be Jake the Snake Roberts, and it is so good

to have you back on the show, Jake. I had
a chance to watch the resurrection of Jake the Snake
Roberts last weekend, and I enjoyed it so much. I
did a thirty minute review of it for my VIP
members on Saturday night. Talking about it, you had I'm
gonna do a little bit of talking here at first.
Then I'll for sure give you plenty of time, but
I want to tell you that you've been on the

show during the time that you were a deep since
you've moved in with DDP through that whole process, and
it was so cool to put like know what the
kitchen looks like, you know what I mean?

Like know what the crib like?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
It put pictures to the words that you were so
eloquently spoken on this show and at your magnificent and
I've said this at the time magnificent Hall of Fame
speech at WrestleMania a year and a half ago too.
So it's great to have you on the show. My
first question for you is how does it feel to
know that this story that you've been for three the

(03:32):
better part of three years. I think very proud of
this chapter in your life with you know, a few
things here and there that are covered in the documentary,
a few moments here and there. How how excited are
you that you get to share this story in this
journey with so many people.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I don't know, if right? I mean there's still to watch, Yeah,
I mean I don't like seeing me when I like that.
You know, maybe some people could get just think it
with a green of salt, but I can't. Man, it's
still stings and it still feels flunky. The only reason

(04:09):
I'm holding on is just for the fact another's going
to help so many people, you know, And that's that's
what this whole thing is supposed to be about anyway,
you know, as far as I'm concert, I mean, I
don't know why you go ahead and glorify a drunk
and a junkie, but okay, you know, uh, if you

(04:29):
are going to give free tickets and away here or
red a new car, I'm all up for it. But
you know, it's to help other people, you know, And
I think that it does that, you know, I think
it gets people's attention. I think it wakes up people
to say, hey, you know, there is a buddy in
mind that I should have helped way back when, where
I just wrote them all. And that's a real big

(04:50):
saying there, because that was the message about, you know,
not giving up on somebody, you know. I mean, it
just put me in aside. I'd be dead right now,
you know. So whose responsibility is it? Well, I feel
like it's the responsibility that people would know them, you know.
And whether it be a family member, not to be

(05:11):
a family member. Man, it could be a friend, you know.
I mean, we've all been out with that guy that
wounds up getting too much hit him and embarrassing us
and embarrassing him. If he was sober enough to remember,
maybe it would. But we all know that guy. Yeah,
and those guys or girls you know, one of mine.

(05:33):
And if you're just too busy to put it on
your schedule ever, really sucks because that means you're too
busy to help another human being, and that means you're
no good person. And I think that's for most of us.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Fall and Jake, I think you know you pointed it out.
I mean, it's got to be I assume you've watched
the finished product of the documentary.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Yeah, I have a couple of times, couple of.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Times, and I think it is we're saying because when
I say are you excited? You know you're right. Maybe
that's the wrong choice of words.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
This is not.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
You put yourself out there, and you put yourself out
there in a way that I've never done publicly. So
I don't know what that would be like to have
some of my lowest moments.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
I don't think many people have. I really don't think
many people have. Many help your parts to show it off,
you know, And I did that many times, even when
I was masked. Yeah, but I've always done that, even
before this movie. Back when I was WWE in ninety
six and ninety three, I talked about my drug problems.
I talked about my alcoholism. I didn't hidey. You know

(06:36):
this what's so amazing is that, you know, they just
dug up this ancient wrestler evidently four thousand years old,
over and scary or something, and they found out that
he was actually the first rusher to do drugs, not me.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
You know the thing that I mean, I've got a
lot of questions and topics I'll talk about, but one
thing you did in that documentary, and it was an
emotion roller coaster. I mean, I wouldn't say it was exhausting,
because you know, Diamond Dallas paid well, Diamondallas page can
be exhausting sometimes, but in a good way, right, Jake, Yes,
but yes, but I tell you what, you cracked me up.

