Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, So I'll tell you what we're not gonna
talk about. We're not gonna talk about Jerry Jones and
the Dallas Cowboys and what he said about Deck Prescott.
Now the offense looked better without him thanks to the
Philadelphia Eagles. We're not going to do that because it's
low hanging fruit. We're not gonna talk about the New
York Jets and what a disaster they are because it's
(00:23):
low hanging fruit. We already saw Garrett Wilson, I'm sure
saying that they're playing like trash. It was honest, it
was direct, and it's the reality. We're not gonna talk
about it because it's low hanging fruit. Period. And what
we're also not gonna do is we're not gonna single
(00:47):
out Debo today because there were plenty of instances, and
there were plenty of scuffles, and there were plenty of
fights during football games on Sunday. I mean, I'm sure
everybody saw mixing in Houston when he was on the sideline.
(01:11):
I'm sure everybody saw Pickens and Sanders still during the
Pittsburgh Washington game. I'm sure everybody saw Patrick Tutan and
de Hop getting after it during Denver and Kansas City.
And what really continues to aggravate me about this is
people forget that it's a man sport and when men
(01:33):
are playing and the game is intense and there's things
on the line and you're frustrated for whatever reason, every
now and again, you're gonna get after it. We saw
it with Peyton Manning and his center, right, wasn't it
Jeff Saturday or whoever the hell it was, Tom Brady.
We've seen it with players all the time throughout the years.
(01:53):
And what really bothers me is how everybody glorifies you know,
the Jack Lamberts from back in the day, Dick Buckis
and you know two tall jumps, all these guys man, right,
that were just oh, that was real football. They were
getting after it, Brody. Half of them dudes back in
the day were basically committing assault, all right, So we're
(02:14):
not gonna glorify what was going on back then and
then say, well that's wrong now. That just doesn't belong
in the game. Nobody got hurt, no real damage was done,
we didn't see any real real fights. Okay, let's everybody
cool out for a sec and realize that it is
a part of the game. And if I was Debo,
(02:38):
I'd have been pissed off too. What was it? Three
missfield goals? Now, coincidentally, a field goal ended up winning
the game for them, but let's let's be honest here
that if I were him, and look, I don't know
if I would have taken it out on the snapper,
but because there was a lot of factors in those
missfield goals. But the reality of the situation is I
(03:00):
would have been upset to you know, we're not doing
very well inside the red zone, we're not moving to
football very well. We finally get CMAC back. He makes
a couple of plays, right, I'm sure eybody saw the
long catch play that he made. We're finally getting some help.
We're getting guys healthy again. We're getting guys back. We've
been struggling. We're often on all season long. We're not
(03:21):
doing anything spectacular right now, this is a must win game.
You've got the Arizona Cardinals doing what they're doing right
now in the NFC West. They've made a huge comeback
in the second part of the season when they start
out one to three, now they're five to one in
their last six games. So the primary factor here is
(03:43):
we've got to start winning games. That we got to
start winning them now or we're not even going to
make the playoffs. This is a team that I think
is still potentially feeling a lot of hangover from the
Super Bowl last year, and I think a lot of
people at the beginning of the season hung their hat
on that Jets win because everybody felt like, the Jets,
We're going to be impressive. Remember when all these analysts
and pundits and people were making predictions saying that oh
(04:06):
aa Ron was back and they were going to be
in a championship, and Chad Ocho Sinko was like, oh,
I was more impressed with the Jets in that loss
than I was the forty nine ers in that win,
et cetera, etcetera. Remember all of that was being said.
Here we are, how many weeks later, and it doesn't
even matter. That win is completely irrelevant. Now You've got
(04:30):
to focus on winning game after game after game. You
gotta come on and you got to get streaky right now.
So yeah, if I'm him, I'm frustrated. I'm a little
pissed off as a matter of fact, And there's nothing
wrong with it. I mean damn man. At least he's
showing some emotion and they ended up winning that football game,
and again it was a field goal that did the job.
(04:52):
Somebody got the memo. I mean, somebody's got to step
up and say something. I mean, does anybody remember Troy Aigman,
If anybody's seen that of a football life where he's
on the sideline yelling at everybody, He's like, I'm tired
of being the one that has to get up everybody's
ass all the time and make everybody do their fucking job.
