Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's Football Friday and time for the weekend's action. Here's
but best bets.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
It is that time we go through our best bets.
Three best college plays, three best NFL plays. Marco DiAngelo
in studio TC Martin here at the Gambridge field House
in Indiana, getting ready for the Aces in the Fever
game number three, and of course from parts unknown, the
(00:27):
One and Only Trevor manage his ESPN duties already underway,
and catch Trevor on the sports centers and the college
football finals everywhere. He's on every ESPN platform. What's going on, brother?
How you doing, Trevor?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
See?
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Yeah, I'm not going to tell you where I am
right now, but I will give you a clue for
Internet salute. I'm looking up right now. I see a
palm tree and a pine tree and a castis.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
So you can figure out where I am. Then you
are amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
You're in the lane of television, my friend.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
That's where you are with a green screen, and that's
where you're It sounds like a studio right there, my friend.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
There it is no TV.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
I can't put one on the TV radio guy, that's
for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I love it. I love it. Trevor mattis, give us
your best three? What do you got? College? Oh play
for NFL College.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Malan j ok So Colloyde.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
So LSU is at Old miss An Old Miss is
laying one and a half one point five, and I
like Old Miss to cover that.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
LSU right now is doing great.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
They're undefeated, but their two best wins are against Clemson
and Florida. Turns out Clempson and Florida are combined two
and six right now, and their wins are against Troy
and Long Island of the SCS, So those two teams
don't look as quite as impressive a win for LSU.
(01:53):
So even so, LSU's offense has been struggling a bit.
LSU's defense has looked really good, but I don't know
how good they are because I don't know how good
Cleanston and Florida's offenses really are. What I do know
is that Old Missus.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Offense is fantastic. And when they're.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Starting quarterback Austin Simmons got hurt and Trinidan Chambliss came in,
he has been a revelation as a dual threat quarterback
in this offense has been ripping off all kinds of
big plays left and right.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Now can know as you stop that I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
But as I look at this, I look at ole
Miss at home, and I look at a questionable defense
for ole Miss, a defense that I don't trust LSU,
and only one offense that I like, and I'm only
laying a point in half at home.
Speaker 5 (02:39):
Give me ole.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Miss, then only go to that Penn State. Penn State
is playing three and a half, and I liked the
Nitney Lions in this one.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
There are a moans and flaws on.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Both of these teams. Neither one has played a decent schedule.
For Penn State, the fall is that they haven't been
able to connect down the field at all in the
passing game, not at all, but they have been dominant
in the running game with one of the best offensive
lines in college football and with one of the best
running back rooms in college football. In Oregon, for all
(03:11):
their flashy impressiveness this year, has not been very good
at run defense, especially outside zone. I mean, even Oregon State,
Northwestern or Oklahoma State had success running outside zone against
Oregon's defense.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
Well, guess what Penn State's going to do.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
And also, you've got the quarterback for Oregon, Dante Moore
has been lighting it up, just one of the best
statistical quarterbacks in the nation so far, but he hadn't
played anybody and his only road game was at Northwestern
in a soccer stadium with twelve thousand people in it.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
I mean, now.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
He's going to wide out in Happy Valley with over
one hundred thousand screaming fans. How will he do in
his fifth start ever as an Oregon Duck quarterback? And
so you know, I like Penn State to take over
in the running game in this one. Oregon will make
some plays, but I think Penn State, with the quality
of their defense to slow down the big place from Oregon.
(04:05):
With the running attack that they'll be able to I
think have success with. And with the advantage that playing
at home in a wide out gives the Niitney Lions,
I like them to lay the points that Ohio State
is at Washington and Washington's getting seven and a half.
I like the Huskies in this one. Part of it
is at home. Washington has one twenty two straight games.
That's a sneaky hard place to play in some ways,
(04:27):
a sneaky difficult place, impossible place to win recently, and
Ohio State might not be as unbeatable as it appears.
They get a lot of credit for their win in
the opener against Texas, but we've seen Texas' offense is
not very good right now, and it was that it's
worse in the opener when it went up to play
at Columbus. And so, yeah, IIOW States is really good,
(04:48):
but how good are they really? Well?
