ten, or fifteen years. Andright now you have the power to
initiate a chain reaction of success andachievement that spans a lifetime. Or or

you could let this day slip bywithout harnessing its incredible potential. But why

all right again, welcome to theshow. You're listening to VRL. That's
Vigilantes Radio Live right here on iHeartRadio and I am your host, Deni.
Our interviews are designed to go beyondmusic, news, books, art,
acting, films, technology, education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, and sometimes
(03:43):
even that thing that we call theego. Our interviews are designed to go
behind the scenes and into the mindsof these incredible human beings, you know,
the ones who were out there givenif they're all for me, for
you, for the world, andspeaking of world. In the world of
music, there are a few artiststhat possessed the ability to transcend genres and
touch souls like Peg Luke. She'san Emmy and Grammy nominated artist. Pigs
(04:10):
fluked melodies and her vocals have gracedsome of the world's most prestigious stage.
Her music, a beautiful blend ofclassical and spiritual compositions, resonates with deep
emotions than vibrant energy. Despite facingpersonal health challenges, Peg continues to inspire
and uplift with her music and bodyand resilience and hope. Her latest projects,
(04:31):
including the holiday album Sleep Baby Jesus, showcase her exceptional talent and dedication
to her craft. We'll call thisepisode music Hells and with that, let's
welcome peg Luke to the show.Hello, Hello, Hello, welcome,
Hello, hello, Hello. Howare you? I'm doing great? How
(04:53):
are you well? I'm here andI like your Harry Potter esque music gets
me in the twinkle mood. Yeah, that's the point. It's the magic
brewing here. So there we go. Yeah again, Welcome to the show.
(05:16):
And as we look towards you know, the rest of twenty twenty four,
I can't believe it's here already.You know, it'll be twenty twenty
five before you know it. ButI know that many are reflecting on their
goals and dreams, or even creatingnew goals and dreams. But throughout your
career, especially in facing personal challenges, what has been the most valuable piece
(05:38):
of advice or insights from your experiencethat has really helped you stay true to
your artistic vision and mission, tostay true to yourself, to reflect inward.
And I know it's easy to especiallyin this world of big conglomerates to
say I need to do this kindof music to be successful, to get
(06:00):
over the humph, to get therecord deal, to get the billion views,
the million likes. But for meat this point in my life,
it's more about staying true to whatmy higher power is telling me. And
that higher power is God for me. And you know, God is seen
(06:24):
individually but yet universally. And Ifeel a big because of God's message to
me. Absolutely, what was God'smessage to you? God's message to me
(06:46):
changes and I have to listen alot, but it's don't give up,
keep working and let people know howmuch they are loved. You know,
they're very simple messages. It's amessage of hope and resilience in this world
(07:13):
that can be extremely dark and seemsto get darker by the moment with all
the war, corruption, violence, illness, you know, you name it,
it's out there. But there's somethingbeautiful and pure and full of light
(07:33):
and hope that is always there. And I feel like each one of us
has our higher power with us allthe time, whether it's inside of us,
around us, whether it's with thepeople that we know and love,
whether it's strangers that we've never seenbefore, whether it's with animals, whether
(07:57):
it's with events, happenings. Thebeauty I always say this, it's the
beauty of the unknown and the powerof the unknown, which is actually more
powerful than what we see, whatwe can touch, what we can feel.
And I've got to say something.I'm going off a little bit here
(08:20):
already, but I was watching aYouTube video early or about this gentleman that
had a near death experience an NMEand was clinically dead for twenty minutes,
and he came back with the mostamazing thing. And it's so true that
we are spiritual entities, each oneof us, and we just actually have
(08:48):
the physical around us, around thespirit, but we as a person,
as people, we are all spiritual, spiritual human beings, spiritual entities.
He called it just a ball ofspirituality, and I this exciting ball of
(09:13):
spirituality, and if you tap intothat, that's where the true magic lies.
And I try to do that withhow I live my life. Now.
I love that something you said, yeah, something you said earlier about
letting people know that they are loved, and I slowly believe this. I
(09:35):
think you know, one of thecommandments that you love your neighbor as yourself.
I think if we spent more timedoing that, everything else will fall
into play, especially with evil andcorruption, and you know everything else is
around the world, you know. But my question to you is how do
you translate that. I know wecould do that in the physical, you
(09:56):
could do that with words, youknow, touch time, things like that,
But how do you translate that intomusic to let people know that their
love do music? Well? Youknow, I believe music touches a soul
and I don't I can't think ofanything else better, better medium that can
(10:20):
touch the soul than music. Andyou know, if a soul is open
to it and lets it come in, I think it can do miraculous things.
