Speaker 1 (00:27):
Well, hello everybody, this is way fair and strangers, and
as always, I am Jack and I'm joined by Andrew.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Why Hello, and Joel Hello Hello.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
I think I'm gonna start introducing Joel first, because every
time I say Andrew, you push the Joel button and
then you say hello. So isn't that the order of operations?
It's like Jack, Joel Andrew.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Jj A, let's go.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yeah, I'm happy either way.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I'm just happy to be here, you know, I know
I'm happy. I'm happy to be here as well with you,
of course. But we yes, it's a little late this week.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Again, we told you the flow, the flow is going
to be what it is during.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
The last cast and the last of us on HBO.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Season, and we're doing our best. We're doing our best
Hound Andrew pretty much to just be like this has.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Been a week so far, it continues to be, you know,
the adulting continue. The adulting will continue until morale improves.
Is the theme that I've been experiencing recently.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
And so yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Sure, I'm not complaining about being busy and having a
lot of work, which is always nice, but also, oh
my god.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, why is everyone a lot of time?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Why is everyone's deadline on the same day. M Yeah,
which so happens to be the day that we have
to released an episode, I know.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
And then you know, you were out one whole day
this week and then had you know, another job last night.
Like it just so that's just kind of the week
that we've been dealing with. And meanwhile, I was at
the movies last night with our kid like life.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, but hey, I was also at I was at
I was at the theater. A different manner of viewing,
a different manner of thing. But you know, I like
my job, so that's good.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, No, I'm I'm glad.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
What do you always say, if you like what you do,
you never.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
I mean, I'm certainly not responsible for that quote, but
if you love what you do, you never work a
day in your life.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
There it is, Yeah, And I find that, you know,
I don't love when I have to leave the house mostly,
do you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
I feel like maybe a lot of people can relate
to that. You've most people cultivate their home to be
a place that they like to be in, and so
when things take you away from it, you're like, well,
I don't have any of my creature comforts, my stuff,
my comfy couch, this pillow that I like, my chair,

(03:16):
you know. So it's like, now I'm in this other place,
this chair feels weird, my back Hurt's like, yeah, that's all.
But I like my work, you know, I would never change.
That's that's great. I get to meet great people, do
the things that are creatively fulfilling, all that good stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
So yeah, but if.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
You could, if you're like, hey, you just be a
full time talk about the last of us podcaster, I
wouldn't say no to that either.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
So you know, I know, is there anyone out there
that wants to pay us like fifteen thousand dollars a
month for this, because that'd be great for two podcasts.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Substantial that's a substantial that's a substantial fee.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So all of that, aside the busyness, the life, the work,
the love of work for some of us, and podcasting
and all that good good stuff. Let's get into our
email shows because we are so near the finish line
and it's time to get on with it.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
So I'm going to take the first one.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Let's go, and I foresee two emails this episode. We'll see,
we shall see. Because we're also on a little bit
of a time limit today as well, but this one
is from Wendell A from February thirteenth, twenty twenty five,
and Wendell says, hey, guys, I just listened to the
episode where you read my email and first things first,

(04:42):
go words.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Fuck. Yeah. This was four days after we won the
Super Bowl this year.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Just FYI, yes, so we're all still feeling the love.
I was really happy the Eagles won, and something that
never happens when.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I watch Philly sports, I feel you. I feel you, Wendell.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I was calm from the second the game kicked off.
I somehow knew they were gonna win. I just didn't
know they would beat the brakes off the jeeves.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
This is this is.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
In the future, so I just know the parade was
insane and I hope no one got hurt climbing the
light poles.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
So yeah, one.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Weirdly enough, I felt the same way, like I had
high tension that entire week, but when we sat down
to watch that game, I was like, We're gonna fucking win,
like I knew it, And even Andrew had sent those
pictures to the Discord of me just sitting and crying
like hiding my face with my hands or my sweatshirt
or whatever I was doing. I mean, like I wanted

(05:39):
to just like run around the couch and scream and jump,
but I was like, no, I need to just remain calm.
That's the key here, to chill the fuck out.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
And they and they did. They belt to ass and
we did it. But so two things. The parade was amazing. Wendel.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Sure, I did not go because there was two million
people down there, and I know myself, I would have
been completely overwhelmed and just not a good time.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Personally, my personally, my limit is one million people. I
can deal with one million, but when we get to
two million, that's that's pushing it, you know, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Two million Philadelphians, that's have fun. So but the other thing,
he's uh, Wendell said, I hope no one got hurt climbing.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
The light pole.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
So nobody got hurt the parade day, but someone actually
did die. I think after we won the NFC East Championship.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, in Philly, they climbed the light pole and he
was like seventeen years old and he fell and died.
So that's that's why they greased the light poles in Philly,
and it's it's stupid that people still do that. Is
it funny to watch on the news, I'm sure across
the country. Yeah, assuming no one gets hurt. Yeah, it's
very funny to watch this incredibly dumb feet of it's