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Guess what.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
On defense, They've done a lot of good things, but
they also are not dominant right now in run defense
the and Washington is actually very very good at running
inside zone and outside zone, which are two things that
had been that have made Ohio State defense a bit vulnerable. Plus,
when you talk about quarterback plus wide receiver, top wide
(05:14):
receiver plus top running back, those triplets for Washington that
may be the best trio at those positions in the
entire Big Ten. I think Ohio State will probably win
this game, but I think that Washington will be able
to keep it close. Another thing that makes me feel
good I see I'm trying to learn as much as
I can from Marco, is that there's heavy action from
(05:36):
the public on Ohio State, heavy, heavy, heavy action on
Ohio State. So Marco told me to look twice at
the other side, so I look twice at Washington and
I'm picking him.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
It's funny you bring up Marco's name, because I was
not ready to say. You know, from our earlier segment,
I think you and Marco might be drinking out of
the same water cooler right there. So go ahead, Marco
hit us up.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
I like two of his three plays for sure at
Penn State. In the Washington plays, I like those ones.
But for my best bets TC, I'm gonna start it
off with a game under the radar, and I'm gonna
take Appalachian State plus the sixteen sixteen and a half
against Boise State. The reason for this is they've had
(06:19):
two weeks to prepare for this game. Boise is in
what I like to refer to as a big time
sandwich spot. They're coming off a conference game the week before,
playing a non conference game the week before. They get
to play Notre Dame next. That's a huge look ahead
spot for them. I'm gonna go ahead. I'm gonna take
(06:41):
Appalachian State. I don't think they're gonna go into the
blue field and win outright, but I think they're gonna
give them their money's worth and all they can handle.
So give me the sixteen and a half points with
Appalachian State. For play number two, I'm gonna go with Illinois,
and I think people are going to overreact to them
just getting you know, boat raced last week against Indiana.
(07:06):
Signetti never took his foot off the gas, ran up
the score, and Illinois is an embarrassed team. I always say,
give me the better defense getting points. Southern cal I
don't trust them as a road favorite coming into Illinois.
I think this is gonna be one of those games
that's gonna come down to the wire and be decided
(07:28):
by a late field goal. And I'm gonna go with
Illinois to pull the upset on USCS. And the last
one last week, I liked Kansas against West Virginia. Why
because they caught West Virginia in a horrible spot. West
Virginia was coming off that come from behind win against
a pit in the backyard brawl. So I'm throwing out
(07:51):
that forty one to ten win. You're gonna see a
Kansas team that I think is gonna struggle defensively to
stop Cincinnati. Cincinnati is another one those teams that you
know looking forward to this game had prep time. They
were coming off a blowout of their own. They haven't
played a tough schedule. Cincinnati, we don't know how good
(08:11):
they are. The only thing we have to measure them
by was they only lost by three to Nebraska and
that opener at Arrowhead. But I think this team is
better than what their schedule says they are their record,
and I don't think Kansas is as good as they are.
So give me Cincinnati plus the points and I'm calling
(08:32):
for the upset.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
All right, Well, I'm gonna start bright and early tomorrow.
I'm in Indiana Territory, guys, So I'm going with the Irish.
Irish are traveling to Arkansas one of those rare, weird
type of games. But the Irish have been counted out
by for the college football Playoff by so many people
and it's only week five.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Hold your role, baby, Come on, baby.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Losses were to two top ten teams in Miami and
Texas A and M. And that's foolish to think that
the Irish are done yet. Yes, the Irish are on
a mission. They've got arguably the best running back tandem
in the country at Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price. Plus
they got quality wide receivers and the quality tied end. Yes,
you know, car may not be there yet, but he's okay.
(09:17):
And then I think, you know, the Irish defense. They're
getting a lot of flak for what happened last week. Okay,
maybe a little bit of a concern, but you are
playing Arkansas and I'm really banking on the Irish moving
the ball on the Arkansas defense.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
That Arkansas defense is terrible.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
They gave up forty one to Ole Miss and a
backup quarterback a couple weeks ago, thirty two to Memphis
against a mediocre quarterback. I think the Irish make a
statement here. They're laying three and a half. I will
take the Irish tomorrow and then also the big game
in the SEC, Georgia and Alabama. Alabama has wins the
(09:52):
last week against a very bad Wisconsin team. Have they
forgotten how bad they've looked against Florida.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
State two weeks earth.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Alabama is not a top tier team, especially on the
road between the hedges. Georgia is better on both sides
of the football, and they're better on the sidelines. I'll
take Kirby Smart over Caleb de Boor any day of
the week. And twice coming up on this Saturday. All right,
all that, plus it's a revenge game, that's right. Remember
last year, I certainly do. Alabama beat Georgia forty one
(10:24):
to thirty four in one of the wildest games of
the entire season, maybe one of the wildest games we've
ever seen. Alabama had twenty eight to nothing, only to
see Georgia come back and take the lead thirty four
to thirty three on a seventy five yard touchdown pass
on blown coverage by Georgia with two minutes to play
in the game. The Dogs came back all right, and
(10:45):
they were ready to win the game in the final minute,
but Carson Beck, who had a disastrous day.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Through an interception in the end zone.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Georgia has had had four turnovers in that game, and
Beck was downright awful. But guess what, guys, not this Saturday.
