is beside me, Lisa, Marry Christmas.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Merry Christmas to everyone out there.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Welcome audience, good to have you in today. We are
getting the parade started right now, and Steve Bishop is
over on Summer Street.

we just happened to have Charleston police Jeeves got Dempsey

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Scott, how are you, buddy, I'm doing great. How are
you guys? I'm doing well.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Now tell me about the motorcycles. Lead the thing off.
Tell me about that unit right now. They're probably very cold,
but you know what, they enjoy it. This is their
time to shine.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
They love to lead the parade as well as the
whole police department.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
We really enjoy this.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Not only do we keep people safe, and we enjoy
Christmas too and enjoy shaking hands.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Is having a good old Christmas time.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Now, you guys have been doing an effort where you've
been gathering toys to make sure that as many kids
as possible, we'll get those that are under privilege.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
Right, yes, absolutely, I'm so proud of my department for
being involved in this toy drive. We get donated toys
by the thousands, and we are so proud to be
able to do that, and just to put a smile
on a kid's face is the best thing that we
could ever do.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Absolutely, and those are all donated by the community, right absolutely.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Yes, our officers go out, they seek the donations. People
come to us by the hundreds and just go to
the store and just drop.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
It right off to us. I got you. How many?
How many units do you have here?

Speaker 3 (02:10):
Chief?

Speaker 4 (02:11):
They just keep on coming. This is all hands on
death today.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Is everybody working overtime tonight for the parade?

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Absolutely, that's what it takes.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Yes now me unfortunately, no, I'm here on just out
of Christmas good will.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I got you, my man.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's good to see you, chief, and appreciate you coming
by and tell all the guys's merry Christmas.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
We will mery Christmas?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Do you get right? Got Dempsey with the Charleston Police
Department and his daughter. It's nice to meet you, by
the way, to meet you all right. So the police
have gone away, the sirens are starting to die down
just a little bit. Astorgatto has rolled up in front
of us. And what of their really nice automobiles.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Wow, I'd like to be driving that right now, Chris.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Okay, So here we come with the Clay Center and
how the Grinch stove Christmas on December nineteenth and twentieth.
Tickets are on sale now, and there's the grit.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Here is the Grinch. He's actually the star of our
commercial for the parade.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Even though he's the Grinch, he's tossing out candy. I
appreciate that his.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Heart's already gram Oh wow, look at this.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
You got a unit from one of the local fire department.
So Charleston Fire Department. Okay, I know a lot of
the fire departments in the valley are part of this event,
but this is the Charleston Fire Department, and I figure
their units will be throughout the uh, throughout the parade.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
I would think. So this is track four sixty one, I.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Believe looks like one of their aerial ladder trucks going
by here, and then several more emergency vehicles in the
in the back there. We mentioned the fact that our
broadcast this evening it includes Steve Bishop, who is over
on Holly Jolly Brawley. Steve, I know that the parade
has not gotten to you yet, but to kind of
set the scene over there, it's it's a packed house

(03:52):
for folks along the side of the road.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Is it like that?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Over there?

Speaker 6 (03:55):
It's anticipation of what's to come, that's.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
For sure, and I love it.

Speaker 7 (04:00):
All the folks are bundled up here. I see a
lot of parents with with like uh wagons of wagons
of children being wheeled by me.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
Right now, and they're all bundled up. And you know
the other thing that I noticed.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
That there's a lot of dogs here tonight, and I'm well,
they're they're with their owners. But but people bring I
didn't know that was really a thing. Bring your dog
to the parade.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Night and decorate him.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, well, what's your Steve?

Speaker 8 (04:26):
Be sure to warn those those parents that have children
and dogs over there that the granch is on the
way and he's not too far away, so they may
want to prepare for that.

Speaker 6 (04:36):
Now.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
I'll tell you what I have.

Speaker 6 (04:38):
I have a dog right next to me that has
clothes on.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Seriously, that's smart.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
The dog has a shirt and pants on.

Speaker 7 (04:46):
This is a greyhound, right, Yeah, it's a greyhound and
it has it seriously, has a pair of pants on
to keep warm.

Speaker 6 (04:54):
And it seems to be all company.

Speaker 7 (04:56):
Yeah, and it's waiting on the parade to get going
over here on Summer Street where I've.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Brought All right, all right, Steve, I don't need to
interrupt you, but we've got the George Washington High School
Marching Band.

halftime several times when we didn't use it on the
hill this year.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
They're really good.