(07:02):
not even strength, it's more just like endurance. Yeah, it's drunkenness.
It's just an incredible feat of drunkenness. That's all that is. Yeah,
So yeah that was said. I don't think anything happened
when we actually won the Super Bowl, thankfully I don't.
But yeah, that was unfortunately, the one thing that did

(07:23):
happen this year. But pushing forward through the email, thank
you for the belated birthday wishes, and Andrew. Happy belated
birthday to you too, you beautiful Irish man. What the
guinness is on me?

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Oh? Sluntia, slauntia.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Now further updates from where I left you guys the
last time. Yes, I am already employed again. Hell yeah,
I told you guys. It was just a one month
vacation and now I'm earning more and doing less in
a much better environment.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
So yay. And I love the and I love the
fun employment.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Andrew, That's exactly what it was during this month I
thoroughly enjoyed playing my PS five every day. I did
take many pictures from part one, but that fucking game
is so good that I got fully immersed again and
needed to beat it, and I wanted to beat it
so I could unlock the other attires for Joel and Ellie.
So soon enough, I'll be back there now just to
take pictures. Yes, yeah, One, I love that your fun

(08:27):
employment was just that it was fun. And two I
we're because season two of the Last of Us is
on again.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Now I want to go.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
And take pictures of Joel from part two. So that's
going to be whenever I'm not doing podcast worship, That's
what I'm going to be doing hopefully. Yeah, and we'll see,
we'll see how that ends up.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
That's yeah, that's good.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Just cheers to the fun employment, happy that happy it
was short, and that you're back to work and loving
the new gig. More money and less work is a
winning company.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
It's true, it was very true.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
But I started playing Ghosts of Sushimi again and Death Stranding,
which are also unbelievably stunning on the PS five, and
then I upgraded my part two for the PS five
and took many photos there as well. Seriously, every single
every single step you take in part one and part
two is worth stepping to find the right angles, lighting, etc.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
To take a picture.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
It does look better than any other recent game. Shit
Part two on the PS four looks better than a
lot of newer games. Still completely agree, Yeah, I'm completely agree.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Weirdly enough, I am playing Death Stranding again, m kind
of in prep for the second one that's coming out,
But every time I look at that Stranding, I'm like.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
This game is remarkable as well.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Like first party Sony devs are not messing around ever.
So yeah, yeah, they just make beautiful games.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, I agree, and I Andrew convinced me to download
Death Stranding, so I have that queued up and excuge
the deal.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
There's a chance that you're not gonna understand it or
maybe even like it, but from a pure gameplay mechanic standpoint,
it's just so compelling. It's so no game controls like
Death Stranding controls in my estimation.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Okay, that's a big sell.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
So I'm definitely curious and I will report back.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
When I start playing it. To everyone listening, it's exciting.
So here we go. Continuing in the game talk.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Now I'm preparing to play Uncharted four again, but now
with the full power of the PS five. Let's see
what photos come out of that too. So weirdly enough,
when they released Uncharted four for PS five, I did
go and spend about an hour, hour and a half
starting that game, because I did play all four Uncharted
games and love them.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
There's five though there's five, I know, I didn't play
the fifth one. The legacy unbelievable. What a slack No,
I know, How dare you do this to my girl?

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Sorry, I'm sorry, I listen. I love the Uncharted franchise.
It is very like it's Blockbuster. Does it have moments
of hard hitting, impactful story elements, Absolutely, because Naughty Dog.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
But overall it's it's.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Just Indiana Jones and Josh Gates from Expedition Unknown meets.
It's just wonderful. It's it's a wonderful series. It's fun.
It's popcorn and.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I compliment sandwich. I'm tasting compliment in this sandwich. Sure,
but it is a compliment sandwich. Nevertheless, You're right, You're not.
It's amazing.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
It's amazing popcorn popcorn last night. Yeah, it's the best popcorn.
It's got butter on it and salt and it's good popcorn. Yeah, see,
you get it.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
But I did go in and take a bunch of
pictures from Uncharted four because it looks it does look
beautiful on PS five. So yeah, if if you've been
posting any of those shots, Wendell, I'll have to go
and creep you on Twitter and see and see you
see what's what. But yes, the currency stuff does suck
here in Brazil, unfortunately, but we do have universal healthcare here,

(12:32):
so I'm guess, so I guess I'm happy with that trade,
No shade, damn.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
What would I rather have?

