In this week’s Interview Classic podcasts, we're jumping back to two interviews.

Ten years ago this week (12-17-2015), PWTorch editor Wade Keller interviewed “Stone Cold” Steve Austin with a great mix of topics including reviewing Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe through a main event wrestler’s lens, the prospects of both Balor and Joe on the main roster, the Roman Reigns angle with Stephanie and Vince on Raw on Monday, how close Reigns is to being a polished top main event act, Kevin Owens’ bodytype, and other current events. Also, who are on Steve Austin’s dream podcast interview subjects list – dead or alive – pro wrestling or otherwise. Some thoughts on Darth Vader and more!

Then, PWTorch columnist Pat McNeill welcomed an All-Star Panel of Kevin Kleinrock from Masked Republic lucha libre and wrestling interviewer Scott Fishman (12-9-2015) to break some news and talk about the news with live calls and emails.

(01:29):
great mix of topics in this interview, including his review
of the Finn Balor Samoa Joe match through a main
event wrestler's lens fascinating here Steve analys a match. Also
the prospects of both Finn Balor and Joe on the
main roster, the Roman reiins angle with Steph McMann and
Vince mcmannon on Raw on Monday, and Austin's thoughts on that.
Austin's thoughts on how close Roban Rains was to being

(01:53):
Austin's thoughts on it and other current events. Also who
We're on Steve Austin's Dream podcast interview subjects list dead

(02:14):
Kleinrock from the Mass Republic. Lucha Libre wrestling and wrestling

and interacted with live callers and email. So let's get
to it. This is a Weaight Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast
UNI of your classic for Saturday, December twentieth, twenty twenty
five Star Wars. I just wanted to get that out

(02:52):
of the way right at the top of the show.
Welcome to the PW Torch Live Cast. I am Wade
Keller and it is Thursday, December seventeen, twenty fifteen. Thanks
for joining me today on your way to or from
seeing Star Wars. And we also have a lot of
non Star Wars things I'd like to talk about, in fact,
pretty much exclusively non Star Wars things, and that is

(03:17):
the NXT Takeover special last night and a big episode
of Monday Night Raw. I talked with Jason Powell of
Progressing dot Net a lot about that earlier this week
on Tuesday and today on Interview Thursday, I will be
joined by Stone Cold Steve Austin. Now, Steve is someone

(03:38):
that I spoke to about the TLC pay per view
on his podcast this week, so we got a lot
of our thoughts out on TLC, but I'm very interested
in hearing what Steve has to say about the follow
up and we'll just kind of look ahead and also

(03:58):
take your questions. Our email ad us four questions for
Steve Austin is PW Torch Live Cast at gmail dot
com and if you want to give us a call
the number six four six seven, nine to eight to eight.
We can talk about Steve Austin's career, his past, big matches,
his thoughts on the industry. If you're probably a listener

(04:20):
to his podcast over at podcast one, the Steve Austin
Show and The Steve Austin Show Unleashed, here's a chance
to talk to him live and uh talk to him
about some things going on uh currently in pro wrestling.
So we're going to bring Steve on board. I want
to get our first commercial break out of the way
so that it's all clear moving forward from there. So

(04:41):
when we come back from hearing from our sponsors, we
will have Steve Austin joining us as a listener of
the PW Torch Live Ate you're thinking of us again,
that's PW Torch dot com. Slash Amazon. They give us
a kickback for mentioning them here on this show. All right,
let's with no further ado, bring Stone Cold, Steve Austin

(05:01):
out of the program. Steve, longtime, no talk, there's been
It's been a while.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
I missed you, Wade.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
How are you doing good? Now? I have to say,
And I know it will seem sort of overbearing given
how much everybody is talking about it, but I need
to know. Have you seen Star Wars yet?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Man, but I saw the trailer for that movie, and
I told my wife that's one movie I don't go
to movies anymore. I went for him to come out
on DVD or on demand. That is one movie I'm
looking forward to seeing. Is it Badass?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I haven't seen it yet. I'm actually probably not going
to see it till Saturday. And so I've got to
somehow disconnect myself completely from social media, Steve, Just so
you felt at home. I thought I would have a
dog barking in the background during our show, like happened
on the Tuesday Show with you earlier this week. I
don't know if you can hear.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Him way that's given confringed, But I had the dog's barking.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
First, yes you did, Yes, you did. All right, well, Steve,
let's uh yeah, the movie looks bad, as their early
reviews spoiler free just sound phenomenal, so I'm very happy
about that. But anyway, back.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
To troll, the one thing about Star Wars before we
move on, it bothered me. Must like the dude that
they got playing Darth Vader. He looks like he's kind
of a skinny guy, and back in the day, the
Dark Vader was a big guy. So I don't know
if it's because you know, they expect Dark Vader to
have a six pack underneath that all that get up
or whatever, but so to me, you know, he looked
a little bit more intimidating or imposing with that larger

(06:28):
than the last figure, coupled with that voice. So nonetheless,
I'm looking forward to saying a new Star Wars lovie.
I just thought they should have maybe put Dark Vader
of peds, jack him up a little bit more. Even
though he's all covered up, he looks more menacing when
he's bigger.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
All right, Well, there there you go, thanks, Steve. Well,
I'll give you my thoughts on it. I haven't seen
enough of Darth to give my opinion to know if
I agree to disagree with you. All right, we'll save
it for next conversation. All right, let's let's just throw
something out there. Vince Russo Jim Ross was on the
show last Thursday, and he said when I plugged that

(07:04):
I'd be on your show reviewing TLC. He said, well,
I'll have Vince Russo on my show reviewing TLC. And
Russo and Ross talked and one converse. One thing that
came up is Kevin Owens. I know you're a fan
of his. You had him on your show. Uh, Vince.
Vince Russo said, ah, he does look like a star,
and and that that's that Kevin Owens. He's been a

(07:24):
critic at Kevin Owens. Kevin Owens today on Twitter said, uh,
and I'm paraphrasing, but the gist of it is right,
I feel better not having Vince Russo on my side.
It doesn't bother him. I'm kind of with Kevin Owens
on this one. So Steve, I bring it up because
you know you you talk about appearance being very important
for like Darth Vader, and and I absolutely agree with

(07:45):
you on that one, that you want to have the
person playing a role look the part, no question about it.
But in pro wrestling, don't you want a wide variety
of body types? To me, pro wrestling gets a lot
less interesting if everybody out there is somewhere in between
Wade Barrett, Randy Orton and Seamus in terms of body type.

(08:07):
You want to have some husky guys like Bray Whatt
or Kevin Owens or Heck mcfoley. I mean, there's all
these different body types out there. Do you think Kevin Owens, though,
is that there's anything holding him back or do you
think promoters should just embrace the way that he looks.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
No, embrace the way that it looks. I love his attitude.
He has that obstinate presence. I think it just hits
a gas pedal of verbally a little bit of his promos.
With that being said, he is a great talker. I
love his work in the ring. I'm a Kevin Owens fan,
and they can keep jacking that guy up, keep pushing him.
But no, I'm a Kevin Owens fan. I love his look.

(08:45):
I'm all about different body types.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Man.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
When everybody out there looks like a bodybuilder, Hey, if
you've got a great body, more power to you man,
because that's obviously a plus, But not all the body
guys can work like a Kevin Owens. The dude's got
a dynamic move set. So yeah, whatever Vince Russo's opinion
is is what it is, and he's entitled to it,
just like we all are. But nonetheless, I'm a guy

(09:07):
who's been at the top, and I like what I
see in Kevin Owins. I don't give a damn if
he's got a six pack or not. Every now and then,
hit the hit the gas, but hit the gas pedal
a little bit on the promos, make it make a
point a little bit faster. And that's the only critique
I would have as far as Kevin Owens goes. But
I love everything about that kid. And I had a
hard time putting this into the right phrase. I don't

(09:28):
want to jump subjects on your way. But when I
was talking about what Roman Reigns needed was you know
he said sometimes he kind of plods along. I meant
to say, just be more aggressive in your actions. So
that was what I was trying to get out but
could not get out on my show, was Roman needs
to be and a little bit more in attack mode
with a little bit more sense of urgency and aggressive. Anyway,

(09:50):
back to your thing about Kevin Owens, I love that kid.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah. No, actually I'll say about the Romans thing. I
was going to say a sense of urgency, and you
said it, you know, while you were talking. That was
kind of the phrase that I think on occasion, and
it's like you're saying, with Kevin Owens, hit the gas
pedal on promo. Sometimes it's when you do it when
it counts that it really jumps out, you know that
it works.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah, because sometimes right now he's a little too static
on his promos, I mean just because of the pacing
and sometimes when you're really pissed off, like over Hem
says that with that one word who was talking to
Jojo backstage. But for the most part lately his promos
have kind of just been that steady cadence And you've
got to understand, you know, sometimes when you're trying to
rope people in changing speeds, changing up, Caden says, if

(10:32):
you ever listen to a good talk or a good
speaker or a good singer, just sometimes the way they
phrase things will really rope you in and draw you
to them and sometimes even repel you. Depending on what
you're trying to do with that promo. So I think
that's the only thing that's missing in his whole act.
I don't give a name for the kids out there
wearing a long shorts and the KO shirt. I like
that guy, and I think he's money.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
I'm with you, Steve, one hundred percent. The follow up
to TLC, I want to make sure we have time
for We got some good email questions too. I want
to encourage people to keep sending him in and I'll
weave them into the conversation for sure. P W Torch
Live cast at gmail dot com. The follow up on Monday,
Roman Reigns captures the WWE World Heavyweight Title and he

(11:15):
went through Triple HATLC, which we talked about on your
show on Tuesday, and he went through well, I wouldn't
say he went through Vince McMahon. Vince mcman kicked him
in the nuts. I wouldn't say he went through Stephanie.
He took about eight stiff slaps that seemed like he
might have had a headache the next day from them.
Stephanie threw some pretty stiff ones there. But nevertheless, in
the end, it was a build up for Roman getting
a pop for giving Vince McMahon seventy years old, the

(11:39):
Chairman a Superman punch and Boyd Vince sellbatt Steve, what
did you think of the follow up? That was a
big part of our conversation on TLC is the key
is the follow up? They got momentum coming out of Sunday.
How do you grade the follow up? Mixed bag? A plus?
Where does it fall well?

Speaker 2 (11:59):
When you would? I were sending text messages. I saw
the opening segment and I thought that was you know,
it was okay. And then they showed the replay of
the Stephanie slaps, which I love because Stephanie just like
my working punches. She's known Filando's slap said and she
had to or you just seen right through everything. And
so man Roman's face was red. He was almost tearing

(12:21):
up because the slap does hurt. So Stephanie was evil,
she did her part. Then the probos events was okay,
and then Roman needs to be a little uh. He's
got to tone down those smirks a little bit. I
mean he he overacts on those smirks, so he's got
to back off a little bit on the facials when
he's being talked down to and just kind of a

(12:42):
little cocky, crappy and grin a little bit, but he
kind of overplays that. I missed where he actually got
the belt because I had a lot of things going
on over here at the ranch. But uh uh, how
did how did? How did the crowd respond?

Speaker 1 (12:59):
They it was Philadelphia and they did not reject him,
you know, I mean, he got when he came out,
he got some cheers. It wasn't like a whelming blue
booze the crowd. I would say that they received him
on raw for sure, better than the night before, which
is an accomplishment given it was Philly on Monday in
Boston on Sunday. I think Philly typically would be harder

(13:21):
on him, and then by the end of the night
it was celebrating. They they were cheering, but it was
it was It was a couple steps forward for sure,
but it wasn't like a superstar response. But again, I
think they're laying the foundation and moving in the right direction,
but there's still some work to do. That's kind of
the way I feel big success.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
There's going to be a lot of work to do
on the back end. Yeah, but I thought you said, well,
we're describing some matches the other day, you said the
word clunky. I thought the promo with Ves was a
little clunky. I thought when he came out there to
set a ringside and just by time and make Roman sweat,
I thought that was kind of, you know, I don't know,
a little forced, and then just to grant the championship match,

(14:02):
bam right out of blue. But if he doesn't win,
then he's going to be fired. So you really saw
the outcome happen right there because of the way the
promo was. But so anyway, I didn't see the execution,
I didn't see the follow up. I didn't see the reaction.
But now with him being the champion, it's going to
be remained to be seen. You know how they booked
this guy again. You know, you're talking about a guy

(14:25):
who at this point his work has really improved, but
he's got to be more aggressive. He's got to have
a sense of urgency. Now you know, he's defending that belt,
not chasing it and more. I tell you what, when
you're he's still pretty green, I think we can be
quite frank in that regard, especially with respect to holding
a championship belt. So, man, he's really got some pressure

(14:46):
on him with the fact that he now is the
champion and he is there right now their number one guy.

