Four of them today, four of them tomorrow. We'll hop

twelfth in Saint Louis. Get your tickets now at NCAA
(00:37):
dot com Slash Frozen four. First game to get underway
on Thursday is in the Toledo region, and that is
Ohio State and Boston University over under a six and
a half. BU is a favorite, but not by a
whole bunch minus one forty, while Ohio State is a
plus one ten.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, some of these two three games, I think we've
got really close odds on. I can tell you though,
as I kind of look at how all of the
lines were set, it does look like there was some
pretty heavy AI involved. And I don't even know that
DAI is deep in this going into matchups and all that.
I honestly feel like it was looking at the sixteen
(01:21):
teams and honestly having a number already assigned for what one, sixteen, two, fifteen, three, fourteen,
what the price was going to be. So I feel
like in the middle we get a lot of middle prices,
and this bu slight favorite as the number two seed.
I don't think that they should be that much of
a favorite. I love Ohio State here getting plus money
(01:44):
on them, that's even better. I'm not sure about the
over under here. I would say under six point five.
But then if I look at a game like b
it was in that position last week where they were
down five to one and they score one late and
it becomes five to two and then you go over.
So I just said I would stay away for the
(02:05):
over under.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Yeah, I wouldn't touch the over underhair.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
I think if you're looking for value, anytime you hit
these middle seeds, I think more of the value tends
to trend towards the underdog. Anyway, largely excuse me, largely
because Ohio State in Boston University are pretty close. You're
looking at that kind of that seven to ten matchup
out of the sixteen teams, you get them at plus
(02:30):
one to ten. I think there's just value there in
picking Ohio State, whether or not you think they're going
to advance for betting purposes.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
The other half of that bracket has the number two
overall seed, number one in the Toledo Regional. Michigan State
taking on Cornell five and a half is the over
under in this game. Michigan State is favored at minus
two to eighty, Cornell the underdog at plus two ten.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, this this one and the fourteen versus free game,
we're both have the exact same hodds. And that's where
I saw AI coming into place. That takes one verse
sixteen says that should be a slaughterhouse. That takes the
next two, and they just keeps creepier closer. We did
not see any anything where the higher ranked seed was
(03:20):
not the favorite here this one here in Michigan State.
You know they're a good favorite. But Cornell, the way
that they played of late, if they got to the
frozen four right now, it doesn't surprise me. I don't
mind the underdog here this one. I really I do
the underdog here.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
I think this tournament in general, as we break down
some of these games, look at them. This is one
of the most competitive tournaments head to head that I
can remember in years we're all sixteen teams have a shot.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
To get out of the first round.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
And I know that we normally say that like it's
a one game playoff, you can get through any but
this is this really holds true for this one. I
think when you look at Cornell and what they did
leading up to the tournament, how they got there, and
what they looked like over the last month of the season,
I think it develops a lot more value and a
lot more real that Cornell is a bad matchup for
(04:13):
a lot of teams for a lot of reasons, Michigan
State being one of them. I know Michigan State's a
very good team, but no one game playoff. I think
that comes back to what we were saying. What I
was just saying, this is a really good field. Cornell
being so lowly rated is a sign of what happened
to ECAC.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
So I love the odds on Cornell.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
I also like the over here at five and a
half getting a little bit more value than normal, largely.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Because I think Michigan State can score.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
And I think Cornell can also put the puck in
the back of the net. While obviously the numbers are
a bit down defensively, over the course of the season.
So I do like the fact that there is that
five and a half is up there, because I feel
like that's just a way too low of the number
for these two teams.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
We do consider maybe a parlay of Cornell and the
over here. It's a little bit of a risky bet.
I think it would pay about four to one. But
would you make that bet?
