Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
This is Chandler, and this is Chris.

Speaker 3 (00:03):
And I'm Maggie Blue O'Hara, and you're listening to reading
the podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
We're back, everybody with another episode, Episode one. It has
been a while, Chris, we have been on a little hiatus.
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
We have a lot going on, a lot of events,
a lot of X Men adventures and Marvel Rivals adventures too.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah. Absolutely, well. One thing, of course that we're gearing
up for that everybody knows is the Uncanny Experience, and
we are so excited that we have a very special guest,
Maggie Blue O'Hara, who is also going to be a
guest at the Uncane Experience. Welcome Maggie.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Thank you so much. Guys, I'm really happy to be
here with you and get excited about next month's Uncanny Experience.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yes, yes, yeah, well we are so excited to have
you on the show. I mean, we would have had
you on the show regardless of Umcan't Experience because we
are big Katy Pride fans. We have read so many
comics that feature Kitty Pride. We love her stories, especially
written by Chris Claremont, and it's such an honor to
have you on the show as you are like the

(01:13):
official Kitty Pride voice. You know, you obviously voiced her
in X Men Evolution, but she doesn't exist in X
Men ninety seven or x Men the animated series, so
you're the quintessential Kitty for us. All.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Thank you so much. I'm super excited that you are
having me today, and I'm honored to be Kitty Pride.
It was a great experience, and yeah, she's cool and
she's powerful, and it was really a cool experience to
be able to be her voice.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
So when did you first learn about the X Men
in your life? Was it when you got this audition
or did you have some exposure to the franchise before that,
either through like comic books, video games, movies, what have you?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Right? I mean, as a young girl, X Men wasn't
something that I was super attracted to. I was more
like care Bearers and Smurfs and that kind of thing.
But then as I got older and I was about
to do this voice, when I did the audition, I

(02:18):
was like, okay, like let's do more research about it,
and realized how cool it was. And you know, actually,
on my father's side, the creator of Superman. I think
his last name is Schumann. He was one of the
creators of Superman. So that idea of superheroes being like

(02:39):
in my blood or something, I always liked that idea
of And so when I found out that I got
this rule and understood more about the mutants being in
Xavier School, it really made me excited that I was
a part of this. So I hadn't heard really much
about it before, but now I'm stoked that I'm part
of the legacy.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
What was the audition process like.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Back in those days before COVID, everybody would go to
the sound studio and meet casting directors, be in the
sound studio, be able to go to We did it
at Ocean Sound, which is actually kind of a famous
sound studio with a lot of other Japanese anime recording

(03:25):
sessions that we did, but that place is quite iconic
for a Vancouver sound studio with a lot of experience,
like history. I should say. I went in there and
met the casting directors, and I think I did a
second audition too, like a callback, and then just got
the rule, and I was super excited. I didn't know

(03:47):
what was going to actually be four years so I
just thought maybe like twelve episodes or whatever it was
going to be, but it went for I think four years.
It was a great experience.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, I was. I just was at a con and
I was able to have Brad Swale, who's the voice
of night Crawler on the show. He was on a panel.
He says, Hi, by the way, he says, he misses you.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
But yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
One thing he brought to my attention was that the
show one multiple Emmys and was nominated. And I thought
that was really fascinating to learn, because you know, X
Men Evolution is a show that I missed in my
youth because I was too old as it was coming out,
and I'm now I'm appreciating it so much now that
we're twenty five years later. He mentioned anime, and I

(04:37):
know you have a ton of other anime characters in
your roster. Yes, and I mean just to just to
you know, rattle off a few. I know that we've
got the Dragon ball Z character Buma, but the one
character that stands out to me is your character Madison
in Card Captor Sukera, because I love that show. Chris
and I have a history with this show.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
We sure do, right, isn't it interesting? What's your guys' history.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Well, the history is the fact that my best friend
here Chandler, has been hounding me all the time, like
every month he bring this up. You gotta watch this show.
We love Sailor Moon. If you love Sailor Moon, you
like X Men, you're gonna love this Card Captor show.
And I just have not watched yet. It's in my
watch list. I'm going to get to it. Is there

(05:26):
anything that you can tell me to get over?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yes. What is cool about it is that it's Tarot
cards spirits all going around the towns and the cities,
and they have this cute, little, perfect, little anime cute
see team, Like on my character, she films it all,
so she's like the best friend who films it all.
And then there's the star Sakura and she's got this

(05:49):
magical wines and they go on these missions to find
these spirits of the Tarot cards who are creating a
little bit of drama and mischief and creating a whole
conflict for each episode, and then they do their magical
spells these little tiny girls and then wrangle the spirits
back into the car. That's what it's about. And each
episode is different.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, different, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
I gotta see this, I gotta see this. I love
her too.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
He loves her. He collects Troo decks. I keep telling
him to watch Card Capture sucker up.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
And there's this iconic song that my character sang, the
Wings of the Dream, and like, it's like this song
that it's kind of become. Anyways, for fans who like
that show, they've listened to it lots, and they're like,
I love her voice. I just saw recently somebody doing
comments about that and I thought, wow, that was a
long time ago. But it's given people a lot of joy.

