With Daredevil: Born Again hitting Disney+, we’re setting our radar on one of Daredevil’s most dangerous foes—Typhoid Mary! This isn’t just any villain origin; it’s a fever dream of seduction, fire, and psychological torment, all wrapped up in Ann Nocenti’s signature surrealism.

We break down the chaos of Typhoid Mary’s first appearance, where she juggles murder, mind control, and a garbage strike (yes, really), all while catching the eye of the Kingpin himself. And because this is X-Reads, we’re diving into her mutant status and why she’s one of the most unique villains to walk the line between X-Men and Daredevil.

Does Typhoid Mary out-crazy the Kingpin? Is Matt Murdock too distracted to see what’s coming? And most importantly, what does this mean for her future in the MCU? Press play before the garbage piles up!

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi, everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
This is Chandler and this is Chris, and you're listening
to it's the podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Guys. We're so excited to be back with episode. And
guess what Chris and I are recording in the same room.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yes, we are together at last, my friend, and we
are celebrating something special. It is Daredevil, recently released on
Disney Plus. Daredevil Born Again is a revival series, would.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
You say, yeah, absolutely, it's a continuation of the Netflix
Daredevil series that we may have watched years ago.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yes, and it stars Charlie Cox, debor and Wall and
Vincentinofrio while returning to their titular characters.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yes. Indeed. One thing is that we actually say your vocabulary.
It must be the milkshakes we had before.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Oh my god, we had some really good milkshakes this time.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
So you know, audience how much we love milkshakes on
this pod.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, we do.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
And I had an Ube brownie.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
It was so good. Yeah, we went to afters ice
Cream and ordered milkshakes. I had the sugar cookie and
milk ice cream shake. It was delicious, And I had
a spoonful of the Ubi brownie and it was also
very good. And I might have to try that next time.
What do you think Daredevil would have Daredevil, Well, I'm

(01:34):
sure his taste or his sense of taste is heightened
because he doesn't have his sight, so I'm sure all
the flavors are going to be very intense for him.
But maybe he would have that do buy one that
we du buy chocolate Bard Buy Chocolate Bar, which is
like chocolate pistachio cream ice cream. It was delicious.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh my gosh. Well, what did you think of the
show because you saw the first two episodes?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Now, yeah, One thing I really want to add is
the trailer for Daredevil Born Again debuted at D twenty three,
and Chris and I got to go to D twenty
three kind of be behind the scenes with the X
Men cast. But it was one of those things that
everybody was hyped about Daredevil Born Again. At D twenty three,
I remember it was all everyone's a gagged and now

(02:19):
we're here, we finally hear. We've seen the first two episodes,
and I'm going to say I don't love it yet,
but I have a feeling that I'm going to like
it towards the end because it feels like much like
the opening titles everything's crumbling in the beginning, and then
Daredevil has to rebuild himself and be born again. So
we're not quite at the born again part. We're at

(02:41):
the crumbly stage, and it's very crumbly, and I don't
like it. And it's like there's these episodes and there's
no Daredevil in it. It's just Matt Murdoch. Yeah, well
they're no building. Yeah exactly, I know. I know. So
so when when somebody asked me, do you like the show,
It's like, I don't because there's not enough Daredevil. But
at the same time, I understand that I need to

(03:02):
wait and be patient and let it grow and rebuild
and be born again because I'm sure it's gonna payoff,
is going to be great.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, I'm just glad that they brought the cast back
because Charlie Cox is a plus as Daredevil, like he
really embodies that character. And Vincent Danafrio as the Kingpin.
Oh my god. You know what confession, I think I'm
kind of hot for Pink King.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Hot for King I think I might be.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
And I'm going to explain to you exactly why during
a scene in this issue that we are going to
be covering oh yes, okay, okay, yes, we'll get to that.
But to finish my thoughts on Daredevil, I recommend it
because I actually is keeping my attention. It is a
stark contrast when you're watching Shee Hulk courtroom scenes versus
the gritty realness of the Daredevil universe. You know, I

(03:53):
know they're both in the Marvel universe, but it's night
and day. Yeah, and I love I love the fact
that they really go there with the violence.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Oh god, violence.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
There's no pulling up punches.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's a full on punch.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah, you know, this show was known for violence, and
so they've kept that tone. I can't believe it's on
Disney Plus, but I will say that I you know,
I'm really excited about the White Tiger character. You know,
he's introduced in well, you see a glimpse of him
in episode one, and you see him more and see
in episode two. You know, this actor unfortunately passed away

