the show.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Good morning, sir. Hope you're doing well today.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I am, and I hope you are as well. I
want to start with and we are going to talk
about some positive things, because I think right now we
probably need a little positivity, and we'll get that a
little bit later on. But you saw, like everybody else yesterday,
Mayor the sad news out of Utah yesterday, a tragedy.
No matter what your political persuasion or at least in
(03:00):
my opinion, it should be your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Well, I'm actually real quick. I'm going to pivot back
to nine eleven and talk about that for a moment,
and I want to compare something. You know, you know,
twenty four years ago, you know, the militant Alamic terrorist group,
you know, let Bosam b in Lauden the attacked attacked
us and nearly three thousand people died in the nine
eleven attacks, and and you know, everybody said, hey, it's
(03:27):
a it's a new type of war that we're that
we're fighting. It's it's a new type of war. And
America was shaken on that day twenty four years ago,
absolutely shaken. And then what happened yesterday, and and even
with it all the other stuff, it's been happening to
get a twenty three year old Ukrainian that was stabbed
to death three times, and in Charlotte just recently, and
(03:50):
everybody just sit and watched and didn't help her. And
then Charlie was assassinated yesterday. And I mean, this is
this is a new I hate to say, it's like
a new type of war. America is going to be
forever changed by this. By what happened yesterday, We're shaken again,
you know, like we were twenty four years ago. We
were absolutely shaken to the bone now. And it just
(04:13):
goes through me that someone, no matter what side you
were on, if you like Charlie Kirker or didn't like
his politics, that doesn't matter. He was simply having a
discussion out of college. And even folks that didn't like
what he said, a lot, most of the folks I've
talked to, they still respected Charlie kirk because he was
a master at at just talking to especially college kids
(04:38):
and debates. And he was just doing what is just
talking and he got murdered by talking. That's absolutely horrendous
and I hate that. And it comes twenty four years
after the the nine eleven attacks. I'll never forget people
saying it's a new type of war. Now we're it's again.
(04:58):
America's shaken, as you can tell, shake him well.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
And I'll say this, Mayor, and you could agree or disagree.
I am a lot more concerned about the war that
America is having on other Americans than I am on
anything overseas.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Correct. And when I said it's a new type of war,
it's within us. It's within the United States, within our boundaries.
And I hate that. I mean, again, no matter your politics,
this man was simply it was free speech and having
a debate. And even people that don't like him and
(05:37):
didn't like him, they debated him back and forth, and
some of them I watch him a lot, some of
them that absolutely on the other side, far left, would say,
they would smile afterwards and say can I still get
one of your hats? Or can I get something? So
they didn't hate him. They didn't agree with him. They
absolutely did not agree with him, but they didn't hate
him and want him dead.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
So as you know through me, yeah, I know, I
know America devastated.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
I'm devastated.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
I know, Mayor, and you and I had set this
interview up a couple of days ago, following your appearance
on Metro News Midday, and we were texting back and
forth this morning about whether you wanted to continue with it,
and I appreciate you continue with I want to pivot
now to nine and to nine to eleven. You talked about,
you know, where we were as America, and listeners have
heard me say this over and over again. Uh, and
(06:27):
we remember nine to eleven, Mayor Edwards. Uh, But I
but I remember nine to twelve.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
Do you remember nine well?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Do you remember nine twelve?
Speaker 5 (06:36):
Well? There were so many United States flags American flags everywhere.
People loved everyone. I don't care which side of the eye,
which which where your politics were. We all came together,
we all hugged each other, we loved each other, and
what a great I mean, you hate to say that
was a that was wonderful on that day and the
(06:57):
and the weeks after, because we were we were Americans,
and we were one, and we have went so far
past that that it's unfathomable to me how we got
to where we're at today.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You're exactly right. We're talking to Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards.
