):
Periphery BUT i, mean it's LIKE i think of an, articulate,
kind open, minded, cautious cautious, scientist AND i think of
the very first time THAT i met him in person
was on Finding bigfoot and, GLEEFULLY i think of the
time WHEN i first Met bob and WHEN i first Met.
(52:42):
Jeff matt can maybe speak to, this BUT i think
the guys were kind of LIKE i think they thought
we weren't, that you, know, oh you, know they're they're
they're going to.
Speaker 4 (52:51):
Hash it out or.
Speaker 22 (52:52):
Something and it was just this as always a, kind
respectful sounding, board and in that every interaction with him
would be you, know even though we didn't agree on
What bigfoot, is What sasquatch, is it would always be
this well and To jeff's, point AND i would throw
it back and Then jeff kindly and respectfully well and
(53:12):
To rene's, point right back at. You because a lot
of people don't realize my first time through, COLLEGE i
was a physical anthropology, major and you, know that's WHAT
i was BEFORE i shifted gears to bears and river.
Science but it was always a treat for me to
nerd out With jeff over my old major and of course.
(53:32):
Sasquatch so but IF i could just take a, moment
like for me, personally he's a mentor a fellow. Scientist
they were both like driven by this genuine. Curiosity AND i,
think As matt was talking about this, later he really
understands that scrutiny and stigma that comes with not just
(53:54):
discussing but Researching bigfoot when you're in the act and
them a, community and he navigated that world with integrity and.
Grace and to spend time with someone like, that to
be able to have that sounding board and nerd out with,
him but to also have a mentor or a friend
(54:16):
who understood what that meant was always an appreciated, comfort you.
Know but even though we, disagreed you, guys we could
go no matter where we, WENT i know that we,
could you, know buck down on that physant background and
really understanding the importance of peer, reviewed evidence based. Inquiry
(54:39):
it made every discussion with him, meaningful, provoking and he
would take he would take that, step and he'd never
got ugly and people would attack him and he always went,
high you. Know and some of those last talks of,
MINE i MEAN i remember seeing. HIM i don't know
what year that, was way back, WHEN i you, know
because if we were filming the, show we didn't have time.
Speaker 21 (55:01):
To go to.
Speaker 22 (55:01):
Presentations but once Like cliff And, boba we're, like we're
now you got to come out and do these AND
i AND, i you, KNOW i finally did And jeff
AND i, overlapped AND i can't remember WHEN i saw.
Them But i've Always i've been promoting. CURIOSITY i don't,
know twenty years And i've had citizen science in my
in my corporate presentations WHEN i do my, speaking AND
I i Saw jeff had pulled that in, there and
(55:23):
we giggled.
Speaker 6 (55:24):
That we were having a meal one night and having
drinks and.
Speaker 22 (55:29):
We're both we've always been these strong evidence for that
scientific gritor data, transparency especially As AI's come. IN i
mean as as he's taken the you, know to, me
the brunt of of you, know putting the, law you,
know getting, attacked As matt pointed, out from people outside the,
community but from within the, community and having that sounding,
board but just also this voice of calmness and because
(55:51):
we all want to jump if somebody's dangling a, Carrot
jeff might be there to be, like calm it down
and run it through and give it so as a
lot of the stuff is been going, on you, know
he really. Was that's where him AND i overlapped about
how do we really get. People it doesn't matter if
you have some letters after your. Name you, know citizen
science is getting, academia because how long have we been
(56:13):
calling out.
Speaker 4 (56:13):
Academia to take us?
Speaker 22 (56:15):
Seriously, jeff you, know myself working in with a lot of.
Speaker 4 (56:18):
People we need the.
Speaker 22 (56:22):
Communities there's there's always been within The bigfoot community such
a disdain you, know to push back at academics THAT
i think citizen. Science he really was on board with
me about really raising that to say to people that's work,
together call for data. Transparency you, know we all can
be a part of.
Speaker 11 (56:40):
That SO.
Speaker 22 (56:42):
I don't, know BUT i just you, GUYS i think.
BACK i got to applaud, You jeff And. Doug you,
know it's it's hard to, talk you, know and it's
when when when you lose a. Friend but, yeah you,
KNOW I i'm you, know talking to him and in
very he's so, humble you, know he's you, know As
(57:06):
i'm trying to thank him for things or talking and he's, like,
oh you, KNOW i love your your open mindedness, approach you,
know to that you, Know sasquatch is something beyond BECAUSE
i will say it's beyond the current rich of. Science you,
KNOW i may not believe it's a biological. Species is
there's something else that's? There and we could talk about
this and how did he say? This he would he
(57:27):
would he pointed out the. Irony how did he, uh
folks think they base they based an opinion of you
on THIS tv, show this EDITED tv, show and they
don't know you've had all these, experiences you. Know and
and he would and he would surmise that so nicely
and saying, that you, know kind of like you got
(57:49):
a bad. Rap i'm paraphrasing, here BUT i like how
he would just do he let chuckle he had and
he would be, like you wrongly portrayed as a cynic
and we need more skeps in this. World and he
was so, on he was really on board with.
Speaker 4 (58:02):
That BUT i don't, KNOW i JUST.
Speaker 22 (58:06):
I i appreciate to What alex was saying And lyle
earlier is that of growing as being an enthusiast and
somebody who you look up to a mentor for me
as you, know as a as another, ANTHROPOLOGIST i just
was an honor to call my, mentor to have my
mentor call me a. Friend and in that moment of
(58:29):
while he's facing these personal, challenges he's trying the tables
and he's thinking this is, Him he's, Like, ree thank
you for your commitment to scientific. Inquiry you, know thank
you for. This you know you make these. Contributions it.
Matters don't give. Up and you know you're doing all
that private.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
Research but most of.
Speaker 22 (58:47):
All he's, like you are honest and keep it. Real
And he's, like keep them, honest, Kid and that's so
AS i think about now that he's, passed you, know
the WAY i can honor.
Speaker 4 (58:58):
Him you, KNOW i Love. MATT i Love matt's idea.
Speaker 32 (59:02):
Very.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
Much, uh you, know.
Speaker 4 (59:06):
We we got to honor.
Speaker 22 (59:07):
Him and, uh, my, my, my my way of honoring
him is to making sure that that scientific rigor and
commitment is maintained in the community and THAT i will
keep the people. Up The Renee sayer will be you,
know being The Renee, sayer not the it's not, real
but the people are keeping it, real you, know calling him,
(59:28):
out you, know taking that.
Speaker 11 (59:29):
Over SO.
Speaker 22 (59:32):
I, just, uh there's no replace in. Him AND i
think of all of, you, especially you, know you guys
who knew him.
Speaker 4 (59:41):
Better THAN i.
Speaker 22 (59:42):
DID i knew him in a different, capacity but he
brought so much to this.
Speaker 4 (59:46):
Community AND i just.
Speaker 22 (59:48):
Wherever he is, NOW i hope HE i hope he,
NOW i, know hope he now has all the.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Answers, yeah, yeah That's i've heard that comment from several.
People no owns all of the answers all the, answer
and that could be do you think in all that this.
Mystery i'm gonna pose this real quick to both of
you BEFORE i give you the boot or you gonna
hang out or.
Speaker 11 (01:00:12):
Whatever but.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
Do you think this mystery is going to be solved
in the next five? Years is it? Possible Even? Matt
what do you, Think?
Speaker 8 (01:00:22):
Matt, Well i've always given the analogy of a dial
on a, gauge and you, know with one side of
the dial being nobody believes, it in the far other
and being everybody believes. It and SO i see The
patterson footage and other things kind of moving the dial
in the direction of everybody believes. It SO i could say,
(01:00:46):
this it's, like what's going to constitute proving? It is
it gonna BE dna not just from one hair, samples
but from a bunch of different hair samples in different
parts of the, country validated by several, scientists et. Cetera
With Jane goodall thought would work like a combination OF
dna plus images plus good photographs or. Videos those things
(01:01:08):
in combination would satisfy not, everybody but it would satisfy
a lot of the scientific.
Speaker 27 (01:01:14):
Community SO i think.
Speaker 8 (01:01:16):
Those things will continue to happen and kind of push
it in the. Direction but until like there's like a
full skull or a fresh, remains et, cetera there's still
gonna be people who are gonna come up with rationalizations
for why that doesn't add. Up and one of the rationalizations,
is as they've always, said Because jeffen pointed, out okay.
Speaker 27 (01:01:38):
At one point that.
Speaker 8 (01:01:41):
One of the unusual things about this is there's dinosaur
species that have been designated just from the footprints that they've,
left like not even fossils of their bones or, impressions
just based on the tracks that were. Fossilized And renee
was is called ichthyology or something some idea of like
(01:02:02):
figuring out the president of analys from traces they be,
Buying and SO i, thought, yeah and he was on that,
basis you certainly have something going.
Speaker 27 (01:02:11):
There but so what's the difference with bigfoot?
Speaker 8 (01:02:14):
Stuff, well with bigfoot, stuff part of the pushback is, that,
well in, theory this bigfoot stuff could all have been
faked in, theory so that gives us the excuse, to you,
know and that's what definition from dinosaur, tracks which you,
know these are. Fossilizs there are millions of years, old
and you can demonstrate, that so you take that part
(01:02:35):
out of, it but then to dismiss the whole thing
based and, YEAH i could have, That and that's somebody
who was kind of people who'd be lazy and not
wanted to listen to What jeff had to.
Speaker 27 (01:02:44):
Say, uh Because jeff could point out it's, like well that's.
Speaker 8 (01:02:47):
Ridiculous we can show that it's really unlikely that all
that sudden, space so therefore you should take all that stuff. Seriously,
Okay so there's that body of, evidence and there's good
photographics stuff to go along with. It There's patterson, footage There's,
freeman there's a few different things that are really kind of.
Speaker 27 (01:03:02):
Unique but then it's like that brings more people over to.
Speaker 8 (01:03:07):
It but one thing that's gonna really help is if
somebody gets some really good clear daylight footage that just
rocks people's.
Speaker 27 (01:03:14):
World AND i think that's that's eventually gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Too you, know how many how many minutes, man how
many minutes to midnight are we on getting better footage
with all of the new technology that's becoming.
Speaker 8 (01:03:27):
AVAILABLE i think probably the most likely way that we're
probably gonna get big big foot. Footage and other, words
the kind of cameras that are out filming all the
time that are in.
Speaker 27 (01:03:40):
Dispersion are actually ring doorbell.
Speaker 8 (01:03:43):
Cameras SO i didn't think probably the, best most mind
blowing stuff that somebody will come in will be caught
on a ring doorbell in some isolated rural place that
a bigfoot is walking.
Speaker 27 (01:03:54):
AROUND i think.
Speaker 8 (01:03:56):
That's that's actually more likely than even a trail can
for for veryous trul, cameras there's they're not as dispersed
out in the woods all year round like people tend
to think they, are and then when they, do they're
they're on deer pass and they're very. VISIBLE i can
spot one a mile, away AND i can avoid.
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
It et.
Speaker 27 (01:04:15):
Cetera but something like a ring camera that's blended into
the AM i hearing an. Echo i'm hearing some strange.
Speaker 8 (01:04:29):
Feedback, yeah turn off your, mind so the, guys because
it's coming back there.
Speaker 27 (01:04:34):
ANYWAY i.
Speaker 8 (01:04:36):
DON'T i can't give you an, idea BUT i know
that more and more, stuff even the final like oh my,
god we finally have the. Proof even though that that
might not happen next, week there will still be more
people having, sidings more people having. Encounters you, know eventually
that will happen with some, reporters and and just the
(01:04:56):
consistency of that will tend to persuade more and more
people that there's really something out there and it's worthwhile
to look.
Speaker 28 (01:05:02):
INTO i.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
AGREE i didn't disagree with anything you. Said, YEAH i
am in the other.
Speaker 22 (01:05:09):
CAMP i, Mean i'm not in the biological. Camp Like i've,
said for how, Long, MATT i will gladly eat a
cold plate of.
Speaker 4 (01:05:17):
CROW i will come down TO i don't.
Speaker 22 (01:05:21):
KNOW i don't think there's a timeframe on. It it's
to me as a, scientist AND i come back to this.
Ironic one of the last CONVERSATIONS i had With, Jeff
he's like the skeptical scientist and then your belief system
something that is beyond the realm of.
Speaker 4 (01:05:33):
Science he's.
Speaker 22 (01:05:34):
In the hence was so much metaphysical, conversations these amazing
sounding boards that were outside of physical, anthropology because for,
me it's nothing in five.
Speaker 4 (01:05:43):
Years or ring cameras or.
Speaker 22 (01:05:45):
ANYTHING i, MEAN i recently hear this Last, june had
an experience on a.
Speaker 4 (01:05:49):
Property. Doug we kind of talked about this thirty some year.
Speaker 22 (01:05:52):
Activity i'm in a, house people are simultaneously hearing something
physically making contact against the, house AND i have another
person outside in a tent and line of. Sight they
don't see. Anything there's nothing on the, Camera so things are.
HAPPENING i don't, know you, know So i'm dealing with you,
know what do you want to call?
Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
PARANORMAL i don't. CARE i, MEAN i hate you. Know
WHAT i want everybody to remember is That jeff AND
i as two.
Speaker 22 (01:06:18):
People he's obviously a doctor of a BUT i have
a deep physical anthropology. Background two scientists can sit down
and be open minded to have a conversation With, okay
these trackways that grow go across a dry lake bed
and then just, disappear how do we explain that? Then
or these experiencings THAT i am having that cannot be
(01:06:40):
explained biologically?
Speaker 6 (01:06:42):
Alone so how long will it?
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
BE i don't.
Speaker 22 (01:06:44):
KNOW i just hope that our community can honor him
by being kind to each. Other that's ALL i have to.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Say, well thank you so, Much.
Speaker 4 (01:06:54):
Rennie yeah you, guys good seeing you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
All, yeah good, time and for doing.
Speaker 33 (01:07:02):
This?
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
Yeah are you gonna take?
Speaker 28 (01:07:04):
Off?
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Matt, Yeah i'm. Gonna i'm gonna leave for the group.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
Here, yeah go. AHEAD i Think bubble's coming on here.
Soon if he isn't eardy in the back, room.
Speaker 27 (01:07:16):
We, say go. Ahead you want me to stick? Around?
Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
No, yeah stick?
Speaker 4 (01:07:19):
Around you do you want us to both stick?
Speaker 7 (01:07:21):
Around or sure you.
Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
CAN'T i want you guys to do what you want to.
Speaker 22 (01:07:25):
Do, okay let us know if you're trying to get
people in the, room because, No i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Not as long As i'm not seeing people trying to get,
in Which i'm, Not we're.
Speaker 11 (01:07:35):
Okay it pops up when someone's trying to get. Knock, yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 26 (01:07:39):
So ken, know my friend, well, uh you, know kind
of bummed out like everyone, else you, know pretty pretty
rough couple of.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Days, so.
Speaker 26 (01:07:51):
But there's not MUCH i can say that hasn't been said.
ALREADY i, mean he was a truly brilliant.
Speaker 7 (01:07:57):
Man you.
Speaker 26 (01:07:59):
KNOW i often told PEOPLE i had opportunities to sit
next to him at conferences many, times and it WAS
i always told everyone that my BIGFOOT iq was JUST
i could feel it like elevating BECAUSE i would eavesdrop
on his conversations AND i was just, like, wow brilliant,
man constant, gentleman you, know always, gracious willing to take
(01:08:21):
the time to speak to anybody about you, know and you,
know even people he disagreed, with As renee, said AND
i saw him spend lots of time explaining the evidence
over and over again to anyone that, would you, know
come up and approach. HIM i like What alex said.
Earlier he thought that he was The elvis of the.
Field you, Know i've used that term. TOO i saw last.
(01:08:43):
YEAR i saw a conference attendees fighting over the right
to drive him to the. Hotel and one time at
a conference he was selling USED t shirts that He
BIGFOOT t shirts that he had, worn AND i was, Like,
jeff are you selling did you wear? These And he's, like, well,
YEAH i washed, them of. Course But i've got so
many Big foot shirts THAT i FIGURED i would just you,
(01:09:04):
know sell them and make a little extra. Money SO i, thought,
okay well that's and that people were clamoring over his
used Big foot. Shirts but SO i Saw jeff, obviously you,
Know i've been a Big foot nerd for many. Decades
BUT i saw him in the late nineties appearing on
DIFFERENT tv. Shows THEN i finally met him in two
thousand and five at The Texas Bigfoot, conference AND i
had the honor of getting to know him over twenty,
(01:09:24):
years worked with him a lot different conferences and other,
things and which led to many great meals together and
car rides and just different. Opportunities BUT i guess the
one Thing i'll say is that SINCE i don't have
a lot of good, ANECDOTES i, mean he would tell
me funny stories like How Eric beckyard would call him
at three in the morning and you, know start ranting
(01:09:46):
on the phone And i'm, Like, jeff why did you answer?
Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
It you, Know but.
Speaker 26 (01:09:50):
Again total. Gentlemen but we did have breakfast together last
year at a, hotel and we it was a, good long,
breath great. Conversation he actually told me the whole history
and story of how he went through, academia the whole
process in every school and what he you, Know AND
i Think matt was talking about this, earlier BUT i
(01:10:12):
remember him saying, that you, know after he returned from his,
mission which of course was a component of his, faith
he was AT i bring him, YOUNG i, believe and
for for whatever, reason when you're going through, school AND
i guess he was interested in, medicine and then anatomy
was the first thing that really caught his. Attention so
he was studying anatomy and really loving. That but at
(01:10:35):
some point when an opportunity at another university came, up
or ACTUALLY i should say, that you, know there's a
lot of competition for you, know you can kind of
put the feelers, OUT i, guess and figure out what
universities are looking for what and what departments he could excel.
In and SO i think this was when he went
To duke for a year and he was studying At
duke that he actually one.
Speaker 30 (01:10:58):
Of his.
Speaker 26 (01:11:00):
Superiors told, him, hey you, know go to the library
and just kind of see what grabs your. Attention and
he walked into the library and he says he picked
up a book on physical anthropology and it kind of
brought back these memories from when he was a. Kid you,
know everyone knows he went and Saw Roger patterson show
the film when he was in fifth grade at The Spokane.
Colosseum but he opened up a book on anthropology and
(01:11:22):
he was just captivated looking at these images of Like
australi epithescenes And homorectus and all these ancient fossil. Hominyms
and that was just kind of the direction he, WENT
i guess for his PhD because he, figured you, know
there was a need at particular universities for that kind of,
expertise and the course later on he focused on a
(01:11:43):
very specific area of bipedalism and. Stuff so, anyways great
loss for the. Field i've always been a Devout crancian
ever Since i've been into this, stuff SO i kind
of Considered meldrum like the next you, know kind of the.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Apostle, well, yeah it was perfect timing really When grover
kind of retired and Then jeff took. Over but we
don't have anybody in the, wings do?
Speaker 24 (01:12:11):
We or do? We do?
Speaker 28 (01:12:13):
We?
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
Man maybe maybe there's somebody you know or somebody you Know, Renee, Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:12:17):
Jeff Had jeff mentioned some. Names there's some up and
COMERS i don't feel comfortable.
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
TO i don't love gives us hope Because i'm not
aware of you know now you mean.
Speaker 27 (01:12:28):
In terms of up and. Comers.
Speaker 7 (01:12:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:12:31):
Yeah in that last, INTERVIEW i posted it on Our
facebook group where he was saying that he Didn't he
would often be asked how DO i get? There but he,
was you, know he was lamenting that there wasn't really
any obvious person that could kind of take on that,
baton and he Said cliff knows, everything But cliff isn't
(01:12:53):
