Speaker 1 (00:02):

to leave us a five star review on wherever you
download your podcasts. We hope you enjoy the show. Hello everyone,

(00:26):
how's everyone doing? Good? And now before we get into watches,
I want to ask any highlights from the Canadian International
Auto Show? Did you have a favorite highlight on?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
The whole show was actually pretty amazing. Compared to the
last few auto shows, they've been good, but this one
well laid out.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
I guess you could say is that because of the
BMW displayed. I didn't you.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Guys find that they I think they went out of
the way. They took out, They rented the whole six
hundred level, and I think the vehicles are very cohesive.
They well displayed, well laid out, and then they had
a march area which Kerl couldn't take advantage of that.

(01:29):
I thought it was fabulous considering we went to Detroit
Auto Show. And as the inverse.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Of that, yeah, it was pretty bad. That was in
my two cents, all right, So BMW basically.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Now the highlight of the show. You asked for highlight,
and I have affinity towards BMW, so I like that.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I know you were kind of upset that they didn't
give you a free coffee.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, what's with that? We have to get tokens. Where
do you get these tokens from?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
No?

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I did.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Great have to answer that word? And you, Carol, did
you have barn?

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Carol? This is what David and I do, especially.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
When Kevin is on the podcast. He just likes to
insult me. And it's all.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Right, Well, I'm sure that that's what keeps the viewership alive.
So I don't have any comments with that.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Hey, Carol, I don't think you've insulted me. And we
got some great downloads and m how about you? Any
highlights for you? Carol?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
You know, the one that really took me by surprise
and was probably the first story that I after that
week was the whole JEEP exhibit, and I know, David,
that is a place close to your heart. I was
so impressed with the way that they had the layout done,
and then just the track really took me by surprise

(03:16):
in terms of how they had that built and allowing
for people to ride in one of those I mean
we got the Rubicoma was at a V eight engine
last if it's behind, you know, and I just thought,
oh man, I've ridden a jeep wrangler when I was
a teenager. That was not that long ago, mind you,
for anyone listening, and I just forget how fun it is.

(03:41):
And that track like some of those things going up
that bridge and over these thirty degree sloping cylinders. It
doesn't look like much as a spectator, but in there
I was squealing for dear life, but trying to keep
it together because I know people were also watching. So
I just thought, what a fun way to promote jeeps

(04:01):
and see what it can do that you don't get
to see on the road. Hopefully it's harder to say.
In Mississauga, a lot of weird things happen. That was
such a memorable event. And seeing that we had a
woman driver also was appalling, you know, like that's cool.
That could be my job someday.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
So did it convert you to a Jeep customer?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Of you know, I probably would look into a Jeep
for a rental if I were to travel abroad, definitely,
Like if I was back in Hawaii and got to
visit Maui again, and they do that really scary trek
through the mountaintop. I think it's like the only like
one way vehicle path. I would definitely rent a jeep.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
That's a scary pass.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Maybe if you're in Hawaii, the road to Hannah would
be better with the jeep and then you can have
the convertible and not have to worry about falling off
the side of a cliff.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Doors would be nice. Kahiki Highway.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
I think you're right. Yeah, I must say I enjoyed
the jeep experience as well, and I enjoyed the BMW.
I thought they did an amazing job with the jeep
test track. I wish I did it again because when
we're at the top of the hill, they do this
inclined decline test and at the top you could see
the whole on the show and oh, I should have

(05:24):
just redid the track and take another photo from the top.
That would have been a really nice point of view
from a watch point of view. I know that BMW
stopped doing their IWC collab. Chrysler three hundred stopped, so
I don't know if they're going to have an in

(05:45):
dash clock. And I think Lexis is still doing an
in dash clock, but it's a toyota the COURTZ. It's
nothing that specific to watches. But what we should have
done when they had all those Bentley's roped off, I
think we were just so caught up, as I guess spectators.
We forgot we had media pass and we could easily

