(03:05):
the show now. So folks that are new to me
and I'm excited to get to meet to talk to them,
Doctor Robin Broughton and Christopher Vincent for broad Adventures are here.
Good morning, Good morning folks, welcome to the show.
Speaker 6 (03:15):
Good morning, thanks for having us.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Thank you for being or first of all, ask the
obvious question, what is Broughton Adventures.
Speaker 7 (03:21):
Well, Broughton Adventures offers a service for people who might
be a little nervous about international travel, want to see
the world, but just a little anxious about it. So
we offer trips, group trips that people can sign up for,
all led by experienced guides. These are great for people
(03:42):
who maybe they don't have travel buddies and they just
want to join a trip.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
And then we also offer.
Speaker 7 (03:49):
The ability to choose your own location and we'll plan
the trip for you and send an experienced guide with you.
We have ten guides who work for us, and that's
what we do. We help you see the world.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
And I'm looking at the places that you can send people.
This is not exactly like we're talking about going to
Myrtle Beach here. I mean there's anything wrong with Myrtle Beach,
but I'm looking at Dubai, Ecuador, Kilimanjaro, different safaris, Norway.
I mean, as we say in southern West Virginia, that's
a fur piece. Yeah, that's a fur piece.
Speaker 7 (04:21):
From here, we go all over the world, all over
the world, so Middle East, we do a lot of
European countries. The African Safari is super popular, and we
do it at a good price. Our slogan is big adventures,
little cost.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
So let's talk about the travel adventure business in general.
I mean, of course, it, like everything else, suffered with COVID.
You know, obviously a couple of years ago. How's the
rebound been from that.
Speaker 7 (04:49):
I think the rebound's really been excellent. I think people,
especially after COVID being isolated, have been very excited to
get out and travel, and I think that just having
an experienced guide with you really helps helps with that.
But yeah, we've had We've had a lot of a
lot of success with our trips and we are based
(05:12):
locally here in Charleston, West Virginia. I began leading trips
at West Virginia State University as a professor for twenty
five years and now it's it's a full time business.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
So why, I mean, what was it that about for
either one of you? What was it about this business
that excited you, that made you want to do this?
Speaker 7 (05:31):
Well, I I'll let my lead guide Christopher answer that one,
since I've been talking so much.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Well, that's that's all right.
Speaker 8 (05:39):
So I've always wanted to travel the world, and I
actually never traveled at on. A lot of a lot
of people know me as a world traveler, but I
didn't travel at all until I lived in West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
You's got a later start, Yeah, I got a.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
Late start, yeah, and it's it's thanks to Robin that
you know had I've seen twenty six countries now, and
I just wanted the culture, one of the real experiences
of traveling. I didn't I didn't want the We don't
do touristy things either. We do some touristy things, but
it's a fair mix of tourists and cultural experiences. So
(06:11):
we you know, we really try to get the most
out of every place that we go.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
What's been some of the most exciting places, And this
is a personal question for either one of you that
you've that you've gone, what's been the most exciting thing?
Speaker 8 (06:24):
Japan is like the closest thing to visiting another planet
that you're gonna really Yeah, why is that? It's just
everything is just so different. It's like it's like the
entire world just went on a different timeline.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
See that Now that surprises me because I would think
that it wouldn't be that different in Japan, because I mean,
their their culture seems to be similar to ours. But
maybe not. I've learned something here today. I mean I
would thought it probably would would would be a lot
like America, but I guess not.
Speaker 8 (06:53):
Uh No, It's it's really interesting that you'll i mean
from small things like you know, Shabuja crossing where a
thousand people cross the street at the same time and
you don't hear a word from anybody.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
It's just footsteps, you know.
Speaker 8 (07:08):
I mean, you'll be on the subway with a hundred
Japanese businessman and you'll only hear the word of the subway.
Speaker 7 (07:13):
You know.
Speaker 8 (07:13):
It's just like it's a very quiet culture and it's there.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
They're very subdued people. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (07:18):
Absolutely, And then you want to talk about the technology.
I mean, everything's really just everything is just next level
over there. They thought about every single tiny little thing,
and the and the way that they just walking down
the street and you see like a Japanese businessman next
to just a regular citizen and like these tattered pickup
like safety clothes because they're picking up every little piece
(07:40):
of everything on the street. I saw a guy just
like working at a piece of chewing gum for like
five minutes because he just had to get that gum up.
