Speaker 3 (01:00):
Hey, Hey, Hey, what's going on? Guys? Welcome to another
incredible episode of Vigilantes Radio, live right here on iHeartRadio,
and I am your host, Deani. We have a very
special guest for you.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
You could definitely want to stick around for that, and
as a matter of fact, text your homies, your family
members are even shared on social media right now and
let them know that we are about to dive deep
into another interview. Before I bring my guests on, I
do want to say there is an enormous difference between
going slow and stopping completely. Even if you're making just
(01:37):
a little bit of progress. That's far better than being
at a standstill or falling behind. Even when you cannot
do everything, you can still do something. When you cannot
move as fast as you would like to. That's no
reason to stop, no reason to give up. Go ahead
and continue, move in at whatever pace you can, and
(02:00):
making just a little progress will over time put you
much farther ahead than making no progress at all. But
you know that already right when your face with more
than you can possibly do, feeling overwhelmed and letting it
grind you to a halt, it's not going to help.
Pick one thing, start to work on it, and then
(02:21):
the next, and little by little you'll be getting it
all done. Running swiftly is great when you can do it,
and when you can't, there's no reason for despair because
walking slowly will just as surely and steadily move you forward,
and we'll keep the positive momentum alive. There's a rule
like what is it. If something's in motion, it stays emotion.
(02:43):
If something's at rest, it stays at rest. That is true.
Chip away at the mountain steadily and with determination, not
only would you get through it, you'll end up stronger
and wiser for the experience. Take that from me, Coach Deny,
that is my word.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Are you ready?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
You live in the mix. Let's get this started, all right, all.
Speaker 3 (03:32):