You know, when we look at the lineup of heels, uh,
there's not a lot of heel opponents for Roman reigns
lined up, And I thought that worked against Sting. When
Sting back in ninety became in WA World Heavyweight Champion,
he they didn't have a good run. They didn't have

(15:39):
They had some good heels on the roster, but they
didn't have them ready. You know, they weren't hot, they
weren't Oh god, how's Sting gonna get through this guy.
I want to see Sting take this guy out. I
sort of feel that way now with Roman, that they
haven't set him up with heels, and since the crowd
doesn't love Roman reigns. Across the board, I mean, there's
pockets of fans like that, that guy who held the ups,

(16:00):
and there's a guy whold up beside. A few weeks ago,
steven I mentioned it that said our wives here here
to see Roman reigns, and then in smaller print it said,
and we can't understand why. And so that's kind of
the Roman challenge. Is it smart or is it? I
mean to put Roman in there either against Brock Lesner
or John Cena after he finishes up with Triple H

(16:21):
and I don't know the order they're going in, but
I'm thinking perhaps Roman against Hunter at the Rumbo and
then because Hunter's not gonna win the Rumble and I
don't think Roman's gonna drop the belt, so you have
to have them the Rumble winner, either Sena or Lesnar
to face Roman at WrestleMania. At least that seems to
cover eighty five percent of the bases that I can
think of. Is that sabotaging Roman a little bit by

(16:43):
putting him in a big match at Mania against two
guys Lesner who's megapopular and Sena, who has a similar
fan base as Roman, and that the women and the
kids maybe like them, but the guys don't.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Well, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter
who you put him with. He's got to shine and
he's got to do his half of the match, and uh,
you know, you can book him with anybody, but at
the end of the day, now, man, I mean, you've
got to put your big board trunks on going there
and and have a badass match. You know, wanting to
be the top guy is a goal that everybody should have,

(17:19):
and then wanting to have that championship melt is is
something everybody want to aspire to. All of a sudden,
when you become that top guy or when you get
that belt, hey man, let's put up a shut up.
So you know, I think if it's always good to
have a goal, but all of a sudden, when you've
kind of been prematurely pushed and kind of rejected and
then all of a sudden, now you're the guy. Now

(17:40):
the pressure is on more than ever. So all he's
got to do is shine and do the best he can.
But the bottom line is he's got to shine. He's
got to make chicken salad out of chicken scratch. And
you know he's either gonna sink or he's gonna swim.
Uh So, you know, if you think you got to
swim back to the back to the top, you just
can't fail. You. You could have roadblocks playing your you

(18:00):
can have performances that aren't so great, but at the
end of the day, you've got to get better and
you've got to be able to turn those people on
with the bell rings within a fifteen or tournament of
time there and give them a reason to like what
you're doing.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
If if you and Rock and Rick Flair and Hulk
Hogan were ten as far as having at least enough
boxes checked as big Star, top top guy in ring
on Mike, the right guy for the right moment in time,
because you were the right guy for the right moment
in time. Rick Flair in the Carolinas, in the in

(18:33):
the Southeast and other pockets of the country, right guy,
right time, in fact, he would have been fine nationally.
Hulk Hogan obviously right guy, right time for the expansion
in that regard. I guess I'm kind of complicated. Question
two questions where do you rate Roman right now on
his progress to try to become an eight, nine or ten?
Because I'd say Brett and Sean were probably eight or
nines in that regard. They weren't that top top tier.

(18:56):
Where is he now? And then is he the right
guy for the right time or Kenny be.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
I'll tell you what here here, here's a guy that
I really like and I want him to succeed. But man,
what are you grade now on one to ten scale?

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, let's say, like like I said, I if you
say Seawn Michaels and Brett Hart as centerpiece stars were
an eight or nine the attempt to go with Sid
or and I'm not trying to get you to pick
up it like sid you know, turned out to be
a four or five. You know, he just he had
some things good, but he just wasn't a guy that
they could really lean on full speed. Where do you

(19:34):
think Roman is and where do you think he tops
out at? Given what the progress you've seen.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Man, I don't know where he's gonna top out at
because that would be speculation because it's interesting because you
would look at someone uh in this regard different than
I would like me. I consider Shawn Michaels and Brett Hart,
both tens you know now, based on the scheme of
you know, maybe maybe you could say technically I drew
more money, but when you look at the skill set,
would with respect to what they did in the ring,

(20:02):
I was a damn good worker. I would classify those
two as better workers than me. So that's why I,
you know, it's hard for me to put a number
on someone. I'll just I'll just say that that Robot's
got a long ways to go. He's progressing, and I
don't want to put a number on him, but he's progressing.
Kay canny be all that they want him to be.
I don't know for sure yet, no one knows. And

(20:23):
again it's like I always tell you on my show,
you can be a top guy because you're the top guy,
but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to automatically
put asses in the seats. And that's ultimately the goal,
and to have enough of a fan base to make
people or do something that's of the fact or X

(20:44):
factor that makes people want to give their hard earned
money to buy a ticket and see you perform at
an arena or watch you on television, which is what
you know. The four guys you mentioned along with Brett
and Sean did so the kid has to do that.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Do you think I've never thought of asking you this before?
Do you think that you helped to define the era
that you were in more than you were the right
guy for the era that would have existed anyway? In
other words, you you were part of that attitude era,
the anti You can frame yourself in a lot of

(21:21):
different adjectives, but did you kind of define an era
or were you the right guy for the era that
you that that was going to exist no matter what
that the fan base sort of wanted something and you
fulfilled it.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Man, I don't know. It's it's hard to answer questions
like that about myself. I would say I helped define it,
but I think I was the right guy at the
right time, and a lot of a lot of guys
had attitude back then. And when you look at the
totality of our card, the rash we had, I mean,
there's so many guys right now that aren't in the
Hall of Fame that will be in the Hall of
Fame in the next few years of guys were in

(21:55):
the same blocker room, you know, when I was on top. Uh,
they're just you know our that locker room was absolutely
loaded with phenomenal tone. The depth was off the charts.
So anyway, I think Mick Foley always says it best, say, man,
I was the right guy at the right time. And
that's about as far as I'd go with that, because
I don't want to sit there like a bolt smoke

(22:16):
in my ass.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
I just uh, let's just mant it. You sucked, you
were lucky, you you had friends in high places, you were,
you were the most over.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
Man.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
I had a good run. But I don't like, I
don't like to get the bighead about it. I know,
but those other everybody else was so damn good. Uh,
I like mixed at it. And I'll just repeat what
Mix said. Hey, I was the right guy at the
right time. Hey, And I could have been a player,
you know, when Flair was in his prime. I could
have been a player when Hogan was in his prime. Uh.
But you know that that's all speculation because I came

(22:47):
along when I did, and they did when when they did.
So it was what it was, and I was happy
to have the run that I had with all the guys,
and I crossed paths with especially with respect to the
Attitude era. A WWF, we had a ass card.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Let's pivot to NXT did Did you have a chance
to see last night's card at all?

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yes? I watched part of the Bailey match. What's what's
the big girl's name?

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Uh Nia Jackson?

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Yeah, yeah, I like her. She still live at Green
but I like it girl. She plays a good monster
Hill And of course I love Bailey's work, and so
I saw about half of that match. I liked what
I was watching, and I got a chance to watch
Samoa Joe and send Balor once through and right now
I'm watching that as we speak on the telephone.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Excellent, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, your your thoughts. I loved it.
I thought it was a great man event.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
I didn't like the start. I didn't like the first
three to four minutes. I thought Joe being the bigger
gush and went in and took that. But obviously, uh
you know, on the build up it looked like, uh,
Samoa Joe had pissed off send Balor, so you know
they I didn't like to start when Joe started throwing
the punches in the corner, those jabs, That's when I

(24:04):
started getting into the match, and then it trailed off
a little bit, and then about the seven or eight
minute mark it really picked up, picked back up. Uh.
Some of the things I'd like to see out of
Finn Balor just a little bit more fire and so
he'll come with the chops every now and then, but
he just he needs to just have a little bit
more fire as a babyface. Now that being said, I'm

(24:27):
a huge Samoa Joe fan. I'm a huge Finn Balor fan.
Both these guys can work their asses off those those
ins of garry gimmick kicks Samoa and Joe was doing
in the corner and by the same token thin baller.
I think he's one or two just just off the
chart stuff. But one of the things is with Finn
boaler Is, I love that gimmick. You know, the paint

(24:47):
is very unique. It looks cool, but he's such a
good looking guy. When you get him in trouble or
when he fires up, it's hard to see that expression
because of all that paint. So I know it makes
for a bunch of action figures, but you know when
you look at Dyal Wilkes, the patriot working in that mask,
his fire came from within and you can see his
face say say, well, how was he able to pull

(25:09):
that across? Steve? You could just see it in his
body language. So I think said, whether it's through body
language or when he works without the paint, I think
he'll see more fire out of the kid. But man,
to me, he's such a good looking guy. Would I
wouldn't cover him up with a bunch of paint. But
I love both guys. I thought there's segments of the
match were premiere. Oh Joe just did that double chop

(25:29):
on the trap. I love that. I love when he
was elbow two. But anyway, I think they've had They
probably had better matches. I think there was good. There
was good spots in this match and its totality. I
think it was pretty damn good. Both guys are capable
of much better.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
We have an email question regarding fin Baler. I'll go
to that. This is Anthony from Australia. He says, Hi, Steve,
it will be morning in Australia when you get this,
and I'll be on my way to work. So a
swig of coffee for the working man. My son at
Mini loves Finn Balor after meeting him a couple of times.
What do you think is the best way to introduce
him to the main roster to ensure he doesn't get

(26:07):
stuck in the mid card.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
I don't love the best way to introduce this guy.
I just know that they have high hopes for him.
I know they're going to push the hell out of him.
So I just man, I said, how would you introduce you?

Speaker 1 (26:24):
I think that I would not do it as part
of a faction or a group or a friendship. I
would introduce him in with a different and I'm using
the term all out this week because Triple H's it
last week in his conference call with the media promoting
last night's XT Takeover special. I would introduce Finn Balor
with a different vibe and feel than I've ever done

(26:45):
with anybody else. And I wouldn't overhype him this. I
don't want this to be Glacier Part two. But I
think that when he comes in, I think for him,
it's important to treat him out of the gate. Although
there's more voices correct, but I'm gonna stick with this.
I think out of the gate. You want to introduce
him as a big deal, and I think part of

(27:06):
that is overcompensating for what doesn't bother a lot of
people but might bother some, which is he's not tall.
He's you know, Jericho's height and maybe even an inch shorter.
So I think you want to portray him out of
the gate not as somebody with no accomplishments and who's

(27:27):
trying to prove himself, but somebody with internet kind of
how they portray himn NXT, a guy with international accomplishments
who's now come to WWE to test himself against the best.
Have that be chapter one, But I think after that
you set it up as this guy is a big deal.
Then I think he being himself and not over scripting him,

(27:49):
not over controlling him, is part of what the charm
is because with him, I think it's there's a natural
charisma that's understated and that I'm I'm I think a
lot of people are fearful Steve, and this is what
I'm trying to talk my way through that vincick Man
will meet him, look down at him, see him as

(28:11):
being from another land and too short, and not see
him as larger than life, not understanding that what attracts
people to Finn Balor is almost that that superhero of
he's a normal guy, but then when he gets in
the ring for a big match, he becomes a superhero.
And I think playing off of that in a non
cheesy cartoonish way is the key. But I don't think

(28:34):
you introduced him like you know, one two three kid, Oh,
who's this little guy? Oh my gosh, he actually is
competing with Seamus. I think you kind of treat him
like a big deal out of the gate in terms
of his resume.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, I treat him like a big deal out of
the day at the gate because of his resume, and
you know, of course the gut you know, was over
like hell in Japan, and he's a tremendous worker. And
I just think that you don't want to get too
much heat on this guy early, shine him up and
all of his matches just uh, because he's not the
biggest guy in the world. But man to me again, Uh,

(29:07):
to me, he's he's blue collar, he's humble. When you
talk about the kind of the uh uh, what do
you call him a superhero type thing with the with
the makeup and everything, Well, where.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Were you kind of go your your Clark Kent by
day and Superman by night.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
Right, yeah, yes, so so you know there's all that,
But I just think, you know, the guy is a
real McCoy. I think he's blue collar. He's a hard
working guy. He's a good looking kid. And uh so
there's there's two different ways you can play him, you know,
as that guy or as kind of this this comic
book uh hero type thing with all the paint which
is dynamic. I think you know, there'll be a lot

(29:44):
of kids that get into this again. The only the
only problem I have with that when you paint this
guy up again. I don't want to harp on the
fact that I think it's a good look at guy,
but to me, that's one of his strengths. And he's
a real deal when you watch him those interviews, know
this is wrestling, is what he does for a living.
Bit his passion and that's his mission in life is

(30:06):
to be the world champion and to be the best
you can inside a squad circle. So I'd like to
be able to have all all of his facial expressions available.
The paid stuff is cool. I don't know, Wade, I
don't know how to answer your question, and I'll be
just as interested as as everyone else to watch what
happens with this guy. But I really like his body
of work. He's paid his dues, and he's badass.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Oh he sure is.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Then, I think one of the things about Finn is
he's one of the guys too you can almost kind
of get out of the way. I think there's some
guys like Kevin Owens. I feel that way too, with
don't over don't think that you need to go, well,
who is Kevin Owens and have it be he's the
viper or he's the you know, like the two word,
the demon like Kevin Owens is, he's a dad who's

(31:27):
got who will justify, who's got a snotty attitude. He's
full of himself. He can back it up in the ring,
but he's too cocky about it and he's willing to
justify doing anything to get ahead. Quote because he's a
family guy. And I love that. People go, well, how
is he a heel if he talks about his being
a dad and loving his kid, Well, because he's willing

(31:47):
to step on you to get ahead in a way
that's not sportsmanlike, and step on you even if you're
a dad with a kid. He'll kick your kid aside
and cheat to get ahead. Like I like that he
uses his family as an excuse to be a jerk,
and that makes him a heal and they kind of
get and I like that they haven't just tried to
make him anything other than that. And with Finn sometimes

(32:10):
it is kind of step out of the way and
let him be Finn and bring that more sports, Like,
here's here's an athlete who wants to be the best
at what he does. And then there's kind of that
Jeff Hardy enigma aspect of there's just something in Nate
and kind of different about him that that attracts people.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Yeah, and then going back to this match, like I said,
this is the second time I'm watching this match, and
again I think these two could have had a better
match than they had, and this is this is a
good match. But one of the things I like best
about this match is how that they're not telegraphing one
single thing and this is just two guys that probably

(32:48):
have I don't know, fifteen years a better experience close
to that much to really veteran hands, and you can
see the work that they're doing is premium work. There's
no telegraphing, you can't see a see a lot of talking,
you can't see him setting up with the next sequence.
This is about as organic and as real as you

(33:08):
can get inside a ring. So with that respect, this
is off the charts.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
And that's kind of what I think Triple Age is
getting at with NXT, saying there's a different vibe and
feel and he's got to be careful because I mean,
I think there's things about NXT that would not be
done if he were in charge of the main roster,
because I think maybe he deep down believes some aspects
of what NXT is only work on a smaller scale
with a niche audience, and that I just don't know

(33:33):
because he's he's got his foot in both both pools.
He's an advocate and supporter, although Vince ultimately has a
final say on the main roster. But he's very involved
in NXT. But there might be things he's doing there
that he doesn't think would would play on a very
large scale, and we just wouldn't know until he gained
that power. But what I do like that I hear
from him is it does seem like he believes that

(33:57):
having that kind of sports like vibe is in that
sense of what matters is competing and winning is enough
sometimes to draw people in. You want to get people
someone they're rooting for, some of their rooting against, and
something to fight for, and sometimes that's all you need.
And then you just pick the right guys and get
out of the way and let them tell their story
on the microphone.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Yeah, I agree, and it'll it'll be interesting to say,
you know, how to think keeps going? Where are they
gonna bring Samoa Joe up?

