Speaker 1 (00:03):
Well, you're listening to watch fanatics podcasts. Here we talk
about watches, either myself or with my two watch collecting friends. Subscribe,
like and give us a five star rating if you
feel appropriate, enjoy the show.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hello everyone, welcome back. And today I want to revisit
a GQ list. And in the past, Kevin and I
talked about a few GQ lists. We enjoy GQ and
GQ in Toronto has invited us to a few events.
It was always a good time. And why I want
to go back to this list is because something about GQ,

(00:50):
even though it's Gentlemen's quarterly, and it seems like it
speaks to a specific demographic more of the upper class,
I would say, but everyone reads GQ, women, men, upper class,
lower class, middle class, the elite, the average joe. Everyone
reads it. And what I like about GQ it's an

(01:14):
outside view of the world looking into the watch world.
When you're with watch fanatics, you're usually seeing a very
discerning taste. You usually see people who are in the
know a lot more knowledgeable about watches, so their list
will often look different from our list. They will often

(01:38):
look different than other orology sites or journalist sites because
GQ is more of the general public, and I think
it's important to see how they look at our hobby,
our passion. So I'm looking at a list that is
from an article titled the GQ at of the best

(02:00):
new watches in twoenty twenty five, and it came out
July twenty seventh of this year, written by Mike Christiansen.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
And.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
There is I believe fifty four watches on the list,
but I'm only going to look at the first ten.
I recommend you guys all go to the list because
there's going to be some watches that surprise you. Some
of the lower end stuff like Citizen Tiso TIMEX, and
then also the very brand of the scale like Vacheern

(02:37):
Constantine and langad Sonen so.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Go.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
I encourage you all to hop on your computers check
out this list. The photos are fantastic, descriptions are great,
and see if you agree or disagree. Now let's look
at the top ten are at least the top ten
days that GQ was proposed. So the first watch is

(03:04):
the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph forty one top gun Mira
mar a ceramic chronograph watch and the color is this
bluish green to mimic the instructor's uniforms in Miramar. I
like it easy to read, eligible unique color, the pushers,

(03:29):
the crown still stainless steel. It really really pops before
an IWC. Like you look at this watch and you're like,
that's not what we normally see with the IWC. But
I like it. I like the Top Gun chronographs. I
remember they also did it back back a long time
ago homage to the original Top Gun movie edition. I

(03:52):
always liked. But it really looks cool in this blue
Check it out. It's about eleven pounds expensive, but again,
if you're an IWC fan, which I know some of
you are, it's definitely worth checking out. Number two on

(04:12):
the list is the TIMEX Marlin Handwound, and it's nice
to see TIMEX. I always like time X. I know
it's not the fanciest the brands, and I do know
they have a great history. I remember TIMEX dominating in

(04:33):
the past. Very simple dial. I love it. It's got
a nice vintage look to it. I mean, one hundred
and seventy five pounds, you can't go wrong. But if
you're looking for a vintage looking watch, especially a vintage
dress watch, this is the watch to go for. I

(04:54):
really like it. It's simple, it's elegant for the watch fanatics.
I mean time X does have a history. For the
non watch finats, Timex still has a name. It might
not command respect like some of the upper stuff like
Rolex or Omega, but it's a cool watch. It's not

(05:18):
when someone sees this on your wrists, they're not going
to think, oh, you just found it on Ali Baba Express.
They still think, okay, Timex. It's a brand, it's been around.
It's cool now. Watch number three is a langensonen Zetwerk Date.
The price is what they say price on application, so

(05:41):
you got to go and find out how much they are.
Usually means very expensive. It is gorgeous. It is a
watch that stands out. It's rose gold and it screams
alongan's on an als. It's beautiful. I am pleased to
see on the list what the do got to say

(06:02):
about this. I love what they did with the date.
So the date wheel is on the outside of the
dial and it's the current date that goes red and
you could see the rest of the numbers of the
dates or on the outside of the dial, but it's
the red really pops. It's a cool feature, cool function.

(06:27):
I'm curious to know what it goes for. I think
anyone that can afford this wants to get this, I
think will be very please. Number four on the list
is Porsche Design Chronograph nineteen seventy five. It's a limited
edition fifty pound. I talked about this when we talked

(06:52):
about movie watches because there was some debate whether this
was on the wrist of one of the Intech for
Beverly Hill Cops. Number two. It's beautiful looking phnograph tachometer
on the dial day day. It's a limited edition and

(07:13):
if you are a fan of the Porch design, I
would recommend this. You know, very simple, stainless steel, black
dial with white numbers, very legible, very clean, and one
of the selling points is it is a titanium watch

(07:38):
and it is also worn by Orlando Bloom, so you'll
be in the company of Orlando Bloom. Watch number five
we are talking about blank Punk fifty fathom Tech and
that's at nineteen thousand pounds three hundred. It's a beautiful
looking diver, very legible. I love the fonts they use

(08:03):
for the number. The secondhand is Orange Love it. We
all know the history behind this watch. It's a great
brand of watch that speaks to watch fans and gentlemen
quarterly readers. Price tag a little high my opinion, but
it looks great, something you want to probably wear and

(08:26):
show off in a boardroom or deep sea fishing. It's
a beautiful I think functional diver. Again, I'm surprised I
haven't seen Roles in the top five, but wow, this

(08:46):
is a beautiful looking watch. Let's move to number six.
We have the Brightling Kronomat Automatic GMT and it's the
Airline Island. Addition, if you're a fan of meteor dials,
this is the watch for you. It has a gray

(09:07):
meteor dial, matches the case and the bracelet, the stainless
steel perfectly. It's at eight and fifty pounds. In terms
of Brightling gmts, I gotta say it's simple and elegant.
You know that meteor dial. I'm not a tremendously huge

