Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Kevin, glad you could join me again.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hey Dave, thanks for having me back on.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
I know you're busy. We're gonna keep it a little
bit quick today. I'm actually thinking maybe attaching our old
episode to what we're talking about now. Whippy Watch companies
really re releasing the Ambassador watch for the listeners. The
Ambassadors that we looked at were gmts, but the new

(00:29):
releases are not gmts.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
No third hand correct.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
So Kevin pointed out, one thing you want to keep
an eye on is the price. So the GMT at
two ninety nine Canadian versus the non GMT to eighty
nine Canadian and that's just a sell price they have
going right now, not the original price for ten dollars

(00:57):
more getting a GMT. Do you think, Kevin, what would
you do?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
That's a no brainer.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
He would go GMT?

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Oh yeah, all day? Or or go up to the Intrepid,
the top of the line, the Chrono Diver.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yeah, that Intrepid was nice.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Did you review that watch day?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Have we reviewed the Intrepid? We loved it? Yeah you
did too. I know it's been a while, uh, but
I also did the Admire watches. You weren't a part
of the admire the dive watches my favorite die watches
right now, there's still beautiful when I look at them.

(01:44):
But for me, I gotta say the new Ambassadors without
the GMT, they bring back the Aurora. They have something
called the Summer Harvest, which is a peachy orange yellow,
and the Glacier, which is a blue baby blue, which

(02:05):
looks like a Tiffany dial. And I would say, right now,
I would lean to Summer Harvest, even though, like we're
talking about saving ten dollars, but we're only talking about
a ten dollar difference from this for a GMT hand.

(02:26):
I just think there's nothing right now that looks like
the Summer Harvest.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Yeah. I do like this sunset orange.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yes, all nice. I like that description.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
It brings me back, reminds me rather of a glass
shoot dial in a similar sunburst orange.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I would have thought you would have leaned more to Glacier.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
It's not quite Tiffany blue for me, So I prefer
this orange dial.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
If I was to buy an Ambassador, I would take
the Aurora at GMT.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
You still love that, right.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
That's the best looking watch in my opinion in the Ambassador.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
In the line I have an old picture of the Aurora.
I don't think I put it on my Instagram. I
should look for it and put on Instagram. Maybe after
this episode, though, I'll dig it up and post it
on Instagram. It is a beautiful watch, and I gotta

(03:38):
say The Ambassador was a very comfortable watch to wear.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Mm hmm, yeah, I remember this watch. I really liked it.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I yeah, it was a very comfortable watch. And the
black silicone strap. Wow, it turned me into a fan
of silicon.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
You sure, yeah, Okay, I won't go there, Dave.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Oh my goodness, Kevin, why this.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Is a family podcast. You can cut it in.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, I'll keep it in just because.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I just I just giggled. It doesn't mean anything.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
It's very late in the evening or very early in
the morning, depending on how you look at it, So
I will keep it in. It gives the listeners the
state of where our head is right now. Our brains
are quickly fading. But what what did you call that
orange on the summer harvest?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Sunset orange?

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Sunset orange. They call it the salmon gradients.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
That's pretty accurate.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Yeah, I'm starting to see that now too. I hate
to say this, but I think I like your description better,
very rare. You're going to hear me say.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
This, and you should say it again.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Then the sunset orange. I think, Kevin, I think you.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Haven't what.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
You might have described it.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I take it back. Salmon ingradient is a good name.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Ah, not man enough to do it. Yeah, it's okay,
you already said it once.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Don't worry, I won't bleep it out anyways. I'm a
huge fan of this watch company. I am biased because
it is a Canadian brand and and they highlight Canadian culture,
so I am a little biased, but I gotta tell
you for real, this is a a good watch. I
know the Ambassador is a comfortable, it's a reliable, it's

(05:52):
a beautiful looking watch. So everyone, if you haven't Google
Whip be watched company and and check out the Ambassador line. Please.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah, it's a fabulous value propossession right under three hundred bucks.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yes, yes, it is amazing and worthy to know. If
I didn't say it before, it's a Quartz movement, so
I know some people are not fans of Quartz movements,
but I'm telling you I have Quarts, I have Automatic,
I have Digital, I have any Digiti and mechanical, the