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Universal healthcare or more affordable PlayStation consoles? It's a six
and one hand, half a dozen in the other.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
You know, I know, And obviously Andrews being facetious.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
More affordable consoles, yes, of course, obviously I'm kidding.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
I'm kidding.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Yeah, But we're not going to fall down that hole.
And honestly, Wendel, you can throw all the shade at
America for our pisspoor healthcare so and everything else.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Really we're really fucking this thing up, you know. Unfortunately,
that's true. That's true.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I don't have anything to say about the last of
us at the moment because I'm waiting for you guys
to start part two.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
So back to Philly sports. It is all right. I'll
be back in a couple of minutes. You get back
here right now.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Jack, I'm glad you remembered the amazing fact that the
Eagles played the first game of the season here. Even
more amazing, the stadium they played in, or played at,
is my team stadium. The Corinthians is their name. I'm
wearing their jersey in my email photo. Unfortunately, I wasn't
able to go because the tickets sold out in like
ten minutes. But it was incredible to watch my beloved

(13:45):
Eagles play literally in my home ground. I cannot even imagine.
First of all, I mean I watch every game of
the Eagles season, and it was so exhilarating. I love
the overseas games when they go to London and now
when they went to Brazil, like it's just it's so

(14:05):
much fun to see the crowds, to feel the energy
from around the world for my home team, and it
was in Fuckingsane in Brazil. So I if there was
any game that I wish that I could go to
apart from the super Bowl, it would have.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Been that one.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
So I'm sad that you weren't able to make it,
because holy shit, sold out in ten minutes. I'm not surprised,
although I'm curious how.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Expensive were those tickets? Can you let us know, Wendell, please?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yeah, I'm sure there's I'm sure, just like everything else,
there were there were tears to it, but there's an
exclusivity that is like this is a not necessarily just
a one time thing, but like it's just this one
time this year. Now, it'll probably be next year also,
but just once this year. Oh that's right, Well, who
knows who it'll be though, you know what I'm saying,

(14:54):
but like you get it, you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, yeah, I have two other fun facts.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Our biggest rivals here, a century old rival, wear green uniforms.
So our fan base absolutely loathes green, which is why,
which is why it was advised to the Eagles that
they wore their black pants and helmets and white shirts,
which are my team's colors. The Eagles are really the

(15:21):
only team that I like that have green as green
as their primary colors.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
Yeah, it's a special green though, well both of the
greens are special. It's like at the Kelly Green with
the traditional one which is beautiful, and then this new,
the newer Midnight green.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Which could be you know, blueish.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
You could make an argument that it's more blue or
teal if you were feeling spicy.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
So yeah, I think you're covered. Yeah, you're safe. You're safe.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Plus again, it's not it's not the rival team. That's
not the rival, you know, it's the it's the bars.
So they get a little they get a little way
room because they've never been there before, I hope at least.
But the other fun fact is that we have organized
fan bases here for teams, and the biggest one, Corinthians
has has a hawk for a mascot, and it's so

(16:16):
much cooler than the official mascot that the team has,
which is a musketeer.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
It's blame wait, a musketeer a musketeer.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
At one of the games last year, a little kid
wore a hawk slash eagle mask and I just wanted
to share this with you, so please check it out.
So we do love our birds here too, we have
that in common. We are the biggest fan base for
any team here in Brazil, over thirty million fans overall.
You can look it up and our nickname literally translates
to loyal fans. So yeah, I think that's why I

(16:48):
gravitated towards Philly teams and fans. Y'all share a bit
of our insanity and passion too.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
That's it. I'm already making y'all honor a Corinthians fans.
You have no choice in the matter. Done.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Also, I love this picture. I don't know, Andrew, if
you're looking at it, it's great and it's amazing. This
like giant and that is Eagle because it's white. It's like, yeah,
it's fantastic. It is fantastic, like even down to the
hooked beak, the hooked beak, like it's so good.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
It's like a real Like.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
I've seen our mascot for the Eagles. It's named Swoop Swoop,
and I have had the opportunity to film down at
the stadium for the Eagles and for their sponsors and stuff.
So I've seen Swoop up close, and I'll be honest
with you that that costume is garbage. It's not good.
It does up close it looks cheap as hell. This

(17:47):
from even far away looks so much better than Swoop does.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
I wonder if it was handmade. It's it looks incredible.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
That's one of those things where they're like, oh, yeah,
it's paper mache, and I'm like, you know, it could
be if you know. Some fan was like, yeah, I
just I just threw this together over a weekend or whatever,
and I'm like, this is literally better than the official
Eagles costume.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Oh yeah, by far, Swoop is very cartoony. Yeah he's he's.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
A little too. He's a little dirty. Actually, he's a
little dirty. Whereas the Corinthians fan base here this this
one wonderful fan. This eagle looks mean, like an actual
traditional eagle looks like and just fun fact because I
still am obsessed with the Jackie and Shadow big Bear Eagles.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Yeah yeah, And I.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Have learned so much over the past few months. Female
eagles are bigger than the male eagles by about twenty
five percent, that's across the board in the Bald Eagle Kingdom.
And they have a sterner look, so a more menacing
like it's called it's called a super orbital race, I believe.