Uh uh, Georgia gets revenge. George is the better team.
I'm tired of hearing about Alabama. Uh Uh, it's Georgia.
And then finally Trevor, I hope I'm gonna make you
happy brother BYU and Colorado, I'm laying with the road favorite.
(11:17):
In Trevor's Cougar's another rematch from last year the Alamo
bull Remember, coach Brime had his entire roster available to him,
He had Shador Sanders, he had Travis Hunter.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
All right, what happened?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
BYU blew him out thirty six to fourteen, and the
game was even more lopsided than that. Right, they made
them look silly. Sanders draft stock plummeted because of that game.
This year BYU is better than last year's BYU version.
Colorado is worse than Colorado's team from last year. So yes,
I think result though more of the same Coug's role.
(11:54):
What do you think, Trev.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
And I think that's a bold call, right Dad? That
Bowl game between by in Colorado last year, BYU's defense
didn't throw the same look twice at Shdor standers in
the first half. I mean they came from every different
angle differently every single time, and Chor was not only
back on his heels, he was never able to really
recover in the second half. And the key players for
(12:20):
BYU are back. They are disruptive, They come from every
different direction unexpectedly with great and I mean great athletes.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
So this BYU defense, Kaytan Salter is going to.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Look at what happened to Shador in the Bowl game
last year. He'll try to solve them, but good luck
doing that because they will be everywhere.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
All right, Trev, give us your three best NFL real
quick as we roll on here.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Okay, Packers at the Cowboys laying six and a half,
and I like Green Bay in this one just because
Cowboys their defense is just awful, especially their past defense
historically awful. Now some of that's in some of that
talent and things like that, but I mean in the
last two weeks, they are the last two games they
(13:05):
allowed Russell Wilson and Caleb Williams to have career days.
I mean, Russell Wilson threw for four hundred and fifty
yards against the Cowboys. And so here comes the Packers offense.
I think they're going to be able to move the
ball up or down the field. That will and if
they force the Cowboys to throw, which I think they will,
here comes Michael Parson's former Cowboy now rushing his former quarterback,
(13:27):
Dak Prescott, against an offensive line that has not shown
it's very good. I just see the Packers covering six
and a half with some comfort. Then I want to
go with two totals because once again, I think I'm
three and two on totals right now, and Marco, you know,
he needs me to get underwater on totals so he
(13:48):
can laugh at me for picking so many. So I'm
gonna start with the Chargers at the Giants. The total
is forty three point five. The Giants are starting a
rookie quarterback for the first time, Jackson. They're not very
good on offense, and their defense. The Giants has actually
kind of picked up the pace a little bit. They've
improved on the back end. They've been generating a lot
(14:09):
of pressure, and they'll be going against the Chargers offensive
line that's banged up. I really see the Challengers wanting
to protect their quarterback, win this game and get on
out of there. And I see the Giants for the
rookie quarterback, not being able to get a whole lot done.
So I'm picking the under there. And then my other
total is another under. This is Tennessee at Houston. Houston
(14:33):
has made the under in all three games this year,
and I picked them on two of them, and I'm
gonna ride with them again. That the Titans aren't even
the worst offense in this game. Houston is the worst
in the NFL. Titans offense is second worst in the NFL.
Houston's star receiver Nico Collins is either questionable or out,
(14:53):
one of the two that he's on the injury list.
There the Titans don't have their right tackle JC Latham.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
He's out with injury.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
And I just don't see either team being able to
sustain drives and get a whole lot done.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
Not because the opposing defense is that good from a.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Standpoint of Houston's offense, but because houston just can't sustain rives.