(06:06):
access those. We should just ask the guy to walk
as though, and we could have seen what kind of
dash clocks they would have had if it was a
watch brand. So that's my only regret. Because we did
see a few not well dressed people going to the
Bentley's and Rolls Royces and and they were escorted right,
and they had media pass as well, So I'm sure

(06:28):
we could have done that, and that's a regret I didn't.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
We forgot about that aspect of vehicle.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
We were, Yeah, we're too busy geeking out. I guess right.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
I didn't even notice that they were getting around there
as a special access. I really liked it was a
smaller display the Alpha Romeos, you know, to the point
where I was checking price tags. I'm like, David, that's
the one I'm going to buy as my next car.
But I was looking at what kinds of analogs they use,

(07:03):
and it was nothing in particular to my surprise. I
thought perhaps they would be one of those considered luxury
cars with a luxury clock collab, but they do sell
them probably as just like fun time pieces as collectibles,
So that was a bit surprising for me to see
it's still by the Alpha, but I was a bit

(07:23):
dismayed that they didn't have anything from a watch perspective
or a clock perspective that would have been a nice
to have. Now, David, that was a display that you
missed where there was a display case there and they
had like some of the retro original Alpha Romeo outfits,
and then there was some kind of analog clock there

(07:43):
as well. But I'm not sure what that connection was
with the vehicle because it looks like one of those
kind of like ones that you just put on your
bar unit or you know, your mantle. It was a
clock like that.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I miss that.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Ah. You know what we missed on media day, all
three of us that I saw the following Tuesday, we
didn't go to the Audi exhibit. It's the whole back
room where the Lego car, that Lego McLaren the whole
back room was Audi and we completely missed it.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
And did you like the Aldi display?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
And they had an RSGT Wagon the R S six GT.
I've only seen that on a YouTube video is like
one of twenty five in the world. Looks like a
race car, but it's not. It's available for the average
showed to purchase. That was beautiful. Do you see that
vehicle You'll know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
But can the Audi do a G turn like the
G Can I do a G turn?

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Remember when we ran up to see them do a
G turn a couple of times mid afternoon and then
they spraided down with some like detergent, But any ways,
it was still quite the site. Right, you're the guy.
I waved him down and it was like, can you
do it again? And I know he looked me in
the Eyesac, I will do it again for you. But
that was kind of cool. When they could do car

(09:11):
demos that way, there weren't too many that got that
sort of space to do it.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
So the vehicle I've seen that I can do the
three sixty G turn is some Chinese electric sports.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Car who was first? Did Mercedes G wagon or this
is Chinese brand?

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Oh? But well maybe you're ever going to use that technology,
is my point. So so stupid.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Well, when you're trying to combat the zombie apocalypse all
coming at your car, you just do that and they
all fly off. It's well, it's very easy to understand.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Or when you have somebody trying to steal your vehicle, there,
smack them with your vehicle.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
There you go, there, you go, see there done. She's
very practical. Mm hmm.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
It's necessary now. Gosh the auto theft rates here, that's
what we're known for now in the GTA.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Yeah, well, Carol, thanks for batting your eyelashes and getting
them to do it again. That was that was good
for photos. Yeah, hey, Kevin, our first time with Carol
at the auto show, and I think they were perks.
They had the police display and we were looking at

(10:33):
their zombie apocalypse vehicle and I think we had free
reign of it because again Carol once again tied up
one of the police officers batting her eyelashes, or it
had been Kevin batting his eyelashes at the other police officer.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
I don't know, Carol starting that guy for a good
five minutes.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
I know, I was like, are they going to exchange numbers,
like hurry up, who's gonna who's gonna bust out their phone?
Who's gonna It was a.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Career conversation, as David, do you know about career chameleons?
And I was just curious how someone would end up
in Special Forces. So he was telling me he's been
doing the Special Forces for three years and he said
it's just like any other internal job posting that you
can apply for and then get trained it. So I
just thought that was fascinating. You know, like if we

(11:22):
think about our jobs, you can't go from being like
a planes close to like a special agent's kind of role.
But they have that access and I thought that was amazing.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
He's not here, Carol, so you could drop the act.
That's just the line. He just wanted his number come on.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Really, I noticed that he had it almost looked like
a rash guard for his neck. But maybe it's like
for when people come and they try to knife you
in the neck and they've got like a I mean,
it was just cloth, but I just thought that was
a very distinctive piece as part of his uniform. And
I forgot to ask him about that. But see, I'm
still going on about the career thing. It really was
all that it was. You could have happily come with

(12:02):
Kevin's free coffee and he would have gotten the same story.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
So Carol, after talking to him for five minutes, what
kind of launched us we were?