So it's like a very clean New York City, but
just like really high tech. It's it's otherworldly.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Honestly, I think it says like we need to bring
some of those people here on the turnpike.
Speaker 8 (07:57):
But Safari would be a close. Uh do you want
to talk about Safaria?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Sure, sure, the Safari.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
I think that's when people ask me the the one trip,
if you can only do one, what should you do?
And I would definitely say the African Safari. You get
to well, first of all, we are we base the
trip in Zanzibar, which is an exotic island off the
coast of East Africa, and so.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
You have all the island life.
Speaker 7 (08:26):
But then one day you get in a plane and
you fly to the mainland and you land right in
the plains of Africa and you hop in these jeeps
and you're just roaming around and you're seeing elephants and giraffes,
and we see lions every single time, you know, you
see the mass I, the traditional mass I Warriors. It's
(08:48):
it's it's the the number one bucket list trip in
my opinion.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Talking to folks again from Broaden Adventures, but Dave Island
showing five eighty live is brought to you a part
by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds
continuing their long road trip. They're not back at the
ballpark until one week from Friday. At that time they'll
kick off a Labor Day weekends set against Gastonia. For tickets,
Birds merchandise promotion schedules more visit dirty Birds baseball dot com.
All right, so what do you say to somebody who's
(09:13):
listening right and thinking, man, you know, I really want
I'd love to do something like this, but they're just
a little bit on the scared side, you know, a
little bit I was scared. It's not the right word, Robert,
I'd say maybe a little bit apprehensive. What would you
say to them.
Speaker 7 (09:27):
Well, I would say, first of all, that's understandable in
the climate today, but that's what we work at. Our
number one priority is safety for our clients, and we
have ten very experienced guides. They've traveled the world. We
are all involved in language training, so you'll have a
guide with you that speaks to the language, that's been
(09:50):
to the country before, that has CBR training and all that,
not that you would need it, but that's prepared to
deal with emergency situations, all very well versed in getting
you through those anxious moments like at airports and going
through customs and security.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
We're right there every step of the way.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
That's a very good point because for and I'm not
somebody who's done a whole lot of travel in my life,
but I can tell you one out of the country
trip that I took, I was more I was more
concerned about the airport and gaging through that then I
was when we got to the resort that we were visiting.
I was a lot more concerned in the airport because
it was a totally different world than when you fly
into some of these other countries, you know, And he
(10:29):
was talking about the difference between the culture even right
down to the airport, and the public transportation is a
heck of a lot different in some countries than what
it is here.
Speaker 7 (10:38):
Right exactly exactly, and that's it. There can be high anxiety,
but we do everything to relieve that. And yeah, and
we've we've just had thousands of positive experiences. And even
though we are based in Charleston, we have people traveling
with us from all over the country. So we just
(10:59):
planned trips for eight people out of Denver, Colorado for
upcoming Norway trip.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
So you take care of everything. I mean, if I
pick one of these places and I'll just say I'm
gonna I'm gonna go to Killmajaro, you take care of
pretty much everything.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
Yeah, and Kilimanjaro is it's kind of a special trip
because of course that involves climbing the highest mountain in
Africa almost twenty thousand feet. So we also have experienced
guides who have summitted the mountain, who provide the clients
with training plans.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Okay, I was gonna say, because that's not something you
just show up and go out. I can climb that mountains.
It's a no matter how good a shape you may
be in, you may not be ready for that. So
talk about that training aspect.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
Right, Yeah, So the training is for that, that's very important.
And for those who are going locally, we organize hikes,
We get pep you know, we get people ready for
the trip, make sure that they have everything they need.
That's all important, all the supplies and trucking gear and such.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
But for all the trips we.
Speaker 7 (12:02):
Uh, we tell people all they really need to do
is show up at the airport with their passport, okay,
and we provide a packet that tells them everything from
the time change to how currency will be converted, what
electric converter they'll need to use in that country.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
We give them some language tips, and.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
I would think you would also This kind of goes
back to Christopher, to what you were saying. I think
you would also want to give them some tips about
the culture too, because you can go to another country
or deal with people from other countries and you can
greatly offend them without actually meaning to. And so with
every country you go to, there are certain protocols that
we may not know what I'm making.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
Sure, Yeah, especially like Middle Eastern culture and everything, there's this,
you know, it's everything operates very differently. But to your
earlier points. When you go to the website, you'll see
a price there and that's going to include the airfare,
the lodging, different curated experiences and.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Uh and uh.
