We’re joined by Crystal Lee, the voice of Jean Grey / Phoenix in Marvel Rivals and Jubilee in Marvel Move, for an intense trip back to the 90s as we tackle X-Men (Vol. 2) #28 (1994): Devil in the House. Having someone who literally brings Jean and Jubilee to life makes this conversation hit on a whole different level. This issue brings the heat with Jubilee’s nightmare-fueled fear, Sabretooth’s unsettling stay in the X-Mansion, and Jean Grey pushing past the line between control and rage. It’s psychological, uncomfortable, and peak X-Men melodrama in the best way.

In Uncanny News, we talk producing the Marvel Rivals First Year Anniversary Event with cast, crew, and fans, Chris’ cross-country con run from New York Comic Con to New Orleans with the X-Men voice cast, and why it’s time to start getting excited for The Uncanny Experience 2026.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, everybody. This is Chimman, and this is Chris and
this is Crystal Lee. And you're listening to X Street.
It's the podcast Welcome Back, Mutants and Misfits. You're listening

(00:23):
to X Reads, the podcast where your favorite X Men
moments come to life, sometimes with trauma, always with drama.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Today we are getting into X Men number twenty eight,
the one where Jeanne says, saber tooth can catch these hands.
But first we've got a fiery guest joining us.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Hello, we are thrill.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
We have telepathic butterflies in our stomachs to welcome the
incredible guest here, Crystal Lee.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Hellollo, Hi, and I'm so sorry about those telepathic butterflies.
Let me just turn that off real quick. Thank you,
back to baseline. Yeah, thank you so much for yes.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Oh my gosh, we're so excited you. Of course, being
the voice of jean Gray in Marvel Rivals, that's how
we know you. We got to celebrate with you in
San Diego Comic Con last July, and we're so happy
to have you here to dig in on an X
Men issue.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yes, yeah, thank you. I'm really excited because I mean
I haven't had a lot of experience with the comics
and so getting to read one of these issues with
you guys, especially such a great like a juicy one
or it was a delight.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yes, well, we are excited to jump into this special
issue because it's very Jeen Gray focused. We got some
Sabertooth action up in there, and there is some soap
opera dramaa loore happening it.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Oh yeah, the X Men are our drama. They love it.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, Well, first before we do that, though, I want
to get to know you a little bit better.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Totally.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yes, yeah, So tell us when did you first see
the character Phoenix was in the comic books?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Was it a cartoon?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
It was the movies. I mean I growing up, I
was kind of sheltered. I didn't see a lot of
like movies, comics, games. So when the X Men movies
came out and they were like a big thing, that
I think was my first time seeing Jean Gray and
the Phoenix. So yeah, it was the original X Men movies.
I recently rewatched one of them and yeah, it holds up.

(02:22):
It's fun.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah. Absolutely, We'll talk about, you know, finding your version
of Phoenix because obviously you portray her. Sorry, you portrayed
Jean Gray and the Phoenix entity in Marvel Rivals, So
I'd love to hear about your approach to both entities.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Absolutely. I mean, when the role came and I got
offered it, I freaked out because I was like, oh,
my goodness, this character is huge, such a legacy, so iconic,
and I wanted to do her justice. And so having
said that, I wasn't really big into the comics, didn't
really know much about the law and her story, I

(03:01):
was like, we gotta fix that. So I called up
a friend of mine who is so deeply in with
the comic, Like, having read so many issues is like
an encyclopedia of X Men knowledge, and like general Marvel
and Hero knowledge. We spend hours just dissecting, like the
different eras of Jean Gray, her story, her different storylines,

(03:23):
her relationships, especially with different members of the X Men,
and I kind of like reconciled what I was hearing about,
how her character had progressed in all of these different issues,
and with what we were getting with the script in
Marvel Rivals, and kind of figuring out what parts of
her and her relationship with the Phoenix as well as

(03:44):
her teammates on the X Men and other heroes that
she interacts with. What I wanted to be able to
bring to that, and that was that dichotomy of who
she is in this iteration, her relationship with the Phoenix,
her being that humanizing entity like that I feel like
is a through line in her story, like the humanity
that she doesn't lose even when she's hosting this force
of cosmic creation and destruction, and the desire to be

(04:07):
able to do good and to be the vessel with
which the Phoenix force understands itself and all of creation.
And I think it's a very beautiful thing. I think
what I love about being able to portray this character
in Marvel Rivals is that being able to be those
two sides of that coin where they are one but
still have like very separate modes of expression. You always

(04:29):
know when it's the Phoenix talking and when it's Gene talking,
and of course on the ault line, when they're both
talking and you're about to die. Yeah, So thank you
so much. I love getting to delve into characters this
complex and this story and it's really such a huge
honor to be able to be trusted with that. I mean, God,
it's Jane Gray, for.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Goodness sake, really one of the most iconic characters in
all of Marvel Dun.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I know, that's incredible. I mean, obviously grounding yourself in
a character like Jean Gray makes sense, but how do
you find the deliverance of a cosmic entity? What are
you drying from in this kind of moment?

Speaker 3 (05:15):
It's for me, it's the idea of like what does
power sound like when it's really detached from emotion but
without coming off as robotic. That was the line that
I was that I wanted to walk and like for
me the end too, that is like you ever, do
you ever just kind of feel a little bit numb
sometimes when everything is really like a lot and you

(05:37):
kind of I don't know if this is the same
for you, but like I sometimes when I'm really stressed,
I kind of like try and like distance myself emotionally
from everything that's going on in life, and I like
just try to make it through the day. There are
a lot of times in my life where it was
like that's real, Like it's it's not a place that
I go do often, which is nice, but like kind
of remembering what that's like and kind of being the

(05:58):
intellect without so much of the raw emotion that's like
kind of that kind of clouds the way that you
move through life. That's where I wanted to go with Phoenix,
because she's detached, she's too she's much too powerful to
be bothered by a lot of the microcosms of what
people are feeling and what's going on. But there is
that desire to understand what's going on and why, and

(06:21):
I wanted to play into that of like, she doesn't
have an emotional attachment to the people that she's talking
to a lot of the time, and she talks a
lot in this I think she talks more than Gene
in Marvel Rivals. But the reason that she's having these
interactions is from that fundamental curiosity. And I feel like
that goes hand in hand with this like the idea
that even no matter how detached you are, there will

(06:43):
always be a part of you that doesn't want to connect.
Because I found that even even in the times where
I was the most kind of like trying to emotionally
distance myself from like whatever whatever I was doing in life,
there was always a part of me that was like
wanted to come out and like try and connect and
try and understand, and that is eventually what drew me
to acting because before this I was in a completely

(07:03):
different field. That was in Stem where you know, the
whole logic and distance thing is a lot more common
and rewarded because that's just the work. But yeah, that's
kind of where I tried to strike that balance godly
but not cold, far from it.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Well, it comes across so incredible.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
I got to say.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
There are so many people that tell me Phoenix is
my main you know, they just love Phoenix and Marvel rivals.
So tell me about the gay mechanics. So, because there's
probably people here that are listening that haven't played yet.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
She's a dualist yep.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
And what does a duelist do in the game.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Well, they're known for having high damage output and they
she is what's considered a poke character. So Phoenix can
poke through defenses because it's hit scan, meaning her power
effect immediately hits wherever you're crosshairs are lining up when
you hit the trigger button, and you know, her effects

(08:05):
cause kind of explosions. So she she creates little little
flames above your head and if you reach three flames,
and if she hits you one more time, you explode
and then the damage can affect your teammates. So if
you're all grouped up together, Phoenix can tear people apart
because she she makes all of this explosive damage happen