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Oh? No, I don't know. I don't think he actually
ever flicked his wrist to show anything conflict. I think
he wasn't checking for time when we were talking. I'll
leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, they weren't checking risks out at all. I'm sure
if any any piece of Julie Carol was looking for
is probably a wedding ring, which he did not have.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
So well, you know, you know my concepts of wedding
rings and what I would rather have instead of one, Right, David,
we talked about this true. Any any gentleman who buys
me a Rolex Hulk, I will say yes to the watch.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Oh that's right, I have two Rolex ben Ben. I
guess fan boy and fangirl here. Yeah, saying that, what
did you guys wear to the show on your wrist?

Speaker 2 (13:04):
I think I just wore my Steinhart. Yeah, my strap book.
I didn't tell you guys my watchtrap broke off a
couple of weeks ago while I was wearing it, and
it broke off from where the where you put it
onto the watch had where the pitts go, so it

(13:27):
just came separated off the leather. It's just dangling. I'm like,
what the hell, Well.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
I'll have to get you a Natle strap.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, it's on a natal strap right now on a
mill tele never used it, so I might as well
wear it. Looks okay it.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Are you into customizing your watches the way that David
does with the straps and the clock face, because you've
done some amazing things and I keep saying did you
get another watch? You're like, no, this is just a
different fit for it. Yes, amazing stuff.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Kevin also has a modified Saiko s k X. Oh
do you still have that?

Speaker 2 (14:12):
First? Let me get it.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
I know.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
He changed out the hands. I think the crystal of
the watch.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
I don't know if he did the dial or the
the dial, but the hands he changed out to make
it look I think a little more rule XI.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Oh with the Mercedes sign, yeah exact. I didn't know
you could change those things on your own. I thought
you always had to go to a watch repair shop.
That had like the professionals do it, that would be needed.
I didn't know you could customize it to that level.
Just the dials and the straps mostly. Look at that, Oh.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Wow, looks like a rolex.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
It's my what I call it, Dave? I don't know,
say Coob Mariner. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
You know what I think of a name. It looks oh.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Wow, see I put it sort of looks like a
roll like sub mariner, doesn't it?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
It does?

Speaker 1 (15:20):
It hasn't seen it for a while. It looks beautiful.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Act you should have brought. You should have flashed that
watch at the BMW cafe and said this is the token. Silly,
where's my coffee?

Speaker 2 (15:32):
I don't think this would get me a coffee?

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Oh, Carol, does sounds so rolexy.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
I don't think I would do it? All right, Just put
your hand on the table. Listen, Bobby, I don't need
no token.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
For something I wanted at the merch store. Just imagine that, Kevin,
if you know.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
What's good for you, I would just kindly and quickly
past that cappuccino.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
You're not supposed to drink cappuccinos after ten thirty am.
If you're ever in Italy. Please, that's just a socially
accepted rule over there. Oh, only cappuccinos specific.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Espressos are okay, yep, Now, I know it's probably offended
a few people in Italy. Actually it's okay.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
It's in a cup that can't see right, like a
takeout cut.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
I don't drink cappuccinos anyways.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Too much lactose you can get it with. Well, then
we're all getting into the first world stuff, so I'll stop.
But on that topic of lactose intolerance here, it's not
the same if you're in Europe. I've heard you can
drink whole milk there and be perfectly fine. So it's
not that you actually have an intolerance to lactose. It's

