The final regular season homestand for the Dirty Birds over
at Gomar Ballpark, they begin a long homestand against Gastonia.
The the Ghost Peppers' gearing from the Dirty Birds is
here to talk about. Hey, Jill, how you going?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (02:27):
Good morning the Ghost Peppers.

Speaker 9 (02:29):
Yeah, the Ghost Peppers.

Speaker 6 (02:31):
Is that a relatively new name for our opponents?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Sir?

Speaker 9 (02:33):
Yes, they changed it this year. Actually last year they
went through a new ownership, so they were just called
the Gastonia Baseball Club and they tested out about six
different alternate identities or potential identities than they did a
fan vote, and the Ghost Peppers won.

Speaker 6 (02:47):
Well, I kind of like it. I mean it's it's different, yeah,
and that's in the world of baseball. I mean that's
what everybody wants. They want these different name like the
Honey Badgers and what's the most unique name you've ever heard?

Speaker 9 (02:58):
Ooh?

Speaker 6 (03:00):
I mean it's kind of a.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
That's a hard one.

Speaker 9 (03:01):
I mean, the Dirty Birds is one that a lot
of people definitely remember there.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
Were And that's the thing. When the name changed happened
a couple of years ago, there was a little controversy
about it whatever, And I said then and you and
the other folks said that The thing about it is
is people that are really into baseball on the non
non big league level, they love these unique names. And
it's about the merchandise. And I promise you people have
ordered Dirty Birds merchandise that couldn't find Charleston, West Virginia

(03:28):
on a map exactly.

Speaker 9 (03:29):
I know someone at least from Oregon. I remember specifically
filling one from Oregon last week.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
People go online and they just looked for it for
these unique things. Yeah, all right, So it's a final
homestand gets underway tonight. Talk about the season over off
the Dirty Bard. It's not exactly where we wanted to be,
but still fun. No job.

Speaker 9 (03:45):
Yeah, so, no no playoffs this year, unfortunately. I know
we had high hopes after going to the championship game
last season, but this is PJ. Phillips, our manager, only
his second time in his managerial career to not make
the playoffs. So we know next year he's going to
come back and have a great team for us. But overall,
we've had a great time at the stadium. Weather was

(04:06):
a little iffy, lot of rain, a lot of hot days,
but the boys still had a great time. Any fan
that did come to the ballpark, I hope that you
all had a good time and you got six more
days to come back out and enjoy some baseball.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
Let's take it day by day. What's you got going
on tonight?

Speaker 9 (04:18):
So today is our two dollars Tuesdays it's usually two
dollar tickets hot dog, soda, popcorn, but we are partnering
with Mountaineer Food Bank where if you bring three canned
food items you get to have a free ticket to
the ball game. So it is cheaper than two dollars
depending on where you go get your canned food items,
and you're helping give back to the community.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
And that's a big part of what the Dirty Birds do. Yeah,
I mean it's I mean from this event to we'll
be over there in October for annual or not backpack
attack or trick or beat. I should say I get
our events mixed up sometimes and selango loll light the
night you folks in this and Andy Shay and all that.
I mean, you really like giving back to the community, definitely,
I mean that.

Speaker 9 (04:59):
That's frankly why here. Andy. She called me up about
two years ago and said, I need someone to help
handle our community relations. Will you come and do that?
And that's that's why I'm here in Charleston right now,
is to help build that community aspect of the team.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
There's not a single event I can think of around
Charleston that you guys aren't part of.

Speaker 10 (05:17):
Either.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
You've got Dusty the mascot out there. You yourself show up,
other people show up. I know when we did the
backpack attack a couple of weeks ago. I mean it
was like one hundred degrees out there, and Dusty was
out there, you know, being Dusty. We made sure Dusty
was hydrated, Yes exactly. Let Dusty go inside the building,
you know from time to time. All right, So that's
what's happening tonight. Let's go to Wednesday.

