Speaker 5 (02:36):
How you doing, man, I'm good. It feels like I
was just here. You have an entirely different view of
the building. Yeah, from another seat over I don't sit
over here very often. It's kind of weird.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
It is weird. It's like, you know, in my house,
my wife and I sit on the couch. When I
sit on her side of the couch, Yeah, it's like,
this is not right. You know, I need to be
back on my side of the cach.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
It's almost like Sheldon Cooper's you're in my spot exactly. Well,
your spot is in a high school football booth, it
was last night. Talked about the game last night, Well.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
I tell you what.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
That freshman running back for George Washington is as good
as advertised, Young Jacob Black. He he really took over
the game. Cy Persinger was as good as advertised. Both
of them had very good games for the Patriots last night.
They got a They started slow, but picked up the
momentum down the stretch and they kept just feeding Black

(03:29):
and he just kept eating and he ended up with
three touchdowns and he had more than one hundred yards
of rushing. He really really shined in that opening night
for GW. Spring Valley has a reasonably good team, but
they got to learn to reign in the penalties. They
killed themselves with penalties on many of their drives. So
that was pretty much the story of that game last night.

(03:51):
And now you look ahead to tonight's game. Tonight, we've
got PoCA, which has a lot of young guys and
they're on the road at Buffalo, Buffalo with an entirely
new coaching staff and an entirely new coaching philosophy. Andy
Anderson their head coach now, who was an assistant at
George Washington for many years and he's there now, and
he brought along Scott Tinsley, who's a well known name

(04:13):
in football here in the Kanawh Valley and for many
years as coached at various places. In his brand of
offense is one that everybody sort of marvels at, So
it'll be interesting to see how he implements those wrinkles
of his offense into what they do at Buffalo, where,
you know, because it's a small school, you're often limited
in the number of players you have, so it'll be

(04:34):
interesting interesting to see how they have developed that talent
to mesh with Tinsley's system. To you and Aaron Parker
on the call today, we are on the call tonight.
All right, what's your Tennessee volunteers doing. They're in Atlanta
playing Syracuse Battle of the Orange.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
I saw a graphic the other day where they somebody
had a computer generated picture of a Tennessee player wearing
all orange, which they do from occasion occasionally, but this
one also had an orange helmet, and somebody had suggested
they need to wear that tomorrow to show them who
the real orange men are. I frankly don't know what
to expect. The quarterback was fired or walked off the job,

(05:18):
or whatever you want to describe it over the off season,
and it became an ugly national situation. They've picked up
this guy who was at Appalachian State and from all accounts,
was very good. But you know, there's a big difference
between the sun Belt and the SEC as you're alma
mater may learn tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Yeah, it is interesting because Dave Wilson's actually in the
building here today. Because Wilson, you know, has been all
over he did high school FOOTBA last time as the
business I'm now he's flying down with the team because
he's part of the broadcast team there for Marshall. So
we got two people in the building wearing Marshall green today, well,
which is more than we normally.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Usually it's just me that's unusual. Yeah, I wore my
Tennessee orange today. I always wear it on the college
color Saturday or by Friday.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
I got you, I got you all right real quick
before we let you go. Know, you've got stuff to
do on the Outdoor Show tomorrow. What you got, Oh,
let's see.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
I took a fishing trip last Sunday with my daughter
down New River, so I got a couple of segments
with Larry Nybert or the West Virginia Experience, just talking
about it's been a phenomenal fishing year on the New
River for float trips and we caught in excess of
fifty to seventy five fish. None of them were gigantic,

(06:29):
which is kind of how it is this time of year.
But they have been at times catching really big fish
through the summer and that's really unusual. So it's been
a great year for fishing on the New River. We'll
talk about that also Monday of the first hunting seasons
of the fall, as the early Canada goose season opens up,
as well as the dove season, so we'll talk to
Mike Peters about that and next is it next weekend?

(06:54):
I have to two weekends they will begin two weekends
from now they begin the elk tours down at Chief
Logan State Park on the Tomlin Wildlife Management Area. Those
book up fast, so we'll talk tomorrow to Deputy Superintendent
of parks, about getting yourself in on that. Get your
reservations made and go down and spend the weekend in
Logan County and.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Check out the elk. And I'll tell you when they
first started down he got jerichos. While you're there, Yeah,
while you're there, and you had to take in all
of the fine eateries there.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
You know.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
One of the things about that, and I'll let you
go is when that was first talked about, people in
Logan said, nobody's going to come to see these elk.
I mean, who cared? They were wrong? Yeah, they were wrong,
but most people go from all over.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
To his credit, Governor Earl Ray Tomlin realized that and
he was the one that ultimately that were you know,
movers and shakers they said get this. He said get
this done. Yeah, because he looked at what Kentucky had
seen in that and this is not hunting, this is
just looking at Yeah, it's just the eco tourism that
Kentucky got out of it. Now Kentucky went about it

