And welcome to the show. Good morning, Happy Friday.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Dear no, thank goodness.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Got anything you guys going to be out about anywhere
this weekend? Are you take hanging it hanging close to
the shelter. He's going to be out anywhere this weekend.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Tonight, we'll be at the Pride kickoff party from five
to about eight pm, but other than that, our weekend
is going to be pretty tame.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Well, that's all right, that's right, because we got I mean,
there's so many things going on to the next couple
of weeks, so you know you had a lot of
work to do there, because I know your numbers are
still pretty high. We'll get that a little bit later on,
but as always, our part of the week's picture posted
on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A
seventy on X tell us about and are you pronouncing
it Weasley?
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Weasley like Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
I should have known, Ryan, I should have known.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
I should have known, all right, I because when you
sent me the text last night, I said, well, I
wonder if it's Wesley, and then I should have all automatically.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Presumed with you that that's where we were going to go.
Although I don't know who Weasley is because I've never
seen the first Harry Potter film or read the book.
But I'm not very culture, I'm not very cold.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I got Weasley's picture posted again over on my social
media tell us about Weasley.
Speaker 6 (04:06):
So, Weasley is a very unique dog. He is one
of our dogs that's been with us for quite some time.
He is starting to get really stressed in his kennel.
He paces, he barks, he kind of flips himself from
side to side of the kennel as far as like
running really quickly and getting a lot of air up
on the side of the kennel like a motorcycle in
(04:27):
a cage. Really, so we're trying to get Weasley out.
He is probably would do best as the only dog
in the home. He has been okay with some dogs
he's met at the shelter, so it's really hard to
like pin down who he would go well with or
who he could live with. But if you have a
dog at home and you want to try out Weasley,
(04:48):
you can bring your pet to the shelter. We can
do a meet and greet, make sure everything goes okay.
But he's two years old, he's neutered, the works, he's
got all his vaccines, microchips, all that good stuff. And
he is, like I said, he's just very unique, very funny.
A lot of our staff love him. He has lots
of nicknames at the shelters, like the weise, weasel, all
(05:11):
that good stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
And you say he's around thirty six pounds, I think
is what you told me.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Yeah, around thirty six pounds. He is taller, so thirty
six pounds looks pretty good on him, but he's a
taller dog. Completely sponsored ad option. See. The only thing
that's a definite no for Weasley is very young children.
We're thinking like under ten years old. And definitely no cat.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Definitely no, he's not a cat fan like we are, right,
absolutely not. All right, Well, I mean you got to
know that going in.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
It's better and better to find that out ahead of
time as opposed to trying to find it out later.
So he does have a lot of energy. And again
you've told us before about these these dogs that when
they're in their kennel or in the in the shelter,
I should say that you know they they sometimes it
just totally stresses them out. And then you get him
out of that, whether somebody fosters them or they just
(06:02):
take them out for the day for a walk or whatever.
It's an amazing it's amazing what a difference there is
when you actually can get them out of there.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Yeah, anytime outside, I mean even as a small amount
of times like fifteen minutes, can make such a huge
difference for the dogs that are to the point of
like pacing and hurting themselves in their kennels. So definitely
consider fostering or just getting them out for a little
bit because again it makes a huge difference for them.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Well, speaking of fostering, Angie June is National Foster a
Pitt Month and so it would be a great opportunity
for people to try to try this out. If somebody
is considering fostering, what's the conversation like, they just call
you up or they stop mind and they say, look,
I'm considering fostering. What advice do you give them?
Speaker 6 (06:48):
So our behavior is Jolie is much more well rounded
with as far as behavior advice, as far as bringing
an animal into your home. We try to set you
up from for success from the start. We give you
pretty much any supply that you will need, and then
as far as fostering, anytime amount, any amount of time
out of the shelter is great. So we're not going
(07:09):
to say, hey, we need you to at least keep
them for the weekend or whatever. We're gonna be happy
with whatever you can do and whatever you feel comfortable doing,
because we want you to come back and foster more.
