Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it we'll have on everyday americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst and trader Chris Markowski.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Okay, Josh Holly, Josh Holly and Free Food EBT. Josh
Holly is a Republican Senator from Missouri, and I questioned
him quite often here and some of the statements that
he has made. He just put out a piece entitled,
(00:38):
no American should go to bed hungry. No Americans should
go to bed hungry. And again, if we're going to
follow the same logic line, no American should be without home,
No Americans should be without healthcare. I mean what else?
No Americans should be without transportation. My question to Josh
(01:04):
is where does it end? Where does it end? And
is this the responsibility of the taxpayers of the United
States or maybe this should be the responsibility of institutions
within the community churches for example. So Holly puts out
a piece here, the federal government has been shut down
(01:25):
for twenty eight days in counting. That's twenty eight two
is to long, and already the second longest federal shutdown. Okay,
He says, Saturday is going to be a grim milestone.
Forty two million Americans will lose federal food assistance. Josh, No,
it's grim is that there are forty two million Americans
getting food assistants. Forty one in eight Americans is on
(01:53):
food assistance. Now, he's saying, Congress must not let that happen.
He says, America is a great and wealthy nation. Josh,
This great and wealthy nation that you speak of is
thirty eight trillion dollars in debt. Thirty if I have,
(02:18):
if I have a house and a car and a
boat and all these just I'm playing pretend out there,
maybe a second home and whatever it may be. And
I am, you know, fifty million dollars in debt and growing.
Am I wealthy or am I broke? Am I wealthy
(02:43):
or am I broke? Anyway? Our most important wealth is
our generosity of spirit. We help those in need, We
provide for the widow, and the orphan love of neighbor
is part of who we are. The Scripture's injunction to
remember the poor as a principal Americans have lived by
(03:04):
its time. Congress does the same. You guys have been
doing this since the nineteen sixties, Josh, war on poverty
has failed miserably, and you're suggesting that we're going to
keep doing the same thing. We shouldn't reform this, Josh.
(03:26):
Everybody is seeing right now where the money's going. Everybody
is all the information is coming out, how much is
actually going to Americans, and how much is going to
people that shouldn't even be here in the first place.
There's one of the largest magnets of bringing people here
to the United States is free stuff. Josh. Government shutdown
(03:49):
has already touched countless lives, and not for the better.
Key service has been curtailed on hundreds of thousands of
federal employees, air traffic goals, Capitol police are working without pay.
But letting federal FEO assistants laps would introduce an entirely
new stage of suffering. The best solution would be to
pass a clean funding bill to reopen the government. But
if that can't be done, Congress the very least needs
(04:09):
have passed my bill to ensure food assistance continues uninterrupted.
Millions of Americans rely on food assistants just to get by.
Yes known as food stamps. It's the lifeline that permits
the needed to purchase basic food items at the grocery store,
basic food items. Do you know the number one item,
(04:30):
the number one item paid for by food stamps is soda.
It's fact that's the number one food item is soda.
We want to do this, Why don't we? Why don't
we talk about what one can purchase with these food stamps.
(04:56):
He's talking about. You know, last year's SNAP enrollies hit
about forty two million, twelve percent of the American population.
And again it gets a bunch of anecdotal stories and
a guest. I know, like I said, people people need
help from time to time, and I'm all for that.
(05:17):
Like I said, I'm all for that, But getting people addicted,
which we have done to handouts and give ways is
not a good thing. It's not and that's what we've done.
And both Democrats and Republicans use these handouts and give
ways to help themselves to get re elected. I did
(05:39):
a piece, did a piece wow fifteen years ago, a
little over fifteen years ago, thank you for not voting.
And you know, at the time, I was talking about
actually citing a movie the distinguished Gentleman with Eddie Murphy,
and there was a race that was taking place South Carolina,
(06:00):
which was quite humorous at the time. But anyway, let's
skip past all of that. I posed some suggestions in
regards to improving our voting laws in the United States
and obviously getting rid of stupid voter registration drives which
are nonsensical. Also talking about the anchor baby controversy, Sedizen
(06:26):
Rights of children and illegal immigrants talked about that as well,
And here's one that ruffled many people's feathers. But I
don't and I believe that this is I believe that
this is reasonable. Quite frankly, you shouldn't be allowed to participate.
(06:46):
I'm gonna read exactly what I put here. You didn't
get to participate in our electoral process if you're living
off or are getting aid from your fellow citizens. And
my logic as simple. I pay the mortgage, the utilities,
and the other bills of my household. Therefore, my kids
(07:07):
do not get to determine their bedtime. Again, fifteen years ago,
kids are beyond that. Now. We are a benevolent country
with social safety nets that I have no problem with
as long as they are not abused. However, if you
are living off the benevolence of the citizenry, I don't
think you should have a say and how the country
(07:30):
is being run. Once one gets off public assistance, they
can participate in our republic again, no problem. Once you
get off public assistance, you can vote again. Now people
have suggested that only property owners or taxpayers be allowed
to vote. I disagree with this because whether one pays
(07:53):
income tax or not, he or she is still in
a perpetual state of paying taxes. That's just the way
things are. I know this may sound harsh, but I
think it is more callous than an uninformed, state subsidized
voter who decides to vote for someone based solely on
the fact that their choices choices name sounds like they're
(08:15):
you know, I again, someone who's gonna be there paying
their bills. And it's this not reasonable. I pose this
to Josh, all, is that a reasonable? Why don't we
do that? Why don't we fix the system because we
know the system is a mess. The fact that you
(08:36):
know as well as I do, Josh, that forty two
million people that are getting food stamps, many of them
don't deserve foodstamp. We all know this. Watch the freaking
videos everywhere. Now they're posting the pride and gaming the system.
Josh again, this is Josh Hall. He's a politician and
he's looking to move on to greater things. Maybe he's
(08:57):
going to play the populist card and try to run
as the compassionate conservative for president someday. That's the way
it sounds like to me. But does this solve the problem?
Are we dealing with the fact that, you know, the
funny thing is this, and this is true. They actually tried.
This is several years ago. They tried to reform what
(09:20):
one could get, what one could get using food stamps,
and you know, the Coca Cola lobbied the hell out
of Congress to make sure that soda wouldn't be taken
off that list. Yeah, I'm making this up. Look it up.