(07:57):
in a far different way. Kentucky was sort of a
pioneer and reintroduced the elk. They introduced ten thousand on
day one, and of course they have a substantial population
now West Virginia. By the time they got around to
doing it and convincing everybody to do it and get
on board with it, things had changed as far as
the ideas of moving elk in any servid because of

(08:18):
the disease concerns. So they wound up introducing instead of
ten thousand, which was their plan too, they introduced like
eighteen because that's all they could get at the time,
but they wanted to get it started. And so it's
been a slow progression for West Virginia's elk herd, but
they're up to a point now where they probably can't
count them. They probably got between one hundred and two

(08:41):
hundred something like that, and they don't necessarily they track
a lot of them, but I don't think they can
track them all now. You know, occasionally they'll have one
wander through that's not tagged. So it's interesting to see
how it grows. It's just a lot slower than what
happened in Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
All right, have a good broadcast tonight. We'll be listening
to the show tomorrow morning. Thanks on. I appreciate that.
We'll talk to you Chris Lawrence again. It it's nine sixteen.
Let's bring an Angie Gillenwater Now from the Canal Charleston,
New Maine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet
of the Week. Angie, Good morning, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
How's it going with you? You ready for the long weekend?

Speaker 6 (09:17):
I am. I have to work tomorrow, so my weekend
is not quite as well. I gotch, but I am
looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I gotcha. I'll be working Sunday, so I completely understand,
all right. So, as always, our pets picture is posted
Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and at Dave seventy n
X also on the WCCHS Network Facebook page. Big Debra
is our dog this week. Tell us about Big Debra.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
So, Big Debra's currently my favorite shelter dog that we
have right now. She's if you look at her picture,
she's all white and then just has like a little
black and tan face mask. She's about sixty ish pounds
hints her name. But she's great with other dogs, loves
to play with other dogs, and has shown to do
well with kids as far as we can tell. And

(10:06):
she is part of the pick your price adoption special
we have going on right now. Which is exactly what
it sounds like. You will tell us what you want
to pay for a dog or.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
A puppy, and this is one of the more popular
things that you guys do up there. And how is
that possible in to pick your price? Do you have
sponsors or how does that work? Or are you just
trying to move some animals out?

Speaker 6 (10:28):
Yeah, so we are at once again, not to sound
like a broken record, but we're at critical capacity for
dogs and puppies, which is why the cats are setting
this adoption special out. I got you, so that we're
pretty comfortable in facing for cats, but dogs and puppies
we don't really have anywhere to put them anymore. And
yesterday morning somebody had dropped five puppies in her parking lot,

(10:51):
so we were we had to act fast and include
puppies in this special to make room for those new guys.
But you would think, you know, everyone comes up there
and it's like I want to pay fifty cents for
a dog, but we actually average about thirty dollars per
adoption when people want to pick their price, so we're
still generating adoption revenue. We're not just giving dogs away.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yeah, I got you.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
Yeah, so it actually ends up being a pretty successful
event in one of the more popular ones we do.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
You know, Angie, I hate to bring up stories like this,
but sometimes we have to. You may have seen this
in the news, a story from Saint Albans where a
man has been charged with animal cruelty for severely abusing
a kitten. I'll spare you all the details of this
piece of crap human, but you can read about it
on the Saint Albans Police Department's Facebook page. And we
actually had a text to the show somebody wanted to know,

(11:40):
what can you tell us about the kittens.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
I can't share too many details, but what I can
say is he is at KHA and he has been stabilized.
That was a situation that brought a lot of our
team to tears. It was very upsetting to see. But
right now, the news humane officer for Saint Albans is
actually an ex KHA employee, so we're very very proud

(12:06):
of her and the work she's doing for Saint Albans already.
But yet the kitten is with us, He stabilized and
is expected to make a full recovery with slight, non
life threatening complications.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Yeah, and that's a story. I read it. I think
you shared it on your personal page, I think, and
then I think it's where I saw it first, and
it is on the Saint albans Uh. I think it
was their police department's Facebook page. Just the horrible story.
And again we're going to share. We're going to spare
the people of the details on that, but glad to
know that the kitten is has survived. What do you
need of up there as far as donations go, uh.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
So, some big knees right now actually are volunteers where
we have so many dogs that need to go out
or you know, so many dogs in our care that
need that one on one attention. Our animal care team
actually said one of the biggest needs besides the usual
of you know, Purina chowel products and what and sorry
wet dog food. Besides those typical needs, volunteers are a