Speaker 9 (05:36):
Tomorrow is our Wolf Wednesday. Your dogs can come to
the ballpark for free and there will be a little
water bowls sometimes the little giveaways, depending on what community
partners we have there. Thursday is actually kind of a
newer promotion. Most teams do a fan appreciation night on
the last game of the season. We decided to do
it on Thursday. So we have some partners coming out

(05:57):
to give free items. You can get some free dirty Birds, morece,
some free coupons from McDonald's, free coupons from Dave and
Busters and some other community partners that we have. And
also Thursdays are always thirsty Thursdays, so it is one
dollar beer and water from five thirty to seven thirty,
then it increases to four dollars. So that's Thursdays. Friday

(06:19):
is our last giveaway, and as you mentioned, Selingo Law
Light the Night is coming up. We're kind of doing
a giveaway surrounding that. So the first five hundred fans
get a shirt that says Naughty List MVP with the
Hay image of Dusty. And also that's the first five hundred,
but every single fan that walks through the gates on
Friday get a free Selingo Law Light the Night ticket

(06:41):
to opening nights on November twenty first.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
And I do want to mention and you and I
were talking about this off the air that the Selango
Law White Dit is covered up, bigger, better, stronger, faster,
you know, all the all the stuff that you talk about,
But now would be a good time to go online
and get those tickets.

Speaker 9 (06:57):
Correct, So if you come to the game on Friday,
we'll get a free ticket to opening night only, but
we do have it's open November twenty first, all the
way through January first, except for Christmas Day on the
twenty fifth, So you can get your tickets at Dblightthnight
dot com if you want to get your tickets early.

Speaker 6 (07:14):
And it's and why should people get their tickets early?
What's the advantage to that other than the lines.

Speaker 9 (07:20):
It is cheaper. You usually save a dollar.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
That's a good one at least.

Speaker 9 (07:23):
And we haven't necessarily sold out, but there was that
one Saturday where we basically did because there was eleven
thousand people in the ballpark at one time. So if
you want to come to a Friday or Saturday game,
not game Friday or Saturday night, I recommend getting your
tickets early. Or if you know that your family's coming
in town for Thanksgiving for Christmas, that's the time to

(07:45):
make sure you get your tickets now because it is cheaper,
all right.

Speaker 6 (07:48):
The gain we're talking with Joe garn to the Dirty Birds,
but Dave Alan Chilling five eighty Live is brought to
you in part by Hustin's Pizza. With this month, at
your local Hustand's you can get a large eten inch
pepperoni pizza and an order of six meat balls twenty
four now nine dinand deliver your pickup. Visit Hudson's Pizza
dot com. So every fan that comes to the gate
on Friday is going to get a free ticket for
opening night for Slango Law Light the night November the

(08:09):
twenty first, that's opening night. Take it from there while
we get on Saturday.

Speaker 11 (08:12):
Saturday is our.

Speaker 9 (08:13):
Last fireworks game of the season, and it's usually the
biggest one. Everyone thinks that our July fourth or July
third game is the biggest fireworks is actually our last one.
And for those of you who remember in May our
first fireworks night had to be canceled because of rain.
Every single firework that we purchased for that one is
being used for this Saturday, so it's going to be

(08:34):
two times as big. So last Saturday Fireworks and then
Sunday our final game of the season. A three o'clock
Star and it is Grandparents' Day presented by ARP. So
you can go to our social media or on the
website and you can sign up with your grandchildren to
be a part of something in game, whether you want
to sit in the bullpen for a half inning, whether
you want to be the playball kid throughout the first pitch,

(08:57):
be a guest broadcaster for an inning. We have a
lot of fun, free things that you can sign up
as a grandparent and grandchild.

Speaker 6 (09:03):
And of course that doesn't end the season. That just
sends the homestand and then you have games next week
on the road.

Speaker 9 (09:09):
Correct, The Boys go on the road Tuesday through Thursday
against high Point and then that's it.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
All right, Let's talk about the playoffs, even though the
Birds aren't going to be there. Who are the teams
we're looking at? And course, you know, the Birds made
it to the to the series so to speak, last year.
Unfortunately they lost. But let's talk about who the teams
are that we're looking at.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Me.

Speaker 9 (09:28):
Yeah, it's still a race right now for some of
the teams. So the two teams that made it in
the first half is Lancaster and high Point, who the
Boys are going to go face next week. Gastonia right
now is in first place, in the South, so these
games do matter where the dirty words canna have a
little bit of pride. Where we frankly have been having
a rough time against Gastonia. I don't mean statistically, I

(09:49):
mean there has been some beef between the guys, so
there's going to be some pride. Yeah, some bench clears
a little bit against And.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
Now you've piqued my interest even more, even though I
love baseball. So what's so, what's happened here, Joe?