Speaker 3 (06:02):

on this, Steve, what did you need?

Speaker 7 (06:39):
Oh no, I was just gonna say I'm Harper Gardner
and vote for me. But you know you know Harp Well,
Harper's dad was the mayor Charleston years ago.

Speaker 4 (06:50):

Yes, the mayor is is dancing away with the dance troup.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah, Capitol High School's dance street. That's right, Yeah, there

the parade and then she'll be back over.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
To Talkzy.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
She's been practicing or if she just showed up and
did it.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh, I think they've practiced it.

Oh, it looks like I.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Don't even I don't even really know how to describe this.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
It looks like Halloween and like a Cruella movie. I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
They are. They are large, stick like yeah, Ubbet's really
and some folks are walking and operating them at the
same time.

Speaker 8 (07:50):
Now, this looks like snuffle up Agus from Sesame Street
a little bit right, like the kind of the I
don't know, just the eyes and the way it's movie.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
I don't I wish I had a better description for
you than I'm just not sure how to That's.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
I wonder how you got how they selected the people
that got to ride on the train, because they're having
a blast they are. I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
I haven't heard how they got selected. Bit it looks
like the way to do it. We got some candy
givers here.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Hey guys, here comes the Central van lines float and
a couple of years ago they were the winner I
believe of this event.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Oh they were. Okay, yeah, I can see why.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
And it looks like they have decorated the inside of
one of their movie vans. Wow, and that's pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Actually, yeah, I love it.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Like they've got the front of it lit up in uh,
it's like bright lights and a big star on the
on the front and then back in the area where
you would put all your furniture and stuff.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
They've got it all decorated up with a Christmas tree.
Looks like somebody's living room, isn't there.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, they got a Christmas tree and they got like
blood sticks. Sis, you're amazing, and we just got one thread.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
And it doesn't work now I think when they hit
the ground, so unless it just turned it off.

Speaker 8 (09:50):
Yeah, I'm trying to figure it out rightst the count.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Steve, feel free to jump in when the parade gets
to you over there.

never go wrong.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
He's spinning, That's what he's spinning the rector he is.

Speaker 7 (12:18):
I gonna say, I want to correct an error I
made just a moment ago. Harper Gardener is the grandson
of the former mayor of Charleston, not his son. So
found my mistake.

Speaker 6 (12:30):
I had no prid better as soon as I said,

Chris, Well all joking aside, that is something that's extremely
important because it's affected people in my family, and I

I don't know if anyone's family that's not been.

Touched well, and it got all your attention. It got
your attention, guys, and that's what it's all about.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Well, I was, I was trying to be modest.

Speaker 11 (16:29):
Yeah, but there's so many people affected by that and
those that great group is there to help with any
if anyone has a need, Yes.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Let me let me interrupt you, Steve, because Channel thirteen
screw just walked by and Marilyn McCullough is here.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
How are you.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Marly mccallach from Channel thirteen. I can't add anything to that.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Oh, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
She looked gorgeous, Joe. She was earning the full length
for cod All White. She distracted me there. I wasn't
able to I was able to make a couple of
jokes like I don't believe it. Oh well, she had
a message now that flowed.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
I did not see who was on it.

Speaker 12 (17:37):
Steve.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Steve, you tell us that the that the parade has
reached your location, fill.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Us in on what's happening on your side of town.

Speaker 7 (17:44):
Yeah, going by, the Chief of Police just stopped by
and shaking hands with everybody. The I don't know the
motorcycles they were so blinding the lights on them. I
don't know whether they looked like they might be brand
new motorcycles that we have here in the town with
the Charleston Police.

Speaker 6 (17:59):
But it's just lots of sirens and lots of lights.

Speaker 7 (18:02):
And honestly, when I was a kid, that was my
favorite thing in the parade was to see the police
cars and the fire trucks and the ambulance. They just
put all the all the lights and sirens on it. Dude,
Charleston's big dew ladder truck is coming by you right now.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
So we have the cabin creek out systems are going by, Steve.
So they just went by, gave out some candy.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Very nice as Torgado with the Grinch.

Speaker 7 (18:30):
Now, how many grinches will we have in the parade tonight.
That was seemed to be the theme a few years ago.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Well, I know that you will have a hand coming
here in a moment.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
We talked about that.

Speaker 6 (18:40):
Well, I'll be anticipating that.