So we're not going to push you past your limits
to foster one particular animal.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
And you know, there are so many people that do
that on a regular basis, you know, whether it's dogs
or cats or whatever.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
They that this is kind of their thing.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
This is their this is their golfer, you know, whatever
other activities you may have, that they just live to
do this stuff.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Angie. I mean, they love, they love to foster.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
And then you'll see them post pictures on social media
trying to help you guys get these pets adopted by saying, hey,
we've been fostering this cat or this dog or whatever.
He's great, she's fantastic, whatever. So God bless those people.
Speaker 6 (07:54):
To do that.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
And again, June is National Foster a Pet Mont so
it'd be a great time for people to to try
to look into that.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
So how are the numbers looking.
Speaker 6 (08:04):
They're still as always, I feel like a broken record.
We're still no matter how many animals we send out,
we cannot get below five hundred animals in our care.
Even this morning we had twenty leaves to an adoption
event in New Jersey, and we are still pushing about
five hundred and like five hundred and three animals.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
So wow, and that's that's definitely wait, wait, way too many.
After the show last week, after your segment last week, Anie,
somebody had texted and I don't know whether we did
this actually on air or not, but I know I
got with you afterwards. They wanted to know about floor
plans or anything like that for the new shelter. I
know we're not quite there yet, but can in case
they missed it last week, can you give us a
(08:44):
timeline of, you know, ideally fingers crossed, when you'd like
to start construction, when you'd actually like to be in
the new shelter.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Yes, so we are. The floor plans are in work.
We're getting sent drafts at this point of what we
think would work for thee like the location we've picked,
and also kind of sticking to what is like feasible
for KHA. So we're looking at a timeline of about
like three to four years at this point, just because
(09:15):
it takes a lot more than I thought it did
personally to get a animal shelter constructed versus like a
regular building constructed. A lot goes into like drain work
and all the building things construction things that I'm not
familiar with.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Yeah, I mean one, I can certainly imagine that. The
Dave Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you
in part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
We have a text question for you, Miss givin Water.
It says, any idea why it seems that feline and
if I butcher this, you can you can and butcher
me later. Feline piometra ting to pronounce that right. Cases
(09:53):
seem to have jumped over the past year.
Speaker 6 (09:57):
We're talking piametra. It's an infection in a cat or
dogs uterist. I haven't seen personally like a lot of
piametra cases happening at the shelter, specifically if they're spiking
in the area and nationwide. The easy solution of that,
please get your pet saved. That is the number one
(10:21):
way to prevent that. And I think what's happening now
is there's a national vet shortage, so stay and neuter
is very hard to access right now. And I think
that may be an explanation as to why those cases
are jumping specifically.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
All right, hey Angie, I appreciate you being here and
we'll talk again next week.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Thanks a lot. Sounds great, Angie Gellawater from the GNAAL Charleston.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
You made association with this week's adop me. Please better
the week again. Picture posted over on Dave Island Radio
on Facebook and at Davise seventy on X It's Weasley,
to year old male around thirty six pounds, needs to
probably be the only pet. Seems to get along well
with other playful female dogs, but definitely no cats. And
they recommend because of the energy level and things of
(11:04):
that nature, that probably would be better in a home.
Kids are fine, but maybe older kids maybe, say, as
Angie said, maybe ten and up probably would be better
for Weasley. And he's already he's already ready to go,
he's already vaccinated, he's already neutered. He's going to be
a fantastic dog for your family. And I've got his
picture again if you want to see Weasley. The dog
we're talking about, which I learned today as a Harry
(11:24):
Potter thing. I don't know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter.
I've left a I guess led very very very sheltered life.
No pun intended when we're talking about the Humans Association,
but anyway, go over to Dave Island Radio and Facebook.
Take a look at Weasley's picture. Also at Dave A

producer in charge of things today the speaking to Gomart Ballpark.
The state baseball tournament continues over there, fingers crossed.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
We can get through it weather wise.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
But Dave Wilson is one of the voices that you're
hearing on our tournament coverage, and he's also hosting talk line.