Speaker 9 (10:01):
It's funny. I was talking to one of the guys
last night and they said that the coaching staff is great,
but the Gastonia players just seem to be a little
more chirpy, little mouth uh huh. And you know, when
when you got nothing to lose, your few games back
from first place, the dirty birds are not going to
go down with the fight. So they're I think they
would take some great pride in saying that they sent
Gastonia home early a.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Couple of brushbacks here and there. I mean, we don't
want to encourage that sort of thing, but it makes
it more interesting.

Speaker 9 (10:28):
You go the right and these these guys are they're
young athletes, they're what late early twenties, late twenties early thirties.
They're athletes, they're competitive. One of the guys, Demetrius More
He says, I don't know what happens that they just
start chirping at me, and I can just feel this
adrenaline surge. And for those of you who are athletes listening,
you you know that feeling.

Speaker 6 (10:46):
Exactly exactly all right. So, uh, we got a text
your somebody ask if we plan on doing anything for
September eleventh. Do we have anything, any plan, any anything plan.

Speaker 9 (10:56):
Nothing crazy? But yes, of course, of course we're gonna
have something planned for nine to eleven. As I said,
that's our fan appreciation night. We are going to do
a moment of silence per usual. We did actually just
buy a new American flag, so that will be up
and flying during the week as well.

Speaker 6 (11:09):
And we want to make sure people realize that this Saturday.
By the way, the weather is going to be great,
you know, I mean neck, I mean through. It's going
to be kind of a repeat of what we had.
We may have suffered early on with storms and lightning
and whatever, but there's no rain in which we need
some rain. But if you're coming out to the ballpark,
the weather's going to be fantastic, not too it's actually

(11:30):
gonna warm up a little bit by the weekend. It's
going to feel more like summer, which it is technically, Jill.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Still summer, Still summer.

Speaker 9 (11:35):
I keep telling my coworkers that it's still summer until
September twenty second. But yeah, so we want rain. But
the rain can start on Monday of next week.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
Or maybe before the game or whatever, because you get
to turf and it's not nearly as big a deal.
The rain is not as big a deal as the
lightning is. And that's unfortunately what we saw last Friday
night with high school football in the area. But we appreciate,
we appreciate you being here. And what I was saying
about the weather is, the weather's going to be fantastic.
And Mega Mega super blast fireworks on Saturday night. You

(12:03):
can blow them all out exactly.

Speaker 9 (12:05):
It's going to be a lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
I'm excited.

Speaker 9 (12:07):
The end of the season is always bittersweet for us,
where we've put in all this work and we want
our fans to make sure that they feel appreciated that
they had a good time this season.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
All right, Jill, It's always a pleasure to talk to you,
and again the season of fish wins. The last game
of the season, the.

Speaker 9 (12:20):
Last game for at home is this Sunday, but then
the Boys go on the road to high Point. So
if you can't come this weekend and you want to
go watch the Boys playing High Point, you can make
that drive. I'll be making that drive.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
It's not far, it's not far. Just drove a little
less than four hours drove by there, not long ago.
So and we also want to remind you that we
do have Selangol law Light the Night coming up to
the ballpark. Starts on November twenty first, and again, if
you come out to the game on Friday night, you're
going to get a free ticket to get into the
Selango law Light the Night. You can go online and
get your tickets now for that. We would highly encourage

(12:51):
that because it's going to be much bigger, much It
was great last year and the year before, but it's
going to be huge this year. And before you know it,
we're going to be silent night and jingle belling all
over the place over there. So we'll see you there
and we'll talk to you several times. So it's been
a pleasure having you on this season.

Speaker 9 (13:06):
Though, absolutely, Thank you, Dave.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
It's been fun.

Speaker 6 (13:08):
You're sticking around, aren't you anywhere? Okay? Making sure, Okay,

Seasons are changing, the kids are back in school, and
cooler weather is on the way. But one thing that
always remains consistent is the car buying experience at Walker
Chevrolet in Nitro. You see, that's because Gene and Ryan
built their business the old fashioned way by making friends.
There are no gimmicker games at Walker, just honest, fair deals,
and the process at Walker is remarkably simple. They help

(14:06):
you find a vehicle that you love and a deal
that makes you smile, and don't forget Walker is still
buying cars too. Now All makes and models are welcome,
and they'll give you a top dollar for it, even
if you plan to buy somewhere else.