(13:05):
big one. Just an extra set of hands that help
us clean or give these animals the one on one
attention they deserve.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
You guys out anywhere this Labor Day weekend. Know you
said you got to work, you have any public events,
We are.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Not the only one we had this week. You was
actually yesterday at Bridge Valley and it was actually an
incredibly successful event. I went there with seven animals and
five got.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Adopted, so that was That's awesome. Big shout out to
doctor Saxon to post folks up their Bridge Valley. Hey,
on the kitten, somebody texted wanted to know how do
we have any idea how old that kitten was?

Speaker 6 (13:38):
So the guest is about six to eight months old.
It's an older kitten, but definitely not an adult cat.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
All right, Hey, Angie, I appreciate you taking time out
of your schedule. Sorry you got to work tomorrow, but enjoy
as much of the holiday weekend as you can.

Speaker 6 (13:51):
Okay, absolutely, you two.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
All right? Angie gillen Water from the Charleston You Main
Association talking about Big Deborah. That is the dog this week.
Picture posted on Dave Violand Radio on Facebook, also the

wv metronews dot com under the podcast Men, You're gonna
bring in Daniel Woods here to talk a little West

(16:25):
Virginia State football. As we begin our coverage on that,
but I had a text here I wanted to read
Sex and Dave. How about the Michael Parsons trade. I'm
not upset about it. Parsons wasn't gonna make or break
their super Bowl chances anyway. Remember during the playoff game
versus the Packers a few years ago, the Packers rookie
quarterback walked off over Parsons and he had the one
thousand yard stare of defeats. Then we saw the same

(16:45):
performance during big games the following season, not a loss.
The person they need to get right up next to
Jerry Jones, Well that's not gonna happen. I don't disagree
with the Texter at all, but when Jerry Jones goes away,
then it becomes Stephen Jones and Charlotte Anderson Jones. So
it's gonna stay right where it is. I was not
upset as a cowboy fan about the Michael Parsons trade.

(17:06):
And I've said this before, Daniel, I may bring you
in on this as well. Here's why. And I'm not
going to turn into support show, I promise, but here's why.
I wasn't upset about the Michael Parson trade. He's an
incredible defensive player, one of the two or three best
defensive players in the league. Absolutely, contract disputes happen all
the time. I get that people hold out for more money,
they say crap about the ownership whatever. When he took

(17:27):
a crap on his team, which is what he did
by saying when they thought he was going to go
to Detroit, at one point he made the comment, I
want to go where I'm surrounded by winners. Okay, that's
that's a big blank you to the team. Out you go.
I agree.

Speaker 11 (17:45):
Don't divide the locker room, I think is the biggest
thing you're asking for in a situation like that. I'm
a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, born and raised. In the last
couple of years, great defensive players Cam Heyward TJ. Watt
have both been in contract disputes with the franchise. The
reason they get welcomed back is because they don't take
that step. Yeah in the meantime, So not the.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Fault of your teammate. He's not the one with the
check book to get the you know you're you know
you're a defensive player. The poor kicker didn't do anything,
do you He wants you to get paid.

Speaker 11 (18:11):
Too right exactly, and he got paid. He's gonna be
the highest paid non quarterback in the history of professional football.
So I don't necessarily understand the need to take that
step and use that as bargaining because I don't think
it helps anybody.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
And we got we get two first round draft picks
out of that. So I'm not gonna say it's going
to be the Herschel Walker deal of the nineteen eighties
that led us to a Super Bowl. But I'm just
saying I'm one hundred percent for it. All right, West
Virginia State Football, it's back. We've carried it in the past.
It's back. On one of seven three the beat talk
about we're really excited.

Speaker 11 (18:41):
We're going to Carson Newman actually pulling out here in
about three hours. We will. We will load the buses
up in Institute and head for East Tennessee, opening up
the season against a really, really good team in Carson
Newman that made the D two playoffs last year. But
John Pennington's back for year nine as the head coach
at West Virginia State. He's now the winningest coach in
program history. UH, and the Yellow Jackets there's some excitement,

(19:04):
you know, winning record last year six and five, right
around the middle of the Mountain East Conference. Picked there again, Uh,
but an opportunity to take some steps up in the
standings this year wide open conference. To be completely honest,
and there's a lot of talent on this roster, a
lot of Division one transfers that have joined this team
over the last calendar year. And the coaching staff's excited.

