Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, that's no secret, right. Everybody's seen Devondre Campbell walk
out on the forty nine Ers because he lost his
starting spot. Look, there are a lot of people out
there that are saying that the reason why he walked
out was because it was bonus oriented, and I want
everybody to understand the way that his bonus actually works.
His bonus could actually have been taken away from him
(00:25):
if he decided not to play against the Rams. That's
the reality of the situation. The forty nine Ers could
actually recoup some of that money. So really, what he
was doing was financially in every aspect you could think of,
screwing himself because now what NFL team is gonna want him?
(00:47):
The Green Bay Packers, remember that. Okay, So the reality
is he has done this to himself. Now as far
as the forty nine Ers go, Look, I said from
the jump that I didn't think that this season was
going to be what it was for last season. The
minute that Christian McCaffrey got hurt, I knew that the
forty nine Ers were a doomed franchise. I've gone over
and over again with this with people on the internet.
(01:09):
It is the actual last time that I'm ever going
to bring this up. When they signed Cimac, initially they
were a losing football team. He was there for like
one day. He played a few snaps against the Chiefs.
They lost that football game. From there, they didn't lose
again until the NFSC Championship. And by the way, Jimmy
g was a starter at the beginning of that win streak,
(01:32):
and that I ought to tell you all you need
to know. Now you can blame coaching for the implosion
of the forty nine ers or whatever you want to do.
They have been injury riddled. Brian Perdy, I've already said
a million one times, is not a guy that can
carry a franchise by himself. I don't care what forty
nine Er fan has tried to tell me. He's not
Aaron Rodgers in his prime. He's not John Elway in
(01:54):
his prime. He's not Joe Montana, he's not Steve Young.
He's just a guy, That's all there is to it.
Any fairly capable quarterback when it been able to quarterback
that team a season ago. But once again Kyle Shanahan
got out coached, which is something that continues to happen
(02:19):
in his career. He got out coached when he was
the OC of the Atlanta Falcons in that Super Bowl.
He got out coached at the end of the Super
Bowl against agandas City Chiefs the first time they played him,
which you know, look again, there were some wide open guys.
You can't one hundred percent blame play calling, right at
some point, you got to blame the execution. But let's
be honest, Kyle Shanahan has been nothing but on the
(02:41):
wrong side of history in the NFL. Literally everything you
don't want to be known for as a football coach,
it has been him. And this decline is very similar
to what was happening with John Harbaugh. The only thing
is is so far a lot of players are not
speaking out against Kyle Shanahan. They're all upset with Devon
(03:03):
Dre for doing what he did and deservedly. So you
quit on the team, that's it. You don't deserve a
roster spot, Nobody else is gonna pick you up, and
you literally have nobody else but to blame but yourself.
And I think that's pretty cut and dry. We don't
need to spend a whole hell of a lot of
time on this because the reality is he has nobody
(03:26):
to blame but himself if he's upset about his roster
spot being taken. Let's not forget the look on everybody's
face from the Kansas City Chiefs sideline to the forty
nine Ers sideline when old boy was walking out to
get ready to play defense and he got hurt acl
(03:46):
everybody knew right then and there the game had changed dramatically.
What has Campbell done? Can anybody tell me? Is he
really a player that you think is a game breaker?
He's just a guy who was lucky to have a
roster spot to begin with. As it is, let's be honest.
(04:13):
Moving on Bill Belichick, it is official. Now. Look again,
the Internet tries to get me to change my mind.
I need everybody to understand something. I'm not going to
change my mind. Bill Belichick can scream FU to the
NFL all that he wants to, but when it all
boils down to it, this is a demotion. Nobody in
(04:37):
the NFL wanted to hire him. He can say whatever
he wants to, the reports can say whatever they want to.
The reality is the guy with that many Super Bowls
should have been able to get a job like that.
No questions asked no offens or butts. You know, Bill
Parcells never had a hard time finding work, and that
(04:57):
was his mentor that's all I'm saying. Bill Parcells never
had a hard time finding a job. And let's keep
it a clear buck here. I think there were multiple things.
If it's not just his record outside of Tom Brady,
that's a big portion of it. But let's not forget
(05:20):
all the allegations, all the everything, the alleged videotaping practices,
stealing playbooks, all kinds of madness that has been attached
to his name. Nobody wanted to deal with the risk factor.
And I don't know that there were quarterbacks out there
(05:41):
that would have really wanted to play for Bebe and
without Tom Brady, not only was his record horrendous, but
the Patriots were an irrelevant football team. And don't forget
the season before when they didn't have Brady. He was
(06:01):
their football coach. They were not good. Number twelve saved
his job, saved offensive coordinators jobs, saved defensive coordinators jobs.