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Good question? I mean, he's you know, in his late
thirties at thirty six, thirty seven. He's not he's not
too old where you go well, you know, it's it's
too late. But I'm thinking probably after WrestleMania. I don't
think he's on a path to get called up before then,
but I wouldn't rule it out. I think a heel
Famojo against Roman reigns answers a question I brought up

(34:45):
fifteen minutes ago, which is who are the heels who
are lined up for Roman to have a feud with
and get a win against, because Vincent Man and Triple
H are not going to build the main brand around
Samoa Joe probably, I mean you know that. I mean
maybe he just takes off and Pop's eighty. It's like,
holy crap, look at what just happened here. We got
to go with him. But that's probably not their intent
at his age and his type. But he can be

(35:06):
a top five heel in that company for the next
five years and of Roman Rangs, oh Man good Man.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Samoa Joe is one of the best workers in the
world right now. I don't care what anybody says. The
only thing I can pick on him sometimes he needs
to hit the gas pedal and sets burdens, you know,
some of his covers or just in regards to heat,
but he can draw out a match just because of
the time filling stuff that he does. But I love
everything this guy does. His selling in the ring, that

(35:36):
kind of when he gets hit with that kick and
he does that stagger in the middle of the ring,
his offensive move set, and I'll tell you what, I'm
just a huge samoa Joe Van and just hit the
gas pedal a little bit when you're getting on somebody.
But other than that, man, I can't say nothing but
good things about his work.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
You know that that's great, and I'm with you. I'm
a huge advocate for Joe. I'm just trying to be realistic.
I like bringing him up for a feud with Roman,
but I don't want it to be just some quick
in and out because right now the focus clearly is
going to be a wrestler.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
No, no, because this is the kind of guy that
can take Roman range and have a thirty minute match
with him if you want to nine you want Roman
to go thirties. I love you do. But Kaycob and
you can go out there and give we well the
way Joe works, you know, and drawing out times you
could get thirty, but you can damn sure get twenty
twenty two in that ball park, or a hard ass
you know, you know, bost ass fifteen to eighteen out

(36:28):
of them, and you can make a few of these guys.
Mo and Joke can carry anybody to a four or
five star match, and he can damn sure do with
Roman Range.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
I'd love to see some O Joe Roman Rains headline
Summer Slam in twenty sixteen. I mean, just make that
their goal. I mean, having a fresh guy on top
who can get a really good match out of Roman,
and Roman maybe works to being ready to have that
thirty minute match with him, you know, I mean, Romans
helped he kept up with Daniel Bryan, he kept up
with brock Lesner. I think I think he wouldn't be

(36:57):
gassed and embarrassing himself at the twenty five minute mark
against Joe Oh, especially if he took it seriously, you know,
and knew this is coming up, and I got to.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Well, he's got to take it seriously, like I said,
you know, thirty minutes ago. Man, the pressures on this
kid wighed you know, Cardio to be to be you know,
one of the key things on his list of things
to do every single day, because man, if you can't go,
the worst thing you can be. I remember when I
was coming back to my tricap injury. I was worked
with Savio Vega every night in the ring for two months.

(37:26):
Jesus Christ, Savio kicked my ass because he's he's old
school Puerto Rican. He's gonna get his stuff in. I
had to shot him up and then I had to
get some heat on him. Held my heat consistent of
laying in a rear chinnelot because I was gassed. I
was blown up. But after working with Savio for two months,
he got my ass in shape. And if we weren't
jerking the curtain, we were the popcorn match and if

(37:48):
you follow it, there was basically nobody on the car
was going to follow that match after Siveo got me
in shape. So that's one of the things I really
loved about Saba was helping working But uh with Joe Man,
Joe can go in there and have a great match
in this kid. But Roman range, he has got to
be in premier physical condition right now. And Cardos should
be key one on his lists of things to do.
He's got a great body. He's got a great look.

(38:09):
He's a handsome guy. But mister, now, you've got to go.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
In a little bit less on the cocky smirking and
I think a lot Mick Foley said it, and it's like.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Doude smirk so much he needs to turn down his
facials by fifty percent just at a little glimmer here
or just he overplays that and it's too much because
because of just the way he comes off, it comes
across his elish and arrogant. And I don't I barely
know the guy. Uh And I think he's a good

(38:37):
dude and I'm cheering for him. But to your point, yes,
back off on all those those those facials, those looks,
those smiles or smirks, whatever you call them.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Anthony from Australia to follow up any plans to interview
Brett Hart or Daniel Bryan on WW network Happy Holidays
and hope to shout you a beer in Australia one day.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Well, I'll tell you what you know when here's how
that WW network stuff goes. You know, they pretty much
are our book and that they'll say, hey man, how
about talking to so and so, And I'll say, okay, cool,
so you know, it's not like a consisted well I
actually I can request, but I think that they kind
of have the next few picked as we build into WrestleMania.

(39:21):
So yes, I would love to talk to either guys.
I've talked to Daniel Bryan before, it was a phone conversation,
but love to catch up with him, seeing what he's doing,
how he's doing. Can he come back if they'll let him?
Willie and Brett is one of my favorites of all time.
He's one of the greatest workers to ever step foot
in the ring and an absolute artist. So I would

(39:41):
love to talk to either one. On the WW Networks
Done Co podcast.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
David Gillespie of Ona, West, Virginia, a VIP member, says,
excluding for time, did the WWE network edit any content
from your recent podcast with Shawn Michaels that you wanted
left him?

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I don't know because I've never seen a ww podcast
that I've done. I don't listen to the old shows
on the audio version because I don't like to listen
to my voice, and uh, I don't like to watch
myself on television, So I don't know what they left in.
I don't know what they took out.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
That is a uh, that is the answer I expected.
I totally get that. Let's uh, let's go to this question.
Sean Ell says, who and actually a number people emailed
this today. Who is your dream guest for your podcast
either on the network or just a phone, you know,
phone or Skype interview? And number two would Steve be

(40:33):
interested in having Hulk Cogan as a guest on his podcast?
And three? Who does Steve think is the best in
the business right now in any promotion?

Speaker 7 (40:44):
Man?

Speaker 2 (40:44):
As far as a dream guest, I don't know, Man,
I don't even hardly think about that. Really, I just
kind of planned my podcast by the fly. Uh see
to my pants. Wait you know this. I've talked to
you a couple of times. Hey, man, I need some help,
come on on to the show. So yeah, I don't
love a dream guests. As far as Hogan, I'd love
to talk Hogan on the podcast. Man. That guy, Uh,

(41:05):
I had one of that one, if not the biggest
run in the history of the business. I got a
lot of respect for the guy, So sure, I would
love to talk to him. And what was the other
part of that question, Wade?

Speaker 1 (41:14):
Uh, I have moved on to looking at the next one.
Let me bring it back up. Okay, No, no, I
got it. Maybe okay, and here we go, oh, there
we go. Oh who do you think is the best
in the business right now? Oh?

Speaker 2 (41:28):
Best in the business is purely up for you know,
it's my best may be different from your best, but
I think, uh, I think you put h just from
well rounded work watching Samoa Joe. That guy's a hell
of a damn hand.

Speaker 1 (41:44):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (41:44):
You can look at a guy like Finn Balor, you can.
You can throw him in there. You can. Uh, you
know that Daniel Bryan was around anymore, you can say
that guy. I like a lot of stuff that nevill does.
Best in the world, best in the world. Uh, God
dang helped me out here, wad.

Speaker 8 (42:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
I'm thinking of the main roster right now and the
top guys that they're kind of lining up. I mean,
there's a lot of guys I like, but I just
don't put like best in the world on them, you know,
I like Dean Ambrose.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
I was going from what I've seen these guys just
as far as move sets and how they work. But
you know, really it's not really who's the best. It's
like who's on top, who's number one? And you know
you know if so? And why well Romans his own time,
Roman range his own top right now, he just got
on top. He's not the best in the world, but

(42:32):
he's got a long ways to go. So we'll see
how he goes to Purdue, you know, attain that level
or put assids in seats other than that man. Because
I don't get a chance to watch you know, minnern
Row all the time. Way, that's why I just I
said the guys that I mentioned, just because I saw
a little bit of the work just just just recently.

Speaker 1 (42:52):
Well and I think a lot of times too. The
best in the world is not necessarily transferable to every
other situation. Like the best in the world in New
Japan is not necessarily the best in the world at WrestleMania,
and it's not necessarily the best in the world at
being in NXT. Like there's just guys who are really

(43:14):
really well suited for exactly what they're doing in the
spot that they're in, and it doesn't transfer Like you
don't need to be the best in the world to
necessarily be the top draw in a certain company at
a certain time. So in that sense. It's kind of
a tough question to answer because you could say, well,
the best in the world is ever drawing money in
drawing ratings. That's why I have you at a ten
and Shawn Michaels and Brett Hart at eight to nine

(43:35):
in the context of saying, you know, top star because
you drew way better than Breton Seawan did, and I
think you drew better than they would have if they
were given the same opportunity in the Attitude era. But
they were, as you said, unbelievably accomplished athletes and wrestlers
and ring generals, and so it's not sometimes you know,
Neville might be a better worker than Roman Reigns, but

(43:59):
how many people out there and some would someone would
take Neville as their top centerpiece star over Roman Reigns.
They both have some shortcomings when it comes to what
it takes to be that top guy.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
Yeah, so anyway, it's it's kind of a mood point.
It's subjective. A guess, who've already had their runs. You
could put an objective section into that just because of
who drew what, But that being said, what do you
got for me? Let's do that? Let's move on.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Absolutely, Okay, Brian from Phoenix, Arizona, twenty four year prosing
torch subscribers, says, Hey, Steve, Big Fanny or since the
WCW days, is there a chance that Chris Adams could
be inducted into the twenty sixteen Hall of Fame? Besides
the Free Birds? What other Texas acts would you like
to see inducted at WrestleMania thirty two and two years

(44:47):
ago asked Wade Keller and Veruse Mitchell about Iceman King
Parsons chances in New Orleans? Could Dallas be a better fit?
Thanks and happy holidays.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
Oh man, I don't think Chris Adams is going to
be on the radar of WWE with respect to the
Hall of Fame. I think Chris had a great run
and he was instrumental in my career as he trained
me and I got into a feud with him which
got me the real good year because of the high
profile of it, and we were able to pull him

(45:15):
off and execute at a high level, and I give
him all the credit in the world for that. I
really enjoyed working with Chris. I think he had a
ton of charisma. It was a great heal. He was
a babyface and that everybody in loved he had great fire.
You know, hall of fame. Then'd be up to WWE
and from the rest of the Texas people. Man, I

(45:37):
can't think of enough the guys from Texas. Just off
the top of my head, I just say hall of fame. So,
you know, Gino had such an interesting run, but it
was a short run because you know, he died at
a very young age. But I mean, that guy had
superstar written all over him. It's kind of ahead of
his time. But you know, I don't think he's going
to be under under radar. Im speaking of Gino Hernandez,
but I don't know that you just say, Okay, here

(45:59):
you go, We're going to put him in a hollow fame.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
Thanks for listening to our podcast. Did you know we
also have a website pw torch dot com. Daily news updates, editorials,

and my live pay per view coverage for WWE and
ae W. Create a tab or bookmark make it a

(46:25):
dot com. Yeah, I mean everybody he mentioned our you know, borderline,
even in a context that isn't the WWE lens. You know,
what did you do in WWE? Or you better have
been at the very very topic you weren't.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
And I don't exactly Yeah, but here's the thing. A
guy sent me to email the other day. He said,
what about superstar Bill dot Be? He was five to
blah blah blah, deserve been a Hall of Fame. But
first of all, Bill was probably five six or five seven.
I don't know exactly how Taber was never said stand
up here against this wall. I want to say, I'll
tell you are, But I'll tell you what Superstar Bill Dundee,

(47:03):
in my opinion, ought to be in Hall of Fame.
That son of a gun drew money, and Lawler gets
a lot of credit where people who go back in
history and washing up Lawyer's work. He was one of
the greatest of all time. That dude could talk anybody
into a building, He could carry his into the conversation
or promo. Him and Lance Russell were absolutely gold. But
half that money and Drew was with Bill Dundee. And

(47:24):
I remember when I when I went there, I was
working with Bill Dundee, And of course I was at
the time by six two two fifty five to fifty
two whatever, And now sudden I'm working with a guy
that's about five seven two hundred and I'm thinking I'm
just going to beat the hell out of him because
I'm the bigger guy. Well that's when I got my
you know, come to Jesus meeting with an established veteran

(47:44):
and star in the territory. And I learned so much
from from Bill Dundee. So although he wasn't from Texas,
he was a guy that I crossed paths with down
there in Tennessee. But that's a guy to me who
doesn't belong in Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (47:59):
I'm with young that you mentioned Jerry Lawler, and and
it got me thinking too, Kevin Owens, when you talk
about the doing saying a lot without always yelling, and
I'm with you that there's times he's got to put
on the gaspital. But Lawler was a guy who picked
his moments too, And I think Kevin Owens, if he
isn't a student of Jerry Lawler, reminds me of him.

(48:22):
I think everybody, every single wrestler, Wade, Barrett, Seamus Roman arraigns.
Everybody should watch and study Jerry Lawler, and you got
to talk to the person who knows what material to
look at. Although really there's no bad Jerry Lawler. I mean,
I mean, you know, I mean, but pre WWF is
what I'm talking about, especially what he did in Memphis
with a limited in the ring, not just on the mic.

(48:44):
How efficient he was a telling a story without taking
a bunch of crazy bumps and doing a bunch of
high spots and having a super muscular body by any means,
he's he's still one of the geniuses of this of
this sport for what he did.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
And again you go back and watch his own promo.
Listen and watch to his cadence, how he'll start and
he'll get on a roll and you know then he'll
slow down or I'll shake his head. But just just
watch watch his delivery, his execution, and just just how
he flows. Jerry Lawler was the one of the best
doggers in the history of the business.