Remember that, And all these people talking about penalties and
(05:17):
all this and that, and the third well, you know
certain in d Hop when they got into it early
on Sunday. I mean that, really that penalty should have
gone in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. Really both
of them could have been penalized. But it is what
it is. I'm just saying that it's a man sport
(05:40):
and we need to remember that football is still football,
and we need to stop living in the idea hypocritical
world where it was okay in the seventies and we
glorify that, but we can't do it in today's game though.
For whatever reason, and I know somebody's gonna go, well,
the game evolves, it moves on. Da da da da duah.
What I am saying is we cannot be hypocrites. If
(06:01):
we're gonna say it was okay back then, then we're
gonna say it's okay now. So if you say it's
okay back then, I don't win here. You say it's
not okay now. That's pretty much all there is to that.
Something else that I want to clear the air on. Look, man,
I love Prime and I can appreciate where he's coming
from the tortilla thing. And look, I'm just gonna report
(06:23):
on this and I'm gonna let you decide on what
you think. So there was a report that I read
from seven years ago, mind you, from what was the
sight Like everything Lubbock I believe was the source for this.
And this is back in twenty seventeen when they were
throwing tortillas on the field. Now there's conflicting statements about
how this happened, right, it used to be in Texas Tech.
(06:45):
What they would do is they had, you know, the
Coca cola bottles, and they would take the caps off
and then they would throw them onto the field. Well,
they didn't want him to do that anymore, so they
started giving people bottles without caps on them. And then
they just started you know, of course, and now even
the soda cups and all that stuff. So no more
bottle caps, right, So then what do they started throwing.
They started throwing tortillas instead. Now there's also a conflicting
(07:09):
argument that an ESPN reporter back in what was it like,
nineteen ninety said something to the effect of all they've
got in Lubbock is Texas tech and tortilla factories. So
they said, okay, fine, you bro and started throwing tortillas
on the field. Now, to be fair, if you get
caught throwing a tortilla, you could get kicked out of
(07:29):
the game. And it has been discouraged and it's been
a very dying I don't want to call it a tradition,
but it's been dying. But it was there before Prime,
it was there before Colorado showed up. And to be honest,
I'm not gonna say that Texas started something this year
with the water bottle thing. If you're gonna throw something
(07:49):
out on the field, you know, tortillas are better. Now,
I'm not saying that I agree with it because I
think it's childish. Okay, this isn't WCW, this isn't ECW.
You know, people throwing chairs, This isn't hal cove can
turn and heel and the nWo days and people were
throwing oranges and toilet paper and everything else that they
could find, whatever was in their hand. They were chucking
(08:11):
it into the ring. I'm not saying that it's acceptable
because as a fan, look, to a degree, you're part
of the show, right especially in college football, it's a
big part of the pageantry. The student section is really loud.
You look at places like Penn State with the wide out, etc.
I'm not saying that there's no place for the crowd
(08:32):
to be a part of the game, but ultimately you're
not the show. And I know that a lot of
people think that it set the president when Texas through
the water bottles on the field, that it flipped the call.
That's not what happened. I hate to break it to everybody,
but it's not what happened up until the next play happens.
The referees have the ability to change the call. They
(08:57):
get together, they converse, they sorted out, they they could
pick it up at any time. There's no set precedent
that says once the call in the field is made,
then it's made. Now, there are calls that are not reviewable,
but officials can converse up until the next snap happens. Now,
once the next play happens, that's it. What's done is done.
(09:19):
But there was a delay in between, remember that. So
that's ultimately what happened. The students, the crowd, nobody changed anything.
Now ultimately, do I think throwing water bottles and all
that is disrespectful, Absolutely I do. But there are a
lot when it comes to throwing tortillas, there are worse
things that could happen. And I mean, come on, we
(09:40):
all saw what Travis Hunter did. It's just, in other words,
eat me, you know what I'm saying. So he fought
fire with fire. It didn't seem to bother him none. Now,
of course, you know, Prime is the coach, so he's
gonna speak out for it, right and he's gonna stick
up for his players. It is what it is. You
decide on whatever the hell you think happened there. I'm
(10:04):
probably not going to disagree with any anybody in what
they think. To be honest with you, I'm just saying
that it has been a thing. It's not a consistent
thing as much as it used to be, but it
has been a thing, all right. Houston Detroit, man. You know,
I was really excited to watch that game, and boy,
(10:27):
that thing ended up being boring as hell because it
got exceptionally sloppy. I mean, both teams were turnover disasters.
