Me Please Pet of the Weekend. Speaking to Pett How
from the Little Victories Animal Shelter will stop by. If
you're into the ice sports at a big event for you.
It's a fundraiser for Little Victories happening Sunday afternoon, South Charleston.
We'll talk about that. And if you're a WVU fan,
you know they have a big game tomorrow afternoon at
home against Utah. It's Hall of Fame weekend in Morgantown.

(02:18):
We're in those nineteen sixty five throwbacks tomorrow. Friends of
Pinnacle Consultants, proud sponsors of the show. I've really set
our listeners up with some really good tickets for tomorrow.
How do you get them? We'll keep listening because I'm
going to tell you all about it coming up a
little bit later on. And of course you're Calls and Texter,
welcome to but every Friday, as you know what we do,
we talk a little high school football.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
Tom Bragg and Chris Lawrence here. Chris, good morning, and
welcome to the show. Thank you so much. I'm I'm
honored to be here between two wrestling maniacs and a
third about to join us. I'm not a wrestling fan,
but I have no problem with it. But I think
I was a bigger fan of my father in law
who was a huge wrestling fan. And my favorite thing

(02:59):
to do was my father in law watch wrestling. Yes,
because it wore me out. Yeah, because he was He
would just be he would help out the guy that
was in trouble. He'd be swinging his arms.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
It was.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
It was beautiful, beautiful to watch. So yeah, it's they're
they're they're a different breed. I spent thirty years, thirty
years in the business. I got stories, man, I guess stories.
What games you covered?

Speaker 5 (03:20):
N I will be at Ladley Field tonight Aaron Parker
and I will have the call of South Charleston at Capital.
Should be a good and I'm really looking forward to
seeing Tony Robinson Junior play for Capital. I've heard great
things about this young man, not only on the field
but off the field. Just a super individual. Looking forward
to seeing him play tonight. He he has been absolutely

(03:41):
wearing it out from his running back position, So I
would expect there'll be a lot of big plays in
that game and and a lot of scoring because that's
the way these two teams roll. Although South Charleston's coming
off that loss to GW last week and they struggled
mightily there, but they do have a very young team
and whatever loss, you learn a few things. So hopefully

(04:03):
that they'll be able to get back on track this
tonight and see what they can do. Kick off at
seven point thirty. Will be on there at seven o'clock,
following the sports line here on five ADWCCHS.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
What you got tomorrow morning on West Virgina Outdoors.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
Well, tomorrow's the opening day of archery season in West Virginia,
so we'll we'll delve into the massed survey that comes
out every year. I had an opportunity to talk to
the lady who was in charge of putting that together
this year, and we'll learn more about that and sneak peak.
The acorn crop, as most hunters that do any scouting know,

(04:37):
is a bumper crop this year and that does impact
the harvest. So we'll talk about that tomorrow morning on
the show. Also another update on EHD that continues to
be a real problem in the midd Ohio Valley radiating
out from the Parkersburg area. Lots of deer have died
of it, and it's even worse across the river in
Ohio where they are actually considering reducing the bag limit

(04:58):
for deer during the upcoming deer season. They're starting the
process to make that emergency move right now, does not
look like West Virginia is going to pursue that. We'll
talk a little bit about that with the wildlife disease
specialist Ethan Barton on the show tomorrow. And an individual
who caught the biggest bass in the history of the
Bass Nation Fishing tournaments, the biggest basscot in the tournament.

(05:19):
He cut it last week in a Stonewall Jackson's seven
I think it was seven. Seven was the seven pounds
and seven ounces. I think that's what it was. We'll
talk to him about that catch that he secured during
a tournament last weekend. So that's what's on the show tomorrow.
I hope you'll join us.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
All right, we'll be listening tomorrow. Man, Thanks buddy, it's
bringing Tom Bragg. Now, Tom, you Matt Guitar Murphy have
the call for Herbert Hoover and Point Pleasant. That is
tonight road game for the Huskies are heading to Mason County.
Talk about that game.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
Yeah, first time we've been down to Point Pleasant for
a Hoover game since we've been doing this and always
interested to get down to those places that have some
history behind him, places where a lot of big games
have been play over the years. I know Point not
having the best season this year. They're down a little
bit Owen three coming into this one. I think they're
a little better Owen three than maybe some of the
other winless teams around the state. And I think they

(06:10):
present a little bit more of a challenge than Hoover
faced last week. I'll do respect to Lincoln County, just
nothing went right for them, and everything went right for
the Huskies last week. Daniel and I did that game
and we looked up at one point, David, there was
five minutes, five and a half minutes to go in
the first quarter, Hoover had run three offensive plays, the
score was twenty five to nothing.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Herbert Hoover.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
It was just if it could go right for them,
it did, and you can't count on that every week.
And Point pleasants a proud program. You know, those are
kids that have that competed all the way up. So
I expect a hard fought game. Hoover probably should come
out of this one with a win, but that's a
tough place to go play.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Its age.