Speaker 8 (12:58):
And it is getting way way more intoimidating like international travel,
like I'm even a feeling, you know, and you're getting
herded like through airports. Now, you know, it's just a
it's a really intimidating process.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
So you guys are going to make it easier on
them though.
Speaker 8 (13:12):
Yeah, we yeah, we we try to and at least
we you know, kind of act as a shield sometimes,
whatever it takes.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Give us the website again where people can learn more
because it's fascinating. I appreciate you guys coming in, but
it's all It all starts, I'm imagining by going to
your website. So sure, and now you can see what
you get there. What do you got?
Speaker 7 (13:29):
It's Broughtonadventures dot com. So that's brought and br oug
h t o nadventures dot com.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
All right, doctor Robin Broughton and Christopher Vincent. Appreciate you
both being here. Learned a lot, thanks a lot, thanks.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Thank you so much.

director of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Before we
(20:25):
get to some stuff that I want to talk to
you about, we had some good news out of Morgantown yesterday.
Some players have been reinstated and it looks like they're
going to be playing one one. There was an academic issue,
but that notwithstanding, it looks like the players that were
in question are going to be playing this fall.
Speaker 14 (20:41):
Talk about them, Yeah, I think it's a big news
because you know, they had hoped that they would be eligible.
They hoped that maybe half of them would be eligible.
I need more details because, you know, just because there's
an injunction.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (20:56):
Is that gonna last the season? I don't know, but uh,
if it does, I mean, uh, you know, good for them.
I mean depth at the Division one level, especially first
year coach rebuilding a roster, that's big.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
News, all right. And uh, speaking of rebuilding Marshall rosters,
my Marshall thundering heard, I mean they got they got probably.
I saw a stat the other day that as far
as new players coming in, they got one. They're one
of the schools that has like the highest number of
new players. I mean, w U has got a lot
coming in. Marshall's really got a lot coming in there.
Uh do you want to mention that tonight we're gonna
(21:32):
paint the Capital City green up at the bill No
Flight School at the airport. Marshall University completely sold out.
It's not a seat available.
Speaker 15 (21:41):
Man.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
I'm going to be serving as the MC of that
event tonight. I'm looking forward to it. Coach Gibson's going
to be there. Other coaches, coach Jackson, coach Fulkes, new
athletic director Gerald Harrison's going to be there. Marshall President
Brad Smith, Mayor good One is going to give the
opening address. So it's it's going to be a great
night up at the of the bill, no flight school
to night as we pay the Capital City Green. And
I'm happy to say it's completely sold out.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
I've been to that event.
Speaker 14 (22:04):
I mean, for if you're a Marshall fan, that's one
thing of the year. If it's not a game itself,
you have to be there.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
Yeah, if you got your ticket, definitely you got your
ticket because it's completely sold out. What about our young
man from Shepherd University, Man, that's awesome. He of course
out of Shepherd, played at Martinsburg High School, got undrafted,
went to the Chicago Bears, got some playing time, got
(22:31):
some starts, did really well. Now he just signed a
contract yesterday, Jim. He is going to be one of
the league's highest paid quarterbacks. I think this was like
a seven million dollar deal or something like that. Two years,
ten million or ten million, okay million, yes, to be
a backup quarterback and I'm not downplaying that because he
got playing time, it did pretty well. But what a
great story. I mean, everybody nationwide is talking about this
(22:54):
kid out of Martinsburg who played college ball at Sheppard.
Not ety five percent of the sports fans I've never
even heard of Shepherd outside the stay to West Virginia,
and it's it's the He's the toast of ESPN and
everywhere now.
Speaker 14 (23:05):
Sports fans love underdog stories and he's he's it. He's
a good kid, it seems like. And I mean, if
you watch the press conference, if you haven't seen it,
go back and look it up, because it's a very
emotional for him. He comes from Martinsburg, played for the
Bulldogs up there, and you know, as you said, went
to Shepherd, he stayed there, he didn't transfer out and
(23:28):
finished a great college career. And good for him, Tyson Badge.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Yeah, yeah, he's certainly, I mean, a success story. And
if you, as Jim said, if you heard the press conference,
he got a little teary eyed he was talking about
he said, I think, and I'm kind of paraphrasing here, Jim,
he said something to the effect of nobody around me
had money. Yeah, And he said my dad didn't have
running water until he was His dad's an interesting story
in his own right because he was like a world
(23:53):
arm wrestling champion or something. But his dad didn't have
running water until later in his life. And this kid
is is getting paid and it's a great story for
West Virginia. It really is, it really is. You have
got some big news from Wally and Whimpies.