(19:25):
I know I'm excited. Me and Tom Bragg are going
to be on the airwaves on one oh seven three
The Beat all season.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
And again it's uh, it's great partnership and it's something
that we did in the past and you know it
went way, but but it's back again. And to be
able to have uh, there's such a and I'm actually
compliments of President Cage. I'm drinking from my West Virginia
State University coffee monk here. Appreciate that president on board
with that, President Cage, I need one of those. Yeah,
well all right, President Cage. And and mister Bailey, if

(19:54):
you're listening out there, we need to get Daniel one
of those.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
You need.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
You need some gear. But there's such a following, such
a loyalty to some I mean not just West Region State.
I mean, you see what you see you see with
the other schools that you've covered in the NC. It's
an exciting brand.

Speaker 11 (20:07):
Of football, absolutely, And I think one thing that I've
said to a lot of people the last couple of
years is with Division I football and high level power
conference football, there are people that are more traditional college
sports fans that are getting soured on what it's become
with NIL and pay for play and revenue sharing now
with the House settlement, If you want a more pure

(20:30):
version of what you think college athletics is supposed to be,
that's what your local Division two program is. I'm coming
to Charleston in the last month from Martinsburg, where we
covered Shepherd University really closely and they had a really
loyal following. I'm seeing the same thing here with West
Virginia State, and it's something that i really love to get.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
On board with.

Speaker 11 (20:51):
Because what I've always talked about is the reason that
I have wanted to work in college sports on the
broadcasting side, is there is just something very special about
the connection between a community and its team, and college
sports is I think where you find that the most
in the United States.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
And of course you have so many players on that level,
Daniel that are actually from I mean generally speaking, are
from the state of West Virginia.

Speaker 11 (21:19):
You're right, and there's guys all over the state roster
that that would be recognizable names two people coming from
around the area. And that goes across the entire remec's.
It's predominantly schools in the state of West Virginia. And
I was just talking about on the sports this morning
in the morning News. You see actually opened up last

(21:39):
night blew out Livingston and their starting quarterback is Ian
Hamrick from Gilmour County and he threw five touchdowns last night.
Ie and and Fairmont State last night beat Seaton Hill
Leonard Farrow from Oak Hill two hundred and seventy five
rushing yards. I mean, these are local kids getting opportunities
and really blowing them out.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Of the water. I love it. I'm talking to Daniel
Wood's Dave Allen Show and five any live percent imparted
by Generations Physical Therapy nine practices all offered extended hour
So access to physical therapy has never been easier. Three
zero four seven, six zero fifty six sixtyear. Visit generationspt
dot com. Who are some of the names we need
to look at here on the State roster.

Speaker 11 (22:14):
I think to start, everybody wants to start at the
quarterback position. And you've got a new quarterback we're expecting
to see tomorrow for State. That's a transfer from Division
one from Charleston Southern, Caleb Jackson, true dual threat guy,
going to fit really well into the offense that John
Pennington and his new offensive coordinator Matt Cavallero, who's a
former WVU quarterback, are going to be implementing this year.

(22:35):
Those are the that's really where you start as a
quarterback position, but running back is going to be very
important on this team. With Justin Posoa, he's back as
an All conference guy. Last year, you lose Joel Felder,
who's one of the best players in program history. He
transferred at the end of last season, but you replace
him with another all conference running back in Justin Posoa.
And then on the defensive side of the ball, one returner,

(22:57):
one transfer Marshaun Mankins at linebacker. Everybody's really excited to
get him back. He was hurt last year after just
a couple of games. And then at free safety, remember
the name Jacob Camacho. That is a guy that's just
a cool name. It's just an awesome name. But Jacob
Camacho is a guy that has been brought up to
me a couple of times as somebody that they really

(23:18):
look at that could be one of the best defensive
backs in the Mountain East Conference. He started his college
career in the junior college ranks in Iowa, was at
Florida International last year as an FBS guy, and now
is at West Virginia State. They're really excited about him.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
All right. What time's coverage start tomorrow? Coverge starts eleven
forty five, kickof at noon, all right, And on the
road there in the land of Chris Lawrence down there
in East Tennessee, we're looking forward to it, all right,
give me your early call on the Mountaineers tomor I
mean it should be an easy victory. Well, what do
you expect to see? I know you'll be keeping an
eye on it, even though you're doing a game, You'll
be keep an eye on what's going on with your
beloved West Virginia Mountaineers.