The Dave Island Show on five. Adie Live has brought
to you parted by Live Healthy West Virginia presented by
WVU Medicine, a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles than to be
on the State. Jack have alatest episodes of wv Metro
News Dot common of the podcast menu. Let's transition a
little bit. I mentioned earlier that I had you on
Metro News Midday. You are a mayor this week on
(07:31):
Mayor Monday. We feature a different mayor on the show
during the two o'clock hour every day, and I appreciate
you taking time out of your schedule, and in that interview,
you dropped something on us earlier about a big event
coming to Hurricane the twenty twenty five Hybricon Games. I
had never heard of it, but not exactly the target
audience here. I looked it up. I googled it. I
(07:54):
you know, your crew there, including Amanda, sent me some
stuff on it. This is a huge event coming to
the Kanav Valley and even even more Huger. I'm gonna
just make my English teachers drive off the road somewhere
about the guy that's coming to her and that's putting
this whole thing together.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
Yes, I will agree with you. It is more Huger,
more a huge church. We'll both drive our English teachers crazy.
So Austin Alexander, now he's an elite athlete, he's a veteran,
he's a huge social media influencer. He gets somewhere between
eighty and one hundred million views per month.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
That's per month mayor per month per.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
Month, that's per month. And he puts on the Hybercon Games.
Last year it was on Catalina Island in California. And
what it is a it's a group of forty eight
extremely elite athletes that they actually have to have to
they can't just sign up and they participate. They have
to go through a lot of stuff before he even
allows them in. They have to qualify and they have
(08:54):
to pay to be in and all that. And we
have been able to convince him to come to Hurricane.
And Matt Stevens was shot by ore Fitness. He's been
a huge, huge part of that and he knows Austin
and it's just wonderful that he's gonna bring the Hybricon
Games to Hurricane. And that's October twenty second through the
(09:15):
twenty fifth. And just to give you an idea of Dave.
I know most of these things you're familiar with because
you do them in the evening. Well like, for instance,
the Grit Day, the log chop, ax throwing, you know,
ride through town. They're gonna be on bikes, they're gonna
be on Miexed Mountain trails, They're they're gonna be I'm
(09:36):
trying to see what else. So I'm here on my list.
Here there's gonna be like a Survivor day, you know,
where they all day long they have to survive. They
have to build fires, they have to knife an ax throw,
boathon shooting. I mean, there's there's all these extreme events
where they have to lift, all these heavy weights, all
this stuff that you and I don't do.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Day I'll say that, but I watched it on TV.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Ones Yes to me too. It's way more than what
I'm just saying here. There's so many things that he
has not announced, and he won't announce until they get here. Yeah,
but it's extreme, extreme elite athletes, and I don't see
how they do it.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
And the following that this guy and I did a
little deep dive, you know, with the information that Amanda
in your office sent me, I mean again, we're talking
about somebody who has followers of eighty to one hundred
million people that follow this guy and follow these sports.
And look, I'm a sports fanatic. You know that about me,
mayor baseball, football, I love it all. This is a
(10:36):
whole different level of what these people are doing.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
It's a whole different level. And this is an international competition.
We know right now there's one from France, two from
the UK, and one from Mexico that will be participating,
along with forty some other elites that have made the
cut to get in. And here's how popular he is.
And I knew he was popular, and he had he
came a couple of weeks ago for Rally in the Valley,
(10:59):
which was another lead athlete event we have in Hurricane
in Putnam County, and we were at the we were
at the way Pull at the Valley Park and there
were three lifeguards working that day because all these elite
athletes were in the water and you know, we had
to have lifeguards on duty. So afterwards, I brought the
three lifeguards. These are three high school kids, two from
Hurricane one Winnfield. I said, hey, would you all like
(11:19):
to meet? You all know who that guy is. And
they're like, oh, we follow him, we love him. That's
Austin Alexander. I mean all three of these two boys
and one girl, they all following that all Austin. And
I've I've spoken to a lot of high school students
since then, since a couple of weeks ago. Nearly everybody
I know follows this guy.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Hmm.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
It's it's amazing. And and the amount of people that
follow this sort of thing that are going to come
into Hurricane, and not just Hurricane but the surrounding area
is because I mean, Hurricane's not going to be able
to hold all this thing as far as the people
that are going to come in for this. So you're
going to see it's going to help out Barbersville, and
it's going to help out Saint Albans in South Charleston
and all these other communities.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
You know, we you know, Meek's Mountain Trails, which started
in twenty eighteen has really been the catalyst for all this.