Speaker 8 (49:16):
Bar Nuts.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
Yes, absolutely, all right, next email question. We'll take a
couple of calls in a minute here too. Listening to
both of you talk about pro wrestling, and I'm hoping
these chats remain a regular slot on both podcasts after
each month's pay per views. Well, we'll see a quick
question for Steve. Knowing Vince as well as you do.
What do you think his mindset was returning to TV
after so long? Was it just a case of screw it,

(49:39):
I'll have to go out there and get rowing over myself.
Or do you think he did it to prove a point,
perhaps to prove to himself that he still has what
it takes to be great on screen, or prove to
the fans that they that they will like what he
wants them to like, because he's Vince mcmahondammit, and it takes.
If it takes him going out there and shoving it
down their throat, then so be it. Or maybe he
wanted in ego boots see if his apparents would significantly

(49:59):
increase those ratings, which it did. Yeah, I mean you
don't have to say address each of his theories that
he threw out, but just in general, it took, if
you works more more than anybody did with vincic Man
more successfully. What do you think the mindset was of
Vince going out there? I mean, was it I think
I need to get out there to give Roam the
boost and to let people know I'm not wavering. This

(50:21):
guy's my guy.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
Well, I mean you're talking from an IWC standpoint. I'm
not waiving. This is my gap just from the casual
fan or the hardco fan and just watches the TV
show and it doesn't get on the internet. Hey man,
his job is to go out there and get that
kid over. That's that's okay. Uh, yeah, that's the guy

(50:45):
that he picked. But that's not what we're thinking while
we're supposed to just be watching Ralph or what it is,
unless you want to go behind the scenes and start
to start talking book and that's a whole different story.
But yeah, it worked with with you know, when he
did the few little thing with with Brett, when Brett
pushed him down. Obviously, the angle that we did together was,
you know, a huge part of my career and transited

(51:08):
the business. So it was a little bit of a
page out of the Austin McMahon feud. But that's just fine.
I'm sure we took a few pages out of every
other body someone else's book as well. My point is
he's trying to get the guy over. He thought this
would be a good enough opportunity to do it. He
put himself back on TV. He seems pretty uh, you know,

(51:29):
resigned just to be off camera now, but to make
a special appearance and help get the kid over. And yes,
mister McMahon does put Ascid in seat and he does
to and in viewers because he's over. And so that's
why he went back on TV. And will it be back,
who knows. But they got what they needed out of him.
They moved Roman up to another peg, another wrung, and

(51:51):
it weren't.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
And I think it's also important for context to realize
no seth Rawlins, no you make infreshment, Steve of.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
No John Cena, so much breaking in out here in
the ranch. Talk to me about John Jaya.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
Yeah. So in the context of Vince McMahon and Stephanie
and Hunter doing what they did with Roman this week,
it's important to keep in mind scene is out, Danny
Bryan's out, seth Robins is out, Randy Orton is out,
there's so many injuries. The part timers aren't around right now,
and they just realize what the ratings, the way they were,
the crowd response is the way they were having Roman
kind of just hover around for three four more weeks
before they get to Mania season might have done even

(52:28):
more damage. So I think part of the reason Vince
came back is he looked around and he didn't see anybody.
And you could say, well, it's his fault for not
getting people ready. I mean, that's a reasonable debate point.
But he looked around and said, I gotta get Roman over.
It's not working with anyone else, damn it. I got
to step in, and I think that's part of it.
I also am curious at what point, if ever, Vince

(52:51):
and he probably isn't gonna be on TV very much
at all going forward, but does he ever change from
chairman mister McMahon, great fruits. You don't think I can
kick your ass? I can to a different, more age
appropriate character or role. I mean every wrestler goes through
what sort of Vince is now at a later age
in terms of transitioning or Kobe Bryant's going through it now.

(53:13):
You know I can't. I can't. I'm not the athlete
I once was. I don't know that's bringing my step
and I'm getting hurt too often. Vince is almost at
that point at age seventy in terms of being the
mister McMahon gravelly voice character. I would look forward to
seeing if he transitioned into something else that felt fun
and effective, but perhaps more age appropriate. Unless he just

(53:34):
is going to continue to be the crazy old guy
who still thinks he's thirty five.

Speaker 2 (53:39):
Yeah, but war would be fun and effective that this
would do. You know, I just don't think there's a
context and wish that fits. I mean, certainly he's all
about putting a smile on people's faces, but that's not who,
in my opinion, the mister McMahon character is. And to
your point, sometimes characters need to evolve. But I don't

(53:59):
mean to put the gap into a box and say
this is all you can be. But you know, I
don't know that I want to see the mellow events
or you know, here's the thing. Back when I used
to go out there, when they bring me back for
all these special appearances, just to go out there and
clack beerors together, you know, and to me it was
just it got to be. You know, it was great

(54:19):
to see the fans, it's great to get the pop,
but it was very gratuitous because that's all that I
was doing, because and I had to explain this to
Kevin Dune one time. I said, listen, I said, you
guys got to understand, back in the day, when I
was working full time, I was always against the system.
The system was against me. I was pissed off. I
had a reason to do all these things that I'm doing.
So now that I just come out there and crash

(54:41):
a few beers together, it's great for nostalogia, but you
got to put yourself in my shoes as a person
that's doing it. It's kind of hard. So, you know,
for Vince just to to you know, probably slewed off
track there, but it's it's uh and it was a

(55:01):
bad segue there, Wade.

Speaker 1 (55:02):
That's all right. Uh.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
I just I just don't you know, but I just
don't see I just don't see uh, this changing for
the sake of changing.

Speaker 4 (55:12):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
You know, he's that guy, and I think that's who
what is gonna be. I don't think that you can
see him on TV.

Speaker 9 (55:19):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (55:20):
And and you know, consecutive league so or if ever again,
well that that remains to be saved.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Did did we earlier? Uh? And I'm sorry if I
missed it. Did you say who your dream podcast guest
would because we had another question uh from uh Callum
Hillier uh v P member and he wanted to know.
Oh you know what, this actually expands it. Who would
be your dream podcast guest from today or the past,
dead or alive? And it doesn't have to be a wrestler.

(55:47):
That's interesting.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
Oh man, ah.

Speaker 1 (55:53):
Yeah, I love that. I've seen documentaries on that guy.
I he's not He doesn't seem like he was the
greatest guy in the world. But man, do I love
watching documentaries on him.

Speaker 5 (56:08):
Longing for some nostalgia or maybe you want to learn
some wrestling history, don't miss the Nineties Past cast every
Friday on the PW Torch Daily Cast feed. Alex and
Patrick will transport you thirty years into the past by
taking you through the Torch issue from that very week.
Follow news from the WWF and ww and all the

(56:29):
happenings from across the wrestling industry in real time as
The Torch reported it thirty years ago. That's the Nineties
Pass cast every Friday on the PW Torch Daily Cast Feed.

Speaker 2 (56:48):
Man, he was just a unique individual. Yeah, he was.
He would have been a great part wrestler.

Speaker 1 (56:54):
I agree, I agree. I wish I knew the name
of the documentary that I watched. It was probably like
twenty years ago. Now I probably watched like three times.
He's you're absolutely right, super fascinating character. Give me a
couple other names on NETA. Oh, go ahead, expand on
that too.

Speaker 2 (57:08):
No, but yeah, check out the new documentary I'm just
called Being Evil and they've got a lot of stuff
in there that there wasn't release before. And I'm doing
research right now to interview Robbie Knievel, his son, so
that's gonna be coming up in a few weeks. I'm
really looking forward to talking to him. That guy's had
a rough life and tough life and jumped other than
his dad, you know, of course Evil had the gimmick

(57:29):
with you know, being Evil Knievel. So nonetheless, his son
had a hell of a career. So I'm looking forward
to talking to him. Man, I tell you what, I
think you'd been interested to sit down and try to
have a conversation with Flying Brian Pilbin just because he
left us way too soon. I would have loved to
talk to Randy Macho man Savage, just because that's the
guy that I never you know, I did the job
for him one time in Orlando. But me and him

(57:51):
we never mixed, We never talked, we never hung around
a lot of respect and admiration for him. We just
we just We're never around in the same territory together.
So I didn't get chased to knowing. But that guy
was one of the best of all time. Those are
just a few names off the top of my head.

Speaker 1 (58:06):
I love this. I mean, it's again I got to
get my obligatory world class reference in. But you mentioned
em earlier, Gino Ornandez. I'd love to see you talk
to Gino. He's somebody who I saw as a early,
you know, young teenager and then he died. But I
thought he had such a here there's something. There was
just a real special, heal charisma about him that I
think would actually be really interesting on a podcast.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
Well you know. Also, yeah, yes, your point. And also, man,
I would have loved talked to Bruise of Brody. I
would have loved to talk to Terry van van Gordy.
But Brody, I mean because behind that, you know, the menacing,
crazy character that he was in the ring was a
super smart, very thoughtful cat you know, in real life,

(58:48):
and you know, I don't know anything about how he
practiced his business. You know, he went over to Puerto
Rico and got murdered and no one's ever really got
to the bottom of that. But man, that dude was
a very a very smart guy. He was a businessman,
he was over as hell, and he was a badass
and man he was he was an original.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
Vince Senior would be a great podcast guest if you
could get capture him at you know, at the night Ties.

Speaker 2 (59:14):
Well, yeah, I'll go with you on that. Yeah that's senior.
But how about this one, Vince McMahon not playing the
face of the company and just talking as a dude. Yeah,
that because I'm talking on the Stone Cold podcast. And
that was one thing. But again, you're talking to a
guy who's the head of a publicly traded company and
we can only go where we went. Said you just

(59:36):
sit there and have a conversation. Say all right, Vince,
I'm gonna ask you anything and everything I want to
ask right now here we go. And by the way,
don't remember that you're you know, the head of this uh,
this this company, this this corporate publicly traded company, and
just answer the questions. Un let's shoot the breeze. Like
a couple of guys making whiskey over a fire. That

(59:56):
would be off the charts because that guy has seen
it all and done it all.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Have you ever?

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Probably can't talk.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
About No, he can't, No, he can't. Did. I had
Bob Becklan on the show a couple of months ago,
actually a couple times in a row, UH, to talk
about his autobiography. It's a great book. I know you
don't like to read a lot of books. Bob's book
was really fascinating March through the late seventies to early eighties. WWF,
you know just that that era. I had never seen

(01:00:23):
anybody cover it in the kind of detail that he
and his co author who did. It's just a tremendous
job with the book. And I want to get the
co author of Shout Out if I can find the
book on my shelf among all these others. But the Uh,
Bob talked about his relationship with Vince Senior and said
that he considered him, he was felt he was really
close with him, but he never really had long conversations

(01:00:44):
with him. You know, there was there was a connection,
but it was a trusted employee trusted boss type relationship.
When you look at your relationship with Vincent, Man, how
did you ever have the drink and whiskey around a
campfire conversation with him at any length or at any
level where you felt you were getting past that that

(01:01:04):
veneer that he feels the need to put up. Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Absolutely, man. We'd go out to dinner every now and
then meet him and Shade and we'd be sitting there
and drinking, uh whatever, Vet's drake, some kind of high
dollar stuff. We drinking on the rocks. Uh, just shooting
the breeze.

Speaker 6 (01:01:21):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
I had many great conversations with Vince, and I just
didn't consider him a boss. I mean he was a mentor.
I considered him a friend, and we we had all
kinds of conversations, you know, if I ever sometimes not
every time, because you know, being a guy. Uh, No
one asked for help, But I mean that guy gave
me advice on certain times. And uh, I would definitely

(01:01:45):
say that we were way closer than just being a
boss and an employee. I considered a guy friend and
we had lots of laughs and lots of k fame
conversations together.

Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
That's good, that's cool. That's good to know. If would
you be able to go up to now or even
think about it and go Vince. I know you're busy,
but damn, we had some good years together and we
did a lot, and I just want to catch up,
and I want to do it without cameras rolling a
mic on just you know, let's just you know, I mean,
it's like, let's get together and let's just reflect a
little bit, because neither of us are going to be
on this planet forever, and I don't want to lose

(01:02:18):
that opportunity to look back on a little because Vince
looks forward so much. That is that something you'd look
forward to or do you think you're just kind of
both in a different place now.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
As a matter of fact, I was filming a Broken
Skull Challenge. I think it was not this past season,
the season before, And you know, every now and then,
into business, I'll just reach out to someone, and right
before Paul Barrett died, I'd reached out to him and
we had started talking on the phone. But you know,
so one night I was out there at the ranch.
I stay on the location fifty miles out of Los Angeles,

(01:02:49):
out there in my trailer, and it's just absolutely wonderful
because I'm fifty miles out of LA in the middle
of nowhere, on a mountain in a desert. So I said,
I was just thinking about some wrestling day I sitting
with some texts. Man just say, hey, man, I just
want to let you know I surely enjoyed working with you,
and you know, I just reaffirmed, you know, the fact that, hey,
you know, because a lot of guys that get into,

(01:03:11):
you know, the business, or they get to the WWF
and then everything's hunky dory and then there's a big
blow up and everybody hates each other, you know. So
now I'm, you know, doing my own thing now, but
I'm still technically with WWE. I just wanted a guy
to know that, hey, I appreciated everything he did for me,
and you know I did things for him too, but
he really helped me out, and my wrestling career has

(01:03:32):
helped me, you know, to this very part of my
life sitting here talking to you on the phone, and
has afforded me so many opportunities. And that's one thing
that's always says he does. He gives people an opportunity.
So I wanted to I just wanted to let him
know after the good times at the bad times that hey,
I appreciated everything he did for me, and one of

(01:03:52):
these days I like to catch you up. And I
basically almost said that in the text, just shoot the
breeze and just talk. And he's down with it. So
maybe in the next year or two we'll get a chance,
and I know we're going to sit down in the
steak aus, have a couple of shots and whisky or whatever,
and shoot the breeze. I did send him that text,
and I think we're going to do that in one
of these days. I don't know when, because he's a

(01:04:13):
busy He's busy as hell, and I'm over on the
West coast or in South Texas and I'm busy's hell.
But that that isn't an agreement that we look forward
to doing one of these days.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
I'm gonna apologize the callers. We're not going to take
calls today, so those of you on hold, I just
wanted to talk to Steve today, pick out a few
emails from the batch we got, and we both have
kind of a hard sixty minute limit today, which normally
we're a little more flexible. But I want a final
question because you just said something about hanging out with
Shane McMahon too. Do you think Shane McMahon from the
time you were with him, does it surprise you that

(01:04:45):
he's not in the wrestling business, And knowing him back
then the way that you were able to, do you
think it's in any way inevitable or even possible that
he gets back into wrestling in some form or fashion.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
Man, that's me purious speculation. That is inevitable he gets
back in it. But man, Shane, that guy's so passionate
and loves the business. Every single thing about it he loves.
And so I would have never imagined, you know, all
these years, you know, removed from when you know I
left the picture and then he left the picture or

(01:05:19):
whatever happened between uh, you know, the family members and
he went his own way. Never in a million years
when I guess Shane McMahon would be out of the
business of pro wrestling.

Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Wow. And yet Stephanie and Hunter seem pretty prime to
be those It'd be awkward, I think for Shane to
come back, but who knows, you know, maybe there's a
over time, Uh, stephan Hunter might think there's a place
for him that would really make sense, and and uh,
and they would see him as fitting in and Shane
would feel comfortable coming back. It's an interesting story to
keep an eye on, Steve. Think.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Yeah, but you just mentioned you you hit it right,
You hit that right on the head. I mean the
power dynamics there with with you know, Triple Agent Stephanie.
You know they're maybe you know they're next in line. Yeah,
and you know again, Stephanie was off the charts the
other night with those slaps. I loved it. So Paul's
doing the greatest work of his life right now in
the role and that he's doing and it'll be interesting

(01:06:10):
to see, you know, what happens when they get handed
the range. An interesting time. But I don't see that
Shane would just come back and everything's gonna be hunky
door man. That's a power struggle and that's a shoot.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
Yeah, Steve, thank you so much, always good talking to you.
Time flew by and I looked at the clock and
we hadn't gotten the callers, So get apologized to callers.
Thanks Steve for your time. It's good getting a little
follow up here on what we talked about on your
show on Tuesday. Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Hey, Hey, you're welcome, Wade and so I got lost
in translation trying to describe the stone cold character with
the vest Man character. I'll get back on track and
we'll cover that again. I got sidetracked. I got a
bunch of projects going on out here at the ranch.
But nonetheless, yeah, always happy to be on your show
and late. Let me give a couple of quick plug
out there and Steve Wolston Show Arizona Tuesday is family friendly.

podcast which ain't won achieved d thanks.

Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
And does that bother you or no?

Speaker 2 (01:07:18):
No, I love to say that because if I went
an award, I won't be able to say that the
award winning podcast which is never won an award. So
really it's a whole rib. I'm not out there to
win awards? Was it out? You know? It's just it's
just something fun for me to say.

Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
Yeah, that's what I thought. Steve, thanks a lot. You
can follow him on Twitter. Just look up Steve Austin.
I do you have a reality show that people should

(01:10:23):
fine program for you. Let me say, I think we
have at least one of our scheduled guests online. So
hold on, here we go, ask what it's.

Speaker 1 (01:10:32):
Time to do. So it really makes me happy to
introduce to.

Speaker 10 (01:10:36):
You, ladies and gentlemen, former television producer and head honcho
over at Mask Republic, putting together helping to put together
shows and sell Luca merchandise for you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:47):
Do you want?

Speaker 10 (01:10:47):
And only Kevin Kleinrock? How you doing, Kevin Good?

Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
I think that was my first muppet to intro. I
like that nice.

Speaker 10 (01:10:56):
Oh you want to keep that one? Okay, I'm okay. Well,
we are expecting to have Scott Fishman from the Miami Harold,
he should be let me see, he should be calling
in shortly, unless I'm misunderstanding how this works. Okay, well,
I'll just keep an eye on him. It's six four,
six seven eight if he's listening. Okay, now, Kevin, I
know that you are busy during this holiday season. I

(01:11:18):
would know that even if you hadn't been messaging me
on Twitter with stuff about what is called what is it?
Lucha loots? So why don't we just cover that briefly?

Speaker 4 (01:11:27):
Sure?

Speaker 7 (01:11:28):
You know?

Speaker 10 (01:11:28):
So.

Speaker 4 (01:11:29):
One of the things that we've really been building from
mass Republic over the last number of years is helping
Luca Doors to exploit their own intellectual property and make
money themselves off selling masks and T shirts. And you know,
most the Lucha Liedbra merchandise out there is pretty bootleg.
And you know, when you go to most indie shows
and you buy a Doctor Wagner mask, you buy a

(01:11:50):
you know, a random shirt, the Lucia Doors are not
seeing any money from that. So we've worked really hard
to build lucashop dot com, which is, other than buying
from Luca stores direct, probably the only way to get
official T shirts and masks. And different things from lucidors,
and there's been such a great demand for that that
you know, I've always wanted to for about ten years now.

(01:12:10):
I want to do like a Mask of the month's
club where people could get a new mask every month.
And now with the blinds they get crazy. You know,
you've got you've got loot Create and nerd Create, and
you've got your wrestling versions of that. We decided to
do an all Luca li Braates themed Luca loot to Create.
So every month you get a new mask, you get
a T shirt, you get a copy of our new

(01:12:31):
English language Luca magazine called Rudo Can't Fail, and you
get a bunch of other things depending on your level
of membership. And to me, one of the best parts
about it is everything is one hundred percent officially licensed,
so lucadors are either seeing direct cash from the sales
or they're getting copies of the merchandise that we're making
for them so they can sell. It's pretty cool and

(01:12:52):
start to twenty bucks. We also have like gift cards
for it now, so if people aren't themselves into Lucha libreids,
but they have a friend that's in the Luca LII
Brave then speaking you to buy them a gift subscription
or a gift card and it's all at Luta lut
dot com. But you're your prorestling torch.

Speaker 10 (01:13:10):
Uh. Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:13:12):
Compatriot Sean Radikin is actually giving one away. Yes, he
gave one away and he's going to be giving another
one away through his Twitter. So if you don't follow
Sean already, which you should, uh, make sure you follow
him so you have a chance of winning Luca lucret.

Speaker 10 (01:13:28):
Yes, his Twitter account is Sean Radikin. It's a really
difficult one to uh. I think most of you can
find it. And yeah, I mean definitely, yeah, definitely. If
you have a chance to win free loot from uh
from Luca Lutan from the Torch, you know, I would definitely, uh,
I would definitely take that. Now, you also have you know,
you also sort of have your finger on the pulse
of what's going on there, and every so often you

(01:13:49):
let us know about big Luca events coming up. Is
there anything on the horizon this holiday season like that?

Speaker 9 (01:13:56):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
You know it's uh if you're in next there's a
lot of shows going on around this Christmas holiday. But
you know, in the US, you have your internationally, I'd
say you have your your spattering events here there. One
of the things that's pretty cool is, I don't know
if you guys are so aware of it yet, but
there's a newer group that started out of Toronto, Canada

(01:14:20):
called Lucia Toronto absolutely absolutely Titles, and they've started running
some really great shows, mixing local Toronto talent with some
of the top indie guys in the US and bringing
in at least one or two kind of Mexican headliners
every show. They've got an event coming up in January
that's actually a fundraiser for a local a local special

(01:14:45):
need children charity, which is obviously for me very close
to my heart being the father of too special needs kids,
and they're bringing in La Park and Pantera for the show.
So people who don't know about Luca Toronto yet, shod
definitely check them out on on social media and on
you know, on Facebook and whatnot.

Speaker 10 (01:15:04):
I mean, I mean, I remember a decade ago where
Sammy z Ain started out as in Montreal as a luchador.
So you know there's a there's obviously you know, there's
obviously president for this, and I know there's a lot
of good talent in the Toronto wrestling scene. In the meantime,
I believe we have our other guests here on standby,
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome from the Miami Herald, mister
Scott Fishman. Scott, how you doing.

Speaker 8 (01:15:27):
I'm goodd Sorry I'm a little late today. Okay, technical
technology issues of so you know how that goes?

Speaker 10 (01:15:34):
Yes, unfortunately I do, all right? So well, Scott, let
us know. I mean, you know, in fact, you got
introduced on the site today as wrestling interviewer Scott Fishman.
So I guess I should ask h what's the what's
the next big interview that we can expect from you?

Speaker 8 (01:15:50):
Well, I don't know if it's the next big interview,
but I just posted an interview with Murphy n x
oh Channel diet Yeah, Channel Guy website. So he talks
about being the first Australian born UH wrestlers to become
a WW champ to a W Champion champion. He often
talks about working with Blake, how Dusty Rhodes served as

(01:16:11):
a mentor to him, working with Alexa Bliss, and you know,
some different things he talks about. So definitely worth a read.

Speaker 10 (01:16:17):
And that's on the Channel.

Speaker 8 (01:16:18):
Guide block website actually, which I've been writing for lately.

Speaker 10 (01:16:21):
Now. Yeah, I've noticed that even though you know, even
though maybe WWE, Raw and SmackDown aren't aren't as popular
and as don't have as many viewers as they much
as once they have, the on nxt is, still it's
still a hot property.

Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:16:38):
So, I mean there's so many people that watch it now,
you like, even talks about you get recognized now in
the supermarket. I mean, the WW network a lot of
people watching US destination programming Wednesday nights more than Raw
Tanson nowadays. A lot of times if you you know,
you go by you here on Twitter and social media.

Speaker 10 (01:16:55):
Of course, I don't know about that, but you know,
people definitely seem a little more enthusiastic about watching nxt
is as they do, you know, watching ROB. Some of
it might be because NXT, you know, Raw's three hours
and fifteen minutes an NXT or NXT you get a nice,
tidy hour wrestling and you're you know, you're ready for more,
I guess, but I don't have to tell you that.

(01:17:18):
Let's see. So it's great having both of you on
six four six eight. We have let's see we have
I think list an email. Let's see, Oh Sammy, okay,
here we go. We we I don't really have a
breaking news sound effect at the moment, but uh, the
the hot tip that we're getting is that tomorrow in Newcastle, uh,

(01:17:39):
Sammy Zine will have his comeback and will be uh
wrestling Finn Balor.

Speaker 8 (01:17:43):
So.

Speaker 10 (01:17:44):
Uh that's that's that's pretty big news. Good to good.
It'll be good to have Samy zin back. All Right,
we're gonna we're gonna try this out. We're going to
go to the telephones. We're we're very brave here six
four six seven eight. We're going to kick things off.
We have the two four Oho area code two four
Oh hold on, let me get this going. Shoot, I'm
sorry guys speaking of technical problems. I know I have

(01:18:06):
this summer okay, too far a police station to name
in town. You're on the live cast with Scott.

Speaker 7 (01:18:12):
This is Tryan from Crumbland, Maryland.

Speaker 10 (01:18:15):
Hello. Ryan.

Speaker 7 (01:18:17):
First question for you is about start at the TNA.
If you were to sign some new acquisitions as far
as wrestlers or commentators, managers, referees, who would you sign
for the relaunch this well.

Speaker 10 (01:18:33):
I mean my first concern would be where I would
get the money to sign anybody for a relaunch since
you know, since in the past two years, we've gone
from TNA earning about thirteen million a year from Spike
TV for impact to in twenty sixteen them earning nothing
from Pop TV. I mean, I mean there are people
out there. I mean, it's just a question of you know,

(01:18:54):
finding Uh, it's just a question of how much you're
you're willing to spend. And TNA is I know they're
trying to keep cross down. I think they've been doing
a decent job with that. Let's see, Kevin, what any
hot prospects that do you think that TNA should be
going after?

Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
Yeah, you know, I mean I think well, first the
question really you know, now they're on Pop TV, and
what is that audience that's on Pop TV going to
be looking for? And one thing I feel kind of
unfortunately for TNA, is that, just like in the past,
they would sign the big name former WW superstars that
Kevin Nashes and the basically anyone that's coming out at WW.

(01:19:34):
I think that to get attention on the on pop
and to find audience that doesn't already know of TNA,
it might take doing some of those things that are
possibly progressive for the product itself but might bring eyeballs
in terms of like top independent talent to sign. And
like certain guys that I'm really big on. I don't
think it's you know, these are secrets, but guys like

(01:19:54):
Tommy Yen, who is probably honestly in the evolved system
now because you'll probably end up going to NX, going
to W but uh, you know, people people like that,
you know, I to anyone that's near the top or
middle of the evolved card. Those are guys that people
should be looking at. You know, it's it'll be interesting

(01:20:16):
to see what they do, because I feel like as
much as they have this amazing test on factor and
they have managed to stay alive for so long, I'm constantly,
you know, questioning myself what possibly could be done to
to bring them either back to where they were or
to the next level. And I don't know that any
piece of talent, or or a few pieces of talent

(01:20:37):
is gonna is gonna make a huge difference over there.

Speaker 10 (01:20:41):
Okay, Scott, you know what Florida is. U is the
place to go if you're an indie wrestler looking to
you know, looking to crack a roster somewhere. Have you
seen any guys that you think would qualify.

Speaker 8 (01:20:54):
Well, we have we have run in Wrestling Now, which
is bringing some independent talent like next month they're being
check Taylor and Trent Burretta And but I agree with
you guys as far as like bringing in a top name,
I don't know if that will have a long term impact.
I mean, you want to get people to watching the show,
but I think they need in order to really build
an audience, they really just need to, you know, have
these great have good matches and compelling television. I think

(01:21:17):
that was actually a really good time for Teenage to
have sort of quote launcher, have this like fresh take
on things because of what's going on with WW and
maybe you know, people are disenfranchised with that and not
happy with the way things are going, so this is
an opportunity for them maybe to be the alternative. Finally,
going back to the basics of what Grostlins of the dance,
and that was you know, their wrestling ability. Their talent

(01:21:39):
roster was never an issue. It was always you know,
whatever kind of direction they were going creatively or everything
that was happening behind the scenes and just get putting
it like a bad taste in people's mouth. It was
like a dress cloud over their head the last couple
of months, when you know, they had all these months
of television tapes and you know everything, everybody already knew
what was going on behind the scenes, so that kind

(01:21:59):
of hurts their product of what you're saying on TV.
I mean, lately they've been you know, the focus is
about in this World Title series, and I mean I
didn't really like how they went into it, but I've
actually enjoyed, I mean, you know, ignoring what's been going
on backstage, but ignoring that and then watching the product
for what it is and the wrestling, you know, is
very wrestling centric, which I enjoy. So I think if

(01:22:20):
they focus on that and people will watch it if
they get a nice little buzz going. And then I
think focusing on who they're going to bring in, I
think I don't know if they should necessarily do that.
You want to bring one or two recognizable names, like
I mean, I don't know if they want to bring
in more w TOE guys, but maybe like a Timmykalan
even or Brad Maddock Stevens. These are guys that you know,
weren't getting that opportunity that they have this platform now

(01:22:42):
where they can bring in guys and develop some sort
of buzz. But I think the buzz, real buzz would
be just having good matches and going back to the
basics and trying to be different than what you're seeing
on WWE's television these days.