Speaker 11 (23:54):
What do you think I'm looking at questions to be
answered more about who spends more time on the field
than anything other than that, because I mean, you're a
near forty point favorite. I mean, there's really no question
unless something goes horribly awry, what the result is going
to be for WVU quarterback obviously is where everybody wants
to look. Because you had five guys on the depth chart,

(24:14):
all listed with oars this week. Tony Creedy said in
the Morning News this morning he's expecting Nico Mark You'll
to be the first guy out there. My question is
how many guys do you see? How many guys play
meaningful snaps? And then I want to see this defense
do something because it was very bad last year in
Neil Brown's last season. You've got a very well respected
defensive coordinator in Zach Ally that does a lot of

(24:37):
things that I think are going to excite Mountaineer fans
of the defensive side of the ball. Problem is, you've
got eleven new starters, and I think that's where you're
gonna probably try to see the most questions answered tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
You know, you could take the mount and Ear quarterback
room and the Cleveland Brown quarterback room, put them together
and have a team that's fair.

Speaker 11 (24:54):
Yeah, that's a great point, and I'll say this, you
got Marshall tomorrow against Georgia too. Rich Rodriguez his he's
not afraid to play all of his quarterbacks. Tony Gibson
said he's not afraid to play all of his quarterbacks.
There's a chance between the two Division one programs in
this state, we could see eight.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Quarterbacks play tomorrow because there's five guys.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
In the competition.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Just hoping that for Marshall, I'm just hoping that it's
that it's something that Gibbie wants to do and not
that he has to do because it's like a mass
unit out there. That's a fair please. That's what I'm
hoping for tomorrow. And I mentioned earlier. You know, Dave
Wilson is in the building today. Wilson is going to
be doing talk line from here. He's he's setting down
to the Marshall Georgia game. He'll be on the on
the plane because he does the pregame show down there.

(25:34):
So we've doubled the number of people with Marshall gear
in the building today because I saw Wilson coming in
with his his Marshall polo and his Marshall baseball cap.
So there's two of us in the building today sporting
Marshall's I saw its start.

Speaker 11 (25:47):
Have you had any conversations with him about the travel
he does for these Marshall trips because he does Morgantown
High on Fridays.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Yeah, well, I mean, let me tell you something about it.
And I would never compliment Dave Wilson to his face ever, Okay,
but I will say this, Okay, he did. He and
TJ were at the business summit, so they're they're in
Greenborough County. He hauls it back to Morgantown to do
the ball game last night, drives down and spent to
I think he said he spent the night at his
parents house. And then he drives down this morning to

(26:15):
do talk line from here. Then he drives to Tri State,
gets on the plane to fly down to Georgia for
the Marshall In Bulldogs game, and then he'll will arrive
back at Tri State about ten thirty last night, and
then he'll be back at work on Monday. Incredible. Uh.
You know, I never compliment the guy to his face ever,
but I will say this. He's a He's a hell

(26:35):
of a man. He really is.

Speaker 11 (26:37):
I did a Morgantown Martinsburg game last year at Morgantown.
I was talking about ah, yeah, I gotta get up
drive or I got to drive back to Martinsburg tonight
do the Shepherd game tomorrow. He looks at me, goes, yeah,
I'm getting out of here, gonna do my hit on
game night, drive to Charleston, getting Mark Martin's car, drive
to North Carolina. Then we're getting up at six tomorrow
and driving the rest of the way in Georgia Southern.

(26:58):
And I felt pretty bad about myself after that.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
We had a quick text here it says, never ending drama,
disgusting attitudes, and just the long gone love of the
game by multimillionaire narcissist is exactly why I'll never be
a pro sports fan. College ball is where it's at.
I don't disagree with that statement, however, college is getting
just about that. I mean, you know, which is all

(27:20):
the more reason why you should follow these schools in
West Virginia, Memec.

Speaker 11 (27:23):
That's why I encourage you to follow your local Division

How you doing? I'm doing good, Dave?

Speaker 6 (31:44):
How a you doing?

This is my first time being on the show.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Okay, all right, Well we'll try to be real gentle

He can do what he wants.

Speaker 17 (31:54):
I will not wear pants until October first, is just
the thing.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Okay, all right, No, just pants October first. Care for him?
I'm with me actually on that mostly. Yeah, but I
got I got legs that need to be covered. I'm
not gonna lie to you. So, I mean they the
more I like colder weather because the more I'm covered,
the more attractive I am. So if you would read
into that one, yeah, I like that more of me

(32:17):
that can't be said to shoot look a little sharper
in the winter. Yeah, there you go, because more of
me's covered. All right, DJJ? What's the Spartan thing? Man?
Tell us about them?