Hello d thank you for having me.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Absolutely, thank you, thank you, You're awesome. What is up
with you this morning?
Speaker 5 (05:01):
I was able to get my coffee, so where after
I can start?
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Oh yeah, I always got to start with the Joe, right,
good cup of Joe. It's tea for me, but I
think it's all the same.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, I like tea too. I'm trying to you know.
They have that mushroom coffee and all that.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yes, try that that mushroom car. I do the mushroom tea.
But yeah, both of them are are are great. I've heard.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
Okay, if you feel like friends like energy, could you
use to drink coffee or no?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, but I always drink my coffee black, so I
didn't notice much difference. Okay, yeah, uh so yeah. So
what's been on your heart and mind lately? As you
keep pushing creative boundaries and aiming to make up positive impact,
(06:03):
just getting.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
The word out of basically.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
Bringing together the people unity and your voice matters with
this record and getting them out to vote because a
lot of times, you know, we watch and from the sidelines,
and we don't think that our vote counts, but actually does,
and it's important as a community.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Now at this time.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, yeah, some people.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
It's okay.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
I'm just saying, you know, it's important at this time
where everything is politically divided. It doesn't matter so much
of the divide of what your belief is, whether you're
left or right.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
It's just really we are all still one. We're human
and coming together in united we stamp.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Indeed, indeed, so Bill, I've been hearing artists. You know,
some artists are behind voting and you know, putting politics
and music and others like, no, no, I don't touch
politics and music. That should be separate, you know. But
then I have artists like you who who actually champion,
(07:17):
you know, lending your voice, voting, choosing your your rights
and your beliefs, and they think that should be central
in music. Did you ever have that conflict where you like,
maybe I shouldn't talk about politics or anything relating to
having a divide.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Actually I did. That was a major like challenge that
I fat with. But then you know.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
How my dad I was like he instilled in me.
It was his legacy, encouraging me you should.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
Have a book song, And you know, I watched my
dad by growing up firsthand with the impact of similar
engagement and the power of what it was for voting,
and he always implifies that your voice matters.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
It's a real change. It begins with us, with individuals
stepping up.
Speaker 6 (08:16):
And it's important not only to vote on every level
and not just a federal level, but just coming together
and doing it.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
That's the thing. We're responsible as people. We're all here
for a purpose, and what is your purpose?
Speaker 3 (08:36):
You grew up in San Diego, right, I did tell
us about San Diego, and he will.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
We used to be super chargers that we are no
longer supercharged. So all of your telling me, I loved
San Diego, San Diego. It was a platform for me
for getting ground. Did my roots from music. My parents
kept me active. I grew up with a singing family
(09:07):
in the church. I was always the entertainment for the family.
No one did ever complete it songs.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
It was great.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
But actually my aunt, she was a singer and she's
singing on the state level, kind of like the Supremes,
and you know, her past didn't it ended up going
into a different direction. So I was like, I want
to continue this short for my family. So that's what
I'm doing, man, I go home to get grounded and
(09:35):
then I come back and get in the grind.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Absolutely. When did music become a part of your life?
Speaker 6 (09:43):
You know, music has always been a part of my
life and I was little, you know, because it's like
even when you can't speak.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
You could move, you could it seems it's a high vibration.
You know, it sticks with you.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Full thing about music is that it's universal, So it's
always been a part of me.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
I feel like I speak many many languages.
Speaker 6 (10:07):
I've been in plays from junior theaters to the old
glow dance lessons.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
And been active. But I just I love music. I'm
like it brings everybody together. It's a vibe.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Yeah yeah, So what point? Because I know throughout life,
especially at a young age, music is filling your life
in certain capacities. But at some point in time you
became so full of music that it began to flow
out of you. When did that point happen where you
begin to become a creative of the music that you love.
Speaker 6 (10:44):
You know, from the Wadi Houston, in the Celinion and Agel,
they really contributed to my artistry.
Speaker 5 (10:54):
Of me wanting to be active and to go back
and if you really want to go back.
Speaker 6 (11:03):
My parents can't be active in all of the things
like jing A theater of the Old Globe, they can't
be active in dance lessons, and they really built it
up my confidence and it instilled in me the discipline
that you know, you can achieve your dreams.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
And I'm really big on even back in the community.
Speaker 6 (11:24):
And my experience leads to the opportunity of you know,
you constantly learning and growing, but you also have to
give back. That's important because we're here to lift up
others as well, to let them build their power.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
And once you know your power, can anybody stop you?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Indeed, indeed, what sparked your transition into.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Edm Oh wow, okay, that's very interesting. So growing up,
I didn't feel accepted in R and B and all
of that, you know, because like how I articulate, they
were always like, oh, you're not black enough, and I
(12:10):
wanted something where I felt I was just like, it
doesn't matter, you know, it's just a group of vibrations,
high energy and love.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
And I felt that with idioms, I felt that I.
Speaker 6 (12:24):
Could be creative, be myself and just go to different
types that no one's going to be like, oh, that's
not cool. It's it's just like they're happy to be
free from where you.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Are and to get away.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
And that's what I like to bring into music because
so much of the day to day would keep going
and we're caught in the rat race, but getting out
and just sitting with yourself and seeing the world in
a different place.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
So that's that's my tribe.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
That's very interesting. I think growing up I was the
same way. Like in the neighborhood, I had my black friends,
and at school I had black friends. But for me,
I was just interested in different things, and you know,
being interested in other things. People like, oh you're not black,
You're not black enough. So I learned how to, you know,
(13:18):
hang with them, do the black things. But for me,
I had to do it in moderation. I couldn't just
do that all day and then you know, I go
home and do the other stuff I like to do,
like read comics, I like rock music, vampires, you know,
things like that. Growing up and it's like, oh, well
it was wrong with you, But to me, I was
getting into different things, learning about different things. So I
(13:41):
don't know if you had that same kind of experience.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
No, I I totally relate with you. I love it.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
You know.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
I think now.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
That the evolution of the genre, it seems by the
evolution of the consciousness of the genre as artists. I
also believe that the artists continuing social consciousness, that the
genre will continue to expand.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Let's say that consciousness is all high.
Speaker 7 (14:11):
Vibration consciousness vibrations, yeah, deep, yeah, all right.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
So yeah, so I am as sure that you're raising
your vibrations as you're growing through this music industry, all right,
and you're finding different pieces that you love about it,
and as your music started to gain serious momentum. Can
(14:46):
you tell us about the moment that made you feel
like you were truly on your way? Hmm.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
The moment that made me truly feel I was on
my way was when I didn't worry about what the
world out of me hmm, and I quiet the noise
because it's distraction, and I just focused on my purpose
(15:17):
and I live in my truth and I pay it
forward for people to live in there.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Hm hmmm, for our listeners who may be lost. How
did you get to that moment?
Speaker 6 (15:33):
You know, it took a lot of healings for me
to learn to love myself.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
I had like so heavy heard of like adawacas and stuff.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yes, I have, you know I have. I'm a I'm
a nerd geek of guy who knows about things I
should know about.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Well, my cousin is like, so I had a ceremony,
Oh wow, yeah, and I didn't.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
I thought I was perfect.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
I thought they weren't giving me my gifts and let
me behold, that's not what happened.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
That was the hardest thing that ever had to do
in my life.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
But it helped me to be a better person and
to see, you know, who I was, and to get
back to that inner child of loving myself and it's okay,
you know your stars and your past is.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Not your future. It just helps you not to.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
Repeat the lessons and to you know, learn who's good
for you and to see what it is.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, you don't have to answer this, but did you
poop yourself?
Speaker 5 (16:50):
Stop?
Speaker 3 (16:52):
My friend went to like Costa Rica to do that,
and he said the entire week and he was just pooping.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
And I said.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Wow, really, I said, how's this experience though? He said liberating?
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Oh well, yeah, you got all about out here.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I just wonder if you had the same experience.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
No, I did not have that experience.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I guess it's different for everybody, but I have I
have heard of that and the other end as well too.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yeah yeah, yeah, all right, So elections are around the corner.
As we all know, tensions are high for some people.
On this side is all peace and love. Your track
is time to vote. Couldn't be more timely besides, you know,
rallying people to lend their vote or lend their voice
(17:48):
to a vote. What else inspired the creation of this
song and how did you create it?
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Well?
Speaker 6 (17:58):
I I was inspired by my father for this song,
who was a passionate advocate. He's no longer with us
for living our dreams and giving back in fostering community unity.
He told me that coming together as the people is
essential for making a difference in this world. His belief
that change starts with each individual motive motivated me and
(18:22):
encouraged me to help others to get out there, to
go to ensure that your voice is heard and to
speak the truth and to stand up for what you
believe in. But who really like helped me to bring
this project to what it is is collaborating with the
fantastic producer she God in it, and he was nothing
(18:47):
short of transfer transformative. I love to go he you know,
he's a and he worked with icons like Lady Gaga, Sure, Adonna, Prince,
just the name of you.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
He he has an.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Incredible talent for just bringing ideas together and it was
no different working with him on this project. Actually, his
unwavering confidence in his just his sensitive direction, it just
killed anything that I had for the concern for it.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
But he just had a clear vision. He was like,
is going to be an anthem with a powerful message
that will resonate to everyone that hears it, and that's
what it is.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Nice. How did you meet Chico?
Speaker 6 (19:33):
Oh my gosh, Okay, so I've known Chico forever. Actually
I think we met at a Halloween party.
Speaker 3 (19:44):

