Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, everybody, This is Chandler, and this is Chris and
I'm wolver Steve and you're listening to X Reads the podcast.
Welcome everybody to episode one nine. We are so happy
(00:22):
to have our special guest, the one and only wolver Steve.
Welcome Steve.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Hey, Hey, hey, how you're all good? Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, we're good. We are excited to talk about Wolverine.
I imagine you're here to talk about Wolverine.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
I do like to talk about Wolverine twenty four seven.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yeah, excellent, good, because we are definitely in the Wolverine mood.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Up in here.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
All of us have seen the incredible the monumental film
that was just released by Marvel Studios, which was Wolverine
and Deadpool. What a masterpiece. We're going to get into
a deep discussion about that, about your experience with the
premiere in the UK, and we're going to cover a
really awesome issue where we dive back into our long
(01:06):
boxes and pull out Wolverine number one forty five. This
is where Wolverine gets his animantium skeleton back.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yees then and still is now.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yes, And my favorite Freudian slip ever of yours is
Chris is it's actually the Deadpool and Wolverine movie, but
we all know it's the Wolverine.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I noticed it, but look you keep it that way.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah, now, listeners, you can't see this podcast, but we
are talking to Steve and he is in his infamous
wolver room, which is adorned by action figures, are collectible signatures, statues,
and if you go to his Instagram which is at
wolver Steve, you can see all sorts of photos of
(01:52):
it because he post photos of it all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I want to know what your most favorite prized Worne
collectibles are?
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Do you want to tell me to tell you this?
This second? I can show you guys, obviously because you
can see me. But that's my favorite.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
That post, yeah, seems to be a movie poster of
the Wolverine, which was I guess in mid mid two
thousands film. I can't remember when it came out.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
It was twenty thirteen and it was it was actually
twenty sixth of July again by some Bazarka incidents, much
like depul and Wolverine was this year just now. But
this particular poster is from the UK premiere of it,
and that's signed by all the casts and Stan Lee Wow.
(02:38):
And it's got a hologram certificate with it. It's got
my ticket from the event and the letter of authenticity
and my invite all framed up by somebody very professional
over here for me, and I absolutely love it. It's
just a very rare pace. There's fifty in the world.
I've got number twenty seven. I do post pits to
(02:58):
that every so often because I just adore it as
much as I love everything I've got. That's my favorite thing.
And Hugh Jackman's signature is a well crafted, time taken
one to describe out properly. There, you guys can see, Yes,
I love it.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
That is so absolutely beautiful. You've been a Wolverine fan
for you know, the majority of your life. But I
want to know when was the first time you came
across Wolverine? Why did you fall in love with him?
What about Wolverine resonated with you so much over the years.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
I'll tell you what first led me to it and
then into that. I walked up the road with my
twin sister when we were both ten, to a little newsagent's,
the little paper shop here, and it was very rare
that any American comics there American to me, US comics
were on sale and in this news agent's randomly they
(03:53):
had some, and I loved Ninja, Turtles, Master Universe, Ghostbusters,
all that. Back then, I was always into the color
yellow head having the yellow hat on now even and
I saw this guy. It was Wolverine number seventy three.
I believe he's find some Wolves on the cover and
(04:14):
I saw it and I thought, ah, he looks cool.
I'm going to have that. I bought it and I
read it and I thought, wow, boy is E cool.
And it led me then on this epic adventure for
the last thirty four years buying anything and everything Wolverine,
including you know, trying to get all the backlogs at
the comics and everything else, the back issues, which pretty
(04:34):
much I have done over the years that you know,
I've been a very faithful, obsessive fan. But it ultimately
because he was wearing yellow, and boy did I relate
to the character more and more as an impressionable team,
you know, the lone wolf. That's what I always liked
about him back then in the nineties. And then we
are like the amazing cartoon of course, the X Men,
(04:57):
the animated series, so that just you know, kept my
love growing even more very rapidly back then.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yes, voiced by the incredible Cal Dodd, who we've had
on our podcast in the past. Believe it's around the eighties,
episodes eighty one or eighty two, but either way, go
back listeners if you want to hear Cal Dodd the
voice of Wolverine recount Wolverine Number one by Chris Clare
(05:25):
Martin Frank Miller, you can go back and listen to that.
But have you had a chance to meet Cal in person?
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yes? I have, Yes, I was very pleased to meet
him two years ago now and he was equally as
somewhow how in all with me as I was with him.
But you know, God knows why. It just the fact
he knows I'm a bit of a big fun I suppose.
But yeah, he was very gracious, very fun, wouldn't take
any money off me for photos autographs. I think you
(05:51):
guys again can see there's a picture of him and
I there, and then he gave me a nice signed
photo of the animated Wolverine picture as well. You know,
I love that's that's very prized possession of mine as well.
He was so nice. Well, yeah, we chatted for endless
hours that day. I kept I kept spending most of
(06:12):
the day there to be honest on the stand with
them all, even though there was lots of other cast
members there. I was happy with Cal and his good lady.
And even last year when my friend was at New
York Comic Gun, a friend from over here, Karl, was there,
so she went over to him saying, no, you should
meet my mate Steve, and he said, oh, I know
(06:34):
Steve wolver Steve you mean then did me a nice
voice video message then, So that was fantastic, you know,
all those years later it was nicely.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Remembered me amazing. Well, we just did a wonderful weekend
of Cindy Who Comecan with Cal and hosted a panel
with him and his fellow cast meets. So we we
love Cal. But I really want to note about the
did Poort and Wolverine screening that you until sure sure
(07:02):
what it was like? How did you get the invite?
All the details?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
How did I get the invite? Well, on the twenty
seventh of September twenty twenty two, a certain Hugh Jackman
announced on that little snippet walking up the stairs with
Ryan Reynolds he was going to play Wolverine again. Now
that day was my birthday, and on that day I
was just immensely and mensely excited instantly, and I thought,
(07:29):
I know there's going to be a premiere for this
somewhere on the way. I want to be invited instantly.