Speaker 10 (01:22:55):
Yeah, I mean, I would, you know, if it were.
I mean, I would probably be focusing on guys who
are on you know, look look for guys who are
on Ring of Honor TV who are not under contract.
Look for guys who are in Evolved that haven't really
you know, hit the ww radar, and and they're still
gonna be gonna be some wrestlers like you know who
have who have sort of left TNA, but they're not

(01:23:16):
really signed anywhere else that they'll probably cycle back through.
And you know, if you're using them for five or
sixty if you're using them for three or four episodes
at a time, that that's fine. I mean, but I
don't know that there's the you know, I don't know
if there's that one hot piece of talent that's gonna
that's gonna rescue t and A. I mean, you know,
Ricochet is pretty good. I Combat Zone has some have

(01:23:37):
some good wrestlers. But you know that anybody who's hot
is going to is probably gonna end up getting a
WWE tryout before anything else. So you're looking, You're looking.
You're trying to look in places where nobody else is looking.
I mean, ar Fox is a name that you know,
you could probably He's not gonna be on the radar.
You can probably, you know, you could probably bring him in.

(01:23:57):
And he has a look, and and he can do
some unique moves. Other than that, you know, other than that,
I don't I don't know what to tell you.

Speaker 11 (01:24:10):
I'm Kelly Wells, host of the seven Star Podcast, the
new ongoing Torch show covering the world of New Japan
pro wrestling. We'll drop new episodes as major shows and
noteworthy events Dictate.

Speaker 6 (01:24:22):
And I'm Chris Lansdowe join us as we covered the
ever changing landscape of New Japan as they navigate an
era with no lack of talent.

Speaker 9 (01:24:30):
But I really need to create some news styles.

Speaker 6 (01:24:32):
You can stream the new seven Stop podcast now from
Pro Wrestling Torch.

Speaker 10 (01:24:46):
What's your next question?

Speaker 7 (01:24:46):
I think the question is about the wrestling Observer Hall
of Fame. Do you know anyone that's responsible for getting
the for that, like for a certain wrestler getting in.

Speaker 10 (01:25:03):
Do you mean do I know any of the voters.

Speaker 7 (01:25:05):
A writer, any your guests who some of these letters are.
It seems like it might be a Mexican influence, because
a lot of the Mexican wrestlers seem to get in.
There's like a good man it is to get in.

Speaker 4 (01:25:17):
The people who who vote for that, and they break
it down and you really only get to vote for
the categories that you kind of know about and are
aware about. For the most part, they try to limit it,
and but the pool is huge. I mean, I'm sure
that it's at this point in excess of you know,

(01:25:39):
a few hundred people that are casting votes.

Speaker 10 (01:25:42):
Yeah. I don't want to I don't want to put
you off really, but if you want to know about
the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame balloting process, there's a
guy who hosts on Friday who does that every year.
His name is Bruce Mitchell, and he could probably answer
those questions a lot better than I could. What else?

Speaker 7 (01:25:58):
And my final question is what's the great his sphotograph?
He's taken? In wrestling, like being a journalist for the newspaper.

Speaker 10 (01:26:07):
Okay, well that's for Scott. Scott. What's Scott, what's your
favorite wrestling photograph you've taken.

Speaker 8 (01:26:13):
I don't know, because you know, I'm not really known
for like my photographs on not like a Georgia Napoloitano
type or anything like that. But I mean I just
recall different memories of one of the few times that
I did like kind of like shoot at as you
could say, was the old MLW shows. I think were
great because they were just fun to see all these
guys even today like Sam Punk and but back then

(01:26:34):
like Steve Carino and Harry Funk and I'm sure becover
photographing that and some autograph signings now looking back now,
I really appreciate my time, you know at the Matra
man Ready Savage running autographs of this this support towards
the end of his career though, so he was promoting
his rap album just to put a time stamp on that.
And then also, uh, I think it was back with

(01:26:56):
Eddie Guerrero did a signing down here in South Florida,
a local cat and so just seeing Am interact with
the fans and just capturing those moments. I think that
was giving a good appreciation for it. But as far
as like taking photos, I'm not really predominantly known for that.
But you know, I look back at when I just
cover you know, these local events, these local autograph signings.
That's what I take from it.

Speaker 10 (01:27:18):
Okay, Yeah, Kevin, I know that you're also not primarily
a photographer. But is there anything that sticks out for you?

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
Well, I mean I guess, I guess for us or
for me, it would be things that happened. Well, there's
two things. One is we had done, you know a
number of XTW shows at the Grand Olympic Auditorium and
just seeing in that building and being able to you know,
produce and shoot in that building was such a fantastic place,

(01:27:49):
and so just the halls and the the history in
that building, it was really nice to shoot stuff there.
And then anytime i've I've done things in either Tijuana
or Mexico City, just you know, it's such a contrast
from all the other shows and events that you know,
I've either been to or or produced here in the

(01:28:09):
US that you know, I think a lot of times
when you've got unique situations or you've got situations that
you're not seeing every everywhere else. You know that that's
that's for me, It's been the most exciting kind of stuff.

Speaker 10 (01:28:23):
Okay, I probably need to go. I don't. I didn't really,
I don't really take a lot of pictures. I mean
I've got some around there, you know, from the various
shows I've done. I've been say I'm trying to think of.
Let's say I got some photos from my time in
the indie scene. I got probably should put some of
those up, including including the night the afternoon I got

(01:28:43):
to manage the hockey talk man, which was a which
was probably a bigger thrill for me than it was
for him. Let's say I got got some good photos
of got some good photos of when they Briscoes and
necro Butcher and man Ben Ponda were brawling in front
of me. That was fun. So yeah, yeah, I've got
a very nice photo of me with Allison Danger, which
was actually taken by Jigsaw, who was nice enough to

(01:29:06):
know it was nice enough to hold my camera and
do that for me. But you know, it's it's I
don't know, it's not not really a photography guide though,
so most of my pictures turn out, you know, kind
of crappy.

Speaker 7 (01:29:17):
Thanks Patt, Thanks Scott, Thanks Kevin.

Speaker 10 (01:29:20):
No problem. All right, Well Ryan drops off and that
opens up a line for you at six four six
eight h Thank you. PNW torchlivecast at gmail dot com
is the other way to reach us, and the chat room,
of course is open. We also put up poles every Wednesday.
Today is today's live cast poll is We asked what
match you're most looking forward to this weekend, and we

(01:29:42):
put up several options to choose from, and of course
there's a chance to write in your own. I don't
think we included everything that. Let's see what we have here.
It's as of an hour or so ago. All right,
reading the way, fifty eight percent of you are voting
for this Sunday Kevin Owens defending the Intercontinental title against

(01:30:02):
Dean Ambrose. Second place is a tie between the NXT
match tonight, which is Finn Valor Apollo Cruise against Samoa,
Joe and Baron Corbin, and the Big Wyatt Family versus
Team ECW Tables match also coming up on Sunday at TLC.
But we want your votes, so go ahead, PW Twitch

(01:30:23):
dot com cast your ballots now and we're back here
with Scott Fishman and Kevin Kleinrock guys. I mean, I
know that Kevin, this probably isn't your first topic of choice.
But as you might have heard, there is somewhat of
a crisis in WWE. The raw ratings have been on
the downswing for I don't know, fourteen or fifteen streat weeks.

(01:30:44):
They have lost a quarter of their viewers from this
time last year, and Vince McMann was reportedly very upset
by the fact that people were walking out of the
building during the main event segment. Of course, the main
event segment was Roman Reigns cutting a promo and then
sham Is coming out, but still still he felt hurt
and insulted by this. I don't know, Kevin, what what

(01:31:06):
do you think? I mean, you know, you keep track
of what's going on in other wrestling? What do you think?
What do you think is hurting WW? Right now?

Speaker 3 (01:31:14):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:31:14):
I keep track here as well, you know, I mean
I followed WW closely, you know, I don't. I don't
think what I have to say is anything that other
people aren't sitting here screening. I think that first off,
the format's got to change it's been the same format,
and you know, I think January first, or you know,

(01:31:35):
the first Monday in January is probably an excellent opportunity
for them to call it a season premiere, shake up
the format, and and just break the formula. You know,
they have so much that they can do, that they're
capable of doing, that they're not doing. You know, everyone
talks about it. The great video package you see on NXT.

(01:31:55):
Why aren't those being produced for talent that are on
the main roster. You know, the network has so much
great content and you're trying to sell the network. Why
can't you take five minutes a raw and say, this week,
we're going to highlight some of the best Rick Flair
matches of all time and do a mini countdown of

(01:32:16):
those matches, and don't show the full matches, but run
through the matches, give a clip or two of each,
and direct people to a playlist on the network. Why
can't we have more sit down interviews with you know,
Jim Ross or somebody where we can see some character
development and we can get a taste of something that's
not this horrific in ring obviously scripted promo. I just

(01:32:39):
think that the first thing is just shaking up how
things are being presented because it is the same formula
week in and week out. It's predictable, you know. Number
two I think is going away from from these horrifically
scripted promos. I mean, you know, everybody, not everybody, I
guess I should say, but a lot of people, you know,

(01:33:01):
took exception to the page and Charlotte incident, you know,
when mentioning a reed flair, and to me, while that
was done in bad taste, what bugged me probably even
more about the segment was Charlotte saying the title doesn't matter,
you know. Whatever else she said after that, it was

(01:33:23):
something like, you know the type of person you are,
how this or that? And I'm like, your champion's in
the ring saying the title doesn't matter. Why should anybody
in an audience give a crap then about your champion
and who the champions are and what This week? I
caught during the the Broms Stroman Tommy Dreamer match, you know,

(01:33:43):
Michael Cole throws out the line, you know, Bronz Strowman
shows no remorse, and it immediately jarred me because I'm
sitting here going, hey, Number one, that's a trait that
any heel should have. Every heeler on your roster should
be showing you or more. But more importantly, what have
you done through a match, through a vignette, through a promo,

(01:34:06):
through anything to actually show me this?

Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
Do you have?

Speaker 4 (01:34:09):
These announcers bring out all this hollow talk and I
think that you know, whether it's Vince or the writers,
they sit there and they know the storylines that they're
trying to get over in their heads, but there's no
development that the audience gets to see other than trying
to believe what the announcers are telling you about a
character or this or that. And it's such a toxic combination.

(01:34:31):
I think of the format and everybody being written the
same kind of cheesy dialogue, and they just kind of
need a whole you know there I say reset button,
because you know, I'm not saying to reset all of
these storylines and titles and all that, but they need
a fresh approach. I think in that, combined with a

(01:34:51):
hot angle or two, that's going to get people talking
outside of the people that are watching it today is
really what they need.

Speaker 10 (01:34:59):
Well, let's gotta be do you want to do your
rant first or where I can go first and give
you time to know. I mean, yeah, I mean there's
nothing that Kevin's Everything that Kevin said is true. You
know what what bothers me is, you know, I mean
the wwe have said. You know, they're they're very up.
They're obviously disappointed with the ratings they're putting out. You know,

(01:35:19):
they're sending out these surveys on social media. They're putting
them out on various social websites. I don't know, I
haven't seen anybody who you know, I haven't seen any
responses on social media on the web that say, you
know what I want to see. I want to see
a scripted twenty minute promo that goes nowhere. I haven't
seen any of that. I haven't seen, you know. And
but probably the thing that I think people are taking

(01:35:42):
for granted that it's such a turn off as you know,
we I mean, we've had the same heel authority figure
storyline for about eighteen years. But you know, I mean we,
you know, Jim Bally and I have been getting you know,
putting together our way back play like of the nineteen
ninety eight Survivor series. You know, I don't think I
don't think Steve Austin would worked out that well if
you had Steve Austin, you know, Gopher his big title

(01:36:04):
shot at WrestleMania, and then suddenly the Undertaker cashes in
his money in the bank briefcase and beats and beats
down Austin and pins him. And then Austin keeps trying
for several months and the McMahon keeps out winning him.
Then he wins the title for twelve seconds, and then
you know, the rock Cash is in another briefcase and
pins them. I mean, it's it's been the bad guys

(01:36:26):
in control for the vast majority of the last couple
of years. And you know, I you know, I know
that in wrestling, a lot of people believe, you know,
the money is in the chase for the title. But
you know now that it's pretty established that the stories
are are what you know, or what the wrestling promoters
come up with, you know, I mean, WWA always met WWE,
WWF always made their money, not off of the chase,

(01:36:48):
but off of you know, our good guy who's the champion.
He defends it, you know, you know, takes on to
bad guys and wins, and we're not playing any of that.