(07:14):
And there were a couple of times, uh that you
that I think when people watch this documentary if they
haven't yet. And by the way, Jakethsnakemovie dot com is

Now don't hang up now, Jake, now that I plugged it, No,
I'm kidding. You cracked me up in the documentary. One

time when you offered urine, a jar of urine, a
couple of year entire gass as soon as they arrived.
I thought that was just hilarious. People can see the
context of it. It's funny. And the other time was
when you stepped on the scale and you did not
like the number, so you.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Got an when you wait yourself, but the way you
jumped off of it when you weigh yourself again and
it went up, that was great.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
So there's this, there's levity in this and.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah you can't laughing a drug. Yes, we're always doing
stupid craft. So there we go.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yep, DDP, we're talking to Jake right now in the air,
so we're good. I gotta hang up on you because
I don't want to make Jake Wade anymore. DDP just
called it myself and to make sure things are good.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Jake the uh.

One thing in the documentary. And and it's funny because
people's reaction, of those who have seen this so far
is they were bracing for this to possibly feel more
like a story about how much d DP helped.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
You, and it was.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
But part of what I kind of wanted to know
more of is what do you attribute specifically that DDP
did that helped you have so many good days in
a row and get to the point where ww as
Chris Jericho said, wwe trusted you to be there at
the Hall of Fame sober and give that kickass speech.

What what specifically did DDP do that so many others
and and treatment centers weren't able to.

Couldn't do.

You know, when you go a treatment center, just get
real real here for a moment center. They take you
in there and you're in the cocoon. You keep all
the bad guys who wait from you, you know, and
you gotta do this class, do that class, still your
guts here sort of time, and maybe you didn't, maybe
you're lied. So what? And then after four months they

(10:15):
tap you on the back and tell you if I
believe Yeah, okay, Now I go outside and guess he's
waiting on me. Ex wife number one? Oh there's ex
wife number two. Oh there's a new collector. Oh my god,
there's my guy. Oh's house I live in? Oh shit,
Oh representsing my car? Come on, just give me a break.

(10:37):
All this stuff is waiting on you. Nobody gets you
ready for that. Nobody steps up and takes care of
that bill. You know, so immediately after you leave that cocoon,
they'll feel good and smile and just one day, one time,
won't step a time. You'll come on you're phone right

(10:59):
back in the crow up and everybody's you know, they're
kind of waiting to see what you do, and what
do you do. You get frustrated, you don't know what
to do. You run with yourself and the next thing
you know, you've been not back to what you used
to do because there is no team there waiting on you.

(11:20):
You know, there there is somebody who can reach out
to you and say, dude, look, man, I got a
four months thing over the next wives, I'm gonna teaching
you jail. You know what with Dallas, He says, Look, dude,
come stay with me. I'm gonna feature the best stuff
on the planet. Well that's that's that's a no brainer,

(11:41):
and I'm going to help you take care of your
obligations until we get this same rocket and rolling right.
That was real, Big, That was real, Big. I saw
no pressure from the outside. You see even before where
I've been to rehab, you're still getting the mail man,
and you still realize if you should live your house,
leave your car, you're can go to jail whatever. So

(12:03):
you won't go that damn place because they don't care. Well,
that was he cared enough to step in here and say, okay, dude,
until you get on your feet, I'm basically to your bank,
you know. And and then he teaches He taught me
how to control money because I never had to call
money before in my life. I never had to set

(12:26):
up a plan. My plan was to get through the tomorrow,
you know. And he taught me these things. So I
learned a new way of living, such as pay your taxes,
which I had not done for like fourteen years. You know,
I just sit, screw it, man, I want to die.
And all of a sudden, I'm actually doing the right thing,

(12:51):
learning to do the right thing. There's a book for
you to respect your obligations, get in line. That's a
different way of life. And I had to be led
for it first, probably for the first year and now.
And you know, because because my my thing was, man,

(13:13):
I got a little money in my pocket, I don't
want to go buy somebody something nice because it helped me,
you know, and he's like, dude, you got to save
that money because you got this bill coming up next week.
You can't just do that. But see, that was part
of me in my instant ratification thing that I did,
you know, make me feel good. Now, you know, don't

(13:36):
wait for the big pop. But there is a big
pop down the road, man. And so it's basically teaching
me how to live. I didn't know how, you know,
when I was on the road, man was just step
in another another plate for a graph. When I was
on the road, my ex wives took care of all
the money, took care of the bills, took care of
all that stuff. I haven't beat a bill all my life.

