Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too
much because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy
for today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect
yesterday's portion of heavenly manna the word of God to
keep us through today's challenges. On this program, we are
going to change all of that. Let's experience God's words

(00:22):
today and receive the power we need to live healthy,
vibrant lives. Welcome to Your Daily Portion with your host,
author speaker, Elle David Harris.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, Good morning, Good morning. It is Wednesday. It's
August thirteen, twenty twenty five. Hello, my name is Elle
David Harris. I am your host, and this is your
Daily Portion where we give you God's Word every single day,
and today is no exception. We are continuing in our
Lesson study series through the Book of Exodus, and our
caption for today is Jethrow. Yeah, that is a whole

(00:56):
principle right there, Jeathrow. Before we get into that, I'd
like to just say welcome to everyone joining us, especially
those joining us for the very first time. I need
you to go over to your Daily Portion dot com,
join our online community, pick up the Your Daily Portion
Life application, guide and let us know where you are
in the world at your Daily Portion dot com. This

(01:19):
is one of the ways that we continue to build
faith and fellowship. Let's go ahead and pray, and then
we will get under way. Father, We thank you for
the principles of balance that you have shown us, the
principles of leadership and management that you have shown us
in the scriptures. And I'm asking you to please please

(01:41):
give us understanding and then let us apply what we
see in the truth there in the scriptures. In Jesus name,
I pray, Amen and Amen again. Jethrow, Jethro, Jethrow. So
the Bible teaches us as according to the Lesson writer,
Moses was visited by Jethro, his father in law, who

(02:02):
was also called Ruell. Jethrow brought with him Moses's wife, Zapora,
and two sons, Gersham and Eliezer. When Moses heard that
they were coming, he went out to welcome them. And
let me just say that Moses got a lot more

(02:22):
than he bargained for from Jethrow, his father in law. Okay,
so what seems to be just a common thing, like
for those of us who are married and we have
in laws, it seems like just a normal everyday experience,
like we gel together, we learn to eat and drink together, right,
we break bread, we live and grow together when we're healthy.

(02:44):
But there was something even better. Jethrow taught Moses the
model of either shared if you want to say it
this way, or distributed leadership. Shared or distributed leadership. That
came from Jethro. I don't know where you think it
came from, but that's where it came from. And so

(03:06):
the Bible reads in Exodus, chapter eighteen and verse twenty four,
and Moses harkened done to the voice. That means he
listened to the voice of his father in law and
did all that he had said, because Jethro was like, listen, brother,
you're gonna loop. You're gonna get sick, like you're gonna
be overwhelmed. There are way too many people that you
are shepherding. Listen to me, people who are leaders. If

(03:27):
you are shepherding a flock of people where church is concerned,
if you are a leader in a corporate or organizational
setting outside of the worship center, etc. It is still
the reality that if everything comes to you, if all
of the troubles, all of the decisions literally come to

(03:48):
you as they are in their rast form, without somebody
else vetting or doing some of their part before it
gets to your level. You are going to burn out.
You're gonna burn You're not going to be as successful
as you possibly could be. I don't care if you're
a billionaire with a bee right now. I'm not a billionaire,
but I can tell you that based on what the

(04:09):
Bible says that you will be. You are an out
if you try to handle everything yourself. And so the
man Jethrow ye throw ye trow. That's how you actually
pronounce it means excellence, his excellence or abundance, ye trow

(04:29):
or Jethrow as we say it means his excellence or abundance.
Do you believe that Jethrow actually was abundant? Do you
believe that he was excellent when you look at what
he taught? Or ruel? Ruel means friend of God? Say man,
so his excellence or abundance? Who also is the friend

(04:50):
of God? No matter where you say his upbringing was,
he learned to be a friend of God. And then
of course, uh, well I won't go into this other thing,
right So Jethro's advice was seen as divinely timed because
Moses needed this right here. His model represents the principle

(05:13):
of distributed leadership. Israel needed structure before receiving the Law
of God at Mount Sinai. And this is the advice
that came from a Midianite priest. I mean, listen, listen.
I know sometimes we say consider the source and to
be careful of this and careful of that. But in
this case, God chose to use a Midianite priest a

(05:35):
reminder that truth can be recognized outside of what you believe.
Is the people of God that could write you an
entire story about how people who come from different faith fellowships,
who are listening to the voice of God don't be
confused by what I'm saying here, have given great counsel

(05:57):
and advice to the so called people of God. I
wish I had the time, but the Bible says it.
It's very clear. So God used this moment to show
that faithfulness is more important than bloodline. Jethro Yetro did
not come from the same bloodline as the quote people

(06:17):
of God. And so from the book Patriarchs and Prophets,
page three hundred and one, the Lord had greatly honored Moses,
and he would not permit even the monarch of Egypt
to trifle with him with impunity. But the fact that
he had been specifically chosen to do a great work
did not lead him to neglect the smaller duties. Jethro

(06:39):
saw the heavy burdens that rested upon Moses. Do you
have a Jethro in your life? A Yetro? Do you
have a Yethro in your life? Somebody who sees that
you are doing too much heavy lifting, who needs to
undergoirge you with the kind of structure, the kind of
guidance you need in order not to burn out and
destroy even the legac see that you are currently building

(07:02):
building with one hand, tearing down with the other. Who
is your ye Throw? Who is your Jethrow? You may
want to type it in the chat? Are you a
jet throw? Are you a jeth throw? Or do you
have somebody who is and you want to just give
honor to God for them putting their name in the chat.
I'm born to be a jet throw, I promise you
that's my birth purpose, just like Joseph. Joseph was the

(07:24):
same way, and so he saw those burdens, and then
he wisely suggested a plan or recommended a plan by
which they might be shared by others. What the responsibilities
the heavy burdens. This council was accepted by Moses, and
the plan was followed. Let me just say here, don't

(07:47):
throw away your jeth rows. When people come who are analytical,
people come who are structural, people who have frameworks, who
are willing to help you set these things up and
for your teams to be able to follow these plans,
do not throw them away. If you're ultra decisive or
your ultra creative. I'm teaching here, y'all just don't know it.

(08:08):
I'm saying, don't tell the death rolls to go away.
Follow what the death rolls will teach you. It will
lengthen your days in anything you're doing so much more
to say, so little time and so. In the context,
Moses had reached leadership fatigue, type of one in the chat.

(08:28):
If you're a leader and you're fatigued. The people were
facing daily disputes that could distract from God's larger mission.
This helped prepare for the spiritual infrastructure for the giving
of the law in Exodus chapter twenty and so, God
used a non Israelite priest to provide key wisdom. This

(08:51):
reveals that God's wisdom is not limited to one's ethnicity
or background, and that humility is essential for leadership. Finally,
let's apply it now. Delegation is not weakness. Distributed leadership
model is not weakness, its obedience. Leaders burn out when

(09:11):
they carry everything ourselves, when we carry everything ourselves, and
so witness attracts truth seekers. Jethro was drawn to God
by what he heard and saw through Moses's faithfulness, and
then based on that Moses is already faithful. Now God

(09:33):
sends somebody with the blueprint for continuing that legacy of
faith without having to burn out as a result. Boy,
the people of God can really learn from this today.
Thank it a great day, Peace, Thanks.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
For joining us listening. Friends. Always remember we cannot live
by bread alone, but by every word that comes from
the mouth of God. This has been your daily portion
with El David Harris. Make it a great day. Yeah,