Speaker 6 (14:19):
But why would you?

Speaker 3 (14:20):
You know?

Speaker 12 (14:20):
It's good to know that in a world full of
constant change, there are some things that remain consistent and
that some car dealers still believe in treating you like
a friend with a smile and a HANDSHAKEE head to
Walker Chevrolet and Nitro in the shadow of the Interstate Bridge,
just off the Nitro exit of I sixty four. Walker

But Durbin's plan is less competition and less security, and
that means more risk for your credit and your identity too.

are taking ideas for theme nights next season, they'd love
to have a fifties and sixties night. On the way
out the door, I mentioned that to Jill and she said,
I love that idea, so dexter look for it to

(15:54):
happen hopefully next season. But Dave Allen showing five eighty
live has brought you a part by the all New
Generations for the hurricane visit Generations Ford dot com. West
Side Neighborhood Association. Our good friends Naomi and Samantha are here.
How you doing, girls, We're doing great.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Tell me everybody else is having a good morning.

Speaker 11 (16:09):
So how much to Samantha doing a Yeah, it's Tuesday,
I'm here.

Speaker 6 (16:12):
It's a beautiful day. Yeah, beautiful day in the neighborhood.
It's going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
For what you guys, A guy going on with the
first of all, for people you've been on the show
several times for people that don't know. Explain the organization
to us, either one of you.

Speaker 15 (16:24):
So, the West Side Neighborhood Association has been around since
nineteen eighty six, and our whole mission is to do
beautification and clean up projects along the west Side and
empower neighbors.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
So basically just neighbors getting together with neighbors.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Samantha, Yeah, what she said, Yeah, exactly, exactly, just that,
and yeah, we we like to make our community as
as good as we can, and we do that through
cleanups and making it, you know, just a friendly place
to live in.

Speaker 6 (16:50):
Now, the last time I had you on, I think
you were talking about your most recent cleanup.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Is that?

Speaker 6 (16:54):
Is that why we had?

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Ye?

Speaker 6 (16:55):
How did that go? We just want to kind of good.

Speaker 15 (16:57):
Yeah, we think we had over fifty people show up
for that at one and we cleaned up one of
the core places of the west Side and like, yeah, yeah, people,
We feed people when they come up to cleanups.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
We have a good time, We play music, we take photos.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
It's a good time, always a good time, always a
good time on the west Side, the best side, right, Yeah,
all right, So what do you got going on? Now?
So when I ask now. And when I say, what
are you going on now? And she laughs, I'm like,
all right, so what's up?

Speaker 15 (17:29):
We have this wonderful event. Like I said, we do cleanups,
and so we were looking at how can we enhance
the cleanup, how can we turn it upside down on
its head, and so we kind of came up with
Magic on Magic Island. It's a date night cleanup event.

Speaker 11 (17:46):
So whether you're single looking to mingle, or if you
just want to make some friends, it's a great way
to find people that also care about the community.

Speaker 6 (17:55):
Okay, And it's when and where.

Speaker 15 (17:57):
It is Saturday, starting at four thirty, and it is
at Magic Island. You will be treated to a wonderful
gourmet picnic.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Because it's thirty dollars.

Speaker 15 (18:10):
We'll have a magician roaming around after we do the cleanup,
and you'll probably come away with a balloon animal.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
And if you want your.

Speaker 15 (18:18):
Tarot cards read, we will have a lovely psychic on
hand for you to do that, plus some fun other
little activities for get to know each other.

Speaker 6 (18:28):
I love this because this is just something that you guys,
if you've I mean, you've never done anything like this before.
I'm going to take I don't know, I anybody's ever
done anything those part. So I got to ask, where
did the idea come from? Whose idea, Samantha, whose ideaail Me?

Speaker 4 (18:40):
Who's I think it's both of us. We were just
kind of I.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
Mean, you're packing a lot into this timeframe because you
got tarot cards. You threw out the if you're single
and want a mingle kind of thing, so you got
a love connection thing going on over there. So I know,
I just that's show's been off there for forty years.
But I'm all so so so so, so let's let's
I mean, this is kind of an interesting concept.