My friend Brandon Dorner planned one little tiny season, started
digging trails in twenty eighteen with these two little kids.
And now look where we're at today. And you know
Brandon and the story behind that, that's a story for
a different day. But he planned one little seed. We have,
(12:23):
you know, thirty six miles of hand dug trails, forty
thousand man hours and all these events continue to be
held here in Hurak, and it's the gym of Hreaken
for sure. And that's why they want to be here
is really for two reasons. We have the facilities and
we're welcoming, and that's what we keep hearing from everybody.
(12:44):
We are so welcoming compared to other places they go.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Now, what's the dates of this again, ma'am?
Speaker 5 (12:48):
The dates are October the twenty second through the twenty fifth,
and the twenty fifth is going to be the field
spectator day. That's the day where we expect a lot
of spectators.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
And of course we'll be talking about it between now
and then. Have you on. Would love to have mister
Alexander on the show as well, if you can make
that happen. You know, people you can swing this. I
love to have him on the show as well.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
I've already talked to him and he said he's willing
to come on your show whenever you'd like.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Great sounds good. Hey, real quick before we let you go,
I do want to talk about some of the development
in Hurricane. The announcement was made a couple of weeks ago,
but this major housing development going on right there in
the heart of hurricane. What can you tell us about that?
I know I talked to Morgantini from the development Authority
and they're planning an event. I'll have her on to
talk about a little bit more, which, you know, because
(13:33):
somebody's got to build these things, somebody's got to put
them in and they're having an event for contractors and
things of that, and as we get closer, I'll talk
more about that. But what can you can you give
us a quick one minute or so update about what's
going on there.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
Absolutely main street of Hurricane, there's a seventy acre pars
or property that was sold by the family that had
it for one hundred years or whatever, sold to a
gentleman and he sold it to a developer and four
hundred plus US probably four twenty four forty homes will
be built and that's gonna start very soon. Infrastructure will start, uh,
(14:07):
you know, roads, underground utilities, all that type of stuff
will start very very soon, and we are we are
looking forward to it. And it's gonna it's not gonna
be an overnight build four hundred houses. It'll take a
few years to build all that. But local contractors, local subs,
they're gonna do most of the work. And that's what
(14:27):
I like in Morgan Tenny. I'm on the Development thirty board.
She's put together a wonderful and you can talk about
that later, but a group where people can come there
signing up. We want all local subs to be able
to do all the work. That's that's the goal, and
that's wonderful. And then and then there's also another ninety
(14:49):
five homes being built not too far away from there
as well. That's going to happen soon. And then the
three or four a Valley Point, which Alan Dall's building,
that's almost that's over halfway completed, and there's waiting lists.
We need homes so bad, and I'll tell you real quick,
a lot of these homes, you know, there's gonna be
(15:10):
new young people move in here. There's gonna be people
move out of their current homes and move over there.
But there's also gonna be a lot of older folks
that maybe live in a two story home. I've talked
to so many of those that want out of those
homes and go into like a patio bedroom home and
it will free up there five thousand square at home
for other younger families. So it's all going to work
(15:33):
out wonderful. And with the closing interchange opening up soon
that that's going to alleviate a lot of the traffic
that these new homes will bring. So it should work
hand in hand. There's still a lot of work to do.
We work with the doh and all those folks, but
we just need to bring it all together. And it's
happening now, and I'll look so forward to the growth
that's happening. There's so much more and that we can
(15:54):
do that another day.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
All right, Mayor, I appreciate it as always the talk soon,
thanks a lot, Thank you, my friend well Mayor Scott

Speaker 10 (19:00):
Good morning, Thanks for having me, Dave.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Thanks for being a first You know, we'll start off
with what some serious stuff here, just like I did
with Mayor Edwards, the senseless death yesterday of a very
important young man that regardless of his politics, no one
can deny the impact that Charlie Kirk had a lot
of had a lot of young people in America.
