Chris addresses the sharp decline in U.S. tourism, citing a nearly 10% year-over-year drop in international visitors. He notes Canadians and Mexicans are opting for destinations like Mexico, while Europe sees significant declines, and Asia barely holds steady. Key hotspots like Las Vegas and Miami struggle, with easy restaurant reservations signaling trouble. Markowski ties this to Trump’s tariffs and policies, echoing his Q1 GDP contraction analysis (0.3% drop, 41.3% import surge), and warns of economic fallout unless perceptions improve. www.watchdogonwallstreet.com

Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Watchdog on Wall Street podcast explaining the news coming
out of the complex worlds of finance, economics, and politics
and the impact it will have on everyday Americans. Author,
investment banker, consumer advocate, analyst, and trader Chris Markowski.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Is tourism tanking here in the United States. Well, again,
I am not going to go through and do a
play by play of the entire Terry Moran Donald Trump interview,
but I do want to point this out. I've been
collecting information in regards and it was also interesting as well,
is some of the reports from some of the major

(00:39):
travel booking sites Booking dot Com, Kayak, Priceline, whatever it
may be. They've been basically echoing what the raw data
has been saying. Their numbers quite good as far as
travel is concerned. But what they're saying is that people

(00:59):
are changed their plans. Rather than Canadians saying they were
going to come to the United States on vacation, they're
changing and they're going to Mexico. You can take a
look at the raw data. When it comes to airports,
we are welcoming I mean a lot, a lot fewer

(01:22):
international tourists. They were down almost ten percent year over year,
Canada down, Mexico down, Europe way down. Asia kind of
maybe holding its own to some degree, but not good overall.
And reports coming from various different vacation hotspots for international travels.

(01:46):
Las Vegas not doing that well. Miami right now is
again it's an international hotspot as far as tourists are concerned.
No trouble, no trouble getting a reservation at restaurants when
usually you're going to have to book way in advance.

(02:09):
Not not a good sign as far as tourism is concerned. Again,
the overall trends over the next several years, quite frankly,
are good. Again, we rub some people the wrong way,
I guess, And you know when you are you know

(02:31):
you live in a world where there's a myriad of
different places where people can go on vacation and choose
to go on vacation. Just as much as you know
you're a restaurant, people have a million different choices when
to go to or a store, whatever it may be.
You don't want to rob customers, your possible customers the

(02:53):
wrong way. So hopefully, hopefully you know the raw nerve
that we hit with many of these areas, hopefully that
will go away and we can get this uh tourism
back on track. But yeah, as far as that part's
that's where I'm going to end with that whole Terry Moran,
Donald Trump, you know, conversation that they had, debate, interview,

(03:17):
whatever you want to call it. But as far as tourism,
Moran was right on that point. Tourism uh down way
down here in the United States. Watchdog on Wall Street

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