basically Saying cliff's not an, academic so it doesn't have
the same.
Speaker 27 (01:12:57):
Potential and that was was so, good you.
Speaker 8 (01:13:00):
KNOW I i guess for this for the big foot
community is because when people would ask, like, well there
are any like like, legitimate like academic any academic scientists
that take this stuff, seriously you could always point To Jeff,
Meldram and if you go further back in, time you
could also point To bendernagel and De, krantz et. Cetera
but as they all dropped, Off jeff was kind of
(01:13:20):
the last, person and he really represented that professorial sort
of academic who could speak to kind.
Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Of all these.
Speaker 8 (01:13:29):
Things and and, yeah there's not anybody that That i've
heard of that that he. Mentioned he thought was very.
IMPRESSIVE i think there will be again that at some
point when it becomes a little bit more you, know,
Acceptable but there there isn't anybody around right. Now but
thankfully there's a lot of interviews With, meldrum you know
(01:13:51):
WHAT i, mean where his presentations were. Reported he did
so many, interviews et, cetera and he gave this, Book
so what he had to say on this sub is
kind of is still out there and it's documented and
it can still be. Presented he did a hell of
a lot more That grants did a, lot But meldrum
did way more than, him way more Than, Bender, nagle
(01:14:12):
way more.
Speaker 27 (01:14:13):
Than all of.
Speaker 8 (01:14:13):
Them and it's it is, documented is there for people
to refer, to and it's never going to become. Obsolete
all the basic things he pointed out about the tracks
and by the locomotion that that stuff is will still
be relevant for a long.
Speaker 22 (01:14:31):
TIME i think we're also going to have you, know
two points is The petri dish is much. Smaller LIKE i,
Said i'm about fifteen years younger Than. JEFF i Think
i'm doing the, math maybe twelve or. So AS i
was a physical anthropology, major it was already being. Limited
(01:14:51):
it was cleaving into biocultural and. Forensics so you just
by pure, numbers have less physical anthropologists in the.
Speaker 4 (01:14:59):
World so not to say that that we aren't going
to have.
Speaker 22 (01:15:02):
Academics there's going to be some overlap of physical, anthropology
but with some other type of science that is EMERGING i,
mean you can see that a lot of these are,
changing and we need to be open with. That we
need to be, welcoming and we need to be inviting
to bring those people to our community to continue on
with What jeff's.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Doing oh that's a good segue To, amy because that
is exactly What Amy boo. Does she brings together. Scientists. Amy, Welcome, Hi,
doug how are.
Speaker 28 (01:15:36):
You i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Good it's good to.
Speaker 34 (01:15:38):
See this is a sad, day isn't. It i'm feeling
all kinds of feelings right.
Speaker 35 (01:15:43):
Now, yeah, Yeah, hi.
Speaker 34 (01:15:46):
Everybody it's been a really tough.
Speaker 24 (01:15:49):
WEEK i.
Speaker 34 (01:15:50):
Am i'm here kind of as a representative for both
Projects zubok and The Olympic. Project was talking To Shane
courson earlier and talking about how we both took off
to the woods in different parts of the country because
we were both so sad about Doctor meldrum and it's,
Tough it's really. TOUGH i was, Wondering, doug CAN i
(01:16:13):
read something that the first scientists THAT i spoke to
and my co founder For Project zoo book wrote up
that she wanted me to, read and it's kind of
it kind of goes with what we were just talking,
about you, know wanting so badly for scientists who are
(01:16:36):
interested to be able to speak freely about their interest
and about how we want to be The Olympic project
And Project Zoo book and now The Appalachia. Project want
to be part of this circle of people who could
never fill.
Speaker 26 (01:16:55):
Doctor.
Speaker 34 (01:16:56):
Jeff you always want me to call Him, jeff BUT
i can't do. It Doctor, maldron.
Speaker 14 (01:16:59):
Doctor j us.
Speaker 34 (01:17:00):
Footsteps but to try to carry a torch kind of for,
him you, Know but so many of them are still
Like renee you were talking, about are still not able
to because whether you're talking about funding or their, jobs
not being super happy or super pleased to have their,
(01:17:24):
scientists you, know studying this. Topic i'm going to read
this because she's better THAN i.
Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Could, okay do that he got in just one, second, Though,
jeff go ahead and bring three more people up from,
backstage and THEN i Want amy to read the.
Speaker 11 (01:17:40):
Just to the order the, Here i'll bring Up Jason David, babe.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
There we.
Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
Go all, right, guys, welcome but go, Ahead. Amy, okay.
Speaker 34 (01:17:56):
This is a and she's a primate zoologist and she
was the first scientists that she AND i were. Talking
it started with her group of primate zoologists and primatologists
set their zoo back in twenty eighteen and it just
kind of kept. Growing so there are a lot of
academics that are. Interested it's just a matter of how
(01:18:17):
public can they. Be and we just want to keep
going with Doctor bindernago and Doctor meldrum's hope that it's
going to be less taboo in the.
Speaker 14 (01:18:26):
Future so here's what she.
Speaker 34 (01:18:27):
SAID i just hope he knew how appreciated he is
and will always, be not only for everything he was
able to, accomplish but for all of us and so
many others in The bigfoot community who live in the,
shadows not by choice but by. Necessity Doctor meldrum had
the courage to speak honestly to a community that never
really wanted to hear. Him he was the truest definition
(01:18:51):
of a scientist and we will miss. Him i'm trying
not to, cry But, renee you were kind of speaking
To it wasn't just people in academia that we're against,
him but a lot of people in The bigfoot community,
too and that's a, shame AND i hope that changes
that people with all different kinds of ideas can at
(01:19:12):
least you, know talk to each other and stop thinking
that they know. Everything so Doctor meldron would be the
person that could have acted like, that and he never.
Did SO i personally am going to miss him. Terribly
Like shane, said there's a big, hole you. Know in
The olympic, project he would drop everything to go help.
(01:19:34):
Them and With Project Zoo, BOOK i emailed with, him
talk to him on the phone all the. Time he
came on when he, could but he was so, busy you.
Know but if there was a new scientist that wanted
to join, US i would run them by, him and
he was excited and he would ask, me you know
who he? Got what are they? Doing CAN i have their?
Speaker 14 (01:19:52):
Email and.
Speaker 34 (01:19:54):
He's A he is never going to be. Replaced BUT
i just wanted to offer a little bit of hope that,
there that there are, academics there are are scientists who
are very interested out, there and you guys here all
know that the public might not know, that but let's
keep let's keep making it less taboo so they can
(01:20:15):
speak up as.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
Well that's well. Said And, AMY i, mean, uh the
world Of bigfoot owes you a lot because what you're
doing is really. Amazing and took a lot of courage
too to do what you're doing. Together all these people
up and you've you've managed to just keep, everybody you,
(01:20:38):
know you keep a schedule and you just keep plodding
forward and you keep adding new, people so you're making great.
Progress to come, on M.
Speaker 36 (01:20:53):
I couldn't for including me.
Speaker 34 (01:20:55):
Here it's a real, yeah well thank.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
You we really Appreciated. Abe didn't you have Doctor jeff
booked at your conference This?
Speaker 37 (01:21:07):
October This october he went he Passed.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
October, Yes and this Is abe Del real from The
Minnesota Bigfoot Research. Team was good friends With, jeff.
Speaker 37 (01:21:23):
You, know As alex was, saying being in between the
sixties and you know the thirty year olds being in
the also watching him growing up ON tv and everything
like that. Thing and that's a real. Moment BUT i
finally have the opportunity to.
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
Meet joff.
Speaker 37 (01:21:43):
And then it's you, know it's like when you're watching
wrestling and you found a hulk holding the passway and
you were, like oh my, gosh you, know jee Doctor
mellodam was he was that Hulk Holgan, like oh my,
gosh he was more Doctor. Meldree so you, know he
was absolutely a pillar of science and a wealth of
(01:22:07):
information THAT i Don't there's this one time we were
sitting around In michigan at The West Branch Michigan's Bigfoot.
Days this is probably back in twenty thirteen, now and
we were just sitting around and we were just talking
about the different somebody asked if bigfoot has different chambers
(01:22:28):
like ungulate, would and he, goes really don't, know you,
know it would take different things to break down different
food to sustain itself and get his nutrients and. Stuff
AND i was just, like right away a mile of
mine was. Blowing but you, KNOW i just talked With
jeff this Past july From, Remer. Minnesota lit were bigfoot
(01:22:51):
fust of all this going, on and just to kind
of catch up because somebody said that they were working
with him, something you, know, Right SO i Called jeff
and this guy who's like, sorry you, know he had
a kind of double double back out and there was, like, yeah,
okay it wasn't going to Find SO i CALLED i Called.
Jeff this guy's you know his, Name bomber was, LIKE
i don't know who he. Is but my most funniest
(01:23:16):
moment With jeff was actually just this Past OCTOBER uh
at THE nb seed and after the, conference a few
of US uh went out To, Reamer. Minnesota it was,
HIM i And Scott nelson linguist and on our right,
Back jeff is sitting next to me in the passenger,
(01:23:36):
seat and we were here and him AND i we
look at each other AND i looked back real, quick
And scott's kind of passed. Away so we have a
good chuckle like.
Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
That So jeff Was jeff was.
Speaker 6 (01:23:50):
Sleeping, No, No Scott nelson, Was scott, Was scott was
me And.
Speaker 37 (01:23:56):
Jeff we looked at each. Other we kind of had
a chuckle in the moment like, that and so words
were exchanged and we kind of.
Speaker 6 (01:24:01):
Laughed scott.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Was scott's kind of a funny guy.
Speaker 37 (01:24:03):
Too and and Then i'm, driving you, know AND i
got real sign AND i look over At jeff and
he's not, himself AND i don't know who is my
company or, what but you, know we had an action
bag week and these. Guys jeff was an absolute truth
when it came to his, time as somebody once, mentioned
(01:24:26):
and he WOULD i believe it Was Alex uh that
he would give everybody that will come to his table
as much time as he, could but he wanted to
fit everybody that comes to his table in and give
him that. Time and he wasn't like hurrying up just
a sign or anything like. That he really engaged in.
Conversation he, was, uh you, know he was a great.
(01:24:47):
Mentor he was a great. Friend i'd call him confiding
and like you you, know he was you saying that
ideas and pops pop off of. Him AND i also
bought some things. Off and it was just such a
just such tremendous. Loss he was a friend to all of,
us a mentor to a lot of, us somebody we
(01:25:09):
all could talk with very. Easily and he was just
such a given man all the way about and how
we did it and conducted his. Research that that type of,
research that scientific discipline needs to be withheld throughout The bigfoot,
community absolutely needs to be withheld throughout the Rey quick.
(01:25:29):
Community on how you enter any kind of a possible research.
Area you, know he has to kind of treated like
a crime.
Speaker 11 (01:25:37):
Scene it has to be.
Speaker 37 (01:25:38):
Conducted you have to watch us you don't contaminate the
evidence if there is anything that is out, there you, Know,
uh you can't just be going out with theories and.
Thoughts you have to collect the. Data the proof is
going to be in the, data and all that has
to be. Scrutinized and that's what exactly he. Did that's
(01:26:00):
exactly what Doctor. Meler and we need more people looking
at things the way he looked at, him and we
need more scientists to come forward and getting in fear
of scrutinized either so we can further this field of
research and have the. Answers and Doctor meldon was absolutely
leading the, way absolutely the.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Way thank, You, ABE i really do appreciate you coming on.
Speaker 11 (01:26:28):
Lost for.
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
Both we have to give you the boot Because i've
Got Estemon sermiento who you, know, Friend, yes And i've
GOT i want to bring in AND i can't because
you get too many people kick me. Out, Yeah i'm
gonna kick you out because you. Won't you won't get
mad at.
Speaker 8 (01:26:44):
ME i Just, Doug i'm gonna have to go. TOO
i Bet i'm an hour longer THAN i THOUGHT i
was gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
Be, okay, Man thank you for thank you coming. On Thanks,
Abe we're gonna try to Get we've got more people
to get, on uh and we will talk soon to
both you.
Speaker 7 (01:27:01):
Guys very.
Speaker 27 (01:27:02):
Good thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
Again all, right thanks, man.
Speaker 4 (01:27:07):
All, right CAN i just say real?
Speaker 22 (01:27:09):
Quick AND i know he was saying, withhold but he
was meaning, upholding, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
Scientific and, okay we Got. Esteban let's Let esteban in
welcome at the bottom there is thank You esteban for.
Speaker 14 (01:27:26):
Waite i've been waiting here since say.
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
O'clock that's. Good i'm.
Speaker 7 (01:27:31):
GLAD i want to go to.
Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
Sleep this Is Esteban's. Sarmiento esteban is also a, scientist
is an, anthropologist and he worked for The American museum
Of Natural history for many, years and he was in
legitimate science number.
Speaker 38 (01:27:56):
One, yeah, WELL I i guess aside from, bigfoot you,
Know jeff was a colleague of, mine so we wrote
papers on things other than, bigfoot you. Know AND i
guess everybody knows That jeff had an interest In.
Speaker 14 (01:28:19):
Can you hear me, now AM i?
Speaker 28 (01:28:20):
In?
Speaker 14 (01:28:20):
Yeah jeff had an interest.
Speaker 38 (01:28:25):
In, footprints not just big, footprints but other. Footprints so
we wrote a couple of papers on. Footprints he also
like worked on the feet of, primates so we had
written a paper on, feet and we also worked with some,
fossils AND i think there's a paper of already pithec
is that me and him wrote. Together and it, actually
(01:28:46):
all in, all it's like almost ten papers THAT i
wrote with. Him it's really quite a.
Speaker 7 (01:28:51):
Lot AND.
Speaker 38 (01:28:55):
I, guess you, KNOW i could SAY i was shocked
when it, happened but at our, age it's sort of.
Speaker 14 (01:29:01):
Expected you.
Speaker 38 (01:29:02):
Know you don't know if you're gonna live five years,
more you're gonna live thirty years. More, yeah and things
can come to an end.
Speaker 14 (01:29:09):
Tomorrow.
Speaker 11 (01:29:11):
YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Was introduced to you By, jeff were you, yes don't
you remember? Now jeff is the one that introduced.
Speaker 14 (01:29:24):
Us, YEAH i Knew.
Speaker 38 (01:29:25):
JEFF i Met jeff in The patagonia In, argentina you,
Know and and there was some guys in bicycles wearing. Suits,
Uh AND i, said you, know those are Your mormon
friends and, uh you, KNOW i, said they're. Elders and
when the guys came, BY i, said you, know you
(01:29:47):
guys must be from uh uh so, like AND i
said it In, english you, Know and you, know they
were In, argentina SO i didn't expect anyone to talk
In english to, them especially not with The New york.
Accent so they were a bit. Surprised and, obviously you,
know But jeff wasn't that surprised because he probably had
(01:30:07):
figured out too that they must Be, mormons or why
else would they be there wearing suits and riding.
Speaker 14 (01:30:13):
Bicycles you know they're. Elders, ANYWAY i can just say.
Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
It so you've Known jeff for a long, time like since.
Speaker 1 (01:30:24):
For a long.
Speaker 14 (01:30:25):
TIME i can say one thing is he was very,
honest and he was also very.
Speaker 38 (01:30:34):
Straight and it really was a big joke when they
stopped us at the. Border, well it's, like you, know
it's just so funny that of all the, people they
would Say jeff had the cocaine in the.
Speaker 35 (01:30:49):
MIRROR i, mean how.
Speaker 14 (01:30:55):
Stupid well they they. Searched they didn't search. Me they Searched.
Speaker 38 (01:30:58):
JEFF i don't know if you, remember LIKE i, had, like,
yes a glad bag full of, plaster but the powder
so it looked like it was, coke you. Know and
AND i told those, guys you, know it's a shame
they didn't stop me last week WHEN i had the
real keyl of.
Speaker 14 (01:31:15):
Cocaine AND.
Speaker 38 (01:31:19):
I remember those guys WHEN i came, back they wanted
to search, me BUT i had already gone through the border.
Before but they Searched, doug they searched a, meldrum they
Searched doug's son, anyway with, meldrum they looked through his
stuff and they, said this little, MIRROR i guess it's
(01:31:40):
one of these mirrors that you, use like in the
morning to cut your your beard or, whatever so you can.
See and they said they had had traces a. Cocaine
so from that from then on on the, trip he
was known as Doctor.
Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
Coke and See jeff had just bought in that little shaving.
Mirror forced, well.
Speaker 14 (01:31:58):
He said that supposed to believe?
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
That, huh.
Speaker 14 (01:32:03):
Supposed to?
Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
BELIEVE i would tell THE i told The canadian. AUTHORITIES i,
said the man doesn't even drink coffee or. Tea he,
doesn't he doesn't drink, liquor he doesn't. Smoke he certainly
ain't doing.
Speaker 38 (01:32:16):
Cocaine, no but he confessed That i'll have a mountain
dew if he's feeling sleepy in the.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
Car, oh, okay you know.
Speaker 14 (01:32:23):
MOUNTAINS i didn't even cocaine caffeine.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
DRINK i didn't even know he did, that BUT i
know we were at that border a long.
Speaker 16 (01:32:30):
Time, yeah that was and it was you, know it
was the Story jeff and me and just confess where
all those drugs are and we'll let you guys go
and Doctor bombeck, remember, yeah back he was good fun.
Speaker 14 (01:32:45):
Too it was a good.
Speaker 1 (01:32:47):
Group it was a good.
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
Group, yeah it was. Fun but, yeah, anyway it was.
Speaker 14 (01:32:53):
Forever.
Speaker 2 (01:32:55):
No well that's that's one way to look at all
good things do come doing.
Speaker 38 (01:32:59):
It i'm happy THAT i Knew, jeff and you, know
aside from the, stories AND i always used to, LIKE
i just always used to poke a little bit at,
him you, know.
Speaker 14 (01:33:14):
Not just not just for my, fun but also you,
know for the for the attention of.
Speaker 38 (01:33:19):
Everybody so like we were at a, meeting if we
were at a meeting and you created a little bit
of discussion With, jeff it would make, people you, know
stand up and.
Speaker 14 (01:33:29):
Listen so he was always good at you, know in that.
Speaker 38 (01:33:33):
Respect SOMETIMES i kind of made arguments a little bit
greater than they, were so you, know you get a
little bit of a kick from the crowd and that
that sort of.
Speaker 30 (01:33:43):
Thing like he.
Speaker 2 (01:33:44):
Was he was the kind of guy he could be
in a room full of cigarette smoke and he never.
Speaker 14 (01:33:49):
Complained he wasn't a.
Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Complainer, yeah he never complained about. Anything. Ever he was so,
okay hang on a, Second. Jason, Sorry i'm not trying
to ignore. ANYBODY i see, everybody And i've Got carlos up,
Yet i've Got. Rusty we can see. Y'all we're gonna
get you. ON i appreciate.
Speaker 38 (01:34:10):
What you can go now unless unless you, Know honey
wants to engage me, MORE i can.
Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
Go you can. Go we don't.
Speaker 14 (01:34:18):
Care, yeah Because i'm kind of sleep.
Speaker 37 (01:34:21):
People.
Speaker 14 (01:34:22):
Huh, yeah you, Know i'm not as young AS i
used to. Be And hon sleep an app. Today.
Speaker 2 (01:34:29):
Yeah, no but we're we're just we're glad you. Came
jeff's glad you.
Speaker 14 (01:34:32):
Came, Yeah i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
Sure and so so what are your last? Words Did?
Speaker 14 (01:34:37):
JEFF i don't know we were AT i THINK i
saw him in was It june Or may?
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
Y jeff In?
Speaker 14 (01:34:48):
Ohio, No, NO i saw.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Him.
Speaker 14 (01:34:50):
Afterwards he came To New jersey to give a, talk.
Speaker 38 (01:34:54):
And we were talking about the The chinese, fossils, uh
because they had a reinterpretation of their dates that really
don't jive that well with their. Morphology SO i was
asking him about, that you, know, anyway that's the last.
Thing and THEN i told, him you, know i'd see
(01:35:15):
them you, know see them in two weeks that we
were supposed to have a meeting In New york and
he was supposed to be, there but he's not going
to be there Now, Johnston New.
Speaker 14 (01:35:29):