I think, you know, musicis very healing, and music can
transcend difficulties and barriers and divisions, and I think it's been shown in the
(10:48):
past to do such things. ButI think as individuals, I think we
should be careful not to say sinceI don't recognize this music, I don't
want to listen to it, Idon't want to listen to the message.
My feeling is my music is differentbecause my background is different. And so
(11:09):
what I try to do is Icome into people's hearts, maybe when they're
least expecting it, and here itis, here's the message. And in
December I crossed over one million Spotifystreams with people from all over the world
(11:30):
that wanted to listen to my message, to my music. And then also
with an age group that is faraway from where I would think that I
would touch. I'm sixty three yearsold and the biggest age group that listens
to my music is twenty one tothirty four. So go figure that one
(11:52):
out. It it makes no senseas a testament to the power of your
music. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. And we just keep we
just keep growing, and we justkeep touching more and more. And you
(12:13):
know, it doesn't have to besomething that you listen to all the time.
Maybe it's you know, you listento it once and you're like,
oh, that really touched me.You know, that's really cool. That
That's all I want to do.I want to touch people with the words
that they are loved, that lifeis indeed beautiful, they matter, Every
(12:33):
person matters. You know, welive in such a throwaway society and we've
got to stop doing it because everyone of us has a story to tell.
I have my story, you haveyour story. The people listening right
now have their stories. We're allconnected. We have to understand that we're
(12:54):
all connected, and music helps thathappen. So your journey and music began
at a very young age. Howdid it starting with the piano and flute,
shape your musical path and influence yourstyle. Well, when I was
seven years old, I was writingin the car and I'd already been playing
(13:15):
piano for a couple of years. My older brother and sister were musicians,
so I kind of was like,I want to follow them. You know,
it's the small child syndrome. Grewup in a very wonderful home in
northwest Illinois in a steel town, and had wonderful band instructors. But when
(13:37):
I was in the car, whenI was in seven years old, I
felt a spirit come to me andsay you should play the flute. Now
I have no idea what it was, whether it's angel, whether it was
a spirit of something, but Iwas open to it and I said to
mom, I said, you know, I need to I need to take
some flute lessons, and she's like, okay. I was seven years old,
(14:01):
and from there I never wavered fromthat calling. It was like and
you know, flute wasn't easy forme, neither was piano, but it
filled my soul and it fulfilled me, and I knew that there was a
greater calling. So I just continuedwith it, you know, continued with
(14:22):
it in college realm, and hadvery supportive parents, and it just it
just continued to get bigger. Thecollege just continued to get bigger, and
was after college, I did somenine to five jobs and then ended up
(14:43):
starting to teach a lot and finallygot into the college teaching realm and taught
for decades in universities and privately fluteand piano. And then I had this
(15:03):
weird thing happened that said do youwant to perform at Carnegie Hall? And
I said, well, yeah,okay, I guess I guess I'll try
for it. You know, itnever hurts to try. And I heard
back and they said, we wouldreally like you to play under our management
at Carnegie Hall. And eleven timeslater, I was still performing at Carnegie
(15:30):
Hall. My last concert was soldout. We were turning people away.
People are around the block. Andyou know, I wasn't a big artist
or a film not a huge artist. But I think it's a story that
you tell, and I think intheir hearts, and so if you give
(15:52):
them that, they'll come back, they'll come back for more. And so
yeah, Carnegie Hall was a greatrun. And then after Carnegie I lost
both my parents and I was reallyreally sad and distraught. And this producer
had come to me and said,I really would like to work with you
(16:17):
and do a flute project. AndI said, you know, I don't
think I can do that right now. And I said, how about if
I write a Christian project encompassing thePsalms and call it Psalm Space and dedicate
it to my parents, Because man, I'm hurting. I mean I'm really
feeling loss. You know this hurts. I have this empty void inside of
(16:40):
me and I can't fill it.And so I wrote this project called Palm
Space, and I got a distributiondeal, and then I headed off into
the Christian music world and I haven'tlooked back yet. So I haven't abandoned
my classical roots. I still doclassical music and I still want to I'm
going to hopefully be doing a bigflu project at the end of twenty twenty
(17:03):
four. I can't tell you whatit is because top secret, because I
don't want other people to take themojo, if you know what I mean.
So I'm keeping that under wraps. But I'm working on that. And
then I've got more singles and morealbums and you know, bigger plans.
