up on yesterday's discussion of Florida and Yukon, Trig and
Rob we said we thought Yukon would take money at
four and a half, they have in fact taking money.
I'm seeing five five and a half's now pop on
the odd screen as we speak, so I guess we've
already said one correct thing in that breakdown. Hopefully the

game kind of plays out the way we thought it
would as well.

So again, we did that yesterday just to make more
room for a bigger slate today. So let's make the
future game. You know, I'm partial to conference play. I
get sick of these non conference games. Come December, I'm
running for some conference play. So let's go to the
Big Ten because we've got conference action in the Big
Ten tonight, Ohio State Illinois, Rob kick us off.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
How are you seeing this one?

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Well, obviously, guys, this is a tremendous game. Just start
with the matchups here, and if you go head to head,
it can't get any better than Kylon Boswell against Bruce Thorton.
It can't get any better than Ivasich tomaslav Iovich, the
big center for Illinois against Christopher Tilley, the X Santa

(02:49):
Clara center, who actually was a little bit questionable on
Saturday but did play some minutes against Northwestern. Mirkovich against
Noel All up and down the line, guys, the starting
five matchup really really close. I don't know that you
can find any separation in there. I think right behind
the separation is on the bench. I really like the

(03:12):
six and seven off the Illinois bench. Now that they're
healthy with big Z the other Ivasich and also Ben
humrikous guys who are veteran guys who can score, guys
who can defend, I think they've got a little bit
of an edge there. The Ohio State advantage, obviously is
the home floor for their season home opener. They did
play Northwestern as a Big Ten opener, but that was

(03:33):
on the road. Got that victory, as I mentioned, with
Tilly playing some limited minutes, But schedule wise, the advantage
in scheduling has to go to Illinois. They have been
through the riggers and they've been through it with injuries. Right,
they finally come around to being fully healthy, but they
went through some very very tough games Texas Tech, Alabama, Yukon, Tennessee.

(03:56):
You can't get a better four than that to play,
so they're ready for Ohio State. Ohio State has not
really done the same guys, and I wonder They've got
some very very gaudy offensive statistics number one in the
country in two point percentage, but you have to wonder
if the schedule hasn't helped and contributed to that. I mean,
they've played Notre Dame Pittsburgh and Northwestern. That's the best

(04:18):
of the best that they face so far. Otherwise not much,
and they haven't played real potent offenses like the Illinois
one an IU Indy scored one hundred and two against them,
come back give up eighty two to Northwestern. So when
they played teams that can score, it hasn't been great defensively.
That's where I kind of tried to separate this game

(04:42):
from a total perspective and let me just go back
here where total is concerned and say this, this total
started at one fifty five. If you go through Illinois games,
you're gonna find out that Illinois is an under team
all season long, right, seven and two to the under.
But they were six and three over this number of

(05:03):
one fifty five where the game open. Thus we see
a push to one sixty. I think the money was right.
Illinois has been playing games over one fifty five, and
now at this current number, the ALIGNI as a team
five to three and one over the number. It's hard
to see anything, guys, other than an up and down
offensive game. However, you put it into context conference basketball.

(05:26):
I tend to think this is just general theory on
my part. Early season conference games a little more wide open.
We get to late January, early February, mid February, everything
tightens up defensively. I took a look at the Ohio
State team total. It was seventy nine and a half.
Potentially they could get over that. I looked at the

(05:47):
full game total because I don't know if I trust
Ohio State's defense against this offense. Didn't come up with
anything either way. I think Illinois is the better team.
In quick summary, I think they're the better team. I'm
not sure that I would lay this total, probably land
somewhere around where it's posted right now. Was one sixty
eight in the Ohio State Northwestern game, eighty six, eighty

two could get free throws down the stretch, et cetera.
But man, what a matchup guys, I mean, player for player,
and I won't go through all the accolades for these
guys so far this season, but there are some very
very highly rated statistical numbers on both sides of this matchup.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I'm conflicted.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
I think Rob makes a lot of good points, but
my power ratings say that perhaps we should be considering
the home dog, which I often matchups such as this
and conference play often gravitate towards anyway.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Market, though, doesn't seem to agree with that.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
We're seeing some Illinois money's coming on Illinois early, and
generally speaking, well, nothing is one hundred percent in life.
When the market in these competitive matchups triggering ron has
made a decision, it's often been right this season so far,
at least it feels that way. I do not have
any numbers to back me up here on that, but

(07:10):
it feels like these games we talk about like, Wow,
the market really likes the favorite, and then the favorite
covers every number. Ohio State should be undefeated coming into
this game. Their only loss was to pit and they
threw that one away late. But Rob you know, made
a good point. The salient point. Illinois has played the