Speaker 16 (19:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (19:05):
So, I mean, so the single versus friendship thing. You know,
we've kind of looked at other dating events where they
use the stop light method, where they have you know, red, yellow,
and green armbands, so we kind of took it to
when you come in to do the cleanup, we give
you a different color trash bag depending on what you're
looking for. So if you're looking for love, you go

(19:26):
find the other people that have pink trash.

Speaker 6 (19:28):
Bags, Okay, can you go talk to them?

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (19:30):
Or if you just want to be friends blue blue,
And then if you just want to like pick up
garbage and you're just here. I'm just here for the mission.
You get a black cash back.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
Girls, I'm gonna tell you, I am resisting the temptation
when you say picking up garbage to talk about it. Now,
I'm not not even going to go there. It's like
a it's like a country song going through my head.
I'm not even I'm not even going. But it does
sound like it'd be a unique band. It really does.

Speaker 15 (19:55):
Yeah, And what it does is it breaks down the barriers,
right like instead of just every thing our interactions being online,
you're there. You're meeting people that care about the community,
that care about in the environment.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
Or that's what the bottom line is.

Speaker 15 (20:07):
Yeah, you have that already taken away, so you have
something to talk about, right And like we're gonna have
a silly little scavenger hunt. So while you're looking for
litter to pick up, you know, you got to be
looking for something maybe that's pink or something that's heart shaped,
and okay, what other fun things we come up?

Speaker 6 (20:23):
And again, it just brings no matter you know, how
much fun you have or whatever, it's all about. It's
all about the organization and it's all about bringing attention
and it's and I think it's very interesting that, uh, Samantha,
you said that about the about the friendship aspect of it,
because we live even in West Virginia, which is probably
the friendly Are you both note native West Virginias? Are

(20:45):
you both from here.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
Or been here long enough? I don't know how many
years you have to be here?

Speaker 2 (20:48):
Okay?

Speaker 11 (20:48):
And I moved here because because the people are so friendly.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Okay, Yeah, Well my point is is West Virginia is
always known as the friendly state, where the kind of
place that you know, you see somebody that's you know,
has a flat tire, you stop to help them, you know,
you wave it to people that you don't know walking
in your neighborhood or whatever. And maybe because of social
online activities and things like that, maybe we're a little
bit more disconnected than what we used to be, even

(21:12):
in West Virginia. But I think it's time to get
that back again. And we've even seen it, you know,
if you're from a larger city, you know, I got
I mean, one of my best friends lives in DC
and he tells me, he said, I've lived here for
ten years. I have no idea the names of my
neighbors at all, none, because people just don't do that
as often. It's not that way in West Virginia, but

(21:33):
it could get that way because of again, everybody's got
a phone in their hand and so on and so forth,
and sometimes we don't get to know our neighbors. It's
a great way to get to know the people around you.

Speaker 11 (21:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (21:43):
Yeah, and especially as you get older too, it gets
a little bit more difficult to make friends, right, And
so you know, this is another fun aspect of that,
because then you might see this person around town, you
might run into them at another event, and then you
kind of like already.

Speaker 6 (21:56):
Kind of watching after each other too. And now I
don't mean that necessarily that bad stuff's going to have happened,
But if you haven't heard from a neighbor in a
day or two, you might pick up the phone or
go knock on the door, say hey, you haven't seen
you out. You know, you're normally out in your yard
working on your flowers. Are you making sure everything's okay?
Kind of a thing, kind of getting that whole West
Virginia vibe.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Yeah, for sure, for sure.

Speaker 15 (22:13):
I mean, my neighbor brings my trash can in for me,
time because I forget to get it.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
Do you forget to put it out? Or do you
forget to.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Up on top?

Speaker 4 (22:22):
And then I'm like, let's go inside.

Speaker 15 (22:24):
And then like three hours have gone by and I
hear ed like bringing it down.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
Yeah, well that's it's good. It's that's kind of that's
kind of what we what we do. All right, let's
go back to the tarot card. Yes, this is something
I know, I know absolutely nothing about. So whose idea
was that? Which which one of you? I'm gonna go
ahead and guess that this was Do you guess, Samantham?