Speaker 8 (06:45):
You never know.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
Hoover young at a lot of spots, particularly at the
quarterback position. But I thought last week at Lincoln County,
Peyton Griggsby, the sophomore for the Huskies, really kind of
had his coming out party. Three hundred yards five touchdowns,
looked as crisp as he has all season long. Certainly
something if you're Joey Fields and the coaching staff down
there in Elkfield, you can build off of.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
All Right, we'll be listing to you in the Mcutar
Murphy on the air tonight.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Yeah, we're rolling games at seven or seven o'clock. We'll
be on about six fifty.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Five and that's on Superstar Country ninety six to one KWUS.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
That's correct.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
And then you're gonna rebound tomorrow home coming at West
Virginia State. Quickly talk about that.

Speaker 7 (07:18):
Yeah, homecoming for the Yellowjackets tomorrow, Fairmont State coming into town.
It's the mac opener for or not to open the
home opener for in the NEC. West Virginia State one
at West Virginia Wesleyan last week. Fairmont State coming in
at two and one, got upset at Wheeling last week.
So Falcons coming in trying to get back on the
right track, and State just trying to keep the train
on the rails. Right now, they're playing pretty good ball.

(07:39):
All right, we'll be listening. You guys have a great
broadcast to morrow. Thanks all right, thank you, Davie.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
All right, it is nine to fifteen the day violand

Gillenwater from the Gannala Charleston Humane Association with this week's
Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week and has always
picture posted on the Facebook pages both Dave Allen Radio
and the WCCHS Network, also on my ex page at
Dave A seventy Angie, good morning, welcome to the show.

Speaker 9 (08:23):
Good morning, and I also want to throw out this
is a picture you definitely want to go see of
our adopting please pet of the week.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
It is the it's a cat. It's a cat this
week named old Man Jenkins and he's currently a resident
at the Petgo Penhouse out at South Ridge, just waiting
on an adoption. I said this in the description that
the listeners will see when they go over to my
social media. This cat is a survivor. Tell us the story.

Speaker 9 (08:50):
So old Man Jenkins is not only a little bit
older in age, but he also came from the same
abandoned home that Skips With the cat we featured a
couple of weeks ago. He's from the same home ass
Skip with, so he had been abandoned on his own
for a little bit. And when he came into the shelter,
we also discovered that he had a disease called pan
luc apina, which, if you're unfamiliar, it is a disease

(09:14):
pretty similar to parvo and dogs. It's mainly attackt unvaccinated
or very very young cats and kittens. And he actually
beat that. It's very uncommon to see an old cat
with pan luke, but he beat pan Luke and now
he is awaiting a hole at Petko.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Like you said, beautiful, beautiful cat. Gover and see the picture.
And then again if you're looking for a little bit
of an older cat and a survivor with a great story,
it all turned out good and so for old man Jenkins,
go check out the picture.

Speaker 8 (09:46):
All right.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
So you guys got a real blessing this week with
something called the Hero Project.

Speaker 9 (09:50):
Talk about it, absolutely so, the Hero Project. We had
some wonderful, wonderful people from Loewe's, two different loads in
our region come out and build us some playard furniture, which,
if you don't know, it's just structures that dogs can
play on playyard furniture. We had picnic tables built. They

(10:13):
beautified our recycling center, they built us a little gazebo
type situation. They just really worked all day long in
the pouring rain for us at the shelter, just to
make our area more enjoyable, enjoyable, and more beautiful. So
we are thankful for that, but not only thankful that
they did all that, but again they did it all

(10:33):
of the pouring rain, and we are so so thankful
for them.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
All right, just a good stuff. Now, are you guys
out on about anywhere this weekend?

Speaker 9 (10:41):
So we will be at the fall fest in clin Dinnon.
We'll be put up near Clin Dionnon Brewing Company. At
that gazebo, you'll see one of our wonderful volunteers, Sydney,
that we love so very much. She's gonna have some
puppies out there to talk about possibly getting them adopted
or fostered. You can't do either. You can still visit
at this and talk about the pup.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Peace all right, Angie. As always, we love having you
on the show, and we'll talk to you again next week.
Thanks a lot.

Speaker 9 (11:07):
Sounds great.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
You'll have a good one all right again. Old Man
Jenkins is our cat's name this week. He's about five
years old, neutered and up to date on all of
his vaccines, currently at the Petco Penhouse out at South Ridge,
and definitely a survivor. As Angie just told you. I
get his picture posted on Dave Allen Radio on Facebook
and at Dave A seventy on x SO. Dave Allen

to the show.

Speaker 8 (14:26):
Good morning, Thank you very much for having me.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Now I'm gonna say, by the accent, you may not
be from here.

Speaker 8 (14:32):
What gave that away?

Speaker 3 (14:33):
I don't know, I don't know. Just Sydney Australia is
and where your friend that's it.

Speaker 8 (14:36):
Yeah, so I grew up.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Was wrestling something that you always wanted to do?

Speaker 13 (14:41):
I think it was around eight years old was when
I made the decision.

Speaker 8 (14:44):
I was like, pro wrestling is what I want to do.