Speaker 5 (05:12):
I would, And if I don't mind lose, If I
don't mind losing money, I wouldn't be talking about Gambley anyway, right,
or you wouldn't be placing a bet.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
But I do like pairing the two of them.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Because I'm so sure that this game could go over
and I'm not saying it's going to, but I feel
like the likelihood of getting to six goals in this
game is much higher than some of the other games
that if you really do believe Cornell can win, you
could probably make some good coin on it.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
I'll throw one in here, I would say over but
like a four to two game with an empty netter
because I watched Cornell and Quinnipiac and the Ecacs at
at Lake Placid, and it felt like watching Cornell from
twenty years ago, just how they were able to slow
down the game and take away all of the space
around Quinnipiac.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I agree with you there, ed they really do. Going back,
I watched the ECAC final, and once they got that lead,
I felt like that was it was very secure because
they did have a lot of the brink lockdown.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Let's go to the Fargo Regional. The first game there
has the first seed in the fourth seed in the region,
and it's Western Michigan and Minnesota State. Five and a
half is the over under. Western Michigan a heavy favorite
at minus two sixty Minnesota State plus one ninety five.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
This one for me should be pretty easy. I know
that the number on Minnesota State is great. I know
they have good goaltending. But Western Michigan is They're a team.
They feel just like the team of destiny. I honestly
think that despite us that, I think they're in a
hard region. I think Western are going to come out
of this. So you're not going to get me to
pick against them at all tonight. In terms of the
(06:56):
over under at the flat number, I'd leave that alone.
But even though it's minus two sixty not great number,
I'd be going with Western here.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
I'd like to pair Western with somebody as a parlay
here because it's minus two sixty, because I like what
Western's done a lot, especially as postseason plays come.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
I think they've really stepped up to that next level.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Minnesota State, despite having another CCHA championship and getting to
the tournament, I just don't think Minnesota State has that
magic that made them one of those number one teams
that we saw when they were going to the Frozen.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Four, and you really need to have that.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Western Michigan might be the best team in college hockey
right now, peaking the right time too, So I really
like Western Michigan. With the odds minus two to sixty,
I wouldn't mind pairing this one with maybe another bed
along the way that's got some poorer odds to try
and parlay and make some money off of it.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
The other half of that bracket in Fargo has UMass
versus Minnesota. Minnesota last weekend of the season dropped the
number five overall, so this is a two to three matchup.
Minnesota minus one ninety five, you mass plus one point
fifty over under is five and a half. And let
me throw in two thoughts here, and you guys go
(08:14):
where you want Minnesota has been susceptible to some upsets
this season, and U Mass is probably the biggest sleeper
team in the country, although teams in Hockey East haven't
slept on them.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
I think that's a big part of it there. It
is that people, teams, coaches, they should know that this
HU Mass team is pretty good and if you've seen
any tape that they can have the speed, they have
some scoring depth. They're young in the back end, but
that's about it. I like this HU Mass team. All
that said is I feel like this long way off
(08:50):
might have been a good thing for Minnesota. I know
that nobody out there will agree with me on this,
but I don't mind this layoff for them. I well
see early if they have their legs, when they have
their legs, and can they slow down you Mass from
the start. But there's plenty of talent on this Minnesota team.
They go out there and play, they will win.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
And this is what I was getting at with finding
the parlay and finding the right odds. I don't love
the odds on Minnesota at minus one ninety five, but
I love Western Michigan to win its game.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
So if you're confident over confident, I guess I should
stay in Western Michigan.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
You can boost the odds on Minnesota with parlay and
kind of run back and say, all right, I'm not
really sure about Minnesota, but I'll use the Western Michigan
game to pair two favorites together. I really like what
you Mass did over to get itself into the tournament
between New Mass and Penn State. You Mass, I think
got a little bit more credit for what it was
(09:51):
able to do in Hockey East.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
They're not going to sneak.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
Up on Minnesota Minnesota, and they're just they're a good team.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
If if you're not.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Taking you Mass, I would take you Mass outright if
if I'm confident in that, if I'm taking Minnesota, I'd
like to pair that and try and get some better
out because they don't love Minnesota at minus one ninety five.
But if this were a drawback to a one ten,
I'd probably feel a lot better at it, and you
can maybe get a plus out it with Western.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
That's the Thursday brackets will pause and we'll come back
with Friday.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
We're back with usccho Edge Friday games coming up. The
first one to get underway in Match Vegas, appropriately titled
for this program, Bentley and Boston College. Six and a
half is the over under Bentley is a plus five
twenty and Boston College is a minus eight fifty. And
(11:24):
while we don't always do it in playoffs, this one
also will be designated the Pizza Game in honor of Dan.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
I'll actually let Dan go for us with this one.
Good ahead, Dan, I like that. Ed.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
This is Reuben Bault twenty twenty five. This is look.