Speaker 11 (22:44):
Okay, well, okay, maybe, but it's new a psychic.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
All right, go ahead.

Speaker 15 (22:53):
So I knew this girl from around town. In true
West Virginia fashion, we thought we were related for a
hot minute, and we turned out not to be.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
So we call each other cause.

Speaker 6 (23:04):
You don't want to hear at the day. You don't
want to hear that you know that we're how close
cousins are we? But anyway, go ahead.

Speaker 15 (23:13):
Yeah, we just thought it would be a fun little
activity to do. And Allison of Plutos and Pentacles, We'll
just do a quick little reading for singles or couples.
And that's an extra charge. But yeah, she's she's there
and she's great and she can she's kind of funny.

Speaker 6 (23:28):
Too, okay, And that's a big part of it too.
I mean, these things like this are about having fun.
It sounds like your event is fun. And as I
was talking to Jill from The Dirty Birds earlier, the
weather is going to be, you know, fantastic. I mean,
it's going to be really good because we you know,
last last week we struggled a little bit with the weather.
But we need the rain. I mean, I get that
as well. But the weather is going to be great,

(23:49):
to be a great night. And it's still as Jill
pointed out, it is still officially summer, and it will
be till September twenty second day before my birthday. I
just knowlew that out there, but I will say that,
you know, the the nights are getting longer, They're going
to be pretty soon and daylight's going to be disappearing.
And maybe by the time you know this this date
in January rolls around, when we had three or four

(24:09):
inches of snow out on the ground, you're gonna wish
that you had got out and taken taking part in
these activities because you're starting to wind down.

Speaker 11 (24:15):
Yeah, it's almost it's what the kids call cuffing season.
So you better find someone to snuggle up with before
it gets cold.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
Say what, Ryan, Ryan? Can you help me with this? Ryan?
Now he doesn't have any idea either a cuffing season?
Am I going to get fired for saying them on
you like that? Is that like a term that it
is just funcause I don't need to know their HR violation.
I don't need to actually coming out here.

Speaker 15 (24:40):
Again, you're just looking for winter snuggles. I got ya,
I got you, I got you, all right, And maybe
someone is shovels.

Speaker 6 (24:46):
Somebody's show that now you're getting Yeah, yeah, you're you're
you're attractive at everything. But I'm really more interested in
what you can do for me on shoveling the snow
or whatever.

Speaker 11 (24:56):

Daniel Woods with a story posted this morning over at
the website wv metronews dot com. Brock Williams could be
spending life behind behind bars. This, of course, is the

(35:33):
tobacco shop murder in North Charleston from last year. Yesterday,
in the courtroom of Judge Mary Claire Acres, a jury
found the fifteen year old kid and I mean, let's
face it, that's that's that's what he that's what he is.
He's a kid and his accomplice was a kid not
being treated like kids because well they did adult like

(35:56):
things and they're gonna have to pay for it now.
But in Judge Acres courtroom yesyesterday, the fifteen year old
Barack Williams guilty of felony murder in connection with the
robbery that killed nineteen year old Caden Martin at that
vape shop on the north side of Charleston back in
twenty twenty four. Williams, of course, as I mentioned, tried

(36:19):
as an adult. The automatic sentence is life in prison
with the possibility of parole in fifteen years. Now. Williams,
they say, apparently was serving as some sort of a
lookout during the robbery. And I wasn't in the courtroom.

(36:39):
I followed the case just like you did. But Daniel
Woods was and we had him on Metro News midday
last week and he talked about that. You know, the
lawyers in the case were trying to point out that
well it was he a mere lookout, as William's attorneys claimed,
and didn't know what was going on. But there's several
points in the video that you see him opening up
the door and looking inside. And I guess jury, and

(37:00):
I'm not trying to get into the mind of the
jury here, but I guess they figured, well, if he
if he opened up the door and kept looking inside,
he was more than than than just to look at it.
I don't know. But anyway, now, the other kid, the
Williams Kid, John Williams Hampton, held the clerk at gunpoint
to steal vapes and money from the shop. Williams Hampton

(37:22):
was found guilty earlier and sentenced to life with the
possibility of parole. And I said this before, I said
it when it first happened. You know when I mean
when this, when this case first happened, I had I
had Kenaw County Prosecutor Deb Rusnick on the show. Then,