(13:57):
I just made the money. I just made the money.
I've never held on the money in my life. I
do it on the billfold. I still don't. My daughter
takes care of the money. Because Jake Roberts, Uh, not
the best guy in the world to to save money,
not the best kind in the world to be uh.

(14:20):
On top of that, because I get I get pulled
around so many different directions, you know, and there's some
of us people in the world that my job should
be doing my job entertaining, uh, taking care of my
children and my grandchildren. That should be my job. That's it.

(14:41):
There's a lot there, you know, and uh give that,
Give that thing to somebody else to take care of
my taxes and do my taxes because I'm not good
at that. You know, you got to learn what you're
good at and what's not. Thanks John, good at Give
them somebody knows what the hell they're doing. Not just
people run to the table and say that because that's wrong.

(15:03):
That's wrong, And that's what I did before. You all
look good on the outside, but once you doug in
and they'll bit you. Oh ship, he's got some problems here,
you know, and he can't live like that. Man's learning
out to be right, to do the right thing. He
diet pretdamn good at him. Yeah, yeah, I feel good

(15:28):
about myself. I'm all my taxes and all my obligations, man,
and I'm saving money. I'm happy. I like the guy
in the mirror. Which was the biggest thing for me,
was liking that guy in the mirror because I hated him.
You know, I was so ashamed. You know, all my

(15:48):
problems were shame based, you know, and because here's some
news for your people, drug synatics. I don't like being
a snatic too. We really think it sucks, but we
don't know how to get out of it. We don't
know how to get out of it because I wore
up as a very small circle, you know, and uh, hey,

(16:10):
I'm there. I've never I've been to several jails and
several rehabits. I've never met anybody in either place and said,
you know what, Jake, when I was young and I
wanted to grow up and become a drummer and jummy,
you know you didn't know, you didn't, but that's what
happens to us. So watching this movie help people go

(16:30):
away with a sincere feelings with the with their brother
in life and uh maybe tease of something else to
deal with other people, you know, and uh enlighten them
on what addictions about it and a pain of addictions
because it didn't destroy just one man and destroys us family,

(16:54):
you know, and everything around that family and destroys the workplace.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
It really really is.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
I think one of the one one of the real
touching things on the documentary too, and you brought up
your daughter is is that your kids, you know, talked
about feeling like they were communicating as adults with their
dad consistently for the first time maybe in their adult lives,
and that had to be absolutely such a rewarding thing.

(17:25):
And that's has that continued in some former fashion and
and that just has to be in real.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Yeah man, yeah, yeah, we're my family hooking up real
sleeately right now.

Speaker 6 (17:35):
Man.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
We have plans, you know, for not only for today,
but we have plans for next year, two years. We
got our moments already set up. Those those are kids
with a stone and nobody messed up. I know, work
somebodace else some of the time, but I ain't messing
with just right here. So I've changed that part of
my life family number one. Yeah, were watching my addiction

(17:56):
number one family right there, and uh, you know, and
that's not like you, fami, because I found that once
real life, man, as your family, that's the thing that
you fall back on when you need to be loved,
and if you're not falling back on, if you're not
really having much good life.

Man.