(19:01):
And they're just meaner on female eagles. So when you
look at the Philadelphia Eagle's logo that's modeled after a
female eagle, there you go, do you just want to
put that out there. It's a wonderful thing.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
There's what I'll say.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
I just I just did a quick look of Swoop,
and I know exactly what the problem is.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Is it the eyes. It's the eyes eyes.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
Well, not even that the eyes are too close together,
like the eyes need to be a little bit more
on the side of the face, not like the eyes
of Swoop are basically like human eyes, like two on
the front, and but eagle eyes are like because they
are predators. They you know that thing in nature. Right,

(19:43):
It's like, I don't know, it's just it just doesn't
look good. But this eagle that we're looking at, the
eyes are in the right spot. They're they're like offset.
It's perfect, that's all.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I like.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
How we're Gobert. Look, we have the Philadelphia people. You know,
we talk a lot about the Eagles here, but we
have many other teams, and we have two of the
best mascots in sports bar none.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
The Philadelphia Fanatic is often rated as number one. If
you're like best sports mascots, at least in the United States,
the fanatic usually tops the list.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah, and he better always topped the one.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
There's just no better mascot in sports, right, And more
recently it hasn't always been the case, but more recently
we have Gritty, who.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Is like.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
The fanatics fucked up cousin, you know, like and he
is also he has also jumped like we all hated
him at first, and then everyone else hated him, and
now we love him because you know, he's great.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
Gritty is a little bit, a little bit of an
adjustment period. We just I loved him immediately. Yes, hates
my sister Loaths.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
He's a very Yeah, he's a very polarizing figure. Gritty,
but I g R I T T Y I. I
recommend you look up Gritty, you know, Flyers Philadelphia, Gritty,
whatever you want to, whatever you want to do. And
then put him next to the Fanatic, and you could
see that there was like, oh, these these things are related.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Kind of these creatures, they're very muppety. Yeah, we just
need that reboot for Swoop. We need to we need
to wipe the slate clean. And he could still be
an eagle. He could be.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Green or white or what like. Whatever we want to do,
we just need not what we have. He needs to
be more.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Yeah. Yeah, he's like an athletic bird is like the Mets.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Have you ever seen mister met It's just a fucking
dude with a baseball head. And I'm like, this is
the I don't even like sports, and I know mister
met and.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I hate him.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
He looks it's and I'm sorry if you're a New
Yorkers and if you're if you're a Mets fan, I'm.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Just like not who.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
But it's just the lowest common There had to have
been something else for the Mets. Like it's New York, right,
you have the the what is it? The what are
the other teams up there?

Speaker 2 (22:17):
The Yankees?

Speaker 1 (22:18):
The Yankees and they just have their It's just a why.
But it's like, do they have any No, I don't
think so. Not every team has a mask, okright, so
there's also that.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
To contend with. So I don't know, man, mister met
I just mister Metz whatever his name is. I just man,
it's just a dude in world. He did Oh my god,
they do have a mascot the Yankees. He they did.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Excuse me from nineteen seventy nine to nineteen eighty one,
John Yankees quietly No.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
He was quietly retired after it was he problematic.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
His name was Dandy and he looks so fucking Andrew.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
I'm not even going to send this. Just please do
it right now. Yankees Dandy, Yankees, Dandy. Let's see. Oh
my god, oh go fuck yourself. What is this? It
looks like it. I'm gonna be what what the fuck
is this thing?

Speaker 3 (23:18):
It's like it's like a fucked up Yosemite Sam from
Looney Tunes.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
You know what I'm saying. Like, yeah, but like shaped
like a testicle upside down? Wow, upside wait picture testicle?
No flipp it.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Now, name it Dandy and paint it white and also
paint Yosemite Sam's face on it.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Now you've got Dandy. That's why it only existed for two.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Years before it was quote quietly retired.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Nineteen seventy nine to nineteen eighty one. It was a
birdlike creature. I would not describe this fucking thing as
a bird. This doesn't look like anything. It looks like
a dude with a badonka donk is what it looks like.
There's no bird. There's no bird. No, I refuse I