Speaker 4 (18:44):
Now.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
This is pretty cool we got I think it's the
Polar Express. It is survefro Is put together a Polar
Express and we've got the conductor out and they're actually
making their own snow and it's working.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
There is snow flying everywhere.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
That is awesome.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
That is pretty impressive, guys. Nice work.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
I think they should place in the float contest for sure.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
I'm sure that they will definitely give them a run
for their money.

Speaker 7 (19:09):
They're serve pro.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Those are the guys you call when you've had a problem,
when when things have gone south. That's the people to
call to clean it up for you. The guys that serves.

Speaker 14 (19:19):
Oh, we've got the.

Speaker 8 (19:20):
River City Youth Ballet Ensemble. And this reminds me of
like a kind of a Ebenezer Scrooge kind of.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
That's a period of time.

Speaker 8 (19:32):
Yeah, but the tall hats and the way that the
group is dressed.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Pickering associates rolling by and riding the shotgun is the grene. Yeah,
and they've got some dancers coming by.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Hey, how are you easy?

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, they're all dressed in the period dress up. You're right,
the Ebenezer Scrooch. Yeah, you can't think of what would
be Oh.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I'm not sure it was a minute ago for sure. Yes,
it looks like that.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Man, I would if I did that kind of dancing,
I would break both my ankles in the first five minutes.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
They're very good, and they have heels on no less.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Some of them.

Speaker 8 (20:19):
They look like they're ready for visits from the ghosts
of past, present and future. Yeah, okay, here comes well,
look at this flow is this share.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Looks like are you kidding? I love it so much.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
Now we're getting to hear that George Washington High School
band passed.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yeah, they're awesome.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
Fire them up there, Steve, we'll just little pass you

like shares.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Pretty cool if that's the same share that I know
share Share entered that looked alike contest that D one
hundred had oh back in the nineties at some point,
and uh and won the contest.

chilly out here.

I'm guessing, Oh, that guy's just.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
On the radio.

Speaker 6 (30:05):
He doesn't matter.

that is in the parade. And they just hit us
with a searchlight. They didn't they I am blinded by
the search light. Indeed, they turned it on and lit
us up as they rolled by.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Controls Grinches Everywhere to night.

Speaker 17 (43:53):
Kris seems that way and avoid him.

Speaker 7 (44:01):
So the GW Soccer girls soccer team is passing by.
Right the front of that was the Gnaw County bookmobile,
which the bookmobile looks different than it did when I.

Speaker 6 (44:11):
Was a kid.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
Instead of books, they have iPads.

Speaker 3 (44:17):
I don't know. I want.

Speaker 6 (44:18):
I want to get in there. You know, I didn't
even know.

Speaker 7 (44:20):
Still, I'm being hassled by Brent Sears from Sears Monument.

Speaker 6 (44:28):
The man just won't leave me alone.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
Get over here, Mayor Ammy Goodwin has joined us here, Steve, okay,
take the microphone back front here. It would appear that
the mayor is winded.

Speaker 12 (44:43):
I have no idea what you're talking about. Chris. Well,
let me just go ahead and say, she's so young.

Speaker 18 (44:47):
I thought that when the kids asked me to dance,
I thought, well.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Of course you would.

Speaker 12 (44:53):
I mean, I played basketball through school, played volleyball.

Speaker 18 (44:56):
Hap I hadn't played on the men's bathroom. I surely
can dance. Let me tell dancing is the most difficult.

Speaker 8 (45:02):
Thing I've ever done in my entire lesson, and you
have to do it down the street in freezing cold weather.

Speaker 18 (45:07):
I mean to tell you, but here's the thing. This
is what I absolutely love about our city. This is
what I love about the kids in our city. They
were so spirited. They everything that you saw on us,
including the crown. I'm still hearing it's homemade. They made
it all. They made our costume, they made our head dresses.
They loved it. I loved it, and I don't tell kids.

Speaker 8 (45:29):
No.

Speaker 12 (45:29):
This is not to say, if the kid is listening,
I will do it next year.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
A couple of questions, how long did it take you
to get dolled up for this thing?

Speaker 18 (45:39):
I have never worn fake eyelashes a day in my life,
but I didn't much.

Speaker 12 (45:45):
I don't know what you're talking aboubout.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
Maybe the sparkles.

Speaker 8 (45:47):
You may.

Speaker 12 (45:50):
It's amazing. It's fun. I mean, it was fun and
it is what they wanted.