(16:57):
we have an intolerance to the way that milks passed
dri here.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Now, I remember going to Lincoln, and this would be
a good segue to what I want to ask you
guys next. This year, probably even for the past few years,
Lincoln has been totally digital screens. I think they've abandoned
the analog clock under dash, but in the past they've

(17:24):
had Cartier. They've had Cartier as a clock under dash,
and in fact they the Lincoln's had a few models
badged Cartier, and I think even on the inside door
panel would be Carti labeling on some of the older Lincolns,
and I'm going back, I think to the nineties and

(17:47):
early two thousands they had the Lincoln Cartiers. I was
hoping to see something like that this year, but obviously
I think they're going on digital. But kind of leads
me into the question. I know in the past we
were supposed to talk about French watches, but we haven't.

(18:07):
What do you guys think of French brands and do
you have a favorite French brand?

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Oh well, pardon my ignorance. I guess when I think
of French brands, I think of names that sound like
they're French. Should be like, oh, Chapaparte or okay, Carti
is the obvious one, actually a known French brand, But
I'd be like, oh, like Chaparte or Jegel Couture. I

(18:34):
don't even know how to say it, but it's like
my favorite watch, like the jlc's And turns out those
are not French. So I actually don't have much experience
in what what are considered luxury French watches. I actually
had to look something up before this call. And there's
this beautiful one called a Free Paris o Frey Paris

(19:00):
and it came in at a competition in twenty eighteen
that they want a prize based on the one that
that I guess is like their main piece, which is
a Serbio PERI. My French is quite outdated, so I
don't know if I pronounce that right. Sorry for those
that are French speaking, Your ears didn't bleed too badly.

(19:24):
It says that the Orat pieces are a tribute to
the earlier French masters like Brigette and Berthood, which we
know Brigette is quite known. David, we talked about that brigade. Yeah,
so out of all the other ones I've looked at,
I think that was the only one that really caught
my eye. Like I would never have thought Bell and

(19:44):
Ross was French, to be honest, like William Bell, you know,
Ross doesn't sound very like you didn't come from Europe perhaps,
but those are French, so I don't I don't have
much to say.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I just looked up Aufrey Harry and wow, gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
You're right, to be fair, Swiss and French watches are
pretty close if you think about it. Right, they're pretty
much side by side Switzerland. They speak French, so I
think there's a lot of amalgamation among the two countries

(20:27):
in terms of watchmaking, but a purely French brand they're
I guess the most famous would be Cartier, and then
there's a whole bunch of others that are probably not
so well known.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
What's your opinion on Cartier.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I'm not a not a big Cartier fan. I like
the Santos. The Santos does look nice, but would I'd
buy one? Probably not. If I'm gonna pick a French brand,
I would. I like the new B and R zero three.
It's a brand new watch that they released. It has

(21:04):
the Earth and then it has a satellite revolving around
the Earth. That's for the second hand and for the
hour hands. It's uh, I forgot. It looks amazing.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Yeah, I didn't expect belln Ross to make something like that.
It's not not the usual thing.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
I know they do bold design sometimes, but that was
very unexpected in my opinion.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
And then I found the price and it's like five
k us. Big turn off there. It's pretty expensive.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Oh wow, that is very unique, right, How do I
tell time on this.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Well one the satellite is the second's hand, the minute hand.
Rather I see what is the hour hand? What image
is that?

Speaker 3 (21:57):
The blood moon? We're getting an eclipse and it was
a commemory of March fourteenth.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
How should you go?