Having met Hugh back in twenty when was that twenty seventeen,
I thought I need to meet him again. I I'd
decided that was my mission. Boy, did I put up
a mission, as you guys know. So I started to
(07:51):
do a social media countdown for Dead Bull and Wolverine
that wasn't even cold that at the time, and I
posted every single day wolver steves Countdown hashtag wolver Steve's
Countdown with any snippet, info, rumor and eventually decent proper pictures.
Of course, when it got its name, what was going
(08:14):
on in it? On and on and on, and that
countdown went up and down in times because it got's
initial release date. Then it got pulled, sorry, pushed right
back because of the strikes that were going on with
the writers and actors supporting them. So my countdown got
epically longer, and bizarrely, six hundred and sixty six days
(08:42):
later was the very final day of Dead Countdown when
the movie came out. But I feel very justified in
and very honored. Therefore, an invite from Marvel pr Company
on behalf of Marvel Studios would love to invite you, Wilvers,
Steve too our UK fan event came through by your Instagram,
(09:05):
and boy was that an adrenaline rush. I was like, yeah,
mission accomplished. Incredible, incredible. I say, I felt justified. I've
put some serious effort into earning that, in my opinion,
and I've fully, fully campaigned for this movie to be
as epic as it is from that day twenty seventh
(09:25):
September twenty twenty two to the bitter end and I'm
still raving about it now it's out. Yeah, that's how
I got there. Amazing.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, that's such dedication. I love that because you know
what I love about Marvel is that they they do
care about fans. I feel or they pay attention to fans.
There's so many fans it's hard for them to pay
attention to us all, but they will pop into your
dms and they will, you know, invite things. I've been
very fortunate Chris and I've been able to go to
(09:57):
some of the premieres that have been in Los Angeles
and and it's just wonderful to be recognized and they
see the passion that goes into it. So for people
that are wondering how do you do it? I want
to be a part of it. It's just like you
got to be consistent and passionate and show that you
are dedicated to their properties. And sometimes you'll get the
(10:18):
little fairy that comes and visits you and be like
you are granted an invite.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah, you're exactly right. It's ultimately, if I didn't get invited,
I'd still be happy. I'd still love it. I'd still
carry on doing the posting that I've been doing, because
that's all I bang on about anyway on social media.
But it's just really, really nice when you are rewarded
for your love and fandom and the nicest possible ways.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
So what was it like? Tell us about the event?
Who'd you meet?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Full on adrenaline rush? Who did I meet? Well? I
met the lovely miss Wendy Jacobson, one of the executive producers.
I met the living legend Emma Curran. Wow, boy were
they nice?
Speaker 1 (11:07):
You know?
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Fantastic. You know. I stood there with them and we
had a nice little chat and I took about five
pictures that you do, you know, rapid selfies, and I said,
oh god, I hate my teeth. You know, we've all
got a book tooth in the real world. They went,
you've got you've got a lovely smile. Let's do this.
So we did both like a model pose with our
mouth shut. So I've got a lovely, lovely selfie with
(11:31):
you know, with them, and I adore it. And everybody's
already said, oh, why weren't they smiling? And I just
look at it and I know why. That's the story.
While fantastic. Sean Levy was the first one I met
Sean Levy. I believe some people say it. I still
don't know, even though I've met him, and he was fantastic.
He had a proper good laugh with me because bizarrely,
(11:53):
all I had to sign was a photo of me
and Hugh Jackman, because I took that from when I
was very lucky enough to who before, because of determined
I was going to get it signed this time. And
he said, I said, oh, I've only got a picture
of me and Hugh to sign. He said, I don't
want to say it's on video, it's on my Instagram.
He said, well, that thing's inappropriate. And then I made
(12:15):
him sign it on the back, which was more bizarre
because I didn't want it ruining in that sense. But yeah,
he was a lovely, lovely man, very very funny, very
clever man. Of course, there was some guy called Ryan Reynolds.
I don't know if you've heard of.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Him, strange, I've never heard of him.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Yeah, yeah, I hadn't. I believe that. I believe he's
in a film that's just come out, but you know,
with Wolverine. But yeah, he was fantastic. What amazed me
was how much time they afforded us on the day
there and then do you know what I mean? There
was hordes and hordes of people in these fan pens
that we were in. I was in the very first one,
(12:54):
and when Hugh and Ryan were having their breast photo
done in front of of the big you know, the
hearted hands exit, Hugh looked over at me and pointed
and grinned and that if that was all I got
that day, that was enough. But yeah, you know, half
an hour or so later, once they've done their other stuff.
They walked around every single fan and gave everybody minutes
(13:16):
of their very precious, valuable time, and that always always
resonates with me. You know, there's no rush in the
you know that they were there for the fans like
the fans were there for them. And Ryan Reynolds himself, Yeah, fantastic,
very funny man. It's still now. It buzzes through my
brain what I was saying to these people at the time,
because for me, even though they did give us time,
(13:39):
it was that adrenaline rush. But we had a few
amusing words. I recall that much. And again it was
mostly about me saying Wolverine's going to kick his ass,
and I was kind of right, yeah, yeah. And then
one and only living legend, the icon, Hugh Jackman himself,
again amazing his hand. I apologize for tagging him so
(14:02):
much on social media all the time. He said, it's
oh game, and then started laughing and he signed my
photo that I mentioned and he did remember me, which
was very very epic because he meets a million me.