(06:43):
So that's I'm grateful for them.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
That's awesome. Well, I love that you're so well versed.
There's many other characters that we haven't even gotten into,
but we're next podcast. But no, I don't care.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I don't care because we're both Baroni's my friend and
not not go off into the X Men world yet
without mention stun Rise from my little pony friendship is magic.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Thank you. Yes, I mean gosh, that show, you know
I was. I did that episode and it was so
fun to be in the room with all the other
actresses who have been on that show for many years
and actually knew a few of them because we had
worked on other series together, so it was nice to
be back with a lot of them. And you know,

(07:26):
I was actually on the original My Little Pony series
that was maybe around four years as well of a
contract My Little Ponytails. I was Sweetheart, the little white
pony with the pink hair and the pink hearts on
the bumb like back in the eighties when everyone was
first buying the dolls. That show was called My Little
Pony Tails. So I was on both series, which is also.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
An Honora.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
You know that's gonna be on my watch list now too.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Absolutely, of course.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
That character Sweetheart, she sings a song with this little
bratty one, like a braddy boy pony talking about Bronie's
So he was a braddy boy pony and nobody else
liked him because he was such a troublemaker. And she
sings this song.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
You don't know the boy like I too.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
And sings this whole little light on his side kind
of story. You know, That's how I first started singing,
with so many shows want the little voices to sing,
and then after doing so many shows like that, I
was like, you know, I really love to sing, and
now I'm still singing making music. I might actually go
up tonight and sing at an open mic with a friend.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Fun. Yeah, amazing, Well that is great.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I love that music is a big part of your life.
I can sense that from you.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
The voice.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, you have a great voice. I have had a
curiosity what would Katy Pride's song be if she were
to get up into karaoke?

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Recently, my daughter and I we hang out a lot.
I love her, but love being a mom. We were
at this there's all these parks along the beaches in Vancouver,
and in the summer it's just so nice to go
from park to beach to park to beach along this bikeway.
It's just this gorgeous area in Vancouver. And there's this
one big tree and it has somebody has makeshifted a

(09:14):
tree swing. So just I think it was yesterday we
found the tree swing and we're swinging and we were
singing the song Chandelier by Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I
don't know, I'm just gonna say that song even though
it has nothing to do with phasing or anything, but
like maybe she's just like slays like that or that's
like when she sings that song in the shower, Kitty
Pride feels fierce.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
I could see that. Yeah, definitely, it.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Has your daughter seen evolution.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Oh, I feel like she has seen clips a bit,
but because she was born in twenty ten and then
I was so focused on at that time. When she
was born, I was doing a theater company in Hong Kong,
and I was co artistic director of a multi media,
bi lingual dance theater company where we did a bunch

(10:04):
of cool productions, and when she was born, we actually
put her in a few of the final pieces that
we did. So I would say she's seen like clips
when I'm like getting prepared for this kind of thing,
you know, or like I'm making my website, or like
she sometimes is like you're famous, mom, Like I want

(10:26):
to see what you've done because people people in the
city know me or they like they're like, you're Maggie
Blue O'Hara, this kind of thing. I'm a little well
known in the city just as an actress over the years,
and so yeah, recently she has seen it and she
thinks it's cool and she's like your famous momm Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Well, I mean I think You've been in well over
two hundred episodes of television and movies on top of it,
So yes, I would say absolutely, the resume is stacked.
One thing that we need to add to your resume, though,
is that Marvel Studios needs to call you and then
put you in MCU because you know, we've got this
Avengers Doomsday coming up, with all these characters coming back

(11:07):
and feel like we with multiverse things happening, we need
the live action Maggie Blue Kitty Pride Marvel picture version.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
That would be amazing. You know, I look really good
in a catsuit, So.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Let's me make it that because you know Marvel of
course listens right.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Them, we'll be like, heads up, we're talking top secret
stuff about you. Yeah, that would be really cool. And
you know, especially like the episode that we're going to
be reading today where she is coming back as a
slightly older self, that would be interesting for me to
portray coming back to somehow the world of Kitty Pride,

(11:49):
you know how, like you could even show like me
as the actress coming back and visiting the Kitty Pride
I did in animation, like in some sort of trippy way,
or I like that world anybody's gonna do that, but
I'm just going with it, Like that's cool.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Kitty Pride is a character is a little bit different
in evolution. You know, in the com book world, she
kind of evolved to be a leader of a pirate
ship in her imagination. What do you think, uh, Kitty
from X Men Evolution, what would she grow up to be?