(07:30):
tougher schedule over all. There two and two against not
that they played, I mean playing four what four non
conference ranked non conference opponents, let me spit that out.
They go two and two straight up. I think Ohio
State is a borderline top twenty five team right now,
So I have a again power ratings wise, I had
a slight lean towards the dog.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Although I don't feel great about it.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
I do because I would concur with mister Veno that
Illinois is the better team here. I mean, Illinois obviously
is a top fifteen team in the power rates.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah, I don't think these two teams are that close
in terms of like, I think Illinois is far superior.
I kind of wish like if I I'll backtrack a
little bit, like Ohio State was impressive over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
That was a good win for them at Northwestern.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
They kind of like that. They did impress me in
that game. If had I not seen that, I would
have probably been like, oh, Illinois minus three is a layup.
But what puts me off of wanting to lay three
on the road with Illinois here a little bit is
the spot. So Illinois went to Nashville this weekend, and
part of the reason I didn't play Illinois this weekend

(08:42):
in Nashville against Tennessee was I said, Okay, well, Tennessee's
lost back to that game, maybe Illinois might be looking
ahead a little bit to this game.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
They clearly weren't.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
They dominated that game against Tennessee one by thirteen. Now
I'm like, okay, maybe they're looking a little ahead a
little bit to the weekend. Nebraska is ranked, so that's
gonna be another league game for Illinois which they host
this weekend. They host Nebraska in a Big Ten game
this weekend, so maybe Illinois doesn't get their full attention,

(09:13):
which they definitely deserve as Illinois or I'm sorry Ohio State,
as Ohio State has played better.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Ultimately, I'll go to the total.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I feel like I can, you know, after Kansas State
scored a trillion points yesterday, I can throw my opinion
on totals out a little bit. I think Illinois will
hit their team total over because I don't know that
I don't know that Ohio State can really stop them
in what they want to do offensively. I don't know
that Ohio State's got the answer to be able to

(09:42):
just get stop after stop to Illinois and keep them
off of their team total. I think if Ohio State
wants to cover or win this game, they're gonna have
to kind of do what Rob said and score some points.
It's why that total is massive, up over one sixties.
It's a big number. So I don't know if I
want to go full game total and worry about one
of them not getting But to me, I don't know

that Ohio State gets enough stops to not have Illinois.

Hit their team total over So that's the way I
would play this one.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Yeah, And I would say real quick, Adam, just to
add to what you said, I bet Northwestern on Saturday
and I lost because Ohio State was that good. But
I'll just reiterate, I don't know what their defense really
is at this point in time. I know Illinois is
a superior offense, and I'll look to your opinion on this, Adam.
It's my opinion that so far this year, and it's

been against lesser competition than Illinois. Christopher Tilley was a
dominant center at Santa Clara. I don't see the same
dominance here in the Big Ten so far. The one
good thing about him is he's getting to the free
throw line a ton and he's like an eighty plus
percent free throw shooter. But here he's going to be
matched with seven footers that I don't know he's going

(10:54):
to be that big of a difference maker here. So
on paper, like I said earlier, these five on five
matchups He's Man TOAMA matchups to start the game look
really really nice. But there's some spots where I could
see Illinois taking advantage as well. I don't know that
Thornton's that good of a defensive guard. I don't know
that Tilly's been that great in the Big ten. We're
gonna find out, though, we'll see tonight. But on Tilly,

I don't know, do you see any difference in him?
He's a big fish in a little fish in a
big pond. Now really.

Yeah, I again, I don't think there's gonna be enough
rim resistance from him and from Ohio State to keep
Illinois off of off of the scoreboard to the extent
that you would need to to not have them hit
the team total. So yeah, I'm I think Illinois is
gonna score here. Sorry, Brian, are you gonna add something there?

Yeah, they keep taking money. The number is up to
five now harberplus is on the ALIONI so they continue
to take money. I mean again, the market seems to
have I don't know. We talk about that. Lines move
a lot while we're doing the show live. Sometimes it's
a trick, sometimes it's the real deal. But right as

of right now, the market seems to have made a decision.
I don't know if this like got a lot.

I'll get when I there's a discrepancy here of several
points in my power rating, So I don't know. You
guys made a lot of great points, and like I said,
I agree with you that.

ILLOI is the better team. So I'll have to just
dig into that a little bit more, I guess, but there.

I mean, if it keeps going up, we say this
a lot, I may have to make a you know,
a decision just based on the number and take Ohio
State Rob.