I think, you know a million folk like me, although
there is only one Wolveste of course. But yeah, no,
(14:26):
really really amazing experience. And again we had a little
chuckle and then off he went, speaking with the other
fans around me while I screamed like a little girl
for the next two hours. Yeah, I loved it. I
really did. And then we got to go into the
screening and the cast and crew. There was a few
(14:49):
other people there that we didn't get to me, but
you know, like Rob Delaney. For whatever reason, Rob was busy,
he walked past us, let's say, but I met some
other UK celebrities. I don't know if you guys have
heard of Keith Lemon, a character, but it's a very
famous UK comedian and who's done programs like Celebrity Juice
(15:12):
through the Keyhole and big UK shows. So he was
there just as a fan, as a celebrity guest if
you like, among numerous others. So I was very chused
to meet him as well. And likewise he was equally
as just to meet us for some reason, because he's
just a big Marble fan and we were there in
for cosplay. Martin Pemp was there DJing Martin Kemp of
(15:35):
Spandau Ballet, so he was DJing on stage, which was
full on eighties cringe but amazing, very kindly got given
lots of brew Dog the Bull Wolverine ip A. We
smashed a few tins of that together, me and my
Deadpool buddy Parker Paul that was with me at the time,
(15:58):
and we watched Martin kem to his stuff, which was
so amusing. And yeah, then the you know, the casting
crew that were there came out on stage and little
Peggy dog.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Pall ah really dog Pool game.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah yeah, boy, not inciting things to tell you about
Dogfall going forward. So you'll see me with dog Pool
lots soon on my social media put it that way, agreed. Yeah,
Somewhere along the way, because of my mission going on
a little tangent here, dog pools owner's mother followed me
(16:37):
on my social media's because I seem to have more
info than them on the movie, even though they're dogs
in the movie. So they all followed me, and I've
befriended them ultimately and we helped each other out along
the way with information and become good mates with them.
And after this fan event that we're talking on, we
all went out and got absolutely slaughtered in a very good, fun,
(17:00):
alcoholic way to celebrate our epic day because they were
there also, of course, at the time event. So yeah,
but going forward, we've got some fun events going to
happen together with me and my buddy as Dead Bool,
MIAs Wolverine and the actual Peggy aka Doug Ball.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Yeah, yes, I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Good good stuff. Good of me too, me too, Just
going to continue the adventure that the roller coaster the
July twenty four was for me. But back to the event. Yeah,
we saw the first thirty five minutes then, and I've
never grinned so much at just pure, pure amazing comic
book accuracy entertainment. The only thing they cut out of
(17:48):
it was the caval ren aka spoiler without explaining what
that is, you guys, I'm sure, no what's but yeah,
that's the only bit they cut out of that thirty
five minutes. But it's just pure fun, pure fun. Love it.
I think Ryan Reynolds has said before he's very aware
(18:12):
of the fans and the fans generating the the you know,
the attraction to get Dead all up and off the
ground with his leaks. Let's say back then, So I
love that he's done here and you you together are
that have done these fan events globally to celebrate it
and to appreciate the fans. It really is anything and
everything to people like me.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Incredible. Wow. Well, let's talk about the movie.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Yeah, you know what, everybody, mirror were miror morning, Morning, Morning.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
All.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
We are about to do a big giant deep dive
spoiler talk. So if you haven't seen the movie yet,
just be sure to fast forward about five or ten
minutes where we're going to pick right back up and
get into our recap of a comic vintage issue of
Renomber forty five. But in the meantime, if you have
seen the movie, let's talk all about it. What was
(19:08):
your review? Thumbs up thumbs down ten ten being the
best wolver give it to us.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Yes, it's a full on weapon x ten with all
this amazing merch that endlessly keeps coming out. Ten for me,
absolutely incredible. Just like I say, from seeing that first
thirty five minutes even I thought, boy, am I going
to love this? And we didn't really get much Wolverine
in that first thirty five bar Thos amazing, amazing time
(19:40):
variants of course looking for his Wolverine. Wow, boy did
I not expect those? Did you?
Speaker 4 (19:48):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I did not at all. Well, I've heard rumor you know,
obviously we saw the patch tease, and I've heard rumor
that a bunch of different actors were going to play
Wolverine variants, but of course we only got one actor,
as you said, the Cavaline or Harry Cavill, who appears
a Wolverine.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Yes, yeah, yeah, it's just and bloody hell. Did he
look good?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (20:16):
And you know and the reload fist fist pumps nicked in.
You know, did you notice that that you must have done?
That was fantastic, just from you know, the mission impossible,
this reload and his clause coming out. I thought that
was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
He got the edge of apocalypse. It was fun to
see the age of Apocalypse.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
What I didn't expect at all, the age of apocalypse,
you know, and it looked cool, he really did. I
love how we just start pummeling with you know, with
his stump, with the clause. It's fantastic. I didn't expect
the John Burne what his Uncanny X Men two five
(21:00):
cover the crucified.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Oh yes, yeah, yeah by Mark Silvestri.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Did not expect that, that's right. Yeah, wow, it what
a scene. It looked fantastic. I've got that tattooed on
my back.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Oh wow. I brought that cover to Comic Con from
Marsivestry to say, because I knew he was going to
be a comic Con. I had not seen the movie yet.
I saw it the first night of Comic Con, and
then just coincidentally, I had the cover. So I brought
it to Mark on Saturday or whatever that weekend and
I slid it in front of him and he goes, oh,
have you seen Dead Pull and Wolverine. I was like, yes,
(21:34):
I have. He's just like he's like, yes, this cover
is important or whatever as he was signing it.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
So wow, that's excellent, excellent it. It is an epic
cover and amazing art. Like you say, by Mark, it's fantastic.
I did not expect that to be in the movie
at all. Patch Like you say, we knew from one
of the trailers, and everybody kept saying it was going
to be Daniel Radcliffe over in England. But I was
(22:01):
very confident it wasn't and I'm pleased it wasn't right.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
And then just for clarity, everybody, we're talking about cover
number two, five one, two fifty one.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
I was I was right with two. That's good. Yeah,
patch that patch scene even he looks bad ass Jackman
does and again Deeple just gets stabbed away, doesn't he
go away? Full on amusement that with with Huey Lewis
and the news playing all the way as well. Fantastic, Yeah,
(22:33):
absolutely bloody, brilliant and of course comic book accurate. Wolverine
the Little One. I thought they might go there just
for a bit of amusement, and obviously they did that.
That was something I had predicted, but yeah, it hit
hit right on the on the nose. I thought it
was fantastic. That one thing I also thought we would
(22:56):
say is Wolverine versus Hulk. That's the John Burn But
I know I was right with john Burn in my
brain somewhere. Obviously it's that kind of design there, Ulk
versus Wolverine. And that brown suit. What did you guys
think of that?
