Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too
much because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy
for today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect
yesterday's portion of heavenly manna, the word of God to
keep us through today's challenges. On this program, we are
going to change all of that. Let's experience God's words
(00:22):
today and receive the power we need to live healthy,
vibrant lives. Welcome to Your Daily Portion with your host,
author speaker, Elle David Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, Good morning, Good morning. It is Sunday at

in our Lesson study series, the new one our Lesson
Study series considering Joshua lessons of Faith from Joshua, and
(00:59):
our caption for today is a New Moses, a New Moses.
Before we get into that, I'd like to just say
welcome to everyone joining us, especially those joining us for
the very first time. I'm asking you to please go
over to your Daily Portion dot com. Please join our
online community and pick up the Your Daily Portion life
(01:22):
application guide. Please let us know where you are in
the world at your Daily Portion dot com. This is
one of the ways that we continue to build faith
and fellowship. Let's go ahead and pray. Father, We thank
you for the opportunity this new week, Lord to come
into your presence. Please teach us how to live godly
(01:44):
no matter what, help us to follow you with all
that we have and all that we are. In Jesus' name,
I pray, Amen and Amen again a new Moses. Okay,
so there's so much I want to say, but there's
not enough time. So let me just say this. Joshua
was the perfect example. If you want to use the
(02:07):
word perfect, I don't have a problem using it. The
perfect example of a human being following and supporting God
through the ministry of another human being. Let me just
say it this way. When Moses was the leader that
God had chosen for the people of God for a
(02:27):
period of time during and after the Exodus, Joshua was
right there. He was a man of faith. He wasn't
the only one, but he was a man of faith
and God, knowing what he would do many many years later,
made sure that Joshua was in Moses's presence at the
times that were most critical for the mission that God
(02:52):
would give to Joshua. And so we begin now in
the story beginning in the Book of Deuteronomy Deuteronomy chapter
Let's go with Deuteronomy chapter eighteen, and I will read
verse fifteen. The Lord, thy God will raise up unto
thee a prophet from the midst of thee of thy brethren,
(03:14):
like unto me, unto him, ye shall hearken. Let's go
to Joshua chapter one, verses one and two, and the
Bible reads, now after the death of Moses. See Moses
is now dead. He had done a wonderful job, an
exceptional job in leading God's people, but he made a
(03:34):
critical error when he struck the rock in anger. On
that second occasion, God told him strike the rock the
first time. This was a symbol of Jesus having to
be smitten, having to be bruised for our iniquities. The
chastisement of our peace was upon him by his stripes.
(03:55):
We are healed. This was the symbol as God gave
water from the rock. But thecond time symbolize God saying listen,
I'm gonna make provision for you. I'm going to give
you the life that is in water, but you don't
have to strike Jesus again. He died once for all,
and in anger, Moses decided to be demonstrative and say,
(04:20):
how long do we have to put up with you?
In all of the wickedness that the people of God
were involved in. They're murmuring, they're complaining all of their repining,
And in that moment, he made it seem that he
was the one that was delivering God's people number one
problem and number two, he made it seem as if
Jesus and I know, I know you're going to have
(04:42):
to study this out, and you should, but as if
Jesus needed to be smitten again. And both of those
put Moses in a position that God had to move
him out of the way so God could show the
people that the real leader is God himself, but he
was using Moses. He moves him out of the way,
and then of course he now installs Joshua. Now, after
(05:07):
the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it
came to pass that the Lord spake unto Joshua saying, Moses,
my servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan.
So this transition from Moses to Joshua was explicitly tied
(05:29):
to the promise that God would not leave his people
leader less. I need somebody to get this right now.
There are some of you in churches around the world
that have all kinds of criticisms, and you feel discouraged
based on your view of how leadership should be versus
how you see that it is in your church community
(05:52):
or even on a global scale. You have a view.
You have decided that leadership looks a certain way, and
you have taken it up, taking it upon yourselves. God
forbid to strike the rock because you're frustrated. You have
stricken the rock the second time. Because you're frustrated. You
think that God is sleeping. But I assure you the
(06:14):
Bible says God does not slumber, He does not sleep,
He will not leave his people leader less. And so
it is not incumbent upon you to take the reins
into your own hands and go on the internet and
on media and criticize and find that fault that you
feel justified in finding in order to esteem yourselves as leaders.
(06:41):
Let me just say that one more time, very simply
God is still in control. Whatever we have to deal
with in terms of leadership, we need to deal with
it internally. It is not an open battle for all
of the world to see, because that does not glorify God.
God wants us to come into his presence and say, God,
now what do you want us to do? And he
(07:02):
will raise up a leaders among his people until Jesus comes.
Do not misinterpret or read into what I'm saying. Just
listen to it for what I said. And so uh,
there are so many, so many words that we need
to use here, Like now the prophet that is the
term prophet in Hebrews speak spoken of in the text,
(07:23):
that is the spokesman for God. So Joshua in this
moment of ministry becomes the spokes men for God. And
then kan kame o me okay I mispronounced it, but
it doesn't matter like unto me that word ka mo
me I got it right this time means like unto me,
(07:46):
we're stressing the continuity. So God is saying, there was
a mantle. I placed it upon Moses and of course
Aaron by extension. But now they are moved out of
the way, and that is the continuity. I'm instilling by
putting you, the spokesperson, the prophet from among the people
(08:08):
of God into place. Are you now a part of
God's continuity plan where maybe some people have gone off
the scene because they are elders and they have passed away,
or they are out of energy, or if God forbid,
somebody has passed away, or if double God forbid, somebody
has lost faith, and you are there to take up
the mantle. Because God is keeping his plan continuous, his
(08:33):
will will be done. Ask him, ask him, and then
of course he wants all of us to shah mah,
shama here, shamah here, and obey here, and obey not
just here. This is what Joshua was to do. And
of course he was the servant, the servant of God.
(08:53):
He was to be courageous. And so Joshua's opening frames
him as a divinely appointed leader, continuing God's presence among
his people. Now the continuity is in leadership. God's people
were not abandoned. By echoing Deuteronomy, the text reassures the
(09:18):
people that God's covenant guidance did not die with Moses,
that Golden Calf incident was a real thing. God did
not need Moses to be the leader. Joshua was not
another man's idea, but God's chosen servant. There is so
much more that we can say, but let me just
(09:39):
say this. God is always in control. He will not
leave his people leaderless. Peace.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Thanks for joining us listening. Friends. Always remember we cannot
live by bread alone, but by every word that comes
from the mouth of God. This has been your daily
portion with El David Harris. Make it a great day. Yeah.