Because to have my siblings embrace me again and invite
me into their home, to have them want me to
hold the grandkids and play with them, to have mine
at the time she was nineteen, my fourth child sit

(18:35):
in my lap because that's something I never allowed. I
never allowed for my daughter to sit in my lap
because I was afraid that that evil gene that my
father carried my somehow get into my body and I
would wind up touching my child. And I never wanted
that at all, you know, And that was part of

(18:57):
the reason I land from a relationship shift, because wind
up with my father, you know, touching young girls, and
I'm gonna die. Yeah, I really die.

to you and so happy with the progress you're making
with your life and just sounding It's very inspiring and
I'm happy for you. I appreciate that. Jake. Can I
just start You made it very the first time I
ever saw you that I remember you made a big mark,
which was wrestle Mendia too, you versus George Wells. I
was talking Gray there, and I just remember the way

that match was and the way that match played out.
It was amazing, just the heal persona and everything you did,
especially at the end of that match when you put
Damien on him and he had to hold around his mouth. Yeah,
Jake was amazing. But can I ask a question about
a couple of questions about your career? Go ahead and

hope and I remember, Jake, I know you the first
The first one is, I know in the late eighties,
I'll been like eighty six, there was talk about you
feuding Holden and I know that there's been a story
that you had DDT them on the set of the
stake pitch. Yeah, and you tell me a little more
insight on that. Well, what happened was is that people
started chanting DDT instead of Hall called coke, you know.

(22:15):
And I remember the horror that it was because as
soon as they stood the km B t dt events
to me and it never happened, never happened, And he
just turned and walked away. And I'm thinking of I said, well,
why is it a bad pain? Well, in the real world, yeah,

(22:36):
something called merchandise me and that's when the money's made.
It's not how many people are in arena. I know,
it seems ridiculous because the truth, how many people are there,
they don't make you care lest it's the merchandise they
sail that makes page all the bailey and when the fact,
I mean we wrestled twice and it was the same.

(22:58):
The same thing came back at us. Uh. We were
impovering Shode Island named Montreal and both of them sold
out from the way people did not matter the fact
they were killing Jacob Snake and d d T that
mixed program. So thank you fans for correcting me. Million.

Yeah, just one other follow up and it's okay. We
you did some great talking well when Steve Austin last
week talking World Class Championship, Pressley and I just want
to know, Jake, I know you worked with Chris Avenues
and Gene Vernandez down in taking commies. Yeah, right, in
that time in World Class and all that you did
in World Class, it was disgusting for me. You know

what was going on there, man, was just not right.
You know they were they were taking advantage of three
kids and did not really know which way was up.
You know, very boys. They were not great business. God
bless him man. You know Carrie was such a sweetheart
and didn't have a mean bar in his body. Man,
But you know, people take advantage of people, man, and

everybody that went through there did it. I was glad
to say that I didn't stay there long. I couldn't
take it because it was just that depressing from me
to watch those kids get manipulated like that and it's
just wrong and it was just wrong. You know they're
watching them one one day after another. Man, it was
just disgusted. And I will believe it at that. Because

I don't want a name name. I totally understand Jay Kick.
I really appreciate your time. Just like I said, I've
been enjoying your career since the mid eighties. And uh waite,
thanks for giving me the opportunity with Jake and Kayak's

we're Dallas for two days, in Campa, then Philly, then

Young in New York, in Manhattan, he's got to go
to Baltimore and over that period, we got to wake
up in the morning and do PR and get those
you know, three or four PR things, then chill out,
you know, and then go to the Q and A
and then drive you know, an hour, two hours, three
hours to the next town. It's like wrestl him again.

And you know, I want to choke him out because
he actually had three bookings where he was booked the
wrestle and with his hip shot, he still did it. Yeah,
so I know he's a monster pain and uh so
sorry I had to check out too, but that was
only because he did that spot. So hey, so we

You tell me, He said, you can put DDP yoga

in there and a lot of people will see it.
And you know, like you got You've already proven that
you've got. You get hundreds of thousands of hits because
I used to have wired you workout. Not common there,
he said, but it'll never go really viral. And he said,

I said, this is so strong, dude, I go, let's
inspire people. And if you look on it, there's a
part where it says he talks about a yogi. You know,
there was only one yogi. And I don't consider myself

And he said, I want you to think about this,

they put on, it a lack of, discipline a lack