(06:38):
grab and go concept of a quartz. It is so convenient.
So if you don't have a quartz and you're thinking
like this is holding you back because it's a quartz,
I'm saying, do not let it hold you back. I
think quartz just makes it watch much more fun and
more convenient, and.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
That three hundred bucks would be a great daily.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
This is true. You know what, maybe we should let
the listeners kind of listen to this second half of
our podcasts, which will be our review of the GMT
watch mm hmm. And and sorry again for the rough
beginning of this one. It is very late. It is

(07:24):
early in the morning, so my apologies if we're a
little sloppy.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
It's okay, Dave, We're good.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Hello everyone, Hey Kevin.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Hey watch fans. Hey Dave, how are you pretty good?

Speaker 1 (07:45):
How is your Mother's day? Man?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
My Mother's Day weekend was good. We did My wife
and I did a lot of outdoor activities, planting in
the garden and just some miscellaneous outdoor projects yourself, wife
and I.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Had a zoom dinner with my mom on Saturday and
her mom on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
He had a zoom dinner. I haven't even done that, yet.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
It was FaceTime, not zoom. Zoom has just become a
natural descriptor of any on screen conversation.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Now, like Kleenex. All right, coke.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Exactly, That's what I was thinking. Anyways, let's change the topic.
Let's talk about a watch Canadian story. Okay, and this
story takes place in Whitby.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
I'm familiar with Whitby. I have some clients and friends
in Whitby.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
So hey man local company, Whipby Watch Company, has been
kind enough to send us two of their GMT watches,
the Ambassador GMT.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Thanks Whitby.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Thanks there are great watches. Having fun with them. You'll
see some of the posts to hit our Instagram, like
one of mine's already hit for Mother's Day. But I
have a few more photos coming over the next few weeks.
But when I say GMT to you, what pops in
your mind?

Speaker 2 (09:06):
When you say GMT, I always think of Greenwich meantime
or world time, So that just starts me into travel mode.
When you say GMT, I just want to go to
the Caribbean.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yes, And that's the same thing with me. I think GMT,
I think dual time, and I get into travel mode.
The reason why I ask is in the past, I
have traveled with my Philip Stein because it has two
dials on its face, and I've traveled with my g

(09:39):
shop right, super easy to get two time zones, more durable.
But I must say the Ambassador GMT from Whipby Watch
Company would be a great travel watch.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Oh most definitely. Just having that extra hand on the
dial makes a big difference, that hand.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
It's a cool little complication. But also being Canadian, when
I do travel, people are curious about your story too
sometimes and I love the maple leaf at the six
o'clock and when I travel will tell a story with
me being Canadian wearing a Canadian watch from a Canadian

(10:23):
watch company. Oh perfect.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Don't you wish now you could just trade in your
Arrow for the Ambassador.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
A part of me wants to say yes, but a
part of me I'm still in love with that gray
dial of the Arrow. I just love it. Who knows,
in the future I might have to get one of
these watches. They wear really really well.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, I'm actually wearing both of them. I'm double wristing
just to show my appreciation. Shout out to Whitby Watch
Company once again. I really like the Green One, the
Green Dial Ambassador, GMT.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
The Aurora, the Aurora.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Yeah, I'm really liking this thing. Do you want to
go through some of the specs.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Let's get the specs out of the way here.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Would you like to do the honors date?

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Sure? Well, GMT Complication. It's a Rhonda Swiss Quartz movement.
They come in a PVD coded black, brush stainless steel
or just in regular stainless steel. Comes with a silicon
sports strap and anti reflective dome sapphire yep.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
In addition to that, the case is forty two mil
and twenty two mil lugwith. Like Dave said, it has
either a brush stainless steel case or is PVD coded black.
Which what was PVD? What did that stand for? Again, Dave?