Speaker 20 (32:27):
So the Spartan Race World trifecta is going to be
going down in Glenn Jean at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.
We're familiar with that area over in the Fayetteville area
and Charleston. West Virginia has been awarded the opportunity to
host the twenty twenty five West Virginia Spartan Trifecta World
Championship opening ceremony. I know it's a lot to say,

(32:48):
it's a mouthful, but we have the opening ceremony that's
going to be happening at Hadad Riverfront Park. The whole
Spartan team is going to be hanging out with us
on that Thursday, September fourth, and so we're here to
talk about that and invite our community down, our friends
down to come hang out and enjoy all things Spartan Race. Now,
explain Spartan Race, Well, what exactly is it? So there
are multiple layers to the Spartan Race. It was actually

(33:11):
founded in twenty ten in the mountains of Vermont and
it has evolved into many other grueling, challenging but also fun,
encouraging races to challenge athletes of all levels. They even
have a kid's race, they have family races, and then
they have like tough mutter. They have races that are
even way more challenging with rope climbs, swimming and you

(33:32):
have to It's really like a marathon triathlon, but with
a lot more grueling activities to get through the whole
ten k, five k, twenty five k's. It's a very
very challenging endurance race.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Anytime I hear about these types of events like this
and there's so many different things going on, I'm thinking,
I'm doing good to walk down the steps from my
office and not spill my coffee. Okay, how do these guys?
Is just something? Now, have you ever taken a part
in anything like this yourself?

Speaker 20 (34:02):
I never have, but I've watched videos of it and
knew what it was even prior and already made the
decision that this is not for me. But the fact
that we're having it here at Summitt Bechtel is a
beautiful thing because it's really designed. The course is designed
to have all these different obstacles for these world class athletes.
People actually train seriously to compete in this, and then

(34:23):
people like me can go out and you can go
out and just sign up and have fun, have a
good time, and you know, essentially play on these obstacles.
So I was watching videos of this and kind of
seeing how it gets started and some of the things
that these athletes do. They even offer training programs on
Spartan dot com. I encourage you to go check that
out some nutrition and program training to help you get

(34:46):
ready for these kind of races as well.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
I mean, I would think that I can't even begin
to think what the training would be like for an
event like this and what the nutrition has to go in.

Speaker 20 (34:55):
I mean, it's insane, yep, yep. And when you look
at some of these races, they're not like a twenty
a race. They're way longer, they're way more intent. So
these athletes are are really high level.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
And it's a big deal for West Virginia to be
able to have this thing, and even bigger deal for
Charleston to be involved in the In the kickoff celebrations
for it, talk about how that all came about for
Charleston just going to that yep.

Speaker 20 (35:18):
So Tim Brady and our Charleston Visitors Bureau team has
done a phenomenal job at collaborating with myself and also
our audio and visual production team. We really want this
to look and feel almost like an Olympic opening ceremony.
You know, you see on TV all the excitement, all
the music, all the MC's, all of the engagement with

(35:40):
the crowd, because this is a huge celebration. So as
we're looking at where do these races take place, there's
for Wayne, Indiana, There's Austin, Texas, There's places all over
the world. Again, and so this trifecta championship, this opening ceremony.
Being able to host this in this city of Charleston,
West Virginia, it's just such an honor and such an

(36:00):
experience that we're designing with the team at the CVB,
working with West Virginia Tourism as well, and just really
spreading this word beyond the limits of the Charleston region.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
And I love the fact again because I'm a money guy,
and I love the fact that it's and Brady and
I talk about it all the time. It's heads and beds,
and it's bringing to people that cover this. It's not
just about the athletes themselves coming in, but the people.
As you said, you talked about going on to watching
the videos, Well, somebody has to make those videos. So
people they're going to come with a whole lot of
people with them. Absolutely.

Speaker 20 (36:31):
I was looking at some of the opening ceremony numbers
as we were getting ready for next Thursday, and I've
got over twenty five countries being represented right now that
we're going to have at the opening ceremony, which includes
the athletes, which includes who else, their families, family, some
of their friends and supporters, journalists and journalists, heads and
beds heads and beds man, and people going to restaurants

(36:53):
and so on and so forth.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
It's really really a great thing for West Virginia to
be able to have this, And hats off to for
you guys, for you and Brady, you know, for getting
this this thing to Charleston the Mayor's office of course,
and also with Chelsea Ruby and folks and tourism as well,
because this is a major deal for West Virginia to
have this.