Speaker 18 (45:54):
And I said, whatever you want me to do is
exactly what I will do now.

Speaker 12 (45:58):
Lifting me up and putting me on your shoulder. I
didn't know that I was gonna.

Speaker 18 (46:03):
Have to do that, but I did it.

Speaker 12 (46:06):
More than a dozen times.

Speaker 18 (46:07):
Really, the lift the dance we did probably twenty times.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
Play Wow, Well, at least when you were doing that,
you didn't have to.

Speaker 18 (46:15):
Walk well, Chris looked for the whole song accentuate the positive.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
That's where we're now. You're ready for dancing with the stars?

Speaker 18 (46:28):
It absolutely well, I'm gonna have to rest hydrate for
but the floats have been amazing. The crowds have been amazing. Listen,
mother Nature, she gave us a cold a cold kiss
this afternoon. But if you look around, every single place from.

Speaker 12 (46:47):
Capital to Washington to Summers all the way back to
the boulevard is packed.

Speaker 18 (46:53):
And what I love to see packed with children having
a really good time.

Speaker 2 (46:56):
Yeah, it's been great.

Speaker 3 (46:58):
I'll tell you what mayor ever since you decided that
this should be a nighttime event in the middle of
the week, I still think that was one of the
best decisions that's been made. Well, it's so many more
people come out for this.

Speaker 12 (47:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (47:11):
Well, when it was on Saturday at ten thirty in
the morning, what the downtown business has said to me
was maybe we could do it at a different time.
And then it was like, well, wait a minute, what
I'm a daughter of a.

Speaker 12 (47:22):
Small business owner. When do you want business.

Speaker 18 (47:24):
Well in the week when you're open, right, you know
at that, especially for restaurants, right, like, give me.

Speaker 12 (47:30):
My dinner crowd.

Speaker 18 (47:30):
And so we met with the downtown businesses and they
said we would love to do it, And to this day,
since we started the evening parade, they say it is
their number one or number two busiest night of the
whole year.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
I don't doubt that that is music.

Speaker 12 (47:46):
That is music to my ear.

Speaker 18 (47:47):
So go try to get a soda pop downtown.

Speaker 12 (47:50):
You can get one right now. Yeah, but that's what
makes it so fun.

Speaker 18 (47:54):
Everybody brings their chairs and their blankets. There's so many
wonderful vendors who were here and so we absolutely just.

Speaker 12 (48:00):
We love it.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
And there's candy everywhere. But I have I've seen this.
I've witnessed this. As we're tearing down the set here
after the parade's over, your street, guys are out here,
this thing is around.

Speaker 4 (48:10):
This thing's cleaned up within thirty minutes.

Speaker 18 (48:12):
So let me tell you something the second they step off,
because my first year doing this at night, I literally
stayed till the last person went home because I was
so worried about all what's going to happen.

Speaker 12 (48:22):
We got business is to open in the morning.

Speaker 18 (48:24):
We want people to get to work, and the second
the last float goes, our guys are locked and ready
to go.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
Yeah, right behind Santa Claus.

Speaker 12 (48:32):
Literally right behind Santa Yeah, they are.

Speaker 4 (48:34):
And just sweeping it up as they go.

Speaker 18 (48:36):
Yeah, what's that song? You can't you don't have to
go home, but you can't stay yet.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
That's what that That's what that last.

Speaker 12 (48:42):
Truck says when they're cleaning.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
And you're so right.

Speaker 8 (48:44):
We got so lucky with the weather because I know
later on this evening, after midnight, it's not going to
be as pretty as it is right now.

Speaker 12 (48:51):
No, it is not Mother Nature.

Speaker 18 (48:53):
She's gone to glower us with some snowflakes later on,
but we'll take it. I cannot thank you guys enough. Lisa, Chris,
you guys do an absolutely amazing job. I love that
you do this. It is such a wonderful community thing
that you do. By the way, Hello to my mom
and my dad and my sister who are listening because
I know you are because they never stopped listening to you.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
Oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 3 (49:16):
I appreciate That's to you, my mother, Chris, Mom. Those
are the.

Speaker 4 (49:23):

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Thanks for swinging by, and Mayor Amy Goodman of the
City of Charleston joining us here on Capitol Street.

Speaker 19 (49:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (49:35):
The the I didn't catch who threw it?

Speaker 2 (49:38):
What was it?