York there's a. Meeting yeah, yeah, Yeah well all, right thank,
you you, guys have a good. Night huh, yeah take, care.
Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
All, Right jason tell us YOU'RE i believe you're having
me follow that.
Speaker 13 (01:35:50):
Story i'm, sorry, SORRY i will so let me start.
Speaker 39 (01:35:54):
By saying, this Doctor meldrem AND i were not, friends
like we weren't LIKE i we We he'd spoken plenty of,
times many many, times who was always very, cordial who
was always very. WARM i loved talking with, him but you,
know our relationship was he probably would like he would be, like,
oh it's that, Guy like that's. It SO i Don't
my stories would be remarkably, boring and probably everyone who's
(01:36:18):
ever spoken with him would have a very similar. Story
WHAT i will, say, though IS i don't Think i've
ever told you. This so my archaeology professor was actually
a student of Doctor. Krantz So i'm sort of a
academically a grandchild Of Grover, krantz and so this was
(01:36:39):
sort of SO i heard all of those stories About
krantz BEFORE i ever got into bigfoottery at. All and
When i've sort of got, in sort of fell backwards
into all. THIS i found Doctor meldrum AND i was
looking at his work AND i WAS i remember reading
(01:37:00):
a paper that he didn on the on the on
the morphology of of the actual of The Patterson gimblin,
film right where he broke it all down the The,
Sorry i'm having to keep my mind straight on.
Speaker 1 (01:37:14):
This one.
Speaker 39 (01:37:16):
On the proportions of the bones in the. Structure as an,
ARTIST i was making the same. CONCLUSIONS i was having
the same, thoughts and it just struck me that here
was somebody doing really good work in this in this,
field and he just and he stood out as a
as a jewel in this, community as someone who was
(01:37:39):
showing us how to do the work. Correctly and so
WHAT i would like to say is less who's the
Next Jeff, meldrum but rather that we should all become
the Next Jeff. Meldrum we all need up our, game
and not just the people on on you, know on
(01:37:59):
this the. Camera i'm like to everyone watching the, show
everyone who's ever going to watch this, Show we have
the opportunity right now to take what he did and
and really call us to a better line of. WORK i, Know,
doug you And i've had this discussion a, lot AND
i are probably ms HOLLAND i don't know. HER i
(01:38:22):
don't want to be like a. Familiarity we're probably more
in the same wavelength on. That but that having been,
SAID i still think better science if we're all doing better,
science if we're all out there, saying how Would Jeff
meldrum do? This how would Doctor meldrum approach? This if
we brought all of that, sincerity that, honesty and that
(01:38:45):
level of commitment to the, GAME i think we will
have that, answer whatever that answer. Is and not just
in this in the in the realm Of, bigfoot but
all Of cryptoi's zoology and the. Parallelm we can bring
that level of, commitment that level of, SINCERITY i think
we will start to really genuinely unravel a lot of
(01:39:06):
these mysteries and have better conversations to come to much better.
Conclusions so it's not really a, story but rather a
CHALLENGE i would like to bring to. Everyone it's time
we don't need to look for the next Doctor meldrom
we need to be the next Doctor.
Speaker 2 (01:39:21):
Meldrim that's well.
Speaker 11 (01:39:23):
Said yeah, Yeah but.
Speaker 39 (01:39:26):
On that, NOTE i will take my leave BECAUSE i
do want other people to come up and tell their
stories and and and just talk about this great man
and eulogize them.
Speaker 1 (01:39:35):
APPROPRIATELY i will see all of y'all next.
Speaker 6 (01:39:37):
Time Than Jason jason my.
Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
Kid do you Know Jason? Ken oh, yeah, yeah you'll
get you both From, Texas.
Speaker 26 (01:39:50):
Texas, yeah, YEAH i met him a few years. Ago
well it's been probably been a lot longer than that,
now time, flies, Right but, yeah fellow Fell.
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Texans all, right who's got their mic? On jeff.
Speaker 11 (01:40:05):
Was making noise back, there making the.
Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
Noise if you're not if you're, not if you're not called,
on turn your mic off or the mic the mic
gods will get. You so we're gonna get everybody going.
Here what do we got?
Speaker 11 (01:40:20):
Next david ellis everybody on the screen?
Speaker 40 (01:40:22):
Now?
Speaker 11 (01:40:22):
Everybody, oh everybody's.
Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
Up we Got, Bal we Got, bal WHO i had
a great conversation with this. Morning we Got, rusty and
we Got Rene.
Speaker 22 (01:40:35):
Hi.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
RENNEE i just thought maybe that was a cardboard cutout of,
you one of Your hollywood cardboard. Cutouts you just stuck
it there in front of the. Camera. David you, KNOW
i know you Knew jeff obviously very. WELL i know
you were friends With.
Speaker 6 (01:40:55):
Jeff, yeah we, TALKED i would say lately a.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
Year hold, on hold, On, david we're getting bleed through
of somebody's. Mic there we, Go, jeff you got everything under. Control,
okay go, Ahead.
Speaker 41 (01:41:15):
David, Sorry, YEAH i can just echo everything everybody said
about him being a kind gentle man and always taking
time to talk to, you regardless of what it was
that was on your.
Speaker 6 (01:41:29):
MIND i think one of the things that for me.
Speaker 41 (01:41:36):
Is the undeniable fact that he brought legitimacy to looking
into The bigfoot.
Speaker 6 (01:41:43):
Phenomenon his.
Speaker 41 (01:41:48):
His, acumen his ability to see things that other people
didn't in the footprints and be able to explain that
is a testament to his ability to defend a. Position
once he convinced himself that there was legitimacy in the,
footprints he was all. In and when a man Like
(01:42:11):
jeff is all, in it's very very hard to argue with.
HIM i, mean he he took it to the f
degree and would always rebuct people's. Rebuttal so he knew
he knew what he was talking. About he brought that
legitimacy and made, it but he did.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
It in such a Nice, yeah yeah he. DID i
mean an argument With jeff would be like just two
guys whispering.
Speaker 21 (01:42:41):
Right.
Speaker 42 (01:42:43):
No he.
Speaker 41 (01:42:45):
Quite OFTEN i would show him some things and he would, go,
no that's not that's not what we're looking.
Speaker 14 (01:42:50):
FOR i would, go oh.
Speaker 41 (01:42:51):
Dang so he would teach, me you, know how to vet,
evidence And i'm thankful for. That always true to his,
ideals he never. Wavered so, again that's what makes it
credible for us to be out in in.
Speaker 6 (01:43:10):
The field looking For.
Speaker 41 (01:43:11):
Bigfoot one of the things THAT i also thought about
is that he was at just about every conference The
bigfoot conference that was made available to. Him AND i,
know through recordings and through, shows his, uh his ideals
(01:43:33):
and his methodology are going to live on. Forever nobody's
mentioned yet The Relic prominent inquiry that's still up and
that's still, running and that's still going to go. Strong
so we can we can teach ourselves get a bit
from what he has. DONE i can speak to that
(01:43:55):
sense of. HUMOR i don't, Know, jeff did you GET
i sent you an email that had a cartoon it
might be fun to throw that. Up everybody here know
Who Don martin From Mad magazine was?
Speaker 6 (01:44:12):
Magazine but ever heard Of Gary? Larson, No Gary larson
on the Far.
Speaker 43 (01:44:17):
Side, No, well, YEAH i KNOW i know that.
Speaker 2 (01:44:20):
Cartoon, Okay SO.
Speaker 41 (01:44:21):
I kind of mashed two cartoons together and it's showing
one Of Don martin's characters and they would always have
kind of floppy, feet and he always had him walking
in kind of a compliant. Gait and SO i Showed
jeff this picture of him when he was like maybe
(01:44:44):
ten or eleven years, old Reading Mad magazine and looking
at that and going, say wait a, minute people don't
walk that. That so it's, uh and he got he
got quite a kick out of. That so, yeah that's
just the kind of the funny side Of, jeff.
Speaker 6 (01:45:04):
Who is a real.
Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
Guy.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
Yeah, oh his sense of humor was so. Neat so
he loved.
Speaker 41 (01:45:11):
It, Yeah i'm gonna bow, out and there's lots more to,
say but there's lots of people here that want to
say something.
Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
Else, Yeah, well thank you so, Much. David the work
you're doing In sound.
Speaker 32 (01:45:26):
Is.
Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
Amazing david is going to be launching a, PODCAST i
believe on this network called unknown sounds and him And
Johnny manson are gonna end up with a really cool
podcast that's going to be very educational and very scientific
coming up.
Speaker 6 (01:45:44):
Soon include anybody that wants to.
Speaker 2 (01:45:48):
Help, yeah so and.
Speaker 4 (01:45:50):
Give me a ring.
Speaker 44 (01:45:51):
Please all, Right i've been back out. THERE i was
working With alex a little bit and we were talking
a lot about what you're. Doing So i'm also gonna
MAKE i know you're. Saying it's cool to stay on, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:46:02):
BUT i just love you. All thank you, Again doug
And jeff for doing, this.
Speaker 41 (01:46:07):
And david from you and already bye Bye, David, bye
good Bright.
Speaker 1 (01:46:15):
David there we.
Speaker 2 (01:46:17):
Go all, Right, uh let's see rusty even very even
even too. Patient BUT i know you AND i know
how patient you, are so that's why you get to wait.
LAST i do the, best but go, ahead just you,
know lay out what you're.
Speaker 18 (01:46:36):
Thinking, well, Sure so you, know my relationship With Jeff
meldrim was perhaps a little different than than most people,
here at least. Initially it was in the sense THAT
i approached you more as a colleague than as a bigfoot. Person,
initially So i'm an m d uh And i'm a
gonoclogic oncologist by, training SO i treat women with our he,
(01:47:00):
DID i just retired, recently treat women who have pelvic.
Cancers so one of my research, interests as far as that,
goes was in the effect of radiation in chemotherapy on
bipedal locomotion or walking in. Women SO i started searching
for that in back way back in the early, NINETIES
(01:47:21):
i guess it. Was and this one name kept coming,
up and that Was Jeff meldrum At Idaho. State who you,
KNOW i had no idea who he was at the,
TIME a, right SO i, figured, okay you, Know i'll
reach out to him and we can talk about, this figure,
out you, know if he can answer some of my
questions so. Forth SO i, did and it turned out
(01:47:44):
he was very. Nice we had a fairmountain in. Common
he AND i were almost exactly the same. Age he
AND i were almost exactly the same point in our academic,
careers and we had both seen The Patterson gimlin film
at ten years old in the initial theatrical run and
had kind of an interest in, that so We it
kind of blossomed from. There so we went back and
(01:48:07):
forth about various, things AND i would ask. HIM i
had some ideas about you know, WHAT i thought certain
parts of the creature in The Patterson gimlin, film uh
WERE i source Of and so he would critique me
and you, know shoot me. Down i'm, good shoot me.
DOWN i needed to be shot. Down but, anyway we
finally kept, saying you, know we're going to get together
(01:48:29):
one of these, days you, know because we'd traveled a
fair amount for work for academic. Stuff but it never you,
KNOW i never went To, pocatello who you know who
work goes To. Pocatello and he kept, saying you want
to come to see me In New. Orleans but we
just we just couldn't work it. Out until about five
years AGO i managed to break free from another meeting
(01:48:51):
and go over To poketelo and see, him met him
in his, lab and we talked for a good. While,
actually my wife AND i both went over and met,
him and he also along the, way and at that
time talked to me about actually What Matt moneymaker was
saying about how his academic career had been impacted by
(01:49:12):
his interest in The bigfoot. Phenomena, he LIKE i, said
started out about the same TIME i, did but he
was denied academic promotion for a number of, years and
denied pay raises and denied research funding from his. Department in,
fact there were individuals within the institution that AND i
(01:49:34):
won't say, who but they actively tried to get rid
of him because of. That, well he survived all of,
that and we would. Talk he AND i would talk
about the sort of the trials and tribulations of academic,
politics which are at least as bad as national. Politics
and so he finally made it to full professor of
(01:49:54):
level many unities he should, have. Honestly and we're talking
about family because he had HAD i think it was six.
CHILDREN i had, four so we you, know we had
both had lots of. Kids so we would talk about
that and many other things in addition to. Bigfoot he
was very good and he was funny that everybody's mentioned. That,
(01:50:17):
so LIKE i, said he AND i were almost exactly
the same. Age so one TIME i was talking to
him and he was on like a it was like
a conference, call and he had two or three of
his uh like, THERE i guess they're grad students or
something on that we're listening, also and we were both
online and we both had our faces online and he
mentioned something about being my, age and he mentioned to
(01:50:39):
his grad students in that dead pan manner.
Speaker 30 (01:50:42):
That he HAD.
Speaker 18 (01:50:44):
I used to look young like that, too and you,
know everybody laughed at, that so we got a big
kick out of.
Speaker 40 (01:50:51):
That.
Speaker 18 (01:50:52):
HEAR i actually talked to him after he had the
health scare when he was on the cruise last, year
talk a little bit about, that you, know AND i
tried to kind of talk him through the medical aspects of.
That BUT i had not heard about this most recent,
issue you, know the brain, cancer SO i don't have
any information about. That this was this was all news to,
(01:51:15):
me you, know when we all heard that he had.
Died so at any, Rate, yeah he was a, colleague,
friend Fellow bigfoot enthusiasts for a variety of, reasons and
AND i will miss, him to be, honest you, KNOW
i didn't know, him maybe as well as some other people,
here but he was a good. Guy he had an
(01:51:36):
open mind as an, investigator, which unfortunately in academics these,
days that can be a rare. Characteristic SO I i
am terribly disappointed that he's, gone and hope that we
all see him again.
Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
Someday, yeah, YEAH i, know. That i've seen lot of
pictures with you And jeff together at various. CONFERENCES i
know you're a. PhD do you have you ever thought
about trying to apply your skills as a medical doctor
(01:52:13):
to this? Mystery on some? Level?
Speaker 18 (01:52:16):
Boy That's he AND i talked about, that because you,
KNOW i would.
Speaker 2 (01:52:20):
Ask i've got? Ideas were you?
Speaker 7 (01:52:22):
Rusty?
Speaker 18 (01:52:23):
Oh, Okay i'm. Listening you, KNOW i normally retired last,
year Which jeff AND i talked about.
Speaker 13 (01:52:28):
TOO i, said, hey how.
Speaker 14 (01:52:29):
Long you going to keep doing?
Speaker 18 (01:52:30):
This there were for a lot of reasons he wasn't
ready to, Retire but, anyway he would talk about he
AND i would talk about, that you, know how could
you come at this from another academic? Background? Yeah and you,
know at some points he would get discouraged because he
had had grand students who would come to him and, say,
(01:52:52):
LISTEN i really like what you, know what you've done With?
Bigfoot how COULD i make that an academic career?
Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
Myself and he would be very.
Speaker 18 (01:53:01):
Frank with. Him and, so you, know if you make
an academic career Of, bigfoot you're you're in a, way
you're kind of sabotaging. Yourself his advice to them was
to get their, degree their, PhD their, emphasis their thesis
on something related but not directly, bigfoot in other, words
(01:53:23):
like hypedal, locomotions and then pick up The bigfoot end
of it after, that because it will be very difficult
even to this day to be accepted in an academic
or university setting if you come across as The bigfoot.
Scientist you, know it's very hard to do. It so
(01:53:44):
how would you do it as an M. D you,
know one thing mds.
Speaker 14 (01:53:47):
Have we have a little bit.
Speaker 18 (01:53:49):
More protection because you, know we could walk away from
it and generate, money you, know, ourselves whereas PhDs can't
necessarily do. That so we have a little more and
a leverage in a sense over you, know the academic
communities than the then the pure PhDs. Do so you,
(01:54:12):
Know indy could do, that you, know at age sixty,
SEVEN i don't, Know I'm i'm gonna do. That but
Although i'm willing to listen to, You i've.
Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
Got i've got the perfect thing for. You i'm not.
Joking it's absolutely. Perfect it's right in your area of.
Expertise so we need.
Speaker 18 (01:54:30):
To, talk all, Right, yeah let's talk right.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
Here, Sure thank you so, Much rusty you can hang
out or. Whatever, uh let's see. Here, yeah, yeah young
Out John badger and Uh. Val VAL's In. Michigan, john
you're In. Minnesota let's get you guys front and. Center.
(01:54:54):
VAL i don't know if you even Knew. Jeff maybe you.
Speaker 40 (01:54:58):
Did, NO i.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
DIDN'T i didn't have had a huge effect on you because, oh,
yes you're like the scientific.
Speaker 45 (01:55:05):
Guy well you, know it's it's interesting to sit. Here
and first of, all hello. Everybody my name Is. Val
i'm From. MICHIGAMA i guess that's what The Native indians
used to Call Michigan, michigama but from The Great Lakes.
STATE i listened to the all star panel that you had.
Here people are, wondering where's the Next Jeff meldrum coming?
(01:55:29):
From right, There i'm looking at. Him every every one
of these, individuals men and women in secession that step up,
here listen to these. People these are the. Ideas this
is what it's all. About it's bringing your. Ideas it's
bringing your personal unique skills to the to the. Forefrontier.
(01:55:49):
Everybody everybody's got a hand in this. Game everybody. Does
everybody's got a, skill everybody's got a certain experience base
that they bring to. This one of the gentlemen were
talking about they were talking about looking At. JEFF i
call him Doctor. MELTRUM i got this thing about addressing
(01:56:12):
people with, distinction especially like. This it's a it's a
professional distinction that he. Earned so Doctor. Meldrum according to
this gentleman that you just had on From, Minnesota dog
you just had him out, here he says that you
look at these these these sites like a crime. Scene,
(01:56:35):
really even a person that studies drama and artists, artistry,
uh you know people that study that AND i love
the ARTS i. Do they teach these these students very
early on about, motifs about, patterns and that's WHAT i look.
At one as a former law enforcement, investigator that's exactly
(01:56:58):
WHAT i look.
Speaker 1 (01:56:59):
AT i look at.
Speaker 13 (01:57:00):
Patterns people need to look at.
Speaker 45 (01:57:01):
Patterns and somebody else was talking about footprints and.
Speaker 1 (01:57:06):
STUFF i sat.
Speaker 45 (01:57:08):
Back and developed four or five databases And i'm looking
at data points and data sense and What i'm looking
for is. Patterns and to, me this is incredible. Stuff
everybody in every state province that's involved in bigfoottery should
be doing.
Speaker 2 (01:57:26):
This everybody is, okay but well so what's cool with
you is you apply your police avel was a police
officer and an investigator and, detective and so he applies
those skills to looking at the, data to you apply
to ye. WITNESSES i would imagine locations kind of that
(01:57:49):
crime scene That abe was talking about. Exactly so he's
kind of The Jeff meldrum of crime applied to the
Big woot.
Speaker 45 (01:57:59):
Mystery, WELL i didn't have a. PhD i graduated From
Central Michigan, university the Poor Man's.
Speaker 1 (01:58:06):
Harvard so.
Speaker 45 (01:58:11):
You, know everybody that comes into, this into this, realm
has their own, skill their own experiences to lend to,
this to this. Community and for that, Purpose i'm so
gracious and so honored to have known Doctor Jeff meldrum
(01:58:37):
BECAUSE i was captivated by his. Intellect, yeah, seriously this
guy had so much to.
Speaker 1 (01:58:44):
Give, oh he was so.
Speaker 45 (01:58:46):
Brilliant and for the short time that THAT i was
familiar with, him you, know, LISTEN i take that as a.
Blessing it was a, treasure you, Know and for that,
REASON i say rest in peace and god.
Speaker 1 (01:58:59):
Speed that's WHAT i got to say about.
Speaker 45 (01:59:02):
This it's been it's been a it's been a, long
terrible roller coaster week.
Speaker 24 (01:59:08):
For me.
Speaker 45 (01:59:09):
Emotions it's just it's, been it's been a rough. Week
i've Never i've never experienced anything like this. Before And
i've been to plenty of funerals And i've eulogized many
many right services and, stuff and just SOMETHING i just doesn't.
Speaker 1 (01:59:27):
It doesn't bode well with.
Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
Me by by the, Way, jeff BEFORE i, forget Bring Michael.
Shoe he only has his camera, on which is, fine
but he's. There there he. Is he's the Invisible Michael,
shoue who is a very dear friend of mine of
many many. Years he is the publisher of The Legenimede science.
Speaker 11 (01:59:46):
Book or the.
Speaker 2 (01:59:47):
Original he was the one that took the book that
was worked on and got it. Published, Okay so Hi,
michael hang, On Hi. Michael can you hear? Me? Michael?
Hello OH i don't hear.
Speaker 21 (02:00:06):
You.
Speaker 2 (02:00:06):