(09:31):
fan of meteor dials before this watch. It really works.
It really works good for Brightling. It's a clean watch
and for twenty twenty five a GMT automatic Airling aland
I think it will be very good. I think it
will be very popular and I would love to see
this in person. I might have to go Brightling and

(09:54):
check it out. Watch number seven, of course, I always
expect didn't see one of these sooner or later. The
Omega Sea Master Diver three hundred meters orange and it's
orange because well, it comes with an orange bracelet. Well,
actually I should say orange rubber strap. The second hand

(10:16):
is orange and the twelve, three, six, nine number indices
are orange are outlined in orange. I should say this
is a watch that will never go out of style.
Orange adds a little playfulness to it. Hey, you know,
Omega doesn't always have to be just James Bond and

(10:39):
speed Masters. Like the orange really does make it fun,
makes them pop. It's going to attract the eyeballs. And
like I said, it's the classic Sea Master, can't go wrong,
and it's priced at hundred pounds. The next watch we

(10:59):
have is the Bell and Ross b Are zero five
Skeleton Phantom Ceramics. As everyone knows, I am a br
zero five fan Bell and Ross. I'm a Bell and
Ross fan. Actually it's a black ceramic with rubber strap.
I said eight pounds and it's black on black. Are

(11:22):
you Eskeldo watches skeleto dials. I am sometimes if they're
done tastefully, but I gotta say with like, black on
black on black, even the gears are black, there's no
no shiny metals popping through. It looks pretty cool. Black
gears and black springs and black. It looks like there's

(11:46):
not even color on the jewels. So they they really
went black on black on black. Phantom is an appropriate name.
It looks really nice. I would get the skeletal dial,
you know, I really would. And it's not just because
I'm a Bell and Ross person. It's just because you
don't see black gears on watch in black mechanics on

(12:10):
the watch for a watch fan, if he knows those details,
it really makes a statement. Now for GQ to put
it on, maybe they realized it its uniqueness. Will someone
on the street realize how unique it is to see
black gears, I don't know, but a fanatic would for sure.

(12:33):
So number nine on the list, we're gonna go to
the Avy eight Snoopies Flying Ace collection. They made a
huge splash on Instagram a few weeks ago. They're still
popping up on Instagram. People love this, People love Snoopy.
Snoopy is not just about Omega and astronauts, but this

(12:54):
could just be your love for Snoopy and Charlie Brown.
I know there's a few iterations. Is the one in
the GQ article they're highlighting one, but they have few iterations.
At two hundred and ten pounds, can't go wrong if
you're a Snoopy fan. That is, you can't go wrong.

(13:15):
It's a limited edition, so they might already be sold out,
but hopefully you can find one. Definitely if you find
pictures of it or search Instagram, you won't be disappointed. Fun, playful,
great watch and avi eight they do some good stuff
and of course being flying Ace it matches their brand,

(13:38):
the Aviator brands. So hudos for GQ for seeing this,
recognizing how this could be a watch for everyone, not
just that's not just for Chi Charlie Brown fans, but
even for gentlemens on the street and in the number
ten spot vaceron Constantine Mettier Dart to the Celestials. We

(14:02):
talked about this couple episodes back here it is and
top ten on the GQ list. I'm glad to see
a turbion that made the top ten and I'm glad
to see Vacheron Constantine made it to the top ten.
I think it's really a beautiful looking watch. I also

(14:23):
don't have a turbion, but I would love to have
one a vastron one day. Who knows if I'm lucky,
play my lollid tickets. See. But this is a beautiful watch.
And I know there's going to be twelve twelve variations,
twelve zodiac signs, so there is something for your zodiac

(14:43):
sign this year. You don't have to wait. I know
sometimes for the lunar New Year watches it's like one
zodiac per year, right, But this one they're putting out
all twelve, I believe. And if you have the budget
and you have the desire for Va Constantine, this is
something you can find right now with your astrological sign.

(15:07):
The price, again is price on application, meaning it's probably
very very expensive. I think I mentioned it a few
episodes ago, but we're in one hundred thousands of dollars. Again,
not for everyone, but worth checking out again if you
haven't done so already. I love it. It's nice, it's using

(15:30):
blue sapphires. It really stands out, not just in the
case but there's also Sapphires in the crown. It really
looks just stunning. But that's the ten on this list.
There's still another forty four more watches to go. I
highly recommend you guys take a look at the list.

(15:52):
You'll see, like I said, you'll see citizens, you'll see Tisos,
you'll see more Omegas Hamilton's. What I was surprised is
that there was no Rolex, so oh, well, think what

(16:13):
you may of that. I do want to say there
is a watch at the fifty fourth spot and it's
called Anoma, a one slate and it's a British watch company,
and maybe that's why they featured it, and it's an
independent company, but they have stunning designs and I gotta

(16:38):
say I never heard of it until this list, which
is another great thing about lists like this. You know,
you don't know what you're gonna learn. And this Anoma
is a gorgeous watch. I know they have some beautiful
other other beautiful dial watches. It's kind of triangular like

(16:58):
the Ventura, the one I'm looking at right now. And again,
if you go to the list, you'll see some well
you'll see number one, this Anoma, and you'll see some
other great other watches, But that's it for today. I
hope you enjoyed it. I know it's kind of you know,
hard to sometimes visualize a list through a podcast, but

(17:21):
that's why I encourage to check out this list. It's
GQ magazine, United Kingdom and it is a July twenty
seventh article by Mike Christiansen. So I hope that helps
you find this list easier. Well, you know what, by
the time I edit and post this, if I haven't forgotten,

(17:43):
I'm going to attach a link to this list in
our show notes. Until then, like honestly, everyone, have a
great day. Thank you for listening. We'll talk real soon.