(04:33):
rather suddenly, I think in the middle of production, if
not right after. So I'm very curious to see how
they kind of tie up his character. But White Tiger
has always been an interesting character to me, and I'm
really happy to see him in the world.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Well, my friend, I really hope you'll enjoy episode number three.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Assume he's dead. No, no tallies, Okay, well episode three.
I guess we'll get to that when I have time.
As of this recording, there are three episodes alive and
on air. Now, No, you do watch parties.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, yeah, we are continuing our Scum and Villainy watch parties.
Every week we celebrate the release of a new Marvel
property or other geek sci fi property, like we've done
X Men ninety seven with the cast and crew agatholl along.
We have the Salem seven come in and the director
a bunch of other castmates, and you know, we're just

(05:33):
continuing our tradition with Daredevil Born Again. And it's really cool.
We were doing it on Tuesday nights. You can swing by.
It's on Hollywood Boulevard and this cantina is a replica
of the Star Wars cantina from Tattooed Scum and Villainy. Yes,
And the cool thing is is that you can actually

(05:56):
get themed drinks for Daredevil Born Again.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Well, really, what if you know what the drink is.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
There's one for Daredevil and one themed for Kingpin, and
the Kingpin one is kind of like a coconut margarita type.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Oh wow, it was really tasty.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's what I had last time. So I hope if
you're listening and you're in the Hollywood area, join us
on Tuesday nights while Daredevil Born Again is premiering.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yeah. Absolutely. Also in some news for us, we are
going to be returning to Wonder Con. So those of
you that attend Wonder Con in Anaheim, Chris and I
have a tradition of hosting an X Men fandom panel,
So if you are attending the convention on Sunday from
three to four pm in Room three hundred a like Apple,

(06:43):
you can attend our X Men fandom panel. And this
year's theme is Mutant Voices, and we've got a number
of voice actors from across X Men ninety seven to
Marvel Rivals.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
That's right, like Leonora Zan the voice of Rogue, Matthew
Waterson who is the voice of Begneto, JP Carliac More,
Isaac Robinson Smith who is a voice of Bishop, and
I know you're very excited about the Marvel rival.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yes, yes, Well, we also have Kathy Disher, who is
Jean Gray from X Men. The animated series in Bell
Cooper in X Men ninety seven and Marvel Rivals. We
have Alpha Taka Hashi and she is the voice of
Psilock in Marvel Rivals. I love playing this character. And
then we have Daniel Marin who is the voice of
Naymore in Rivals, and Naymore is one of my mains,

(07:29):
and so it's really fun to be playing nay More
and knowing the voice actor Daniel. In fact, we're going
to hang out to ourrow night. I'm excited to see him.
So yeah, anyways, come see us at wonder Con. Guys.
It's a lot of fun. And if you are not
going to wonder Con, stay tuned to Socials because we'll
be posting all about it.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Like in my head, you and Naymore are going to
go to the like the aquarium and hang out.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Oh you know what, that's not fun. Maybe we will. No,
we're hanging at night. I guess the fish got asleep. Okay, yeah,
but you know that's a good point. Maybe I'll make
plans and we'll go to Long Beach and we'll do it.
We'll do a whole nay More you know, aquarium, outing
eat at a seafood restaurant. Yeah, no, no, no, we

(08:12):
have to eat a you know, we we're eating land
animals because he ets eat them. But I guess you
know they must eat fish in Talakhan or wherever in Atlantis. Yeah,
so yeah, I guess eating seafood is not you know.
I just like, does this feel like you're eating your people?
I don't know anyways, So Daredevil, we're back to back

(08:34):
to Daredevil.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
You guys. We decided to celebrate Daredevil Born Again by
going back into the archives of the Daredevil comics and
finding a mutant. Yes, and the mutant her name is
Typhoid Marry.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yes, this is her first appearance, which is Daredevil two
fifty four. But before we get there, let's set the era.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
All right. This comic book wasublished May first of nineteen
eighty eight. The top song at the time was called
Where Do Broken Hearts Go? By Whitney Houston.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yes. I feel like I can picture this song and
hear it in my head, but I can't think of
the melody on how it goes. So I'm gonna say,
as a big Whitney Houston fan, I'm ashamed that I
cannot sing this right on key.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
How Darius I know for I know, but like I
can't either. So yeah, but I just want to say,
I just want to dance with somebody. Don't we all
want to fill there with somebody? Oh yeah, yeah, I
want to dance with somebody. This wasn't the song.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
But I like you. Oh yeah, I like that song too.
So the top movie of May first of nineteen eighty
eight is Colors, starring Robert Duval and Sean Penn. It's
about a veteran cop and his new partner who are
called in to assist with a crackdown against mounting gang
violence in the streets of East Los Angeles. This is
a film I have not seen, so I cannot comment