He probably kept Robert Craft in business. He saved the
New England Patriots. He saved Bruce Arian's job. This guy
literally saved jobs. He kept everybody in business. That's the
(06:28):
reality of the situation. And now Bill Belichick going to
college football is one hundred percent not in fu to
the NFL. It's North Carolina desperate, and it's crazy to
me that a team that's had the allegations they've had
over the recent years would hire him. But I mean
(06:48):
risk reward, right, You know one thing for sure, the defense,
it's it's gonna climb to the top. There's no way
offens or buds about that. It's gonna go directly to
the top. Though, how will they look? You know, I
Josh McDaniels is probably gonna need a job. I wouldn't
(07:10):
be surprised if he brought him on as his OCN.
But does he want to take the demotion. He's already
been a head coach, but he's been fired from both
jobs in Denver and with the Raiders, So there's that. Man.
I look, I I gotta keep it a buck. I
(07:31):
don't see this really working out. I think they win,
you know, nine or ten games one season, and everything
looks really great and everything is on the up and up,
and other than that, they're a perfectly average program. And
if anything does happen, sign stealing and videotaping. I mean,
there's still a million and one other things that are
not legal in college football. I'm not saying that he's
(07:52):
willing to do these things. I'm not even saying the
man is guilty of all the other allegations. I'm simply saying,
do you really want this around your program right now?
It's difficult, man, it's a lot to handle. But you're
a desperate football team and you need more than basketball
to keep yourself relevant. You know, the nil money, I'm
(08:13):
sure is going to be there somehow, some way now
that you've got him, So the transfer portal, whise I
still think is going to be exceptionally difficult, will be
a little easier. Yeah. Man, Look, I don't think this works.
I don't. I think they have one good season and
(08:34):
that's it. It's over with, and everybody gets geeked up
and hyped up on that one season, and then from
then on it's just complete mediocrity. That's exactly what I
think happens. I'm not even sure that they're able to
stink their way into the college football playoff if I'm
being a hundred with you. By the way, for anybody
telling me that I don't know ball or I've never
been around college coaches. Number One, I interviewed Howard Stellenberger,
(08:58):
maybe the greatest college football coach, which of all time?
Turned around how many different programs? Number two, and I
want to be clear about this. This is a direct
quote from Mike Tomlin. He was asked about coaching college football,
and he said, I have the best job in all
of professional football. Why would I want to coach college football?
(09:18):
It is a demotion, folks. He got mad. He goes
anybody asking Bill Belichick about that, anybody asking Andy Reid
about that. It was an insult to him on many levels.
He didn't want to take that, you know, and to me,
he was, how do I want to say this? Much
(09:39):
more reserved than I would have been, especially with what's
going on in Pittsburgh right now. A few years later,
look at him, man, I'd have been hot. I wouldn't
have taken that, not one bit. So Bill Belichick and
(10:00):
spin all this anyway that he wants to. But it's
all just good coach speech. That's really what it amounts to.
It is a demotion. I mean, come on, man, Chip
Kelly and all these people don't compare Bill Belichick to
so and so. Don't compare so and so to so
and so, and Look, these are all similar situations. Nick
(10:21):
Saban was a phenomenal coach at LSU, phenomenal coach at Alabama,
but he didn't work out in the NFL. And by
the way, he was on the same coaching staff as
Bill Belichick because they were in Cleveland together and it
didn't work out for either one of them. It's just
a point of fact. So there's that real quick here.
(10:51):
Oh Odell Beckham Junior, I guess him and Miami are
mutual parting aways. I mean, look, man, the Dolphins probably
are not going to make the playoffs even if they
went out. Man, it's a tricky situation right now, Okay,
and Odell Beckham Junior is not going to fit in there,
and the injuries and everything else. It's just it is
(11:15):
what it is right Miami to make the playoffs right now,
it's gonna take Americle number one. You've already gotten Buffalo
in pretty much one hundred percent control of the division.
I realize that Miami is still a six and seven
football team, but you've got the Pittsburgh Steelers in the
Baltimore Ravens right now, still very much to control their
own destiny. You've got the Denver Broncos, the LA Chargers,
(11:36):
and the Kansas City Chiefs all clearly still control their
own destiny. The Buffalo Bills, like I said, this is
not going to be an easy path to being able
to get in the playoffs. If they get in, it'll
be a sneak in. But even then, will they do anything?
They have been so bad and they've had so many
chances in the playoffs. They forced how many turnovers against
(12:00):
the Buffalo Bills. They forced a lot of fumbles that
they never even recovered against the Buffalo Bills, namely Josh Allen,
who had three fumbles in one football game, you know,
and you just can't close the deal. And Odell Beckham Junior,
his career has been so up down middle injury, you know,
(12:23):
and everywhere he goes for whatever reason, it's like, okay,
we've got Odell Beckham Junior. Well do you though? I
really do you? And at this point in the season
look trying to fit in with any type of system
and I don't know that it would work immediately. You
kind of had that a little bit when he was
with the Rams, right, I think that's something that should
(12:48):
have remained. I think that was honestly his best shot
at really being able to show that he still had it.