Speaker 20 (37:10):
It is it is when you look at the other
cities that are having this as well, and you look
at what we're doing with the bike race and these
other national and international activities. We're having this ray here
in our backyard. And speaking of international, there is also
other layers of entertainment that's happening at the opening ceremony,
so it's not just myself playing music. Which, by the way,
this starts at five pm and it's gonna go until

(37:31):
ten pm. But we know that most of the party
is gonna get gone. We're gonna have the official Spartan
team doing their m seeing hosting introductions. However, speaking of international,
we have a DJ. He goes by the name of DJ.
He goes by the name of Trays. He's more than
a DJ, he's a producer. He's a music songwriter. He's highly,
highly talented, one of the top DJs in the world.

(37:53):
We're bringing him here to Charleston for a very special
performance after the opening Sarah mony kicks off. Then we
just really started the party. So this DJ, this producer again,
he's by way of New Mexico tours all over the world,
has way more experience in festivals, concerts and these scale
of events, and we thought, hey, the only way to

(38:15):
do this right and make the entertainment as high level
as we want to present is to bring in a
DJ of this caliber and have this global sound fused
with the Appalachian experience.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
But I mean, and having you there too, I mean,
you're you're you're not exactly, you know, small potatoes either.
I mean you're kind of you're a big deal, you know,
around around here at another area too, So it's great
to have you involved with it as well. Thanks Today.

Hadad Riverfront, which you're familiar with, almost like a live
on the levee setup. So from five pm to ten pm,
we're gonna have food trucks, we're gonna have the Spartan
teams selling the Spartan official merchandise as well plenty of athletes,

(39:27):
followed by about midway through, we'll kick off the ceremony
with the official introductions of countries, the official introductions of
the athletes, and that'll be about midway through, and then
seven point thirty until ten o'clock. We're gonna have a
good time. We're gonna have a good party and celebrate

we like.

Speaker 20 (40:06):
We love that.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
All right, let's speak. Let's talk about an annual event

of the loss of one of the key components to
that talking about Doug scaff and it's Mountaineers Night Out.
It's still going on a little bit different talk about them.

Speaker 17 (40:22):
It is a little bit different if remember the Guys'
Night Out and we're not having guys n out this year.
The YW it did not have the Girls' Night Out either.
So we're gonna do Mountaineers Night Out. We're inviting all gals,
all guys to this Mountaineer watching football party, tailgate party
as a fundraiser, and we're raising money for the Western

(40:44):
Yia Kids Cancer Crusaders along with the Bob Burdett Center,
Duck scaff Junior and I, along with the Animal Steve Z.
We got together probably in March at the Capital Market
and started talking about doing this. After Doug's death, we thought, well,
what better way to continue to honor him than just
to keep things, to keep things rolling. And one of

(41:06):
his favorite charities was this question you had kids Cancer Crusaders.
So we're having Mountaineers Night Out. It is September the twentieth,
it'll be three weeks from tomorrow. It's at the Red
Carpet Pavilion. Mountaineers Night Out presented by Manny Ellison, Lane.

prior to kickoff with the food and drink, and we're
going to have a little special tribute to Doug at halftime.
Maris is going to be there to help us honor
her late husband, and we're going to do a little
donation to the scholarship fund that w Foundation has already

(42:45):
named in his honor, and there's a West Virginia alumni
chapter down here, so we're going to funnel it through
Eric o'nold and his chapter for the Doug scaff for
Moral Scholarship Fund. Sounds like a lot of fun. It's
always a lot of fun. This year it's going to
be not just guys. We want the the ladies to
come as well and just enjoy the fellowship, enjoy the football,
enjoy the food, and raise money for two amazingly worthy

(43:09):
causes and a little tribute to Doug again. September the twentieth,
two hours prior to kickoff, we take on the Mountaineers,
will be taken on the Jayhawks of Kansas. We hope
to be going in at that about three and oh, right,
I mean take care of business tomorrow Athens next week

ten or van myself and uh, we're going to pass
them out while they last.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
So you just got to hand out. Yeah, just stop buying.

Speaker 14 (48:00):
We'll get you one all right while they last again. Okay,
but I you aint doing it for an hour, right, correct,
twelve noon to one o'clock. O.

Speaker 3 (48:07):
Right, So don't show up at one on one.

Speaker 14 (48:09):
Yeah, don't dilly dally.

Speaker 3 (48:10):
I mean a matter of fact, you may not want
to show up at twelve fifty because they may all
be gone by then. So just by not being there
at noon, they could a matter of fact, go get
in line. Now, just the people would love that at Gomar.
It's not like an ACDC concert. I mean, come on now,
all right, So, I mean, you know, people will do
crazy things, you know, if they get this money. Here's
the age old question. Everybody always ask, what would you

(48:33):
do if you wont Jenny.