Speaker 10 (19:17):
Yeah, let me echo the comments of earlier from the
mayor that first off, this is an absolute tragedy. This
is a man, Charlie Kirk, who is a husband, a father,
and a Christian and a member of his community, who
all he wanted to do was start discussion, have people
(19:39):
talk about the issues that's going on in America, in
our country, in our states, in our communities, and just
understand that by conversation we can move forward together. This
isn't a man that was elected. This isn't a man
who cast a vote or oversaw government. This is an
(20:00):
individual who only wanted to express his freedom of speech
and share his ideas and opinions and listen to other people.
And this man was assassinated because of his voice, because
of his message, and that right there is an absolute tragedy.
(20:20):
In America politics.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
I one hundred percent agree. And as we speak the
we understand that a weapon has now been recovered. That's
according they just had a briefing for the FBI, and
you saw that a weapon has been recovered, but that's
the shooter remains large, and you know, it's we don't
know anything about the shooter. And I'm gonna get I'm
gonna do a little commentary myself and I had a
little bit later on how you know in our society,
(20:42):
we're so polarized. Everybody jumps to conclusions. We don't know
anything about this guy. We don't know the somebody on
the left did it. We don't know that somebody on
the right did it. We just simply we just simply
don't know. I will say this though, I am happy
with anyone, regardless of their political party, that can get people,
get young people involved in uh and want to engage.
(21:03):
All Right, A quick word from you about about Patriot
Days is now known nine to eleven.
Speaker 10 (21:07):
Yeah, uh, you know, we always say uh, never forget. Well,
I think we also need to add in there and
always educate, you know, Dave, before we started the show,
you and I were talking there are college students who
weren't even born. Yeah, when nine to eleven that tragedy.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
I've never lived in a in a pre nine to
eleven war with T. S A and with all these
other all these changes that that that have been made
be calls with nine to eleven.
Speaker 10 (21:30):
You know, uh, And I think that this is something
that we need to uh make sure that we don't
let fall by the wayside, and we continue to educate
and have these conversations uh with our growing children as
they uh mature and and and understand the tragedy of
that day. You know, when you look at nine to eleven,
for me, it's almost like for those kids what they
(21:52):
would see is D Day. And those are in our
history books. Those are conversations that we have about those
tragedies of war. And we need to make sure that
we're continuing to do that with our children and that
we never forget. And when I say we, I mean
generations upon generations of that tragedy of those individuals who
lost their life due to terrorist attack. And so you know,
(22:16):
in the words of Charlie Kirk, let's continue to educate,
Let's continue to talk and have these discussions. Let's not
let violence fear us from talking, because our democracy falls
apart when we stop talking with each other. Whether you're
a Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, whatever it is, we as neighbors,
(22:39):
as humans need to continue to have the conversations, and
we need to do it in a respectful manner for
both parties agree.
Speaker 4 (22:47):

Let's move on here. You know, we've seems like here
lately Lands Over the last couple of months, we keep
getting negative news about the economy in West Virginia. But
you got some good news about the economy in here
in Kanawha County, and it has to do with business growth.
(23:30):
And you shared me yesterday some statistics from the Secretary
of State's Office.
Speaker 10 (23:34):
Yeah, so, the Secretary of State's Office, Chris Warner, has
just released a new results for the month of August
showing that Kanall County was the largest leading county in
the state in new business registration. That was one hundred
and thirty six new businesses were filed through the Secretary
of State's Office out of Kanall County. And that's not
(23:57):
just Charleston, that's throughout the entire Kennall County. You know,
that's important we have these numbers because it shows the
growth of Kannall County. You know, this is actually larger
numbers than we're even seeing in the Eastern Panhandle.
Speaker 6 (24:11):
I think that's a lot.