(24:12):
actually refuse this.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
I rebuke this in the name of Jesus.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
It seems like New York did also good for them.
They took a stand and they were like, no, put
this back, throw this back into whatever healthscape portal you
pulled it from.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
What is the what is the song though, Yankee Doodle Dandy? Yeah,
Yankee Doodle Dandy. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Yeah, So that's why he obviously that's why he was
named Dandy. But I mean, I would he's given more
doodle than Dandy, to be perfectly honest, and I want everyone, please,
for the love of God, please just google what this
fucking mascot looked like and you'll understand kind of maybe
where my inappropriate mind went.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
I'm I'm you know what, I fucking love mister Met
now because I just saw Dandy. So now mister Met
feels like maybe a God tier, like an S tier costume.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Comparatively comparatively, Yes, yeah, yeah, but but again, even if
mister Met is an S tier comparatively, then the fanatic
is like an S plus plus plus plus.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Yeah. Oh.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
All all that to say, we have some great mascots,
and we we have some great mascots.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
We have, we have the we have two of the best.
And then and then there's a hate Swoop.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I don't hate, I just feel nothing like I look
at Swoop and I feel nothing. And that's a problem
because you should feel, you should feel, you know.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Is wow, who's our good good lord?

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Yeah, I'd like to see the Corinthians have a good mascot.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
So there you go.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Yes, yes, And getting back to Wendel's email, my gosh,
what a tangent.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
But when I go to Philly it will happen. Someday.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
I will definitely take you up on the offer to
hang out, go to a ballgame, to complain about the
Phillies chasing balls in the dirt, and to eat free
cheese steaks, because one thing I won't deny is free food.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Thank you, guys.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
I'll leave you with two questions though, And now we're
getting back to well, First of all, I can't wait
until that happens. Please be sure to like email us
and then we'll link up and figure out a time
to get together, because we are going to a couple
of ball games this year.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
It's gonna be great.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Yeah, and free cheese steaks all around.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
So let's go.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Let's go, but I'll leave you with two questions. What
are your expectations over the new Naughty Dog IP? Intergalactic
the heretic profit? That's a mouthful? And do you think
they closed the door on the last of us at
least for now? Can't wait to hear from you, guys,
Love you, Wendel so boom. What are my expectations over

(27:09):
the new Naughty Dog IP. I think it's gonna be great, Sure,
I think it. Yeah, I think Intergalactic the heretic profit
it is. It is a little mouthy, but I think
it's it's a very strong name thus far. It's very
evocative if nothing else, and and curious, so I'm in

(27:31):
right there. And second, I love space just across the
fucking board. So Naughty Dog making a space game means
I'm gonna have all the fucking feels in the outer rim.
But I don't know if I will love and obsess
over it. That remains to be seen. But I am
excited it will be a day one purchase. And uh yeah,

(27:53):
I think that's the majority of my thoughts on Intergalactic
for right now. But as for and then, Andrew can
answer in a minute.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
When I'm done.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Do I think Naughty Dog closed the door on the
Last of Us? And I'm assuming you're talking about part three.
So we touched briefly on this with the release of
the Last of Us Complete Collection that we just ordered
and will be delivered some I believe July tenth is
when it comes out. That is certainly an indication that

(28:23):
can be easily read into, because when you say something's complete,
that usually means.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
It's done, and it's finished and there will be no
more to this story.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
That's what I do. When I say this is complete,
I mean I will not be making any more of these.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Yeah, So I understand the panic that some people feel
when that new product, that new old product was released.
I lean more on the side of I don't think
that there's going to be a part three, and I'm
pushing aside all of my feelings for Part two, which

(29:00):
I know people are like, no, you're not Jack. I
swear to you I am, because when I look at
the timeline of these games, you have twenty thirteen, the
Last of Us comes out, twenty twenty, the Last of
Us Part two comes out. I believe by twenty sixteen
we were already getting teaser trailers and murmurations of the
Last of Us Part two.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
So three years after the first.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Game came out, we were already hearing about something with
the Last of.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Us Part two.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
We are now five years out from the Last of
Us Part two, and there has not been a single
fucking peep or hint or confirmation or anything. The only
thing that we've had was there was going to be
a Factions and then they fucking scrapped it. Yeah, so
that's not I know, that's not it, but that's still

(29:48):
I feel like that studio power that was being directed
to Factions was rerouted to Intergalactic Yeah. And and now
there was the Last US Part one remaster or remay
excuse me, that came out in twenty twenty two, So
I mean, people could make the argument, well, the team

(30:09):
that should have been working on Part three was probably
part working on Part one for two years or however
long that particular project took. I don't know, but my
gut is telling me it's not looking good for a
part three and that yeah, and that you know, that
was before the collection, the complete collection dropped, So yeah, yeah,

(30:36):
I mean, but at the same time, they haven't openly
said there will not be a part three. And another
part of my brain is like, well, if there wasn't
going to be a part three, why drag this out
and let people write article after article after article and
you know, have all these theories and all these ideas
and this that and the other. Well, I mean one press,