I can't even begin to tell you. When it broke
last week and Bentley got to the tournament. How excited
I was that I knew it was going to be
against Boston College, largely so I could somehow find a
way to boo myself.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
But look, here's the thing.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
When you look at a game like this, Boston College
having had the layoff is probably, like we said about Minnesota,
one of the best teams in the country, getting a
good rest coming out angry.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
They've been a very good first period team.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
This is a Bentley team that has not fared well
at times in the first period. So when you're looking
lining up this game, the first twenty is going to
dictate a lot if BC doesn't get on Bentley pretty
quickly and get out to that lead.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Bentley has been exceptional in the second period.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
They came back on Army earlier in the year, came
back on Holy Cross in the Atlanta Hockey Championship, So
that leads directly into if BC doesn't, they're facing an
old team, one of the oldest teams in college hockey,
that plays physical hockey, defensive minded, with really good goalie.
I wouldn't be so confident as the odds would say
on Boston College in this I think the first twenty
(12:46):
is going to dictate a lot about what's going to
happen with this, and I'm not so sure that Boston
and I'm not even saying that, like I can break
this one down right down the middle, because I'm basically
talking myself against myself here.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I don't love the fact that everyone you.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Can't assume that Boston College is just going to throttle Bentley.
It very well could happen, but you just can't assume
that that's going to happen in the first round.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I don't disagree there, and I don't just put an
assumption there. I will put a lot of ifs.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Though.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
If Boston College gets on the board early, it is
two goal lead for them. I think right now goes
pretty far. Don't forget. I know we're to talk a
lot about Connor Hasley in this matchup. Jacob Foller is
likely going to win the Richter Award this year. That's
(13:41):
a pretty good goaltender to go again. So it's going
to be difficult for Bentley to score goals. I don't
think they can win a seven to six game or
a five to four game. Even it is going to
have to be two nothing, two to one. Goldie stealing
the game it's going to have to be the same
blueprint Denver had last year.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I agree with that, and of course they have not
forgotten losing to Northeastern in the Hockey's playoffs, and I
don't think they're going to let that fade from their
memory and they're going to come out looking to redeem
themselves from that. By the way, I've had people ask
me if bent Lee, Dan Rubin and BC Dan Rubin
(14:21):
are the same person, and I looked it up, and
there's also a neurologist and a dancer for the Boston
Ballet with the same name, and Dan is all four.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Of them, and I would like to I wish I
was a neurologist. My mom would be so much happier
with me for my career choices. There's also a photographer
that's a Dan Rubin, although my brother gets the cake
on this one because Michael Rubin is yeah much.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
There's got to be hundreds of them.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yeah, Denver on Providence. What's that one of them is
a lot more money than us.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
That's why we're doing this, and he's doing whatever he's
doing in Denver and Providence. This is the exception to
the lower seed not being the underdog Denver. It's eight nine.
Denver is minus two hundred. Providence is plus one point
fifty four. Over under in this one is five point five.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Denver is not a good price to take in this one.
But I just don't have a lot of confidence in
Providence right now. I feel like there are teams that
are going to rally from where they were, like a
Minnesota Boston College that they've taken some time off. But
there's something about Providence that their offense has let them down.
(15:40):
If they get the goals. There were a difficult team
to be because they played great defense, but I'm just
concerned about them. Give me Denver here.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
I don't think there's a whole lot that we actually
disagree on, I think throughout this postseason, but I just
don't I don't like either one.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
Of these teams, frankly, to get very deep.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
If Boston College advances, I think Denver and Providence I
don't think either one particularly matches up great with BC.
I know Providence has beaten BC a number of times
this year, but Denver, for what it's worth, I think
is a hair ahead of Providence.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
The fact they have a lot of the postseason experience.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
They're still the defending champion and the Providence just hasn't
looked right. So falling into this matchup I don't think
was great for the Friars. I really like the under
and this too at five and a half. I just
I don't think this one's gonna be attract me. And
like I said, Boston College advances, I like whoever wins
(16:40):
this one to go down in the next one Bentley advances.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Then all bets are often based on the wins.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Let's go to the last region, one that has been
criticized for a low attendance and a dead atmosphere, but
we'll be living here in Allentown. The early game is
Quinnipiac and Yukon, two Nutmeg State rivals who have already
met this season. Really close odds in this one. Yukon
(17:08):
is a slight favorite at minus one forty. Quinnipiac plus
one ten. Over under on this one is five point five.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
I'll start with the over under first, hammered the under.
