We’re not plugged into pods powering machines—but millions of us are letting AI think for us. In this episode:
  • The lesson from The Matrix that today’s algorithms prove true
  • How social feeds, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are designed to manipulate—not inform—you
  • Why “picking a side” is the only way the algorithm rewards creators—and how that destroys honest debate
  • The dangers of letting AI curate your worldview while shutting out dissent
  • Why you must “take the red pill”: put the phone down, read everything, and think for yourself
You may not be a literal battery, but if you let the algorithms do your thinking, you’re already living inside the Matrix.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Life Inside the Matrix. I'm a fan of the movie
The Matrix. I am. The movie has one problem, and
I'll get into it a little bit, but I want
to talk a little bit about The Matrix and AI.
If you haven't seen the movie, come on, man, yeah,
you have to see it. For cran out loud. It's fantastic.

(00:37):
There's a scene in the movie where one of the
characters is being tortured, tortured by a computer program. He's
getting tortured by a lot of AI. I guess when
I say competitiant again with this movie and today, And

(00:58):
this is why I decided to bring the up today.
In these being tortured, Morpheus is being tortured by this
computer program and is filling him in on the things
that they tried to do. They try to develop a
world AI the Matrix. They try to develop a world
for human beings where there would be no problems, no issues,

(01:22):
but human beings wouldn't take to it, and he said,
whole crops were lost. Now and seeing the movie, human
beings are basically batteries, batteries for tech AI that has
taken over. There's a line in that torture scene and
he talks about how, you know, the matrix, what we're

(01:43):
living in, what the people were living in, but they
weren't really living in it. They were plugged into it.
Their brains were doing because again, there were nothing more
than batteries. He said, once we started thinking for your civilization,
that's it, that's it, and that's you know, they call
that the peak, the peak of their civilization. That's where

(02:05):
they plugged all the human beings into. He described it
as evolution. He also goes off on this other rant
you talking about how human beings aren't really mammals. There
are virus. Let's take that and put that aside. Are
we limiting a matrix? No, I don't think that we're

(02:26):
plugged in anywhere, powering anything. But we most certainly as
a society, many of you out there, maybe you out there,
are allowing the matrix AI algorithms to think for you. You know,

(02:49):
how do you think these algorithms work. How do you
think these algorithms work. They're there to figure you out.
They're figuring you out. They want to feed you. They
want to feed you in your X feed, your TikTok,

(03:09):
your Instagram, your Facebook, whatever they think is going to
get you to pay attention and stay online longer. That's
how they're designed. They're not there to show you the
other side of a debate or a problem. They're there

(03:31):
to feed you crap I get. I get emails every
single day. I get pitched every single day by all
of these, uh these algorithm gurus, and they're like, you know,
typical pitch, Like your content is fantastic, all the stuff

(03:55):
you're putting out online, it's awesome, your file, all this stuff,
the amount of time people or engagement. I get these
things all the time. I don't know whether or not
they're bs and me or not, but what they're basically
what they're one of the things that they're telling me
I need to do if I want to be more successful,
if I want to have more followers, if I want
to get in front of more people, I have to

(04:17):
compromise my integrity. Basically what they tell me. They don't say that,
but they're saying it. I have to pick aside. I
have to pick a side. The algorithms don't know how
to deal with Markowski. They don't. They don't know how

(04:40):
to deal with Markowski. Hey, the radio networks, they never
knew how to deal with me. Quite frankly either. How
do you push this out an algorithm? Okay, push it
out to conservatives? Well, he says things that piss off conservatives,
but sends it out to the left, you know, the

(05:00):
people that are leaning to Let me piss people off there.
Send it out to people and people in the middle.
It's gonna piss people off there. Who do we send
it off to? They want you to pick something that
that's the way it's designed. Do you think that that's Yeah,
it's healthy. There's good for America. It's good for any

(05:22):
sort of society, you know. I can I read the
New York Times, read the Wall Street Journal, read National Review. Yeah,
sometimes we'll take a look at the Huffington Post. I
look at everything that's that's not what the algorithms are

(05:42):
designed to do. And what does that tell you? Yeah,
we may not be plugged in, they may not be
using our bodies. Uh yet as batteries. But they're telling
us how to think matrix. They're thinking for our civils

(06:03):
that they're pushing that type of content out. This is
a disaster. It's a disaster for our country. It really is.
I can't tell you, and I make this perfect. If
you're making all the time, you have to read. You
have to put the phone down, you have to put
pick up books, you have to read alternative content, both sides.

(06:30):
What they're doing to us and what they're doing to
the country. I mean, great for them, great for them,
bad for us. We can't exist as a society like
this at some point in time. And so you got
to take the red pill, right, you got to take
the red pill, and you have to leave the matrix.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