I think Houston's defense is fantastic. I don't think the
Titans will do much to contribute to the total.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
I like the unders.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
All right, Marco D'Angel, what you got for Sunday and Monday.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Well, I'm gonna start with one. You're gonna need to
hold your nose when you go to the window because
this one is smelly. I am taking the New York
Giants plus the six and a half against the Chargers,
and I know TC is gonna give me flak taking
these bad teams. This is an absolutely horrible spot for
the Chargers. They're coming off opening the season up three
(15:42):
and zero against all three of their division rivals. They've
got such a stranglehold on the division right now, I
am going to fade them going across country to play
an NFC team. Oh, I say it all the time.
The least important game on it teams schedule when you
get to the Tide Rakers are a road non conference games.
(16:06):
I'm gonna take the Giants. Let the Jackson Dart Era
begin and for Trevor, hopefully they don't score many points
and keep you under the total there and we're both
happy for play number two. I'm gonna go to my
Pittsburgh Steelers. Don't call me a homer because I went
against them the first two weeks in Gash. This is
(16:26):
the week I'm gonna go ahead and take them. This
line opened up Pittsburgh minus one and a half. And
everybody's overreacting to the forty eight to ten blowout that
Minnesota had last week. Hey, it wasn't Minnesota looking that great.
It was Cincinnati looking that bad. Five turnovers last week
for the Bungles against Minnesota, Carson Wentz. Hey they got
(16:51):
to win the first week. I always say about the
injured player theory, the team rises to the occasion, but
there's a part two to that. I go against injured
team if they got to win in the first game
without the star. And one last thing about Carson Wentz.
There's a reason he's on his six team in six years.
(17:12):
We'll see that in Dublin. We'll go Pittsburgh plus the
three and for the last one, Kansas City and Baltimore.
You know, it's the marquee game of the week. Struggled
with this at the beginning, but at the end of
the day, I got Patrick.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
Mahomes as a home underdog.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Okay, this Baltimore team, everybody said on paper they're the
best team in football coming into the season. There's just
something not right with this defense. I am gonna go
with the better defense getting points at home. And Casey
gets a weapon back this week with Lexander Worthy, who'll
have some targets to throw to that'll help the offense.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Go Chiefs, all right, And I'm gonna say fly Eagles, Fly,
Philly keeps and people hate it. They don't like the
tush push because they're so good at it, right Marco
ninety six percent. Drew Brees says their offense is boring.
Come on, man, give me a break.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
What do they do? They win? They just keep on winning.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
And Tampa Bay has been extremely lucky in all three wins,
all come from behind wins. Atlanta three point victory, Houston
a one point victory, the Jets two point victories.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Look at these teams. Who's they beaten too? Atlanta, Houston
and the Jets? Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Add injuries everywhere? Offensive line, defensive line. Now, Baker Mayfield
is hurt. He's got a bad bicep in his throwing arm.
Mike Evans is out his favorite target, best wide receiver,
Fly Eagle Fly. In Tampa Bay, Rams and Indy Colts
are getting a lot of love, but they're another phony.
Three to zero team wins against Miami, Denver, and Tennessee.
(18:54):
On the road, they face their toughest opponent in the Rams.
The Rams coughed up when last week in Philly. They're
gonna remember that Matt Stafford should be able to carve
up this Indie defense while the Rams defense will be
locked in against Daniel Jones. So I like Daniel Jones too,
but hey, the narrative may change at the beginning of
next week, saying okay, well, wait a minute about Daniel Jones. Yeah,
(19:16):
Rams at home, laying a very small price at three
and a half here, and I'm with Trev green Bay
over Dallas mismatch. Packers are coming off an embarrassing loss,
shut out Cleveland for the first fifty seven minutes and
then they fell apart in the final two forty five.
They're gonna learn from that. Dallas is a mess on
both sides of the football. Packers defense will give Dak
Prescott fits. No CD LAMB in this game. He's out,
(19:39):
he's injured. Dallas has given up more huge yards and
huge plays in all three games. The Packers will take
care of business here. You can lay it on the road,
all right. Those are our best bets. They're up on
the website at TC martinshow dot com, as well as
our other handicapper, extraordinary Scott Spreutzer. The quarterback Jay Schrader's
(19:59):
up there the intern as well,