Speaker 11 (02:00:14):
Story some microphone.
Speaker 2 (02:00:17):
Problems, Yeah so what you're gonna want to, do just
like try your cell phone or try your. Computer we
really wanted to SO i hear, Him, michael you can hear? Me,
yeah there we. Are we are you can't see. Me
(02:00:38):
we don't we don't need. This there you are where
he just popped? Up, no he didn't.
Speaker 11 (02:00:43):
Up, yeah we can still hear.
Speaker 13 (02:00:47):
You this technology is is. Amazing, yeah, okay can you
can you hear?
Speaker 24 (02:00:55):
Me?
Speaker 14 (02:00:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
Here so if you're using your, phone get, close, Sir
well my.
Speaker 46 (02:01:02):
Phone the problem might be that it's trying to connect
my phone and my computer at the same.
Speaker 6 (02:01:07):
Time, oh, yes that doesn't disconnect my. Phone and see if?
Speaker 2 (02:01:12):
Good that's actually. GOOD i figure that out too the
other day with another guy.
Speaker 7 (02:01:18):
In the.
Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
Meantime Hi, John Hi. Carl, hey you guys are so.
Patient it doesn't even look like. You. JOHN i know
you so, well and it does not look like you
for some. REASON i don't know the HAT i, Can't
(02:01:39):
so what the hell you're?
Speaker 20 (02:01:40):
Wearing?
Speaker 2 (02:01:40):
Ahead you got a full head.
Speaker 1 (02:01:41):
Of, Hair, yeah BUT i don't know wearing a hat?
Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
Today, michael are you?
Speaker 11 (02:01:49):
There can you hear?
Speaker 37 (02:01:51):
Me?
Speaker 13 (02:01:52):
Yes You're you just can't see?
Speaker 2 (02:01:54):
Me?
Speaker 11 (02:01:55):
Correct don't you know that we don't need to see?
Speaker 27 (02:01:59):
You even.
Speaker 2 (02:02:01):
He's a handsome velowt.
Speaker 11 (02:02:03):
Face for radio as they, say that's exactly.
Speaker 13 (02:02:06):
RIGHT i used to.
Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
Do, Yeah So michael Just i'm gonna just tell you
a little bit About. Michael he obviously Knows jeff very very.
Well they worked together quite a. Bit But, michael by
chance is my. Neighbor, yeah it's kind of. Weird, yeah
it's just, weird like like next like one house between
(02:02:30):
his house in my. House that's how that's.
Speaker 13 (02:02:32):
Weird, well actually there were no houses when we first.
Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
Met oh, yeah there were no houses.
Speaker 13 (02:02:36):
Between we should have split that.
Speaker 2 (02:02:40):
Lot so could you imagine doing a bigfoot project with your.
Neighbor it's just. Bizarre but we did and and not
only did we do it and did it? Right AND
i Think, mike you didn't even expect the book to
sell and it blew you.
Speaker 46 (02:02:57):
Away, well it's an interesting story about the. Book And
i'll just tell it real. Briefly So. Doug doug would
call me at like eleven thirty at night and, say,
hey you need to come over and look look at
WHAT i just.
Speaker 13 (02:03:14):
Edited AND i would come running over and then you
know it was you, know how long was the full?
Speaker 46 (02:03:21):
Documentary it's our, documentary but forty five, minutes forty two, minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:03:26):
Yeah, SLEDGE i meane science he's talking About.
Speaker 46 (02:03:28):
Yeah and, uh there was just a lot of stuff
that got cut out of, it. Right AND i remember
my son, was you, know the age where he loved
Watching Discovery channel And Shark. Week and one day we
were in the bookstore and we found a book and
it was called The Discovery Shark Week Companion. Book so
(02:03:51):
we bought the book and then LATER i showed it To.
DOUG i, said, hey, look there's a companion book for
This Shark. Week AND i think we need or you
need to have a companion book for sasquatch legend Meet.
Science And doug, goes, great, Idea you're going to do.
It AND i, said, oh. Okay and then, obviously you,
(02:04:14):
know getting a book out there is not the easiest
thing in the. World it wasn't back. Then it probably
is a lot easier. Now this was you, know this
was two thousand and, one, right.
Speaker 2 (02:04:24):
Yeah a long time. Ago amazon didn't even.
Speaker 46 (02:04:28):
Exist well it, did it, did it barely, did and
the book in stell On. Amazon but the the interesting
thing IS i was able to get a meeting In
New York. City you, know this is your. Classic you,
know you go To New York, city you meet with
the publisher and the editor and you, know for lunch
(02:04:51):
and then, you're you, know either going to.
Speaker 13 (02:04:53):
Get the deal or you're not. Right SO i went.
Speaker 46 (02:04:57):
There it was a quick LUNCH i got to Meet
it was lunch with the, editor and THEN i got
to meet the publisher for like literally ten, minutes and
his only question to me, was, so what do you
think do you really Believe sasquatch? Exists AND i, said,
Well i'm willing to suspend, disbelief and he, goes, Great
(02:05:19):
that's exactly WHAT i was looking. For and then you,
know the next week the contract showed.
Speaker 11 (02:05:24):
UP i.
Speaker 13 (02:05:28):
Had to Get jeff engaged at.
Speaker 2 (02:05:32):
That was this never A mont?
Speaker 13 (02:05:34):
Publishing, No nevermont actually could not sell. It it was
Never mont was a guy that you had talked to.
Speaker 2 (02:05:41):
Before oh, yeah, yeah so he referred, you didn't he
somebody he gave.
Speaker 13 (02:05:46):
Me, yeah he gave me a list of a bunch
of people who might be. Interested. Gotcha, really the story
is that it was it Was Tom dordery at the.
Speaker 46 (02:05:55):
Time it was the Imprint Tom dordery which is now McMillan,
Imprint and then there was Somehow tor was involved at the,
time and tour was a fantasy kind of, imprint and
this was their first non fiction, book and what they
were looking for was what they call an evergreen, book
(02:06:17):
a book that would sell, forever, right and it's still
selling even though it's a twenty year old. Book we
tried to get a second book, Out but let me
go back to my conversations With. Meldrim, Obviously meldrum was
in the documentary and he was an, academic AND i
felt like we needed that academic kind of background involved
(02:06:43):
in publishing a, book especially you, know a book about
legend and.
Speaker 13 (02:06:48):
Science SO.
Speaker 46 (02:06:52):
I talked To jeff numerous times AND i, said you, Know,
jeff if you you, know And i'm selling, Him i'm
trying to sell, him. RIGHT i, Said, jeff you, know
if you write this, Book i'll make you the rock,
star a rock star in The bigfoot, world you, know
which was pretty easy to say at the time because
there was really nothing going on in terms of new
(02:07:13):
books coming, out and this subject and the documentary That
doug was putting together, was you, know at a key, time.
Right it WAS csi Meets bigfoot, basically and so we
were trying to kind of have the science y aspect to,
it AND i wanted an academic and OBVIOUSLY i didn't
have a lot to choose, from, Right SO i Got jeff,
(02:07:38):
involved AND i don't know if it was the PROMISE
i made to him or if it was the.
Speaker 2 (02:07:43):
Advance, yeah but you got to REMEMBER i was also
in the. Background, yes just hammer And jeff to write this.
Speaker 13 (02:07:52):
Book, yes AND i DON'T i don't know the full story.
Speaker 7 (02:07:54):
There, no.
Speaker 13 (02:07:56):
We should we should probably Read.
Speaker 2 (02:07:58):
We, definitely we definitely worked him. Together, yes, sure, yes so.
Finally but by the, WAY i was going to, MENTION i,
mean think of the undertaking that book is how many, Pages, MICHAEL.
Speaker 13 (02:08:10):
I don't, know it's over two. Hundred, yeah it's.
Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
Thick and it's, complicated and it wasn't an EASY. Rte
it was front of me right, Now, okay.
Speaker 13 (02:08:19):
Only one hundred ninety. Seven, shoot, well.
Speaker 4 (02:08:29):
So it's.
Speaker 46 (02:08:29):
Interesting SO i worked with him for a long. TIME
i was actually the first editor of the, thing BECAUSE
i would edit it and then we would hand it
off to the editor that the publisher gave, us and
So jeff AND i would have a lot of discussions
over what was going to get in the, book what
wasn't going to get in the, book you, know how
(02:08:51):
how things were going to be addressed in the book
and all that kind of.
Speaker 13 (02:08:54):
Stuff SO i had a lot of time to.
Speaker 46 (02:08:56):
Really Probe jeff's true feelings about you, know the subject
matter and all that kind of, stuff and we got
if you if you, remember he starts out the book
by talking about the personal experience that that got him.
Involved doug talks about his personal experience about why he's
interested in the, subject AND i, think what's really what's
(02:09:22):
really fascinating about the whole thing Is jeff did have
a personal experience and it was The Patterson gimlin film that,
originally as you, know he's he was, sixty so he's
seven years older than. Me AND i, REMEMBER i don't
ever remember going to, see like in a high school
gymnasium or, auditorium The Patterson gimlin, footage but he, did
(02:09:45):
and he told me that that kind of set him
down this path and got him interested in. Everything probably
even in his you, know PhD thesis and all that
kind of, stuff he was very interested in kind of you,
(02:10:06):
know he wanted to tell the. Truth AND i think
he was very good at that and very. Courageous in,
fact one of the REASONS i was concerned about having
him in the write the book was because at the
time that we started talking about, this he was just
an associate. Professor he wasn't a full professor At Idaho. State,
(02:10:27):
now listening to you guys talk about some of the
issues that he came up against in terms of academic
jealousy or just people who thought he was just you,
know talking about junk science and all that. STUFF i
don't know BECAUSE i never really had a discussion with
him about all those, things BUT i do know that
(02:10:49):
at the, TIME i, Said, hey do you realize that
this could affect you in whether or not you get tenure?
Eventually and he said, Yes AND i understand that to
take the. Risk but before that, time you, know he
was the GUY i. Wanted and THEN i kind of
gave him a way out and he didn't take. It so,
(02:11:09):
then you, know we get the book out and all
that kind of, stuff and there's actually a lot of
funny stories THAT i don't, Know, doug if you even
know all of, these but know SO i was trying
to get publicity for, him AND i GOT i almost
got him onto The Ellen Degenerate, show AND i almost
got him onto The David Letterman. Show but this is
(02:11:32):
this is how crazy stuff, goes and you, know it's
all down to like the last, minute and obviously he
would have to travel and you, know so you have
to plan this stuff, out and then he would get
bumped by. SOMEBODY i can't remember exactly what, happened BUT
i do remember that the Letterman booker sends me this
email or fat maybe it was a fax at the,
(02:11:54):
time but he sends me a thing that, says, hey,
look we're very interested in Doctor meldre.
Speaker 13 (02:12:02):
And i'm From.
Speaker 46 (02:12:02):
Wisconsin so this guy In New York city is actually From,
wisconsin and he's telling me that he's, got you, know
ideas About bigfoot and all that kind of.
Speaker 13 (02:12:11):
Stuff so it was just kind of.
Speaker 46 (02:12:12):
Interesting AND i don't remember how The ellen show fell,
through but it ultimately fell through as. Well and THEN
i get a call one day from a company that
is interested in doing a movie about the, book AND,
i you, know FIRST i tell, him, hey And, doug
you probably know about, this BECAUSE i kind of, SAID
(02:12:33):
i don't know IF i have the rights to have
you guys do a, movie BECAUSE i just have the
rights to the. Book and the book was written By.
Meldrum and so the name of this company you can.
Google it is Called Legendary, pictures And Legendary pictures has
done a lot of big movies since the early two
(02:12:54):
thousands when they were first starting. Out and there's a
guy by the name Of Thomas tull who IS i
think his claim to fame is like he made a
bunch of money On Wall street and basically took private
equity money and hedge fund money TO la and started making. Films,
okay so he actually Invites jeff down TO la and
(02:13:15):
they spend the day, together and then he asked he
Asked jeff to go out to dinner with his family
because he has kids who are interested In. Sasquatch and
ultimately it all kind of fell apart because when we
tried to pin him down on what the movie would be,
about you, know Because jeff AND i talked, about you,
(02:13:36):
know doing the movie like.
Speaker 13 (02:13:39):
You, know kind of Like raiders of The Lost arc
or or.
Speaker 46 (02:13:44):
The you know the movies where you have a college
professor he's giving a lecture and then someone rushes in
after class and, says, hey Doctor, meldurn we have. This
we have the we found a sasquatch or sasquatch activity
here and it's off the charts and you got to
come and you, know so we actually kind of tried
to kind of create that kind of scenario for a,
(02:14:04):
movie and we found out That Legendary pictures And Thomas
tall they wanted to make a horror. Movie So, jeff you,
know being the guy with such, integrity basically, says, NO
i can't be involved in anything like, that and so
that was that was game. Over but those are you,
know just some of the interesting things that we kind
(02:14:25):
of had to run. Down, unfortunately you, know we would
have probably even wrote more books and gotten more people
involved if had we gone On Ellen degenerous And David,
letterman but it didn't work.
Speaker 11 (02:14:37):
Out but it was.
Speaker 46 (02:14:41):
Interesting, Yeah and if they wanted to do a movie
that was more along the lines of What jeff AND
i were kind of, thinking THEN i Think jeff would
have done, it but you, know been a consultant on
the movie and that kind of. Stuff but, uh those
are those are all things that could have happened that didn't.
Happen maybe in a different universe they did.
Speaker 2 (02:15:01):
Happen, yeah to this, day nobody has done a proper
Big foot. Movie it has not been done, yet which is. Sad,
yeah because it's on my bucket. List maybe you'll end
up doing.
Speaker 13 (02:15:14):
It there you, go there you, go because what it
needs and lots of things getting added to your to do.
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
List, yeah, yeah that's. Good that's, Good. MICHAEL i got
to get to some other. People but What i'd like
to do is to get you back into a whole
legend meet. Science we can get You Matt moneymaker and
some of the other people involved in legitimate, science and
we can just tell stories of legitimates all this insider
(02:15:44):
because there's a lot of insider.
Speaker 13 (02:15:46):
Stuff, yeah there's there's a lot of. Stories it really.
Is let me just add. On CAN i just add one?
Speaker 4 (02:15:52):
Thing?
Speaker 2 (02:15:53):
Yeah by the, way by the, WAY i want to Mention.
Michael you got to hear, This, Dan, JEFF i wouldn't
even mention it it wasn't For Legendimate. Science yep, book
don't you, Agree, Jeff, JEFF i don't THINK i would
have met.
Speaker 11 (02:16:12):
You, Oh i'm. SORRY i thought you were talking about
the Other. Jeff, well and that's and that's actually one hundred,
Percent and that's actually Why brendan came. On brendan is
one of my oldest friends, here and he got. Me
he got me into the, movie he got me into the,
book and that's HOW i became a Huge meldrom. Fan
that's HOW i became so interested in the. Subject and
so Without, brendan without without Doctor, MELDRUM i never would
(02:16:34):
have met. You and Meeting doug has just been such a.
Blessing Just doug's become a very close. Friend we've had
a ton of fun. TOGETHER i love being on the.
Show it's it's been a life changing. Experience SO i
have to thank Doctor meldon for that And.
Speaker 2 (02:16:48):
Brendan so, yeah And, brendan by the, Way michael is
probably one of the biggest fans ever of the.
Speaker 11 (02:16:56):
Book.
Speaker 13 (02:16:57):
Really, Yeah so.
Speaker 2 (02:16:58):
We're bringing you on, Now.
Speaker 11 (02:17:00):
Brandon, well, hello can you hear?
Speaker 29 (02:17:03):
Me?
Speaker 2 (02:17:03):
Yeah there we, Go there we. Go so tell us
your feelings About legeni and.
Speaker 47 (02:17:07):
Science oh, well, YEAH i mean it was just the
best documentary that came out. Ever AND i always tried
to see every documentary THAT i could, find and usually
recorded ON, vhs And i've moved a lot of those
TO dvd these, days SO i can keep watching them
WHENEVER i. Want and, YEAH i remember going To jeff's
(02:17:29):
house and bringing down the d V d and saying
you got.
Speaker 11 (02:17:31):
It you got to see, this BUT i believe you.
Speaker 47 (02:17:34):
Show you showed it to your Brother joe, too who
is still very, skeptical but uh, uh you, know and
and he's a big game hunter that travels the world
so almost invariably WHEN i See, JOE i, say, uh you,
know did you ask your guides about any bigfoot stories
in their? Area AND i think he's a little hesitant
to do. That some of his guides have, stories but,
(02:17:56):
yeah he doesn't like talking about it so. Much he's
not he's not as interested in.
Speaker 2 (02:17:59):
It but the line, is there's a butterfly effect with
that film and the. Book obviously it's been a butterfly
effect in my life and would have it allowed me
to do to do mysterious encounters and allowed me to
do monster quests because you have to Build you just
don't jump right into a history channel, show, Right you
(02:18:22):
have to build credibility through the years and the book
and the MOVIE i, made the legitimate science and the
fact it was all done so well just you, know
obviously partly due to, me but BECAUSE i was smart
enough to hire really good people to work on, it
(02:18:42):
really good, narrator really good and and and get really
good scientists Like jeff and Doctor benson and just all
the people that were Involved esteban and that's what made.
It but it's changed so many. LIVES i know it
Changed Matt moneymaker's life. Tremendously he went on to have
a what an eleven year stint as a star on
(02:19:05):
THE tv show because of legend me and science and
because of the build you know WHAT i, mean you
know that. Goes if you don't build that first rung
on the, ladder you don't get to. Climate it's nothing to.
Climb and so to Hear. Brendan so let's you, know
lay it On, mike how that book affected your thoughts
(02:19:26):
and your. Feelings, well you.
Speaker 47 (02:19:28):
Know it brought in our big muscle Of bigfoot as our,
scientist Our Jeff. Meldrum where other people you, know had
enthusiasm and armchair, researchers now we had an academic behind,
us a real serious man with a real, education and
who wasn't just looking at it as boys as.
Speaker 11 (02:19:50):
Fun is that this is real.
Speaker 47 (02:19:51):
Science this is in my field of expertise of locomotion
and foot. Morphology AND i, mean just look at all
the words that we can say, now because we learned
it from Document meldrumy mid, break AND i remember seeing
that those pictures Of patty's footprints AND i, thought, well,
(02:20:12):
geez there's a branch buried underground. There you can tell
it's a real foot because it's flexing over. It it
wasn't Until meldrum came up with the mid tarsal break
that we knew that that was because their foot was built,
differently and it made, sense and it's, like oh my.
GOSH i recognized something was unique, there BUT i didn't
know anything about. That i'm an ultrasound technologist by, trade
(02:20:35):
and one of the radiologists taught, me you see what you,
know and you don't see what you don't.
Speaker 11 (02:20:39):
Know so if you don't know what.
Speaker 47 (02:20:42):
You're looking, at you don't necessarily know what you're. Missing
and when you do know what you're looking, at you
know a whole lot more about.
Speaker 11 (02:20:50):
That and you, Know i'm JUST i feel really.
Speaker 47 (02:20:54):
FORTUNATE i got to meet Doctor meldrum last year at
The Minnesota Bigfoot conference Last. October he missed it the
year before because he was. Ill BUT i got my
book autographed That i've had twenty years. NOW i got
it out and brought it up. There it's At jeff's
house right now BECAUSE i Want Doug hicheck to sign it.
(02:21:14):
Too if there's two people that need to sign that,
book it was Doctor meldrum And Doug hicheck for their.
Contributions and the main Point i'd like to make tonight,
is you, KNOW i listened to almost every speech or
podcast that Doctor meldram makes on, YouTube And i'd really
like to see a scholarship fund set up in his,
(02:21:35):
memorial maybe a research, grant scholarship fund where we can
identify budding scientists or people that need money to do serious.
Research AND i don't know how to go about, that
But i'd be willing to work on it with, others
try to raise money and have a perpetual. FUND i
(02:21:55):
do that identifies work that needs to be.
Speaker 2 (02:22:00):
Done, BRANDON i can help with, THAT i know. Exactly
And michael, Too. Michael michael is an expert and that stuff.
Too he was a what's the. NAME i can't think
we just escape me. Regent, yeah he's a college. Regent BUT.
Speaker 28 (02:22:22):
I do.
Speaker 2 (02:22:22):
KNOW i think people who would be willing to maybe
fund an educational grant or two or whatever or some
kind of yearly.
Speaker 11 (02:22:31):
Fund, yeah like a yearly.
Speaker 47 (02:22:32):
Fund so it's growing up because he was such a
proponent of finding new scientists and helping, them because you
can't do research if you don't have. MONEY i, mean
you got to put food on the, table, Right and
if you want to do A bigfoot research, project let's
help people out, equipment, education, whatever.
Speaker 18 (02:22:54):
You, Know brandon And. Doug maybe that would even be
better done in the form of an academic share rather
than purely a research, fund so you could support a,
investigator a young, investigator you, know in his research on
an ongoing. Basis, anyway that's certainly something That i'd be
interested in talking to anybody. About i've been involved in
(02:23:15):
that area for a long.
Speaker 13 (02:23:16):
Time you'll chuck in real money if if you're talking
about a, chair so.
Speaker 47 (02:23:21):
Right, yeah, yeah let's raise a lot of money.
Speaker 11 (02:23:25):
Rescue i'll connect you And, BRANDON i CAN i have
both your. Contagirmation i'll connect the two of.
Speaker 47 (02:23:29):
You, Okay, yeah maybe we can do a private video
roundtable with people From Zoo book and whoever would be
interested in.
Speaker 2 (02:23:38):
Helping, YEAH i, mean this is the butterfly, effect AND
i love. That you know WHAT i love most about
legitimate science more than. Anything when in my old, AGE
i meet a new scientist AND i asked, them how
did you get you, know why are you into? Science
why are you willing to do this forensic work for
(02:24:00):
legitimaed science? Too and they go BECAUSE i watch legitimeat
science one WHEN i was a, kid AND i ended
up that that motivated me to get my. PhD and
blah blah. Blah And i've heard this many times And i'm, like,
wow that is so.
Speaker 11 (02:24:16):
Cool, well that movie and the, book it's A it
was a true paradigm shift BECAUSE i was always interested
in any of the art bell, stuff any kind of fringy,
stuff and seeing seeing, that seeing that, documentary reading that
book was the first time that clicked through my. Head
this could really be an actual. Creature this isn't some
(02:24:37):
goofy you know ghost. Story. THIS i, mean it's Particularly
meldrum's footprint. Analysis it was a paradigm shift that this
is a real creature that can actually be studied and
there's there's data to be found in those. Footprints it's
it's so. Overwhelming it was a complete paradigm. SHIFT i
don't know a better way to put it than that is.
(02:24:58):
Amazing it just it changed the WAY i think about
all that. Stuff And i've been interested ever, since.
Speaker 2 (02:25:05):
Which is amazing Because jeff has never had any kind
of big food activity in his, life but he's really
into the.
Speaker 11 (02:25:11):
Topic, Yeah i'm, Yeah i'm fascinated by it And I'M, i,
uh just the evidence of a biological phenomenon is just
overwhelming to. Me and you, Know I've i'm not trained in,
science BUT i was a science nerd as a. Kid
i've read, many, many many, books and SO i was
(02:25:32):
just you, know SO i, UNDERSTAND i understand the science
behind what they're talking, about and that it just clicked
in my, head like, wow, this Like brendan, said you
know all this terminology that we all know now before that,
movie who the heck k dow what a mid tartar break?
Was now we all know what that. Is you, know
who knew what a dermal ridge? Was now we all
(02:25:53):
know what dermal ridge. Was and that's such a huge
part of just bringing this mystery to life and bring
credibility and scientific. GRIGOR i, mean it, changed it changed
the whole, uh the whole. Topic uh, again paradigm. Shift
it just changed. Everything It Doug, Thanks Thanks doug for doing,
(02:26:13):
That Thanks michael for doing. That thanks Doctor melbourne for doing.
That it's.
Speaker 13 (02:26:17):
Incredible, yeah CAN i CAN i just say.
Speaker 15 (02:26:19):
That.
Speaker 46 (02:26:19):
Uh one of the biggest compliments that we got on
the book was we were told OR i was told
that by a dad that his son is now interested
in science because of legend meat.
Speaker 2 (02:26:34):
Science who is?
Speaker 46 (02:26:36):
This, uh it's JUST i don't remember who it. Was
it's it was, WELL i know lots of friends of
mine bought the books for their, kids BUT i don't
think this person who actually told me this.
Speaker 13 (02:26:48):
Was someone THAT i considered a friend at the.
Speaker 46 (02:26:51):
Time so, uh it's just interesting the fact, that you,
know it's just this one subject matter might have gotten
this kid into. Science. Yeah, yeah maybe he Studies bigfoot
someday in the, future but you, know he's into.
Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
Science that's The. Yeah that's kind of the big thing
is that kids were inspired to find a monster quest
inspired a lot of kids to get into science, too
which is so, cool you, Know and it's this goes
on behind like my. BACK i don't know about. It
All i've heard, of you, know this case in that,
(02:27:27):
CASE i have people write me all the. Time But
i'm thinking about the thousands of ones you don't ever hear,
about which is. Cool, okay saving the best for, Last
carl And john you got and we Got greg. Too
what let's just let's Get. Greg you're always so kind
(02:27:51):
and you're so. ENTHUSIASTIC i know you probably only had
one energy drink, tonight. RIGHT i told him he couldn't have,
two he can only have. One go, Ahead, greg thoughts
About jeff, wep your mic is.
Speaker 11 (02:28:06):
Muted there we. GO i got.
Speaker 2 (02:28:08):
It that's all, Right jeff on. Muted he. Did you
should be good, Now?
Speaker 1 (02:28:12):
Greg AM i?
Speaker 28 (02:28:15):
Good?
Speaker 11 (02:28:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 30 (02:28:17):
Okay you know it's kind of in a weird. Way
it was Last wednesday. Night i'm on with you And
jeff and my Buddy, mark and we're talking about this
amazing thing that had, happened and we didn't know at
that point we'd already Lost. Jeff jeff passed On, tuesday
(02:28:37):
became public On. Thursday unlike so many, here Including, Rusty,
rusty if you ever need a, drummer look me. Up
like so many, HERE i never got to meet. HIM
i actually had a beating with him set up at The,
Glyad Oregon Bigfoot. Festivals Vollet Squatch america was there With.
(02:29:02):
Jeff he'd set it. Up THEN i had car trouble
AND i was never able to get, there AND i,
thought you, know there'll be another. TIME i probably run
into him at cliff or something.
Speaker 1 (02:29:14):
Else and the.
Speaker 30 (02:29:17):
Sadness now THAT i feel over the fact THAT i
had that opportunity to meet him and circumstances took it.
Away what will never be taken, away even without having met,
him was how profound he was for, me for all
(02:29:38):
of us because he was he was our true north
in so many. Ways it all pointed back to. Him
when we needed that scientific ability to deal with skeptics
or convince people who really weren't, sure you could always
(02:30:02):
lean On jeff and what he had. Produced he was never.
Wavering he was always, patient even with the most agnostic of,
unbelievers WHICH i think is an important lesson for all of.
US i think about, him AND i think about The Four,
(02:30:24):
horsemen and the Four horsemen were great for inspiring the
search and igniting the. Passion But i'm here to tell
YOU i Think jeff was even more significant than The
Four horsemen because of his ability to articulate the science.
Speaker 2 (02:30:45):
And he HAD i agree so so so much with, You,
greg is not even. FUNNY i really agree with.
Speaker 40 (02:30:52):
You.
Speaker 30 (02:30:53):
Absolutely, yeah he had that unimpeachable. Gravitas you skeptics just
couldn't get around.
Speaker 21 (02:31:02):
It and.
Speaker 30 (02:31:04):
He could prove it just through the science of what he,
had even though he himself had never had a direct,
experience and that still blows my. Mind but he had
not had a direct, experience he could still walk you
through the science and prove that's a living creature that does.
Speaker 11 (02:31:24):
This this is.
Speaker 30 (02:31:26):
How and he also was tremendous about spotting the. FAKES
i Think less probably illustrated that best in His Survivor
Man bigfoot series when he went out to attempt to
fake And jeff caught onto. It AND i Think john
(02:31:48):
was also involved in, that but it was mainly it
Was jeff that, goes wait a, minute this is a.
Speaker 13 (02:31:55):
Hoax this is a.
Speaker 30 (02:31:56):
Fake but watch How jeff handled that with, grace with,
professionalism with, calm and he just walked it. Through and
THAT i thought was probably one of the greatest testaments
To JEFF i ever, saw and how methodical he was
(02:32:16):
and how he broke it down and how he walked through.
Everything the saddest part is realizing Whereas grover retired and aged,
Out jeff was there ready to step up and actually
then reach levels. That, HONESTLY i just don't Think grover ever.
Did we don't have that heavy hitter right now ready
(02:32:40):
to step up and grab the. Baton the baton's laying
on the. Ground who's gonna step? UP i heard somebody
say it could be any one of. US i appreciate that,
sentiment BUT i know that's not, me Because i'm certainly Not.
Jeff and the other problem we, Have jeff was such
(02:33:01):
a one of. One no matter, what no matter who
may develop and come, along there is never gonna be
Another Jeff. Meldrum and we're all so much poorer for.
THAT i, Am, YEAH i Just i'm still just in
almost a surreal disbelief that he's actually, gone Because jeff
(02:33:22):
just felt larger than life to. Me and thank, goodness
we have so much documented because in a, Way jeff
now will truly be, immortal and for THAT i am eternally.
Speaker 1 (02:33:34):
Grateful, yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:33:38):
Very well.
Speaker 2 (02:33:38):
SAID i was gonna, mention we have a whole bunch
of pre recorded eulogies we're gonna play towards excuse, me
towards the end of the, show so you're gonna want
to stick around for, those and really a lot of
them are really. Amazing, well how many do we, Have
jeff to?
Speaker 30 (02:33:55):
Play we have like, Lots we have, lots and unfortunately
you need to step out right. NOW i really appreciate
being thank thank. You yeah you can all these other
WHAT i consider legends in the field out. There thank
you for a while part of.
Speaker 1 (02:34:11):
This dug And.
Speaker 2 (02:34:12):
Jeff, yeah well we thank.
Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
You Thanks.
Speaker 2 (02:34:15):
Greg we'll see.
Speaker 18 (02:34:15):