He'll be with TJ in studio next hour. Then we
ship him off over to the ballpark and we'll get
him in here a little bit early to review what
happened at the tournament yesterday and last night. Sadly sad
to say that my alma mater, the Logan Wildcats, were
(14:42):
beaten last night. Great game, by the way, it gets
Philip Barber, but they were beaten last night. But plenty
of other teams are still alive, including a lot of
local teams. We'll talk to Dave Wilson about that coming
up a little bit later on in the show, and
food Truck Friday is back in the city of Hurricane
Manda Smith Raimi from the city will join us to
talk about that.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Supporting the the arts.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
You're in Charleston, We're all about it. Joined us now
to talk abouts this Arts Amplified program is Brian Cooper.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Brian, good morning, Good morning, thanks for having me in.
Welcome to our Have you been on the air with
me before?
Speaker 5 (15:11):
I think I think when we started City Center Live.
Actually I think we came in at that time, me
and Matt Sutton came in and kind of talked about
what we were hoping for this program, all right those
three years ago?
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Okay, all right, right, so now that it that it's
up and running. First of all, what is what is
Arts Amplified?
Speaker 9 (15:28):
But art?
Speaker 4 (15:30):
I'm the director of Arts Amplified.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
It was an initiative that was dreamed up the creator
Canaw Valley Foundation and some other important players four years
ago started wishing that we had some type of entity
in Charleston that was always working to connect artists and
business and community together to really like grow and and
like you said a sec Ago, we have a lot
of great art in Charleston and we really do support
(15:53):
the artists in Charleston, and Art Amplified is really just
there to help take all of that to the next level,
help make those connections and really amplify all the great
arts that's already going on in Charleston and hopefully create
some new fund things in the long line.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
What are some of the things that you guys have
done in the last few years.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
We have a minigrant program which has been very successful.
Those are like five thousand dollars Ish minigrants that anyone
can apply for artists, businesses, organizations. So through that we've
done a lot. Like we've helped recently Folklore Music on
Summer Street. They wanted to build a performance space in
their store. They applied for a mini grant, took them
all of five minutes. We were happy to approve that
(16:28):
and now they have that in that space. That's just
something recently. Programming wise, we have City Center Live, which
we mentioned a second ago, is actually kicking off next
week on Thursday, and that's our series of summer events
that we do in the park. So that's one of
the other programming things we do. We do a lot
of brokering between businesses and artists. Let's say a couple
(16:50):
of years ago, Progrants got depot wanted to find an
artist to paint a mural in their entry area. So
we helped them through that process of collecting the artists,
helping them go through the interview process selecting who they wanted.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
And that's really cool, I will say, because that's where
I live. I mean, I don't live at Kroger, but
well you could. But but I will say, that's the
local Uh, that's the local grocery store. So you've seen
that in our neighborhood once a week at least.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
I mean absolutely, I had no idea you guys did that. Yeah,
it's amazing.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Every time I see it, I think it really does
look like a piece of work that wouldn't be in
a Kroger.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
I mean it's a beautiful piece of work. Yeah, it
really is good.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
We're talking to Brian Cooper from Mart's Amplified, So city
Center Live tell us about that.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
So city Center Live.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
We started it three years ago. The idea, you know,
the beautiful Slack Plaza was recreated as City Center at
the time, the new park downtown, and we really wanted
to just put programming to make that a big part
of the new park, having things in the park for
people to do.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
So we came up with the idea of having a
regular series of events, all free, three times a week
throughout the summer, and it's a little bit of everything.
Like there's like I said, next Thursday starts with open
Sky Open Mic, which is exactly as it sounds. It's
just open mic night out in the park. Anybody come down.
We have line dancing night. People come out and do
line dancing. We have a murder Mystery night. Gosh, we
(18:07):
have theater events in the park. These are all free
events that take place, Like we start on June twelfth,
so we'll do like four dates through June. That's just
kind of like a teaser of what the season is
going to be like. And then we take off July
because there's so much going on in July in our
town that we don't need any more programming now, you know,
we really don't. But then in August it really kicks off.