Speaker 3 (12:27):
I love that. It's reminded me of like everywhere all
at once, that movie. Yeah, think of like this character
from the cartoon show having many different lives and then
like me being a part of it and me being
one of those avenues. It's truepy Dude, I think she

(12:50):
would be a CEO of with like a big high
rise business building where she's totally girl power. Let's just
go with that. She's like the CEO boss and like,
of course she loves men and women because you know,
she's got like a sexy husband, but she's like the

(13:10):
boss of like this amazing like girl women powered run business.
Maybe it's like cat print, leopard print sheetah, like kind
of like Adidas like street wear for sports, you know,
for like the superhero in you on the street. She's

(13:30):
got some sort of like Adidas Puma Yeah, it's called
like my Dance. I'm teaching a dance group for women
over forty and it's called Vancougar for like the older
women who are doing like sexy heel cabaret dance. It's
for women forty plus, So that kind of thing like
Van Cougar or like you know, Kitty Pounds or something

(13:53):
like that.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, I love that, you know, and Kitty definitely have
that dance background in the comic book, so right.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I love the active streetwear with like some sexy kittie
print going on.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
What's it been like hearing from fans, you know, like
conventions and stuff like, do you have any impactful fans
stories throughout the years?

Speaker 3 (14:16):
You know, it's been a bit sparse, to be honest,
Like because I took off from Vancouver when I in
two thousand and four, two thousand and five, I really
left the film industry and I moved to Asia and
I didn't do auditions anymore, and I pretty much just
took off. I still had an agent, but like I

(14:39):
wasn't doing work, so for ten years I just pursued
other things more like a theater world of performing arts.
I did have a YouTube channel that had a few
different things of me singing and talking and doing like
some voice exercises and stuff that if real diehard fans
tried to find, they would and they would do comments like,

(15:02):
oh my god, you're like amazing, and that was always
very fun. And then when I was in Hong Kong,
I got this invitation in twenty fourteen for the first
ever cosplay anime convention that I was ever invited to.
They found me through my email somehow and they're like,
we'll pay for everything, come and meet our London fans.

(15:23):
So it was in London in twenty fourteen, and there
was lots of fans. It was a big convention center
and lots of people. I talked on a panel, I
signed autographs at a marketplace area, went to a party
in the evening that they put on. People were very
friendly and a lot of them said that because I

(15:44):
did X Men, they're interested as well as the Madison
character as well as people in London really loved that
I did the Boma Voice because supposedly one of the
first Japanese anime shows that they had ever seen in
the ninety is, like like in London, England, they'd never
seen Japanese anime dubbed with English before it was Dragon

(16:06):
Ball Z, so they all of a sudden got splashed
out with like, wow, what is this cool Japanese anime
with an English dub and it was my voice. So
they were stoked to meet me because it was like
reminding them of their childhood that they first saw Japanese
anime and then I think it got them like on
a love of Japanese anime after that. So that was
exciting to meet them. And it's always nice to have

(16:27):
people like appreciate and even remember the lions that I
don't even remember that they're like, oh you said this.
You know.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
I'm sure the fans you know around the world that
are into X Men Evolution have a favorite team as
far as the romances go. You know, like in Twilight,
you're either Team Medword or team whatever his Jacob. Yeah,
all right, So in the world of X Men Evolution,
I kind of feel it was either Team Nightcrawler or

(16:58):
Team Lance Avalanche. So did you have a favorite personally?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I mean, I think night Crawler was friend zoned right
away and Avalanche was the hot one.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Okay, so we know we know who you're rooting for.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
We want both right, we want an avalanche on the
outside and a night crawler on the inside.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Of all the episodes that were out there, you know,
what would be the one X Men Evolution episode that
you say, this is the one you should probably watch
it as my favorite?