Speaker 13 (14:45):
I think before that it was rugby was the first thing,
then surfing as most Australians would go through that phase.
But yeah, then eight years old, it was from then
it was I know I wanted to be a pro wrestler.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Now we think sometimes about wrestling being a American thing,
or maybe we think about it being big in Japan
and so like we don't always think about Australia. Now
we know about you know about your broadcast and the
others coming into Australia, But is there a big pro
wrestling scene in Australia.

Speaker 8 (15:11):
Uh, it's definitely getting bigger.

Speaker 13 (15:14):
When I first started training, when I first started going
to the shows in Australia, it was it was quite small.
It didn't really have that kind of buzz around it.
But now with the Internet and stuff and word getting
around in streaming and things like that, yeah, it's the
scene's definitely growing and there's as you can tell, a
lot of great Australian wrestlers coming out nowadays.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
And you're twenty six is twenty six? Yeah, twenty six
years old. And when I say that you are, I
was gonna say you're on your way, You're already there.
I mean you're the T and T champion and at
age twenty six, I mean you got big, big things
in front of you right.

Speaker 8 (15:47):
Now, hopefully man.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, absolutely, And of course you know, aw as I mentioned,
we were talking about the world wide thing. You guys
could be in Huntington tomorrow night, but you're all over
the country and all over the world. You also did
a lot in Japan. Talk about your time in Japan.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
I did. Yeah, I loved my time in Japan.

Speaker 13 (16:00):
I grew up being a big fan of New Japan
Pro wrestling, so it was a dream of mine to
go and work there.

Speaker 8 (16:05):
I got to spend a.

Speaker 13 (16:07):
Bit of time there, won some titles in re Gokusumo Hall.
But yeah, the culture out there, the respect that they
have for wrestling is second to none, and I loved
my time there.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Talk about some of the differences between being in Japan
and being in the US as far as the wrestling
fans go.

Speaker 13 (16:24):
Yeah, the fans, I'd say in Japan, it's something that
you have to adjust to because they are they are
really respectful and they'll sit there and they won't make
any noise, but it's just because they're paying such close
attention to what is happening in the ring, Whereas American
fans Australian fans as well, they're just so into it

(16:46):
that they that they want to make as much noise
as possible. They want to be a part of the show,
and they're just there to have fun. So it's definitely
you have to learn to kind of cater to the
different audiences you're in front of.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
I talked to a lot of gas in the business
and listeners know that I spent time into business as well,
and uh, and they talked about their first trips to
Japan and they grew up watching it here. You know,
this is a lot of us was pretting it and
then they thought they were doing something wrong when they
went to Japan, and the fans weren't like yelling and
screaming and losing their minds like they do in America.
Uh and in other places as well. But it's a

(17:17):
totally different culture and a lot of guys and and
and gals really like the Japanese style just it's different.

Speaker 13 (17:23):
Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean I grew up being a
huge fan of it, so I kind of went in
there with an understanding of what it was. But I
can I can see how it for a first time
on going over there, it can it can be a
shock man.

Speaker 8 (17:36):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
We're talking to Ae w str Kyle Fletcher. By the way,
we have a winner on our tickets. Want to say
congratulations to Kara Armstrong of South Charleston. She was a
winner of our tickets for the WVU game. Kara and
a guesst A're gonna be going to Morgantown tomorrow setting
in the touchdown terrace for that game for the Mountaineers
in Utah. Kara Armstrong from South Charleston was our winner.
So congratulations to Kara. And your career really took off

(18:02):
doing some research in the tag team ranks, that's kind
of where you were known as. But now you're doing
your thing as a singles wrestle. We'll talk about contrasting
the styles.

Speaker 13 (18:10):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean, going from me in a tag team,
it's very much like you have someone to bounce all
your ideas off someone to collaborate with and like kind
of proofread everything. It's kind of a joint thing. Whereas
being a singles wrestler, a lot of most of the
ideas of mine, everything that you see about my presentation
when I'm in the ring, the moves I want to do,

(18:32):
all that kind of thing, they're kind of my own
brain child. So's you kind of have to have a
total different level of trust in your own instincts because
you don't have that person to check you when your
ideas suck.

Speaker 8 (18:44):
Right.

Speaker 13 (18:45):
So yeah, so it's been a bit of an adjustment,
but I really feel like I'm finding my confidence in
the ring on my own. And yeah, I think having
the TNT Championship kind of proves that I would.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Hope and aew For those that that don't know, ad
A w started a few years ago, uh and and
and and you're it's a rising organization, has been you
know for some time. Uh And it's giving, you know,
because for so long there was the one guys, and
then there were all the little ones. Hm, Okay, now
it's not that way. I mean, you guys are doing

(19:18):
are doing amazing things and giving people and giving Here's
what I like about it. It gives fans an opportunity
to have different products and high level products.

Speaker 8 (19:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (19:27):
Absolutely, I think I think just since AW has been around,
the wrestling industry has changed so much and for the
better in so many different ways. Uh Yeah, Like you said,
fans have options now they can they can choose what
they want to watch and and wrestling for so long
was had to be a certain way and if.

Speaker 8 (19:46):
It wasn't that way, it was wrong.