I mean, things I don't Icould never have seen this happening. I
(17:29):
mean, I couldn't have seen myselftalking to you tonight. I couldn't have
seen myself telling my message. Althoughwhen I got on stages at Carnegie Hall
and I talked to people like tolisten to me. You know. I
always like to make jokes and soyou know, I would get on stage
(17:51):
and I would say a joker too, and everybody would laugh and they think,
wow, this is awesome, youknow. And I never wanted to
be too serious on stine Age andmy music, Christian wise becomes very reflective
and it goes deeper. So maybeI use the joy, the light,
(18:17):
the humor as the door in andthen once the door has opened, then
I say, hey, I've gotsomething to tell you, and then I
capture people's attention and then the restis history and we just go on.
So here we are absolutely can youtell us more about some space. We
(18:41):
know that it's a project influenced byyour parents' memory, but could you tell
us more about this project and whatit encompasses. Out of the project encompassed
a lot of songs and wires.I did arrangements of the Lord's Prayer of
(19:03):
I wanted to say the beattitudes, but not the beatitudes of some of my
favorite psalms, like Psalm twenty threethe Lord is my shepherd. I shall
not want Psalm one hundred, whichwas my mom's favorite, you know,
sing to the Lord, be joyful, be amazing, Psalm twenty seven about
(19:30):
don't fear God is with us.There's nothing you can do that's going to
hurt that you will always God willalways be with you, you will always
be protected, You'll always be lovedPsalm sixty three. I can't remember the
premise. I'm kind of going offthe top of my head because I haven't
(19:52):
thought about Psalm's face for a while. But it's basically a very meditative I
had a lot of people that havelost loved ones and or have loved ones
that are in hospice care that haveturned to Psalm Space and have come to
me and said, hey, yousaved me. This, This saved me.
(20:15):
This really, this really made adifference. So I've been really happy
to have thousands of people that havereally really you know, you can look
it up. It's still out there. PSALM space is still out there and
www dot P s A L M, S P A c E dot com
(20:37):
if you want to know more aboutit, It's out there. So if
you're feeling like you could really usesome serious grief management without having to go
to a therapist right away, Iwould highly recommend it. Absolutely all right,
(20:57):
and you're stuck about your Christmas projecttwenty twenty three Christmas collection has been
well received or congratulations on that? What inspired you to create a holiday album?
I always had Christmas music that Iwas arranging or composing, and it
(21:18):
just there's a group of it.And I just said, oh, I've
got this little group that I madeduring COVID and I recorded from my basement
downstairs or remote recorded it, andI said, why don't I just put
this together and use one of thetunes that I wrote, sleep Baby Jesus,
and put it out there and seewhat happens. And Yeah, over
(21:41):
three hundred and thirty thousand streams ofSpotify later. Here we are, and
I'm planning on putting out another Christmasmini project next year, which will encompass
my idea of my Silent Night Mary. Did you know Wexford, Carol Greensleep,
Little Drummer Boy, Gabriel's Message. They're just very small projects for like
(22:03):
five songs, so people, youknow, if they've got thirty minutes,
they can listen to it. It'snot that big a deal, you know.
So yeah, that's fun. Yeah, sounded fun. That's incredible.
Among your singles, which one doyou feel most personally connected to, Well,
(22:26):
God will be My piece will alwaysbe special. It was the first
piece that I wrote at the startof the COVID pandemic. I did it
remotely and with a producer out inLa Lucas Sader, and my stepdaughter Jenny
Luke sang vocals on it with me, and it basically was talking about where
(22:52):
do you go for comfort when youdon't know what's going to happen? You
know, let's be serious, howmany of us what's going to happen at
the beginning of the pandemic? AndI was like, what's going on?
You know? And so I wrotethis piece and it has really it's kind
of blown up. It's been amazing. I have this other piece that I
(23:15):
wrote called I Am Home Lord, dedicated to all the migrants and the refugees
around the world. With all thewars going on. I've had a lot
of Ukrainian people, actually, youknow, come on and take in my
music and say how much it meansto them. I Am Home Lord basically
(23:38):
says, you know, God iswith you everywhere you are, doesn't matter,
if you have a place to sleep, doesn't matter, if you don't
know if you're going to live tomorrow. God is always with you. It's
a really really powerful message. Andthen I think one of the most powerful
songs that I've just written. It'smy latest composition. It's not even out
(24:03):
yet. It's called God on aBumper Sticker. It's about It's a story
that I wrote. It's fictional thatsays about somebody driving all night thinking they're
worthless. They don't pay attention tothe road. The light turns red,
they crash and they die, andthe refrain is all I see is God
(24:26):
on a bumper sticker, and thebumper sticker says, I will take away
your sin. I will make younew again, I will always be around.