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Well, I mean, I think there's a like a vanity
reason for my answer. Maybe I'm gonna say it's like
a little easter egg, you know, like you see little thing,
you know, I'm saying easter eggs and the different episodes
that you not everybody knows to watch out for. There's
one episode and I I should probably know which one

(18:01):
this is, because I can't even tell you which one
it is. But there's an episode out there where when
she's you're right, you're going through her neighborhood to get
to her house and it says Maggie Blue, Meggie Blue
drive on it. And I mean that's that's not even
anything to do with the episode or anything, but I
think that's cool. Yeah, right. And also I mean maybe

(18:28):
even just I think the one I know the most
and remember the most and I've seen the most is
like the first episode where she's introduced, where you're introduced
to her, where she's like freaking out about her powers
and then her parents find her, and this kind of feeling,
I mean that for me was maybe the most emotional,
even like even like, of course it was cool the

(18:49):
adventure she went on, but that first introduction where you're
like figuring out who she is and she's discovering it
and the parents are figuring it out, it's like kind
of emotional, and maybe it's always as an actor fun
to do the emotional staff.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Absolutely, yeah, awesome. Well, we are here to dive into
an X Men issue and we have chosen Astonishing X
Men number one. This is a awesome moment because Kitty
Pride returns to the X Mansion after being absent for
quite some time. But before we dive into the issue,

(19:23):
we have to set the era.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yes, this comic book was published May twenty six of
two thousand and four, and the top song of the
time was called burn by Usher? Never heard it? Do
you know burn by Usher? Have you ever heard this song?

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah? I can't think of how it goes.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Let's move on to the top movie of May twenty
six four was Shrek two, and this is where Shrek
and Fiona travel to a kingdom far far away we're
Fionda's parents are King and Queen to celebrate their marriage
and chaos ensues. It's with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and
Cameron Diaz.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Of course, yes, I've seen.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
This for sure. Shrek is great. I love him.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Yeah, I think they're coming out with the Shrek five
in December.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Of what kind of makes me laugh. It's like they
just gotta like they milk it, right.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Yeah, they're still going. They're still going.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Yeah, I mean while the franchise has made like one
point six billion dollars so far, so like, yeah, they're
they're gonna milk it as far as they can. Die
is going to be an it. She's gonna play the
Shrek's daughter, zan Daya.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
Oh my god. That's so.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
That.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
That's what that's what we're feeling back then when this
combook came out. So let's look at the cover.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
What do we have, Chandler, Well, we have a snake
tappening with Wolverine's uh claws popping out of his hand
and a gleam of light coming off the middle one.
Just iconic imagery. It just screams X men. You see that,
you know exactly what we're getting into.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
Yeah, And for me, this kind of just reads like
Marvel is trying to get everybody interested in the X
Men again, and let's give them what they want, Wolverine
because Wolverine's hell.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yes exactly. This was like a relaunch of the of
the series. Joss Whedon, you know, famous for creating Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, took over and he wrote this first
arc of story and John Cassidy drew it. Unfortunately, John
Cassidy passed away last year, so rest in peace, John,
We will miss you. But your art is beautiful and

(21:38):
it lives on in these comics. M hmm, all right,
let's get into this story. We open on quite a
horrific scene. We are in the dark and there is
a scared little girl and she is talking about how
her parents are screaming for their life and how their
screams are yummy.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
It's going I see demonic teeth and blood splatter, terrifying.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
We don't quite know what's going on, because all of
a sudden, a little girl wakes up as if it
was a nightmare, and she screams Vita, and we see
a doctor run in. This little girl, her name is Tildy,
and we see that this doctor has come to take
care of her, and when we pull back we see
that somebody's actually monitoring her sleep Yep. Yeah, we've got

(22:26):
some sinister plot underfoot that we will, I guess learn
later in the series.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
And then we get to our title page gift it.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Yes, And so right now in this scene, we've got
Kitty Pride returning to the mansion. She has been gone
for a while. She was on the Excalibur team, of course,
and Joss Whedon had said that Katy Pride was one
of his favorite characters, and so he was really pushed
to have her join this core team of mutants when

(22:57):
he relaunched this book, and he kind makes her the
central character. Her experience is, you know, the experience that
we get as the reader, and Maggie is gonna tell
us what's going on in Kitty's head.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Nothing has changed. The place was destroyed and now it
looks like nothing happened. No time has passed.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Kitty has arrived at the exterior of the mansion. She's
looking on on it of course, has been destroyed many
times as we know in comics, and as she enters,
she is kind of going backwards through time and seeing
memories of what's happened, Chris. I see there's a Professor Xavier.
He's got a line here.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
He says, we can send your furniture after you, or
home to Deerfield.