Speaker 10 (24:12):
To do with the work of our Knall County Commission
with Commissioned President Ben Slango, Commissioner Tenant, and myself, along
with our partners with the City Charleston, Amy Goodwin Mayor,
our Charleston Area Alliance, our Airport, even Hatfill McCoy. You know,
let's look at some of the programs we've been doing
within the last two years. You talk about the dirt
(24:33):
bike trails with McCoy in Tornado, where we have people
driving in from Canada just to participate here in Kennall
County in these trails, bringing their hard earned money to
our mom and pop shops and to our businesses. We
have the big announcement of the Appalachian Outlaw Trails in
Eastern Kennall County, Breeze, the Breeze announcement of bringing in
(24:53):
new direct flights from Las Vegas, New York, Denver Texas.
These are in credible programs that we are implementing here
in the county, and I think that is showing interest
in the business community, whether that's a big manufacturing company
that will have conversations with of why they would want
to move to Kennall County, but also our mom and
(25:14):
pop shops. You know, these one hundred and thirty six registrations, Dave,
These are dreams, somebody's dream of opening up a new restaurant,
opening up a boutique shop, maybe a salon, a barbershop,
whatever it might be. These are people's dreams that they're
able to invest here in this county. We're continuing to
grow and I think a lot of part of that
is our outdoor recreation. I mean the Shawnee Sports complex
(25:37):
is bringing thousands upon thousands of people from this state
and out of state, even sometimes out of country every
single weekend, and that is spurring up business, economic development
and interest in people saying, you know what, I've always
thought about owning a little shop for sports equipment. Maybe
I can do that now. These are the type of
(25:59):
things that we need to continue to do. Low hanging fruit.
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Now.
Speaker 10 (26:02):
Don't get me wrong. We have a long way to
go here in Connell County, but I think we're moving
the needle in the right direction. We're heading on the
right path. It's just that we have to keep moving
forward and progressing, and I think we're going to do
that with these big announcements coming.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
I want to and this is about the outdoors, but
it's not necessarily about the adults. It's about the kids.
And I know you've been a big part of this
with the continuing upgrades of playgrounds and things of that nature.
Now and the big picture of things, when you're talking
about jobs and economic development, that may not seem like
a lot, doesn't seem like they go together, but it
actually does. It actually does because you've got to have
(26:38):
things for the kids, because mommy and daddy are going
to work till eight to five or whatever. You've got
to have something, you know, to entertainment. As I said
on the Midday Show the other day, people don't work
all the time. Some of us feel like we work
all the time, but we don't necessarily work all the time.
You got to have a life outside of work. And
that's where the upgrades. A lot of these playgrounds, shiny
sports complex and that's where a lot of this goes
(26:58):
hand in hand.
Speaker 10 (26:59):
You know, every time we talked to a large company
their administration, one of the things they continue to say
is what is the quality of life in your area?
And the reason that's important to them is because they
know if they're going to have workers in that area,
if people are going to move out of state into
our county to fulfill that workforce, then they're going to
(27:19):
need to be able to sell it to them. This
is where you're going to uproot from where you're currently
at and bring your family. You know, when an individual
has that decision that they want to take another job
out of state, it's not just their decision. It's their spouse,
it's their children, it's their family. They got to have
all these conversations and so we need to make sure
that we have that quality of life, not just for
(27:41):
business economic development, but for the residents that are currently here.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
Now.