(10:01):
on it, but I do know that Sean Penn and
Robert Duval are wonderful actors.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Now, well, I would agree with you there, and I
share that sentiment of not having watched this film.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Yes, very well. Right onto the comic.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Onto the comic Dared Devil number two fifty four, written
by Annacenti, who we love Anne.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yes, shout out to Annascenti, who was a guest back
in episode forty three or forty four, if you guys
want to go back. We covered a long shot issue
with her.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
That's right, and the art is done by John Remita junior.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Wow, what an iconic artist. And here we go.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
On the cover, what do you see, Chris, Oh my god,
Dared Devil is surrounded in flames. He is writhing almost
like an agony there with his mouth a gape like
a blow up doll. And then behind what do.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
You see Channel, Well, would you say? The flames are
flames on the side of his face. Flames to the
side of his face. I'm going to just give a
shout out to our podcast moms, Kimberly and Katie, because
Kimberly always makes this joke on their Date with Dayline podcasts.
So not that the girls listen to our podcast, but
I'm gonna make sure I tell Kimberly that we gave

(11:11):
her a shout out and flame flames on the side
of her face. Shout out. Anyways, in the background, we
see menacing green eyes and wild dreadlocked hair and it's
all blue and shadowed and we don't know what's going on.
And underneath we have the title heart attack exclamation point.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
So I'm guessing Daredevil's having the heart attack, I would assume,
so yes, yeah, Well look at the letterbox out there
on the corner.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
That's actually really beautiful. What do you like about it? Well,
I like that Daredevil is hanging off the ledge of
a skyrisee, so he's really high up in the air
doing daredevil maneuvers up in the air. And then his
sonar concentric circle, you know, radar is going off in
his head so he can kind of sense the city,
and I think it's really cool.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, he's serving Batman realness.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
He is.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
He is, all right. So we flip open the cover
and we're in the compookt now and wow, this is
a beautiful splash page of our character that is known
as Typhoid Mary Muted.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Yes, she is wearing quite an outfit. So she has
got we've got ankle boots, fishnet stockings which are torn
at the knee. Looks like leather briefs, or maybe it's
like a leather leotard, if you will. And over the
leotard she has a pink sweatshirt that has only one sleeve.

(12:36):
The left arm is exposed, the right sleeve is covered,
and then she's got some sort of shoulder armor going on,
and two machetes in her hands and machete holders at
her waist.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, and her face half of it is white painted
and the other half is not. And this is all
just to represent the fact that typhoid Mary has a
split personality.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
And I really got to say, it's kind of like
an amalgam a black Canary meets Stevie the dance instructor.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Oh wow, right, okay, a little bit of dominoes, right,
all mashed up into one. For me, I can see that. Yeah. Absolutely,
this is an interesting design for a character. I feel
the shoulder armor is what really sends it, because I
feel like she's just in dance gear except for these
machetes and shoulder armor. Anyways, on the back of her

(13:29):
jacket we see on the next page it says Mary.
Oh and what Mary is doing her typhoid Mary is
she is stopping a mugging. There is a thug who's
trying to mug a smaller man than him, and she
is basically stopping it. So we're like, oh, is she
a good guy?

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Not really, because we realize that she is actually there
to talk to the bad guy, the robber, the mugger. Yes,
and recruit him.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yes, because she's like, why would you want this like
small change out of this wallet. If you can have
all the money in the world. You know, the city's
full of money, you should follow me, be one of mine.
And it's all about asserting dominance. In this scene, she
is trying to show this tough guy who's actually the
tough guy, and that's her. But what I find fascinating
is that her skin is hot to the touch. When

(14:21):
she touches this man's cheek, she causes burns and blood
and all sorts of stuff, So she is steaming. She
has some sort of fire going on.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yeah, but he's like way into it. Yeah, He's like, yeah,
scratch my face, leave all these like bloody barks on
my face.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
It's great. Yes, well in this moment, we'll get to
it later where he's.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Like, I don't like it, but I want to point
out that the letterer has made typhoid Mary's bubbles pink,
so every time she's speaking, she has a pink tone
to her.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
So I don't know if that is sweet or if
it's menacing. I would say menacing. Menacing, you know, it's
it's like her it's almost as if her speech is sickening.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yes, I could.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
See, you know, but I gotta now, I got to
like fast forward to see when she goes into her
like other personality. Is it a different colors, it's still pink.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
That's a good question. We find out at the very end.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Oh okay, we'll stay tuned to the very listeners will
uncover the truth.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
So she has recruited this man and they go into
a I don't know if it's a drug den or
weapons deal or both, but either.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Way there it's a hideout. This is like you know
where all the mob people they decided like, Okay, we're
gonna be safe here to do all of our.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Business, got it? Yeah? Oh yeah. I see the drugs.
I see the the Bunsen Burner chemistry set. I see
jugs on the floor. They would probably have x's on them,
like as if poison. Lots of munshine or moonshine. Yeah
maybe so bags boxes full of white powder bags. It's like,

(16:00):
we know what's going on here, and what happens is
Mary busts in and but about about a dat but
abouta There is a machine gun going off and her
henchman has killed all of the.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
People and everybody is just steaming, yes, steaming steaming, steaming,
and Mary is laughing, and he's like, wow, blood and
guts gets you off, huh and she goes yep, oh
it was so dementic. Okay, now give me your give
me your Mary laugh.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
Okay, I know, Okay, we're gonna try it, Okay, all right?