you listeners in the mood to share your opinions, not

that is coming up real soon. Early registration votes started

(20:43):
So yeah, here it is, guys, it's time to vote.
And then when we come back, we'll put Layer in
our traditional hot seats where she could perform for us
if she wants to. She could rap, sing, do a cooin,
do spoken word, tell us a joke. We love dad jokes,
tell us a story from her life, player instrument to
give some advice, or do nothing at all. That is
(21:04):
cool as well. But for right now here it is
it's time to vote. And also I do want to

party when we come back. All right, stay tuned.

Chico Bennett, what were you dressed to pass?
Speaker 5 (25:48):
I think I was in a catsuit.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
Though it was a cool It was like a bit
alerictyle to you with the cat suit, so it was like, kat,
give me like glo.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
It was yeah, oh yeah, I've seen a few pictures
online and you have your own look you know this.
It's like, I don't know what the call is that?
Uh a skirt or what is that called?
Speaker 5 (26:18):
It's a TQ. Yeah that it's my signature. I like
to bring out my inner child.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Okay, how many colors do you have?
Speaker 5 (26:32):
Probably like it's like one of those like when you
change your outfit in your.
Speaker 6 (26:38):
Shoes is just like a collection. I actually have them
for my glasses too, like you know you're yeah, yeah,
it's pretty cool that way. I know it's my glass.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
Do you have a favorite one? Our favorite color?
Speaker 5 (26:57):
You know? My favorite color is perfect because it's royalty.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Yes, indeed, yes, your birthday. My birthday is in May
made the twenty fourth. I'm a Gemini me too, award
ideally like you, yeah, when is your birthday?
Speaker 5 (27:21):
June first?
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Okay, June, but you're still a Gemini.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
So, hey, family, but do you feel like you have
two sides?
Speaker 3 (27:31):
I feel like I have four sides. My other side
has two sides as well.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Okay, I like that.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Yeah, you feel like you have two sides?
Speaker 5 (27:43):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
But you know.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
I've seen her, I've seen the other side.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
So yeah, yeah, okay, so you master your geminiology, especially
if the other side doesn't come out too much.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
A little bit. It's always a working progress.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
But yeah, oh yeah, okay, did you dress up this year?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Yeah, I was a butterfly?
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Huh unique?
Speaker 6 (28:17):
Yeah, I like butterflies because of the transformation year. You're
always transforming and then can just be free free spirits.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Definitely. So what do you see happening next in your career?
Speaker 6 (28:36):
Next to my career, I see a Grammy. However, I
know it doesn't happen that way, but.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
Let's see.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
I'm I have any put Coppel, I have a podcast
that developing called Mixer that would be coming out, and
then I'm working on bookings and headlines.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
That's like Orlan my DJ as well.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
And just my vision.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
You know, it extends beyond my personal accolades. It's really
about commitment and empowerment. Listening up others and that's it.
You this before a long time.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