Speaker 10 (27:45):
You know, when I was a kid growing up out
of Saint Albans, I didn't have a nice playground to
go to. I didn't have a place that I felt
like I could call home. And this is one of
the things that drive me for this, And so we're
excited that we've been putting on this new incentive of
outdoor recreation for the children, for the families here in
Connall County. We just recently over the summer finished the
(28:06):
brand new playgrounds date of the art over at meadow Wood,
and we're proud to announce that we've done the same
thing at Coonskin. You know, if you haven't been there yet,
you should go. We are not finished yet. We're putting
all the small little details. We're going to be having
the ribbon cutting on Thursday next week the eighteenth, at
five o'clock. We invite everyone to come, but we already
(28:28):
have people coming right now because the playground's finished. We're
just putting up the finished touches with more benches or
trash cans, and so I recently went with my daughters
to show them the brand new playground because we went
to the old one, which was dilapidated. It was rusted,
I mean, it was a safety heizard and somebody was
going to get hurt, and so we brought them to
(28:49):
this new one. And when I got there, I didn't
know how many people were going to be there. Dave,
there's thirty to forty people with their children all across
this county, some from Saint Albans, some from Cisonville, right
in Coonskin, enjoying this beautiful, brand new playground. And the
eyes on these kids lighting up, the laughters filling up
(29:11):
throughout the space, it was heartwarming.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
The putting down of the phones, the absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 10 (29:18):
I didn't see one kid with an iPad. I didn't
see one kid with the phone. I saw kids running around,
playing tag, jumping up and down. And was that something
that was beautiful in my eyes to see in our
community as somebody who grew up here in Kannall County
never had that, and getting to see that, to be
done with the generations before me, including my children, that
(29:39):
was just heartwarming. So we're going to invite everyone to
come on out into our new playground next Thursday the eighteenth,
and just enjoy at five o'clock a ribbon cutting of
community coming together and just being proud of what we have.
That was really my key point. I want everyone to
be proud of what we have here in Kannall County.
(30:00):
He's been putting to work in in the County Commission.
I think people are going to be very excited. They
haven't seen it yet, this brand new playground. And we're
not done yet. We're going to be going to Pioneer
Park over in eastern Kennell County and we're going to
finish up the last playground, brand new, state of the
art for the end of the year, and we're excited.
Later in the fall, we'll be having a ribbon cutting
for that one as well.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
All right, before we let you go, I don't want
to ask you. The announcement was made last week about
the Ascend program. This of course the brainchild of Brad
an Elise Smith of Marshall University and a big ribbon
cutting or not ribbon cutting'm so you got me think
about ribbon cuttings now a big The announcement of that
was made with the County Commission and with Charleston Mary
Alliance when mayor a Goodwin's office, and several others as well.
Speaker 10 (30:43):
Your take on that, You know, we talk about the
ASCEND program, and what I see out of the ASSND program,
which if your viewers don't know, is a program that
will incentivize you to choose to move to West Virginia
if you have a remote working job. And what we
have looked at is how can we get native West
Virginians who unfortunately had to make that choice to move
(31:05):
out of state, to come home. And I think that
those are the conversations that we're having is targeting those
who are West Virginians at heart, who their families are here,
their love is for the mountains and they want to
come home, but financially or family wise, they haven't been
able to make that decision. Giving them that incentive through
the ASSIN program to come here, come home, be with
(31:26):
your family, and for always and forever be a mountaineer.
That's what's important to me with this program, and this
is why everything we're talking about with outdoor recreation playgrounds
quality of life is important because when you have that
conversation with someone and say hey, come home, things have
changed and once they get to see that, and then
(31:47):
they're incentivid to do so that's when you're going to
start seeing West Virginians come home and Dave, that was
the ultimate plan all along for all of us.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
All right, I want to switch gears real quick. I
only to get about a minute or so left in
the segment, but before so, I'm going to have you
take off your county commissioner hat for a moment. Last
time you were here, you made an announcement that you
were going to be seeking the office of state Senate.
You want to talk about how that's going so far.
I know it's early, you'll talk about that a little bit.
You know, it's going really well.
Speaker 10 (32:12):
We're working right now, just getting the initial support and
been talking to voters, not just in Kannall County, and
been going to Ronan County, Jackson County, Putnam County. And
you know what I really have noticed is that my
leadership and skills of getting things done, whether that's outdoor
recreation like new playgrounds, looking at our essential services like
our ambulance authority, our police officers or firefighters, making sure
(32:34):
the funding's there, that leadership has shown and people know
that I mean business when it comes to protecting our
first responders and listening to the voters and the people
in local government because that's where the most can be done.
That's going to be my campaign. I'm going to be
working with local leaders and asking how can the state
(32:54):
help you so we can work together to maximize the
greatest benefit for everyone here in the state of West Virginia.