(30:59):
it's it's letting people continue to write about their studio,
about their company, about their games, their properties, this franchise,
and that's lucrative to them. And if they say, well,
it's not going to happen, then all of that stops.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
So yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
I tend to agree with you about this part the
last of us, part two being the closing chapter. My thought,
my big and prevailing thought, is if they have more
story to tell, they're going to parlay that into the
show because it moves faster, they can reach a potentially

(31:37):
wider audience. You know, I know games are a multi
billion dollar business. I know that, but it is limited
by just how many people play video games. There are
just certain people that are just never going to play
video game. So sure, if HBO is shelling out hundreds
of millions and they keep doing that, then that makes
sense as a that is it's not passive money that

(32:02):
Sony Slash Naughty Dog is making. Yeah, but it's a
less active You don't have to staff up and pay
one hundred developers or you know, to just make this money.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
From over here. Sure, right, sure, So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
My thought is that it's done and you want to
They left it in an ambiguous state, I believe, on
purpose to continue to facilitate discussion among the fans, both
new and old. Yep, And I think that's it. I
can't see. There's nothing more for me to personally unless

(32:45):
they came up with something that was just like I
can't imagine what I can't imagine, I guess. But for me,
I'm like, this feels this feels complete. They close the loop.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Yes, And that's coming again from someone who did not
like that game and especially couldn't stand the ending. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
So even for me to like as ambiguous as it was,
I and I'm not going to give away the ambiguity
of the ending that I saw in that because we'll
talk about that when we get to it. But I
just felt like the story of the Last of Us
was about Joel and Ellie, Yes, and there is nothing

(33:30):
more to be told. There, Yeah, because there can't be
anything more told there unless they go back and I
don't think that they're going to go back there in
their own story again.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
I just I don't know.

Speaker 1 (33:46):
That would be such extreme fan service to the vitriol
of the hateful.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
Side of fandom.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
And when I say that I dislike part two and
I can't stand the story, I want to make it
very clear that there's a difference between disliking and like
vehemently just opposing the story and being hateful. I'm not
a hateful person. I'm not sending hateful letters or threats
or this, that or the other. I'm not any of that. Sure,

(34:16):
I just do not like what they did with the story.
That's it. That's literally all comes down to. The story
just sucks for me.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
So Laura Bailey actively on that role.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Okay, god no, never, No, she's a sweetheart in real life.
I love her relationship with Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker
and just you know, they're Ashley and her on critical role.
Like there's just these are real people, these aren't the
fucking characters. And same thing goes to Kitlyn Deaver. Now,
because I talked so much shit about Abby in the

(34:48):
latest episode, but that has nothing to do with Kitlyn Deaver,
has nothing to do with Laura Bailey, and you know,
so all that I can put all of that aside
because it has nothing to.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Do with the story. Those are just the people that
were hired to do a job and they did your
their job. Well that's it. So yeah, I just you.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
Know, that's how I feel about the Last of Us
And that might not be everyone's opinion, and that's okay,
it doesn't have to be. Yeah, So I don't know.
I don't have a solid answer. I think that's what
it comes down to with Andrew and I. We don't
have solid answers. But it's not looking good.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yeah, I lean towards it's done, and I'm okay with that.
As for and just briefly Intergalactic, it's worth looking at
Sony's current plan, let's call it plan.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
Of naming things. I love.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
I love when a company names things. Sure, it's like
one of my favorite things to try to dissect. And
here is Sony's current plan. It seems to me when
things are a direct sequel of a thing, they give
it a number, but when things take place in the

(36:08):
same universe, they give it a subtitles, but that's not
always so, but hear me out. There are some exceptions
to this rule, but I think they're doing this for
onboarding purposes. So the one that comes to mind Horizon
Zero done, Horizon Forbidden West, and then Horizon the Burning Shores,
and then Horizon for Frozen Wilds. Right, no numbers, no numbers.

(36:36):
Horizon is a little bit of an example of an
onboarding thing. The idea there for Sony is they don't
want to put numbers on stuff because I think they
just want you to jump into any one of these
games that might appeal to you, and realistically, you don't
need to have played the first Horizon to enjoy the
second one. They fill you in. They do a pretty

(36:58):
decent job, in my opinion, bringing you up to speed,
letting you know who these still should though you should
one hundred percent you should. Horizon Zero Dunce maybe one
of my favorite games of all time. As many of
you know, Forbidden West's also very, very, very good.

Speaker 1 (37:13):
So you think that Intergalactic the heretic product, product, the
heretic profit is just the start yes of a whole
new work.