(08:26):
and it makes your life drop dramatically. She was super
strong in what season we're currently in four we're about
to end for so in season three she was super strong.
Season four they brought her down a little bit, and
I think they're going to kind of now find the
balance of because she's not as strong in season four
is but season five, I think they're gonna they're gonna

(08:49):
increase her a little bit. But yeah, that's an over
explanation anything. I will say. I play a lot of
Jean Gray Phoenix in the game, at least I did,
especially in season three when she's super powerful.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Something that is so cool about Marvel Rivals is the
fact that they have so many costumes and skins.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
That you can all love.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Oh yes, have you seen all of these skins for
this character in the game, Crystal.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I don't think I've seen all of them, but I
definitely have seen some. Can I kin look up all
Phoenix mar Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I'll say that she doesn't have as many as most
of the characters, but she has this new Dark Phoenix
one that just came out in the Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Oh oh, I'm just looking at it now. This rocks. Yeah,
Holy mother of God, she looks so good.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, this is a first reaction of Crystal Lee to
the sights of the Dark Phoenix skin.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Who don't love a little dark Phoenix. That's it's it's
her most iconic era, I know.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Yeah. And there there's an amazing mote from that pack
where in comics I think it's around on Kenny x
Men two. Uh, Dark Phoenix's is just kicking the X
Men's butt and in on the cover, she's reaching up
and she's grabbing the X Men logo and she's about
to crush it, and they do this emoe where like

(10:10):
literally the word x Men appear in the air and
she grabs it and crushes as that's sick.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
I love that. I especially love like now that I'm
looking at like on the site with all the different
skins listed and like lined up with their icons, I
see that the Dark Phoenix is the only one where
her her eyes have that like ethereal, like whited out
glow of flames where it kind of gives that effect
where she's not entirely there. I love that. I love

(10:38):
that detail.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, I will say that your voice as Gene, like
we talked a lot about the Phoenix Bloys, but your
voice as Gene is is almost studied to what I
feel like Gene would sound like. I don't know if
you studied any of her, any of her other voices
across the movies and cartoons and everything.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
I actually, okay, besides remembering what she sounded like or
basically her portrayal in the films, I actually tried to
avoid looking at previous iterations of her character portrayals. I
was so averse to the idea of getting that in
my head of like, oh, what she should sound like,
and then like backing myself into a corner performance wise,
being like, oh no, I have to sound like this,

(11:17):
I have to sound like that. As we all know,
I think one of her iconic voices in like a
lot of the animated series is the the legendary Jennifer Hale.
Ia knew I think a little bit about her work
prior to this, but I was very adamant on like, Okay,
I'm not gonna look it up because if I look
up what is sure to be an incredible portrayal. I

(11:39):
will psych myself out such that when I get into
the booth, I'll just keep I'll just keep comparing whatever
I'm doing to this idea of what it should be.
And I didn't want that. I wanted it to be organic.
I wanted to focus on what I could bring to
it organically and to be the best that I thought
it could be in what I believed would be, I
think an on or a portrayal of Gene that honors

(12:01):
who the character is. So it gladdens me greatly to
hear that it sounds like a studied of a studied
performance of what she should sound like, because, thank goodness, man,
I didn't, I actually did. I deliberately tried not to
study because I was worried it would come off badly.
So to find that the result has, I guess, met

(12:23):
at the very least expectations for what Gene ought to
sound like.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, well, be really happy.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Well good I mean, And then obviously kudos to the
casting directors and the voice directors that kind of probably
you know, guided you because they they have an idea
of what they wanted to sound like. But yeah, it's
definitely it lives in her world. It's her own take.
But yeah, you know, the Phoenix voice is, you know,
kind of big and whatnot, and I don't. I don't

(12:50):
connect to Phoenix entity. I connect to gen Gray the person.
So whenever your Gene Gray voice comes out, I'm always
just like that sounds like Gene yes glad.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
I had the most fun because when I whenever Jeane
gets to come out and say things, it's because she's
the She's the one with the personal relationships with all
of these characters. And it was just so rewarding and
juicy to be able to like dive in and bring
that out, like whenever she's talking to Storm, and like
it's it feels good, yes, live in that.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Indeed, I want to hear your favorite voice lines from
Marvel Rivals? Which ones do you just love it so much?

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Okay, I've got to One of them is obviously the
ault one. Do you need me to do you want?
Do you want me to do them as? Is that
the thing? Or do you want me to just say them?
Or what I don't?

Speaker 1 (13:38):
You might you might blow out your.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Mic on And people have heard my old line a
million times. They so that you are nothing is just
so it's fun, it's iconic. It's the one that everyone
kind of like comes up to me and they're like,
I love that line, and I'm like, thank you, it
was fun to do. And the other one that I
just think is so fun it's her the line that
Jean says to nay More whenever she gets rid of
some of his summons and she's like, sorry, Naymore, your

(14:02):
soldiers are sushi now, and it's just so fun. I
love that little I love that teasing. I love it
so much. And also every time she speaks with Roro, yes,
that sisterhood there, it's like it's just that deep love.
I it just it warms my heart every time. Oh
I'm saying so many more than two, so I fully

(14:23):
lied to you. But there's one more and I oh god,
I don't know if I can say it verbatim, but
it's the line that Phoenix has with Adam Warlock, where
she like, I think, she says, it was you who
brought me here, Adam Warlock. And the reason that has
so much personal significance to me is that Adam Morlock
is voiced by the incredible Jordan Reynolds, who actually has

(14:46):
been my mentor in this industry and in voiceover since
before I moved to LA and so he is perhaps
the most instrumental person in my career in like helping
me out to become who and where I am today.
So it really does feel like an ode to the
fact that, like you brought me here, like Jordan is

(15:08):
the reason that I'm able to have this career. He
introduced me to the agent that I have right now.
You know, he helped me out when I was like
setting up my very first like professional booth and everything.
And so yeah, to be able to say that to
him in game is like, Adam more luck, it was
you who brought me here. I was like, oh, I
almost cried, but yeah, it's just it's funny how these

(15:29):
things work out.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Well I have a couple of fun ones before we
move into the issue. Okay, so tell me because I
found out that you are an avid D and D player.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes yes I am. I love
D and D. I love Dungeons and Dragons. There's no
ceiling on the amount of dungeons and dragons I would
like to have in my life at any given time, cause.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Well, if Phoenix rolled into your campaign, what class an
alignment do you think she would be?

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Okay, Phoenix, Jan Gray, I know this celestial Warlock. Okay,
the patron, the celestial being being, the Phoenix force and
the Phoenix entity, because Gene feels very much like a
Warlock character where she's get deriving these powers from this
cosmic entity. And I think it's really funny because like
Warlocks have this interesting like they're very they can be
very melee, but they have that like spellcaster component, but

(16:23):
they only ever have like two goddamn spell slots at
a time. Oh my god, am I allowed to cuss before?

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yay?

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Yeah, as I was saying, Warlocks two goddamn spell slots
at any given time, So like they can do some
really cool stuff and it's always like super powerful, but
it's limited until you got to take a short rest.
And I feel like that's very It can be very
Gene where like she does some like crazy big stuff
and she's like I got to take a like I
need a fiver like it. It feels it feels right,
So yeah, locking locking it in Jean Gray and the

(16:52):
Phoenix in a Dungeons and Dragons build Celestial Warlock level
twenty bitch.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
And you'd think I'd prepared that, but no, truly, nobody's
asked me that before. But it's just I listen, it's
all in the dome baby, I love D ANDB.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Well, let's let's get on into the issue.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, let's get this the era.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
So the era. This comic book was published on January
first of nineteen ninety four. Yes, this is a primetime
childhood for me. I always like, what ten eleven and
you were twelve?