Speaker 14 (24:06):
Yeah, I do. We've always transitioned. I mean, it's a
thirty five year publication. It started in print only, it
was only during football season. I took it over in
twenty eighteen and took it year round as a print
and digital. Now we're transitioning even more. Beginning next week,
we're going to be a daily digital product and we'll
(24:28):
still do a weekly digital magazine as well. So it's
an exciting time for Walies and Whimpies. If you want
to sign up to get that daily, you go to
Wallywimpyesports dot com and you'll find out how to do.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
It right there.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
So you're gonna have enough content for daily.
Speaker 16 (24:46):
I said that.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
I said that tongue in cheek, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
You know.
Speaker 14 (24:52):
Everybody like print, but print is confining, you know, you
only have so much space. You can only print X
number of pages when you put it out there. But digital,
I mean there's no limits.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I mean you can put that also edit digital to
to a certain extent, at least more so than you
can print. You know, once it's out there and it's
on your local convenience store shelf, that's it. You know,
that's it. But online you do have the ability to
a certain extent anyway to be able to go in
and go, okay, well we need to change this or whatever.
Speaker 14 (25:23):
Which which I did yesterday with some scheduling, you know.
So the best example, I would say is with our
print product. Up to even last year, we were not
able to get the score of the Sunday night NFL
game or the Monday night game, and you would get
that a week later. Actually, because we update that NFL
(25:43):
page now we can get everything in there. The standings
are correct. It's just a much more efficient way to
get the information out there.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Jim Wrkman again of Wally and Wimpey's, and I failed
last time we had you on the show. As you
were getting ready to leave, I said, oh, by the way,
he's the executive director of the West Virginia Sports Writers
Association as well, So I want to make sure we
get that in there. But Dave Island Show on five
eighty Live is brought to you part by meex Rentals
and Leasing, offering stress free property management for both redders
and property owners. Doesn't mix rentals dot com. What are
you most looking forward to about the upcoming football season?
Speaker 14 (26:14):
You know, it's always exciting, but you know, new coaches
in Huntington and Morgantown. I mean, that's what this state
thrives on, is college football. I mean again, opening week,
Robert Morris is in Morgantown. They should be able to
take care of that game, we would hope, But you
(26:35):
know that second week in Ohio at Ohio the third week, Pitt, let.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Me go back a little bit. Yeah, when the WVU
schedule was finalized, I had you on the show and
you called it. Then you said, and you went on record,
it's saying that's going to be a difficult game for
the Mountaineers when they go into Athens.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
I think it is because their experience and you had
that as a loss for the Mountaineers.
Speaker 14 (26:59):
I don't think I predicted a loss yet. I'm just
I just that's their best opportunity to get upset.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Okay, okay, I be not fair enough, fair enough, fair enough.
Speaker 14 (27:10):
They've got an experienced quarterback, They've got a lot of
guys back, which is the opposite of Morgantown.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
So well, and later today on Metro News, meddam, I'm
going to have Rob Cornelius, who was one of the guys.
In addition to being a political guy, he's also in
the booth for the broadcast, so he's already calling it
that it's in ohighway, that's.
Speaker 14 (27:29):
What he should do, though he can probably make a
better case than I did.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Yeah, I mean, and that's why he would not be
doing his job if he didn't. We had a question
here for you, okay, it's said with rich Rod and
Pat Holme the first game in a couple of weeks
and Pitt not selling tickets Lol. Is the vibe regarding
mounthin or football starting to feel like it did twenty
years ago? I hope. So that's a question for you,
mister Worden.
Speaker 14 (27:49):
Well, that's what people want. They want that vibe of
twenty years ago. So I think that's why they hired
rich Rodd and he's had success. I mean, I think
you know, enough time had passed that it's you know,
he's going to be welcomed much more than he would
have five to ten years ago.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
So I think the timing is right.
Speaker 14 (28:12):
They want that vibe back because they just didn't have
it in Neil Brown. Sorry, yeah, but I think it's
going to help recruiting. I mean, it's all about recruiting.
It's all about excitement in your fan base. And you
get both with rich Rod, I believe.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
And rich Rod's made some noise in the first couple
of weeks by you know, calling some of his players soft.