I still maintained to this day and that Super Bowl.
Had he not got hurt, he probably would have ended
up being the Super Bowl MVP. And if you don't
believe me, go back and watch. I think him being
(13:08):
with the Rams that was his last chance at true greatness.
That system worked for him, that corps worked for him,
He had a coach that worked for him. He had
a quarterback who you know they I mean like this man.
But you know, everybody seems to want something different and
(13:28):
nobody ever seems to really know what that different thing is.
So when all is said and done, I think for me,
it's probably time to retire now. I will never tell
a grown man what to do with his career, what
to do with his life. Everybody's got to make decisions
for themselves. The fact of the matter is, I think
(13:51):
that he's probably done in the NFL, and I think
he's been done and it just it can't work out.
You know, it's not about any of the stuff that
these people try to falsely accuse him of. You know,
anybody that you ever talk to say he's a great
a professional in the locker room, Anybody that you talk
(14:12):
to say is one of the best guys to be
around in the locker room, in and out. None of
that BS I think has anything to do with it.
I think number one, it's systems and coaches that don't
know how to use. And number two, it's kind of
his own decision making that's getting the better of him.
And lastly, injuries. It's always something, and at some point
(14:36):
you have to decide whether or not he's going to
really truly add value to your franchise. And I just
don't think that Odell really adds anything. People are not
going to games anymore just to see Odell Beckham junior
play football. People are not turning on their TVs anymore
(14:57):
just to see Odell Beckham junior play football. It's just
not happening. If there was any hope whatsoever for him,
to me, it would be somehow landing back with the
Rams outside of that, and of course being healthy outside
(15:19):
of that. I just don't see where his career is recoverable.
I just don't see it all. Right. Lastly, here, look,
I want to make this point very clear, because again
social media is trying to get me to change my mind.
(15:40):
Number one, You're not going to change my mind on
the fact that there needs to be a rules situation
with college football for the last time, there are rules
to getting into an SEC championship and ACC Championship, etc. Etc.
It is not quantum physics to put rules in place.
If you ask me, the the committee one hundred percent
(16:01):
knows what they are doing, and I guarantee you there
are going to be rule changes because, let's be honest,
sports has always been petty. Sports has always been from
the beginning. Any game that you play, ever as a
kid or as a teenager, always is okay, man, let's
do this all right? Cool? Oh you can't do that.
That's against the rules. What rule the rules? Okay? From
(16:25):
now on? Okay, right, And to this day it's still
like that from now on. Right. So, when the committee
ranked Alabama higher than Clemson and the rules stated that
the power or the highest five rank conference champions are
going to get in, don't think that that won't call
for a rule change. Don't think they didn't one hundred
(16:47):
percent know what they were doing. Do I think Alabama
deserves to be ranked ahead of Clemson. Yes, do I
think they deserve to be five spots ahead of Clemson? No?
Do I think Alabama has been over ranked all season?
I absolutely do. I don't like their out of conference
strength to schedule. I understand wiscontent is not their fault,
(17:10):
but the other games against Western Kentucky and Mercer and
Southern Florida stop it. Okay the reality. And by the way, Wisconsin,
even then, they haven't been good for what five years now? Okay,
pretty mediocre football. I think what twenty eighteen was the
last good season they had if I remember correctly. So
(17:32):
I really don't want to hear it about even then
scheduling wiscontent At this point, I don't want to hear
it from Nick Saban, Well, we're not going to schedule
the Wisconsin's in the Notre Dames in the DA DA
DA DA do because it doesn't make sense schedule all
the best teams. You cannot have it both ways. You
cannot say that the SEC from top to bottom is
the krim de la creme and then say well, we
(17:52):
can schedule all the easy secc SEC teams, and then
you cannot also say that we're not going to schedule
tough games outside. Okay, fine, sneak a little way in there,
and then you haven't played anybody all season long, and
then you get beat And you know, I need everybody
to stop pretending that Nick Saban's Alabama squad didn't get
(18:13):
dominated by Clemson forty four to sixteen in a college
football playoff championship game. It is not about strength of
conference people. It is one hundred percent about the strength
of the team and the coach themselves. And that is
one hundred percent ninety nine point nine nine nine percent
of the time what it amounts to. Yeah, there's nuances,
(18:35):
there's intricacies of the game, but let's be honest. Football
at its core is very simple, and we are over
complicating it. That's exactly what the committee did. They over
complicated it. They ranked Alabama as high as they did.