Speaker 2 (22:04):
I would totally rock that pricey like fifty five hundred US.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
This is the thing like if you if we're thinking
about luxury watches in general, and if you compare it
to the Cardier line, it's about the same with something,
you know, like special edition whatnot. Right, So so it
brings me to the question because Kevin, you you rightfully said,
you know, France and Switzerland are quite close. You know,

(22:32):
that's why watchmakers are kind of like neighbors. Why do
you think that the French designer or luxury watches haven't
gotten as much publicity and uptake as Swiss watchmakers.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
All the major brands are from Switzerland, so they have
all the recognition, all the top brands. And since they're
so close to each other and they both speak French,
might as well just leave it to the Swiss to
be the top watchmakers and the French can have their

(23:11):
Louis Vuittons, they can have their Ermez. You know they
lead on the fashion as opposed to the watchmaking. I
don't know that they're all for the affluent, so I
wouldn't know. Yes, but yes, so all the high end brands.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
Is that the reason why neither of you own Cardiers,
because it's more of like a fashion statement than it
is about the engineering of the watch.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
Actually, I do want to Carcher one day. One of
the things I'm waiting for is maybe a day where
I could buy a couple's cart A watch. That way
both me and my wife can go to a boutique
and have that whole boutique experience. I don't know if
that will come soon. I think what might come more

(24:02):
soon is the purchase of a Cartier. They have a
Cartier dive watch, and it's not well known, but I
love the look of it. It has a classic Cartier
roman numeral at the twelve. You can pick some used
ones for anywhere from about six to eight thousand. I

(24:26):
don't even know the name of it. I usually when
I go with Cronos twenty four, I just type cart
A dive watch and it pops up.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
I thought you'd want the tank his in her tank.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
As a couple's watch, it would be his in hers tank,
But for me it would be that dive watch. More selfish, selfishly.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
Cardier Caliber to Cardier Diver That sounds right.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Neat.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
I like the tank to be honest with you, but
to be honest, truly honest. If I'm going to buy
a Cartier tank, if I look in that budget, I
would buy a JLC. I would get a reversal.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
A thousand I am a thousand percent behind you.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
All right, they're pretty much on the same price. Reversal.
I love that rectangular thing and duel dole is so cool.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Again, if I were to be selfish, yeah, the culture
reversal I would love to get for myself. But as
as a couple's watch boutique experience, I think, well, how
would you know my better half would want to Cartier
us because we're in the know. JLC her and her

(25:50):
circle Cartier.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
What is a boutique experience that you're mentioning, David? What
does that look like?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Uh? If you go to the Cartier, they actually sit
you down. They they usually have a separate room, very
well nicely done room, and it's white glove service. They
bring in the watches, they bring in the boxes. They
bring in like little treats, champagne, coffee, your choice, and

(26:21):
they walk you through and they make you feel very special.
We had a similar experience in Cozumel at one of
the ports, and there was I think they're called Blue Diamond.
They do jewelry as well as several brands, and we
were there getting.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
A metal bracelet or Blue Diamond or Blue Nile.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Blue Diamond. Okay, they're at every port basically, but when
we got this strap, this metal strap, I think we're
the only one making a purchase. Everyone's like, you know,
just browsing. And they took us to the back, say
us on leather couches, champagne because it is Mexico. I

(27:07):
love meant multiple champagnes, and they fitted the strap onto
the watch and it was beautiful.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
That sounds like a social experience that we could build
for watch fanatics. Why not bring a couple of us
in whoever has the nicest condo or house dwelling and
do the same thing and make an evening of it.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Let's do that, Carols, you got a new condo.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I have a new condo and I love Champagne. I
have no problems with procuring and picking out ones that
will fit the occasion. I actually bought tu nisashimi recently.
I was going to make something with that and present orders.
Now I only have a three seater couch, so some
of you might end up on the balcony, but maybe

(27:57):
that's how we manage capacity.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
When is this party?

Speaker 3 (28:02):
I care well, I'm a spar of the moment kind
of gales just because I heard of this boutique experience.
Now just give me a give me, give me a
time to think about this, and maybe we do this
as our April installment for our next podcast.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Recording is your Is your party room open yet?