Speaker 1 (23:11):
You know, it's so fast I could barely pay attention.
But I've seen screenshots of it since that people have
put online, and it's gorgeous, and it's one of those
like when the MCU get a chance to make a
super suit on an actual person, you know, they have
to make edits and they have to make it their
own way, and it's absolutely gorgeous. I hope people, you
know cosplayers that one day.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah, it looks fantastic. I do have a town of
Brown suit of my own that I've made some years back,
but mine's not quite as accurate as that. It's kind
of a little missimash of that of a Tiger's right
one in a sense, but still the colors of tan
and brown. So I might bring it out of retirement soon.
We have a huge I think it's Europe's biggest steampunk
(23:54):
event here in Lincoln where I live, happening soon, and
that last time I took my brown through that was
for that, because it blends in brilliantly with all the
amazing steampunk you know, cosplayers if you like out there.
So I'll be out of retirement in the brown for
that very shortly, just because I can.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Yeah, I can't wait to see it.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Yeah, Yeah, something different.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
So Deadpool had as a spoiler of many variants within
this movie, which I loved to see, and we also,
as you mentioned, we got to see different variants of Wolverine.
But what's one of your favorite, most beloved, chairished variants
in your heart? You know from the comic books or
from movies, television or whatever that you didn't see in
(24:39):
the film that you wish you did of Wolverine.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Of course, that's a very good question. I don't know,
because it proper took me away what we saw. You know,
it surprised me immensely. I'm surprised in a sense we
didn't get a Samurai one, but the Wolverine, of course,
was very much based around that and the very famous
(25:03):
limited Wolverine one to four. But I'm still surprised they
didn't put something like that in it. I'm staring around
my room now thinking whatever, what would I have liked
to have seen? But I don't know. It just feels
like the perfect movie for me. For it's called Dimple
and Wolverine. But I've said many times already since seeing it,
(25:25):
Wolverine steals the movie for me, he really does. And
I do feel poorly fully, you know, fan serviced by
the variance that we saw there. I can't think of
any anymore I'd love to see out the one. I
love Henry cavill in it, but I would have loved
(25:45):
that also to have been Hugh Jackman, just because I'm
such a Jackman. As Wolverine fan, you know what I mean.
The only other thing I guess we didn't quite get
was another mask version because I of Buvy mask. But
I think he looks fantastic in it.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah. Absolutely. Speaking of the mask, I will say when
that moment finally comes in the movie and you know,
and he puts that mask on as they're about to
flight all the Deadpool variants. I'm not like a very
like loud person, but I screamed in the movie theater.
I was like, all of a sudden, that little fanboy
(26:25):
just starts like erupting out of you, and you're like,
oh my god, this is amazing, and so I love
that that the mask of moment brilliant.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Good on you. Yeah, me too, you can imagine me.
Then I was I was already grinning here to it,
and my jaw was hurting. And then it was it was.
It was getting on, wasn't it in the film. By
that point, I was thinking, they've got to do it,
They've got to do it. I really thought you'd have
had it on fighting the Hulk. That's when I fully
thought we'd see it with some sort of logic for
(26:55):
it being there, as I hadn't no protection or whatever.
But boy, when it happened, it was like I was
like full on excited. God knows what the people near
me thought in the cinema. They think if they didn't
know I was a fan by then they soon did after.
But it's just fantastic. I can't express enough how much
(27:15):
I love that that that's my moment for the whole movie.
It's it's that way he draws it out from nowhere
like in the cartoons, like in the comics, and then
it's suddenly like it's like a hood, but then it's
a you know, a solid mask once it's on and
it's got the white eyes, and I it's here, looks incredible.
(27:36):
Here's my huge cardboard cut out here. It's just perfect
for me. I think he looks fantastic. I really do.
I can't stress enough. I'm so desperate. As I mentioned
briefly before, we came on to post pictures of it,
because most of the world is but me being me.
I try not to spoil it because my following's gone
(27:57):
mental since this film's come out, so I try not
to spoil it for others who maybe haven't seen it yet.
But as soon as Hugh Jackman's posted it. Boy am
I posting it and people will be getting bored and
me posting it because it's my favorite bit of the
whole movie. But that bit, that walk, the walk out
to Madonna, that epic, epic fight then against the Deadpool
(28:18):
corpse just incredible. That's pure movie magic for me, pure centema.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
God, completely, Chris, do you have a favorite moment?
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Oh, my gosh, My favorite moment of the Deadpool and
Wolverine movie, got it write was the cameo. The cameos
were out of control. They brought everybody back, not everybody,
but a lot of people back that I did not expect.
And they had a huge X Men surprise, which you know,
(28:48):
led me greening ear to ear. And that is the
fact that they brought in Channing Tatum to play Gambit
and there was people, there was younger people in the
audience didn't know what was going on and they were
just like, what is Channing? Was it he magic bike
or whatever? Why is he here?
Speaker 1 (29:07):
You know?
Speaker 3 (29:08):
But this actually goes back to way back when when
they wanted to make a Gambit movie. Maybe you can
give us a little bit of a history on that
wolver Steve if you recall.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Yeah, yeah, I do recall. It was bizarre casting if
you asked me. Yeah, funny guy, good actor, magic Mike indeed,
But and long term fan of Gambit, I understand as well.
I was a big fan of how Taylor kitch it
looks for Gambit Inexpan Origins Wolverine. However, he seemed to
(29:42):
lose his accent halfway through, but that's probably not necessarily
his fault. I thought he was great and could have
been even better with the right back into the Gambit.
But yeah, Channing Tatum, Wow, he got cast. It kept
going into production, hell didn't it? He fell through And
(30:02):
I'd heard rumor again like like you gents, that that
he was gonna, you know, technically appear in this, but
I thought they're never gonna do it. And that moment
when he walked out, you know, just you saw the
spinning card first. Wow. Yeah, and he looked bloody brilliant
in fairness to him.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Yeah, they did a great design on that look. I
will say that scene, of course, is I can't like
of all those characters walking out because we already had
a big tease about Jennifer Garner. Yeah, he kind of
knew she was coming back as Electra, and I know
people love that. I was shocked to see Wesley Snipes
(30:40):
come back as Blade. I was like literally gasped, because
you just like you forget that those movies, those Blade
movies were the first or like the early early MCU
quote unquote films, and so it's like, I love those
Blade films. So to see him walk out as Blade,
I just was so happy. I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
This movie, the cameos that are everybody that's involved in it,
it's due to Ryan Reynolds, his connections and his friendships.