I mean literally there was an interception and then next play,
next team picked the ball off. It's just like, I
(10:52):
don't find football like that entertaining. You know, I've always
said if you turn the football over that much, you
don't deserve to win. Conversely, I've also said that if
you create that many turnovers one way or the other
and you can't score and you can't put the game
away because Houston should have wanted a blowout, let's keep
it a buck, then you don't deserve to win. And
(11:13):
the thing that I always cite is the NSCRY Championship game.
Remember Seattle in Green Bay? Didn't green Bay force five
turnovers in that football game and they couldn't score, and
so they ended up losing the football game. Rusting Company
came back, right? Was it that the Super Bowl where
Russ ended up throwing the interception down on the goal line.
(11:33):
You don't deserve to win. But you know, if you
can't put up the points either, then to me, you
don't deserve to win. So it's an ugly nightmare. I mean,
that game was just an ugly nightmare. And Detroit gets
the win, not because they were so spectacular, but because
Houston's offense completely underperformed in the second half of that
football game. And look, I'm not saying that the turnovers
(11:57):
weren't because of good defensive play, because some of definitely were.
We saw situations where guys were getting their hands up,
we saw situations where guys were diving for balls. I mean,
you know, the defenses, they were all over the field.
Don't get me wrong, but at some point you have
to understand that this is just sloppy offense. And really
what kept Houston in the game was the fact that
they have some sort of running game, and really Detroit
(12:19):
as well. I mean, that's ultimately what was the deciding
factor for both teams. If neither team has a run game,
then who the hell knows how that game ends up
turning out. I don't know that Detroit comes back without
being able to run the football at all, because you've
got plenty of time, you could still create balance, right, So, man,
(12:40):
I don't know that was I literally stayed up to
watch that football game because I, you know, the afternoon games,
I had no interest in whatsoever. I was really excited
for Washington and Pittsburgh. Obviously I was, you know, I'm
a Denver fan, so I was watching the Denver game.
But regardless that that game ended up frustrating the hell
(13:03):
out of me because it was really difficult to watch.
Speaking of which, how are the Russ haters doing right now?
You okay? You good bro? You know now the rest
of the media is starting to catch up. I've been
saying from the very beginning that the Pittsburgh Steelers, at
the bare minimum with Russell Wilson, they are going to
(13:25):
go to an AFC championship game. And whether anybody likes
it or not, he is making throws that Justin Fields
is not making. And we saw it a couple of
weeks ago during Russe's first start when they zoomed in
on him after one of his throws and he just
had the look on his face and said, man, I'm
not playing unless Russ gets hurt. I'm not going in.
(13:52):
And how many haters were on Mike Tomlin's head saying, Oh,
we shouldn't do this. There's no way in hell this
is gonna work. Just stick with fields. Were doing fine. No,
you weren't doing fine. You had lost a couple of
games in a row. You were sputtering, you were getting
found out. Now the run game is even stronger because
(14:15):
you have the threat of Russell Wilson. You have the
offensive line playing a little bit better with Russ as
their quarterback. You have receivers going after footballs now with
Russ as their quarterback. They want to play for this guy.
All the bs and we all heard while he was
in Denver, Oh he wants his own parking spot. Oh
(14:37):
he wants this. All the players don't like him, this
and that and the third It was all bs. At
the end of the day, it was the Denver Broncos
organization that was shooting themselves in the foot. Coaches that
were inept, an offensive line that couldn't block a D
two football team. Anybody see what happened with the Kansas
City Chiefs. Did you see the blocking on that final
(15:00):
field goal that got blocked? It was absolutely horrendous. Well
rose Head, no no, no, no, no, no, no, that's
a false metric that is used in order to well.
They're not taking into account is the screenplays that they
were running. And even then, Russ was consistently under durest.
(15:22):
He never really had time to throw the football. Bo
Nicks is getting beat up back there. That offense is
hit and miss. They won a football game reeling through
sixty yards. I think it was against the Jets. I mean,
damn man. If that had been Tebow or Russ or
a couple of other quarterbacks, it would have been so
you can't play. But for some weird reason, I'm a
bowliever out of here. They threatened him. The Broncos organization
(15:46):
threatened him. I mean, we're gonna bench you. People glorified
bon Nicks and him retaliating and arguing back with coach Peyton.
