Forestil dig Facebook uden nyheder. For nogen er det no big deal, de bruger mest facebook til events eller private posts, men for mange af os vil det være en essentiel del af grunden til at vi overhovedet bruger Facebook, der forsvandt.

Det blev faktisk virkelighed for Facebooks australske brugere, da det sociale medie onsdag d. 17. februar valgte at blokere for deling af australsk nyhedsindhold. Det gjorde de fordi de var utilfredse med en ny lov, som var ved at blive gennemført, hvor Facebook skal betale for links til nyhedshistorier som brugerne deler.

Baggrunden for loven var at, Facebook og Google står for 70 procent af det australske online-annoncemarked, der omsætter for omkring syv milliarder dollar om året. De penge ville man gerne ha omfordelt til nyhedsmedierne.

Der hersker efterhånden en folkestemning om at der skal gøres op med den enorme indflydelse som techgiganter som Facebook og Googles har. At de skal tvinges til delvist at slippe eller i hvert fald at dele ud af den massive værdi de skaber i kraft af alle deres brugere.

Mikkel Flyverbom er Professor i Kommunikation og Digital Transformation ved Copenhagen Business School, CBS. Han kan give et overblik over fighten mellem Australien og Techgiganterne Facebook og Google, og hvordan den kamp mon vil påvirke os i resten af verden.