Speaker 2 (02:35:11):
Town but but, NO i tell, us tell us your
thoughts on Losing jeff and you know.
Speaker 48 (02:35:17):
When, YEAH i Mean jeff AND i you, Know i'm
not Gonna we weren't real close or anything like. THAT
i had the opportunity to talk to him on the
phone for about an hour one. NIGHT i was able
to get you, know be able to pick his brain
a little bit on some of the subjects that we
were discussing and stuff like. That he was a very patient.
(02:35:40):
GUY i have to say THAT i, enjoyed you, know
every moment THAT i was able to talk to. HIM
i missed about the conference that he you, know he
wasn't able to make that. Year you, KNOW i was
at that conference and AND i was hoping to meet
him a. Person But i'm mostly Known I'm doug through
you and through you, know the the numerous interviews he's
(02:36:03):
had and stuff that he's had ON. Tv i'll never
forget The Snell grove episode there with you, KNOW i
think it Was peter schmitts Uh Dale Peterson, Pearson Dale
pearson and uh that to me was a really uh
at defining. Moment uh with Doctor. MELDRUM i love that
(02:36:25):
show that they were so precise and looking at the you,
know they had the board with the screws in it and,
uh and they were you, know went in depth on
that and so.
Speaker 2 (02:36:35):
Forth that Was Curtin nelson And jeff Oh Kurt.
Speaker 48 (02:36:41):
Nelson, yes thank.
Speaker 2 (02:36:42):
You from The university Of. Minnesota, yep thank, You.
Speaker 48 (02:36:44):
Yep, yep and, UH i don't know If Greg bambinick
was involved with that.
Speaker 2 (02:36:49):
One he was on The sasquatch attack number, two.
Speaker 1 (02:36:54):
Right.
Speaker 2 (02:36:56):
Was, Up, YEAH i, WAS i.
Speaker 48 (02:36:58):
WAS i was able to him a few.
Speaker 7 (02:37:00):
Times you.
Speaker 48 (02:37:01):
Know we used to call him Doctor, juce you, know
because there's aye lower attractings and stuff for.
Speaker 2 (02:37:09):
Fish but, yeah that's HOW i met him years and years,
yeah like she's thirty five years. AGO i met him
in the eighties because he was developing.
Speaker 48 (02:37:19):
Sense, yeah pheromones and different things like, that and, yeah
that went a lot with the bigfoot research and stuff like,
that you. Know and for, Me i'm just a grunt
in the, field you, know and stuff like. THAT i
spent a lot of time out in the woods as you,
know you, KNOW i do you know a lot of
research and stuff like. That BUT i have a lot to,
(02:37:40):
learn you, know a lot of, academia a lot of,
more you, know, casting a lot more. Stuff mid terstal
break was one of the things that came up just.
EARLIER i said that was one of the things that
the footprints that we've, found that's how we identify a
lot of these, prints you, know if it's got that
mid terrestal.
Speaker 1 (02:37:58):
Break you.
Speaker 48 (02:37:59):
Know So i've learned a lot just from just from
what you, know legend meet. Science that was groundbreaking for
as a lot of people previously had spoken about a
lot of us in the field thoroughly enjoy you, know
the academia port That jeff. BROUGHT i ordered one of the.
(02:38:25):
CASTS i want to trying to think of the name
of the cast THAT i, received but it was it
was the officer out In washington.
Speaker 2 (02:38:35):
That, Yeah Denis, Hereford, yes thank.
Speaker 48 (02:38:40):
You so and the field guy That jeff put put.
TOGETHER i do have an autographed one From jeff so so,
YEAH i mean it just it's it was a shocked
as HERE i know you were really close to him,
obviously and that it was very effective as far as you,
know a lot of the work that you guys have
been doing together and stuff like that, so and you
(02:39:03):
know they talk about people stepping up and having the. Expertise,
DOUG i think, you're you, know one of the top
in the. INDUSTRY i think you've had so much other
people that have contributed to what you work with THAT
i think that that's a torch that you can carry,
ON i think within this within this.
Speaker 2 (02:39:24):
Field So i'll try AND I i do thank you for, That,
John BUT.
Speaker 28 (02:39:31):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:39:31):
Know jeff was just like like a brother that seemed
bigger than, life almost like a. God you could Call
jeff and ask him anything at any time a day and,
night and he was just enthusiastic to hear from, you
to answer any, question would get in these great conversations
(02:39:53):
and they would go on for hours sometimes and like you,
said you talked to him for an hour one. Night,
yeah that's That's, jeff you know he. Was he was
like just a big brother to a lot of.
Speaker 48 (02:40:07):
People, Right and he didn't know me from, anybody you.
KNOW i JUST i called him up AND i was
able to talk to, him AND i, thought this is just.
Great you, know he was very. Personable he took the
time to answer. Questions you, know he wasn't rushed or
anything like. That and NOW i hear so much about
his personality that you, know nothing really shook him. Much
(02:40:28):
he would think of plain and stuff like. THAT i
think that was just a great treat That jeff, had.
Speaker 2 (02:40:32):
So, yeah and that's why, he you, know suffered just
with his. Family he didn't really reach out to anybody
on his the last days of his. Life he didn't
want sympathy from. Anybody, right very private with, that pretty. Clear,
yeah really was, WELL i appreciate. It, yeah thank, You,
(02:40:55):
john go to, bed. Goodbye, Yeah i'll see you so all,
right and, traveling thank, You carl for. Sure carl's Coming,
Ton carl's coming.
Speaker 1 (02:41:06):
To, minneapolis AND i am coming To.
Speaker 2 (02:41:09):
Minneapolis and actually you're going to be speaking The Minnesota
Bigfoot conference up In october, second, third, no third and.
Speaker 1 (02:41:20):
Fourth third and fourth, yep.
Speaker 49 (02:41:23):
Yea and even on the on the, third the evening
of the, third we're GONNA i don't know what, time
but we'll get we'll meet in the, bar we'll do
An irish. WAKE i Know jeff didn't, drink but you,
know we'll get we'll set.
Speaker 2 (02:41:37):
Up he didn't even drink tear coffee, nothing SO i know,
that you, know drink water.
Speaker 7 (02:41:45):
Milk BUT i.
Speaker 2 (02:41:46):
DO i will lift a glass or shot Of patron
any day To.
Speaker 1 (02:41:52):
Jeff, yep, yep same, Here but.
Speaker 2 (02:41:55):
We're not going to have a shot Of Patron.
Speaker 49 (02:41:57):
Brandon, sure, OKAY i, yeah well there maybe we can
live stream. That, yeah but, no you, KNOW i NEVER
i never did get to meet Doctor. Meldrum and you,
know and that's, uh that's sad because you, know there's
(02:42:20):
there's a couple of words you know today THAT i you,
KNOW i could pull out from everyone's, commentary which was you,
know inspiration and, courage, right and you, know in my, industry,
uh you, know, working you, know in software, consulting you
know that absolutely could have a negative, effect you. Know
but you, know at one TIME i, decided you, know
(02:42:43):
and really pretty much after looking At sasquatch, legend meet,
science because it did lend additional credibility THAT i could
point to in order to take some of that heat.
Off so it really took it really gave me the
courage in order to step out of the, shadows if you.
Would and of course my first speaking, engagement you, know soul,
(02:43:05):
courage he did his.
Speaker 2 (02:43:07):
Courage we knew we could always say to, Somebody, well
there's scientists involved in. Esley this guy you, know and he's.
Brilliant he's a scientist and he's studying the. Topic and
so it's not like some stupid you, know like. Legend
there's more to it than.
Speaker 49 (02:43:26):
That you, Know and and everyone mentioned you know, that
you know, that everyone you know on the, podcast you
know is you know it could be the Next BUT
i think we all bring our own unique. Skills and you,
KNOW i MEAN i you, know doing data analysis and.
Debug you, Know, carl go debug eighteen million lines of, code,
(02:43:48):
right you have to find that, one one or two
bugs in that code in order to fix some.
Speaker 1 (02:43:54):
Issue.
Speaker 49 (02:43:54):
Right it's the same thing WHEN i go out in
the woods right WHERE i can look at scenery and
kick out exactly you know what's out of place or
what is? Different what you know and, uh you know
it it really Uh AND i think we bring all
bring those unique, skills AND i.
Speaker 1 (02:44:13):
Think that, TOGETHER i think we are Doctor.
Speaker 2 (02:44:17):
Meldrim SO i like this comments Life fox goes Doctor.
Meldrim he was, Armed he armed us with. Education that's so,
true so. TRUE i See michael has entered this, studio
the Invisible.
Speaker 13 (02:44:33):
Michael, yeah he kind of keeps coming and going Because
i'm trying to fix my.
Speaker 1 (02:44:38):
Camera BUT I i think he's. Cloaking that's WHAT i.
Speaker 2 (02:44:42):
Think hear you, Cloaking Michael. Radio you know you fix your,
camera don't. You it's with a. Hammer but, Yeah michael
Is michael's shoe is. Amazing and we've been.
Speaker 13 (02:45:01):
Friends how, Long, michael since you moved moved in?
Speaker 2 (02:45:04):