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah, yeah, a little unhinged, little little witch vibe to
its kind.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Of like a little touch of joker.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
You know what I was trying to go for. It's
like a Sailor Moon villain laugh.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Oh yeah, I feel like they always laugh like that.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
They do, they do so oh my gosh, it's a tangent.
But I'm going to the singe of our Moon live
action in person show at the Ominson Theater.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
That is so awesome. Yeah, I also have tickets to
this in Minneapolis, but I'm so jealous because the LA
Show is first.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yes, yes, it's even for you.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Oh my god. I know. If I would have known,
I would have sung the LA Show because I'm free
that night. But I don't want to spoil it. I'm
just gonna wait because I already have tickets April forth
in Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Back to Typhoid Mary.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Typhoid Mary her Henchman says that it's hot in here
because all the bodies are sizzling. The place is starting
to burn. And Mary's like, oh yeah, and he's like,
why did you pick me? And she goes and maybe
because if your killer looks maybe that came here, baby,
And she doesn't like that that she's being forceful and

(17:59):
he punches in the face with a crack and she
doesn't even flinch.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Ooh, tough heart and mean, I knew you'd be good.
I like you. You just might be angry enough for me,
just angry enough. Let's have fun.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
Hey here now place is full of body dead people,
it's burning in here.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
What about the cops?

Speaker 2 (18:21):
And like she literally straddles him and it's like fire
all around them, like flames a side of their face. Yes,
and then he continues yeah dangerous or she continues yeah, dangerous.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
You bet.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
All that stuff makes it.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Better, And he says, but can't we at least close
their eyes looking up?

Speaker 2 (18:44):
No, let the dead watch come on. I'm gonna take you,
and then I'm gonna take New York. This whole hot
town is mine.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yes, Oh my gosh. One thing that I feel like
we should point out or maybe we haven't even gotten
to it yet. But there is a lot of trash
outside because there is there is a trash strike, trash strike.
There's no garbage pickup going on right now. But I
don't think we've got to that.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Can you imagine, Oh my gosh, in New York City.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
This is real. I think this is this has actually happened.
So that's what they're pulling off of. Oh yeah, I would.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Not want to be in that town during that time.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
We should have ANSENTI back on, I we should have
done this issue with and oh well, let's just.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Call it right now and hello, hello, Hello.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Hi. Meanwhile, high above the city, we have Daredevil doing
his flip beauty flips all over the place. And I
will say that the Daredevil series on Netflix did not
really show Daredevil doing this kind of maneuver. But the
Daredevil MCU show definitely has him because in that first

(19:49):
in that first episode, he is flying through rooftops and
flipping and using his little batons to you know, battering
himself around the city.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
How fun would it be to be the stunt double
for that?

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Well, I'm sure it's all CGI, but you think it's
all CGI, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
But all ruin the magic.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Oh sorry, anyways, we are learning all about Tyrone, a
blind little boy that he's trying to take care of
as Matt Murdoch, and you know, from one blind man
to a blind boy. He's trying to like help him
not be so helpless and you know, be whatever, not
so scared of being blind.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Yeah, but before he gets to the next scene, he
runs into a guy that's committing suicide.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yes, there are some police officers on the rooftop and
a man on the corner. He's lost all of his
money on Wall Street, you know, the stocks. We know
all about this, right, and he wants to jump he'd
rather be dead.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Oh my god, this is too like real right now.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
I know.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
This is just like you know, if you're listening to
this and your four oh one K and your roth
iras and all of your like social security, everything's like
being stolen and and going to crap in the stock market.
Please don't kill yourself. No, think of Daredevil. Yes, and
whatever inspiring thing he says here, He doesn't say anything inspiring.
He doesn't know.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
He just saves the man who sets him down and
then runs off.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Oh well, then you know, if you ever get to
the side of a cliff. Let's just hope that there
is a vigilante running around here. We can we can,
we can read his inspiring words. Okay, one cop the
man he Daredevil has caught the man and he's pulling
him to safety, and the man says, no, let me go,
and the cops say, that was amazing. I didn't even

(21:34):
see him conning.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Hey, I really appreciate Yep. That's Daredevil's words, by the way, yep.
And then Daredevil's gone. That's that's his inspiring words. So
he's still in his head. He's in his thoughts. He's
deep in his thoughts. He's thinking about his training with Stick,
who is the guy that trained him all of his

(21:55):
martial arts moves. And he goes to visit Tyrone. In
the Hospel, he changes into Matt Murdoch because he doesn't
want people walking in because there could be a nurse
that says, oh my god, what's Daredevil doing here. He
wakes the kid up, and he through Forrest tries to
kind of get him to sense a fist in front
of his face.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I literally thought that he bitch slapped him me too,
first time I read this, ye, just like Daredevil.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
I know not God, you're too rough with him. What
are you doing?