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, yeah, this era, this is nineteen ninety four is
when X Men, the animated series came out. That was
ninety two. Well, I mean it's in the era of
it coming out, so it's like this is actually peak
Chandler obsessing over X Men. Definitely reading this comic as
it came out. I remember reading this one. I owned it.
I read it multiple times when I was a kid.

(17:54):
And Pizza hut. Oh yeah, Pizza hut. I know, I
know you weren't. You weren't around at this time, christ No,
I was.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
I would have been nineteen ninety four. I would have
been negative three years old.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Yeah, I know, you know you missed a good era.
It was good. It was good. I'm just gonna say that.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
That to the party.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
That era was fantastic. So lots of fun memories of
nineteen ninety four.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
That's right. And the top song at the time it
was called Hero by Mariah Carey.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Wow, and then a Hero comes along that's the one. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Yeah, I'm not.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
I didn't completely miss the train. I guess that's so great.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Oh my god, Yeah that was a massive hit. Yeah. Wow.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
You know, at the time of this recording, we were
about to hit Mariah Carey season again.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yes, yes, oh my god.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
We're actually already in it. November. She's done the video. Yeah,
of course, October one, November first, She says, it's.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
I'm obsessed specifically with her reign on the entire holiday season.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I just one afternoon I crashed out and I was like,
how much money does that song pull in every year?
And I fully had a meltdown, like on my couch,
going like and she wrote it in fifteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
I know they didn't.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Oh what's that? Like? Oh god, good for her. It's iconic.
It's such a good song, but like, can you imagine
you just like on a whim and they didn't even
think it would be anything. They were just like, what
Christmas song? Why not fifteen minutes boom done, and then
it's like the defining melody from here until the end
of time. You hear that and you're like, oh, it's

(19:35):
Christmas Baby, and she bakes a bunch of allion dollars
off of it.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
So the point of where she is the official ambassador
of Christmas, yeah, my god. And we actually talk about
this a lot. We talk about this Mariah Carey thing
a lot on this podcast. Well, because she's got hits
half for hit, so yeah, we are always talking about
the era that issue comes out, and so we're like,

(20:02):
and at this time it's Mariah carries this song.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
So you're like, oh, yeah, of course Fantasy or Heartbreaker
or whatever. She is still like the artist of the nineties.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
I would say, oh my gosh, Yeah, what was the
top movie? Channel? Oh, the top movie is a movie that,
to me is one of the best comedies of all time.
That movie is Missus Doubt Fire Starry Robin Williams.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
I love Missus Doutfire. Okay, I'm not fully culturally culturally illiterate.
This is nice. This is nice to know.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Cuba Jenia doubt Fire. Yeah, and Sally Field was in it,
of course.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah. Yeah, Oh my gosh, it's run by Fruiting. Yeah,
so there's so many lines. It's one of those movies that,
like Lives Rent Free, I always think about it. It's
so it's like things constantly make me think of that movie.
So I love that this came out in January of
nineteen ninety four. I have no idea. All right, well
let's jump into this issue. X Men number twenty eight,
written by Fabian Iciers with art by Andy Kubert.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yes, and Fabian's been on our show before so twice twice. Yeah,
so you can go back to our archive and listen
to two episodes.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Yeah. Babianasa, the writer of this issue, was actually our
very first comic book guests. Oh yeah, yeah, like our
first comic book writer who said sure, I'll be on
your podcast, and he chose X Men one hundred way
back in the day. He chose that vintage issue and
that was really fun to go over with him. And

(21:33):
then we also did the iconic X Men twenty six
where Magneto pulls the metal out of Wolverine's body. So anyways,
if you guys want to listen to Baby and Nesas
to talk about those two issues. Go back in the
archives and find him. But we're here to talk about
X Men twenty eight with Crystal Lee.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
All Right, what do we see on the cover of Crystal.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Oh my gosh, we see the tango pose of a century.
What in God's name is happening here?

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Oh my gosh. Well, I will say, as a saber
tooth cosplayer, Jean Grays often want to do this pose
with me. This This is actually very hard to pose
as a human. I have tried to hold this pose,
but the angle of the arm and the position of
the legs, it's not atomically correct. But but it is
super fun to do this pose with Jean Gray cosplayers.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
What I love about it is, like you said, this
this dance. It looks like this dance that they're in
this you know, theoral fight mm.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Hmmm, yes, but also a little sensual not you know,
because she doesn't look scared. He looks scary, but she
doesn't look scared.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
You know, like's so close together.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Oh yeah, And when I think of Jean Gray, this
is what pops into my head. As far as her
costume goes, This classic nineties.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Look, yeah, for sure, that is an iconic look for her.
And when you know, when we were booking the Crystal
Lee voice of Jean Gray from Marvel Rivals, and we're like,
what issue are we going to do? This is the
first one that popped into my mind. This is like
an iconic gene, great issue for me. So it's so
exciting to be able to do this.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Cool, all right, so let's get into it. On the
first page, we see Jubilee. She is running in the forest.
This is very reminiscent of snow White running into the
Haunted forest and all the creepy.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
The dialogue, actually, the internal dialogue of this is fantastic.
And I know that your gene, but I would love
your take on Jubilee.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
It's actually been Jubilee in a different little property, Marvel Move.
Oh yes, and I was Jubilee.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
In that oh my god.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
This morning radio talk show thing with their Nightcrawler. It
was so much fun. So I Jubilee has a very
special place in my heart.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Well that is character I've done Marvel Move. And yeah,
we we had Ryan Panagos, who kind of helped spearhead
all of that on the podcast to talk about it.
So Marvel Move. Oh my gosh, guys, Yeah, it's Jubilee
of Marvel Move is on the podcast.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
I really loved, love to love that part, Like you know,
I was rocking out and I just loved you Belie
so much, so like you good in that.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Oh my gosh, thank you. And also it makes me
really happy that you didn't recognize so that makes my
heart happy.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
The narration in this page is front page. I think
it's fantastic and I thought it was Jubilee talking, but
it's actually just a narrator. So I'm going to narrate
this so out a Jubilee voice. Firecrackers. What can firecrackers
do against an Adam Baum? Roman? Candles, sparklers, pinwheels, useless.
Her name is Jubilation Lee. She is a mutant capable

(24:41):
of casting pyro technic explosions from her fingertips. A panic
sweat slides over her cold skin. She's the youngest resident
of the place that once seemed like home. He is
the oldest resident and also the newest. And what can
fireworks do to stop unrelenting engine of destruction like him?

(25:04):
And we have this scary sequence?

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yes, do you believe she falls into the mud and
there's rain and all over her and she's wet. And
then she sees Wolverine on the floor of this forest, dead,
just lying there, and she's like, wolver.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Rooney no, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
And then she hears a noise and there's a splat
of blood that falls from the sky right under her forehead.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Oh gosh. And then she looks up at she sees
Devil in the house at saber Tooth himself.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
N dun dumb.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Oh my god, what a terrifying creature to have in
your home. Can you imagine, like somebody that kills innocent
people on a whim and loves it and like just
completely murderous human. But yeah, wow, And she screams ah.
And then of course she wakes up and she's in bed.

(26:04):
That's a nightmare. And then of course Jean comes running in.
What does Jean say, Oh my god, wait, do you
want me to do both of them?