Speaker 2 (02:45:11):

Speaker 11 (02:45:15):
It's getting late. Here should we try to get in
some of these clips of people? Talking, yeah let's do.

with my friends celebrating the life of Doctor, melgrim who recently.
Passed i'm on a very very long drive And i'm
unable to uh get to my, computer so please forgive.
Me but what can we say about Doctor. MELDRIM i, mean,
uh at first he was an idol for his his.
(02:47:16):
Work later he became a mentor and then finally became a.
Friend so my loss is personal and it hurts very very.
Deeply but as far as the loss to the, community
it's it's, terrible it's it's. Unspeakable he is irreplaceable in
my in my, mind it's it's just, tragic. Unfortunately but
(02:47:38):
instead of mourning our, loss and there's a time and
a place for, that of, course But i'd like to
challenge all of us to perhaps pick up the baton
and carry it further for Doctor, melgrim doing it for
the animals and Doctor. Meldrim he would want us to
continue looking at the subject and delving deeper into it
in a scientific, way in a in a sober, way
(02:47:59):
and in a responsible and mature, way just like he.
Did so please everyone, listening you, know let's flick our
wounds and mourn our Friend. God at the same, time
let's let's continue full doing it For. Jeff let's do
it For. Jeff i'm so deeply grateful THAT i lived
at such a time as with Doctor, melchium that our timelines.