And now I guarantee you there will be rule changes
going into next season. If not, they will be made
for this season and then be implemented the next year,
(18:58):
or made this offseason and then implement next year. It's
it's coming. They knew what they were doing. Remember the
statement from the committee. We were tasked with building the
top twenty five that's what we did. And they said
the strength of scheduled mattered and that's why they ranked
(19:18):
Alabama where they did. Calculated move Man, they think they're slick,
but they're not. This is a conspiracy theory stuff people.
This is financial business one one. This is trickle up
and trickle down economics. And I'm gonna need SEC fan
really to stop complaining. Anyways. I'm gonna need the SEC
commissioner to stop complaining. Anyways. You have three teams in
(19:41):
you have Georgia, you have Tennessee, and you have Texas.
If one of them is good enough, then they are
going to win. Same thing with Oregon. What in the
hell is Joe Klatz deal? And what is ESPN's deal.
So and So's got the easiest pass, so and So's
got the hardest path. Are these not supposed to be
the Krim de la krim that are playing in the playoffs? Look,
(20:05):
if anything, Alabama's a victim of the rules, which is
why I say it will change, and Oregon is not
the same victim of those rules. They're not. You're not
gonna convince me, Will Penn State stop it? Stop it?
What Big Games has James Franklin won years ago when
(20:30):
they beat Ohio State, and everybody complained. You know, are
so many people can plain, you know, the two lost
football team to get in, but they got blown out.
History is repeating itself. An Alabama fan is suddenly upset
that it's not favoring them. History did repeat itself this
year because Georgia they got in with their second string quarterback. Hey,
(20:50):
no problem, it's fine. You got a couple of losses. Well,
you're an SEC champion, doesn't matter. You're getting in. Suddenly
that rule's not being used anymore, but works against Florida State.
It's okay for the right, it's okay for me, but
(21:17):
not for THEE. You cannot. This is what I'm talking about.
You gotta have continuity in what you think here, and
there's no continuity. It's just adjusting the goalpost for the
SEC either way that you need it. It's legitimately what
it is. There's no ifens or butts about it. It
is exactly what that scenario is. And you will never
(21:38):
convince me otherwise. Folks. The situation is pretty simple. If
you win, you're gonna be a champion. There's no easy path,
there's no hard path. You're gonna have to win games.
Nobody diminished Organs season by ranking everybody where they did.
(22:07):
Nobody get serious, speaking of which I don't think they win.
Although I've been bad, I've been sour on Oregon all
year long. Look, they didn't really have a great start
to the season, but you could again, you could look
back at Michigan's year, right. I think Boise State is
(22:29):
severely underrated going into this playoff. I know they got
the buy. I don't think Arizona State does anything. I
think for me, the teams that probably end up meeting
that would be the best game that we'll get would
be Boise State in Oregon. I love Boise State's defense,
(22:52):
I love the run game, but I'm not sold on
their quarterback and Dylan Gabriel. Which final point here shoudor
should have been in consideration for the Heisman. But if
he should have been, then absolutely comm Acord at Syracuse
should have been right. Commiccord led the NCAA in passing yards.
He was what tied for fifth for most touchdown passes
(23:13):
in the country, had some turnover problems, little inconsistent. I
personally think that the wide receiving corps overall, you know
Gads and Pina, etc. Is one of the best in
the nation. To me, severely underrated receiving Cord Syracuse. But
I think Shador's name should have been thrown around more
than it was Comiccord's name. But again, my thing is,
(23:35):
we can't just keep making this a quarterback thing. Some
of the awards, yes to it makes sense. You've got
a Hunter with the Banneric, but not the Jim Thorpe.
It's just bananas the way that everybody thinks. And you
wonder why I hate the voting system with the CFP.
If if the awards ceremony last night didn't tell you
why we need a rules system instead of a voting system,
(23:57):
then I don't know what to tell you, kid, seriously,
But you know, Shador's name should have been thrown around,
you know, I mean, what did he do it? Fifty
seven touchdown passes and only ten interceptions over the last
two seasons. That's pretty stout. You can't not throw his
(24:18):
name in the hat. At least me personally, I would
give the heisman to gent. I just think he's way
too big of an influence. And I'm not saying that
Travis Hunter's not, but I think that if you switch places,
Boise's probably about where Colorado is right now. And I'm
(24:40):
just being honest about it. All right, Everybody, I am
Drew Duncan, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is all at Drew
Duncan Radio and wherever you're listening to the podcast, tell
you a device to play Drew Duncan where you're listening,
I am there, TikTok v r L Drew Duncan. The
real Drew Duncan get it. The r L Drew Duncan,
the real Drew Duncan was already taken it. And look, man,
(25:02):
if anybody finds that guy, tell him I'm willing to
do whatever I gotta do to get that number or
get that name for myself. AnyWho, Everybody, have a great weekend,
Stay safe, take care of yourselves.