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Physical vapor deposition. Basically, instead of painting it black, you're
infusing black particles into the metal. It's a four step
process if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yes, it's actually probably very good for sketches and what
have you.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Yeah, it's durable.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Now let's talk about the loom on these watches.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So what did you think of the loom?

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Yeah, it's a C three super Luminova. I like it.
This green dial. It's got a really nice contrasting balance.
Extremely legible, and the loom is green as well. With
a green dial has some green on the hands. Yeah,
it's cute.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Yeah. First off, I find these watches extremely legible. They
don't feel like they're forty two millimeters either. They feel
smaller than that. And I say that in a good way,
because larger watches sometimes can look a little clunky on
the wrist. I have a and three quarter risks, so

(13:01):
this fits really well.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
It's some thickness of twelve mil and lug to lug
is forty nine point nine mil. It works quite nice.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I know you're very particular when it comes to how
a watch feels and looks on your wrists.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
What do you think forty two is the max I
would go? So this is the max for my risk size.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
When you say this is your absolute limit, are you
saying it you wouldn't go any further or you actually
like it? No?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
I like it. My lled is the same size, and
that has slightly longer lug to lug. So this feels
great with the rubber strap. I like it. Not gonna
lie to you might just have to hold on to
this one.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
That would be Well, there's a sale right now. If
you hit their website, you could buy one.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Why do I need to buy it? It's in my hand.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, I think they did pre if you mail.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
The back, you know, I'm just kidding, you'll get this
one back.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Before we got these watches in our hands, I felt
an affinity to the Aurora, the great green dial it's gorgeous,
but the black gold that one surprisingly really grew on me.
I think it's more versatile. You could probably wear it
in different scenarios, whereas I find the green dial it's

(14:27):
only going to be suitable in certain situations.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
I disagree with you. I think the green dial with
a PVD case of black it's very camouflage. It's a
very sporty look. But I do like the black with
red numerals.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
So, Kevin, what do you think of the case back?

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Well, I'm glad you asked that, Dave, because the case
back is very unique for this watch. Let's go over
what we see on the back, so stamping, we have
Northern Time Standard on the top. Underneath that it says
design in Canada, and then there is a logo right

(15:08):
in the middle, and that would be a logo of
the Order of Canada, which we'll talk about briefly, and
then it says Swiss Movement GMT on the left side,
ten atimeters for water resistance on the right side, and
then at the very bottom it says would be Watch Company.

(15:28):
So it's all engraved on the case back. Very nice.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
You know. More and more I'm liking engraved casebacks more
and more. I find myself studying casebacks just as much
as I would dial. You will be seeing this caseback
in my Instagram at one point in the near future.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Mm hmm. Yeah. I'm going to try to take a
macro picture of this as well if it comes out nice.
But should we quickly talk about the Order of Canada.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Go for it, dude.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Well. The Order of Canada is how our country honors
people with the extraordinary contributions to the nation. It started
back in nineteen sixty seven and it's only appointed or
given to those people who have made an outstanding achievement
to the country, namely community volunteers, to scientists, actors, members

(16:25):
of the military, scholars or even your regular neighbor Joe
next door. It's a medal given to you and the
symbol of the Order of Canada is engraved on the
back of this watch, and it looks like a lion
holding a maple leaf wearing a crown.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
It's an appropriate case back and that logo is appropriate
for Whitby Watch Company because Whitby Watch Company likes to
showcase a lot of our Canadian contributions and I know
it's a strong part of their mission to highlight Canadian achievement.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Not just Canadian achievement that they also partnership with like
Wounded Veterans, Wounded Warriors, Canada Believe and Charitbole organizations for
soldiers and what have you.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yeah, they got your six watch, which is a very
cool watch, comes with a very cool case. But you know,
hopefully they get recognized in some way as putting Canada
on the map for putting out quality.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Watches mm hmm and quite affordable.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
And Whitby does have a history with time pieces. There
was a clock manufacturer in Canada and they were in Whitby.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
M hmm. It's the same same company.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Different company, same town. But I don't want to get
away from the watch because we will probably be interviewing
someone from the company in the near future, and we
could talk about the company more and its history and
what they plan to do with other Canadian achievements. But