Speaker 4 (37:22):
So it'll be like Intergalactic Goal and whatever the next
part of the story name is.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
I think it's I like that Intergalactic is the is
the horizon of that title. And then and the other
example I can give you is Ghost of Sushima. The
sequel is Ghost of Yota. So not the same main character,
same world, not a direct sequel. And so those are

(37:49):
the two things that Sony's like. We have Spider Man,
we have Spider Man two. Then we also have Spider
Man Miles Morales, which is interesting. Again, Spider Man Miles
Morales not a numbered sequel. You can jump right into
that without having played anything else and be good. I
think that's what they're trying to do here with Intergalactic.
This one's the heretic profit A little bit of a mouthful.

(38:10):
I get it, a lot of a lot of consonants,
a lot of you know, but the next one would
be Intergalactic No blah blah blah blah blah. So it
won't be Intergalactic two, and it won't it certainly won't
be Intergalactic.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
The heretic profit too. That's just not a good way. No,
that's terrible. So that's what does that take.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Okay, So, staying with this same vein, when you look
at things like the Last of Us Part one, the
Last of Us Part two that is.

Speaker 5 (38:40):
A full complete story. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you should be playing.
For you to have the best enjoyment of the Last
of Us Part two or Spider Man two, you should
probably play the Last of Us Part one or Spider
Man one.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Yes, you have to.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
But if you want to go and play Ratchet and
Clank Rift apart, you do not have to have played
all previous Ratcheting Clank games.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
So which do you prefer? What do you think is
more impactful?

Speaker 3 (39:12):
I guess from a story perspective, if you like the characters,
then the numbered sequels will always hit harder.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
And be more emotional for you.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
I cried many times in Spider Man two, so sure,
even for side quests in that game, because they were
there was a direct link between these two things. So
I think I think that's the approach. I haven't like
fully formulated this like this thought. This is like the
first time I'm vocalizing it. But I was taking a

(39:45):
look at like how they've begun to name things like
death stranding too.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
I just want to verify. I know it's called on
the beach, but I wonder is it Death Stranding two
on the Beach. I don't know. I think it's.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Death Stranding too on the Beach. So that's the weird
one that has a number and a subtitle, which but
again is Kojima is he is published by PlayStation, but
that's not a PlayStation, so he's doing his own thing.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
That doesn't count. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
I was going to say that's not part of this
arrangement that I have established, but that's we haven't had
a lot of recent first party Sony games that are
new by my estimation at least, and so yeah, this
is where I think we're going. Wow, I think Intergalactic
is going to be great. It's going to be as

(40:39):
good as any other Naughty Dog game is. Maybe we're
going to fall in love with this main character, go
on space adventures, fuck shit up with blasters and laser swords.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
You know, I'm ready. I'm ready that. Okay, that opens
the question for and I know comparison is the thief
of joy. But if I'm looking at stories like the
Last of Us and this post apocalyptic world and this
hard living, you know, just the endure and survive tone

(41:13):
to everything, even from an outsider. If you have never
played the game, which this is obviously I'm not posing
this Teddy one because I could ever played the game.
You're probably not listening to this podcast.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Sure, but if you've never played the game and you
had Intergalactic the heretic profit next to the Last of
Us right in front of you, you're holding them up
and you're quote judging a game by their judging games
by their covers. My gut tells me that as good
as Intergalactic will be, it will not be anywhere near

(41:45):
as hard hitting as the Last of Us, not because
of its setting, but also not because of its setting.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
Does that make sense? Like when I think of.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Space games as a whole, the majority of them are
Horror or Starfield, where Starfield is basically like fucking Fallout
in space. So while there are certainly stories that you
can like dig into in Starfield, and I love that
fucking game, it's probably my favorite Bethesda game. To be

(42:19):
very clear, I don't there is no Last of Us
resonance with Starfield. Do you understand what I'm trying to
get at?

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Like, I don't know if Bethesa is ever going to
get to that.

Speaker 2 (42:31):
That's just not a no, that's not even an aspiration
for them. They're just like, no, it's not.

Speaker 1 (42:36):
But I'm saying Naughty Dog seems to want to do that,
seems to aspire to do that and to put these
stories out there for their gamers and their audience to
really latch onto and dig into. And I don't know
if Intergalactic will have it to that depth. So while

(42:58):
I think I will very much enjoy it and maybe
even love it to some degree, I don't know if
we are going to be over here being like announcing
the Integralactic podcast.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (43:09):
Maybe I don't know. I my only my old I
have two counters. I have two counters to you, Okay,
mass effect really to say mass effect for me?