(18:27):
And from August through October seventeenth, there'll be at least
three events in the park every week that are always
free for anyone, and they're all artspaced, so you can
always come out, have some fun downtown and see some art.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
How do you choose, Brian, what it is that you do?
I mean that's kind of eclectic. You talked about the
music and murder mysteries and line dancing. How do you
choose what goes into you? Just listen to the people.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Yeah, So we started with the large committee actually of
diverse people to say, you know, what would be some
things to try. And really what we've done is kind
of adapt season to season. We've taken data and talk
to people and see what's working, what's not working. We've
kept everything. Actually, we've I don't know if we've dropped anything.
We've kind of just grown off of everything that we've had.
(19:12):
Some new things we have added this year. We have
a high school marching band showcase, so some of the
high school marching bands will come out and perform one evening.
We're adding Happy Hours on Fridays and starting in September
this year, so it'll be an earlier in the day event.
People can come out, play some yard games. Here's some
live music. We're adding a Pickle Palooza fest this year,
(19:32):
which we'll have like ten to twelve vendors sampling Pickles
in the Park.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Pickles in the Park, Pickles in the Park. I mean
that's a new one. Yea, I haven't heard that one.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Yeah, it'll be fun. You can come out sample pickles.
Everyone will vote on who their favorite pickle is. We'll
have some pickle games and contests. It'll all be a
pickle themed day, of course, with live music too. We'll
have some Irish brogue music. We'll have some bluegrass music
that day. It should be an event that will be.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Kind of you're really missing out here, Brian, if you don't.
I know, you can't have pickleball tournament down there but
pickle but but I mean just to have somebody up
down there. Get with Johnny rutherth buddy, you know that's
so big into pickleball. He's a regular on the show.
They just had the pickleball tournament, including the pickle eating
contest I think in Nitro last week, So maybe get
(20:17):
them down there at least talk about We're talking to
Brian Cooper again from Arts Amplified. The Dave Allen Show
in five eighty Live is brought to you in part
by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can cause a
variety of health issues allergies, respiratory problems, and more. Pinnacle
offers specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial, and
industrial type settings Visa Pinnacle Corp.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Dot net.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Because what you don't know can hurt you. I want
to talk about getting young people involved in this, in
the arts in general, and I'm a big believer that
anything we can get young people involved in, whether it's sports,
whether it's theater, whether it's banned you know, music, dance,
you know, anything to get them interested in something other
(20:59):
than just a device, I think has got to be
a good thing.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
Is your program.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
And you, folks, do you do you do anything to
work with the youth to kind of reach out together absolute.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
And honestly, I mean selfishly, you know, I actually didn't
come from an art profession background. I worked in IT
and oil and gas companies and law firms, and my
background was actually mostly in information technology. But when we
moved to Charleston about thirteen years ago, now we had
the little kids at the time, it was really the
art scene that kind of hooked us into Charleston, being
(21:29):
able to go to art walk, going our kids got
super involved in local theater. So it was through that
that kind of led me into the passion of wanting
to see arts thrive in Charleston, and.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
Yeah, we do.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
You know, I would say open mic night at City
Center Live is probably one of our biggest youth outreach
events because there's really not an open mic night except
for the one that Folklore Music does when City certain
Live is not going on, that all ages can come
out and perform it. So imagine a fifteen year old
kid who's never you know, they have some skills, but
(22:01):
they don't have anywhere to really test that out and
show it to be able to come down to the
City Center Live or perform in the park where you
might have a patio full of people over at five
Street that's now listening to this kid. And I've seen
people get up and walk from five Street to come see.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Like, who is this singer there? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Like so to give them that kind of space and
exposure is It's been one of my favorite parts of
Citizens Live Reshort.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Now.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
You see if that were me and I were up
on stage and the people at five Street would say,
is someone being murdered over.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
There the inside table? Now, well what exactly is that?
What exactly is that?