He's the one that you know, called up Wesley Snipes
and he said, hey, you know, I know we didn't
get along in the movie back then we were filming,
but in this thing, now, why don't you come on board?
(31:22):
And Wesy was like, you know what, yeah, I'm going
to do it. And he was able to do that
with a lot of the other people in the cast,
just even like Chris Evans. You know, they convinced Chris
Evans to come back. Specifically, one of the requests was
he had to have the tag seen at the end
in it. That was one requirement they pitched it. It
(31:44):
was like look, you don't have to come back as
camp America, because that's that's kind of a heavy flag
to carry, you know, getting into that superhero shape and everything.
And they and they said, why don't you be spoiler?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Tell us who was.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Arge? I you know, I think like Ryan Reynolds, doing
cameos in other people's films, getting that friendship from the
other actors over the years really made everything to come
together and all the dots connect to get all these
cameos in there.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
You know what I kind of am hoping is that
Daphne Keane who returns as Laura Kenney or X twenty three.
I'm really hoping that they utilize her because they left
her in a spot where she could be utilized more.
And I watching her do her action scenes again because
she was so fierce as a little girl and now
as a young woman she still is so fierce, and
(32:39):
I was like, oh my god, I want to see
her as Laura more. Like I don't want to see
anybody else play this character. I just want to. I
want her to continue. Maybe they could be a Hue
and Daphney movie again.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
But one agree with everything you said there. I don't
want to see Hugh Jackman recast. I know he's getting
on on we all, but I don't want to see
it for decades and utilizing Daphnie Keene as you say,
they could definitely do it together, but an amount of
time at least for a movie, and it could be
(33:13):
bloody incredible. They've got that amazing on screen presence and
relationship together. The characters obviously go well together perfectly. We've
all read the latest books over, you know, the last
couple of years with them both. I'm sure, yeah, I'd
be all for that. She deserves more as well, for
being so brilliant in this and indeed in Logan originally
(33:36):
as that little girl. Yeah, I'm all for that. Let's
get them both in yellow. Let's let's yeah, absolutely, that
be so cool.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
And my thing is also, like I feel like this
is so controversial, is I feel like she could take
over the Wolverine mantle as she does in comics, and
we don't need another Wolverine, Like we could just have
Hugh do one more coming in this Wolverine giving event
over and then Daphne can continue as Wolverine and we
don't need another male version of him, at least for
(34:05):
a while. And yeah, and I feel like she can
hold it. You know, she's got that ferocity and that
presence that I feel like can really carry and I
and I love the character of Laura, so I you know,
I'm all about it.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
And she survives great, yeah, yeah, you know she survives
at the end, right.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
She's yeah, she's at the table.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
By the way, we also might get Channing Tatum as
Gambit back, because you know, our thoughts are like, okay,
a lot of them died over in the void. They
didn't make it through the portal. But Kevin Faigi let
a little easter egg slip. I I actually saw Wolverine
a dead poll at screening at USC with Lenor's Anne
(34:51):
aka Rogue, and he did a brilliant Q and A afterwards,
very inspiring to the film students. But the thing that
I get doubt about was the easter egg he revealed
at the very end. They're in the TVA and there's
a bunch of screens and on the left you don't
even notice it because you're looking at on the right
of what's happening in the in the storyline. On the
(35:13):
left you see a small screen of Gambit and if
you zoom in on the eyeball you see the reflection
of the slingering right. Gambit made it out, y'all. He's
a last Wow he again, I.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Hope we do. I really do feel he made He
took his opportunity finally in this and the fight scenes
with him are incredible. That's full on again, like like
X Men ninety seven, that's full on amazing. Gambit he
just looks brilliant and everything he does, but the accent
and the humor and the dialogue. Obviously Deadpool takes the
(35:53):
p out of him for that, but it was just brilliant.
He proper stole every scene he was in and then
just got Deadpool's wit around it and then Wolverine's little
quips at the end of it all, which just made
that whole scene with those those cameos in perfect. It
really was brilliant.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
A quick question for you, of all the dead Pool variants,
and you can't choose dog Pool because I know you're
biased about that. I love dog Pool. That would be
my favorite. So besides dog Pool, who's your favorite Deadpool variant?
Speaker 2 (36:26):
Well, certainly not nice Pool. He was he was there
just to just to have his guns taken really, you
gotta say Ladypool, haven't you. You've got to you know,
we all know who plays her now. I'm sure you
read the credits like I did. But yeah, just cool.
She stands out differently, doesn't she. There was a lot
(36:48):
there as well. Of course, Headpool was just random, but
I fully expected that to be you know, X Men Origins, Wolverine,
Dudpool as I call him. You know, I've fully expected
that to be him, so I wonder why they were
of that, but yeah, he was there, but no, Lady
(37:09):
dead Ball. Otherwise, she's cool, She looks cool. She'sous, isn't
She takes no prisoners.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Indeed, what about you? What was your favorite variant Deadpool variant?
Speaker 1 (37:21):
I mean I like the Western Gunslinger version. Yeah, yeah,
I would.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Say it was all about baby dead Ball, baby Paul. Hilarious.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
I picked up the one of the new Fune Co
pops today and that of Wolverine, and for some reason,
it's got the little baby Paul with her.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
So Wolverine is famous for his team ups, and I
would say that dead Pool and Wolverine was a very
very successful team up for Marvel and Disney, and you know,
the whole shebang. So I want to know your pitch
to Hollywood if they were to do the next Wolverine
team up movie, who should it be with? What should happen?
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Oh? Well, I've said it already, haven't I? Laura X
twenty three, Let's have then to go in against everybody.