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Let's see, I'm gonna I'm gonna give it a shot,
stop me if it's awful. Okay, Okay, a nightmare, Okay,
kiddo came down. It was a nightmare. Nothing to be
afraid of. Jubilee, is everything all right? I just had
the Mando Master of Bad Dreams. I mean, like, it

(26:39):
was so real it scared the chinola out of me.
I can see that you were dead, and so was
Scott and Wolvey. He did it, he killed all of you.
It's okay, Jupe, it was only a nightmare. You're fine.
We're all fine. Hey, Scott, it's me. Do you hear me.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
I'm just gonna pause say that this is amazing. That
so good, so good. It's incredible character switch.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
I love that you picked like just out of nowhere.
It is toue where the two characters, the only two
characters in rovel that I've ever played. They talk to
each other. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
Yeah, oh my god, No, you're you're you're gymnastics of
jumping between the.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Oh yeah, it's flawless. Oh wow, yeah, it's it's like
I'm listening to two people.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Yeah, I know. I try not to look at the
screen because I wanted just to hear and I was like,
it's not like two different characters. Anyways, back to the issue.
Jeane is psychically summoning Scott. He's down in the hangar
working on the Blackbird. It's two am, by the way,
and she's like listen, we got to round up our buds.
We're calling storm, we're calling beasts. We're going out, and

(27:53):
he's like, where do you want to go? Easter Egg?

Speaker 2 (27:57):
We get a little tiny nightcrawler plushy.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Oh yeah, the jubilees sleeping.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
With Oh that is so cute.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
That's so cute.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
I didn't see that first.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
I've never seen cyclops where this kind of like workmen jumpsuit.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Before I'm into it, he's, yeah, an extra.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
The exte but like, what part of you? It's just
the landing gear, the engine. I don't know what this
looks like. It's just you know, squiggly lines. But yeah.
Jane puts Jubilee to rest and they go out to
Harry's hideaway, which apparently is open it two am.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Wow, people drink late over there.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I guess so well. I guess in New York. I
think most parts are open till four youm But regardless,
they are seated in a corner. Gene is telepathically shielding
beast from prying eyes so that they can have a
private conversation. And let's just read down her outfit. First
of all, Yeah, he has got tapered khakis on with

(29:00):
tiny black pumps. He's got a black mock turl neet
kind of tea or long sleeve shirt, and then this
striking green blazer.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
I love that she's stylish, she's eaten down and she's
just casually at two am.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
At two am, shoulder pads blazing.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
It's just got a blowout going and everything. I also
just love the way that her hair is always like
it's drawn like plumage. Yes, so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Yeah, absolutely the coloring of it as well. But yeah,
Beast looks like he was literally taken out of bed backward.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
It has this gruntled look on his face. I'm like,
that's me if someone were to be like, hey, we're
going to a bar or two am, but like must
we Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Oh my gosh, you can't see storms outfit. She's behind everybody,
and Scott is wearing a casual outfit. I've seen the
actually drawn a lot in this era. This is kind
of a blue jeans. He's got like a Chelsea loafer
on a probably a polo and the flight kind of
bomber jacket that he has. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
So the big drama here is that there is a
guest in the house.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
M M.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
I think we know his name.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
His name is Sabertooth. Yes, and they're not happy about this.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
No, And the reason why this guest is in the
house is because Exavier has him in the house. Yep.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
And now they're like questioning Xavier going like wait a minute,
like is he okay because he stole Magneto's mind from him?
You know, and that might be debatable, But two weeks
ago he asked a Worrow to still government documents for him.
What what is he doing?

Speaker 1 (30:46):
He's clearly lost his mind having no.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
He's lost the plot. What's going on?

Speaker 1 (30:53):
But then of course they debate that, you know, Rogue
and Gambit were villains, Sabertooth is a villain. They can
rea he could become a good, better person. Where is
the correct choice here?

Speaker 2 (31:06):
I mean right off the bat, though I would be
on the side of like, don't let him into our house.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
No, straight up. I mean, like, I I love that
they're talking about this too, Like they're like like for Gina,
be like, okay, this is enough. We got a call
him meeting, Like, guys, we didn't sign up for this
new roommate. Like can I know he's the landlord, but
can he just do that?

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (31:28):
Like it's crazy, and it's everyone stressed about it. And
I love that there's the argument back and forth because
that they're not all on the same page, like the
idea like, oh, well, you know, we have to give
room for people to reform, like we took a risk
with Gambit and Rogue as well, and then the back
like the flip side of it being like okay, yeah,
but like them wanted to change. We're not sure about

(31:49):
this guy. Yeah, like he this seems far out there.
Feels like there should be room in the middle to
make a different decision in this case. And yeah, love,
love love the drama of this discussion, which fundamentally boils
down to a hey, don't like the living situation. Yeah,

(32:10):
it's relatable, Like they're talking about this murdered this murder
man in the house. Yeah, and like fundamentally, this is
something I think a lot of us canna relate to.
It's like, hey, you're bringing the you're bringing fred over
a lot does live here now? Yeah? Yeah, because he's

(32:31):
got a met My Cheeto was like that kind of
you know.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Yeah, It's it's interesting, you know because at the baseline
of this whole issue is that they are very uneasy,
like like we'll get into more more you know, knity
greedy details about how Jeane can't even she doesn't even
know she can get married with him in the house.
Like there's like so much distraught energy because of this.
And on top of that, we have this scene with

(32:59):
Xavier and Elizabeth Braddock.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
Yep, we are back in the mansion now and Professor
Xavier is in his lab tinkering with all these machines
and we have Elizabeth Braddock strapped to a table. She's
being experimented on, being analyzed.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
Yeah, she has the Legacy virus, which is code for
AIDS in this era, and allegory they created this virus
that only affects mutants and she has this is a
complicated I'm just going to try to say this as
quickly as possible. This is this is when Psilock, Oh,

(33:38):
here we go, and Elizabeth bradach you, I know, I know,
you try to have to explain this. Why Okay, So
even though she calls herself Elizabeth bradg this is actually
canon the actual Japanese assassin woman's mind inside of Betsy Braddock's.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
I heard about this when I went reminded my like
hours long debris with my friend. He was like, yes,
there's an instance of like this, this British woman swapping
minds with this Japanese ninja woman or something.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Yeah, Asian assassin, yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Assassin lady. And so we just and then she just
kind of went with the aesthetic. Was like, all right,
nine day is GoF I guess?

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Yeah, I know. Seriously, so this is that complicated time.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
This woman that we're seeing is the British woman body
the Japanese lady's mind in her body.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yes, but she for some reason does not use her
real name. She calls herself Elizabeth Braddock, even though Xavier
knows he's because he like says, I think something about it,
like there's something about who you know the woman who
calls herself Elizabeth Braddack is It's like they know that's
not her. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Interesting, Well, you know she is looking worse for wear.
She is is just full on legacy virus here and
she doesn't want to stay professor. Actually just like, hey, look,
come and stay here for a little while longer. I
got this bomb from Hank when he was in Los Angeles.
You know, you can like help soothe it a little bit.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Bomb is in b a l m Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yeah, she sounds like bomb, like I've got a bomb.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Yeah. And then yeah, she's like, no, I don't want
to do that. I want to like do what I
want to do.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Yeah, I don't want to be experimented on and tested
and everything like that. And can you blame her.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
No, Like she's like, listen, I'm gonna go out the
way that I want to go out. I'm not here
to be poked and prodded.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I know. That's something. God, it's like relatable, but so
sad with the idea of like if you're staring down
the barrel of death, like what do you like? How
badly do you want to fight it? Versus enjoy the
time you have left?

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Yeah, no kidding. It's a quick moment because then Moira interrupts.
It's like Charles and this is my favorite tools by
the way, He's like, guess, Moira, could you join she
shine in my up the danger room control annex. Please.
It's about our patient. He's been acting up again, and
he's like pushing his nose bridge saying Lord, I'll be

(36:09):
right there because he knows that like obviously, Elizabeth, you know,
is like walking out on him, doesn't want to do
what he says, got this rowdy new guest of the house,
and he's like the dad that's just like rest.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Like just one thing.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Right expression that it was drawn on his face and
the just grim is I love it so But anyways,
they go into details about how Psilock aka you know
whatever Betsy Brannock inside of this body is uh supposed

(36:49):
to be giving a saber Tooth like a psychic knife
chill out injection as they say, God but she yeah, basically, yeah,
they do so.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
Many awful things to saber Tooth. I remember when they
threw him in a hole forever.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Roven solution to people's problems. I know for a bit
that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
It works. Anyways, saber Tooth kind of makes quick work
with her. You know, she is one super trained, deadly
ninja assassin, but he is able to subdue her, uh
and then kiss her and then throw her out the door. Yeah,
we don't love that, but that kind of gives us
the what it's all about is that he just kisses

(37:40):
her throws her out the door, and it's just like,
I didn't even like that. Sending the redhead.