I will never let you down. You belong to me. And then
the person sees all the doctors workingon them, the nurses and can't believe
it's themselves down there looking from above. And then all of a sudden,
(24:53):
see a great light and here's Godand they say, you are forgiven.
It's not your yet. You needto go back and spread my good news.
And then back to the refrain saying, here's God on a bumper sticker,
and it says, on the codeI wrote, I am forever changed.
I got a second chance. I'llnever doubt or hate what I've been
(25:15):
freely given. It said God ona bumper sticker. God on a bumper
sticker saved me. And it's prettypowerful stuff, because you know, when
we think we're worthless, you know, maybe that's the time when when we're
at our lowest, is the timewe're most open to change. I think
(25:40):
I think so too, Peg,I think so too. So you have
a flute project in the works. Can you give us a sneak peek into
what fans can expect from this upcomingproject or release? Oh boy, Well,
it has to do with the classicalcomposer and I'm going to change the
gen of that classical composure a littlebit and rearranked it and make it cool
(26:07):
and funked out. How about that. I can't tell I can't tell you
the name of the composer. Ican't tell you what I'm working on,
but I can tell you that it'sgonna be super cool. It's gonna be
I'm gonna make it so people candownload it and play it. You know,
if they like the music, theycan play it themselves. And yeah,
(26:29):
it's gonna be awesome. Sounds likeit your music all think, Oh
good, I'm sorry. Oh I'mlooking forward to it. Is there at
least date for it? No,it's gonna be at least a year,
Okay. So I have singles. These are my single slated for twenty twenty
(26:52):
four, The Church's One Foundation,Softly Tenderly Benediction got on a bumper sticker.
Now I lay me down to sleep. Here a Laison Moonlight sonata variations,
and I love to tell the story. The tune that I wrote for
my mom's funeral, the Kohen Allelujah. That's just a few of the things.
(27:15):
So get ready, here comes twentytwenty four. Come check me out
all right, all right, soundsthis sighting, sounds this sighting. So
your music, Alton caves. Yeah, your music, Alton coves a message
of divine connection. I know we'vewe've been talking off and on about you
(27:37):
know, the state of our world. How do you hope your music impassed
the spiritual journey of your listeners.Well, everybody has this divine the divine
spirit in him. I mean, nobody is excluded. It's not like,
oh yeah, you have it.Oh no you don't. Oh yeah you
(28:00):
have it. Oh no you don't, because that's what you hear so much
in the artists world, like ohyeah, you're good enough. Oh yeah
you're not. Oh yeah you're goodenough. You know, I want to
tell you nobody's excluded from this.Everybody has this so knowing that you're worth
something, knowing that you're loved, knowing that we can get through this together.
(28:22):
I hope as a uniting space inthis year of twenty twenty four.
You know, I live in theStates, and I never want to live
in fear, but I do wonderwhat's going to happen, and I do
pray a lot, and I dohope my music hopefully inspires some peace,
(28:45):
some beauty. Take hate out ofthe picture, Take division out of the
picture. Take you're different than me, and so because you're different than me,
I don't want to understand you.And for that and I fear you,
and I don't want you to bearound. I want to take that
out of the picture. I wantto take the picture that we are all
(29:07):
in this together, and we havea duty to love each other, not
to kill one another. We havea duty to be on this planet together
in harmony. And every one ofus has that power to make the world
better. And I do it throughmy music and through my messages, God's
(29:32):
messages, but we all have thatpower absolutely. All right, all right,
we are getting ready to jump intoyour single sleep Baby Jesus, and
then we'll be right back to putpig Luke in our traditional hot seat where
she can perform for us if shewants to. She could sing, rap,
poetry, spoken word, play aninstrument, tell a joke, tell
(29:53):
a story from her life, orjust give some advice the choices hers or
she had to do anything at all, that's cool too, But for right
now, guys, see what itis, Sleep Baby Jesus, will be

(34:12):

I can't rap. I can't rapworth anything, So I hope everyone can
laugh at me, but also listento the words that I'm going to tell
you. So this is going tobe my rap on My God will be
my piece. Are you ready? We are? I'm not sure? I
(34:36):

for you, Pig looking ahead, are there any new genres or musical styles
that you're interested in exploring your futureprojects. Yeah, I would love to
(36:06):
delve into a little bit of gospel, because I'm not really gospel, even
though I've been tried to be putinto that genre when i first started out.
But I'm not really gospel. ButI'd love to delve a little bit
in the gospel blues field because Ilike to write a mean blues song.
(36:27):
I love jazz. Jazz is awesome, cool, and I would not be
opposed to pop as you know, reggae or rap or You're probably not gonna