Speaker 3 (49:39):
Well, I can't see that car up there. What it
was on? I think it was carepoint. He threw me
a bag of coal. What's that say?

Speaker 4 (49:48):
I got a bag of coal? A message?

Speaker 2 (49:52):
I think that might be a sign.

Speaker 4 (49:54):
I think it is a sign.

Speaker 2 (49:55):
Indeed, I won't make no comment.

Speaker 3 (49:58):
How's that?

Speaker 4 (50:01):
Who coming our way?

Speaker 3 (50:03):

Well, they don't want your call, Chris. That's all yours tonight, buddy.

Speaker 3 (51:41):
Oh oh, look at that.

Speaker 2 (51:44):

They do ABA therapy in school services.

Speaker 8 (52:21):
Wow, that's an awesome service that they provide.

Speaker 4 (52:27):
Hey, Steve, who do you have over your way right now?

Speaker 7 (52:30):
Well, I got the January School of Dance. That's going
by me right now. They're not making a lot of noise.
They're just dancing.

Speaker 6 (52:37):
Oh, somebody's saying hi, Steve. Well that was nice.

Speaker 7 (52:40):
And right in front of them was West Virginia's newest
outdoor RV resort.

Speaker 6 (52:48):
I think that's what it was.

Speaker 7 (52:49):
I didn't get the name though. I couldn't see the banner.
But they sended like their vehicles cended like a bee's nest.
You probably remember them going by.

Speaker 4 (52:59):
I do not remember that.

Speaker 2 (53:00):
No, I don't.

Speaker 4 (53:01):
I don't remember them.

Speaker 7 (53:03):
Perhaps they they've invaded the parade somewhere in the middle
of the route.

Speaker 6 (53:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (53:09):
Nightro Fire Departments brand new ladder truck is going by.

Speaker 6 (53:14):
It looks really good.

Speaker 7 (53:15):
It's got the city of Nitro colors red and black.

Speaker 6 (53:20):
And up next, oh.

Speaker 7 (53:22):
I've got the shark trying to eat Santa Claus.

Speaker 4 (53:26):
Oh, there you go.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
So that one was pretty cool, wasn't it.

Speaker 6 (53:29):
This is just not what you want at Christmas time.

Speaker 4 (53:32):
Well, those are the guys that are sponsoring our broadcast.

Speaker 3 (53:34):
That's wherever found waters Hoars.

Speaker 7 (53:36):
Oh it is I see now on the vehicle. That's
who that is.

Speaker 2 (53:42):
Alliance.

Speaker 3 (53:43):
So this is this is the FC Alliance and they've
been around since twenty fourteen to bring the high level
of soccer to Charleston, West Virginia. And I'm I'm assuming
that all these guys behind them are soccer players. Thank you, buddy,
I appreciate that he threw me some candy. Don't give
it away.

Speaker 6 (54:05):
The one thing consistent that I noticed is lots of.

Speaker 7 (54:08):
Smiles over here, and people are enjoying the parade. I mean,
who doesn't like a parade? Who really doesn't like a parade?
The h I got some guys playing the bongos as
they go by me.

Speaker 6 (54:22):
That'll keep your hands warm. Hey, folks, for you listening.

Speaker 7 (54:25):
That's the only thing on me that's cold, and that's
actually better than it was. But it's kind of chilly
out here tonight, but I think we've had colder parades.

Speaker 6 (54:34):
I really knew what Chris said. He was he was
so warm last year, he was slating.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
I don't remember.

Speaker 4 (54:39):
I didn't know where a coat last year.

Speaker 3 (54:41):
I'll take your word for it.

Speaker 4 (54:43):
It was not cold last year, but now it is
chili this year.

Speaker 3 (54:45):
For sure.

Speaker 6 (54:46):
You just never know what you're gonna get. That's for sure.
But it was lucky with the snow holding off.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
Yeah, the one year they put it off because it
was gonna be really bad and uh and that's that's
what they did. So they got postponed one year, never
been canceled. So hi there, how are you in the
parade having a good time? Another soccer group going by,

(55:15):
the West Virginia Football Club and that's f ut as
the soccer soccer guys continue going by, and.

Speaker 4 (55:25):
Hey, I'm always.

Speaker 6 (55:26):
Over the go ahead.

Speaker 4 (55:28):
I'm sorry, I was gonna.

Speaker 3 (55:30):
Say, I'm always I'm amazed at how much I'm always
amazed at how popular soccer has become from what it was.