Speaker 3 (37:46):
He's gross, yeah, so gross, damn yeah. No it's a
great it's a great snippet to like really nail down
who we're dealing with here, Like in case anybody didn't
know or forgot.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
He's.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
I think, you know, it just kind of shows how
irredeemable he is, you know, because they're worried about him
being violent, but he's also like kind of a jerk,
a big, big jerk, and a kind of rapist, you know,
all these things, Like it's really bad. Yeah, oh my god,
get him out of the house.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Get him out of here. He's not paying rent. We're
all nervous about him.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
But you know, to the defense of what this book
is about is they said that if they can change
him and he doesn't harm one more person after this moment,
isn't that worth it? Like all of the stress we're
going through, if they can change him, isn't worth it?

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Yeah, that question of like if we can redeem possibly
one of the worst people we've ever known, then doesn't
that say we can redeem anyone? To which I say,
screw it, kill him? Oh my god. Like I love
this because, like reading this, I find I'm very comfortably
in Jane's perspective here, where I'm like I don't want

(39:08):
him here mm hmm. The only thing that's keeping me
personally from not killing this guy is respecting the wish
of the person who's done so much for me and
trusting the process despite the fact that I am so stressed. Yeah,
like I wrote, like I love like I feel. I
feel very centered in her perspective here, because like, this

(39:30):
is the this is the viewpoint that I most relate to.
I'm like because because she can solve this problem, she
can she can single handedly make sure he doesn't ever
hurt anyone ever again. But that's but they all know that,
and like the lesson being like, what's what the real
goal is here? Isn't just to solve one problem. It's
to see if we can find a solution for this

(39:52):
problem that propagates out to solve a lot other like
a lot more, to solve the next faber tooth. Because
sure we could just we could just end all of
them as they come up. But like, that's that is
just fundamentally not as I guess good, as learning how
to make them not bad.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
So you know something I just learned is that saber
Tooth is a very hungry mutant. Yes, he eats ten
full meals and you know it's time to eat again,
and they're suggesting, why don't you just throw them some
red meat, some raw meat?

Speaker 1 (40:34):
Yeah, and they're like, oh, nice one. They're like, well, truly,
what it does is it slows down their metabolism and
makes them chew and chill and stuff, so it actually
might be good him like.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
A big dog.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
Yeah, the rogue volunteers. She's going to bring him the meal,
and again it's going to escort her because he's like,
hell no, you're going to talk to that man by yourself.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
And she's like, I could be good. Be literally we
cannot touch me. But okay, okay, sweetie.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Ooh we have some fashion looks here, Yes we do.

Speaker 1 (41:07):
What are you seeing that?

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Less your hot take Crystal on Gambit's look.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
On Gambits look, I mean, listen, I think he's rocking
that ripped sleeve. We're looking at this that we're looking
at the same page. Yeah, some of them kind of
like facing each other a little bit like quarter turned out. Yep,
I listen, Gambit's rocking that ripped shirt sleeving. He's letting
those he's letting the guns ripple out. But yeah, I'm
really but I'm really loving Rogues outfit specifically, Like I'm

(41:32):
seeing this like healed sneaker thing going on, like or healed.
It's like it's got sneaker lacing. But it's like a cool.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Boot and yeah with leggings. Is that a little pop rint?

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Yes, that's so cute.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
I know.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yeah, look she's serving, she's serving.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
Yeah, those leggings.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
Yeah, the leggings with the bootstraps and everything. So yeah,
I want to know why Gambit is where wearying the sweatpants,
the ripped T shirt and then boots.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
I was gonna say, I think that the boots are
the thing that's incongruous here.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
But yeahs tucked into boots, I guess. You know, he
is a man of mystery.

Speaker 3 (42:15):
Yeah, and he's ready to he's ready to go. These
boots were made for walking.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
So they you know, open the door and they start
to go in and it's all dark and mysterious, and
they're all the furniture is messed up. Saber Tooth is
just destroying his little cell.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
Yes, and they are bringing the meat. They're able to
get it through the laser door. That kind of keeps
him at bay. And he's able to grab a big
it's like a tea dunk steak.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
When he says, Lebou, you'll get yours for this, Oh.

Speaker 1 (42:50):
Yeah, because Remy's like teasing him, poking and prodding, and
rogues like, do not poke this bear, Like let's not
antagonize this monster.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
Mail in interaction like we just like we just came,
we just came to drop this off. We can go,
And they're like like you there.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
Yeah, the best, Oh my gosh, the best is So
they're going back and forth, and then saber Tooth he's speaking.
You can't see him. He's in the complete blackness, and
he's just got this little wispy, smoky word bubble that
comes out, which makes me just feel like he's just
kind of whispering, just like whatever.

Speaker 2 (43:29):
But and Rogue leads him or begins with for all
his attitude, gambits an X men now and in his
heart he feels the same way I do. We will
stop the killing, he.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Says, Really, girl, the only thing le Beau feels in
his heart is the need to break yours. That's the
thing he's best at stealing people's hearts, their.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
Trust, better than to be like you and tearing people's
hearts out instead, he's saber tooth.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
I think not. Oh maybe one day I'll tell your
little Philly about Paris. Then we'll see what she starts
thinking to.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
You, Why don't you town men?

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Now I just listening to you guys, go ah, yeah,
we're not actors. We are pretenders, but we pretending.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Hey, acting, a lot of it starts in pretending. I
think I mentioned once, like a little snippet earlier, I
love reading out loud. Webcomics is a large part of
how I started doing this acting. So yeah, keep going, yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
But yeah, I love I love the drama. It's so good.
And uh yeah, Creed start leaping out of the shadows.
Now now he's showing himself and he's just basically I
was gonna tear about these people. And Gambit throws up
his card says that is enough, Creed, and then he
kind of pops the squad and he's just like, I
just I'm just getting started, man, Like you already jumped

(45:05):
to ten. I'm only at three, man, you know.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Yeah, but I love this this next bit of tea
that he just spilled all over Rogue and Gambit people.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
I wanted to ask all about this because what do
you mean longa brother?

Speaker 1 (45:22):
I know what it means.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
Yes, and so Gambit says that is enough.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
Creed that even the start Cajun check this one out.
It's even new to me. Rogue. You call Mistique your
mother because she raised you since you were a pup, right,
and what if she did well, then next time you
see her, ask her how your long lost brother is doing?

Speaker 2 (45:45):
And the door closes.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
Right. I love the drama. I love it long lost brother.
What do you mean, holy soap opera?

Speaker 1 (45:55):
Because saber Tooth and Mistique have a child together.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
What Oh? I thought that he could not get hotter
and I was so wrong.

Speaker 1 (46:04):
So he's just like, you know, I have fathered a
step brother for you, young lady.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
He just dropped it in that moment, right on her.

Speaker 1 (46:23):
And that child goes on to become the leader of
Friends of Humanity. Oh wow, yeah, yeah, wow Grade and Creed, Wow,
that's right, big villain.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
Oh you had me. You had me in the first
half when you said Friends of Humanity.