Speaker 2 (43:21):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (43:22):
Mass Effect too specifically fucking transformative experience for me in
terms of gaming. And though I have not played it,
I have heard nothing but just absolutely fantastic things about
Outer Wilds. So that's a game that people set, I

(43:46):
mean set in space that has a kind of interesting
loop and story that.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
I tried it. Yeah, I did not understand.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
It at all. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
Yeah, I think it's a very specific kind of game.
And you know, I do agree with you that you
know you have obviously like Dead Space and what was
that other one that was the Dead Space had Josh
Douamal in it, Josh Douhamil whatever his name was.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
I can't remember. You were going to get it for me?

Speaker 1 (44:19):
Oh it ended up coming out free. Yeah, yeah, I
have it anyway, the monthly games, oh cast.

Speaker 3 (44:25):
Colisto Protocol, Yeah, Alien Isolation so when Yeah, there are
many examples of space games being horror games, but I
don't think Naughty Dog's going that route. There might be
horror elements insofar as there are horror elements in the
Last of Us, Right, there's even some weird horror elements
and uncharted which are kind of cool when you, you know,

(44:45):
in certain sequences. So I think, yeah, it's too early
to say, but I you know, you know how we
always say, you know, in Craig, we trust I.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
In ND I also trust you know fair enough. In Dog,
I trust, and I.

Speaker 3 (45:03):
Think we can say that across the across the board
in Dogs, I trust, sure, good boys.

Speaker 1 (45:11):
Right, I think I have no more notes to add
to it, and I'm you know, we'll talk more about
Intergalactic as we get more news about it and.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
Go from there.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
Yeah, and then when we still maybe we'll stream it
on our Last of Us channel when it comes out,
just to kind of share that initial experience with everyone.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
We'll see. But that's yeah, that's going to be our
show for this week.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
So Wendell, thank you so much for your email, for
updating us, for sharing, you know a little bit more
about your life and the experience with the Eagles in
Brazil and your team, and I just I love that
so much, and I'm I'm very much looking forward to
hosting you at one point in the future in the
wonderful city of Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (45:59):
Yeah, go Birds, Go Corinthians.

Speaker 1 (46:02):
And yeah, and also you know, we got the fight
and fills right now, so I guess we should celebrate them.
Go Phils and and and that's that's that's all I
got there. But if you would like to hang out

I was like controller console TV series, Saga, like just
nothing worked as well as Game v Frame.

Speaker 2 (47:36):
So she beat me to it. So and it rhymes,

eyeballs pop out of my head, and then I'd.

Speaker 2 (48:55):
Continue to say it because I'd still have a working mouth.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
So thank you so much for supporting our show and
loving on us as hard as you guys do. Yes,
the shout outs of course are always two four and
about the ghost of mister Joel Mari, Kiara, Dustin t
wander On, Brian Jim, Zidra, Kelsey, Kryptonian Jedi seventy nine,
Ozzie Ellie A Lurker a Trails Late nine ten, Climatize

(49:19):
eighty two, Zombie Tom thirty nine, Jess our End, And
there are two left. Andrew, would you like to say
the final two names?

Speaker 2 (49:29):
Yes? First? Baby Shadow? What what Baby Shadow? First? First? What?
What could this mean? I don't know. I don't know this.
What does this name say? The last one here? What
is this? Oh? That would be Barb?

Speaker 3 (49:48):
Who wait? I don't even see a name here. There's
there's a there's a name after Baby Shadow. I don't
even see anything written. It's just blank for me.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
Wow, that's you might want to get your eyes checked. Yes, Barb.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
Barb is officially a part of our show again by
supporting us. I mean she always supports us and Ed
loves on us from Afar, but the season kicked off
everything and she's supporting the last cast and talking to
us about it all the time, and she was just like,
I want to hear my name said in the credits,
not just the Barb who I want to hear my

(50:27):
names from the.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Farrowing land of Canada.

Speaker 1 (50:32):
Yeah, so yes, Barb, thank you so much for yeah
supporting our show. We love you and uh we say
your name here all the time, even without money, so
it's true, look at you.

Speaker 2 (50:48):
Joke's on you person. I don't know about will you
stop it?

Speaker 1 (50:58):
Oh my gosh, but that that is going to be
our show this week. So thank you all so much
for supporting us, hanging with us, and yeah, just.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
I hope you have a great week.

Speaker 1 (51:10):
Also, we had someone right in saying thank you for
what I said last week on our show about going
to do the one task on their to do list
that has been outstanding and to just get it done.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
So see, see, somebody cares about what I'm saying. It's
weird to assume that they don't. Ida all that.

Speaker 1 (51:31):
To say, I very much hope that everyone is having
a wonderful week or at least a better week after
the devastation on Sunday night. And yeah, I hope that
you were able to get outside, get some sunshine, treat
yourself to your favorite coffee, and you know what, maybe
pick up the phone and call someone that has been

(51:51):
on your mind for a while, And if you don't

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