And he's done that on more than one I mean
one time you just said, okay, just lost his school,
but he's done on more than one occasion. Now he's
a master motivator, and that's what master motivators do. I
mean you think about you know, I think about somebody
like Mike Didko, for example, who is a master who
is a master motivator, is going to get in your
face and tell you that you're you know, every everything
(28:49):
you don't want to be. You don't know how much
of that is he's just trying to motivate the guys
or how much he how much he truly believes, and
we forget.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
You know.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Somebody pointed out, they said, well, he's been away for
a while. It's not like he's been on a couch
watching Wheel of Fortune, you know. Ever since he left Morgantown,
he's been Jacksonville, State, Michigan, air's on all these different places.
So he's been out there.
Speaker 14 (29:08):
Imagine a time in college football that it would make
headlines if a coach called his players soft. I mean,
that was every day, fifteen thousand times in the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties,
and all of a sudden, twenty twenty five, Rich Rudd
calls my kid soft. I may look to transfer.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Hell I had I had, I had math teachers that
called us soft, you know, right, But that's a that's
a difference in the generations, That's right, And it's and
I think again, I'm going to go back to the
motivational aspect. Whether you like rich Rod or you don't
like Rich Rudd, one thing about it. He is a
fiery guy, playing with your hairs on fire, you know,
the whole deal. And and and that's been missing in
(29:50):
Morgantown many people. I mean, and I'll say this about
about my alma mater. I mean, Huff could be a
fiery guy too. I'm interested to see what happens there
because you know, Tony Gibson is a West Virginia guy.
He actually wants to be here. I don't know about
some of the other coaches that we've had that maybe
didn't well, we know coach Huck didn't want to be here.
(30:12):
I'm not going to get off on that tangent, but
you know, Tony Gibson wants to be there. Corney Jackson,
the basketball coach, wants to be there. Kind of like
that vibe going on in Huntington as well. And we'll
stick the football right now. But I am still I'm
concerned about the upcoming Marshall season. I'll be honest with you,
just because there's just so many questions right now. They
may totally prove me wrong. I hope they do. I
(30:34):
hope the Mountaineers have a great season as well. There's
a lot of questions with both programs.
Speaker 14 (30:38):
Yeah, it's really going to take a month into the
season to really see what kind of programmer, what kind
of season each of the teams is going to have.
The Thundering Herd and the Mountaineers.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
What are you looking at as far as high school goes.
Speaker 14 (30:50):
Oh, man, I'm so excited about it. It starts a
week from tonight tonight.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Yeah, we'll have We've got a game on Metro News
TV as a matter of fact, so we're looking forward
to them.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Yep.
Speaker 14 (31:00):
So there's four games I believe statewide on Thursday, a
whole slate of games on Friday night, and one on
Saturday next week, I believe week one. I mean one
thing I will say locally, I think it's going to
be more competitive because in the past several years, the
four A schools, even before there were four classifications, the
(31:22):
larger Triple A schools really dominated the Triple A schools,
the current Triple A schools. So I think those Triple
A schools now in the valley are going to be
much more competitive because they can schedule differently, and they've
got some Double A teams that moved up to Triple
A and it's just more competitive here in the valley.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
And a little programming note for US. West Virginia State
football is back on one O seven three The Beat.
We are going to be covering West Virginia State football
on one of seven three The Beat we are going
to have our course, our Friday night football coverages we
always do. We will be well, we're going actually going
back to the Game of the Week format and then
we'll have Herbert Hoover on ninety six one KWS. It's
(32:03):
been a big, big thing for us the last couple
of years, so we're excited about being part of the Huskies,
and then all the other teams will will be on
WCHS as well. Texas. Ask him what he thinks about
nil in high school.
Speaker 14 (32:16):
I don't think it's going to be a big deal.
I think they had to have something on the books
to manage that. But you know, in my lifetime, I've
seen a couple of athletes that would warrant some pretty
good NIL money, one being Randy Moss. Maybe another would
be Brett Nelson from Saint Albans Jr.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
House Jr. House.
Speaker 14 (32:36):
There's been a handful in several decades. So I don't
think that it's a big deal right now. But they
had to have something on the books.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Forty four.
Speaker 14 (32:45):
I believe other states have something on their rule books, and.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
The rules are as the best I understand it, and
you can correct me. I mean they if I'm if
I'm a player for and I'll just use GW for example,
I cannot appear in the GW merchandise. Is that right?
