So this is the Portland Public Library. The Portland Public Library is the main library of the city, and is located here at 5 Monument Way. In this building over 94 staff members are here to assist people who love reading and books. The library has three branches located at Burbank Branch, Riverton Branch and Peaks Island branch. They also have a portable library. The population served by the library reaches about 66,194, meaning, the library is visited not just by residents of the city but also tourists.The library was assimilated by Ichabod Nicholas and company in the early 1800's and later on the attendant, or librarian, was James Merill. In the early years there were about 10,647 volumes of books stored in the library.