Let's let's have have I don't know, the X Men
taken over by somebody or or turned against them. Let's
do it that way, so we get lots of X
Men characters in it as well, not just the Brotherhood.
(38:23):
Let's let's get everybody in there, because you know, I
want to see a Wolverine versus Cyclops like the many
comics that that could be absolutely spectacular on the big screen,
you know, and let's do it. Let's have Team Wolverine
versus the World. Let's bring that on. That's what I'd
call it.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Let's do it.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
I want to see Wolverine and Jeff the Shark. Yeah,
I want to highly adventure of just slapstick comedy, and
you know, Shark is amazing.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
So one of my favorite Wolverine team ups because this
is the era where I was kind of also getting
into comics and same with you. Steve is in that
Wolverine era. He teams up with Jubilee a lot, and
there's a big Jubilee arc where him and Jubilee are together,
and I love their dichotomy and their friendship and how
they balance each other out. And so I would love
(39:16):
a Wolverine and Jubilee.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
That's a really good shout. You're right. Of course, those
comics that I mentioned that I started with the seventy
you know, volume two, number seventy three, blah blah blah.
That's Wolverine and Jubilee together. Then those issues, and there's
so much more that they've done in the cartoons as
well over the years. So you're right. They they seem
to have missed that and replaced it with Rogue, didn't
(39:39):
they in the early X Men movie did?
Speaker 1 (39:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
And what what has Kitty Pride done over the years
as well? Let Wolverine and Kitty Pride together are fantastic?
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, Well, especially the mini arc that they in the
Wolverine Kitty Pride mini series Chris and I covered with Claremont.
It was an amazing story. Like if they put that
on screen, oh my god, I would love to watch that.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Yeah, Chris Clairement, Wow, what a nice man he is.
Yeah again, I spent ages with him at a comic
con here. You guys have obviously met him from what
you've said there. He was a really, really nice gentleman
and thoroughly enjoyed listening to us as much as we
did him. Really nice. Yeah, Some of these people that
(40:23):
are involved in these, you know, creations for comics, cartoons, movies,
they really are genuine, genuine nice people and ultimately fans themselves,
and that's what makes it so special when their creations
come to life and we all love it more. I
love it.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
It's great, indeed, and I kind of feel like doing
a shameless plug y'all, because why not. Chris is going
to be at the Unkenny Experience this year at the
end of September, and you can be in person at
our immersive XP fan convention. Be sure to visit the
Unkenny Experience dot com and check out all the details.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Perfect time and love it. Good for you.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Okay, everybody, make sure to go see it Deadpool and Wouverine.
It's in movie theaters right now. You're gonna want to
see it in forty FX and IMAX and the biggest
screens and see it again and again. Because every time
you see it, you're gonna laugh in a new way
because you will discover something new to enjoy about it.
So let's get into the issue that we're covering, y'all.
(41:24):
Wolver Steve, you brought us something fun, something cool, something interesting,
and very poignant for Wolverine's storyline, and it is when
Wolverine gets his animantium skelet him back.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Definitely, it was an iconic moment to me back then. Yeah,
stuck with me all those years. Still for me, the
best Wolverine comic cover ever.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
So let's set the era of when this came out.
This comic book was published December one of nineteen ninety nine.
And what was the top movie back then, Champ?
Speaker 1 (42:00):
It was Toy Story two.
Speaker 3 (42:03):
Oh Yes, when Woody is stolen by a toy collector,
Buzz and his friends set out on a rescue mission
to save Woody before he becomes a museum toy property
with his roundup game, Yes, he prospector and bullseye Ah.
Any of y'all see this one?
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Yes, yes, I did back then. Certainly, I'm not saying
it much since same.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
So, like you are such a big fan of a
marine that you named your son Logan.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
That's right, Yeah, it does every minute of it.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
But does Logan watch the Toy Story franchise.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
He has back then when he was younger. You know,
he's nearly fifteen now, so he's more into things like GTA.
We all had a moment of watching all all of
the Toy Stories that they're good movies, aren't they? Ultimately?
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Yeah, they're very feel good and you know, I'm always
beaming with joy afterwards. So let's see what was the
song back in December one of nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Well, the top song was Smooth by Santana featuring Rob Thomas.
Speaker 3 (43:09):
Oh this is like cause you'll so smooth?
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Ye give me your heart, make it real or else
forget about it much, boys, It's nice.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Yeah, that song was. It felt like it was never one,
forever forever, and it never went away, and every time
you hear it it's still as good as like the
first few times you hear it. I never got bored
of it.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
That's a quarter of a century ago.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
Oh my god, it go a while.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Oh wow, oh crazy, a long time ago.
Speaker 1 (43:48):
That is smooth.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
All right, So let's do this issue. We'll were we
number one forty five, published December first, nineteen eighty nine.
This was written by Eric Larsen and the art was.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
By Lionel Francis.
Speaker 3 (44:01):
You yes, yes, And what do we have on the cover?
Speaker 1 (44:06):
Oh, we have Steve, one of Ste's favorite covers. We
have Wolverine claws in front of his face Adamantium shining bright.
He is currently holding up a graded comic of this Oh,
with a shining Adamantium foil. I see, and it says
still the best at what he does.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
That's why I love it that tagline. You know, for
years Wolverine was unbeatable to me as that impressionable kid
growing up, and they tore him to bits in every
sense in Fatal Attractions, and he went off on a
bizarre tale, didn't he, And and you know, proper mutated
out of his normal looks and that from that Fatal
(44:49):
Attraction story onwards. But finally this moment was when he
became still the best at what he does once more.
I've got another Grady one actually as well, which has
got the gold clause. I'm by Frans as you as well, with.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
Fantastic only that is like the holy Grail of variant
covers right there.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
For this issue. Apparently there's some white cord ones which
were not colored in you know, silvered or gold as
a as a printing error out there. I've never seen
one to buy, but every time I've seen them on
the internet, you know, it just looks like a misprinted cover.
