Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski all.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Right, enough already, Okay, I'm sick and tired. Okay, I'm hearing.
I get Carol Levett out there, you get all these
other congressmen. My mom calls me up. Chris, What do
you think about this investment pledges? This is this a
good thing? Hold on? Okay, everybody back up. About all
of these investment pledges? What was the latest one this

(00:39):
past week was Hyundai. Hyundai is going to be building something, right,
Let's let's go through here. UAE says they're going to
invest one point four trillion. Saudi Arabia says six hundred billion,
Hyundai twenty billion, Apprile five hundred billion, in Vidia over
one hundred billion, Soft Bank, Open Ai and oracle On

(00:59):
hunt billion, Taiwan Semiconductor one hundred billion, Johnson and Johnson
fifty five billion, CMA CGM Group twenty billion, Eli Lilly
two hundred and seventy eight billion, MERK one billion ge aerospace.
I don't know a billion dollars. Oh, I like this
and this is that what I'm Fox, because you know
Fox is fair and balance, right, Trump secures new investments

(01:24):
in US. I'm sorry all these super trump starts out there.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Trump didn't secure shit. Okay, he hasn't secured.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
A damn thing. What will you think all of these
companies are bound by this? Well, you don't think that
they could say, hey, uh nah, we're out at any
point in time. This is again, these are these are

(01:58):
photo ops. Okay, their photo ops. I don't know what
the back I have no idea, Okay, but I ain't
buying any It is bullshit, Okay, nor should you. Okay,
First and foremost, Okay, I don't know. I don't know
what type of deals were cut, what type of tax

(02:19):
credits were given to secure any of this stuff? Okay,
the old devil in the details. I want to see
the fine print when it comes to this stuff. And
I've warned you about this in the past. Nothing nothing
pisses me off more. Okay, Well, yes, I guess that's
not true. Other things pissed me off more. But this

(02:39):
is high on my list is politicians showing up with
golden shovels. Politicians showing up with golden shovels. Oh yeah, wait,
of work to bring this deal here, whether it be
at a local level or whether it be on a
national level. Quick funny story, this is I said, parking back.

(03:04):
Maybe I don't know. Twenty fourteen. I'm living in the
Sarasota Bradenton area. Now, Sarasota's got a lot of people there,
a lot of you know, very very wealthy people that
have a lot of time on their hands. They love
their galas in Sarasota. They love their the oh my god,
all the time. They love their gallas. Actually, the one

(03:26):
legit gala that I know of, and that's the Dick
Vital one. But many of these things are just opportunities
for people to throw parties, just to throw parties. And
I'm watching these things, and I'm watching what they charge
for this charity event. And you know, you got the
fanciest food and open bar and all this stuff. And
I'm saying, well, say, what what what what?

Speaker 1 (03:47):
What?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
WHOA? How much money is this going to the charity? Yeah?
No thanks, I'm not coming Okay anyway, it is what
it is. That's that's Sarasota for you. Okay, neither here
nor there. Put aside, I remember one of the big
things that they had down there is they had I
don't even know if they still have it. They used
to have the Sarasota Film Festival. Oh, oh my god.

(04:12):
All the rich people love this, always trying to see
who what stars they could get. I remember one year
ed Norton to come, and then some grifter came in.
Some grifter came in. It almost reminded me of the character.
This is a great episode of The Simpsons, by the way,
from way back when where the town of Springfield got

(04:33):
a windfall, and see some guy convinced them to build
a monoraim. Anyway, this grifter came in and talked to
them about building a studio. They wanted to build a
movie studio in Sarasota, and they're putting a building in
and I remember one of the things was so off
the charts, ridiculous. They needed to make sure that they
had an airplane hangar at Sarasota Airport for private planes

(04:57):
for people coming in. And then I took a look
at guy and the television show that he was producing.
It was some Miami cop show. That was honestly, you
know how you get those really crappy shows on Netflix.
It wasn't even worthy of that. The production value, it
was absolute crap. But everybody, oh my god, all the

(05:21):
fancy panthers and Fara Thoat are getting all excited about
their movie studio. Oh my god. And then you get
politicians out there with their golden shovels, their golden shobby.
Oh they did a big, big, big big thing. Oh
we got this new otis is gonna be our sound
stage studio. And it was in Lakewood Ranch, not far
from where I lived. By the time I left this

(05:42):
around two thousand, yeah, twenty sixteen. But before then, about
a year year and a half before that, that sound
stage was a bounce house for kids. Yeah, stop buying
this crap. Okay, stop okay until the check is there,
and I'm gonna tell you the checks in the mail.

(06:03):
Until they're actually doing something. Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
I don't buy anything that these politicians are telling us.
I don't care if it's Trump, I don't care if
it's buying doesn't make any freaking difference.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Okay, I don't buy it. Well, you don't think that
these politicians love get in front of a podium. Look
what I just there. Because of me, we got this
investment here. Shot up. Business is going to do what's
prudent for them. And I'm gonna give you an example
of this massive screw up. We're going to go back
to two thousand and seventeen. I've covered this before. There's

(06:38):
Donald Trump, Donald Trump and Scott Walker, who was the
governor of Wisconsin. Wisconsin. Yeah, Fox Con announced it was
considering through Florida, Florida. Well, we're considering considering coming to Wisconsin.
In two thy seventeen. Bout a boom by the big
wow o Trump. Here's that, Scott Walker, here's that. Oh

(07:00):
my god, this is wonderful. We're going to do all
sorts of stuff FoST cons. We're going to build a
ten billion dollar plant in Wisconsin. And this was for
I guess it was for It was for screens. It
was actually for television screens. And I'm saying myself, get
that get out of here. I said, there's no way

(07:24):
how is this possible for this to ibe feasible the
costs that are involved. I mean, you can go to
a Walmart or a Costco and pick up a flat
screen TV for one hundred and fifty two hundred bucks. Now,
I'm just wasn't buying it. It was a generation ten
point five facility was going to build large LCD screens.

(07:48):
I didn't buy it. Then yeah, oh yeah, that the
state legislature passed a two point eight five billion dollar
tax incentive package that were acquired Fox cond of made
certain hiring and investment benchmarks. Uh huh. It had also
got one hundred and fifty million dollar break in sales taxes.

(08:10):
Was about a three billion dollar package. Then the company said,
now we're not gonna do large screens again. They started
assembling servers and electronic products. Eventually the thing just didn't exist.
And then you know, when nothing was there. I guess
the one main building was used as a wedding haul

(08:33):
for a period of time. Biden comes in and up
being do the same thing. Biden goes out to the
fox Con plant. He talks about, Hey, Microsoft is gonna
build a big server farm up here. He was making
fun of Trump and their golden shovel. Biden was making
fun of it. Again. I didn't see me anything being
done there at this point in time. People, Okay, donkey

(08:58):
elephant their politicians. Okay, you know, look at you is
really trying I get that. Okay, I always really trying hard.
But you know, you're buying into all this US investment.
It's a pledge, it's a play, and you know what,
it doesn't mean anything. It's a freaking show man. And

(09:22):
this is again what I strongly recommend for people is
again to put down your damn tribe, okay, and be
a critical thinker. Be a critical thinker. If you're a
critical think if you can criticize your own side and
the bullshit that they're throwing out, you're doing the right thing. Okay,

(09:45):
I hope what do you think I'm rooting against this?

Speaker 1 (09:48):
No?

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I hope that these investments come through. Do I think
it's gonna No? No, probably not. Watchdog on Wall Street