Speaker 4 (23:47):
No, keep it here. I intend to visit you every
chance I get.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Kitty continues into the mansion.

Speaker 4 (23:57):
Of course, the professor would have it be rebuilt this way,
give everyone a sense of stability, continuity. Nothing has changed,
even not even me, And.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
She phases through the wall.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Oh, Professor Xavier is a jerk.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yes, this iconic line that Kitty yells that we are
very familiar with. We've covered this issue. I believe it's
uncanny xpen one sixty nine. How I know that, I
don't know, but just I'm guessing it might be one sixty.
But it was this wonderful era, and Kitty was getting rebellious.
You know, she had been in the mansion for a
while and she did not like being told what to

(24:40):
do by the professor. Huh.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
I'm a kid again, out of my depth, completely overwhelmed
by everything here. And it isn't the sidery or sentinels
or the brood that surrounds me. It's the smaller pieces
shards of Me Marry Christmas, Sexy Kitty.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
We see another memory of Kitty Pride holding a missiletoe
above Colossus's head, giving him a smooch on the cheek. This,
of course, is from one of the other iconic issues
of Kitty. I believe this is the one where they
leave her and she has this alien creature chaser throughout
the mansion. So it's just fun to see all these

(25:30):
moments in pretty much the same art style too, which
is really cool to see.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
At which I don't hope I'm not late.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
Oh hi, it's possible that I'm late.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Quite so, And we see that Kitty has faced through
another wall, but this time the wall is into a
room that is full of students. This is a school
assembly with the top professors a Xavier school forgets at
youngsters on stage and Emma Frost is giving a speech
at the podium and she just kind of stumbles right

(26:06):
into it.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yes, I love Emma's lines here with Kitty. Let's hear
of Chris. If you want to be Emma.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
This children is Kitty Pride, who apparently fills the need
to make a grand entrance.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
I'm sorry, I was busy remembering to put on all
my clothes.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
So gushingly glad you can join us.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Yes, because she's making a little jab at Emma for
wearing just a bra top. Basically. Now, of course, Emma
and Kitty have a long, long history of hating each
other and fighting each other, and this is the moment
when Kitty gets to encounter her on the hero side.

(26:49):
So Emma has taken a turn. She was a super
villain for a long time and now she's on the team.
And I think Kitty's got to kind of warm up
to this idea, m hmm.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
And then she continues on with her speech. But something happens,
something very unexpected, something coming from the roof. It is
a crash and everything is coming down on all the students,
and sentinels are above them, and there's a whole there's
like three or four of them coming at them.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
We got cyclobs optic blasting. Beast is ready to tear
off his clothes. Kitty is phasing through her chair and
we learned that its just a simulation. This is just
a hologram. And Emma ends the simulation and she says,
so what have we learned, Chris? What does she say?

Speaker 2 (27:43):
We have learned? The first lesson. They will always hate us.
We will never live in a world of peace, which
is why control and nonviolence are essential. We must prove
ourselves a peaceful people. We must give the ordinary humans respect, compliance,

(28:03):
and understanding, and we must never mistake that for trust.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yes, we love Emma. She's so hard. Her and Cyclops
are arguing. He's saying, you should have told me you're
going to do that, like everybody freaked out, and I
love how she says, well, you should know that about
ten percent of them were ready to fight, and they
were excited about fighting. And he's like, really, which we
got to recruit the out of the tea. And it's

(28:31):
so funny how he's just like instantly.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Excited by that, and she's just like, I'm not, professor X,
come on, like, give me a break here. Let's figure
this out tomorrow. But in the meantime, let's have some
fun tonight.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Yes, we see them in the sheets.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Yeah, now, this is, of course, you know a moment
when Cyclops is now with Emma. His wife is now dead.
Gene Ray. She's always dead and back and live and
dead again, but this is currently She's been dead for
quite some time, so he has now moved on. He
has found new relationship with Emma, but Wolverine, who appears

(29:11):
in his bedroom, is not happy with it because they
have a long history, of course, of both loving the
same woman who has now passed away, and he does
not like to see that Cyclops has moved on.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Which stage is grieving? Is this?

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Yes? Cyclopes blasts wolverye. He's like, get out of my bedroom.
He shoots them through the window and they go out
on the lawn and they start to fight in front
of all the students, in front of all the faculty.
And what's crazy is that we get to the end
of that scene and Emma's line is the best. He says,

(29:53):
what's this all about?