Speaker 2 (22:23):
But no, it's just kind of like a whoosh in
front of his face.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Yes, a whoosh. Anyways, this boy is scared. He doesn't
he's like newly blind. He does not know how to
access his other senses and his you know, Daredevil or
Matt Murdoch is pushing, pushing, pushing to get him to
you know, fight and feel and everything like that. And
in his head he goes back to his training with

(22:47):
Stick and Stick is like merciless with poor Matt, and
that's what he's trying to do, the same sort of training.
He's just like, I just need to make this boy
as tough as me.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
I'm just like, oh my god, dude, like backed down.
It's like it's too fresh man and give them some
time to like chill.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Yeah, no kidding. So Tyrone says, where'd you go? Are
you still here? Matt? Why do you hate me? Why
are you so mad at me? I don't understand this
power you talk of. I can't tell where your fist is,
but I can feel your anger. I feel that. I
feel your anger so big it's crashing through the darkness.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
I'm sorry, Tyrone. I'm sorry. I want so bad to
teach you what I know, but my way is too harsh,
too brutal. But we can't stop if you don't learn.
The alternative is the dull, stupid, empty, dead world of
helpless darkness. You'll all you'll be all alone there, You'll die.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
There's like exclamation points to so he's like, yell, it's
like mad, Jesus, I'm gonna say. This kid's like eleven
years old too, like you is a young kid, and
like traumatizing him and it's awful.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
He's like, I'll die.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
All right.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Well, Matt, you're you're wearing me out. So let's get
to why am I hot for Kingpin?

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Tell us Kingpin.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
When I look at Kingpin, I see solid hard rock beef,
like a tower of a man. Yes, somebody that you
have to climb on top of. Yes, it's like a
mount Everest.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Yes, yes, And.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
You know we get to see his athletic prowess in
this scene. Move over Charles Xavier in a basketball.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
But this is very Charles coated, with his bald head
and everything.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
So we're seeing this his version of the Danger Room,
which is a squashball court. Yes, Kingpin is wearing kind
of like this ripped up like workout shirt, you know,
shorty shorts and shorty shorts.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
And he's got white Jim shoes and he's got Jim
socks with yellow stripes on them. And he's thinking to
himself about how he wants to basically kill Daredevil a
big surprise, but Daredevil, I guess took Vanessa, his wife away.
Vanessa who's featured in Daredevil Born Again.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Oh I love her and Daredevil boring.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Yeah. I love how.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
They're doing like, you know, couples therapy stuff.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
You know, she was like boss Yeah, tense scene. Oh yeah, anyway,
I love that storyline.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Go ahead. Yeah. So anyways, he's just thinking about how,
you know, he was able to tear down Murdoch, but
then he was able to rise again and he fell
in love with Karen Page, and he's like, I don't
want him to be in love with Karen Page. Blah
blah blah. Who's Deborah an Wall in the series if
you don't.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
Know, Oh my god, I won her in True Blood.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Oh yes, of course. And then his henchman basically just
comes in and talks about the trash that's happening, and
how a woman named Typhoid Mary is blazing a bloody
trail through Hell's kitchen.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Yep, she wiped out gambling dance, busted up major drug houses,
and she's grabbing a fortune each and every time.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
And he says, what does she look like?

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Why she's actually quite alluring, quite seductive beautiful?

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Yeah, set up a private screening once. I must know
everything about her. Wow, okay, dared double.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
I mean sorry, pink no, no, but like but like
you said it like it was a butler BARGI gay, Yeah, okay,
this is I want like this needs to be like
ASMR vincent info like he has, Like.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
He's got this like deep like deep sexy boys. I
can't even imitate it.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Yes, okay, I can do it all right. So where
do you want to start?

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Why she's This is where I'm butler barging in. Why
she's actually quite alluring and quite seductive beautiful?

Speaker 6 (27:21):
Yes, set up a private screening at once. I must
know everything about her.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
You did it? You know what I mean it was?

Speaker 2 (27:33):
I must know everything about her because he does that.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
It's like it sends tingles down my spine like a SMR.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
I love how you're You're into Kingpin. I don't know why.
It's just a king boy. I guess a pin boy.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
You're fanning myself. Okay, let's get out of this squash
ball court before things happen.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
I know.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Oh god, we're back with Typhoid and Mary Aloft in
the top floor of a New York warehouse, in illegal
game room where gamblers could get their hands dirty and
remain untouchable until now.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
I like this game, baby, buy more tables like this
and paint them red.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Ma'am. I appreciate your display of power just now, but
this business is already wrung by the kingpin.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
What's a kingpin? He can stick it? So we still
playing New Rules Sin, And this is where we get
to see a little bit of her powers because one
of her Mwton's powers is to be able to psychically
kinetically move things. Yes, that's what I met. So she's
doing that with you know, this knife on the table,

(28:58):
and it's spinning around real quick, and it's landing on
that guy who was just talking to her.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, hey, how'd you do that? Stop? She thinks, and
the knife stops.