Speaker 13 (19:48):
And AW really celebrates all kinds of wrestling, all walks
of wrestling.

Speaker 8 (19:53):
There's there's no right or wrong.

Speaker 13 (19:55):
It's just celebrating pro wrestling as a beautiful art form
in every single way. And uh I, I think the
industry is better for it.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Kind of injuries have you sustained?

Speaker 8 (20:04):
I have been touch wood, very lucky.

Speaker 13 (20:08):
I think the worst one I had in Japan, I
did a moon salt from the back flip from the
top rope to the floor, over rotated a little bit
too much and smacked the back of my head on
a steel guard rail and seven stitches or something like that.

Speaker 8 (20:27):
That that was the worst one. And that's pretty that's
pretty good for pro wrestling. I'll take that.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
And I said that jin, you'll trip walking up the
steps here now, knocking on all the wood, knocking on
all the genuine simulated brick. Oh yeah, here in the studio.
So now you're the T and T champion. But I
know the ultimate goal is to be the world champion.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
Of course. Yeah.

Speaker 13 (20:48):
I think I've known that. That's been my destiny for
since I was eight years old. It's it's what i've
what I've chased after. I just had my first shot
at the world title this past Saturday, all out against
Hangman Page. Took me to my limit, but it kind
of gave me that taste and now I'm even hungrier
and I know it's gonna happen very soon.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
And of course you're the T and T champion now,
and that's that's that's certainly nothing to be scoffed at him.

Speaker 8 (21:13):
It's a pretty presidious champions huge accolade.

Speaker 13 (21:15):
Yeah, And I think right now the focus is on
becoming the greatest T and T champion of all time.
And I think if I can get there, it just
goes goes along with my building that legacy and going
down as one of the greatest of all time.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
You not long ago got to win over the legendary
Dustin Rhoades, son of the iconic one of my all
time favorite wrestlers of the American Dreams star dust Dusty
Rhodes talk about beating a veteran like Dustin Rhads.

Speaker 13 (21:45):
Yeah, like I said, it just things like that go
into building this legacy that I'm that I'm chasing after
someone like Dustin Rhodes, who's been There's some some stat
I think he's wrestled in five different decades, something ridiculous
that maybe the only wrestler to ever do that. So yeah,
for me as a twenty six year old to be

(22:05):
able to beat someone that caliber just goes to show
the kind of wrestler that I am. And yeah, keep
building that resume.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
And of course the big event is tomorrow night at
the Martiall Health Network Arena in Huntington, AW Collision. Talk
about who you're facing tomorrow name.

Speaker 8 (22:22):
I am wrestling.

Speaker 13 (22:24):
I'm defending my teens championship against a man named Commander,
a young luchidore who have had one match with before
in the past, and that one that went pretty crazy.
So yeah, Commander's coming back off an injury. First match back,
I think he's pretty excited. I think I'm pretty excited.
I think it's gonna be a fun one.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
For people that haven't seen you, Kyle talk about your style.
I mean, you know, you spent the time in Japan,
but you were also obviously native Australian and you come
to America, where as you said with aw they like
to kind of blend the difference. There's so many different
styles out there. If you had to put yourself in
a category, what's your what's your one or two styles?

Speaker 13 (23:04):
Possibly I like to think of my style as maybe
not so much a style, but I just love beating
people up so much, and I love picking people up,
dropping them on their heads, slamming them down as hard
as physically possible. I'm strong, I'm fast, I'm agile. I

(23:27):
can blend almost every style of wrestling together seamlessly with
an intensity that you have never seen before.

Speaker 8 (23:35):
So if that, if that rounds out.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Part, it's perfect. Perfect attributes for our our sales person here, Bobby,
who's the one that brought you in the studio. She's
also the same way. She likes to beat people up
and drop them on their heads. Amazing, So it all
all kind of I'll give her a shot of my
championship stop for she's already said she wants to have
a picture, So we'll do that on your way out,
because I know you guys will got plenty more stops
today and so you're out, you know, doing this sort

(23:58):
of thing now because I know you've made the rounds
and you guys are going to honeying to do some
TV today. So people, it's not just about the thirty
to forty five minutes or maybe an hour that you
spend in the ring every night. There's a whole lot
that goes into it.

Speaker 13 (24:10):
Yeah, there is. I mean, this is my whole life.
Like I said, I've been fan since I was eight
years old. I've been training since I was fourteen years old.
I've been wrestling for nearly half my life. And yeah,
it is my whole life. I go home and it's
all I think about, it's all I watch. My whole
day is based around becoming the best professional wrestler I
possibly can and hopefully becoming the best professional wrestler of

(24:32):
all time one day.

Speaker 8 (24:33):
So yeah, it's not just not just what you see
in the ring. There's a whole lot that goes into it.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Well, let's talk about the training aspect of it, because
that's a big part of it. What's an average training
day like for you? I know it's hard when you're
on the road, you know, of course, what do you
do to stay in shape?