Speaker 2 (29:55):
What do you think? Superpower is a scintillating wit and
the best body money can buy? And I still rape
a little corpse?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yes, because they're fighting over a woman that is no
longer alive? Right?

Speaker 2 (30:13):
What was in the bedroom though, like at the end
of the bed in the morning, creep like it was
so weird.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
I know.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
We cut to them in a simulation where they are
sitting on the islands of Hawaii and calming down because
they are having a family meeting.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yes, and when I sit when he says, sitting on
the islands of Hawaii, literally sitting on the islands, they
are huge and the islands are teenage.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Yeah. I was looking at that too, and I'm like,
these guys look like demigods, Like they're huge, they're giants.
The way that it's drawn.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
Mm hmmm, yes, this is this is uh you know,
of course, uh a mistake that Beast made. You know,
he was programming the simulation so that they would be
on the beach in Hawaii, not on Hawaii themselves. So
I better, I better fix that. But we are trying to,

(31:10):
you know, calm the team down. We're getting Cyclops and
Wolverine on the same page. Cyclops is like, we got
to be a team. We are here for all of
our you know, unique gifts and our special abilities and uh,
you know, they got to get out there and start
saving people. Changing the opinion about mutants so that people
don't fear them, but that they are excited about them,

(31:30):
like how they are about the Avengers are fantastic four.
They're like, we gotta we gotta be them.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
And we got to wear costumes, you guys, Yes, because
quite frankly, all the black leather is making people nervous.
Cyclops had said, so, yeah, if they have the colorful,
fun costumes, are going to be more appealing to the
mass audiences and likable.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yes, yes, he says, sorry logan superheroes wear costumes, and
quite frankly, all the black leather is made people nervous
because this is the era like when the movies were
coming out, all the heroes were wearing black leather, and
then it started reflecting in the comics. And now he's like,
we're going back to the colorful suits. We're going to
go back to being those iconic heroes. And I like

(32:16):
how Kitty raises her hand here, Meggie, I don't know
if you can find that.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
I'm not a fighter, not like you guys.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Wolverine, he jumps in. He says, you've been in at
plenty kid, I'd take you at my back any day.
They have a long history, of course, of being in
all sorts of battles. And I love how Wolverine and
Kitty have a relationship.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah, And Psychclops explains that Kitty isn't a fighter, but
and her power isn't aggressive, but it's more protective, and
that it's good to show that people that are like Kitty,
you know, to the public.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
Yeah, of course, because it's a PR move, you know.
He says, Hank's a articulate as anything, but what people
most see as well a beast. Emma's a former villain,
Logan's a thug, and he.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Says born and bread, born and bred.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
He says, I can lead the team, but I haven't
looked anybody in the eye since I was fifteen.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
So I'm what a PR stud.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Yes, our own poster child, isn't it sweet? The non
threatening shadow Cat or Sprite or Aeriel or whatever incredibly
unimpressive name you're using nowadays.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Emma, shut up. You all may have perfectly good reasons
for not wanting to do this, but you're the team
I chose, so think about it.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
And then the piece is all like, am I the
only one who's dying to see these outfits?

Speaker 1 (33:49):
And then we cut to a press conference. The doctor
that we saw at the opening pages with the young
girl Tildy is getting ready. There's a makeup artist, there's
hundreds of reporters out there to hear her, and she
is getting ready to go on stage, and we're kind
of cutting intercutting between a bunch of scenes right now.
We've got this scene, We've got the X Men at
the mansion, and then we've got a hostage situation happening

(34:12):
at a party outside of all of this, So there's
three things happening all at once.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Doctor Kavita Rao gets introduced on stage. We are back
with Wolverine and Kitty outside of the X Mansion, and
Wolverine says, you see something good.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
Lockeed wanted to fly on his own. I funny beat.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Me here the dragon will show. I did.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
Big entrance.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Sorry about that. Wasn't planning it. I just sometimes I
go off more since I know superheroes, Summers has got
to be nuts.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
So back in this party, this shrinky party where everybody's
dressed up to the nines. Uh, Doctor raw is making
her speech and she says what is a mutant? But
that is completely cut short by a terrorist. He is
all in black leather, which is very highly you know, scary,
with his gun.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
He says.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Everybody on the ground. So yeah, these villains are not
playing around. They are going to probably rob and kill
everybody here. It has turned into a hostage situation in
the Chapman building, the FBI they cornered off the four
blocks radius of the whole place.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Yeah, Cyclops is listening in on this police report, so
to speak, and he's like, Okay, you know, now or never,
they've got a situation. They've got to show up. And
then concurrently at the press conference, we have our doctor
talking about all the different terms that mutants are considered,

(35:46):
you know, angels and devils, heroes and villains and all
the above, and she is here to tell everybody what
mutants truly are. We cut back to our main villain
of the issue. We have this green faced villain with
a red hood and a metal thing over his nose.