And a logo?
Speaker 4 (33:00):
You know what? It's so restrictive.
Speaker 14 (33:01):
That's the one other reason why I don't think it's
going to be, uh, you know, much of anything to
worry about, because you can't even have a football in
your hand. If you're a football player, you can't be
in the GW gear. You can't have you can't represent
anything that references back to what you do that has
(33:21):
made you famous in sports. It just has to be
your name, your image, or your likeness, not the schools,
not the sports.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
All right, I got one more question here for you,
and you're a popular guy today. If WVU and Pitt
do go three and oh, do you think ESPN will
consider McAfee suggestion of Game Day coming to Morgantown for
the brawl? Two and oh? I'm sorry they correct themselves
in two and oh.
Speaker 14 (33:43):
Yeah, I think, uh, bat McAfee's got a lot of influence. Yeah,
I think that's not outside the realm of possibilities.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
We'll see what happens. All right, you got a big
event tonight. I want to let you go.
Speaker 14 (33:53):
Yeah, if you weren't able to get your ticket to
the Marshall event, and or you're a WVU fan, you
should be at Buffalo Wild Wings, Cross Slain's tonight, Wally's
and Whimpy's Night. We have Anthony Lewis Touchdown City's going
to be there. He's gonna bring Avon Coburn, who's the
Mountaineers all time leading rusher. He's going to be a
special guest at Wally's and Whimpyes Night. And we have
some tickets we're going to give away. We have Marshall
(34:16):
tickets to their home opener and we're going to give
away a pair of WVU pit tickets tonight. All you
have to do is come and sign up.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
Start in its six.
Speaker 14 (34:26):
It starts at six and at seven point thirty. We'll
probably draw at about seven seven fifteen.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
All right, Jim, appreciate it, and we'll be reading the
now daily Wale and Whippy Yes appreciates. Always appreciate it.

When we think about substance house disorder in West Virginia,
we need everyone to come together and motivate change. Artists
and recovery activists throughout this date have teamed up to
paint murals that inspire hard conversations. It may seem small,
but everyone played a role in breaking through stigma and
turning these murals into something vibrant and meaningful. When it
(35:12):
comes to how we think about recovery, it takes all

Speaker 12 (37:24):
It.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
MAN i have great to be. Here, yeah great to
have you, both he Was, andy is this your first
time in the new studio or, no you were probably
here when we did opening. Day, yeah.
Speaker 22 (37:31):
Definitely That uh feels great, Though, YEAH i like. It listen, Clean.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Yes well not that the. Leader the other one was.
Dirty oh, yeah it was all. Right there we go
back in thirty. Years it was. Retro it was. Retro all,
right let's talk about. Numbers either one of you could
just jump. In let's talk about. Numbers last, year how
many people came through the turnstiles And i'm just a,
ballpark no pun.
Speaker 22 (37:51):
Intended, YEAH i like, that that's. All i'm going to
hit it out of the park. Again, Yeah, okay it was.
Over it was over one hundred and twenty thousand people,
total AND i mean within that as.
Speaker 16 (37:59):
Well.
Speaker 22 (38:00):
Well it's pretty cool seeing the crazy amount of places
that people came. From you, know we've talked about that
every city In West. Virginia we've talked about nearly every single,
state multiple. Countries when we were with the group from
it was a fifty person plus group.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
From, japan that's.
Speaker 22 (38:16):
Right when they were walking, AROUND i mean it was
they were in. Awe that was the coolest thing because
it was A monday night walking around with a huge
group from From japan visiting our, community visiting late the,
night and it was. AWESOME i, mean seventy five percent
time about how amazing light the night, was twenty five
percent about Sho Heo. Tani, yeah it's, understandable understand, too
(38:39):
or the two things we could talk.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
ABOUT i guess there you.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Go and And, ben you, know your law firm was
was all over this stuff from day, one as you
are on various other things in the community as.
Speaker 23 (38:48):
Well what'd you get out of. It, well you, know
SO i told this there that at the at the press.
Conference we get as a business, OWNER i get pitched
on sponsorships and you know things all the, time and
this is the only one where somebody pitched. Me AND
i called the next day to, say, now remember you
promised me. This you promised, me SO i knew it
was going to be a. Hit you, know this is
(39:10):
something That, charleston That West virginia. Needed and When andy
came up and he was kind of telling me what
the layout would look like with the ice skating, rink
AND i, SAID i am one hundred percent on.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Board you call me.