I'm very proud of the support. Initially, I've been beginning
and we're going to be hitting the ground hard and
here soon. I want to start knocking doors, so you
might be seeing Commissioner Lance Wheeler mcnon County knocking on
your door, just wanting to talk with you.

Going back to Charlie Kirk. As we began the show,
the FBI was was doing a briefing. They do say
that a weapon has been recovered and also there are speculation.
(39:31):
See originally they thought they had taken the shooter into custoding.
Turns out that was not the case. The shooter is
still at large, but they are now The FBI in
Utah is now releasing information saying that they believe the
shooter is a college age person. It doesn't necessarily mean
they were a student at that particular college, a college
age person, meaning you know, eighteen twenty three, twenty four.
(39:54):
That's all they are saying at this time, which is,
you know, completely understandable. I got a couple of texts
I want to knock out here, and I will say, well,
I'm gonna I tell you what. I'm gonna read the
text and I'm gonna give you some of my own thoughts.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
How's that?
Speaker 4 (40:10):
Texas, No one knows the motivation of the gunman. All
the speculation is to drum up political support and anger.
For all we know the shooter was a disgruntled Charlie
Kirk fan or a disgruntled Trump lover who let TDS
get the best of them. You're seeing who was sowing
the political anger division with speculation. Remember when the Minnesota
lawmaker and her family were assassinated by a right wing extremist.
(40:33):
I remember silence from the Republicans and from Trump. Texas
conservatives are shaken to the bone because he was one
of theirs. The Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota not shaken. Going
back to the playground situation, we talked to Commissioner Lance
Wheeler about that a little bit later on Texas just

has done for our park. It's amazing. They thanks for
all your help. So I hope the commissioner Wheeler is

is no less shocking than the Charlie Kirk assassination, although
I think the differences in reaction are valid. The victim

Both cases are tragic for humanity. Tech says Dave. Charlie

as of now, the shooter remains at large. They believe
it was a college age person. That's all the Center's point,
and a weapon was discovered. We obviously know, and I'm

that knew what they were doing because it was done
for one hundred two hundred yards away and the shop
was perfect. So this is not some you know, kid

what they were doing. President Trump has referenced earlier said
that the radical left rhetoric led to Kirk's death and
called him a martyr and the truth for truth and freedom.
(49:45):
Vice President Jady Vance on his way to Utah today
thirty one years old. Was Kirk about to turn thirty
two in a couple of weeks. Father, husband, known for
doing debates, not really means spirited debates, at least as
far as I can tell. He did like dialogue and
was in fact talking about gun violence and trans issues
when he was killed. He was the founder and CEO
of Turning Point USA, which is a conservative youth group
(50:06):
active on more than thirty five hundred college campuses across
the country. Also a popular podcaster, and you've heard me
talk about this earlier in the show. The immediate rush
to judgment and to social media media about what caused this.
You know how many it was your feed last night
like mine. The left will stop at nothing. And the
truth is, as of right now, we don't know anything
(50:29):
about the shooter other than what I just told you.
We don't know as political his or her political registration
or affiliation, and quite frankly, in my eyes, none of
it matters. I have no answers none. But when a
similar situation happened at the Catholic school referenced earlier in
Minnesota a couple of weeks ago, it was the same thing.
(50:51):
It was the same rush to judgment by everybody and
that person, if you recall, to check all the boxes
of everything. And last night, at least at one point
I had to turn off social media and look for
you know, cat videos or Andy Griffith rerun or something.
I took a walk and I posted a picture of
a pretty Taze Valley sunset last night. We've got to
(51:12):
just stop with all of this. And I think sometimes
as a society, I think we're doomed. We're so tribal,
we're so dug in, and we're all going we not
so much me, but others are. We got to find
out who this is so we can use it for
ammunition for the other side. That's what a lot of
(51:33):
this goes back to. And a lot of what you
saw on social media last night's people that couldn't give
a damn one way or the other. All they really
care about is aha, can I use this at the
other side. And it's a sad, sad state of affairs.
And I've said it before and the texture was absolutely right.

school shooting.
