Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too
much because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy
for today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect
yesterday's portion of heavenly manna the word of God to
keep us through today's challenges. On this program, we are
going to change all of that. Let's experience God's words
(00:22):
today and receive the power we need to live healthy,
vibrant lives. Welcome to your Daily Portion with your host
author speaker Elle David Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, Good morning, Good morning. It is Sabbath, August nine,
twenty twenty five. Hello, my name is El David Harris.
I am your host, and this is your Daily Portion
where we give you God's word every single day and
today is no exception. We are continuing in our lesson
study series through the Book of Exodus. This is lesson
(00:54):
number seven of thirteen, and our caption for today is
the Bread and Water of Life, The Bread and Water
of Life. Before we get into that, I'd like to
just say welcome to you and ask you to go
over to your Daily Portion dot com. Please join our
online community. Please please let us know where you are
(01:16):
in the world at your Daily Portion dot com this
is one of the ways that we continue to build
faith and fellowship. Let's go ahead and pray and get underway. Father,
we thank you for this Sabbath morning and the opportunity
for us to worship together, to consider your word together,
to be transformed by you together. Please please help us
(01:41):
to walk into the promised Land together. In Jesus name,
I pray, Amen and Amen again. The Bread and Water
of life. I remember when Jesus said in John chapter
seven that the manna that came from heaven, that bread
(02:03):
that came to the people in the wilderness, that bread,
the people did eat, and then eventually they all died.
They ate the bread, but eventually they all perished. But
Jesus Christ himself the bread of life, that that manna
from heaven actually prefigured. When we eat of Christ, and
(02:26):
we drink of Christ, then we will either never we
will never hunger, and we will never thirst again. And
I'm grateful. I'm grateful. So we go back into the
Bible for the story, the story from Exodus chapter sixteen,
beginning at verse twenty eight, and the Bible reads, and
the Lord said to Moses, how long do you refuse
(02:49):
to keep my commandments? And my laws. So God is
sending a message to his people through Moses. See, for
the Lord has given you the Sabbath. You see, God
has given us a way to reconnect with Him. In fact,
in fact, if we had kept the Sabbath from the
time that God showed us the Sabbath, nobody would ever
(03:12):
have have worshiped false gods. Nobody would have ever worshiped
false gods if we had actually kept the Sabbath from
the time that He revealed the Sabbath to us. But
let me continue. Therefore, He gives you on the sixth
day bread for two days. Let every person, every man
(03:33):
remain in his place, Let no man go out of
his place on the seventh day. So the people rested
on the seventh day. You see, even though we have
to eat, the Bible teaches us that our food is necessary.
We think about Job what he talked about in Uh.
(03:55):
I think it's Job chapter chapter twelve or something like that.
But in any case, he even God showed us that
food is one hundred percent necessary. We can't go but
so long in fasting true fasting. I'm not talking about
that kind of fasting people've made up today. I'm fasting
from television. I'm fasting from sweets. I'm talking about real fasting,
(04:18):
no food and in some cases no water. And still
God said, okay, just so you know, I'm the one
that is taking care of you. I'm the one who
is your provider. I'm giving you a cycle one, two, three, four, five, six,
and I want you to gather your food that I
(04:41):
give you miraculously from heaven six days. But there's another day, God, Yes,
but on that day there will be none for the
millions of you who are so journeying toward the Promised Land.
There will be no food. Well why not, God, Because
on the seventh day is the day that I have
(05:01):
manifest to you, so that you will know that I'm
the Lord which doth sanctify you. I'm the one who
provides for you. I'm the one that makes you holy.
I'm gonna give you enough on Friday, the day of preparation,
to carry you through the Sabbath, so you can focus
only on Me on the Sabbath. So on Monday, there
(05:24):
will not be two servings for your family. Tuesday, no
two servings on two on Tuesday. On Sunday there will
be only one serving. On Friday, there will be two servings. Why,
so you can rest and connect with me. Do you
see what's going on here? And so God is showing
(05:46):
himself as the ultimate provider. Now, now let's go a
little bit more slowly. Let's go slowly, Go slowly. And
so the passage shows that the Sabbath was understood and
expected before Sinai, you know, when God gave the Ten
Commandments on Mount Sinai, proving its place in God's eternal
(06:11):
moral law as a principle, not merely a ceremonial observance.
And so from the book Testimonies for the Church, Volume six,
page three hundred and forty nine, it reads, had the
people of God kept the Sabbath as God commanded, there
would have been no idolatry. Am I idolizing my paycheck?
(06:39):
I have to ask me right in front of you.
Am I idolizing where I live? Am I idolizing relationships?
Am I idolizing something that's unholy? Altogether? I'm really just
saying that out loud so you can ask yourself that
same question. Is there some reason why people are idolizing
things of it than God idolizing other humans? Other than
(07:03):
God idolizing false gods that actually don't even exist, statues
and relics instead of worshiping God well, because God has
given us the Sabbath as a reconnection. On Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
(07:24):
we have the privilege of worshiping God. We have the
privilege of connecting with God. But we also have the
privilege of working. We also have the privilege of working
through certain difficulties that are secular in nature. We have
the opportunity to choose whether we're going to be distracted
or not because so much is going on in the
(07:45):
world vying for our attention. But on Sabbath, somebody type
in the Chat on Sabbath, see on Sabbath. We have
the privilege of worshiping God. But it is the only
day that is holy, the only day that is set
aside for a holy use. It's the only day that
God has sanctified. The Bible says he blessed it, on it,
(08:08):
he rested, and then he sanctified it. That is, set
it aside for a holy youth. So that means on
that divine appointment, that time that cannot be replaced by
some other time. We can't just pick a time out
of the sky and say, well, because we worship God
every day, then you know Tuesday is good too. No,
(08:29):
it's not holy. Tuesday's not holy. Thursday's not holy, Sunday
is not holy. No matter what your grandparents told you.
The Bible says that the only day that God created
as holy was the seventh Day, which we now call
in English in our day Saturday. Okay. And so the
(08:50):
Sabbath from Patriarchs and Prophets page two hundred and ninety
six was not for Israel only, but for the world.
It had been made known to humanity in Eden. It
was to be a sign of their loyalty, to separate them,
separate them from the surrounding nations. And so let me
(09:14):
just apply it very quickly for you. The Sabbath is
a gift and not a burden. It reminds us of
God's provision. I said that earlier his lordship and our
dependence upon him. God often trains us in discipline, community,
and obedience before giving us greater revelation. Jesus, he is
(09:37):
the bread of life. He is our provider, and he's
also the one who gave us the Sabbath, so we
can connect to him in a unique way on his
storty day.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
P friends, always remember we cannot live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
This has been your daily portion with El David Harris.
Make it a great day, yeah,