Speaker 4 (55:36):
When I was a kid. I mean I was growing
up and nobody played it.

Speaker 7 (55:40):
It was when we were a kid's soccer was the
sport nobody was gonna dare play.

Speaker 6 (55:45):
But no, it was number one, nobody knew how and.

Speaker 7 (55:47):
Number two they didn't understand it and they and it
was like, that's just not a game we do.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
So I remember watching soccer on the case.

Speaker 4 (55:56):
Now, I remember.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
Watching soccer on PBS on Saturday afternoon and not having
a clue what I was watching. They were there was
all those World Cup leagues Back in the day. I
had no idea what I was watching.

Speaker 4 (56:08):
But boys, I still.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
Don't understand it. A whole loss come.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
A long way, though it's extremely popular.

Speaker 3 (56:13):
Yeah, the good folks at offered pest control rolling by
right now the Grinch.

Speaker 4 (56:20):
I don't worry about the Grinch.

Speaker 3 (56:22):
They say he's not his best behavior tonight and ready
to spread some holiday cheer.

Speaker 4 (56:28):
Grinches in the truck, so don't worry about it.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Oh, thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (56:37):
You just get lots of Yeah, I believe that was
I believe that was Hold Steel Company, right. Yeah, And
here here comes Poka Valley Bank and they are playing
the song of my youth. The folks at Poka Valley
Bank were relationships matter.

Speaker 7 (57:02):
Hey, I do feel like I'm in the Macy's parade
now or at the Macy's parade, because I've got a
big inflatable Rudolph coming by me.

Speaker 3 (57:10):
All right.

Speaker 7 (57:12):
I can't see who's who it's with, but oh, it's
Wide Insurance. Now, I see that Rudolph is kind of
towering over everything as it comes by. That's Rudolph got
some fans too. Oh, in Rudolph's got canned Christmas.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
Family Care Health centers, miles of smiles. They've got their
RV dental unit here at least so that there is
an r V. Yeah, don't you go falling in love
with it, because we're taking it with us when we
leave next month. I feel like they missed. I feel
like they missed a little bit of an opportunity to
have really had some fun there.

Speaker 8 (57:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Right, what a valuable service that that they provide the
families mean.

Speaker 3 (57:56):
The West Virginia Poison Control Center as rolling are w
you talking about a valuable service if you've ever had
an issue there, that's that's a good number to have
on your phone.

Speaker 6 (58:05):
Oh, thank you finally gave me candy.

Speaker 4 (58:11):
Congratulations, Steve.

Speaker 6 (58:13):
I don't know what you say.

Speaker 3 (58:15):
Thanks fellas, we just got some more candy.

Speaker 2 (58:18):
Steve, Steve, we're beating you. I'm afraid you.

Speaker 6 (58:21):
Definitely got the candy.

Speaker 3 (58:23):
Yeah, and here comes the vintage fire truck from the
cleanin and Volunteer Fire Department of it. Oh great, man,
can you imagine trying to ride on the back of
that thing. Now, somebody has restored that and done a
really nice job, got it all decorated up.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
That thing's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
It's amazing. Some of these vintage vehicles. How hot Rod's.

Speaker 3 (58:48):
Coming over here too. Yeah, the Clean Thennon Fire Department.
Now their modern trug is right behind the vintage truck
engine number one out of I believe Stephen at the Mockery's.

Speaker 7 (59:06):
That's a that's a farley.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
Is that the Boys Ladies Motorcycle Club? Yeah, yes, I
thought so.

Speaker 3 (59:22):

all the exhaustions.

Speaker 6 (01:00:04):

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
And here's the Celtic College.

Speaker 8 (01:00:24):
That's a great festival that we have here in Charleston,
and usually it's what the first of Marge I believe.

Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:00:30):
In fact, it's their tenth anniversary this year, okay, and
it will be uh yes, each March in Charleston. They
bring the community together sharing Celtic heritage through music, dance,
and cultural events.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
It's a great event if you've never been to it.
And they've got so many different things going on in
the in the city.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
It's it's an awesome Let's say hello to the DuPont
Middle School cheerleaders rolling by.

Speaker 7 (01:01:01):
I'm laughing because the mayor has now come over and
joined me.

Speaker 6 (01:01:06):
And the mayor just came over and just it's ready to.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
So much energy. How did you get over there so quick?

Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
Well, that's what I was laughing about. Here had that microphone.
The mayor just kind of came over and started drooping
like a flower.

Speaker 6 (01:01:20):
That needed water.

Speaker 12 (01:01:21):
I have no idea what you're talking about. Where's my chair,
where's my where's my foot?

Speaker 8 (01:01:27):
Back?

Speaker 6 (01:01:27):
Well here, diva, yeah, right, have a have a.

Speaker 2 (01:01:32):
Well, you know what.

Speaker 18 (01:01:33):
As as we were rounding this last corner with I
was dancing with the Capitol High School Dance Troupe, I
said to them, Okay, guys, we're almost there. And I
was saying it basically to myself, because we did the
routine like twenty five times.

Speaker 6 (01:01:51):
You did the well, I was a very pressed.

Speaker 18 (01:01:54):
It was so fun and I was so thrilled that
the Capitol High School kiddos asked me to dance with them,
and so I just it was just so great. It
was so wonderful, a wonderful opportunity. And they're just such
great kids.

Speaker 7 (01:02:08):
They are, And you know what you've done well by
I know you were talking to Chris and Lisa about
moving the parade to a nighttime parade.

Speaker 6 (01:02:16):
This is great. It really is. Smiles on all the faces.

Speaker 7 (01:02:21):
Little doggies out here too tonight, I thought children riding
in wagons.

Speaker 6 (01:02:25):
No, I'm just loving it.

Speaker 18 (01:02:26):
Well, this is what Charleston is all about. You're looking
at what Charleston is all about. We're a wonderful connected
community who cares about one another.

Speaker 12 (01:02:37):
And that's what you see tonight.

Speaker 18 (01:02:39):
Our businesses are packed, our families are out here together,
lots of laughing, lots of laughing, and you know, mother nature.
I thought, oh boy, it's chilly, but you know what,
after you're out here for a little bit a warm
cup of cocoa.

Speaker 7 (01:02:53):
It's fine, Hey, Chris, I don't mean to steal a
show from you.

Speaker 6 (01:02:57):
But the mayor's all right.

Speaker 7 (01:02:58):
I thought I would chat with her if she's sticking around,
I'll ask her about the Christmas trees. But you guys
might want to tell us what's going on over there
right now.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
Well, we just had the Jefferson Fire Department rolled by
and I had to turn it down because that siren
was drowning out the mayor. So we killed the microphone
for a moment to give the mayor the air. So,
and Lisa has Lisa has gone through some kind of
a transformation here. Her tensil got tied up in her headphones,
and you were having a situation there.

Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
It looked like I had.

Speaker 8 (01:03:28):
A little Well what happened, was, Chris, when the cheerleaders
went by them through candy, they spilled in my hot
cocoa on my notes, so I had hot cocoa fly everywhere.
Then I was trying to get that cleaned up. Papers
went in the wind and then my tensil.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Got in a tangle. It was just a it was
just a little tensil in a tangle incident. I apologize.

Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
I like that. That almost sounds like that almost sounds
like a great name for a band, Tangled Tensil. It
was all right, is the mayor still with you, Steve
Or as she moved.

Speaker 6 (01:03:56):
On, Well she dumped me. She's gone. Okay now, I said, okay,
I was gonna.

Speaker 7 (01:04:02):
I think she probably needs to go to relax and
sit down because she looks, you know something, She is
so energetic.

Speaker 6 (01:04:10):
But I think she might just be a little tired
right now. That out. I don't think she's ready to
go home yet.

Speaker 7 (01:04:19):
I wonder what was I kept feeling something tickling my
head and it was her. That thing she had on,
that head dress she had on with the Capital Dance team.

Speaker 6 (01:04:29):
She was bending over and it was hitting the top
of my head. I thought, what is that? And it
was just it was her.

Speaker 7 (01:04:34):
I wanted her to stick around and talk about the
Christmas trees over here, but because I know that that's
something she's proud of too.

Speaker 4 (01:04:41):
That the.

Speaker 7 (01:04:44):
Holly Jolly Brawley, Yes she did, are something you guys
listening ought to come see if you've not been down here,
because I'm amazed by the talented people that we have
in town. Here that put all this together, and the
people that decorated the trees, they're amazing, leaving pretty just great.

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
So, Steve, we just came across Jared Page.

Stones Family and Youth Services Santa's Silberus for foster kids
spending Christmas hope, one child at a time, and they've
got themselves. There was a picnic table and a picnic
shelter on their float like that, Do.

Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
They look like they're ready for Christmas morning.

Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
They do, indeed, and their message, of course is being
helping home and be a foster parents, and certainly we
need as many of those as we can get in
West Virginia.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Absolutely do.

Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
Hey guys, all right, here comes one of my favorite
places to go in Charleston, the Capital Market, rolling up
with a vintage flatbed with a bunch of Christmas trees
on the back. Do they come decorated like that? If
you buy a tree at the market, do you get
that they come decorated?

Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
I think they do. That's the case.

Speaker 8 (01:06:39):
I want two of them. That's the hardest part of Christmas.
Get those Christmas trees decorated.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
French Creek Farms.

Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
I said, I said it was a vintage truck. I
shouldn't have said that. It's not a vintage truck.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
It looked like it from the front. That a little
bit where you thought that?

Speaker 8 (01:06:59):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
I tell you what. Chris Lawrence, Lisa Odie and Steve
Bishop with you here on five ADWCCHS. We got to

Opera Guild. The official musical theater of West Virginia, was
Anna and the cast of Frozen in tonight's parade, and

(01:08:12):
they will be the first theater group in West Virginia
to present the full length musical adaptation at the Clay
Center in February of Frozen.

Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Steve, you got somebody over there.

Speaker 7 (01:08:23):
Well, I'm just talking to folks, and I don't know
if I was this something you were passing out in
the parade. Oh yeah, okay, all right, I assure you
surely not. It's I was gifted with a tiny bottle
of fireball. Maybe because I was talking about it being
chilly out here.

Speaker 4 (01:08:45):
Well that'll that'll change things.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
That'll definitely warm you up.

Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
All right, I do, I do want to bring something
up here.

Speaker 7 (01:08:53):
So the Warner Law Offices was this something tell tell.

Speaker 6 (01:08:57):
Everybody what you did.

Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
So we came up with a with an idea.

Speaker 21 (01:09:02):
We we give out about three tons of candy every year,
we feel like, and we thought, what would be better
than having golden tickets we have we hand out for
for you know, just a little Christmas cheer, and inside
that golden ticket basically it's a golden envelope. Yeah, there's
some cash in there. It's it's it's a it's a

(01:09:22):
great time here to get a little extra cash. And
uh we we look around and and Bobby uh did
a great job yesterday on Facebook and said, hey, if
you're excited about our float, and we had a DJ
and we had a lot of energy.

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
We heard that.

Speaker 21 (01:09:37):
There's a kid out there that that's really excited and
it's dressed up and it's just having fun.

Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Well they might get a golden ticket.

Speaker 21 (01:09:44):
So we gave out thirty of them tonight, and uh
and we saw some really really happy faces. And we
hope that inside of those envelopes with some Christmas cash,
and we hope it helps those families and and makes
Christmas a little better.

Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
I wish you had left one on the table, Chris.

Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
Well, they're all wishing you'd come back by over there
on the broadcast location on Capitol Street.

Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
You had so much fun. We would love to go
through again.

Speaker 6 (01:10:09):
Well, we would love you to do that too. That's
a great idea, though, thank you for sharing that. By
the way, that's not where the fireball came from. That
was somewhere else.

Speaker 7 (01:10:18):
Okay, that's at not the same.

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
That's a great story and a great idea of a
Bobby Warner Charleston attorney.

Speaker 6 (01:10:30):
Yeah, board dancers, rolling mind.

Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
It looks like we've got eyewitness hue Channel eight is
next up in the parade. Oh yeah, and also their
road tripping vehicle because they roll by handing out candy.

Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
I don't drink fireball.

Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
Why did they give me that?

Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
I'm sure somebody will take it off your hands.

Speaker 6 (01:10:59):
Well, I'm I.

Speaker 7 (01:11:00):
Don't think that was I don't think that was a parade.

Speaker 6 (01:11:03):

Speaker 7 (01:11:03):
I think that was a that was like, I don't
think that. I don't think they were throwing that out
to the children.

Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
We started to broadcast with the Chief of police, and
now we're down. Somebody's giving Steve fireball. That's that's how
this broadcast has eroded through the night. Well you know
how you doing, man, he's a road tripping he is
ribit his news and Channel eight and Fox eleven the

(01:11:30):
live truck rolling by various reporters that you see on
Channel eight handing out candy throughout the.

Speaker 4 (01:11:39):
Throughout the parade route here.

Speaker 7 (01:11:42):