Speaker 2 (46:40):
I was like, oh yay, no no no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
No no no. Well it's three am and we're in
Professor Exavier study. Oh we get this great gene lines.
Are you ready? Are you ready to give your opus? Oh?

Speaker 3 (46:53):
My god, Professor Charles, I hope you realize our questioning
of the decision you've been making lately only come out
of the concern we feel for you.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
I do, actually I expected it. But my decisions are
my own, gene, and they have been extremely difficult ones
to make. These are difficult timesaps, perhaps the most so
since I founded the X Men. The loss of both
Peter and Logan hit me especially hard, yes, as it
did all of us, And there hasn't been a night

(47:27):
I haven't lain awake thinking about Iliana and Magnus. But
do either of you think that I've lost sight of
our goals?

Speaker 3 (47:36):
No, sir, I'm sorry it came across that way. We're
more worried about your methods lately. They just don't seem
like you.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
We know things have been stressful, Professor. We know you
feel guilty about Ileana's death and about what happened with Magneto.
We just want you to be sure that taking greeden
like this, even as a prisoner, isn't simply a way
of seeking some sort of compensation for.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
A guilty conscience. There may be some truth to that concern, sCOD,
but in retrospect it is hardly the motivating consideration behind
my decision.

Speaker 3 (48:15):
Professor. I understand what went into this decision, believe me,
and I know it wasn't undertaken lightly. But that doesn't
mean I have to agree with it.

Speaker 1 (48:25):
Oh no, of course it doesn't, Gene, and I'm sorry
we disagree, But this decision is completely in keeping with
the ideals and beliefs I've held all my.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Life, Professor, you weren't in the more Luck tunnels when
Sabertooth and the Marauders decimated all those people. You don't
understand how much sheer pleasure he derived from from killing
innocent beings in cold blood. You didn't hear their screams.

Speaker 1 (48:53):
Don't you think I know that I know exactly what
Sabertooth is, Gene. He represents everything we've always fought against.
But an opportunity has presented itself in which we may
be able to prevent him from ever harming another person again.
A dangerous mutant can be neutralized. Do you suggest we
refuse to take it? No one ever said this road

(49:15):
would be an easy one, or the burden a light
one to carry. But I would rather my mistakes come
from trying too hard rather than not trying at all.
As I retire for the evening, Gene, think about that
if you will, and thank you. I have never asked
any of you to follow me blindly. I'm glad to
see you feel free to tell the old man off

(49:38):
every now and then ooh and he exits and oohaps
a loone and Cyclops is all like, Gene, what's wrong
with you?

Speaker 2 (49:47):
You're not acting like yourself at all. First you criticized
him for acting out of anger, and now you do
it when he acts out of compassion.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
Don't you see, Scott, We're about to make a major
change in our lives getting married. Making that decision was
hard enough considering how we live. But with Sabertooth here, somehow,
some way, it unnerves me, It frightens me, Scott Jean.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
This has nothing to do with our wedding or what
just happened between Cable and us. This is about Logan,
isn't it done?

Speaker 1 (50:20):
Dune dum?

Speaker 3 (50:24):
That's like zoom in on her face and shadow is delicious.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
Hello, I know how you felt, still do I guess
I understand it too. The fire burning inside him, the
dangerous side of things can be incredibly exciting. I can
see how that excitement always appealed to you. You and
he always shared that passion for life.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
Please, Scott, please, it was a long time ago, a confusing.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
Time, Jean. It's important we talk about these things. I
know how angry you were when Wolverine was hurt so bad.
We all were. But we have to respect his decision
to leave.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
When I first met Wolverine, heard him, argued with him
that first night in the garden, it wasn't so much
what I saw on him as what he made me
see in myself. It frightened me. I saw a side
I didn't think existed, a side I liked. What does

(51:24):
that say about the kind of person I am, Scott.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Honey, It only means you're human like the rest of us.

Speaker 1 (51:36):
Anyways, just to skip through, we are going to go
to the big meat of this.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
Is like because Moyer is like you know, Creed, He's
causing a problem again.

Speaker 3 (51:50):
And it's like, oh, I'm sorry, does he need something?
Does he need something right now?

Speaker 1 (51:58):
But she's gonna do it. Because he doesn't do it,
she'll never be able to get over having this man
in the house, so she's like, it's time, buddy. Basically,
we've got Moira and Sean Cassidy aka Banshee monitoring just
to make sure everything's okay. They're in like an observation room,
and we've got Jeane in her awesome nineties outfit.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
Yes, but they kind of allude to the fact that
Jeane isn't gonna go over there to give him some
raw meat. She's gonna go over there to kill him,
to murder Sabertooth in his cell. So she stands in
front of the invisible defense grid, feeling her heart pound.
Why is she so tense, so angry? She can change

(52:45):
his mind as easily as she can change her own.
She can break every bone in his body without having
to lift a single finger. What is she afraid of?

Speaker 1 (52:55):
Then?

Speaker 2 (52:55):
Really? Him or herself?

Speaker 1 (53:00):
You'd come, Red, sooner or later you had to come.

Speaker 3 (53:05):
You're awfully sure of yourself, Creed. Care to tell me why?

Speaker 1 (53:09):
Because of him? Because a logan, I'm just like him.
You know that, don't you.

Speaker 3 (53:16):
Red.

Speaker 1 (53:17):
I'm the dark reflection in the mirror, and it scares
you so bad you can taste it. You're afraid you're
about to lose to forever? Ain't you red? You know,
Logan and me were two sides of the same coin.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
And now he lunges at her.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
You felt something for him, Everyone knows that. Tell me,
how do I make you feel your blood boiling yet? Babe?
Oh yeah?

Speaker 2 (53:44):
She just psychically blasts saber tooth.

Speaker 3 (53:47):
You're tough, aren't you?

Speaker 2 (53:48):
Creed Defense Security grid Disengaged, she presses the button on
the wall.

Speaker 1 (53:54):
Whoa did she just shut down the grid as the
observation people are doing. But yeah, cyclops, he is just
like yo. She can take care of herself.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Yeah, he wants. Uh, she's okay, because they did. She
did that in order to walk into his cell and
meet the devil face to face.

Speaker 3 (54:16):
I look at you, and I wonder, does he really
think he can get to me? It couldn't be your crudity.
Your viciousness is meant to intimidate me. Sorry, Bell, it
doesn't work.

Speaker 2 (54:31):
And she is just kind of hovering with all that
pink electric energy around her, that psychic energy, and his
saber tooth is just fried on the floor, and.

Speaker 1 (54:42):
He says, no, I'm sure it. Don't you need something
else out of me like this? And he does a
swipe at her with his claws.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
You're joking, aren't you. You're a firecracker, Creed, and I'm
an adam bomb. I know how badly you can hurt me.
But have you ever stopped to think how it might
feel to be raked by those claws you so callously
flail about. I can make you think it, make you
feel them if you like.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
Ah yeah, And he gets flung all the way across
the room, head first, cracking his neck right into the
wall with a slump.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
Mum, you're a good girl. You're tougher than you let out.
I can see what Logan saw on you, frail, What
is it like? Red? Wanna tell me?

Speaker 3 (55:35):
Don't mention Logan again? Creed? Is that clear?

Speaker 2 (55:39):
She is blasting him again? He is just flying into
the air, crashing into the other side of the room.

Speaker 3 (55:45):
You're not even in his league. You want the truth?
There was something between the two of us, a bond,
a deep, loving friendship. But you can't understand that. Logan
is a man of spirit, He has a soul, Creed,
and you you're afraid to admit how pathetic your entire

(56:06):
life has been, living day to day, from one fixed
to the next. And what is your drug of choice? Creed?
Is the cold blooded murder of people the answer to
your addiction? Or is it the mind numbing glow you
look for when your psyche is held together by a
salve that robs you of conscience?