Speaker 4 (01:36:58):
I think too, though there's a difference between a chase
where you're building and building and building, then you were
accomplishing the goal. And what we've seen here with Roman Reign,
it's not about the chase. It's chase fail, chase fail,
chase fail. And I think even those you know, look,
you're building Roman Reign to replace John Cena. And what

(01:37:20):
I mean by that is he's gonna appeal to the
women and the kids. He's not gonna appeal to the
same fan as booing John Cena. And if that's the case,
then you're really having to get him over with the kids.
And how many times is this potential hero gonna have
to fail in front of those kids before the kids
are like, you know what, He's just not that cool,
He's just not that good. And I think with the

(01:37:42):
last loss to Seamus, I mean, that's what I saw,
and then to see him there in the ring, you know,
almost in tears, and it's just like, you're not but
he should have come in whenever it was and he
should be destroying people. And even you know, as much
as I think that, you know, you can blame the
writers and you can blame whoever. There was a very

(01:38:04):
particular moment watching the end segment of Raw last week,
and you know, they're they're, they're, they're brawn all over
the place. And then there's this moment where they're they're
at ringside and they're gone. I think they think they're
heading towards kind of the tables or whatever to set
up the spot for the end, and they're both walking.
You are setting up a main event for a pay

(01:38:26):
per view, and Roman reign there's no fire in him.
He is not chasing after Shamus. He is not showing
no mercy. Austin would not be walking around that ring.
You know. It's kind of hoping he catches up to
Shamus whenever he can. And I just think you don't
see the fire that that sells stories and sells promo.

(01:38:48):
I mean, the only to me when I watch, I
see that kind of a fire in his den Ambros,
and that's it. I don't see it in anybody else.
I don't see and and I think, you know, it's no,
it's no surprize. I think that, you know, when I
see d and Ambrose, I see flashbacks to you know,
Terry Funk, and I see flashbacks to the Piper, and

(01:39:09):
it's not surprising. Those guys were the ones that sold,
you know, stories and sold matches and sold the tickets.
And that's it's just missing. Not that everybody should be
the same, but between the fifty fifty booking, between everything,
it's just everybody's the same. Nobody has any fire. And
if the wrestlers aren't acting as if this fight, this match,

(01:39:33):
this title is the most important thing, why should we
at home think it is.

Speaker 1 (01:39:39):
One way that you can help us sustain our schedule
of putting out podcasts throughout the week is by giving
us a five star rating on Apple Podcasts. Just go
to Apple Podcasts and look for our weight Teller Prossing
podcast and weight Keller Prosing post show and give us
a five star rating. We hope you think we've earned
that score with our fast turnaround times and our quantity
and quality of wrestling analysis out the week. So take

(01:40:01):
a moment out for us and do us favor and
give us a five star rating and Apple Podcasts. That
helps us on search returns and helps us grow. And
if you want, you can add a few comments about
what you like about the programs in the comments section.
Thank you so much.

Speaker 10 (01:40:16):
Right, Well, I don't want to get the comments of
Scott from Miami in here hold on a moment, I
think I got.

Speaker 8 (01:40:23):
It, got you there, Yeah, sorry about that.

Speaker 10 (01:40:28):
No, I just wanted to give you the I mean,
we we we We've gotten out of rants and I
just wanted to give you the opportunity to say, to
talk about what's missing.

Speaker 8 (01:40:37):
Well, I forgive me if I repeat everything you guys
have just said. But I totally agree about that the format.
The format changing one of the main things. I think
it's like subtle changes that can make a world of difference.
I don't think change is going to happen overnight, but
even eliminating the opening promos every every Monday night, I
think that'll show people that you're trying to make an
effort to change things up.

Speaker 9 (01:40:57):
I think.

Speaker 8 (01:40:57):
I don't you know, as far as changing the look
of the show, I don't know that'll help also, but
just doing that, I think. And then you mentioned about
Roman Range and you hit the nail on the head.
I don't know why they keep, you know, incessantly trying
to make him be someone he's not trying to be
that Johnson the guy. He's not gonna be the guy
in the mic that kars At a guy or maybe
he will be, but if you give him the opportunity

(01:41:19):
to himself and not have him try to remember ing
for line, everything he's gonna say. The guy's probably under
so much pressure, and you know he's only been around
for a couple of years when you think of his
experience level and being put in these situations. And I
think as far as if you you just you saw
that the problems were in that whole end of segment show.
I mean they just went on and on and on,

(01:41:40):
and then all of a sudden, the fans actually started
to connect with them when they started fighting. And I
think that just shows you why, I mean, where they
can go with Roman rings. They basically have did wrong
with Roman rings ever since the roy rumble with Daniel Bryant,
and they were putting him in these situations where he's
not gonna get, you know, be this clear concise hero.
And I still believe even clear cut having like villains

(01:42:02):
and heroes, and I think you need that and I
and perfect problem going on is in the diva's division.
When you have page in Charlotte, I mean going jumping
back and forth and whether they're gonna whether we should
share them or boo them. I mean the whole Deva's division.

Speaker 4 (01:42:16):
There's no like.

Speaker 8 (01:42:17):
Clear cut character development. Yeah, they're getting more time in
the ring, but they're having meaningless matches though nothing really
matters in that sense. So I think I mean little
changes they can make, and it's things that we see.
I don't understand why they don't see it or they
fail to want to do anything about it, But I
think they're really gonna try to maybe try to do something.
Maybe the ratings don't matter as much of them as

(01:42:38):
much as subscription services as every to be network, So
if there's still the number three, you know, or the
number one show on cable TV, it's hard for them
to see that change needs to be done. But if
they see number dwindling up the network, then maybe they'll
try to change things. But looking forward to TLC, it's like,
you know, it's like what kind of developments someone can
throw a cruise control. But I will say this, so

(01:43:00):
playing you know, Devil's at it, they have been struck
with the injury bug a lot, so they've been kind
of forced to try to muddle or mutter around as
far as creative is concerned. But even having longer matches
and having decisive finishes can make a difference in what
I'm seeing, So you don't have to you know, it's
not reinventing the wheel as far as what you're gonna
as far as making things different, making things better. I mean,
it's honestly, you know, if we see O, why don't

(01:43:23):
think see it early?

Speaker 4 (01:43:24):
Well, you know, honestly, I think the answer to that
is and I could be wrong, but this is my
take on answer to that question. I think that one
they you know, back in the day, the number was
always thrown around, Oh, the internet audience is only ten
percent of our audience, and I think that they would
probably have to agree so bigger percent these days. But

(01:43:45):
I still feel like they think that the voices that
are out there, you know, the Pat McNeil, the Scott Fishman,
whoever else, that that is not representative of their true
core audience member. But the only way that they're pulling
or they're trying to figure out what their their true
core audience member wants is in these surveys that don't

(01:44:06):
make sense. You know, they're asking these questions like what
do you prefer interview segments or matches? Well, you know,
and I'm not the person to say, as the survey,
is it a really good interview or is it a
really crappy match? Like they're they don't have their pulse
on their audience, and they're ways of trying to figure
out who their audience is and what that pulse is.

(01:44:29):
I don't think are the ways they're really going to
figure out how to fix this problem.

Speaker 9 (01:44:34):
Yeah, and it's such a thing.

Speaker 8 (01:44:35):
They survey. They get a survey every show with the
fans with their response and a lack of response. Like
perfect case points is Monday Night Ira, which you can
hear a pin drop most of the segments, so that
can give them an idea of what's working and what's
not working. You have a guy like Dan Ambros who
you consistently, you know, bring down and have him get
beaked down at all, and fans still respond to him.

Speaker 4 (01:44:55):
Shouldn't that set.

Speaker 8 (01:44:56):
Up a you know, maybe I should push this guy
or you know, it's the star and stuff. Like you
mentioned the consistency of everything, but when they see people
leaving the venue, that should kind of be like, Okay,
maybe we're not doing any thing we can to get
people to stay because they're cad to be here, and
they don't want to be here. They want to leave
and make sure that they don't get stuck in traffic.
They'd rather you know, be in their car on their

(01:45:17):
way home than watch what we're gonna see at the
end of the show. So you know, there's a lot
of issues there. But yeah, these surveys are great, but
the main survey is the live audience, which should get
every week. So that's I don't know why.

Speaker 4 (01:45:29):
Yeah, I think that they all I mean, and again,
speaking from the outside, it seems to me like there's
always a there's always a way for them to go.
But it was this, for example, that live audience was leaving,
Oh but we were in this town or but the
TV audience, you know, that's different than the people that
were here live or this or that or whatever, and

(01:45:52):
it's always like there's that butt and it seems like
they're just not like you said. It doesn't have to
be a comple weeks overhaul of everything on the TV show,
but change up a little bit, test other segments, not
segments like this new Adam Rose thing and how the
hell that's making TV and even when it meet it

(01:46:14):
the first week, how the hell it means the second week,
I have no idea who is making the decisions that
that is what anybody in the audience, live or at
home wants to see.

Speaker 8 (01:46:26):
Yes, And perfect example is with New Day when you
let the guys be themselves an experiment. Like you said,
the New Day has been given the ball and the
fans have been responding to them, and they've been successful
because they're showing their characters because they're very much like
that off camera, and they're able to put that on camera.
So it's just something that clicks with the you know,
what's going on television. So that's just the perfect example
of So you're letting guys, you're giving the ball and

(01:46:49):
giving them creative freedom in this sense. But then you're
you know, you're giving a guy like Real Murray, you're
not trusting him enough to be on your show. If
you didn't trust him enough, the why I'm put on
the show in the first place, basically, But if you
if you believe even him, you know that he has potential,
then let him be himself and let him do what
he does best. I mean, even looking like a kind
of like Bill Goldberg, he was over, but not because

(01:47:09):
of his long answering promos because he just shored guys
and Roman reins are when he was doing that, and
now he's not. They kind of cut him off at
the legs and kind of and what's tray of Paul
Himan back in the day is because he accentuated that
the positives and kind of like hit the negatives, and
these guys are doing the complete opposite of what's been
going on with the last couple of weeks, last couple
of months.

Speaker 10 (01:47:30):
Right, Okay, I do want to get I do want
to get a few audience questions in. Let's uh, let's
see what we have. Let's see what we have here.
The adventure continues as we go to the chat room. Uh,
chat room question for Kevin, do you think the alien
invasion storyline Luca Underground is remembered to be doing is
a good idea?

Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
Okay?

Speaker 11 (01:47:50):
What I think?

Speaker 4 (01:47:52):
Okay, So first off, I don't think that there's really
an alien invasion storyline. Now maybe I could be wrong,
but I believe that I believe that the show might
have some more additional sci fi elements. I mean, I
encourage anybody to go and listen to any of the
podcasts or radio interviews that guys like CHRISTI Joseph have done,

(01:48:15):
you know, they the Blucha Underground world is such a
unique world, and which I think is what makes that
show so awesome is that it's not like anything else
on television, and it is. There's a whole other level
of the willing suspension of disbelief when watching that, you know,
when they're telling me that drive those are real dragon
and when they're having people you know, disappear in fireballs

(01:48:37):
or monsters like that's what makes that show what it
is and it should stay that way. I think that
the quote that got a little bit more twisted in
turn was was trying to reference the fact that I
think that there will will be more sci fi type elements,
but I don't I don't think I could be totally
wrong because I have no insider knowledge over there. But

(01:48:59):
I don't think it's a it's really an alien division
and certain things that that Chris and Joseph ended up
tweeting after that kind of rumor got out, Uh, I
think we're just kind of playing playing with the fans
who we're believing into that, tweeting little pictures of aliens
and and different things. I don't really think that there
will be, but I do believe that they should completely
stay in their direction of this is a drama, this

(01:49:21):
is a fantasy that happens to center around a wrestling promotion,
and we have these full, awesome wrestling matches. But we
are not a wrestling We are not ww we are
not TNA. We are not a wrestling show with you know,
instant replays and flashbacks and things like that.

Speaker 10 (01:49:38):
Yeah, I mean, you know, there's there's a place for that.
I mean obviously obviously you have Game of Thrones and
there's dragons there and magic and that sort of thing,
uh and any anything they add there scutt.

Speaker 8 (01:49:51):
Yeah, I totally agree. That's what fans of you know,
expected from Lucia. As long as they stay, you know,
they still have the great matches and still have that.
I'm okay with the over the top story, how because
that's the venue and that's the place that it fits
well with. So I think it'll, you know, it'll be
interesting to see what kind of stories they tell this
time around. But I think the production is amazing and
just the cinematic feel to it. I think I'm looking

(01:50:13):
forward to seeing what they do next now that they
have kind of like a built an audience and now
they're trying to grow as time goes on. So I'm
excited for the what they're doing. But as long as
they keep Bigfoot out of it, I think we're good.

Speaker 10 (01:50:25):
Well they yeah, and I think you know, you have
all these wrestling fans are saying, we want something different,
we want something different. If you if you watch season
one of Lucha Underground, it was different and not in
a bad way. I mean there, you know, I mean
there's probably some there might be some things you don't like,
but you know it's it's it is an entertaining show.
I mean, you know, it's not due, it's not New Japan.

(01:50:46):
Let's see what other what other questions do we have
in the the chat room here? Okay, this is one
for Scott Fishman from our man Chicky singer Chicky wants
to know other than your other than your soul. Who
do you feel is the greatest pro wrestling reporter?

Speaker 8 (01:51:02):
I don't know, it's a subjective, but uh, I appreciate
Bill After. I always am grateful for Bill After and
and uh because he gave me an opportunity to actually
get published in my you know, first magazine and ended
up being like the cover story. I think it was
like Total Wrestling magazine before it closed down. It was
actually the last issue with Eddie Guerrero on the cover.
So I was really grateful that he's always been really

(01:51:24):
cool to me, and just because of that, I think
I'll always I'll say Bill after and I read his
book recently and it's great. So and he's always, you know,
he always finds the positive it because you know, we're
always like, you know, this, this sucks and this is bad.
But he always, you know, he maintains his you know,
he always finds the goovin things, and I think I
respect that about him. And he's always, you know, he

(01:51:46):
doesn't want to the bridges at the same time, but
you know, there's a way of doing things, in a
way of reporting things, and I think, you know, he
does a good job of being balanced but also not
trying to blatantly bash or trash something because you know,
all the bad stuff like that. I'll have to deal
with him.

Speaker 10 (01:52:00):
I guess, Okay, we're gonna go back to the phones
here in a second. Want to remind everybody that coming
up at the bottom of the hour on most of
these blog talk radio stations, The East Coast Cast, Travis Bryant,
Bardar Pernell Uh will be uh, We'll be presenting the show.
Go to East coastcast dot com and listen live. And
I'm like this program, prinal discretion is advised. Let's see,

(01:52:21):
let's uh, I can ask the same question of Kevin. Kevin,
other than me, who do you think the greatest pro
wrestling of Portress?