(36:06):
I can't remember this guy's name, but I know he's
from this place called break World. Hmmm, he's got sinister
lines here. He says, no doubt you're wondering what it is.
We want your money, your daughters, your flesh peeled and roasted.
Maybe we're fanatics, or maybe we're just bored.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yeah, that kind of feels like weed and very you know,
vague and flippant. Now we cut back to doctor Raw
when she says, mutants are people no better or worse
by nature than anybody else. Just people, people with a disease.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Uh oh. We see the team getting ready in the
locker room, Kitty and Emma getting dressed, Beast getting his glasses.
We got our snaked moment, mm hmm, and we see
the X Men make their grand double page splash entrance.
We'll Green says time to make nice with the public

(37:02):
a summers.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
And Scott says, we have to do more than that logan.
We have to astonish them.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
And we see the grand double page spread of the
team walking out to get on their black bird. Look
at their strut.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
You can hear the music majestic. What do you think
of their new costumes, Maggie, They're hot?

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Look at them.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
I want that's me in the back, in the back,
got her ponytail in.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
I love the blue and the gold. You know that's
my name. You know, my name originally is Blueberry Sunshine,
and so I've always really connected to the blue, the
dark blue and the gold.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
I love it. I love that.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, they say, look at them, all their juicy muscles.
They're bibes.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Yes. Oh, they take off their jet. We see the
hostile situation is happening, and we end on the last panel,
which is the doctor and she said earlier humans are
nothing but a disease, and they say, and we have

(38:15):
found a cure, and then it cuts to black.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
What are they going to do? Found a cure to
get rid of the mutant?

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Yeah, to get rid of the mutant gene, you know,
the the thing that makes you have superpowers.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Wow, I could go deep with that, but I won't.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
It's a storyline that they fight a lot in this
in these cartoons. Is this idea of given the opportunity,
would you choose to have your mutant gene you know,
changed or removed or whatever fixed so to speak? Or
are you happy with the way you were born the
way you are?

Speaker 3 (38:59):
You know, recently, I just heard this video and maybe
you've heard about it before, but like supposedly humans have
junk DNA, you know about that, Like we've.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Heard I heard something about that DNA.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
So actually, like humans are supposedly only actually just surviving
at ten percent of our potential, and that junk DNA,
if it was turned on and activated again, we would
be superhuge. We would be superheroes. And that's why I
think subconsciously we feel so enamored with all of the

(39:33):
Marvel comics and Superman and just DC and everybody because
we're like, I feel like I remember having those powers,
like when I could jump or fly or face through
walls or like see the future. Like I feel like,
you know, we do have psychic powers if you tap
into it more. Nobody teaches them to us, but if
you're interested, you can find a teacher and read some

(39:54):
books about it. So I find I find that very interesting.
I'm I'm really interested about it. The like esoteric aspect
of it.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
All absolutely Yeah, me too.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah, well, you know, and especially when you think of
like super strong bodybuilders, you know, they're tapping also into
the expandability of our bodies. How like, with enough, with
enough training, discipline understanding, you can be quite strong. And
you know, like and it's interesting and that the body
just grows to the size of the of of what

(40:28):
it needs to accomplish all that strength. It's fascinating to
think about, how you know, the potential is there.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
That's why we feel so connected to the superheroes. We're like,
I want to be one, I am one. I can
be one.

Speaker 1 (40:41):
Yes, thank you so much for joining us on the
podcast telling us all about your history. Is could he
pride living this story with us? This was a lot
of fun to have you on.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
It was really a lot of fun. And you guys
are good actors too.