Speaker 13 (24:47):
Man, it's I'm in the gym six days a week
in the morning, I try and get my cardio in.
I'll do all my mobility type stuff, chiropracta every week, saunas,
all the recovery type stuff, and then yeah, on the
road it becomes difficult, but you just get it in
when you can. Nutrition is very important. I'm very dialed

(25:07):
in with that as well. So yeah, like I said,
as a full time job.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Honestly, people don't understand how important the cardio is on
it for sure. I mean you can have the big
you know, the awesome bodies and everything, but after about
ten minutes in, if you don't have the cardio, none
of it matters.

Speaker 8 (25:21):
That's it.

Speaker 13 (25:22):
Yeah, I just wrestled forty minutes this past weekend, So
there's nothing like in ring cardio.

Speaker 8 (25:27):
You got to get those reps in.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Who were and I know you guys got to go,
but who are some of the folks that you watch
growing up that really really struck a fancy with you
if you want to do this.

Speaker 13 (25:39):
Like I said, I'm twenty six, so I'm a bit younger.
My first, very first favorite was Jeff Hardy. He's the
one that really made me fall in love with wrestling,
and then from there it was my love of Japanese wrestling.
It was Jusianliga was one of my big guys. Prince
Devitt as well, and then Kenny Omega who was one
of the founders of AW in the end, they were
kind of kind of the one that made me fall

(26:00):
in love with it.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
All right, Well, the big event is tomorrow night. Uh,
it's a collision AEW collision of too Marshall Health Network Arena.

When we think about substance use disorder in West Virginia,
we need everyone to come together and motivate change artists
and recovery activists throughout the State have teamed up to
paint murals that inspire hard conversations. It may seem small,
but everyone played a role in breaking through stigma and
turning these murals into something vibrant and meaningful. When it

(28:48):
comes to how we think about recovery, it takes all
of us to break through addiction. Learn more at back

Welcome back to the show. It is twenty four minutes
away from ten Bigley Pigglely Wiggly Hotline three zero four

Text three zero four nine three five five zero zero Waight.
We are efforting to get Stephanie Howell on right now
from the Little Victory's Shelter and they have an event

(29:46):
going on in South Charleston on Sunday. It is a
it's an ice event, like an ice skating type event,
I mean, and this thing is huge and we're gonna
try to get her on the phone here momentarily to
talk about the event. And if we are unable to
then I will definitely talk about the event. But Dave
Allen showing five dy Line is brought to you in
part by Jute Security JOT Jute Security System. Totay's valleys

(30:10):

I had a great time with that interview with AW
with the aw star there, Kyle Fletcher, I mean, just
super nice guy. Uh and uh, he's gonna do great
things in that in the business. He already is. I mean,
he's already wrestled for the world championship and he's a
current T and T champion. He's just twenty six years old.
It was amazing to me to find out that so

(30:33):
far at twenty six, the only serious injury he's had
or stitches. That's because people don't understand this about the
wrestling business. They think, oh, you know, it's this and
it's that, and those guys don't really get hurt. Talk
to any wrestler over the edge of forty and watch
him walk. I mean, there is no easy way to
get slammed onto a floor. You get slammed onto a floor,

(30:54):
it hurts. You go through a table, it hurts.

Speaker 8 (30:57):
Period.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
It's just a matter of the pay. That's why I
did the announcing thing as opposed to the wrestling thing.
That's the that's the whole reason I did that, all right,
So I wan't to talk about an event that's going
to be going on in South Charleston and it is
happening on Sunday over at the Memorial Ice Arena and
the benefits Little Victory Animal Rescue group. It's called Paul's
on Ice. Stephanie Howe's with the group and she joins

(31:18):
us now to talk about it. Good morning, Stephanie, welcome
to the show.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
Well, good morning, it's I'm glad to be here.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
All right. Yeah, well, I'm glad to have you here
as well. So talk about this big event, because you
and I were talking on the phone yesterday about this,
and yeah, it's a great fundraiser for the organization, and
we'll get in that a little bit later on. But
I mean, folks are into the into the whole Ice Games.
This is a great opportunity for them to see some
world class people right here in South Charleston.

Speaker 8 (31:46):
Yes it is.

Speaker 6 (31:47):
And you know, even if you're not into ice skating
and you've got kids or something like that, this is
a great opportunity to have a Sunday evening family night out.
The skaters are literally world renowned JD and Alexis Rappole.
They have skated in fifty countries on cruise ships. They
hold againess World World Book of Records, and Madison didn't

(32:11):
say she too was world renowned. She skates on ships
and she's incredible. And then we're flying somebody in her
name's Angela Wang and she does cruise ships and things
like that. So this is an event that's been never
done before for a fundraiser that we know of. So
these skaters are all coming together from all over the

(32:32):
country to do this event for Little Victories.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
And let's talk about Little Victories for a little bit.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
Okay, for those of your listeners that don't know, Little
Victories is a no kill animal rescue in owner West
Virginia and we are not huge. We don't get any
funding from city, county or anything like that. All the
money that's raised is my job, and so these events
like this fundraiser are what helped keep us going. We

