Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too
much because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy
for today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect
yesterday's portion of heavenly manna, the word of God to
keep us through today's challenges. On this program, we are
going to change all of that. Let's experience God's words
(00:22):
today and receive the power we need to live healthy,
vibrant lives. Welcome to your Daily Portion with your host,
author speaker, Elle David Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning, good morning, Good morning. It is Wednesday, October fifteen,
twenty twenty five. Hello, my name is El David Harris.
I am your host, and this is your Daily Portion
where we give you God's word every single day, and
today is no exception. We are continuing in our lesson
study series Lessons of Faith from Joshua, and our caption
(00:55):
for today is forgetfulness Now. Yesterday we talked about remembering.
Now we're talking about for getting. Okay, let's just hold
fast for a moment. But before we get into that,
I'd like to say welcome to you and ask you
to go over to your Daily Portion dot com. Please
join our online community. Please pick up your Daily Portion
Life application guide and let us know where you are
(01:18):
in the world at your Daily Portion dot com. This
is one of the ways we continue to build faith
and fellowship. And in these moments here I just want
to see if you would come out to the of
course your Daily Portion YouTube platform on Friday evening at
seven pm, if it would be helpful to you something
(01:40):
creative that I have worked through with my son Josiah.
We talked about it and talked about it. I tried
it out on you the other day, just quickly, not
in reality, just quickly where we would go through the
lesson basically musically. Musically, we go through the lesson with
songs that no one has ever heard unless you live
in the house with me. And so let me know,
(02:02):
let me know if you would come out, and if so,
just put yes to music. Yes to music, and then
we will determine. We got another day to determine if
we're going to actually do it. Okay, so type that
in the chat and then I'll know which way to go. Father,
we thank you for this day, help us to remember
and not forget how good you are in Jesus name.
(02:26):
I pray Amen and Amen again forgetfulness forgetfulness. Okay, So
the lesson writer asked this question, why was it so
important to remember the mighty deeds of the Lord. Why
was it so important to remember the mighty deeds of
(02:46):
the Lord. And of course, of course they have multiple
passages for us to look through, but we'll do what
we can with those. Let's start with one from Joshua,
chapter three and verse seven. Joshua chapter three and verse seven.
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight
of God and forgat the Lord their God, and served
(03:08):
balem at the groves. So these folks who were being
led by God, who were called by his name, who
had the covenantal promises of God hm for then and
the future, those people, Oh, be careful when you point
the finger and say those people. But the fact is
those people forgot God. Yeah, the Bible says they forgot
(03:33):
the God who led them through the wilderness, the God
who gave them slippers that did not deteriorate over forty years,
the one who fed the manna from heaven hmm, their
water and bread, Their bread and water were sure God
had not forsaken his people, the one who got them
through the Red Sea on dry ground, the one who
(03:56):
got them through the Jordan River on dry ground, and
they still forgot their God and began to worship like
the people who did not know or love God. H
So the lesson is forgetting God always leads to failure.
Can I just say that right there? I don't care
what you're doing. I don't care if you're a billionaire
(04:18):
with a bee, real live money. If you're a billionaire
with a B and you are forgetting God, you will
fail and you are a failure. I'm not trying to
give you a complex. I'm just saying it is not
a good thing to bite the hand that feeds us.
It is not a good thing to forget how good
God has been when we went through that trial that
our money could not get us through, so our friendship
(04:40):
core could not get us through our hookups, and the
people we know that we go behind and say, well
you can do for me, those people could not help us.
And God helped us when our health was failing, or
the health of somebody else that we love was failing,
or when their health did fail and they passed away
and we were comfort less, and then God comforted us. Yes,
(05:02):
So forgetting what God has done, forgetting that he gave
us the rain when we were just and when we
were unjust, when he fed us, whether we deserved it
in air quotes or didn't. When we forget him, it
leads to failure. It's very simple, and so and so
(05:23):
and so. The generation after Joshua quickly turned from the
Lord because they forgot his mighty acts. Spiritual amnesia is dangerous.
It opens the door to idolatry and independence from God.
When we fail to remember what God has done, we
(05:46):
begin to rely on ourselves and fall into sin. And
so we need to take a spiritual inventory of God's
past deliverances in our lives. Write down three ways he
has rescued or sustained. You read that list every morning
(06:07):
from now until Sabbath. Just read the list. Yeah, count
your blessings one by one, remember that song. Read that
list until the Sabbath. You can read it every day,
really as a shield against doubt lesson. Number two comes
in from Psalm chapter seventy eight and verse eleven, very similar,
and forgot his works and his wonders that he had
(06:30):
shown them. So this was a big deal. It was
shown up in the scriptures all over the place because
God's people for some reason just don't choose to remember him. Sometimes,
God help us in twenty twenty five. So the first
lesson is remembering God renews faith and gratitude. Remembering God
renews faith and gratitude. God's miracles were meant to produce
(06:55):
lasting gratitude, not short term amazement. He's not trying to
impress you. Remembering what he has done strengthens trust for
what he will do next. God's failure, God's people's failure
to remember was not forgetfulness of mind. If this was
a mindset problem, a spiritual mindset problem, but it wasn't
(07:18):
that they really actually had amnesia, No, but a neglect
of the heart. They remembered, not his hand, what he
had done. So the lesson and action step is each evening,
ask God and thank him for one specific moment when
he showed his hand that same day, No matter how
(07:39):
small in air quotes, you think that it is. Gratitude
keeps your memory of His goodness alive. Gratitude. I want
you to be one of the few that go to
God and say thank you for when you crossed over
into someone's lane and you did not get run over
by the truck that was over there already. Say thank
God when your child came home from school because you
(08:02):
prayed for him or her. You prayed for them, and
you said, God, protect them today, and God said, yes,
I'll protect them today. Thank God. When you were able
to eat and drink today because He promised that he
would not forsake you, that he would give you the
food and water that you need. He gave you somewhere
to sleep. He gave you some clothes to wear. Whether
(08:23):
they're the optimal ones, are the ones you think that
you should have or not. But you were sheltered last night,
and you're here this morning listening and saying, yes, that's me,
that's me. So gratitude keeps your memory of God's goodness alive,
and our third and final lesson for it this morning.
(08:45):
Remembering God fuels obedience and for future generations faith. In
Juteronomy eight and verse two, we read it the other day,
and thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord
thy God led thee these four years in the wilderness.
God commanded his people to set up memorial stones so
(09:06):
future generations would learn to fear and trust him. To
remember God's works is to live under the awareness the
current awareness of His presence and power. Every remembrance of
His grace strengthens obedience and inspires worship. Let me read
(09:26):
very quickly from Life Sketches, page one ninety six. We
have nothing to fear for the future now you know
where it's found, except we shall forget the way the
Lord has led us and his teaching in our past history.
Thou shalt not forget the God who created you. Peace.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Thanks for joining us listening.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Friends.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Always remember we cannot live by bread alone, but by
every word that comes from the mouth of God. This
has been your daily portion with el David Harris. Make
it a great day. Yeah,
