Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too
much because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy
for today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect
yesterday's portion of heavenly manna the word of God to
keep us through today's challenges. On this program, we are
going to change all of that. Let's experience God's words
(00:22):
today and receive the power we need to live healthy.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Vibrant lives.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Welcome to your Daily Portion with your host, author speaker
Elle David Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, Good morning, Good morning. It is Tuesday, October fourteenth,
twenty twenty five. Hello, my name is El David Harris.
I am your host, and this is your Daily Portion
where we give you God's Word every single day and
today is no exception. We are continuing in our lesson
study series Lessons of Faith from Joshua, and our caption
(00:55):
for today is remember Remember. Remember. Before we get into that,
I'd like to just say welcome to you and ask
you to go over to your Daily Portion dot com.
Please join our online community, let us know where you
are in the world, and pick up your Daily Portion
Life Application Guide. And this is one of the ways
(01:16):
that we continue to build faith and fellowship. Now I
talk to you about this a little bit. Yesterday I
said that I am thinking about going through the lesson
musically musically this coming Friday night at seven pm Jamaica time,
seven pm Jamaica time. But I need to see, like,
(01:37):
would you be here worshiping with us if I did that?
So just please please please go ahead and say yes
to music in the chat or in the comments section
after the fact, and let me know if you would
be here Friday evening at seven pm Jamaica time, and
then if so, we will be here with you. Okay,
(02:00):
So let's see, let's see, let's see. Let's go ahead
and pray, and then we will get underway. Father, we
thank you, We thank you for the privilege of prayer.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to remember how
good you have been to your people in the past
and even to us as individuals. Please help us to
live according to that divine remembrance. In Jesus' name, I
(02:23):
pray a man and a man again. I remember one
of my favorite quotes. Really, it's a great reminder where
Auntie Ellen said that we have no reason to fear
for the future except we forget where God has led
us in the past. We have no fear for the
(02:46):
future except we forget where God has led us in
the past. And so I'm going to give just a
few lessons, just a few lessons about remembering, beginning with
from the Bible Book of Joshua, chapter four, beginning at
verse six. Joshua, Chapter four, beginning at verse six, which
(03:11):
reads that this may be a sign among you. I
want you to give keen attention when God says that
we're supposed to remember something by sign, that this may
be a sign among you that when your children ask
their fathers in time to come saying what mean ye
(03:34):
by these stones, that ye shall answer them. That the
waters of Jordan were cut off before the arc of
the Covenant, So that means that God was before his people,
he was taking his people through to victory. He's with
his people today on this Tuesday morning. He is with
(03:54):
his people today guiding you through to victory. Well, it
says that the waters of the Jordan were cut off
before the presence of God or the ark of the
Covenant of the Lord. And so the fact is that
God establishes memorials to keep faith alive. Yeah, one politician
(04:15):
back in the eighties. I remember he used to say
keep hope alive, keep hope alive. In this case, we
want to keep faith alive because faith is the I've
heard all kinds of definitions of faith or or things
to describe faith, but simply besides what the scripture says
very clearly in Hebrews, the Book of Hebrews, chapter eleven,
(04:36):
faith is is that way that we connect to the
power of God. That's it. Faith is the way we
connect to the power of God. So if we have
no faith, we have no mechanism, no way to reach
across and grasp the power of God. But faith is
our ability to reach across and grasp the power of God. God. Okay,
(05:00):
and so the action step in this case is I
want you to I want you to identify a stone. See,
the people of God were to take up stones as
they were so journeying, and and then you heard what
God said to do with those stones. So what is
a stone? What is a moment of memory that you
will etch in your symbolic mindset so that you can
(05:21):
remember a moment when God showed up unmistakably. I want
you to do something, write it down and thank God
for him and all that he is doing daily. Whatever
it is, take it up. It's something. Oh God, you
(05:43):
were good to me on the road when there was
road rage around me and I started feeling it creep
up in me, but I was able to move without engaging.
Thank you for that moment. Okay, let me go on
to lesson number two before I go too far. Okay,
So we're going into Deuteronomy, chapter eight and verse two,
and the Bible reads and thou shalt remember all the
(06:06):
way which the Lord thy God had led thee these
forty years in the wilderness. Remember, remember how God has
led you all of these years in the wilderness. Now,
let me just give a little bit of context. These
are the children except for Joshua and Caleb. These are
all the children of the people who were delivered from
(06:30):
Egyptian captivity. Yeah, that's what we're talking about. We're talking
about every one of their parents and grandparents. They're dead,
every single one of them. I don't know if it's grandparents.
I just added that just in case. But the generation
before them, all of them, one hundred percent of them, Moses, Aaron,
and the rest of them except Joshua and Caleb dead
(06:52):
because of their unbelief. They didn't die because they had
heart attacks or whatever they died. They didn't die because
they got eaten by crocodiles. They died because of their unbelief.
And so he's telling this generation as they go through
their part of the journey, as they are crossing over
their Jordan river, Listen, I want you to remember what
(07:17):
I did for your forefathers, even though they were unfaithful.
Of course, this is a forecast because the people hadn't
all died yet, but you get the point. Now, by
the time they're crossing the Jordan, they are to remember
how God led them all of these years, and so
remembering leads to renewed obedience. Let me say that again.
(07:40):
Remembering leads to renewed obedience. The stones at Gilgal were
not meant to be silent. They spoke in air quotes
of God's faithfulness AH and called God's people to obedience.
Every act of remembrance strengthened their confidence in the Lord
who led them through impossible places. Forgetfulness leads to disobedience,
(08:08):
but remembrance revives faith. Thank God, Thank God, thank God.
So the action step is before making a major decision,
pause and recall how God has delivered you in the past.
Let that memory anchor your obedience for today, give you
the courage you need to run forward with God. And
(08:30):
so our third and final lesson is memorials are meant
to be shared. I'll read again from the Bible Book
of Joshua, chapter four, beginning at verse twenty three. For
the Lord, your God dried up the waters of Jordan
from before you until ye passed over. Fast forward, fast forward,
that all the people of the earth might know the
(08:51):
hand of the Lord. That it is Mighty. God designed
the memorial stones so children would ask questions, what is this?
Have you set up something in your home where your
children are going to ask? Is it a photo? Is
it a special Bible? Is it something else from your journey,
(09:12):
your experience, A chord, a ribbon? I don't know. Something
that lets them say, but Daddy, what is that? Mommy?
What is that? What is that? Every testimony is a
bridge to help the next generation trust the same God.
Here is your action step, Share one personal testimony of
(09:33):
God's power with someone. Your stone of remembrance could ignite
their faith in the Living God. Bless it be his name,
Make it a great day. Peace.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Thanks for joining us listening. Friends, Always remember we cannot
live by bread alone, but by every word that comes
from the mouth of God. This has been your daily
portion with El David Harris. Make it a great day. Yeah,