Speaker 3 (28:21):
No, it is not open yet. It's still being built,
but they've made a lot of progress since last year.
It is not there, but we also have a media room.
I'm so excited to see what that ends up looking
like as well, and then in the future we can
try to take advantage of that. They also have a
kid's zone, so Kevin, your kids can hang out in
that area if you need to bring.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Them sixteen and fourteen so.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
They can check out the waiting pool outside them. There's
a beautiful patio at the photo rendering shows it's like
a semi circle waiting pool so doesn't get too deep,
but a beautiful patio set up with lounge chairs, so
that just vibes with my spa sent so much. I
hope that it really does turn out to look that

(29:09):
nice and we could probably do like a barbecue on
the fourth floor, enjoy a bit of waiting, come back inside,
do a podcast. I have a projector here if the
kids want to watch something on screen on my wall,
Actually not a bad idea.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
And then we've gone off on a tangent. Carol heard
the word champagne and she's like, okay, this get this
party started.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I don't yeah, like, probably don't advertise what's it by condo?
But yeah, I did go.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Carrol, is therea cartier you would probably purchase?

Speaker 3 (29:47):
So I'm not into the mainstream stuff. So I see
a tank and I see it on people's wrists, and
I'll see the upgraded one and I do cringe of
it because it's too commonplace. Right now. Having said that,
I am wearing my Apple Watch today because I'm trying
to improve my lifestyle and get steps in. I'm not
shooting yet. I think there's great functionality and that's why

(30:07):
watch enthusiasts have different time pieces for different occasions. If
I were to pick a Cardier I was looking at
that the other day, it would be the roadster. Check
out the shape of this thing?

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Sorry, which model?

Speaker 3 (30:21):
The roadster? XL check out the shape of this My
star signs of Gemini and I can never make decisions.
It's like do you want a square face or rectangular
face or circular face? And it's kind of got a
good meld of both of them.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
Wow, I just saw pictures of the roadster. Oh yes,
good call, good call.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Maybe I could sport this in my new Alpha Romeo.
And now I'm like this old soul driving down and
I'm only like borderline millennial, Like how cool would that be? Yes?

Speaker 1 (30:52):
And cheaper yeah, and cheaper than the ol Frey Perry.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
I know a one of those Grail watches. And just
imagine if I got a Lincoln instead, I could bring
it all back. Did you imagine?

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Oh yeah, the Lincoln Cartier and you'd be rocking the roadster.
That's cool. I just realized to answer Carol's question, why
Swiss Swiss is such a strong name and watchmaking. Oh,

(31:29):
what's that region in Switzerland? It's gonna kill me. Now
I talked about in the past. I know, Kevin, you've
talked about in the past, and it's just, oh, uh,
you're talking about in Switzerland. Oh, it's in the French
part of Switzerland, so Jura arc is UNESCO. So maybe

(31:49):
that gives Swiss frands or Swiss made that extra edge.
J U r A space A r C is your arc.
I don't know, maybe I fell off topic there. I'm
just trying to bring it back to what Carol asked
why Swiss brands are so strong, and I think it

(32:13):
could be partly the your arc partly definitely what Kevin
said about having all those high ends there.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Yeah, well they've been making Swiss watches since about fifteen hundred,
sixteen hundred, so that's a long time. And to have
all those major brands, all the og top of the line,
best brands there from the beginnings, it only makes sense
they're the top watchmakers of the world.

Speaker 1 (32:45):
If given a choice, Oh, actually, I think we answered
it as Swiss brand or French brand. Kevin, what would
you buy?

Speaker 2 (32:54):
Did we just talk about this?

Speaker 1 (32:55):
We just JLC, right.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
I really like jlc's I think it's the most affordable
high end brand in my opinion for me. You know,
you could easily go up to the rolex and then
go up from there. But I like Chelsea's Carol.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Your next watch Swiss or French.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Swiss? For sure, my girl would be a PEP or
patech fit. I would not mind an AP, A royal
Oak would be nice.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
I wouldn't mind one. I wouldn't mind. I like that.
Get an answer, so, Dave, she wouldn't mind an AP
or a pattack.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Wow, I am clearly hanging out with a different almer
of watch from thatatics here, I think, yeah, I would
be happy with Chelsea patak Ap absolutely what my next
one much would be from either of those. I think

(34:03):
it might be maybe at belln Ross French, just because
of the entry point. But if things go well, who
knows a cartier if I'm being selfish just on my
own purchase, Yeah, I like the JLC. Actually the reversal

(34:24):
is sound purchase. Yeah, very sound purchase.