(18:16):
let's get back to the ambassador's GMT.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Hey, Dave, one thing we didn't talk about is the
case that it comes in.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Yes, okay, let's talk about that case.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
So, guys, it comes with a nice leather rat travel
case which holds up to two watches with nice division
in the middle. I have to say it's quite nice.
I like this for the box that it comes in.
It holds two watches, Whitby Watches no Doubt, or any

(18:49):
other watches that fit the size very securely, safely and
scratch for free.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
Above all, if you use the strap in the case
to secure the watches, they are not moving anywhere. Your
watches will be safe. On the case itself has a
company logo as well, a black leather case with white stitching.
It looks really nice. And can I say like for

(19:18):
this price point to get a case like this, it
is an added bonus Because I can't tell you how
many watch boxes I have just sitting underneath my bed
or in my closet. I don't have the heart to
throw them away. I never will throw them away. They're
just boxes, right, whereas this travel case actually has some use.

(19:42):
You can actually take it when you travel. It's not
just going to be sitting in the closet collecting dust.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Yeah. Absolutely, I agree with you there. It's not just
another cardboard box that you're going to toss out as
soon as a watch comes out. So it's very unique
and very intelligent of would be to.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Do this smart. It is definitely a perk when you
buy a watch. So what do you think of the
name Ambassador?

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Right along the lines of all their watches, it's an
ode to the country itself, which is where they're based from,
and the maple leaf pretty much says it all at
the six o'clock. Do you agree with me on that totally?
I think that's one of the things I really like
about this watch. It's Canadian based and it tells you

(20:30):
every time you look at it. It's a reminder right totally.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
In the brief description, they say the Ambassador GMT watch
celebrates the story of the Canadian spirit because wherever we go,
our reputation proceeds and defines the ambassadorship of a heritage
that has influenced many great achievements in all fields. And
I think that's so true. I just want to say

(20:56):
right now they are on sale if you go to
the web, so it's three hundred and five dollars ten
cents Canadian. Would you recommend this Dave?

Speaker 2 (21:06):
I'm really I'm really liking this watch with me. If
you're listening, so, I don't know if you're going to
get back both watches. You might have to just send
me an invoice for one. But it's really growing on me,
and that's kind of unusual if if you know me,
I don't think Dave thought I would think much of

(21:27):
this watch, but I was worried this is screen dial.
I don't know. I don't know if it's because we're
recording late or or it's doing something funky to me.
But yeah, I don't have a GMT in my collection.
So if you only get back one watch with me,
I'm sorry, You're just got to send me the bill.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
We are going to have to fight over the Aurora,
just to let you know it is a beautiful watch,
can I ask? Maybe then a more appropriate question would
be who would you recommend this watch? Too?

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Well, I'm just gonna say this, Dave. Be Watch Companies
is a smaller Was that a micro brand? Would you
call this a micro brand?

Speaker 1 (22:13):
I would say they're a micro brand, but they're maturing
beyond that label. They have big ambitions in front of them,
so they're growing beyond that label.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
So I'm going to say this to you, WHID be
good on you, small watch company, Canadian company. We are
rapping for you, and this watch is actually a pretty
impressive timepiece that would be suitable for all types of

(22:45):
male and female risk and watch lovers. I don't have
enough good things to say about this, so is.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
That your answer? It's a watch for everybody.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yeah, it's affordable, it's good looking, is jerable, it has
a few impressive complications, namely the GMT, and it's a
Canadian company.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Well said, dude, Well said.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
And the best part is that I don't have to
wind it for four years. It's a got a forty
five month battery life something like that. Almost four years,
so you're good for four years.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
Yeah, you're right. This would be a great daily because
it does check off a GMT complication. It has a
beautiful aesthetic, it has a date complication, it tells the time. Anyways,
on that note, thanks for listening.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Thanks for listening, guys, see you in the next one.