(33:01):
have fifty five cats, I mean fifty five dogs and
thirty five cats. Our cats are in a free roaming
cat house, so they're not in cages or anything like that.
It's literally a three bedroom, two bath house and they
have free ring, which is pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
I love that. I love the fact that they can
do that, I mean, and and I love the fact
that we have a lot of great volunteers because you look,
you know, we we do animal rescue groups and organizations
on the air of the time. We just featured one
as a matter of fact, out of Huntington a couple
of days ago on our our Wonderful West Virginian segment
that Amanda Baron and I do on Metro News Midday,
and they talk about the need for this and there's

(33:35):
such a there's such an issue, uh, with our with
our strays out there, cats, dogs and sometimes other things.
I mean, God bless you folks that are that are
doing this sort of thing. But you can't do it
if you if you don't have money to pull it off.
And that's where these events, that's where these events come at.
And big hats off to these folks that are going
to be at the at the Ice Arena in South
Charleston on Sunday, because I mean, they could be doing

(33:57):
a hundred and two hundred other things, but they're choosing
to be here to help out a great cause, right.

Speaker 6 (34:02):
And one of the cool things this all went down
like in a six week saying because all the skaters
are getting ready to go out to do their contracts.
Some of them are going on cruise ships. Jad and
Alexis are going up to New York to do a
big show through Christmas. So I mean they really do
have someplace else they could be and not skating on
their time off. But it's not going to only be

(34:24):
the professionals. It's going to be some learn to Skate,
which are people that are just learning to skate. The
ice hockey team is going to do a performance to
Who Let the Dogs Out? Which ought to be a
cute same love them exactly. And then what's really fun
too is at intermission we're going to do a Frosty
Palls walk across the ice. So we have seven or

(34:47):
eight dogs that are going to walk across the ice
and they're all adoptable and it'll be like a little
parade of adoptable dogs.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
That sounds great again, We're talking to Stephanie. How about
this big ice event? This is going to be going
on over at South Charles's raising money for Little Victories,
The Dave Island Show and five Any Life is brought
to you in part by Hustin's Pizza. This month, pick
up a large at inch pepperoni pizza and an order
of six meatballs twenty four ninety nine dining delivery or pickup.
Visit Huston's Pizza dot com. And you know you mentioned
about them doing the performance to Who Let the Dogs Out.

(35:16):
That's one of the things that I like about because
for so long and I consider skating to be an
art somebody who can barely walk up and down steps
without falling, Okay, I have no ability whatsoever in that,
but one of the things I like about skating and
then you can And I had somebody on from the
West Virginian Symphony last week and we were talking about
some of the things that they do. One of the

(35:37):
things I like about where we've kind of come right
now is these things that are art likes and as
like I said, skating is art to me. It's athleticism obviously,
but there's a lot of art involved as well. They're
starting to embrace it's not just you know, you just
don't hear the pretty classical music when you go out.
You hear contemporary stuff. And I love that kind of thing.

(35:58):
Talk about that a little.

Speaker 6 (35:59):
Bit, well, I mean, you kind of have to move
on with ages. It's I grew up doing gymnastics, and
it was the same thing. It was classical music, you know,
very boring piano pieces and things like that. And now
they are allowing these quote unquote artists to pick their
own thing that's something that fits their personality, which I
think that's important, and it also keeps the audiences engaged.

(36:22):
You know, if you're sitting there listening to songs you
don't know, you might lose your train of thought, you know,
not stay concentrated. But I think the fact that they
can pick their own pieces the songs, and one of
the things that the skaters we're talking about is they
normally when they go to do a show that's on
a ship, everything's choreographed for them. And this I show

(36:46):
has given them the opportunity to do their own choreography
and show more of their own personality. So I want
your listeners to realize this is such a huge opportunity
and you can They can get their tickets now and
if they get them at the door, which they are available,
but they're five dollars more the day of the show.
So if they want to get tickets now, it's at

(37:08):
Little Victories dot Org and they can hit the events
page and you can buy your tickets there and there's
two levels of tickets. You can get a thirty dollars
ticket general admission, or you can get the fifty dollars
ticket and that gives you a meet and greet, so
you can go in and get your picture made with
the professional ice skaters, the programs, you can have your

(37:29):
program signed by the skaters. And then we also have
the cozy lounge with the pups and you can go
in with your meet and greet and meet the skaters
and the dogs. So just in the plus, the extra
twenty dollars is twenty dollars for Little Victories, so you're
providing medicine and things like that for dogs and cats.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
And I also do want to mention that my Metro
News Midday co host Amanda Baron alongside Marrily mccalluff, we're
going to be in seeing the event, right.

Speaker 6 (37:57):
Yes, they are actually board president works at w w
K and when this all came about, I said to Bill,
I'm like, do you think somebody from the station would
be willing to mc and Amanda and marri Lee both said, yeah,
we'll do it, so you'll get to come out and
see them live instead of just on air, and you

(38:19):
know you might be able to if they stick around,
you might get to do a meet and greet with
them as well.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Well, it's really not that big a deal with Amanda,
I'll tell you it's it's not that big a deal
to meet Amanda, just so you know.