Speaker 2 (34:29):
But I have a really interesting watch brand that's French,
that's very affordable, Baltic. They look really nice. Yeah, they
do well, very inexpensive, probably under a thousand bucks. Become
increasingly more popular.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Yeah, as a micro brand, they sell out too, so
they're yeah, they're highly sought after.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
I'm sold on this one. There's this one called the
Aquas Scheff Classic that reminds me a bit of the
Rolex Explorer mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Make some homage type pieces. They look very expensive, so
we do.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
If a police officer were to offer you a Baltic
and still of a ring, would that Would that fly
or not? It still has to be a.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
I think from a management or a wealth management standpoint,
that would not fly. There you go, that resell value
might not get me enough to rent my place out.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Very practical. It's funny how practical our mind is when
we're talking about luxury pieces.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
I think that's the beauty of some of these hobbies,
is you know, hobbies are typically things that are expensive,
but hobbies like watch collecting is really an asset thing
that you're you're really accruing for yourself, right, It's not
something I've appreciating value and there's his stree behind it.
This's also the tactile experience with a lot of these

(36:05):
being analogues. As we're emerging way too fast into the
digital world, is we kind of lose sight of Hey,
remember when we used to have to read sundials our
ancestors did, and the analog kind of brings us back
to that time. It's like, do people know how to
tell time anymore? Is everything digital now? I don't know.

(36:26):
There's there's this whole like a life journey and appreciation
for telling time and what goes into precision when you're
building a watch, right, I think that artistry and the
craftsmanship will be long remembered past the digital era.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Yeah, I would agree with that. I find it analogous
to like a manual transmission vehicle, petrol vehicles of old carburetors.
They're just not coming back. So anything old school. It
doesn't have to be fancy, too fancy, but you know,
mechanical act just like a watch. There's all different price ranges,

(37:07):
so it doesn't have to be an ap but something
that you know you wind up feels good in the hand,
it looks good. I think that's more important. I said
that I do want that role.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
Ax Well, I always think of the post apocalyptic times
and you've lost energy sources, so what are you going
to use?

Speaker 1 (37:31):
Right?

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Like you said, sun dial, we'll just look at the sun.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
I don't know how to read.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
That, Dick, down see where the shadow is?

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Is that for Groundhog Day?

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Only?

Speaker 3 (37:43):
Know? What isn't that only for Groundhog Day? No?

Speaker 2 (37:50):
That's fake? I'm sorry?

Speaker 1 (37:53):
What?

Speaker 2 (37:53):
No, they the.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Down Hogs, they know, they know.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
And doubly has not ready to do with tell any time.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Well, the changing of season is time.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
That's a that's just seasonal.

Speaker 1 (38:11):
Yes, I know some of us got a hard exit,
and I think you guys landed on some great points. Yeah, analogue,
manual shifters, reading time. I actually know kids that don't
know how to read the clock. It's crazy. But I

(38:34):
had a lot of fun with you too today. I
hope we can do it soon, maybe at Carol's party room.
Who knows? Any last thoughts before we say goodbye to everyone.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
I was appreciative of being able to go to the
Canadian International Auto Show and bringing our watches there to
appreciate the collaborations that some of those brands have had
with watches. So I really wanted to thank both of
you for that opportunity on media day, And just to
round back to the question, David, you asked what watch

(39:11):
we both brought. I brought the Cassio Royale in gratitude
of you, and so I just wanted to thank both
of you for that experience.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
It's our pleasure, great to meet you you. First of all,
it's great that all three of us have to go
on the media day at Canadian Auto Show, so I
thank the media for that. If they are listening, hopefully
they'll bring us back or next year.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
And thank you guys like for doing this episode and
going to the car show. I had a blast too,
and yeah, let's do this real soon. Okay, I'll say
bye to you.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Have every day everyone, Thank you you too.