When Russ didn't do it, Everybody's like, why is he
keeping his mouth shut? Man? Show some passions, show some emotion.
Russ kept quiet and got thirty eight million dollars from
the Denver Broncos this year. Denver is literally paying him
(16:08):
to be three and oh at Pittsburgh right now, literally
paying him to be three and oh at Pittsburgh right
now with a one to oho five QB rating with
a phenomenal touchdown to interception ratio. And by the way,
that was a hell of a game. Now, look, neither
Russ or Jane Daniels played phenomena football in that game.
(16:32):
Let's keep it a buck. But in this particular instance,
to me, it was defense, right. Both defenses were playing
really damn good football against the pass. Now against the run,
it was a bit of a different game, especially for Washington.
I mean defensively, they had a really hard time stopping
to run. But even then, you have the interception from
(16:52):
Russ that Pittsburgh had to overcome. You had the fumble
on the goal line from the backup running back after
Nase was up for a couple of plays that you
had to overcome. But they were still able to get
it done. Why well, because now they feel the thread
of pickings. So you've got the coverage over there. The
safety came down right to defend Nase is what it
(17:15):
looked like to me in that play, and then rush
just over the top. Brody six read it right from
the jump. I don't know that justin fields reads that
play right away like that, Russ was your best option,
whether anybody wanted to believe it or not. I stood
(17:36):
by it from the beginning. And I've also said, if
you think Justin Fields really has that much potential, okay,
well then now you've got stock. Right he was fourgn
too this season. You got a little bit of stock.
You can trade him because if Russ keeps going the
(17:56):
way that he's going right now, he's getting a contract
extent with Pittsburgh. I mean, that's all there is to that. Now.
As a Pittsburgh fan, I would think that you would
want a backup situation, best case scenario, and Justin Fields,
for the most part, was just managing the game pretty well.
He was doing everything that you want a backup quarterback
(18:17):
to do, and that is manage the game. That's exactly
what he did. But eventually Russ can go. You're not
losing anything financially. Why you don't trust Mike Tomlin is
beyond me. You could do a hell of a lot
(18:38):
worse than Mike Tomlin. I'm going to tell you that
right now. To me, everybody else is playing catch up.
Russ is in the best possible situation, and if Denver
Bronco fan isn't seething, I don't know why. If Seattle
(18:58):
Seahawks fan is and seething, I don't know why. And
that was a huge win over Washington. There are no
slouch and Jane Daniels for the most part this year
has been playing like he is a ten year veteran
in the NFL. I can't imagine a situation where they
(19:25):
don't extend Russ trade justin fields and probably pick up
a QB either in free agency or they draft somebody late,
you know, fifty sixth round somewhere in that neighborhood, and
just have a solid backup if you feel like the
potential is there. But here's the thing, though, somebody out
there has got to think to themselves, we can do
(19:47):
something with him. We feel like we can win football games.
I don't know that he would be successful right now
in Chicago probably would be. To me, he probably would be.
I think they'd be better than what they are, that's
for damn sure. But I think justin fields though, it
is just kind of that mid quarterback To be honest
(20:08):
with you, really, when it boils down to it, him
and Kayleb Williams are pretty much the same quarterback. Caleb
can make a few throws that Justin Fields can't. But
that's really about it. I Mean, the story for Chicago
this year has been special teams picking up the tab,
the defense picking up the tab. You've got Dj Moore
(20:30):
who's frustrated. You've got a run game that should be
better than what it is, and even when it is solid,
it doesn't really seem to matter. I mean, you get
DeAndre Swift, you pay them all this money, and you
draft a wide receiver, right kid out of Washington. You
draft a wide receiver and it's just not working. People
(20:50):
want to blame coaching. Look, it's fine. I don't have
a problem with it, but at some point you've got
to understand that Caleb Williams is just not that guy.
But he's there, right And so what do I always say?