Speaker 3 (22:32):
But but again, you know, it's an opportunity for people
to come out and you know, you've been here for
a while. We weren't you from originally.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
We were in Beckley before.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Okay, okay, But you know as well as I do
that Charleston is really getting this of this image as
being a just a thriving I mean, I talk about
the culinary community because I'm a filia. I mean the
culinary community, but also the arts community as well the music.
I mean, there's a lot of stuff going on.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
We've had Mountain Stage here forever. At this point, fest
of All has been a you know, an amazing part. Again,
that's another thing that my family loved, Like there's all
these art things we have, the regotta we have live
on the levee, Like there's so many things now we
have City Center Live Art Amplified doing. You know, we
just put out these art collecting vending machines around town.
I don't know if you've seen those or not. Yeah,
there's something about the community engaging in art like that
(23:24):
that feels really special to Charleston. I was downtown during
the bike race. We did a whole week of well
five days of music programming during the bike race, so
you could watch rices and listen to music in the park,
and I saw a family of little kids collect all
the quarters they could. They ran over to the vending machine,
got a bunch of the vending the art vending cards out,
and then they all set around as a family in
the park like opening them up. I thought this, you know,
(23:46):
that looks like a fun thing about Charleston to me.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Is now for those that don't I know what you're
talking about. But for those that don't know about these
cards you're talking about to explain that.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
So think of an old school put your four quarters in,
pushing the button, and outcomes of tattoo or a sticker
or something like that, except for in this case, you
put your four quarters in, you push it in, and
what comes out as a print from a local artist.
We have four different artists right now, so you can
collect all sixteen. There's four different prints from four different artists.
We have one vending machine at our office at the
(24:14):
Greater Knaw Valley Foundation right across from five Street Brewery,
and then we have another vending machine in Capital Market,
so you could visit those. There's ian body has some
prints in them. Each claus has prints, Blake Wheeler and
Lex Hunter. So there's four artists right now and you
can collect little miniature baseball card size prints of local art.
Speaker 3 (24:35):

Speaker 9 (30:02):
Welcome to the show, Good morning, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
All right, So what do we have on tap today?
Speaker 9 (30:09):
Boot Trek s Friday and Hurricane Our kickoff week is
Twisted Grill, which is always a crowd favorite, Hill Billy Hibachi,
and Scraggle Pop kettle Corn.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Now, I have had Twisted Grill and have had this
Scrabble the Scrabble Pop. I have not had Hill Billy Hibachi,
but I got to tell you, I love the name already. So, uh,
tell us about Hillbilly Hibachi.
Speaker 9 (30:31):
Yeah, we're excited. I think this is their first appearance
in the Hurricane area, so we are excited to have them,
and I'm sure they will be a crowd favorite as well.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Can you give us an idea of some of what
they have or do we know yet?
Speaker 9 (30:43):
Yeah, well, you know they've got your your typical hibachi,
what you would expect at an Asian restaurant. But you know,
they call themselves Hillbilly, so I'm sure they'll be at
Cliff So.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
So what I'm hearing, as somebody who you know is
kind of a hillbilly, I'm hearing that we're going to
do a little few usion. But it may involve potted
meat or spam. Is that is that a possibility?
Speaker 9 (31:04):
I don't know about that. I'm looking at their menu
for today right now. They've got a chicken dinner, a
steak dinner, shrimp dinner, chicken and steak, all three meats
or vegetarian.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
So okay, all right.
Speaker 9 (31:15):
All combos include rice, noodles, veggies, and yum yum sauce.
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
You got to have the yum yum sauce, Amanda, you
got to have the yum yum sauce.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
So you got all three of those here today. What
time do you start?
Speaker 9 (31:27):
So it is eleven am until two pm?
Speaker 4 (31:29):
All right, so go ahead.
Speaker 9 (31:31):
Our sponsor this week is Putnham County Library, So while
you're there, be sure to check out there's summer reading
program and all the good things they've got going on.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Big shout out to the Tarbs, Make and Target with
the staff of the Putnam County Library.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
All right, So this thing starts around eleven o'clock.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
And how many years do you know, if the time
you had it, approximately, how many years of the food
truck Friday thing has been going on. It's been several years, right.