(45:37):
But yeah, well we'll see, we'll see if anyone comes
up to buy. I might end up having to have
it just because I have it tattooed as well. It's
on the floor.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
Oh yes, I love the dedication.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Yes, thank you. It's such a good book.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
It is a good bug. Well, let's get into the story,
just you know, being conscious of time. I'm going to
try to go through the story pretty quickly, but it's
a giant size issue. There's a lot to cover, and
we're going to jump into it. So the first couple
pages are all about kind of this era of time
(46:18):
where the Scrolls have kidnapped Wolverine and replaced him with
a scroll variant, and it kind of goes through this
catchup of like, hey, you've got to read this issue
and this issue and this issue and this issue, and
I feel like you need to have read tons of
comics in order to be caught up with what's going
on in this story?
Speaker 3 (46:37):
Yeah, but on the short version of it in the recap,
we see that this scroll was embedded within the X Men,
and he totally gas lit all of them into believing
that Professor X was a crazy, cuckoo nut job, you know,
because he was the only one that was remembering, you know,
Vainke fissions from the past and his dreams. Nightmare is like, hey, y'all,
(46:58):
something's not right and I sort of remember stuff, and
Scrawl is like, nah, you crazy, and then it just
broke the team apart. Eventually, it got so bad with
the gas light.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
It got so bad that they were eventually confronted with
this version of Wolverine called Death, which we're going to
be introduced in a bit, and Death removes his hood
and we see that it is Wolverine, So what's going on?
So we learned that that was a scroll the whole time,
the real Wolverine Reen has been kidnapped, disappeared, and now
(47:35):
transformed into this new Death character, and all the X
Men are kind of deciding what they're what are they
going to do about it? Like we we've got these
two logans, we've got the one that's been with us,
which we know now is a scroll, and we've got
this now brainwashed killer version named Death, and we get
this awesome splash page of the death look. And speaking
of to your question earlier, Chris, what variant of Wolverine
(47:55):
is not in the movie. This would have been awesome
to see.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, good, good shout. Actually again, I have
that tattooed on my back that Wolverine has Death because
that splash page you mentioned, he looks fantastic. It's just
an unexpected variant of Wolverine in every sense, you know,
to be the big bad villain as such. Any the
(48:19):
artworks just incredible. You know, whoever hasn't seen this book
by now out there go and see it. I think
it's brilliant, gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (48:27):
Well, he is told by a person in a fez
hat who we later learned as Apocalypse, but he just
looks like a kind of a lackey who basically is like, hey,
you need to go out and kill the Hulk.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
How do we shadow King? For like half a second?
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Half a second was because yeah, they're definitely shadow King
has had that look before in the past.
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Yeah, it's the first thing isn't it.
Speaker 1 (48:51):
Yeah, I think that might have been the fake out,
is that they're trying to make people think that it
was Shadow King.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
But yeah, spoiler, it's definitely an who as we all
know now.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
Yeah, yes, But anyways, we cut back to the past
when the Scrolls have kidnapped Wolverine. They drag him in
front of Apocalypse. He smells him, he knows exactly who
he is, and he's like, what do you want from me?
And we keep jumping back and forth in time. We're
in the present Wolverine as Death attacking the Hulk, and
(49:23):
the past Wolverine kidnapped by the Scrolls in front of Apocalypse,
so we're jumping to the present. We see Wolverine riding
one of those scary looking horse mechanical creature things that
the horsemen ride, terrifying creatures, and he is looking for
the Hulk. Ooh.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
We get this beautiful splash page of the Hulk, and
this is probably one of my favorite art pieces that
I've seen, because look at his face. It's just so ferocious.
You got that evil, menacing rage in his eyes, and
he's just jumping right out of the page right at you.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
Mm hmm. Yeah, and Hulk. You know, he's one of
those creatures where it's like he's so dangerous, but he
just wants to be left alone, and nobody leaves him alone,
and so they just go and poke at him and
make him even more angry, and then he becomes more
of a beast and the poor guy just wants to
live in the woods alone.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
Yeah, yeah, you're right there. And then I'm lucky for him.
Apocalypse Unleaf's death on him.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
But oh yeah, Wolverine lands on Hulk with a throck
and starts attacking him.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
I think he could do him here. Well, you know,
he gets very close, doesn't he. I think he could
finish him off. It's just pure, pure wolverine rage. Yes,
he's winning the fight, yep.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
And then we go back to the past again and
we see this image. Now, I really want y'all to
zoom in on this face of Woverine because the colorist
shout out, this is very dynamic. He could stare at
the glow on that face that focus right there for hours.
It's so beautiful.
Speaker 1 (51:03):
Mm hmm. He's meditating, which he says because he's gathering
his thoughts, trying to figure out what the next move is.
What the next deal is, and the Scrolls bring him
out of his cell back in front of Apocalypse and
what should happen, But they decide that Sabertooth is going
to come out from behind him. No, so, now wait
(51:25):
a minute, when did Sabertooth get adamantium Because that's the
part of this story where I was like, I don't
remember him having an adamantium skeleton in clause.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Yeah, same, I don't recall that, but he's definitely got
it in that and I seem to think seem to
think was it not something to do with Cyber and Wildcat?
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Hmmm? Perhaps? Well, you know, listeners will tweet at us.
I'm pretty positive about when Sabertooth got his skeleton, So
make sure you hit us up at x Read's podcast.
That's xri ads p podcast. Let us know because we
do not have all of the answers. It's hard to
know every comic in history, but that we're here to
(52:07):
guide you issue by issue at least. So Wolverine and
Sabertooth they are going at it. He gets first blood,
Sabertooth does, and it's not looking pretty good for Wolverine.
He is not excited to be going up against Sabertooth
in an adamantium way, because he doesn't have any.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
In this Yeah, he's full on bone clad still, isn't he.