Speaker 6 (29:07):
Oh no, and he thinks to himself, Oh, I can
grab that knife.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Pretty blade, not polite to point, reach for.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
It, sucker. She thinks oooh, and that makes him reach
for the knife and he goes, ah is the knife like,
goes right in between his fingers.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
My business, yours?

Speaker 7 (29:26):
Yours?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Oh, so she takes over that game, the gambling room
like none of it.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
He is ruthless.

Speaker 6 (29:34):
Well, the goon that she recruited, he has the garbage bags.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
What should he do with them? And she goes, well, Darling,
actually you can read Mary.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
Well, Darling, I cleaned house and washed the laundry. Don't
you think, baby kins, you could take out the garbage.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
You mean these dead guys.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yes, sweetie. Pile them in the street with the rest
of the stinking garbage. No one will notice a few
more bags, Darling.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
And we hear a radio go off and with no
end insight for the worst garbage strike in history, New
York is now truly the dirtiest city in the world.
The mayor says.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
Ellipses as we go off down the block and we
get to see Matt Murdock and Karen Page.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
Oh yeah, are you into the relationship?

Speaker 1 (30:25):
I'm not really into their relationship. But I will say
that the garbage is piled so high it's above their heads.
Oh my lord, look at how high it is. That's
gotta be so smelly. Could you imagine like the flies
the rodents.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Still and like what about like the scene from the Birds,
like that Alfred Hitchcock movie that's happening in his one
panel with all the seagulls, just like with the trash
they're carrying around and probably dropping on people.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Yes, nasty. Well Karen basically is like, leave that poor
boy tryroone alone. And he's like no, and he goes
to the hospital and Forrest's him to do more training
as he's trying to get him to walk across two stools.
This is this is child abuse.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
It is this is like legit, Like you know, the
first time, it was just like okay, he's emotional, Okay,
I'll give you a break, Matt. But now you're making
this poor kid stand on a bar.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Stool after your girlfriend's like please don't do it, and
you're like, I will, I'm going to. I'm actually going
right now.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, And then the whole test is like the kid
has to step from one stool to the other, but
he doesn't know where the stool is at. He just
has to kind of, like, you know, use his senses.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
Yeah, what does he do? He just missteps. He completely
falls for the ground, but Matt catches him so that
he's safe, and he's just like, please, Matt. Maybe I
don't have it in me to do this, but his
blindnes is so bad. I mean, I was scared at first,
but haven't you noticed all the colors I see in
my head? Beautiful colors in a stillness, a silence that

(31:56):
feels like I'm tucked in safe in a warm blanket.
And even the emptiness so horrible at first. Now I
look into it, it's not so empty.

Speaker 6 (32:05):
It goes on for miles and miles, so strange, but
I like it. I'm trying to be strong, that making
the best of the darkness, but you just keep reminding
me of what I'm missing. Maybe someone thought you were
tough enough to learn how to walk and stuff, but
I'm not so tough.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
From one kind of darkness to another.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Ooh, yes, we are in Kingpin's video room. He's got
all sorts of videos running on typhoid Mary learning all
about her, and we kind of get a little history
lesson about who she is and where she comes from.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
That's right, Code ate Typhoid Mary one of the most
fascinating cases in psychiatric history. Subjects spent most of her
life institutionalized, undergoing every known test, yet she continues to
baffle the entire scientific community. The child's dual personality was
first discovered in infancy. In the Mary persona, she is fragile, sickly,

(33:02):
prone to epilepsy and other disorders.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
As typhoid, she is utterly unapproachable, uncontrollable, a murderous little girl,
pure poison, and as typhoid, all symptoms of marry sickness,
including the epilepsy, disappear.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
Yeah, and we're kind of seeing on the different screens
Mary in bed, in the hospital bed, connected to all
these electrodes, with the doctor over her all the way
to her merry, crazy psycho child version of herself. And
then we're back to Mary. Mary is a sweet, cooperative girl.
Much is known about her. She is oblivious mercifully to

(33:40):
her other half. The most startling fact of this case
is that the two persona of completely different heart rates,
alpha waves, EEG patterns, biorhythms. They even smell differently. Nothing
is known of Typhoid other than what could be physically
recorded while she was sedated.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
She allows no one in her mind. She spent her
every waking moment battling all help furiously and relentlessly. We
do know that she runs a constant fever, which maybe
what alters her body. In mind, she screams occasionally about
being hot in her brain. Only once did Typhoid cooperate

(34:19):
with testing during the telekinetic training, as it was something
she wanted to develop. We have documented evidence of Typhoid's
erratic ability to move small objects. Mary has no such ability.
And we see Typhoid again screaming rage fit and then
sedated in a watch room monitoring room with people behind
a t w a mirror watching her move a glass

(34:42):
of water across a table.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
And then she does something really crazy. Because at this
point the records are vague, Typhoid escaped. Take it, of course,
her helpless week or half with her. She turned up
a year later as an extremely successful stage actress. Like
what okay, I made you?