Speaker 2 (56:27):
Ooh, and you could see that he is being psychically
grasp in his head by gene in her power and
it hurts M.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
I don't know which, and I don't care.

Speaker 3 (56:36):
Really well, you better care, Creed, You really really better.
Coming here didn't solve your problem, Creed, It was merely
the first step to ending your threat. The X men
like Logan may seem weak to someone like you, Creed,
but I assure you cross us and you'll wish you'd

(56:59):
never been born.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
And he is just on the floor, passed out, almost
just not barely conscious.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
Have I made myself clear?

Speaker 1 (57:12):
You push me? Red? I feel it coming on. I
need the glow that Bertie gave me. I need it now,
ask for it. Give me the glow? Please? No, what
do you mean? No?

Speaker 3 (57:29):
Bertie gave you the glow because you threatened her. Well,
she's dead, saber tooth, and you don't scare me. You
want the glow? Find it on your own deal with
what you are, with what you've done, Face up to
your crimes, creed, and to your victims. Stop running away
for once because there's no place to run, and then maybe,

(57:53):
just maybe you'll face the world like the rest of us.
The question you have to ask yourself, Sabertooth is do
you have the guts to do it?

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Saber Tooth is left at that moment just completely desponded,
and he has to think about what she just said,
because that was deep, that was powerful, that was cutting.
You know, Jean Gray dropped that mic big time.

Speaker 1 (58:21):
She's like, beg for it.

Speaker 3 (58:23):
No, no, like I just like like she just it's
the breaking of the spirit that I think really needs
to happen in order for him to be like you
need to trigger that ego death somehow. Yeah, boy, did
she do it? Because the other option is like listen,
like the amount of power that she's displaying here, it's
like I could end you. You know that. Do you

(58:44):
honestly think you can hurt me? Because you're like, if
you if you genuinely believe that, you're deluding yourself and
that's that's what's getting in your way from being something
better than this. Like I think she forces him to
face that, and it's just so delicious. God, it's like, oh,
the whole lesson like walloped him, like psychically, but more

(59:07):
with the words is favorite.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
Mm hmmm. So now with the epilogue, here we are
in the morning time, no longer at three am in
the morning. The sun is out, and Jean and Jubilee
are cooking breakfast, making bacon and eggs. Oh do you do?

Speaker 1 (59:27):
We get another.

Speaker 3 (59:30):
If you want it? I don't want to.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Out.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Okay, let's close it out. Can I get a setting
of the scene.

Speaker 1 (59:40):
We are high above the X mansion. We see a bird,
and we have Jubilee and Jean in the kitchen.

Speaker 3 (59:49):
Any more nightmares, Jubilation, Yeah, little kids have nightmares, jeanster me,
I get traumatic evening episodes. Then why are you so
intent on doing this? Listen? If I don't do something
about how he gives me the flaming he be GBI's
right now, I never will you know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1 (01:00:11):
Yes, I do, and she do?

Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
She really do, just had to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:18):
So Jubilee grabs a giant tray of bacon, so much
bacon in fact, and eggs. This is like so much
food and it's a huge tray. She said to the
Oh my gosh, and sets it down, you know, in
his cell and we see Sabertooth and he is like meditating,

(01:00:38):
you know, he is reflecting on probably what just happened.

Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
And then he says, kid, yeah, till Red.

Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
She's the one with guts, real guts, Tiller Logan couldn't
have done better.

Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
She doesn't know what to say, so she doesn't say anything.
This trip didn't help her fear go away in many ways.
His words brusque and guttural only made it worse. And
Jubilee wonders.

Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
Is this what it's always going to be like with him? Here?
Is this how he's always going to make me feel?

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
Part of you know, someone like him has to be
dealt with, and the other just wishing he never existed.
She sees the look in Jean's eyes, the concern, and
she knows the answer is yes.

Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
And scene yes.

Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
The next issue is Silock at Archangel the hell Fire Club.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Well that's fun. Oh my gosh, thank you so much
for real issue to life with us.

Speaker 3 (01:01:45):
Like showing me this issue. I don't I don't know
when or if I'd ever even have found it without
you guys being like you gotta read this one and
it's just so good.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
What was your favorite part?

Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
I Well, it has to be the confrontation, right, like that,
That's what the entire issue is building up to. It's
that confrontation between her and saber tooth, and like the
real like that, and tying into the ending like this
overall lesson and the idea of like is this always
what it's going to be? Like knowing like someone like
him has to be dealt with while the other part

(01:02:17):
of you wishes he never existed, but knowing that erasing
him from existence isn't what's going to fix the larger issue,
and sitting in that discomfort and like, you know, like
is it always going to be like this? Like the
short answer, yes, but we choose that we choose to
deal with that, even if we have the power to
take an easier solution, we choose to believe there's a

(01:02:38):
better way to solve the problem. And I don't know,
I just I love that, especially because it just feels
really relevant, relevant to present times. We don't have to
talk about the current state of the world because it's crazy,
but I feel like it's a really poignant lesson for
right now, because I find myself thinking a lot about
like I sympathize a lot with Jane here and Jublie

(01:02:59):
honestly like the idea of like I would love to
solve this the easy way or what like the most
direct way that I know how, and then reconciling it
with the people in my life who I think have
a gentler approach to things and who want to be
that beacon of optimism and like to see how far
we can get to the ideal world where we try

(01:03:20):
a gentle approach and it works better and it results
in the kind of world that we'd like to live
in rather than perhaps the current reality. And I feel
like there's a lot to learn there. And so this
issue it felt, it felt very relevant to the things
that I think about in my current life. And so yeah,
thank you for introducing it to me.

Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Oh my gosh, you're so welcome. And I can't believe
we're over thirty years since this issue came out, So
that's wild. And how the parallels can still exist.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
They do, they really do, oh gosh. And I like
that it has that like bittersweet isn't even the right
way to describe it. It's like not a completely like
there's no bow to tie on this ending, Like he's
still there. Everyone is still very tense in the house,
but it feels like a little bit of air has
been let out of that balloon in a way that

(01:04:10):
you don't feel like it's about to pop, but it's
still tense and like stretched and like it could still
pop with enough pressure, but you feel like you've moved
the needle a little bit away from that, and you
just have to hope that more happens to like eventually
like deflate this issue and it becomes it becomes something
different other than like just a pressure bubble waiting to pop.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
I like that a lot, Like the story doesn't have
a neat resolution and why would it, right, people are complicated?

Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
Wow? Yeah, well that was awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
Yeah, where tell us? Where can we all find you
and follow you online?

Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Totally? I'm on Twitter or I guess it's called X
now I'm not savvy at Crystal le Vo and it's
c R Y S D A L l e e
v O, and then on Instagram it's Crystal Why le
Vo like the letter I leave you? Why are they different? Well,
someone took Crystal Levio on Instagram, and I have yet

(01:05:06):
to hunt them down and kill them. The answer to
that question Adam, So that's where I am. And yeah,
I also you can look me up on my website,
Crystal Wyley dot com for anything else about me. Thank
you guys so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
Thank you that much for joining us. All right, everybody,
now it's time for the Uncanny News segment.

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
News news News.

Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
We have done all sorts of exciting things in the meantime.
It's been a while since we've updated everyone, So let's
start with the Uncanny Experience.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Yes, there are so many new exciting things happening there. Yes,
we should start with the first item.

Speaker 1 (01:05:48):

so we have big announcements coming up in January. So

of the House Brotherhood versus House Sinister Battle, and all

(01:06:11):
sorts of exciting things. So if you guys are fans
of Uncanning Experience, stay tuned for early January.

Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
That's right, you think that we are hibernating in our
homes doing nothing but watching X Men cartoons and drinking
hot coco right now.

Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
But you're wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
We are behind the scenes, busy planning and plotting for
an epic senior year at Xavier Institute. I echo what
Chandler Chandler said. Please follow us on all platforms, stay tuned.
You are going to be amazed.

Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
Yes. Also, we recently hosted a anniversary event for the
video game Marvel Rivals. We got to work with Marvel
Games and net Ease Games to produce an awesome celebration.

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
It was really cool, that's right, and it was packed
that thing like sold out and then some.

Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Yeah you know. We rented a sound stage in Burbank
and we installed all sorts of cool activations. We brought
in fifteen voice actors as well as creators of the game,
and we hosted a day of panels autographs. We had
a squirrel toss activation with Squirrel Girl and stuff squirrels

(01:07:33):
that you tossed into nets and got to win prizes
from Kakowaw cards. You got to collect Marvel Rivals trading cards. Overall,
it was it was super cool.

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
Yeah, like big shout out to Ray our friend over
at Querity Gamers for spearheading the gaming section of our event.
You know, everybody was able to play Marvel Rivals on
the computer stations, and our cosplay guests that came in
and really you know, helped rev up the crowd, especially

(01:08:04):
with their opening ceremony. That was a lot of fun. Yeah,
I will say it was torrential downpour.

Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Yeah, that was wild.

Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
It was so wild, and people came out and the
line was wrapped around the block and then some and
even after we got all the people that had rcp'ed in,
I went out and took a poll and I was like, Yo,
does anybody else have an RSVP in line? And nobody
raised their hand. That huge line were just people that

(01:08:37):
were just wishing and hoping on the off chance that
they can get in.

Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
That's crazy. Well, they did show up in droves in
the rain, and and it was a blast. You know,
I will say I had a great time. I'm sorry
that we couldn't fit everybody in. If you're listening and
you weren't able to get in, we're sorry. You know,
there's building capacity couldn't go beyond a certain number. You
guys showed up like insane numbers. I know, in the

(01:09:05):
very last hour, we were able just to kind of
forget that we're accounting and just let a bunch of
people in at the very last hour.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
So yeah, that's right, and I'm just glad that Big
Pin was there on hand to you know, provide awesome
fig pins to our attendees. They gave us some boxes
to give out to everybody that was waiting in line.
So I went out there and had an alt yl contest,

(01:09:32):
you know, for everybody. So I'd yell out a character.
I'd be like, all right, Silock, and then everybody would
yelled Silock's ultimate which.

Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Is shown no MONOCREI or watch me sore.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Okay, cool, yes, and you know they would win, like
you know, a giant iron Man fig pin as an example.
So that was a blast. And we had our Jeff
the Shark statue as our centerpiece when he walked in
and that was donated to us by.

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
By Ernie or he goes by Sentinel on Instagram. Mm hmmm, yeah,
oh it was cool. It was great, So I want
to do it again. I love the game. It's so
fun to celebrate it with the fans. We were able
to kind of create you know, do our brand of
immersive entertainment, but with you know, convention elements. So it

(01:10:30):
was kind of a hybrid event as we tend to do,
and and it was it just was so much fun. Well,
we have to say the cake, of course, there was.
There was an amazing multi tiered cake made by Stephanie Barron,
she's the wife of Daniel Marron, the voice of Naymore.
And it was awesome and we got to celebrate that

(01:10:51):
with the full cast and creatives and we had Jordan
Blasa Olsen as Glacta, yes, the kind of figurehead here
of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
Yeah. And you can follow her at the Girl with
a great smile if you enjoy cosplay and nerdery and
X Men stuff. That cake, I swear to you, was
the best cake ever.

Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
It was really good. I'm actually sad that I didn't eat.

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
More of it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
And we got Stephanie I love you. Yeah, And there
was a cosplay contest and there was a custom light
up trophy for Marvel Rivals first year anniversary.

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
That was awesome. It was cool and we had a
lot of cool prizes donated too. Entertainment Earth came through
with really cool merchandise. There was like a bunch of helmets,
like a Wolverine helmet and a Doctor Doom helmet and
all sorts of really awesome collectibles. Razor the computer hardware company,

(01:11:50):
they sent a package of a new keyboard, mouse and
headset for gamers, and so that was awesome. All of
the sponsors really pulled through in an amazing way.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Yeah, I think a special moment for me was with
Danny Huerta. He is an official Marvel cous player. You
might know him as the Red Guardian, and he makes
props and he made props for most of the guests
that were in attendance. He made Namers staff, he made

(01:12:25):
Silock sword, he made Adam Warlock staff, like everything, and.

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
They looked so good.

Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
And he was able to go around to present all
of these props to the actors and they were able
to pose with them throughout the day. And then Danny
was on a panel at the end of the day
for content creators in the Marvel Rivals sphere. So you know,
seeing him, you know, being able to show his talent

(01:12:51):
and have a platform to shine, you know, that brought
a lot of warmth to my heart. And if you
want to learn more about Daniel Huerta. You can go
back an episode or two on x reads podcast here
and listen to our Halloween episode.

Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Mm hmmm. Yeah, he got to read the voice of Mephisto,
among others. So that was fun. It was fun. Well
beyond Rivals, you went to New Orleans.

Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
All that's right. I have been on a whole comic
con tour, y'all that's true.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
You like New York, Baltimore, like, there's a bunch.

Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Yeah, I've been traveling with the X Men. Uh mostly
the Legacy cast. New York was a blast. I think
I may have talked about that one already, but you know,
there was also New Orleans, which was a big highlight
for me. I got to spend Thanksgiving on the Creole

(01:13:47):
Queen paddle boat, you know, which is in the Mississippi River,
and we toured around the Mississippi and got to enjoy
a live jazz band and it was me and Lynn
or Zan the voice of Rogue in Marvel Rivals now too,
by the way, as well as X Men, And yeah,

(01:14:09):
that was pretty magical. I loved it and we got
to take some tours. I enjoyed the city. The convention
was fun. I got to walk down uh Bourbon Street
with Cal Dodd and his wife and also Katherine Disher
who plays Jean Gray, and it was just such a

(01:14:31):
joyful experience. And then me and Allison Seeley Smith who
plays Storm, hopped in a cab and an uber over
to Frenchman Street and caught a blue show and she
bought me a couple of hurricanes.

Speaker 1 (01:14:45):
Thanks. I mean, like, you know, so.

Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
I storm Gate or Storm gave me a couple of
hurricanes on the night on the town losing Jazz. That
that was epic, you know, and the magic continues, like
there are so many amazing, cool things that are happening
and I'm so grateful to be able to do them.

Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
Yeah. Absolutely, I know you were at you were recently
at a Christmas party with the Marvel Rivals team and
Lenore and everybody. Oh that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Yeah, that was for Bright Skull. Bright Skull is the
company that does all the voiceover recording for the video
games and they do a lot of like animes and
animation as well. But yeah, it was a house full
of voice actors and it was so cool because as
you're talking to everybody, you're realizing, wow, you know, These

(01:15:43):
voice actors are so talented and they play so many
iconic characters. You would think one voice actor voice is
one iconic character, but then you look at their resume
and you're like, oh my god, there are also like
five other things that I love.

Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
Oh yeah. I mean when we had Kari Walgren on,
we were went through her her roster of talent and
her roles and we're just like, wow, you're this and
this and this and this.

Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
You're also Katiana for Mortal Kombat was.

Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Yes, I know so much. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
And then I love filming social media content for the
actors because they like to do little skits. And we
did one where it was a Winter Soldier and Adam
Warlock getting their powers sucked from Rogue, And then there
was Silock and Lenor are Rogue doing you know when

(01:16:39):
Rogue sucks Siloc's power and says Cyonata.

Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Yeah, So we did a bunch of little skits. So
go to the Marvel Rivals actors. If you go to
Giant Size Productions, you will see a bunch of photos

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