And he's he's ultimately weaker, as we all know without
the automantium, but he's still got that desire and that
rage yet again to know what's right, and he ultimately
(52:46):
he knows he has to win this fight because he
thinks he can beat being Death, whereas Sabertooth as Death
is never ever going to give it up. Ever, he's
going to love it.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
I just love seeing the juxtaposition of these two epic villains,
these two fights, you know, back to back, because for
the next amount of millions of pages, because this is
a giant size issue, we see this battle go back
and forth from the past of the present. We see
what's going on with the Hulk, we see what's going
on with saber Tooth, and he has to battle his
(53:20):
biggest foes in these moments, and it's not looking good
a lot of the time because those foes are the
most powerful foes that Wouverine has ever faced.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Yes, correct, and it's visually stunning every single panelum page,
I think, which is why When you asked me about
this the other day, it was instant answer within seconds.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
While zero hesitation.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
It stuck with me for quarter of a century in
my brain. I love it. It's just gorgeous, it's nice writing,
and it's it's pure Wolverine in every possible way.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
One of the things I want to give a shout
out to in the storytelling is that as we're jumping
back and forth between these fights, is we've got bone
claw Wolverine fighting Sabertooth, and then we've got this death
version of Wolverine with a sword fighting Hulk. And you know,
we all sparla loone know that Wolverine gets his adamantium
skeleton back in this issue, as we said at the top,
(54:15):
but the death version of Wolverine does not reveal whether
he's got the bone clause or the metal clause until
the very end. And I love that because you don't know,
you're like, you actually don't have any idea as a
reader of what's going to go on with this present
day Wolverine is death and so he is fighting the Hulk.
He's getting his cuts in, but Hulk is getting more
(54:38):
and more angry, and he's trying to crush Wolverine, and
then we go back to Sabertooth and it is a
vicious battle, vicious and I feel like, I don't know how,
but Wolverine is somehow able to get an entire Adamantium
skeleton giant Sabertooth over his head with claws stuck into
his torso to like rip him apart and have his
(55:02):
guts come out. And if this comic was drawn today,
we would have seen everything. But this is Comic Code's
authority era and we have no blood.
Speaker 2 (55:09):
You've made some amazing points there as well. It's the
clever way they don't reveal about if Death has the
Adamantum or not. Yeah, that's really very well done that
And you're right nowadays, if that came out, that would
be an R rated comic, But wouldn't it. Yeah, Yeah,
it'd be full on blood and guts. Yeah, it's stunning.
(55:31):
You're right, it's it's genuinely, as I keep repeating myself
on it's one of the very best looking comic books
ever for me. From from cover to cover it he's
just stunning, every little bit of it. It really is
very well thought out, very well laid out. Yes, gorgeous.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
Totally.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Yeah, So why is there a t rex? Ali Us
said it.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
That this is a previous there's a previous battle. Basically,
Hulk is fighting death version of Wolverine, and then Wolverine
reveals himself after he smashes his head into the Hulk,
and Halk is like, I remember you, you're the little man.
And so we're just seeing flashbacks of all of these
battles that they've had over the years.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
Ye, And Hulka grabs a giant tree and slams it
down with a crack.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
And it looks like a nuclear bomb went off. Yes,
and then we get that Hulk face zoom in a
highlight that I love.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
Oh, and then we get the meat of the story.
We see that the reason why Wolverine and Sabertooth were
fighting is because Apocalyps wanted to know, yeah, who was
going to be Death. Wolverine wins, and because he won
his prize was he gets his adamantium back. So he
is drawing the adamanteum out of Sabertooth and putting it
into Wolverine, and Sabretooth is pissed. He's like, now I'm bigger,
(56:58):
I'm stronger. I'm more fie. But you know, apocalypsnows that
Wolverine has the resolve and he is the best at
what he does. And then they had to the present
and we get an amazing snicked.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Yes, this one is so good. Wolverine is popping out.
Speaker 2 (57:16):
I have actually got a variant with that as the cover. Yeah,
that that's tattoo worthy. That's how good that image is visually,
absolutely bloody beautiful. It's full on claws at you, at
us as the reader, with the biggest snick on the page,
and it's stunning. It's that pure rage on his face.
(57:36):
I love it. I genuinely I had that ready to
have as a tattoo, and I changed it back then
when Hugh Jackman came out announced as Wolverine, so I
got a different tattoo. But I still wish i'd had
that because it's such a bloody brilliant picture.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
Yes, yeah, oh look so good. He is bursting through
the tree stump that he just got slammed into, claws
at us. He's saying, let's get this over with and
he is going after the Hulk, but the Hulk gets
pretty violent and smashing Wolverine slash death to bits and
(58:13):
bits and bits and bits. But yeah, we know that
he's coated with adamantium. Now he is impenetrable to being broken,
and so he is able to get his cuts in.
He is slashing at the Hulk, going at his head,
and just when he is about to end him, he
hesitates and he says no. And that's the.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
Power of Wolverine, ultimately, the mental strength that he's long
long insulted for not having. He always pulls it back
in the end, always m hmm.
Speaker 1 (58:49):
So he spares Hulk. Hulk spares him, Hulk runs off,
and then death version of Wolverine gets teleported and transported
back to Apocalypse. And that's when we get the big
reveal that you know this is apocalypse.
Speaker 3 (59:05):
Should we do a big dramatic reading soliloquy, You do it, Chris, youalypse.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
Oh man, all right?
Speaker 3 (59:14):
Before my war was one of many. But the time
for deception is pasted. Do not speak lowlycur The contest
is over. It is just as well in a world
where only the strongest can survive. There is every chance
the two of you could fight an eternity before one
claimed the true victory be assured, though my faithful horseman
(59:35):
that he will perish by the same conflagration that will
consume this entire world as we take our bold neck
steps along the path that leads to a new era,
my era, the Age of Apocalypse.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
Brilliant, well done, get it to get you in the
m Chris.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
So, the next issue coming up after this is called
Death Versus Death. That's it, that's what we got. It's
the issue.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
Yes, it's a stunning book. Okay, just again, to reiterate
one last time, it's just stunning. It does stick with
you once you've read that. There's not many that that
will top it for the for the art and the storyline,
and the viciousness and Wolverine fighting. As you've pointed out,
his best villains, if you're like his best foes, all
(01:00:38):
in one book, all in one issue. It's fantastic. M h.