Speaker 4 (01:52:28):
You know, Honestly, for me, it's about what I'm looking for.

Speaker 10 (01:52:31):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:52:32):
You know, I I one, I too love Bill after
you know, I when I finally got to meet Bill
uh after growing up reading his magazines and you know,
sending in letters to magazines. Uh, it was really a
great experience. I have not read the book yet, but
I definitely plan on reading it. And I never really
thought about it, but I love what Scott just said

(01:52:53):
about Bill's positivity. You know, I think that that's obviously
there's always got to be somebody who can can be
you know. I try to try to show the positive
when everyone else is kind of breaking down the negative.
But you know, yeah, for me, it's just really been different.
You know, I grew up and really as I was
developing my career in this business. I read Fortune and

(01:53:14):
I read Observer, and so you know, when it came
to super super detailed business analysis, you know, I enjoyed
reading Meltzer when it came to give it to me
in a more simple way and but update me on everything.

Speaker 2 (01:53:28):
And give me the news.

Speaker 4 (01:53:29):
You know, I like reading you know, Wade stuff, And
so I think it really depends on what specifically, you know,
I was I was looking for, you know, in a
particular moment.

Speaker 10 (01:53:42):
Yeah, I think that I think that does have a
lot to do with it. And uh, you know, I
mean there's you know, it's it's kind of hard to
do just it's kind of hard to do a newsletter
or or a magazine like The Laughter did because everything,
you know, it's it's the Internet. Everything is very up
to the minute.

Speaker 4 (01:53:57):
Now.

Speaker 12 (01:53:59):
I'm Kelly Wells, host of PWT Talks NXT, the longest
running NXT podcast anywhere. Join me along with Nate Lindberg,
Bruce Lee, Hazelwood, and special guests live every Tuesday night,
just minutes after NXT, where we cover the good, the bad,
and the ugly on the way to becoming a star

(01:54:20):
in WWE. Check us out live on YouTube or stream
later wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 4 (01:54:33):
I do want to mention that we just launched the
first monthly English language lootch libra magazine called Rudo Camp Sail,
and we were working with a number of great writers
and we're covering everything from Triple A and CML and
Lucha Underground to independents that are doing to libra throughout
the world. We've got contributors. The first issue that is

(01:54:57):
almost sold out. But back in nineteen ninety four in
the Pro Wrestling Torch yearbook, Wade did this incredible fifteen
page interview with Conan, and so Wade gave us permission
to reprint some of the article, some of the original
interview in our first issue, and then we did an
interview now with Conan talking about looking back at that

(01:55:20):
you know certain things he said, then, you know how
he feels things has changed, how things has stayed the same.
And so I encourage anyone who wants to check that
out to go to Lucashop dot com and pick up
Rudo Can't Fail, or go to Rudaucantfail dot com and
you can actually hear the whole hour plus interview that
we did with Colan about that. In nineteen ninety four

(01:55:41):
Torch Doc.

Speaker 10 (01:55:42):
Okay, that's definitely, yeah, if yeah, definitely. If you haven't
read the original one, go definitely check out Rudo's Can't
Fail and it will be interesting to hear some of
what Conan has to say today. Let's see next question
from the chat room. Oh boy, this is gonna be
good idea. Okay, here we go. Whose idea was it

(01:56:02):
for right back to become a high flying wrestler with
drop kicks off the second rope and tow pays and
that sort of thing. I'm gonna go with. It wasn't
my idea, but yeah, that that's a That's another problem
I think with with modern wrestling, as guys feeling the
need to, you know, feeling the need to be in
that cookie cutter mold where you can do these offensive moves.

(01:56:23):
Right back. Right back shouldn't have to right back shouldn't
have to be doing topeys. I mean, if he wants to,
if he wants to do one for you know, if
he wants to do one on a pay per view
just for shock value, that's fine, but it shouldn't, you know,
this really shouldn't be part of what this guy does
on a regular basis. I think Scott totally agree with you.

Speaker 8 (01:56:40):
I mean, you're I mean, I get, I get you
want to try different moves and be different. But look
what happened when brock Lesner tried to do that at WrestleMania.
Things didn't go very well. So I think maybe sticking
to you restraints would be good, and especially if you
know it's going to be dangerous, because that looks really
scary on Monday with what's going on. I mean, accidents happened,
but you know, yeah, I don't even.

Speaker 4 (01:56:57):
Know why he would want to do that.

Speaker 8 (01:56:58):
And then that size, I mean people that usually do
those high flying moses because you know, you're the smaller guy,
so you're you know, you have these athletics, you know,
do these abilities. I guess you want to show off.

Speaker 4 (01:57:07):
A little bit.

Speaker 8 (01:57:08):
I don't know what the what happened that night, but
I don't know if he's gonna do it again now
after that, Yeah, and.

Speaker 10 (01:57:14):
You know, I mean, I I mean, big show was.
You know, Paul White was able to do moon salts
in nineteen ninety five when he first debuted in WCW.
They made the crazy decision not to have him do
them and to be a giant instead. I I mean,
I I think that, you know, I think that having
different styles and having you know, everybody not be the
same type of wrestler is Yet it used to be

(01:57:35):
part of what made wrestling interesting and exciting and I've
done right.

Speaker 8 (01:57:39):
I mean, although it was because he could do those moves.
I guess Vader is the exception of the rule when
you look at I mean, but he's not doing like
summersaults and things like that. He did moon salt and
things like that, but not anything like a pay off
the ropes or something like Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:57:52):
Also, Vader didn't win matches with that move. I mean
that was that was something Yeah, Yeah, well it wasn't
It wasn't really, I mean, it wasn't like it was
his finisher. I don't know. Yeah, I think that, you know,
I think I think different styles may make for better
wrestling sometimes. All right, let's let's see what else we

(01:58:13):
have here. Okay, six four, six, seven, eight is the
you know, is the other way to reach us. Let's see, Scott,
you talked briefly about, uh, you talk briefly about uh,
you know, some of the indie stuff that's going on there.
Is there any word of is t A gonna be
Is there any word is whether TNA is gonna end
up coming back to Orlando at some point or is that?

Speaker 8 (01:58:35):
I mean, I haven't heard as far as pass what's
going on with the pop you know, TV tapings, But
if they do come back, I hope it's you know,
I mean, as I don't know how much. You know,
I know it's expensive to tour, but I I mean,
it would be good if they just if they kept
going on, you know, as far as doing different areas,
because I think that was one of the things that
they became complacent as far as the crowds reactions, and

(01:58:55):
you know, they were kind of like almost spoiled it
almost like almost like the NXT.

Speaker 4 (01:58:59):
Crowd is going.

Speaker 8 (01:59:00):
I mean a lot of people aren't appreciating the NXT
crowd because they're quote trying to put themselves over before
the show. But you know, they're actually you know, they're
excited about the product and things like that, which is
totally different than you know, Teenage during the and there
was a point where the fans were really invested in
the teenag product in Orlando, but things started to go down,
you know, Hill, I guess at times and then it

(01:59:20):
became like a touristy thing. So I mean as much
as for myself, I would like it because it's only
a four hour drive for me. It's a Universal Studios,
so that's that's a fun venue to be at. I'm
sure they will be doing more tapings there, but I
hope it's not like predominantly there basically. But I haven't
heard anything as far as anything past January.

Speaker 10 (01:59:41):
Okay, yeah, they got the tapings in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Kevin,
have you heard anything exciting about other than the alien invasion?
About what we're what we're going to see from Luke
Underground in January?

Speaker 4 (01:59:56):
Let's see, there is definitely talent debuting. There is some
really good talent, talent that a lot of fans who
are aware of, uh, you know, Triple A and and
the potential of who might get called up, you know,
people that that they've been saying they want to see.

(02:00:18):
And then also I think there's at least one indie
name that might not really be on the people's radar,
but I've certainly been singing his praises for a number
of years now, and looks like he's going to end
up there in a pretty pretty big role. I'm sorry
that I'm not giving more away right now, but uh,

(02:00:39):
I have been called by their lawyers before for a
tweet on a dark match, so we're going to uh
keep it of that, but definitely, uh, you know, keeping
keeping in line with you know, the great talent they
had last season. I think that there's just some really
good names coming in for for the new season, and
I expect the entering product to be, you know, just

(02:01:00):
it's not better than the first season.

Speaker 10 (02:01:02):
All right, we're going we're going to try this again.
I don't know why. We're gonna go to the three
four seven area code. Three four seven. Please state your
name of town, your live cast where Scott and Kevin
Jonathan for New York the Tom start? Is that Jonathan
Jonathan from New York?

Speaker 9 (02:01:16):
Yeah, okay, I'm sorry about before. Is that I got
terrible signal in my workplace?

Speaker 10 (02:01:25):
Okay, no problem. What are you quote? What's your question?

Speaker 9 (02:01:27):
Well, uh, well I got I got a question about
the current product, and uh, you know the storyline between
Roman and Shamans. So so let's say for some reason,
Shamus keeps the bell in tail. See that's most likely
what's gonna happen. How so it's going to be another
rematch of the Ramble. But how do you think that

(02:01:53):
w W can pull out a miracle between Royal Ramble
and building a WrestleMania pay per view around the Belt?
Because I don't see it. I don't see like, I
don't I got to be honest, I don't see like
a good paper going into WrestleMania with everybody right. Yeah,

(02:02:13):
well we'll.

Speaker 10 (02:02:16):
See that's the thing. They are going to have brock
Lesner back. I expect that Undertaker will be back for
the push to WrestleMania. John Cena should be back for January.
So I mean, I don't know that, you know. I mean,
I think they will put together at least one marquee
match that people will want to see, But I don't
know that it's going to be the title match, you
know what I'm saying?

Speaker 2 (02:02:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (02:02:38):
Yeah, because I mean, I mean, all the people who
are you know, the rumors that they want to do
John Cena versus Undertaker this year. If they do that match,
that's it's going to overshadow whatever is going on with
the Belt.

Speaker 9 (02:02:50):
Yeah, because I've been having the book in that j R.
Wants to do. He wants to put the belt in
Sena and then Sina competes against undertake it. I'll be
like a decent you know, but at the end of
the day's not gonna make sense because if you bake
Baking the beat again, why are you going to do
another tournament? And we already saw the match that.

Speaker 10 (02:03:09):
They did yeah before, you know, Yeah, if they do
that match, I don't think it's going to be for
the title. Let's see. Well, well, I'm going to get
another opinion. Okay, thank you. Let me get some other
opinions here. I mean, we're coming up on the end
of the hour, and if you're U and those of
you listen live, be sure to check out Jim Ross
tomorrow the rest of you. All of this will be

(02:03:31):
available for download after we're done here. Scott, what do
you think? What do you think about for WrestleMania. I
think I think he's got a point that, you know,
a WrestleMania built around Seamus and or Roman Reigns wrestling
for the title might not be great, But there's you know,
but I think there's other there's other ways probably interesting.

Speaker 8 (02:03:48):
Yeah, I mean, I think at this point, I think
they're gonna try to draw on a nostalgia level. I
don't know who they're going to ring in or you know,
you hear stories about Rock not being available, on the
Rousing not being available, Seth Rawlins being injured, but I
don't know. I don't see Seamus being a long term champion,
and I feel like between now and even at the
Roy Rumbles, something that will take place where I mean

(02:04:08):
they're gonna build. I don't know if it's Roman Rangins
it's going to win the title or not, but definitely
brock Lesner will be put in the mix. As far
as the championship match, I believe moving forward, if they're
going to go the way they are with Undertaker and
uh John Cena and then I don't know where they're
gonna put with Triple H now because it was supposed
to be you hear stories, but if with Triple H,

(02:04:29):
if he's going to be facing who's going to face
the Rock and now that's out the door? Is he
going to be facing Seth? Wrong, that's at the door,
I mean even face Roman Reigns. I guess moving forward,
they kind of hinted at that a little bit leading
into the push for the Survivors series. And then as
Survivor Series, so that I could see that being a
good man a big match for doing those two. I
don't see Seamus holding the title going into WrestleMania. That's

(02:04:50):
one thing I mean moving forward, I don't know who's
gonna win it, but the focus will definitely be on
brock Lesner, and I guess they're gonna you know, of course,
with Undertaker, I don't know who they're to put him with.
I guess seen it would be the one choice, a
match we haven't seen very much in a long time,
so they could build that to established names that fans
that don't watch the products all the time, can you know,

(02:05:13):
it will resonate with them, So that'll be a match
that would draw. So I don't know, but it's one
hundred thousands or on a hundred thousand people. It's just,
you know, it's the worst time for them to get
caught with the injury bug though.

Speaker 10 (02:05:23):
Yeah, I guess I guess it is Kevin.

Speaker 4 (02:05:26):
Yeah, and I think I agree with everything that Scott said.
I mean, the one thing I keep hearing over and
over is Vince wants Roman to have his WrestleMania moments.
He wants Roman to win at WrestleMania. And I just
don't see how there's a money drawing match it's going
to make that happen, you know, Are you going to
put the belt on Brock at the Rumble and then

(02:05:47):
have him drop it to Roman a few months later?

Speaker 9 (02:05:49):
I just don't.

Speaker 4 (02:05:49):
That's not a good use of Brock. I don't. I
don't think and Famous and and and you know, Rains
on top or even if the title match is not
very exciting. Though, my feeling is that the company completely
overestimates the public's, you know, opinion of Shamous anyway. And
I understand the thought was put it on Shamous and

(02:06:10):
make people hate him more than they hate Roman Reigns.
And I guess that, But I yeah, I don't. I
don't know what the hell they're going to do. I
think it's gonna have to be this ensemble, you know,
ensemble card where it's not just about one match. It's
going to have to be bringing in a few, you know,
the big names and putting together a number of things
on top. I guess, at this point, with the roster

(02:06:32):
being as low as the displace, will wrestle be it
against Rains or be it against somebody else. But I'm
thoroughly both from you know, as as someone who looks
at the business of pro wrestling and as a fan
of pro wrestling. I would not want to be sitting
where they are right now, and I am very intrigued
to see what what they actually do over the next
few months.

Speaker 10 (02:06:53):
Yeah, it is going to be interesting. We'll sort of
wrap that up there, guys. I do want you to