Speaker 6 (38:28):
Yeah, she's I think I think she'll be very nice
to people and let them meet her.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
She's awesome, so she really I hope she's not listening
to this because I want to give her the big head.
But she's all right, she's alright, we have fun. I'm
sure she's like the little sister I never needed.

Speaker 8 (38:44):
But anyways, a good girl.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
So and i'll pay. I'll pay good money if you can.
And I don't know about their athletic backgrounds, but I
know Amanda has told me that she was. She did
a lot of athletic stuff. I'm sure Merrily probably did too.
But if you can get either one of them out
on skates, I'll make a donation of little victories.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
How's that?

Speaker 6 (39:02):
Well, I think either if I get them on, get
either of them on skates or not, you still should
make a donor.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Well, okay, all right, all right, all right, duly noted.
All right, I appreciate you taking time on your schedule.
Be here, give us the time and the location. How
to get tickets again?

Speaker 6 (39:20):
Okay, it's at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena, and
it's up on off corridor, G up for target and
everything is up there, and it's Sunday. The twenty eighth
doors open at four forty five. The my mind, I'm like,
oh yeah, and it starts at five point thirty. And

(39:42):
you can get tickets at Little Victories dot org and
just hit the events page and those are available there,
or you can get same day tickets, but it's five
dollars more so you can save five dollars if you
go ahead and get them in advance.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
All right, So haven't been a pleasure to have you
on the show. Best of lucome to your event on Sunday.
Thanks a lot.

a couple of texts here. Text is despicable, just breaking
several you and delegates, many from Muslim countries, have walked
out as Net and Yahoo took the podium as a texture.

(44:25):
I'm not really sure what that's about, because I'm kind
of busy right now, but I do appreciate the text
on We'll look into it. Maybe talk about that on
Metro News midday. Let me see text says and Dave,
I know you really don't care about agriculture, which is
ironic due to your proclaim proclaimed love of food. But
did you see the recent news about American agriculture. Trump

(44:48):
is going to bail out the farmers because they can't
sell their product due to his tariffs. Farmers New China
wouldn't be buying corn and soybeans, but planted them anyway.
These people made a bad decision and now want the
government to financially help them fix their mistake. Does that
sound familiar to the student loan forgiveness? It does to me.
Socialism for me but not for THEE is the motto

(45:09):
of the GOP. That was a great job with the
rhyming there. From the texture, I'll say that Tex says, Yes,
people need to know that not all animals needing forever
homes are at the shelter. Please remember rescues that offices
and clinics when adopting or donated. And I uh one
percent agree with that, and I know Angie Gillenwater, who
we have on every Friday from the Cadal Charleston Humane Association,

(45:31):
would say the exact same thing. There are very if
you want to you wanna forever pet and a texture
gets credit for spelling it if you are which is
the way we pronounce it in southern West Virginia. Anyway,
I would say that there are if you want a
pat there are various places to get them, and we
think about the shelter because we have a great working
relationship here. But Angie will be the first to tell

(45:52):
you there are other places. You know, look into these
or just help out. And here's the thing about it,
when it comes to pets, not everybody can have a
house or yard full of dogs and cats. And I
completely get this. Some can't have any at all. You
live in an apartment, or you know, maybe you're allergic.
Still love pets, but you're allergy to it. That's understandable.
There's so many different ways that you can help that
don't even involve taking in an animal. I mean from donations,

(46:16):
volunteering time. A lot of people are willing, a lot
of people do that. You know, you can be a foster.
You can do so many things, so great point there

We go to we Wheeling, Morgantown, southern West Virginia, We've

(47:21):
done Beckley. We go all over this week. So I'm
not going to tell you who it is. You're gonna
have to listen tour in the one o'clock hour. This
week's is a fine eating establishment right here in the
Kanaal Valley. So it's someplace that you've probably dined before,
and somebody said, hey, you need to focus on these folks,
so we chose to do it. And so that's our
lunch spot today. Somebody from right here a restaurant right

(47:43):
here in the kanav Valley. So we got that on
the show today. Also, it is homecoming at West Virginia
State and the President of State, Eric Cage is going
to join us. Raleigh County Commissioner Daniel Hall is on
the show today. Over in Raleigh County, they have a
real issue with panhandling, and as many areas in the
state here, we've talked about it extensively here in Charleston.

(48:03):
I know in Morgantown it was a big deal, a
lot bigger big deal in Morgantown, it wasn't Charleston, to
be honest with you. Well, Daniel Hall is a county
commissioner in Raleigh County and they are looking to enact
a ordnance and still in the beginning stages, but they're
looking to enact an ordinance that would in effect band panhandling.
So we're going to talk to Daniel Hall about that.