It's a very interesting point though.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
It's it's very similar like we talked about Zavi and
Lee yesterday, Like guys that that play, you know, they
they've had success at the mid major level and now
they sort of get thrust into a big role in
a power conference. And it's a case by case basis.
Sometimes you see a guy just blow up and thrive
and and they're incredible. Sometimes they're they're outclassed, and it's

a it's absolutely something that you should have your eye
on as the season goes on, because now we're starting
to get a ample for some of like some of
the guys in year one. That's why I tend to
like guys in year two after they move up, Like
those are the guys I circle back with and say, oh,
this roster has some year two guys second year at
their big program, because year one can be tough. It's

it's an it's an adjustment, especially when you get to
conference play and now every game is against Ohio State.
You know, big, big schools, big that have size and athleticism.
I'll touch on this one quick and then we'll probably
go to one of the other big ones. But we
have a question here about Columbia, and wow, I can't

win money. Asked if they had to like squint and
get close to my screen to just read that need contacts.

I've never worn contacts before.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
My eyes don't like them, so and I'm not gonna
come on here with glasses. So if you see me squinting,
I'm trying to read. I'm trying to read comments. But
wants to talk about Columbia and Stony Brook. Yeah, Brian, uh,
that'll be That's that's me looking at the screen. Columbia Stonybrook.
This one is out on Long Island, Stony Brook, way
up the island. It's out like I think Suffolk County

out there. Columbia is gonna head up there from the
city tonight. He wants to know if Columbia covers, I
don't see any good reason why they wouldn't.

To four and a half. Columbia very reminiscent of last
year where they just blasted everyone. They played in the
non conference. We'll see if they get and then they
got an IVY competition without Rubio Dela Rosa and Tank.
They were the worst team in the IVY after going
like ten and one or eleven and one non conference.
Their only loss of the season, Brian Power is to Yukon.

They have crushed everyone else in this sort of we
use the term weight class on the show. New Haven
U Mass Lowell bought b U Lehigh, Longwood, Fairfield, Hofstra.
They got a close swim, but that's a good win
for them. Hosts playing up a little bit, and then
over the weekend buried Albany. I don't like this stony

Brook team. I've talked about it a couple times the show.
I could only lay it with the Lions here. Anyone
had anything on Columbia stony Brook.

I was interested to hear your take on that trick
because I was kind of leaning Columbia's way too interesting game.
I mean, these two teams combined have been a couple
of cash cows. They're what thirteen to two and one
against the numbers. So if you've been betting these either
of these two teams, you've been making money. But I
looked at the Stony Brooks side. Here, guys, they've covered
three in a row as underdogs, winning outright twice against

Petune Cookman and Loyola Merrimount. They lost in Ukine last
time I covered. But I mean four covers in a
row as a dog, Rob, I don't, I don't think so.

I think they run ends for Stony brook.

Albany game over the weekend, just trashed Albany.

I like to see more as a Siana guy than
Albady just getting their teeth kicked in. But hey, I
mean this Columbia team, they're really impressive, and I have
the feeling that Hobda might have them, might have them
competitive in the IVY as early as this year.

Well, I'm gonna go to the other side of this game,
guys and just talk total real quick. Seventy five and
a half is in Colombia's wheelhouse for a team total.
And you watched the Albany game, Adam. I've said before.
I was in Connecticut for Thanksgiving with family and on
that Wednesday they played Fairfield. We talked about it. I
watched that Fairfield game. They ran off one hundred and

six points. Rattle off one hundred and six points in
that game like it was nothing. You know, Colombia is
not extremely fast tempo wise, but man, they make shots.
And I don't you know, when you go through Stony
Brooks results, you'll find out that even though Gino Ford
has a history of playing slow, they've given up eighty
plus to teams that have that capability. And I saw

this seventy five and a half and this could end
up being my leg of the teaser here because I
bet it personally myself early this morning. But seventy five
and a half just seems way way too low for
a team that has eighty plus written all over them.
Every time they take to floorid to gym, win or lose,
because if they're playing a better teams they'll probably give
up the points. But there it just looks to me

like they're always going to score. So seventy five and
a half just seem like a very very low number.
Maybe attributed a lot to the style of play of
Stony Brook. That's why the total is full game where
it is.

ten Xene Eden drii off the floor and like Suddenly
colombia is, quicker they handle the ball. Better so it's,

bigger than like a lot of the other teams in your.
League it's it's gonna win you some. Games but they've

been much more impressive since he hasn't been on the.
Floor AND i think it's just allowing you, Know columbia
to play maybe the way that they're meant to play
with this, group with this coaching, staff with this. Style
SO i couldn't argue WITH i think you have a

Worse there are just the defensive numbers are worse than
they've been in the last three. Years you have to

my first option, was let me just see USC's off the.

half up to eighty, seven now even eighty seven and a.
Half so it's taking money on THE usc, SIDE i

TOO i just Think musselman's got a really good offensive