Speaker 14 (48:34):
Martch, I would share all of it, except for a
little bit for myself.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Okay, I did.

Speaker 14 (48:39):
I traveled on Wednesday, and I stopped three times, three
different states, and about one ticket in each state.

Speaker 3 (48:45):
And I checked the tickets left yesterday. I didn't have
one single number. I had TJ. Meadows and oh my goodness,
look who's here. It's it's Dave Wilson. Hi, Dave, how
are you, buddy?

Speaker 5 (48:57):
I'm great.

Speaker 3 (48:58):
I gave you some big compliments. Hold on one second.
I gave you some big compliments earlier, and I said
that I not TJ. You were looking at me. I said,
I would never compliment you to your face. Well, I
appreciate it, but so you'll have to go back and
listen to the podcast. If you want to hear what
I said about you, so tell me things about I
was talking about your travel, your travel schedule. Oh okay,
So what would you do if you want nearly a
billion dollars?

Speaker 15 (49:17):
Here's the thing you would You will never know because
I will disappear and you will never ever see me again.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Mad Now here's the question.

Speaker 14 (49:25):
Is West Virginia state where you have to reveal your
identity if you want to be No, No, you.

Speaker 3 (49:30):
Can remain not to be. I think okay, you can
remain Meadows.

Speaker 14 (49:33):
I agree with him.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
I mean, I know you you're you're you're all about investing.
That's what you're gonna do. A billion dollars. You're going
to be invested a billion dollars in something index funds. Simple, easy,
enjoy my ten to twelve percent of a year. But
all of you would do something fun. I mean, you
know you said that nobody would ever see you again,
So probably plastic surgery is probably.

Speaker 6 (49:54):
What you would get.

Speaker 15 (49:55):
No, I will buy a big, beautiful farm somewhere, maybe
toward lewis Burg, I like Tucker County.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
I will live on a ridge and you will never
see me again. All right, Meadows, what fun thing would
you do?

Speaker 21 (50:07):
Oh jeez, my wife and I love to travel, So
I would do like a around the world in a year,
hit every place on our list. And there's like, I
don't know, sixty seventy places on our list.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
Okay, what fun thing would you do?

Speaker 14 (50:20):
Take all my friends to the summit, just like Taylor Swift.

Speaker 3 (50:27):
We you know what, we could do an incredible radio promotion.
We had a billion dollars. We could get Travison and
Taytay to have their wedding here sponsored, you know, by
V one hundred.

Speaker 11 (50:39):
I saw their.

Speaker 14 (50:39):
Picture there they got engaged in West Virginia near one
of those signs.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
Yeah, I saw, Yeah, I saw. Is it gonna last, Jenny?
I mean, is it true love to.

Speaker 12 (50:47):
I think it.

Speaker 15 (50:48):
I think it will last all right over under on
that two years. No, you may look back on this
twenty years from now. Maybe the single biggest moment in
a Marria and history creates the Taylor Swift baby boom.
All the Swifties now get married, All the Swifties have
three or four kids because Tata does. Because changes the

(51:09):
course of history, and they say we need babies.

Speaker 12 (51:12):
Love.

Speaker 3 (51:13):
I mean, this marriage is going to be just like
Lonnie and Bert.

Speaker 20 (51:16):
I mean that one was great, Nie did not.

Speaker 3 (51:20):
That one didn't end well, and now they're both dead.

Speaker 20 (51:24):
But so way to bring us down there.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
If I'm just saying that the Dave Allen showing five
D Live has brought to you by by Morgan to Morgan,
America's largest injury law firm. All right, So, Jenny, you
are at Gomart tomorrow. That's the Biggin, as they say,
the big Big noon to one given out free powerball
tickets while it supplies.

Speaker 14 (51:40):
The last correct All right, appreciate pes. Do not knock
me over in your quest to get a powerball ticket?

Speaker 3 (51:46):
All right?

Speaker 6 (51:46):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (51:47):
My white security guard with me, Chris Lawrence tells me,
is that Logan Scott that's your security guard.

Speaker 20 (51:51):
No, it'll be Brian Bradley.

Speaker 3 (51:53):
Okay, oh okay, well mess with the big guy there.

Speaker 6 (51:56):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
Chris Lawrence has sent me a text and said their
wedding would be sponsored by Tutors.

Speaker 6 (52:00):
That's what.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
I love it. Name their kids after the biscuits. Yes,
here's my daughter Mary B or my son Mary B. Well,
my my favorite Tutor biscuit is the rocket, which you