Speaker 9 (31:54):
At least ten years. I was trying to figure this
out the other day. This might be our tenth year
in fact. Okay, yeah, so a long time and people
love it and we're just excited. Last year we moved
it to Hurricane City Park and that was a great success.
So if you've been in the past, just to make note,
we are at City Park, not Main Street.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yeah, and that's I'm I really appreciate you pointing that
out because for years, as you said, it was on
the Main Street and Hurricane near the gazebo. Uh and
you've kind of moved it away from there. You know,
we've got we've had an active restaurant seen down in
the city Hurricane and you can understand sometimes you know,
they're like, I'm not saying that's what happened, but sometimes
you're like, well, you're breaking food trucks in front of
my restaurant. If I were a restaurant owner, I would
(32:34):
completely understand that. Uh So, in big shout out to
the folks at Bell Nap and Sergio's and others down there.
So you're now in a hurricane, you're now in Hurricane
City Park. For those who may be listening to us
that may not know where Hurricane City Park is, explain.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
It to us.
Speaker 9 (32:50):
Yeah, it's right there by the reservoir in Hurricane, right
on Tans Valley Road.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
So you can't miss it.
Speaker 9 (32:55):
You know where the reservoir is, you can't miss that.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
You just pull in.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
We'll have the trucks set up in the main parking lot.
There's still plenty of parking for everybody. That's the nice
thing about City Park. There's plenty of parking and plenty
of room to.
Speaker 10 (33:05):
Spread out so well.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
And I don't know what the weather is going to
become lunchtime, because we do have some scattered showers and
thunderstorms expected, but what I'm hearing, I think it's going
to be primarily later.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
So would be a great time, lungs.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
It's not too terribly hot for you to get out
of the bank that you're in or the law office
or whatever it is that you're doing, and.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Head on down there and grab some grub today.
Speaker 9 (33:27):
Absolutely, and we'll have picnic tables and canopies just to
have some shape. So it should be a nice afternoon.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
Now, do you do this every Friday?
Speaker 9 (33:36):
Every Friday in June and July with the exception this
year of July fourth. So every Friday in June and
July except for July.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Fourth, and you have I'm assuming three different food vendors
every week, right exactly.
Speaker 17 (33:49):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
And you guys do a fantastic job on the City
of Hurricanes social media and the Facebook page and whatever,
so you always have a complete list of who's there.
And so what I would urge you to do is
if you're like me and you start are planning meals
on Tuesday or Wednesday, you know for Friday, I would
go check it out, look at it, go well, okay,
this Friday, I definitely I definitely got a head there
for a food truck Friday. Amanda Raymi is with us,
(34:10):
all right, so let me ask you. I have you
on here, Manda. We're getting in the summer months right now.
I'm going to go ahead and give you an opportunity.
We'll get back to the food trucks here at a moment,
but to kind of preview what's going on within the
City of Hurricane as we head into summer.
Speaker 9 (34:22):
Yeah, great, we have. Of course, we're looking forward to
our July fourth Independence Day of celebration. It kicks off
with a parade on July fourth at four o'clock this year,
down Main Street. And then our festivities actually are at
our brand new Hurricane Bridge Park at the Putnam County
Bank Sports Complex, So we're excited to have have it there,
(34:42):
spread out a little bit, and then that is a
perfect fireworks viewing spot too, So the fireworks are at
ten and away. As always, admission it's free, all the
free games, all the free treats. We like to invite everybody.
You don't have to be from Hurricanes.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Anybody can come down, Anybody can come back.
Speaker 9 (35:02):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
And I also want to mention I had earlier in
the week, we had Kelly Steel on for Putnam County
Tourism on the show and she was talking about, I
know this is not specifically the City of Hurricane event,
but it is going on at Valley Park. She was
talking about the first ever coffee festival. It's sold out.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
It's and I'm not talking about it.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
I'm not talking about it sold out for vendors. I'm
talking about for people buying tickets. It's completely sold out.