(48:25):
Political columnist Mark Curtis will join us as he does
every Friday, and Daniel Woods for the Metro News sports
team and news team will join us with our Friday
football b lists. It's a great weekend Mountaineers. As I
mentioned earlier, they get that Hall of Fame game against
Utah coming up tomorrow afternoon. Marshall on the road taking
on Louisiana State, a big one for West Virginia State,

(48:47):
as I mentioned, as they are observing homecoming states great
college games. I'm rocking my Georgia gear today, all right,
because you know I'm a big Georgia Bulldogs fan, and
Georgia is taking on Alabama. We're going to spank some
Crimson tide tomorrow and so I've got my Georgia stuff on.
So bottom line is we are going to talk about
that in the Football Blitz with Daniel coming up during

(49:09):
the two o'clock hour, Metro News Midday with thirteen News
and Tight Live anchor Banda Baron and Me coming up
at noon today. It's brought to you by Selango Law
on this show. Monday, on the local show, Lisa Odie
is going.

Speaker 8 (49:20):
To join us.

Speaker 3 (49:20):
You may have heard her on the on the car
Lee podcast. She's going to join us on the show
on Monday, as will Danny Jones from Charleston, Maya. That's
coming up on Monday's show. Morgan Pemberton has a story
wv Metronews dot com this morning, and we talked about
this on the last two local shows last night. The
Canaw County Commission did as expected and voted to move

(49:42):
forward on a two million dollar project to upgrade the
law enforcement training facilities here in the county. Good move here,
in my opinion, because not only do law enforcement agencies
in Canaw County and the surrounding areas use it, but
organizations like the DEA, FBI, Customs, Homeland Security, they all
use this great stuff. Good on the Canaw County Commission

(50:03):
for doing this last night. I know I had commissioned
President Selango on the show Wednesday and Sheriff Joe Crawford
on the show yesterday. So me one hundred percent behind this.
It's a great thing for the area. And if you
want to read exactly how it's gonna work, still in
the planning stages. Morgan Pemberton's got the story at wv
Metronews dot com. And I hope you had a chance
to listen to the interview that I did yesterday on

(50:23):
Metro News Midday with the new WVU President Michael T. Benson. Now,
he's been all over the state of West Virginia. Yesterday
he was in Logan County and went down in the
mines at Mountain Laurel in the Sharples area, and then
he headed to Boone County. That's where he was when
we talked to him on the show yesterday. And of
course he's been all over Charleston the last couple of days.
Who's at George Washington High School, went down to Lincoln

(50:45):
County for a little white Lincoln County High as well.
Today he is at the Buckwheat Festival in Preston County
and then back to the University of this afternoon for
that ceremony where they're going to be naming the WVU
Coliseum the Hope Gas Colisseum. I'll say this about President Benson.
I like the guy. I really really do. We've interviewed him,
he's been president now for a couple of months. We've

(51:05):
interviewed him two three times on the show. I really
really like the guy, full of enthusiasm, is really taking
into West Virginia culture. Told us a story yesterday about
going to Tutor's Biscuit for the first time, not realizing
that that particular Tutors that he went to in Morgantown
closes at two o'clock and he was trying to get
his fix on his mouth. Of course, he's going to
get the Mountaineer. Can't get the thunder and hurt. You know,

(51:26):
he's going to get the Mountaineer. And we had to
educate him on that a little bit. I told him
a couple of other things that he needs to do
to be a true West Virginia and he's on his way.
I just like the guy, I really really do. I
think he's doing great things in Morgantown. I think he
will do great more things in Morgantown. And as far
as the stadium naming rights, I know a lot of
people don't like it, but look it is. It is

(51:47):
a necessary evil. I don't even want to call it evil.
It's just necessary in the world of athletics today and
now in college sports, which is a big business. It's
always been a big business that just what you know
about quadrup Over the last couple of years, you got
to name them. The stadiums have to be named. And
the coliseum in Morgantown was probably one of the last

(52:08):
of the larger colleges that didn't have naming rights. Well
it's name now it's the Hope Gas Coliseum. I think
they're going to kind of shorten it to the Hope Coliseum.
We're going to have the CEO of Hope Gas on
the show on Metro News Midday on Monday, so we're
looking forward to that conversation with him that I think
press event. I think it's early this sapterning. I want
to say one o'clock with the WV folks and Hope

(52:31):
Gas folks. So anyway, I just want to get that
in about Michael Benson. I really like the guy. I
like this guy too, TJ. Meadows, how's it going, man?
Would you rather it be named by some big, huge
global company that has no West Virginia time, or that
nobody knows what it means? You know, because we've seen,
I mean, with all due respect to the Steelers aquer
S Stadium, a lot of people had no idea what

(52:51):
that was. I mean, I like the fact that it's
a West Virginia company. It's a necessity to your point.
I like that it's a West Virginia company. And for
those that are saying, well, hope, yeah, shouldn't be able
to do that. They're a public utility. Look, it's out
of their profit. It's not out of your money. It's
it's what do they make. And there's nothing wrong with
a company making a profit. We open up that can
of square. You're preaching to the choir here, buddy. All right,

(53:14):
we got Meadows of Wilson going up a talk line.
I'll see later today for Metro News midday.

Speaker 20 (53:18):
Till then, have fun and love somebody.

Speaker 2 (53:34):
Hs Amy six point five in total stick one oh
four point five Cross Lane on WVRC Media station We're
proud to live here too.