Colt last, YEAR i got a very special opportunity to
Call jeff and wish him happy. BIRTHDAY i spent an
hour with both Doctor meldrum And Doug hicheck chatting about
our favorite, Subjects. BIGFOOT i think that's a bucket list
item for most of. Us i've always been inspired by
Doctor meldrum and his bravery facing academic isolation for pursuing
(02:50:31):
something that's outside the norms of standard scientific. RESEARCH i
think it's really important for people to look at the
evidence and try to find scientific, conclusions even if it
doesn't conform to popular.
Speaker 26 (02:50:43):
OPINION i Think jeff felt the.
Speaker 51 (02:50:45):
Same i'm very proud of the work he has done
and the contributions he's, made And i'm proud that his
friends and colleagues continue the scientific pursuit of.
Speaker 1 (02:50:54):
Truth he will forever.
Speaker 51 (02:50:56):
Be remembered by our community and forever be connected to
the subject of big foot. Research And i'm, proud very
proud to call him a.
Speaker 13 (02:51:03):
Friend well said, yes and that came.
Speaker 2 (02:51:08):

Together jeff brought real science and passion to The bigfoot
community in a way you just do not. See i'm
grateful for what he taught all of us about how
(02:52:00):
to bring science and mystery. Together my thoughts are with
his family and everyone who followed his. Work he's going

Speaker 1 (02:52:09):

Speaker 35 (02:52:41):
That it saddens me.
Speaker 52 (02:52:45):
The passing of Doctor Jeff, meldrum who was The bigfoot
communities litmus. Test you would have to get any artifactual
evidence or evidence of any, sort you, know past the
(02:53:05):
scrutiny of Doctor melodrum for verification and.
Speaker 1 (02:53:09):
Whatnot and.
Speaker 52 (02:53:13):
Other than, that he had a funny personality about. Him
he was very personable and a kind person and a
friend to us. All AND i did get to spend
time with, him which was you, know, NOW i know
is a, blessing AND i guess we take it for.

looking and.
Speaker 20 (02:55:07):
He looked at.
Speaker 28 (02:55:08):
It my son with special needs had broken it on
the way, there AND i was kind of, ashamed BUT
i wanted him to see, it and he had such
patience with.
Speaker 2 (02:55:18):

had the. Patients and THEN i watched as other people
spoke with. Him he Had, yeah he never rushed. Them
he always was well informed and you, know there were
lines out the door for his his. Stuff so that
that was the first. Time Then i've met him at
(02:55:50):
many many conferences over the. YEARS i met him In
texas again and they were having a trivia where everybody.
Speaker 53 (02:56:02):
He had asked the QUESTION i. Forget forget it was
a while, back and he he was so THRILLED i
got the answer Was Ivan. Sanderson but, uh he was
very excited because he.
Speaker 2 (02:56:15):

joke on him and he was. Laughing he was a wonderful,
(02:57:36):

would give, out you, know the little gift to the,
speakers and at this TIME i. COULDN'T i just was
very exhausted AND i wanted to go to. Bed so
he took the check and he gave it to you,
know he took it and gave it out so THAT

Marie, hi my name Is Marie, dumont AND i am
the founder of the Mid Florida Bigfoot Research group and research.
Team Doctor meldrum has always been a, brilliant influential and
dedicated researcher who has brought scientific credibility to the study of.
Sasquatch in my, eyes he was larger than life and
(02:59:11):
a brilliant man THAT i highly. Respected my favorite and
funniest moment with Doctor meldrum was the last TIME i
saw him at The Great Florida Bigfoot conference in twenty
twenty three that was held In, Oakalla. FLORIDA i was
a volunteer at THE vip dinner and was helping set up, tables,
chairs and the food for the attendees and, speakers and
(02:59:33):
about thirty minutes before the dinner, STARTED i looked over
at the parking lot area AND i spotted my Friend
Ronnie LeBlanc walking towards the, area AND i quickly went
over to see. Him When ronnie saw, me he extended
out his arms wide and yelled Out, marie AND i
yelled Out, ronnie and we gave each other a nice big.
Hug at the, TIME i didn't notice who was Behind
(02:59:55):
ronnie until after the. Hug it was then THAT i
saw Doctor melgrim standing right Behind, ronnie looking and smiling at.
Me AND i GUESS i got cut off in all
the excitement BECAUSE i then yeeled Out jeff like we
were best friends and on a first name. BASIS i
then proceeded to throw my arms out wide LIKE i
(03:00:16):
did With, ronnie and we gave each other a, nice
big bear. Hug after the, HUG i quickly realized WHAT
i had, done AND i was mortified by my behavior
towards the good. DOCTOR i apologized to him immediately for
being disrespectful and for not calling him Doctor, meldrum and
he just laughed at me and said it was all
okay and that he enjoyed getting the. HUG i am
(03:00:38):
grateful we're getting to know Doctor meltrim over the, years
and THAT i will always have.
Speaker 14 (03:00:45):
Wonderful fond memories of.
Speaker 31 (03:00:47):
Him his legacy will live on forever in The bigfoot
community and in the hearts of All bigfoot, researchers including.
Speaker 35 (03:00:54):
Mine he will be greatly.
Speaker 11 (03:00:56):
Missed all, right next, one now we are back To
this is Actually. Range she's From Misquatching holler on our.
Network here we.
Speaker 33 (03:01:06):
Go my name Is Ashley, range AND i was asked
to say a few words in regards to the legendary
Doctor Jeff, meldrum AND i will try my best to
get through. This i'm already, failing but you know, what that's,
(03:01:28):
authentic so we're gonna go with. It what CAN i
possibly say about Doctor Jeff meldrum that has not been
said by many. OTHERS i think we are all in
shock in this, community and what an honor is to
(03:01:50):
be a part of, this to be.
Speaker 22 (03:01:52):
Able to speak.
Speaker 33 (03:01:56):
In regards to essentially a hero in this, community whether
it Be bigfoot Or cryptis in, general or science in.
General jeff leaves a phenomenal wake in his passing and
he will be so sincerely. MISSED i do not pretend
(03:02:20):
to know Doctor Jeff. Meldrum, jeff Doctor, meldrum however you knew,
him you. KNOW i don't claim to have known him,
personally but many people THAT i care about did know
him personally and call him. Friend and What i've come
to surmise About jeff is that him being such an
(03:02:43):
authentic person, himself what.
Speaker 35 (03:02:45):
You see is what you.
Speaker 33 (03:02:46):
Got AND i do feel LIKE i knew him from
all of his guest appearances on different shows and specials and.
INTERVIEWS i remember vividly my best Friend amanda Aka Hey,
amanda The bigfoot lady calling me and telling me an
excruciating detail about getting to meet Doctor meldrim when he
(03:03:09):
spoke At Expedition bigfoot there In Blue, Ridge, georgia and
just how it was such an experience and that for
a lot of people who got to meet Doctor meldrum
having the similar experiences.
Speaker 22 (03:03:27):
Is.
Speaker 33 (03:03:28):
UNMATCHED i don't know if he necessarily meant to go
down this, path being a scientist that he is working
very close to my neck at the woods there In,
Idaho BUT i don't know if it was reluctantly becoming
The bigfoot, guy but he definitely eased into his role
(03:03:51):
with such earnestness and. Sincerity AND i am, personally as
a cryptid, enthusiast so grateful for everything that Doctor meldrim
did for the, community giving a scientific backing to something
where to this day we still consider Hard bigfoot evidence
(03:04:16):
and research in ways that Doctor meldrum pioneered and. Perfected
AND i think though he is not, here the legacy
that he leaves is as big as the emptiness in our.
Hearts this came to a shock for many of, us
and my, deepest, deepest sincerest condolences to his, friends his,
(03:04:40):
family his loved. ONES i haven't heard in all the
years That i've been aware of Doctor, Melgrim i've not
heard a single bad word from, anybody and just a
profound sadness in this, community AS i, said by the
many people THAT i know and care about who knew
and cared about. Him so that being, SAID.
Speaker 2 (03:05:05):
I just.
Speaker 33 (03:05:08):
Extend my gratitude and my sincere thoughts and prayers to
Doctor Jeff, meldrum his, family his loved, ones and will
say THAT i myself, personally as many others around, me
standing shoulder to, shoulder will pick this torch, up continue
(03:05:32):
on and hopefully just make him as proud as we
can in our continued search for, knowledge for the truth
and doing it with amazing, humor wit and. Positivity god
bless The meldrum, family and thank you so much for
(03:05:53):
letting me speak on. This god bless you and everyone.
Else thank you all, right that.
Speaker 11 (03:06:01):
Was that was actually Reach thank, You. Ashley up, next
we've Got Dean.
Speaker 54 (03:06:08):
Bertram, hi It's Dean bertram from The Untold Radio Network's
Talking Weird. Show Doctor Jeff meldrim was a giant in
The bigfoot community other than the original Four, Horsemen Peter,
Byrne John, Green Grover, krantz And rene De, hendon all
of whom Doctor meldrim ranks. BESIDE i can think of
no one who has had a bigger impact on sasquatch.
(03:06:30):
Research he was a gentleman who will be sorely, missed
and it's hard to imagine that anyone will ever take his.
Speaker 11 (03:06:37):
Place all, right thank. You that Was Dean bertram mixed.
Up we Have John. Pickering here we.
Speaker 21 (03:06:47):
Go everyone with even the most remote interest in sasquatch
knows Doctor. Meldrim for many lucky ones were able to meet.
Him i'm one of the super fortunate. Ones not only
WAS i able to meet, him but was honored to
do volunteer work for, him collaborate with, him and do
(03:07:12):
field work with. Him but nothing will compare to the
honor of calling him. FRIEND i always called him Doctor.
Meldrim he often said THAT i could call Him. Jeff
that just never seemed. Right some people are just bigger than.
Life that was my, Friend. Jeff Doctor meldrim met thousands
(03:07:36):
of people and gave his time to visit with. All
that was my, Friend. Jeff Doctor meldon will listen to
all my wacky ideas and give honest thought and, input
no matter how STUPID i had ideas. Were that was my, Friend.
Jeff Doctor meldrim was a rock in a shaky, world
(03:08:01):
always the voice of reason and. Clarity that was my Friends.
Jeff we're all better for knowing my Friend.
Speaker 11 (03:08:10):
Jeff that Was John. Pickering thank You. John the next,
Up Mark horbin.
Speaker 55 (03:08:20):
OR i just want to take a moment to share
what Doctor meldrum meant to me. Personally you know, what
WHAT i admired about him was the way that he
approached the whole subject of bigfoot or. Sasquatch he didn't
he didn't come at it with any wild claims or.
(03:08:41):
Exaggeration he came at it as a scientist first and.
Foremost he was, professional, factual and he really took the
time to explain the science behind his claims clearly you could,
tell and every piece of evidence that he studied he
treated it seria and with.
Speaker 2 (03:09:00):
Respect and for, me that's what made him stand.
Speaker 55 (03:09:03):
Out he wasn't afraid to look at something a lot
of people in his profession may have laughed, at but
he did it with. Integrity he, showed you, know you
could be curious and open minded and still be grounded in.
Science at the same, TIME i also admired how articulate he,
was how careful he was with the, evidence and you,
(03:09:26):
know generally just how he gave the topic credibility just
by the way.
Speaker 7 (03:09:31):
That he carried.
Speaker 55 (03:09:32):
Himself you, know he inspired me and a lot of
people to keep asking questions and, really you, know not
be afraid of the. Unknown and you, know because of
these things and his expertise and anatomy and, anthropology you,
know he was he was the go to for any
researcher seeking validation of their.
Speaker 24 (03:09:51):
Material by, Far, jeff.
Speaker 55 (03:09:54):
He left behind more than. Research he he left an
example of how to seek the truth even when it's not.
Popular And i'll always respect him for.
Speaker 2 (03:10:05):
That you, know he will truly be. Missed god, Bless.
Speaker 11 (03:10:12):
Thank, You Mark. Corman next up Is Christopher Lee. Hilton m, hm.
Speaker 2 (03:10:21):
Can you pause that for one? Second, sure let's, see
oh abe ask WHETHER i have talked With John. Minzinski,
NO i have. NOT i lost touch With. JOHN i
do know That john And jeff remained in. Contact But
john's also just a, brilliant brilliant, man AND i have
(03:10:46):
not made contact with. Him i'd love, TO i just
don't have his contact, Info so go ahead And jeff.
Speaker 11 (03:10:53):
Right this Is Christopher Lee.
Speaker 36 (03:10:55):
Helton like, EVERYBODY i was stunny to hear the passing
of Doctor Jeff. Mildrum he was a legend in the
big foot in his asquatch, community Which i've followed for
a long. Time i've been into the subject SINCE i
was thirteen years, old growing up in the country and
(03:11:18):
being a trapper and raising hunting. DOGS i was always
into tracks and where they led and how the animal was.
Moving and when Doctor meldrum came along and he used
his knowledge of the profession of locomotion and foot anatomy
(03:11:45):
to add to this, community it basically was game. Changer
and his Book legend meets. Science why can you say about?
It it's the Best and he was working on a
new one With Doug, hidcheck WHICH i hope still makes it.
(03:12:06):
Out after just, passing ALL i can say, is Doctor,
belgium we will all miss, you AND i don't think
anybody could ever replace what you've done for this. Community thank, you,
Sir rest in, Peace, Jeff.
Speaker 11 (03:12:22):
Thank You. Christopher up next Is David. Dominique this is
a tremendous loss.
Speaker 56 (03:12:34):
Absolutely for his, family but a tremendous loss also to
the entire. Community anyone who Knew jeff would tell you
how wonderful he, was what a great. Person jeff brought
(03:12:54):
the study of cryptozoology And bigfoot in, particular out of
the depths of ridicule and into the realm of legitimate
academic and scientific. Study for, THAT i Think, jeff decades from,
now even his efforts will be regarded as. Legendary it
(03:13:19):
was a privilege and honor to know, him AND i
think he would want for us all to come together
and for everyone to work together to help to continue
the furtherance of.
Speaker 24 (03:13:37):
Study in this. Field we're gonna miss, You.
Speaker 11 (03:13:47):
Jeff thank, You. David next up Is Duene, ziziski.
Speaker 1 (03:14:00):
Doctor Jeff. Melgrum. Damn what CAN i? Say what can
we all?
Speaker 57 (03:14:06):
Say the man dedicated his life to researching this, creature
nothing but, respect And i'm sure we will all miss him.
Speaker 1 (03:14:20):
GREATLY i KNOW i.
Speaker 57 (03:14:21):
Will just to give you an, EXAMPLE i met the
man many years, ago.
Speaker 2 (03:14:28):
And it was kind of.
Speaker 57 (03:14:29):
ODD i met him at his, table bought a few,
things came back to his. Table he was, gone money laying,
everywhere And i'm, like are you really just gonna leave
this money laying? Out SO i took it upon myself
to get behind his, table sit in his, seat and
(03:14:55):
continue monitoring his table and greet viewers and tell him
that he would be back. SOON i don't know where he.
WENT i believe he went to get something to, eat
but that was real exciting for, me and it continued
(03:15:17):
and was kind of a joke between us both for
every conference. Since so that's my story With. Jeff what
a great. Guy he will be greatly, missed and thank
you so much for this forum for us to give
(03:15:42):
our condolences and share maybe a lighthearted story as to
how awesome this man was and will always.
Speaker 1 (03:15:53):
Be thank.
Speaker 11 (03:15:56):
You thank, You. Dwayne next is uh Dere Derek.
Speaker 40 (03:16:06):
RANDALLS i met Doctor Jeff meldram in nineteen ninety. Six
he walked into my office unexpectedly and asked me to
join The North American Aid, project and it pretty much
changed my. Life he was unexpected and became kind of
(03:16:27):
out of, nowhere AND i was overwhelmed with the honor
of having him asked me to join his research. PROJECT
i worked with him hand in hand over the years
and learned so much from. Him he's such a, wise
wise human being and so gracious and so, articulate.
Speaker 13 (03:16:49):
AND i, ALWAYS.
Speaker 40 (03:16:52):
I always just felt like a better human AFTER i
had spent time with, him because he was just so
damn genuine and so. Nice Jeff meldram put authenticity into
the Big foot. Subject without, HIM i have no idea
where this subject would be.
Speaker 11 (03:17:11):
Today he added.
Speaker 40 (03:17:14):
Intelligence and wisdom in common sense to an otherwise really
difficult subject to. STUDY i am incredibly thankful THAT i
was able to share as much time with him AS i.
Did he got very involved with our research project and
(03:17:38):
came to our property with The olympic project multiple, times
and that enabled researchers to have one on one time with.
Him and he was just very generous with his wisdom
in his. Time AND i have to, SAY i love that,
man AND i missed him very, much AND i feel
(03:17:58):
like he was taken to earth THAT i will be
forever thankful for my time with him and the fact
that he always dumb things down well enough for me
to understand just what the heck he was talking. About
he was a great.
Speaker 1 (03:18:18):
Man he will be very.
Speaker 40 (03:18:19):
Missed, YEAH i hope you rest in.
Speaker 58 (03:18:22):
Peace jeff's.
Speaker 11 (03:18:26):
Good, yeah thank. You, Derek eric.
Speaker 2 (03:18:30):
Was the founder of The Olympic.
Speaker 11 (03:18:33):
Project you, know just at pause for a. Second aside
from just Doctor meldrim's massive, CONTRIBUTIONS i don't know that
there's a better legacy of any human being just to
have been loved that. Much everybody liked, Him, yeah you
know WHAT i. Mean if if you didn't like, him
(03:18:53):
it was, you it wasn't. HIM i, mean he just
was such a, nice, kind, likable humble you can't things about.
Speaker 2 (03:19:02):
Him he was just So it's such a combination of
so many amazing. Things that's. So AND i loved when
he said he always felt like a better human after
he spent time With. Jeff that's exactly the WAY i always.
Speaker 11 (03:19:21):
Felt what a, way just what a way to be,
Remembered to be loved that. Much it's just a phenomenal,
legacy all. Right Next Jeremiah. Byron, Hey, doug this Is.
Speaker 59 (03:19:34):
JEREMIAH i just wanted to share a few THOUGHTS i
had about Doctor. Meldrum took a few minutes to really
think about, it AND i feel that there's three things
we can definitely apply to our own lives from the
example of Doctor. Meldram, one you know thinking about, him
(03:19:58):
he was always giving with his TIME i.
Speaker 6 (03:20:00):
AM i mean he.
Speaker 59 (03:20:02):
PROBABLY i would guess he has a record of the
individual who's gone on the most bigfoot, podcast and it's
he would go on every podcast pretty much that asked,
him which was incredible a man that's as busy as he.
Is BUT i think the reason he did, that AND
(03:20:23):
i never got to ask, him but the reason he
probably did that was he's also was always very giving
with his, knowledge and he wanted to make sure that
the information people.
Speaker 2 (03:20:35):
Need to know about bigfoot got out.
Speaker 59 (03:20:36):
There AND i myself, PERSONALLY i get a lot of
stuff in my email For Bigfoot society AND i would
be sending him messages all the time like, hey Doctor,
maldrum can you look at these? Footprints what are your?
Thoughts and he was always very giving with his time his,
knowledge letting me, know, hey this is obviously know a
(03:21:02):
fake track and here's, why SO i would know it
for the. Future, also the other the third and last
thing he was always very giving with was his. Patients
we can learn to be more, patients to be more.
Patient from his, example the doc had to put up
with a, lot AND i mean you only had to
(03:21:22):
go over This facebook account and see the kind of
things that people would. Say and he was very, PATIENT
i believe with the. Community there were, times you, know,
however when you know you need you need to stand,
up you need to be firm and AND i don't
think anyone can fault him for those. Times and you
can see, that AND i mean there's a classic example
(03:21:43):
of him In renee To hinden if you go over
to The Stasquatch archives, channel which is a great YouTube
channel to, watch but more often than, not of, course
Doctor meldrum was an extremely patient. Individual we can all
learn from that for the.
Speaker 2 (03:22:01):
Future AND.
Speaker 59 (03:22:06):
I just want to say thank, You Thanks dougs for
giving us the opportunity to share some some thoughts about
Doctor meltrum and hopefully we can strive to be as
great an individual as he was in the. Community so thank.
Speaker 2 (03:22:20):
You so that Was Jeremiah byron from he did mention
it from the Big Foot society. Podcast And jeremiah is
also one of the nicest uh generous People i've ever.
Met he's.
Speaker 1 (03:22:38):
Amazing sounds, like, yeah, no he's.
Speaker 2 (03:22:42):
Great next we Have i'm so glad we have The Invisible. Michael.
Speaker 7 (03:22:46):