This feels like a game that will be somewhere five four, three,
could be two easily to nothing. I think it was
two nothing late last time, and no, I think it
one one late last time and the attend two teams played.
Yukon scored three goal game last time. That's what I
(17:38):
just I think this is such an outstanding game. Could
Quinnipiac win this? Absolutely? I like Yukon the way they're
playing right now, the way that they handled Boston University
last week of the Garden that showed how good they are.
If the state doesn't get too big for them. I
like Yukon here. Value you probably is with Quinnipiac, though,
(18:00):
there's no doubt about that.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
The irony to me on that is that, and I
like you On here as well. The irony though, is
if the stage gets isn't too big.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
And what I feel like is getting Quinnipiac.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
In the first round actually lowers the stage because one
they've played each other and two it's not in New England,
so even though it's in Allentown, all of the attention
that's going to be on Penn State.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I think it takes a little bit of.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
The spotlight off the early game off of a Twilight.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Type game at five PM.
Speaker 5 (18:29):
I think that actually aids Yukon, especially because it's Quinnipiac,
which for all of the talk about Quinnipiac. It really
hasn't been the postseason ECAC success, but has been at
the national level.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
But this doesn't feel like that type of Quinnipiac team.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
This feels like one that is going to go into
a matchup against Yukon. It's not a great matchup for
the for them, but I like Yukon where it's at,
and you're right, I like I love hammering under hair
just because I don't think there's goals at all.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
The other half of the bracket at eight PM and
Allentown has Penn State in Maine over under five and
a half. On this one, Penn State is a plus
one twenty Maine is a minus one fifty four. You
mentioned the early game not being a track meet.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Could this be one?
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Oh, yes, absolutely could be. Maine doesn't want to play
that style, but they get up the ice. They still
shoot the puck as well as any team in college hockey.
They generated a lot of offensive opportunities for Maine. It's
just about making sure that your goaltending is solid and
you're not giving up those back door chances. Second chance
(19:35):
is all of that sort of stuff slowing Penn State down.
I think Maine does want to play a slower game,
but they get paced up ice themselves, so if they're
going to have success, their transition game is going to
have to be played with some sort of speed.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
I know this is technically a neutral site game, but
considering that Maine gets last, changes the better seed, and
has been a pretty good away team from or and
O this year, I like where Maine is, and especially
a team like that can't handle the moment and has
handled the moment at the Garden. I know there was
(20:12):
a lot of main support, but I feel like Maine
playing a Penn State team that really won its way
into the tournament. That was really impressive what Penn State
did at the end of the year. But I also
like Maine a lot.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
I know that.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
It goes to I know I'm picking a lot of
Hockey East teams and saying I like Hockey East teams
here or there, but Maine is just one of those
teams that I think is National Championship ready. They've got
speed up front, they've got skilled they can play the spoke,
very good defense, an amazing goaltender. I feel like, now
(20:45):
that I've said that they're absolutely going to lose this
game for nothing, but I've really like to keep hammering
Maine as much as possible if you don't like the
odds there. This is another one where I would take
a team that is much more of a secure bet,
whether it's Michigan State coming back to Michigan State and
pair it with the main odds to try and get
some better odds or Western Michigan was the one that
(21:08):
I used earlier. Excuse me, I think there's a I
think there's a really good opportunity in there to get
some better odds on Maine and a parlay somewhere.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
The best thing is having a home crowd. The worst
thing is having no crowd.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
But you can get really charged up with a crowd
that's on your case. So I think either way, the
large turnout for Penn State and probably a good contingent
for Maine should make that a rollicking building in Allentown.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
One last thing, I'll know we're not.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Going to be able to do the odds for the
finals in each regional, but you could see two rematches
of league championships, Maine in Yukon in that bracket, and
then Michigan State and Ohio State. That game went to
two overtimes. I bet if they end up in the
championship of that regional, it's going to be ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
I think both of those have the potential to rematch
as well. I think that certainly Maine and Yukon are
playing well enough and no reason to doute Ohio State
right now. And if Michigan State can do take care
of business, get there. Yeah. It's I love seeing those
and you. I feel like if you have an opportunity
(22:22):
for those things to align, they almost always do. I
think we could see some rematches quickly.