Speaker 1 (40:57):
Oh my god, thank you totally. Thanks Flip. And now
it's time for the Uncanny News News News News, Wow, Chandler.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
We have been on fire with events and activities, and
we have so many new announcements to make too about
the Uncanny Experience and just life in general. Let's start
off with the live stuff real quick, because I feel
like we need to make note and tell everybody like
the cool awesome things we get through an experience. Yes,

(41:34):
the Who Pride Parade West Hollywood Parade just happened, and
I was so happy to team up with Kevin Winston
from Digital La and Prison Comics to do a contingent
of X Men cous players and pop culture cause players.
We had a celebrity convertible and the cast of X
Men ninety seven joined us. We had JP Carliac who

(41:55):
plays More, Holly Chow who voices Jubilee, and also Martha Marian,
the voice of Emma Frost, all in our convertible. And
on top of that, we had special guests Alpha Takahashi
and Elijah Mountjoy who plays Silock and Winter Soldier in
the hit video game Marvel Rivals. They joined us in

(42:17):
the Pride Parade and they cosplayed you guys, yeah, cosplayed.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
Oh it was so cool.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
We were on TV like we were chanting, mutant and proud.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
You know, it was so much fun.

Speaker 2 (42:32):
So thank you everybody who came out to you know,
watch and cheer us on, And to everybody in our
contingent that participated, as well as you know, Kevin and
Ted uh from Digital A in prison like you guys
rock that.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
Shout out to Nick Dumont who ran out and took
a photo with Avery the Polaris.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
Oh my god, that's right Nick Dumont, who played Polaris
and the Gift. It saw one of our cosplayers your
cause play dad on Instagram if we want to check
him out. Dressed as Polaris. Nick jumped out onto the
parade route. They had a big embrace. That was such
a special moment.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
It was it was well. While that was happening, I
was in Des Moines, Iowa for Des Moines Con. It
was a wonderful weekend meeting all sorts of people interested
in the Uncanny experience. As we had our Uncanny pop
up booth. I got to moderate a panel with a
voice actor of Nightcrawler from X Men Evolution, Brad Swale,
and it was a exciting a weekend full of fandom

(43:32):
and fun. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
We also had a very successful event with Leonora Zand
the voice of Rogue from X Men ninety seven and
X Men the animated series. She came out the memoir
book and I helped set up an event for her
at the Barnes and Noble at the Grove, which is
this really shrinky location in Los Angeles, Like it's probably

(43:55):
like one of the best, most renowned Barnes and Nobles.
But anyway, the place full, you know, Marvel actors came
to support and it was so awesome to see the
fans come out in cosplay and they we got to
hear stories from her life, you know. She she read
passages from the book and it's really fascinating. So if

(44:16):
you're listening to this and you want to read about
the actress who played Rogue, go read this memoir. It's
called The noor Zander Rogue's Tale. It's available now on Amazon.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
You can pick it up. It's a page turner.

Speaker 2 (44:29):
I swear I loved it very cool.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
Oh, I guess I met Hugh Jackman.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
What I know this, But I'm all like, wait a minute,
why did we lead with that?

Speaker 1 (44:41):
Yeah? Yeah, that was that was a big highlight. I
decided to fly to New York to see his Radio
City Music Hall show as well as his Minta Laine
Theater show, and it was awesome. And I waited by
the stage door and he came out and I got
a photo and he signed my Marvel Legend Wolverine Action
FA and it was a blast. So I just, you know,

(45:02):
for somebody that I've beenmired literally for like twenty five years,
you know, it's it's it's nice to kind of interact
with them, even though it's brief. You know, it's not
like we had to sit down conversation, but it's still
It was really cool to see him in both capacities
of the greatest show man, you know, doing his big
musical show and then the intimate theater show where I
think we're like fifth row, you know, like watching him

(45:24):
do this play. So it was it was really cool.
You know, I love you Jack No, no, just you hush.
Oh yeah, yeah, it was really cool. Dude, how much
were you geeking out? Come on, well it was it
was you know, it was awesome. I I was geeking out.
I was It's amazing to have somebody so that you

(45:45):
look up to and obviously that's such an icon, you know,
Wolverine and our X Men films, and just see him
up so close all the time, and like multiple times,
like seeing him twice, you know, day after day, and
getting to see him interact with people, and like, for instance,
the the theater, he just rolled up on his bike.
Oh wow, he just pulled up to the theater on

(46:06):
a bike. There were some people waiting for him, some
kind of old ladies, and he just was like, you know,
saying hi to them and you know, taking a few
photos you know that they asked for, and walked right
into the theater as if it was nothing. And so
he's just a he seems like a really swell guy.
And the show, of course at Radio City was was
bombastic and fun. Unlessa Ethridge was a special guest, so

(46:26):
it's fun to see her perform. You know, it was cool.
I'm so glad.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
I went, Oh my gosh, and you got that little autograph.

Speaker 1 (46:33):
Yes, yeah, it's so good.