(37:44):
by the way, programming note, she will be on talk
line with the Wilson Meadows coming up today. Regardless of
how you feel about this particular story, three young lives
were taken, one for ever because he was killed the clerk,

(38:04):
but the other two, who were mid teens, tried as adults.
Their lives are effectively over to now again. They were
both sentenced to life. They're eligible for parole, but I mean,
in effect, their lives are over. And it's a sad,
sad case all around. And you just you're scratching your
head and saying, you know, for what I mean two

(38:29):
and I don't know. And I'm not gonna get into,
you know, amateur psychologists here and get into what happened,
you know, in their family situations. That's not for me
to decide or you or anybody else. That was all
discussed in court and so on and so forth, I guess,
but just wonder, I mean, what when when you're a
kid and these are these are these are in effect

(38:52):
under the under the eyes of the law. Even though
they were tried as adults, these two were children, and
they took this other young man who was much older
than they were, took his life and in effect ruined
his family's life, and then ruined their own lives. And

(39:13):
for what it was just just senseless and it's tragic.
It's tragic situation all around. Because even if these two do,
if they are granted parole in fifteen years or get
out on good behavior or whatever, I mean, their their
lives are effectively ruined as well. And I'm not saying
that they shouldn't be. I mean, you know, kind of

(39:34):
hardcore when it comes to crime and punishment and things
that people that think I'm a little too liberal. You
don't want my opinion when it comes to crime and punishment.
All right, you'll you'll do you'll, you'll do a quick turnaround,
real quick. But it's it's tragic situation all around. We

Conawa County has two high schools in the top five
of the state. Putnam has won. Take that, pampas Putnam

I live in Putnham County, and I am all things

I want you know, Barber County, and I want all

that Putnam County does have some of the best schools
in the state. The test scores show it. That's why
people want to move there. And there are other counties
around the state that have have great schools as well,

as well. I want to talk about the words in
God we trust. Now, you'll recall that a bill requiring
the words in God we Trust be placed in public schools,
and it was signed by the governor. Whether it was
a ceremony held yesterday at the Capitol, and of course,

(42:02):
as I mentioned earlier, the legislature in town for interims
and so a lot of them were around anyway, but
the governor, Governor Morrissey, held a press event yesterday talking
about the whole thing. Now, the bill's sponsor was Republican
Mike Aisinger out of Wood County, and he and others

(42:23):
were around yesterday when the signs were shown to the
public put on display. Now, taxpayers aren't on the hook
for the signs. By the way. The groups were called
First Liberty Institute and Patriot Mobile, And I don't know
anything about those organizations, but they paid for around twenty

(42:47):
five hundred signs that are going to be donated to
the States with the words in God we trust, accompanied
by the US flaglac representation of the flag, and that
will be in all schools, elementary, secondary, and higher education institutions. Now,
the law also extends to charter schools. Now, I'm going

(43:10):
to give you a quote from Governor Morrison. And by
the way, Jeff Jenkins has a full story written about
this this morning at wv metronews dot com. This is
a direct quote from Governor Morrisey about the story from yesterday.
A true Actually, no, let me back up. This quote
is actually from the bill signing, not yesterday. I'm sorry
it was from the bill signing, but in regardless, it's

(43:31):
a quote from the governor. A true and accurate retelling
of civics and American life and history is going to
be set up for our students to become engaged in
very knowledgeable members of our society. End quote. Now, again,
that's what the governor said when he signed a bill
into law in April. Senate President Randy Smith, Republican from

(43:56):
Preston County, said quote, schools will be better place when
God is included. And you know, he continued on, society
started going downhill when we took God out of our schools,
and I think we had the statistics to show that

(44:17):
end quote. We have not seen that statistic yet, I would.
I mean, there's you know, there's been problems in our
public schools for a long time. And I don't know
whether the two go with each other.