Speaker 2 (03:23:01):
Go this, family whoever you, know this is.
Speaker 23 (03:23:05):
Being documented. Absolutely what's, Next? Jeff next up is Wit. Helton, Okay,
hi my name is Wit.
Speaker 2 (03:23:15):
Helton i'd just like to take. It, uh you can't
pull it?
Speaker 7 (03:23:21):
Out what we.
Speaker 2 (03:23:21):

it next.
Speaker 11 (03:23:24):

QUIET i COULD i could. It it was really, Quiet
SO i.
Speaker 2 (03:23:32):
Can't all, Right i'd rather have him recorded and we'll
play it next.
Speaker 11 (03:23:36):
Week so the rest of these at sea here this,
okay this is the name he says here Is Michael.
Anne i'm not sure if that's the name or, not

OKAY i didn't know what that was. Here he is.
Speaker 1 (03:23:58):
Doctor.
Speaker 60 (03:23:58):
Meldrum you were an inspiration to a, generation your, students
to those chasing, cryptids to families that got together to
watch your programs, together to friends and family that would
travel to different conventions to enjoy family time and time
(03:24:21):
with friends at Different bigfoot. Conventions your inspiration to learn
more to educate ourselves has been nothing but a god
set to many. People your, Book Legend Meet science brought
myself and co workers with lots of different interests together
(03:24:41):
and gave us something to talk. About was a great
icebreaker before any of us really got into any of
This bigfoot. Topic it was a book that was passed,
around but it brought me back to my days of
going to school for anthropology and, archaeology which hopefully i'll
go back and finish out my doctorate after talking to
(03:25:03):
you some time. Ago i'm going to miss our, conversations
be it About, bigfoot be it about other, topics and
sharing different life, interests including some of your. Travels i'm
going to miss being in conferences and getting those moments
to talk with. You you really have been an inspiration
(03:25:26):
to many. People you inspired me enough to look at
things outside the, box and some of those techniques have
been passed on to other people in lots of other different.
Fields SO i can thank you for that interest in
the Big foot topic and thinking outside the box which
has inspired many more. People thank you again for all
(03:25:50):
those great conversations and be able to bounce ideas off
you throughout the.
Speaker 11 (03:25:55):
Years all, right thank, You. Michael that could be the guy,
that that could be the guy or left here this.
ONE i don't have a full, name he just, Says.
Mike here we.
Speaker 61 (03:26:08):
GO i never had the privilege of beating Doctor, meldrum
BUT i never heard anyone say one bad thing about.
Him Doctor meldrum was a pioneer in the field of bigfoot.
Research he was someone who created a bridge that made
(03:26:32):
the subject less, taboo and he led the charge for
others in mainstream science to get involved in bigfoot, research
express their interest in, it and not be afraid to
explore the possibility of such a creature. Existing you, know
his contributions to this field were. Invaluable they completely reshaped
(03:26:57):
bigfoot research by adding scientific plausibility to the, theories talking,
points and potential evidence out. There BUT i think above,
all Doctor, belgrum he leaves behind A he leaves behind
this foundational legacy that will be carried on by the
(03:27:19):
new generation of, researchers, investigators and content creators that he
inspired to join this. Community and to that, point the
bigfoot community it may have lost a revered icon in this.
Field but perhaps we can take comfort in knowing that
(03:27:41):
Doctor meldrum's memory will continue to live, on and perhaps
now he might finally know the truth behind the elusive
mystery that he dedicated so many years of his life
trying to.
Speaker 11 (03:27:56):
Solve think you might that Was.
Speaker 7 (03:28:00):
Mike excuse, Me?
Speaker 2 (03:28:02):
Lucci oh, yeah it's.
Speaker 11 (03:28:07):
Amazing you know EVERYBODY i recognize his. Voice, yeah all,
Right i've got, UH i have too left Now and
these are both. Anonymous maybe they'll SAY.
Speaker 2 (03:28:17):
I don't want. Anonymous it wasn't loud. Enough it's is.
Speaker 11 (03:28:21):
Sad what's?
Speaker 2 (03:28:23):
That one of them was not loud?
Speaker 11 (03:28:25):
Enough? YEAH i did this. One this one we can.
Speaker 40 (03:28:28):
Hear it's a big foot In New.
Speaker 58 (03:28:33):
York todd, here this loss Of joff besides just good
hand that he, was AND i had the honor of
spending the day with, him set up a booth next
to him to. Talk but you, know where does the
science go when we lose a legend like? This i'm.
Speaker 1 (03:28:57):
Too.
Speaker 13 (03:28:57):
Soon we lost something.
Speaker 58 (03:28:59):
Huge he's he was putting science to the. Legend now
we're just back to a.
Speaker 32 (03:29:03):
Legends well, said, yeah thank, You, todd last one, here Last,
okay who gets the last.
Speaker 11 (03:29:15):
Slot this is also. ANONYMOUS i have a feeling you're
gonna know who it. IS i, don't but this sounds
like somebody who definitely knew. Him so it's last one.
Speaker 24 (03:29:25):
Here oh, my oh.
Speaker 62 (03:29:28):
My those were words That jeff would use when he
was excited about. Something And Shane, courson you know Doctor,
meldrem he doesn't get excited or didn't get excited about,
much but when he, did he would share those words with,
you and you knew you shared something of significance and
had his, exactly which was.
Speaker 1 (03:29:48):
Always very important to.
Speaker 62 (03:29:50):
Me AND i learned a passing Of jeff while out
camping in The Gifford pinchot in a remote spot In Washington.
State AND i learned the news early in the, morning
and it shook shook me, hard LIKE i did a
lot of, people And i'm not ashamed to say THAT
(03:30:10):
i did. Cry jeff was bigger than, life bigger Than.
Bigfoot jeff was a wonderful family man and the dear
friend and like Like, Manny i'm gonna miss him. Tons
he was an, encourager a, friend somebody that you go
(03:30:33):
to with a question and he'll give you an honest.
Answer AS i get older and you, know heavily involved
in This sasquats, RESEARCH i realize That i've been standing
on the shoulders of, giants And jeff is definitely one
of those giants and always will. BE i don't think
(03:30:55):
there's anybody in this, field in The sasquatch, world as
an academic or whatever have, you that has done more
for this subject, matter that has brought it to the,
forefront that's put his career on the. Line man he,
(03:31:16):
has he has some tough shoulders and for many of
us we had to lean on lean.
Speaker 1 (03:31:21):
On him at.
Speaker 62 (03:31:22):
Times and, Unfortunately jeff is irreplaceable and that hurts. Me
irreplaceable as a friend and irreplaceable as A sasquatch you,
know investigative. Researcher and LIKE i, Said i'm gonna miss some.
(03:31:42):
Tons But jeff has left a legacy that will not be.
Forgotten And, Jeff jeff is just one of those guys
that made you want to do better at what you were.
Doing when he came To sasquatch, research he held a
high bar And i'm still trying to get. There but
(03:32:07):
his legacy will go, on his work will go, on

have walked Besides jeff in the, field Like shane And John,
(03:33:07):
pickering from colleagues who admired his courage in, academia and
from listeners who were touched by his words and his.
Work Doctor Jeff maldron was more than a. Scientist he
was a bridge between skepticism and, belief between curiosity and,
(03:33:29):
evidence between the known and the. Unknown jeff showed us
that it's possible to be rigorous and yet open minded
at the same. Time and perhaps that's really the greatest
lesson That jeff leaves. Us the true science is not
(03:33:49):
about closing, doors but about being daring enough to open
them through susquatch leegamate science. Too that will remain unfinished
In jeff's hands at this. Time the spirit of that, project,
though in his drive to seek, answers to examine the,
(03:34:10):
footprints to listen to the voices long. Ignored it's definitely
going to live long in all of. Us and, yes
we will try to finish his. Book it may be
done to the point of just lacking some of the forensic,
conclusions and if that's the, CASE i do have different
stages of the, book and if that's the, case we
(03:34:35):
will get it. Finished but To jeff's, family, colleague, students
you know our hearts are with. You to the community
of researchers and, enthusiasts may we honor him with just
by remembering his, words but by carrying forward his work
(03:34:55):
with the same courage and. Integrity, Betty i'm sorry that
he embodied.