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Though?

Speaker 2 (35:04):
All right, I'll go with it. Our research shows us
that all who have encountered her, from acting coaches to directors,
talked of her with awe almost adoration. They believed her
destined to become the greatest actress of the twelfth century.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Twentieth Oh fuck, I had ages every.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
What did I say the twelfth I met the twentieth
You guys, it's a little prince. I need my glasses,
my peepers. Again, she disappeared her doctor suspect it was
Mary that built the acting career. No da and Typhoon
who tore down. Well, I could see that she was
last seen in Chicago, launching her new career of robbery
and blackmail.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Ooh, and now she's back in New York. Anyways. Kingpin
is watching in his chair, looking thick.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Oh he's so thick. He's sitting in.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
That dark room stroking his arm wrest Yeah, or what's
the thing that holds the cigarette? Oh yeah, I don't
know what that's called holder. And he's just recounting what
we've just learned about how you know, she's got a
slit personality and how she kind of mirrors Daredevil and

(36:15):
Murdoch and how they also have a split personality.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
Wait they don't really though, No, no, right, no, Well,
Daredevil has obviously a secret identity because.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Well sort of I mean, as we know, he has
moments of rage as Daredevil that he does not want
in his Matt Murdoch life.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Right. Anyways, Oh, now we're going to get closer on
Kid's face, that big juicy Yes.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Well, he decides that the best person to take down
Daredevil is someone just like him, with two personalities. So
he's like, I'm going to get Marry on my side
and I'm going to send her after Daredevil and kill him.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
It just seems like, you know, from what I see
of Kingpinn in my history of reading these comics and
knowing these stories, is that he's always sending berserkers. Am
I right? Like Bullseye right, berserker and I'm going back
to ben Affleck their devil, you know, like Punisher.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Is yeah, yeah yeah, wild men, the wild women in
the types. Yes, well, you know, Kingpin calls on the
order to recruit Mary, but his henchman says.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Very well, sir, one small item, Sir, may I remind
you of the garbage strike. He has reached grotesque proportions.
Isn't it time to end it? Shouldn't you tell your
boys to settle.

Speaker 6 (37:47):
No man's filth, man's refuse humanity's true nature is found
in its remains. Let the garbage build, let it pile up.
Let the stench of man fill the streets. I'll decide
when New York gets relief.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
That was very whispery. Sorry, no, it's fine. I couldn't
get the girl. It's fine, Okay, moving on. We're in
a New York City apartment of glory on the obreen.
She shares with Foggy Nelson, who is the law partner
of Matt Murdoch. She's in a dark room fixing up
some photographs that she has taking. Ooh, and what does

(38:33):
she find she has like the tea, she has the
blackmail because she has a photo of Foggy in this
illegal dump that of a person that he is defending
in court. Ooh, saying that there's no such illegal dump.
So she has the evidence that could destroy him. But
she loves him or lives with him. I don't quite

(38:54):
know the relationship. So she's just gonna hold on to
this for now.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Ooh, that's scandalosa.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
So we are in the Kingpin Tower and we have
some security guards that are a little on edge because
there is a crash. There's some sort of mirror or
not mirror like a frame of art breaks because something
slams against it. So they go and investigate, but there's

(39:21):
nobody up there. And then an elevator opens and there's
nobody in the elevator.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
That's right, But guess what there is? And it is
the figure of Typhoid Mary walking towards the two guns
that are guarding this doorway, and she thinks to herself,
sleep And guess what it works? Is she a Jedi?

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Wait? So she's got telepathy, n telekinesis up and fire powers.

Speaker 7 (39:51):
Yes, and she makes people sick and she makes people
sick on top of that, so you know, she is
able to sneak behind the goons.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
She is able to crack their heads together, and she
is able to walk right into Kingpin's office and put
a blade of machete to his neck.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
You know what's funny though, when like she puts the
guards to sleep, she thinks to herself, funny, that usually
only works on cows. So she goes around like to
like cows and tries that out.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
I know where are there cows in New York City?
I would like to know.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
Anyway, nobody ever gets that close to Kingpin. No, this
is a big deal.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
This is a big deal.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
She is practically giving him a shave.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
So she holds the machete up to his neck and
she says, looking.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
For me, fats womp, and he just you know, backhands
her with the fist, his big meaty arm.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Mm mmm ooh. And you know, she says, not bad,
baby doll. And she thinks the word burn and that
caused fire to erupt on the desk, but Kingpin is
not moved by it. He just slaps it down with
his big meaty hand. He doesn't feel a thing.