Speaker 16 (44:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (44:31):
I don't know that God was ever taken out of schools,
to be honest with you. But a former state senator
from Arkansas who's all about this stuff, was there as well,
and he said lawmakers around the country are doing similar things.
Quote from him, and I found this interesting. And again
you can read all this as part of Jeff's story
wv metronews dot com. This is a quote. We just
had this horrible situation in Minnesota the other day where

(44:55):
two students were shot and killed, and the lawmakers there
were touched and say, we need to resurrect those founding
principles that are founding fathers gave to us. End quote.
Now we can go I do a deeper dive on
that what our founding fathers really meant. But Okay, when

(45:19):
I read that quote, I thought, Okay, the students in
that horrific shooting in Minnesota, the shooting took place while
students were actually praying. I mean, you can't get much
more in God we Trust than that. So I'm just

H let me let me just say this before I
get to the text. Here's where well, no, no, no,

(48:56):
I said no, no, back up because I said I
was more interested in what you have to say. So
I am going to leave it up to you, and
if I have time tomorrow or whatever, I'll get into
my thoughts. It's all about It's all about you, all right,
Tex says in God we trust, perhaps not. There's no
one who has more broken promises than God. By the way,
if you're listening, I didn't say that, the texture didn't,

(49:18):
text says. Patriot and Mobile is a cellular company that
markets to conservatives under the premise of not paying for
liberal phone service companies, but they use the towers from
the liberal companies and Patriot Mobiles surely pays to use
the towers, So those dupe conservatives are technically paying for
liberal companies, says a Texter. This is the people one
of the groups that paid for the signs we're talking about.

(49:40):
Text says this round of in God we trust. It's
just like the first round of it. It's a reaction
of scared conservatives. What are they scared of? The first
round of it was communism? This round LGBT, pocs, Muslims,
brown skin, immigrants, electric cars, solar panels, vaccines, people smarter
than them, education, It's really an undending list of fears.
As a texture tex says Dave. Have you seen the

(50:01):
chaos that just happened into Paul? Now?

Speaker 2 (50:03):
I didn't.

Speaker 6 (50:03):
It wasn't my day to watching Nepaul. Their communist government
officials are being hunted down, chased, stripped, and beaten in
broad daylight. Anti commy protesters are setting fire to the
homes of leaders and even torching the Parliament building. Their
gend z citizens were simply arranging peaceful protests against corruption,
but then the government banned all social media, basically shutting
down the Internet. Nineteen kids were killed the first day

(50:25):
of protests. After that, all hill broke loose against government officials.
There the people had enough, all right, Texas, Dave, you
were talking about the team thugs who killed the store worker.
Look at it this way. Thirteen percent of smoke alarms
cause eighty percent of the beeps. There's your answer, tex
says Dave. Great to see public schools in West Virginian

(50:48):
displaying in God, we trust science, finally acknowledging what is
important in life common sense. All right, I guess, and look,
I am not opposed to the science at all. Here's
where I am on this, Okay, And now I've read
through all the text, I'll tell you where I am
on it. I am not opposed to them at all. However,
I don't know what good they actually do because their
words on a sign. And as a kid that went

(51:10):
to school of the nineteen seventies, and we did the
and I'm as patriotic as the next person, don't get
me wrong, but we did the Pledge of allegiance. We
did the Lord's Prayer every morning, we prayed before lunch.
You know, the whole God is great, God's good. And
we thinking for a food, buy a sence. We show
we've had now to give us lord of data bread
a man. That's about how fast we went through it
because we were more interested in getting to the blowney
sandwich or I didn't eat in the cafeteria, so I

(51:31):
don't know what they had there. So I don't know
that putting up a sign with words on it is going.
I don't know that a school shooter or anybody that's
going to do bad is going to walk in and go,
oh God, we trust. Yeah, I can't do that here,
kind of like gun free zones in cities. Not opposed
to it. I just think I just think it's a
waste of time. That's detches me. I think your time

(51:51):
could be spent in other ways. But hey, private company's
paying for it. Legislature passed it. You do you? TJ.
Meadows coming up with talk where are you on this
sign thing? Yeah, I don't have a problem with it.

Speaker 10 (52:02):
I'm much more concerned about whether or not someone sharing
the Gospel with a child, though, than a sign being
Then the.

Speaker 6 (52:07):
Sign does absolutely sign does what's what's what's the book
say about words without deeds? It does nothing? Yeah, it doesn't,
absolutely nothing but make you feel good about yourself? Are
you all right? We got on the Shadow. We saw
it for that, all right.

Speaker 10 (52:19):
