We're gonna be looking at the seaotter for a Minute's an endangered species.
The adult sea otter is the smallestof the marine mammals, one of the
cutest ones from too many. It'sa member of the weasel family, if
you didn't know, and the onlymarine mammal it doesn't have blubber to keep
it warm. Instead, the seaotter relies on its thick fur to keep
its body temperature around one hundred degreeshumans around ninety seven point eight or ninety

eight point seven. And the seaotters also have two layers of incredibly dense
fur, more than a million fibersper square inch. But did you know
that they also had baggy pockets ofblue skin. That's right. The sea
otter uses these pockets to store foodit has gathered. It also stores favorite
rocks that it uses for cracking openmullusks and clams. Underneath the guard here

is another layer of fur that stayscompletely dry. The sea otters four paws
are very agile. They can rub, twist, and pull with a great
amount of strength. The fore pawsalso have retractable claws. The palms have
tough pads that help with gripping.Their legs or fore legs are webbed and
looks sort of like flippers. Thelast digit is the longest, which makes
swimming on its back easy but walkingon land kind of awkward. The sea

otters tail is very muscular, helpingwith steering and swimming. The sea otter
also have great eyesight above and belowthe water. Their nostrils and ears close
when underwater, and sea otters havea good sense of smell can hear very
well. Their whiskers also sense vibrationsin the water, and this of course
comes in handy when hunting for prey. And the last little fun fact that

the sea otter can hold its breathup to five minutes underwater. All these
parts working together make the sea otterone fantastic, furry little creature.