Speaker 6 (41:09):
Miss Typhoid, I have no time for parlor tricks. You
cut through the best defenses of money can buy and
got right up to my throat. But nonetheless, let me
show you whose boss, just so you know who's on
the top, who calls the shots, baby doll.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
Ooh, And she is looking at the sizzling happening in
his hand, and she's kind of looking at him mesmerized. Yeah,
And she says, so we're mutually impressed with each other.
We could form a club, or we could.

Speaker 6 (41:43):
Talk a million dollar hit.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
You can get the best assassin in town for ten thousand,
Why the million? Why me?

Speaker 6 (41:53):
Can you make any man fall in love with you,
child's play. That's what the million's for. Even I recognize
that love costs. Matt Murdoch, Daredevil, one of the same man,
make him love you, love you like he can't live

(42:16):
without you. Then rip his heart out and leave him
alive and bleeding.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Oh my god, Chandler, that was ridiculously good. So kingfin
is holding up two photographs, one a Daredevil and also
a headshot of Matt, and then now she is looking
at them and she says, he's handsome. I'll take you
a million, but a job like this, it's got its

(42:45):
own juice. I would have done it for free.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
And then we go. The next morning, Matt Murdoch is
at the hospital to terrorize Tyrone again, and the nurse
is like, you cannot go see him right now. He's
with his father, his actual like relative. Oh but so
he's just like they need private time. And we see
that typhoid Mary in her Mary Wig. I don't know

(43:13):
if I don't know if she gets is she Mary
or is she pretending to be married.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
I'm very confused by this, but here's maybe a hint.
Is her thought bubble is still pink?

Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (43:24):
Oh oh oh, But wait, her speech bubble is white.
So my thought is that she's thinking typhoid thoughts and
she's actually embodying Mary.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
Oh, yes, yes, okay, So she is thinking, look at me,
sit with me, and she's kind of psychically suggesting that
Matt Murdo come and sit with her and.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
Excuse me, sir, I couldn't help overhearing, but I'm here
to see tyrone also.

Speaker 6 (43:51):
That's nice, and then he thinks, please, lady, I need
to be alone with my thoughts.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
I'm a volunteer worker with the blind. My father was blind,
and I lived in the blackness with him. Through him,
I grew to know and appreciate both the deep silence
and peace of his dark world, and it's isolating pain.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
Matt thinks to himself, her voice so passionate. She must
have loved her father. I wonder what she looks like.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
Give me your hand, don't be so shocked, touch me.
And then she like grabs his hand and puts it
on her face so that she can kind of what
he can feel.

Speaker 1 (44:24):
Hmmm.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
My father always wanted to know the faces of people,
but society considers it impolite for a blind man to
use his hands. The only eyes he has.

Speaker 1 (44:34):
I too feel as your father did. I always want
to touch pain my.

Speaker 2 (44:39):
Glasses, Velma from scoopy deep. I want to see your eyes.
A sided man's eyes reflect out a blind man's eyes have.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
The depth of darkness is darkness, so deep, yes, very deep.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
My father taught me things about how a blind man
can sense the world when he died. I made it
my personal quest to teach the blind to break through
the walls they build to enter the blind man's fortress.
But one must be very gentle, especially with the children.
Their youth makes them malleable.

Speaker 1 (45:20):
They can learn things, what things.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Well, how to see without eyes.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
You're wonderful. I could you help my friend Tyrone?

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Of course, that's what I'm here for.

Speaker 1 (45:36):
By the way, my name is Mary Mary and oh
so she is already getting her influence into Matt Murdoch.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
Oh yeah, she is like laying it on thick And
I'm sorry, but like that was kind of a really
obvious cover story.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
I'm also here for Tyrone.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
My father was blind, I know, you know, I mean
like she couldn't have come up with something a little more.
I don't know, Yeah, but he I guess he was
smitten because she has the power to do that to men.
She will control them with her mind.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
Yeah. Yeah. I also like how she's colored in a
darker shade of pink in her skin to kind of
reflect that she is hot, you know, Like, I'm surprised
that they didn't have Matt say oh, you're warm to
the touch or something. And I think that would have
been a nice bit of script so that we as
audience would understand that she's got this fever inside of her.

(46:34):
You know, well, does the fever get.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
Turned off when she's married?

Speaker 1 (46:40):
But then I don't know why her skin is so pink.
I guess you have to keep the color palette the same,
otherwise he might be like, who's this other person?

Speaker 2 (46:46):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
But anyways, Yeah, that's the issue. It was super fun
and the scentie. We adore you and we cannot wait
