Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Don't Conform, Think Different last week on the radio show,
and I think it might have done a podcast on
it as well. I can't remember talked about about this
country and really what separates this country from many places
around the globe. It's not the first time that I've
discussed this. One of the best things, greatest things about
(00:40):
the United States of America is it's okay to fail.
We encourage failure. We encourage people to go out and
take risks. When I'm talking about not conforming, because again,
that's that's what people naturally want to do. In time work, kid,
(01:05):
I want to be with the cool people. I want
to fit in. I want to conform to what everyone
else is doing. Let me ask you a question. Let
me ask a question. Can you name for me a
single groundbreaking business, game changer out there, star business that
(01:34):
just basically went along with everybody else, just conformed. There
was a phenomenal advertisement, There was an Apple advertisement many
many moons ago, and it was I was narrated by
Richard Dreyfuss, and it was, you know, talking about the dreamers.
(01:56):
It was their Think Different campaign and showing all of
these various different people from Picasso to Martin Luther King
Junior to John Lennon, all these Albert Einstein, all of
these people that didn't conform, that went outside the box.
(02:18):
And obviously these were big dreamers. But this is something
that you need to do in your every day life.
You don't want to be like everyone else. You want
to be separate, you want to be a part. And
I'll get into that a little bit. To think about
(02:39):
it for a second, think about the advancement and technology,
the devices that you're using today. The companies that are here,
the ones that end up surviving, are the ones that
end up breaking the mold doing things differently. Take a look,
(03:04):
take a look at the think with the iPod. Think
that device was so different, so much better than anything
else that was out there. It basically destroyed every other company.
How you remember how many companies, how many people had
(03:26):
those original MP three players. I remember I had a
little rio one maybe it held about eighty songs on
it way back when, and even after that, I mean
they had you know, remember the Zoon came out, was
that Microsoft was trying to like cop basically only turned
to do is they tried to copy what Apple was doing,
(03:48):
and then even do it, Well, why would you even
bother doing that? Why even participate unless you're going to
try to do better, try to improve retail. You know,
everybody you know takes a look at Amazon and what
they're capable of doing revolutionizing retail, even Walmart for that matter.
(04:12):
Let's let's talk about Amazon, and I was there. Yeah,
there was the dot com boom, the whole dot com retail.
Everything was changing at that point in time. Everyone knew
what was going on. And there was this company called
Amazon and it sold books online. So what's the big
(04:37):
deal there? Nothing really. There was companies that were selling
CDs online. There was companies that were selling pet food online.
There was a lot of internet retailers that were popping up.
All you needed was a dot com attached to your name,
and people were throwing money at you. They recognized that
(04:57):
and they changed. They separated themselves from everybody else, and
that's the reason why they succeeded. Many companies have FedEx
so many different companies. We can take a look at that,
even you take a look at my company. What we
(05:22):
did at Markowski Investments completely broke the mold for family offices.
Every you know, we were told again and again again,
don't do this, don't do that, and can't have it.
You can't have a radio show. Then if you have
a radio show, it has to be buy, sell and hold.
This is not gonna make it. No, no, no, no no.
(05:43):
You can't help those people. You have to put minimums
on account size, the type of services that you guys
got to be at least have to have a million
dollar minimum. All of this stuff. And we proceeded to
tell everybody to take a long walk off short peer.
To put it nicely, No, we didn't conform. We did
(06:07):
things differently. You're gonna hear throughout your entire life. Okay,
there's just some advice people out there. You can't it's
not possible. That's not been done before. That's not gonna work. No, no, no,
no no. What's the worst thing that's going to happen
(06:29):
If they end up being right, they give you a CEE.
I told you so, so what at least you had
the cojones to go out and try. And that's that's
truly what's going to lead to success. That again, that's
what makes this country great. This is what separates us
(06:52):
from Europe. Europe is dying. It really is. I can't
tell you how bad their situation is over there. In essence,
we're gonna have, I mean, what they really need in Europe.
They really need a massive injection of I want to say,
(07:13):
maga energy, Okay, the good kind. They need animal spirits,
they need to have access to capital. I did that
bit about the several weeks ago here on the program
the person from the UK that was over here on business.
(07:33):
The difference between being in the United States and being
over there, it's a completely different mentality. You have to
do things differently. You do not have to conform. You
don't want to conform in anything fitting in. I just
(07:55):
want to fit in. That's like nails on a chalkboard.
And I'm going to leave you with something that again.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
This is.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Faith based. The O the word holy. People hear the
word that you know that you know holy holy? This
they think that so many people think it's it's it's
somehow magical to some degree. What holy actually really means
(08:27):
just means set apart. It is set apart, and this
is let me share this with you no matter what
faith you are. Okay, you can't argue this. This is
from Saint Peter. Your heart should be holy and set
apart for the Lord God. Always be ready to tell
(08:48):
everyone who asks you why you believe as you do,
Be gentle as you speak, and show respect. Again, I
admit that's something that I have to work on. Keep
your heart telling you that you have done what is right.
If men speak against you, they will be ashamed when
(09:10):
they see the good way you have lived as a Christian.
God wants you to suffer. Is better to suffer for
doing what is right than for doing what is wrong.
Just think about that and how that's applicable to everything.