Four years takes four years to truly be a quarterback
in the NFL. Go look at any great quarterback and
(21:12):
look at their four season, whether it's John Elway, Dan Marino,
Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, any of them. Go
look at any great quarterback, any quarterback that you think
is great, and go look at their four season. It
wasn't John Elwayne MVP in his fourth year if I
(21:32):
remember correctly, went to the Super Bowl, got a dog walk,
but he was there. Of course, I'm not going to
get into that carried that football team. You're never gonna
change my mind on that. That's all I'm saying. Kayla
Williams just saying it. I mean I've been saying for
the last three years, because the two years prior leading up,
I was saying that Jane Daniels was a better quarterback
than Kayla Williams said at the first time that they
(21:55):
played against Florida State and had to make that comeback.
Said it at the beginning of the season again, maintained
it all year long. Thought he was the most deserving
player for the Heisman. I've been saying it. Go check
the archives, Brody, I got the receipts. I'm not worried
about it. Passing on Jane Daniels to me was a
(22:19):
huge mistake because if you gave jayde Daniels that roster,
I'm telling you right now, Chicago's probably in the same place,
maybe even better with that defense in those special teams
than Washington is right now. Probably the one maybe two
lost football team, and the rumors are circulating that players
(22:41):
are wanting to be traded, they want to go and
play at Washington. The accuracy level that Jane Daniel has
is ridiculous. I mean, just on the button. Brody Leeds
receivers open, puts it where it's supposed to go, gives
his guys a chance to make a play, and they
(23:01):
want to play for him. He's a leader and it's clear.
It's clear that he understands the game of football. He's smart,
he he gets it, film studied. All the things that
we talk about with other quarterbacks that have failed man
Vince Young's of the world, JaMarcus Russell's of the world,
Johnny Manzel's, all of them, what was the one common denominator?
(23:25):
They just relied on their natural ability. JD's out there
putting in work. Brody, I'm not saying Caleb isn't, but
there are other factors that are just missing. And you know, look,
when you want to play quarterback in the NFL. I
know people can say that the league has softened up,
and that's fine. I'm not going to completely disagree, but
(23:45):
you still have to be tough to be quarterback in
the NFL. Jane Daniels is tough. Caleb Williams isn't man.
He just I don't think mentally he has enough in
him that when the chips are truly down that he
can go for it. Getting booed like that, you could
(24:08):
tell it hurt his feelings. There's a part of me
that feels sorry for him. I don't like seeing that.
But you know, those fans are pissed. They've been dealing
with this for years. We did all this stuff in
the offseason. We made all these acquisitions. We got rid
of our guy. We put a football team on the
field that we thought could really win football games. We
drafted the quarterback that everybody convinced us was the next
(24:30):
big thing, and he's completely underperformed. And before anybody says, well,
he had that one good game, folks, I said at
the beginning of the season, he's gonna have a couple
of good games. He's still a quarterback at the NFL
and that's still a stack roster. Do you just go
(24:51):
back and fire the offensive coordinator? Do you fire the
head coach? Look, man, you gotta have some sort of consistency, right.
Restarting every s year is not going to cut the mustard. Now,
I'm not saying that it can't make a difference, because
it definitely could. And by the way, for the record,
it was a stupid question. And you know, Caleb was
(25:13):
as diplomatic, I think as he could be. Do you
have trust in you? I mean, but then again, we've
seen quarterbacks throw their coaches under the bus before. Saw
Cap do it. He's lost the locker room. We've seen
other quarterbacks do it. The play calling is just not good.
We've seen it before. It's not an impossibility that it
would happen. So I guess you could say in some
(25:35):
capacity it might have been a legit question. But you know,
Caleb at the end of the day is saying what
needs to be said. But Chicago, they've got an entirely
different set of problems right now that I don't think
could be fixed overnight. You got to give this thing
time with Caleb. You spent the money, you made the
(25:56):
draft pick. You don't need to add too much offensively,
you don't need that too much with the special teams. Offensively,
I know a lot of people complain about that offensive line,
but it's not that bad. I'm sorry, folks, that offensive
line could be a lot worse. It could be a
lot worse. It's a middle of the road offensive line.
(26:17):
It could be better, but it definitely could be a
lot worse. You can go to bat for Klebb all
you want to. I get it. Here's your quarterback. That's fine, Brody.
I'm just keeping it a buck. I never saw it
with him. I always say that players are reflections of
who their coach is. Look at Lincoln Riley and what's
(26:38):
going on at USC right now. They lost five games
in a row to end last season. This year has
just been horrible for them. Horrible. How that man still
has a job is really beyond me. I don't think
he does at the end of the season. But regardless,
(26:59):