Who would have I mean, I'm a coffee drinker, but
who would have ever thought that coffee would be that popular?
That they would sell that many tickets at Valley Park
that they ran out of room for people in advance.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (35:35):
Absolutely, a little event they found they found the I.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Mean there's you know, in a big shout out to
Justin and the folks there because they do such a
great job at Valley Park. And I know you guys
have got a great relationship, you mayor Edwards in the
city of hurric and have got such a great relationship.
And look, I say it all the time. You know's
so many activities going on. I was just talking about
things going on at Charleston. Uh, I'm a little prejudiced
toward Putnam County because that's where I But I'll tell
you there is always something going on in Putnam County.
(36:03):
I mean, you've got Farmers Market every Saturday. That's right
off the tays Valley exit. Winfield. I know you don't
say Winfield when you're talking to somebody from Hurricane, but
just just bear with me for a moment. Okay, Winfield
Water Sports Weekend is happening. This weekend starts it's tonight
through tomorrow. So there's always something going on at Putnam County, right.
Speaker 9 (36:23):
Always, Yes, I always say, don't ever tell me there's
nothing to do. There's always something to do, all right.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Again, tell us who's going to be there for food
truck Friday.
Speaker 9 (36:31):
Again we have Hillbilly, twisted Grill and stragapop today, all right.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
And that you'll be doing it every Friday except the
first Friday, except for Fourth of July.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
Right every Friday except for that, yep.
Speaker 9 (36:45):
And check out our Facebook page. We post the new
lineup every Monday morning.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
All right.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Hey, Amanda, I appreciate you being here. Thank you so much,
and we will talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Thanks for having me, Amanda.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Raimi again from the City of Hurricane. Yeah, food trucks,
food trucks. And if you didn't catch who what food
trucks are going to be there? I got the graphic
posted on my social media over on Dave Island Radio,
so you can go check that out over there if
you wish. A couple of quick things, and then we're
going to talk to Dave Wilson about the State Baseball
tournament that continues today at Gomart Ballpark. Earlier this week
(37:20):
we told you about the Backpack Buddies program. That's a
great event that we're happy to get the word out
about where they get a bunch of people to gather
and they pack up boxes of food mailed out over
the summer to kids who may not have a lot
to eat once the final school bell rings. Talked to
Doug Irwin from the program last night, and due to
the expected rain tomorrow, for the first time, believe it
(37:41):
or not, in their thirteen year history, they are going
to have to move the events. It's still happening, but
they're going to move it indoors. They're actually going normally
they do this on the parking lot of the Church
of the Nazarene there in tays Valley. Doug tells me
that they're going to have to move the event indoors
tomorrow starting at ten. It's actually going to be at
the old Kroger located in Tayese Valley, which is next
to the current Kroger location. So if you want to
(38:04):
help out, if you're planning on going there, they have,
like you know, several one hundred people that take part
in that. If you were planning on going there and
helping out tomorrow, I know that they would appreciate that.
But please note it will not be at the church there.
It is actually now going to be inside the old
Kroger location which is next to the new current. Okay, Also,
(38:26):

The Record.
Speaker 20 (45:33):
But, east hardy where they, are located. Plays up so
they Go, play martinsburg they Go, play hedgesville they go
play these four, eight teams THESE three, a teams because
there's just not a Lot OF class a teams in
that part of. The state so that's, number one and,
NUMBER two i go back to. The injuries they, lost
three four five main starters early in. The season so
(45:54):
you go through that early part of, the year you
don't have your, main hitters you're missing a pitcher, or
two it's. No wonder but late in the year these
guys have. Come back this is now the team that
the coach thought he would have heading into, the tournament
and they got a chance to pull OFF what i
think is a pretty memorable year to overcome all of,
that diversity and you got a shot at the state Title,
on saturday.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
Of course so we got some local teams that are
involved in the tournament, As well so we'll be keeping
a CLOSE eye theym and a reminder that we have
