Chris tackles a shocking statistic: only 30% of Illinois fourth graders meet reading proficiency standards, ranking 29th nationally. Referencing Zoolander’s comedic school for kids who “can’t read good,” he places the blame squarely on parents, arguing it’s their job—not schools’—to ensure kids read proficiently by fourth grade. Markowski calls out negligent parenting and emphasizes raising children as priority one, urging accountability for educational failures. www.watchdogonwallstreet.com

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it will have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski spoils
my mind.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Kids can't read. This is in the state of Illinois,
one out of every three fourth graders are meeting reading
proficiency standards. One out of every three. I brought this
up before that comedy movie Zoolander. There. Remember Derek Zulander

(00:41):
wanted to start a school, the Derek Zulander Center, for
kids who can't read good and who want to learn
to do other stuff good too. I know I cracked
a joke, but it's really not funny. Data from the
National Assessment of Educational Progress report shows that in Illinois,
thirty percent of fourth graders are hitting such standards, and

(01:06):
again that they're twenty ninth in the country. I letlea
just throw this out there. Okay, it's not school's fault.
It's not and I've made this perfectly clear. Okay, if
your kid is not proficient and reading in fourth grade,

(01:29):
that's parents' fault. It's not the school's job to raise
your kid, not the school's job to raise your kid.
That would be your job. That would be your job.
And if you're having a kid under the assumption, under
the assumption that you are just going to drop them

(01:49):
off at daycare and then at school and have these
schools raise your kids all the way through, will you
suck as a parent. I don't know what to tell you. Okay,
not everybody should have kids. Yeah, I know we've got
a problem in this country in regard to demographics and

(02:10):
like people to have more kids, But we'd also like
people to have more kids that will actually educate their kids,
because that's your job. That's your priority one. Okay, if
you're gonna have children, is to raise them properly. And
I'm telling you right now and again, I'm gonna be
very very blunt. Okay, me very blunt. Okay, your kid

(02:34):
is not proficient and reading in fourth grade and you
are the parent that's on you. Watch Dog on Wall