Speaker 23 (39:22):
Tomorrow and THEN i ended up calling him BECAUSE i
wanted to make sure that we were. Involved And i'm
in on this until he won't let me be in.
Anymore i'm telling you BECAUSE i love. IT i love
going over there and watching people when they come.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Through how many times on average were you and the family?
There probably this?
Speaker 23 (39:38):
YEAR i was there probably fifteen. Times, yeah and not
just walking around LIKE i will stand there and just
watch people when they come in or talk to. PEOPLE
i was there when the all the businessmen From japan came,
in you know that was part of a big economic
development through the state Of West. Virginia we had dinner
At university At charleston and then we brought him over
To light The night and they hadn't seen anything like that.
(40:01):
Before they were just completely blown. Away but it's something
that's so so big and so different than anything else
around here that's. Offered we have to include it in
like economic development, plans or even if you've got family coming,
in you, know people that haven't been here for a
few years and that come back For thanksgiving Or, christmas
(40:22):
make sure that they go to the.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
PARK i, mean AND i talked To Tim brady about
this last year and talked to me a good one
about this as. WELL i, mean this is it's almost
Like charleston has become A christmas destination. Now you, know
you think About charleston being a summertime destination With regatta
and all the other fairs and festivals we, Have but
NOW i mean Between Hally Jolly, brawley, yes and Between
light The night and everything else that goes on to the.
(40:44):
CITY i, mean this has become like A christmas destination.
Speaker 23 (40:46):
NOW i was walking Down Capitol street the other day
and a lady stopped me and she was, like, OH
i forget your, name but you're The christmas lights. Guy
AND i, Said i'll take. That i've been called so much.
Worse i'll Take Christmas lights as an attorney. Especially but
that's another story.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Time but and again going back TO i always look
at economic. Numbers i'm a numbers guy when it comes
to money and what it means for the city Of.
Charles so because people that come in nine times out of,
ten they don't just go to light to. Night they
go downtown and they, shop they go to a, restaurant
(41:21):
they have, dinner they take in all this other. Thing
so it's not just about going to looking at some shiny.
Speaker 22 (41:26):
Lights well, Absolutely AND i mean with with, that you
know you talk about how The jolly probably late the,
night capital market, events everything that goes on in the.
Community they're all pretty affordable and very accessible and pretty
within distance of each. Other SO i think, that you,
know when you're looking at the numbers and looking at
the economic, IMPACT i think that those kind of anchor
(41:48):
events and anchor locations really allow a lot of kind
of flexibility for when people do come and. Visit when you,
Know ben mentioned it but my in laws have come
from to see my brother in, law sister in law
and nieces have come the last Two, thanksgivings AND i
mean it is an a one part of our visit
to go late the night of course every single, night
(42:09):
but you, know and then seeing all of the million
other things that are going on and going To Holly
Jolly brawley and having fun down there with my now
seven year old son and. BROTHER i, mean there are
just so many traditions and it's really really easy to.
Speaker 23 (42:21):
Do all, right what's new for this? YEAR i think
we're gonna have more. Life we're going to have some different.
Rides some of the more popular things will still be,
there BUT i think it's going to be maybe configured
a little.
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Differently. Yeah, actually you guys put out a map on
THE i think The Dirty birds did. THAT i shared
that over on my social. Media so if you want
to go see what we're talking, about go To Dave
Allen radio and you can see exactly the little map
that that you guess put on Your facebook.
Speaker 22 (42:44):
Page, ANDY i, know do you think WE'RE i don't
know if we're having too much of where the font
keeps getting smaller because there's so much cool stuff going
on that you got to kind of really zoom it.
In but, well so another, thing you, know talking about
the numbers and economic, IMPACT i, mean it was really
really important for us to make this as Much West
virginia is humanly. Possible and you, Know i'll ADMIT i
didn't realize until we did some research and really started
(43:06):
doubling down on that commitment that there is an ice
skating rink company right here In West. Virginia SO i,
mean the rink is going to be, bigger, better and
straight From West virginia With West Virginia cruise installing. It
and that goes the same thing for.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
All of our.
Speaker 22 (43:19):

kind of you know now that going into year. Three

how much you. Know it really consumes the planning period

we're talking about light the night three hundred and sixty
