Speaker 1 (00:01):
Most of us eat every day, some of us too much,
because yesterday's food is not enough to supply energy for
today's needs. Why then, do some of us expect yesterday's
portion of heavenly manna, the word of God to keep
us through today's challenges. On this program, we are going
to change all of that. Let's experience God's words today
(00:23):
and receive the power we need to live healthy, vibrant lives.
Welcome to your Daily Portion with your host, author speaker,
Elle David Harris.
Speaker 2 (00:33):

study series Lessons of Faith from Joshua, and our caption
(00:55):
for this Friday Morning I got mixed up is the
importance of unity and charity. The importance of unity and charity.
Before we get into that, I'd like to say welcome
to everyone joining us, especially those joining us for the

This is one of the ways that we continue to
build faith and fellowship. Let's pray, Father, we thank you
(01:37):
for this day of preparation. Thank you for loving us
so much and giving us everything that we have, everything
we need. Father, Please fill us with your Holy Spirit
in Jesus name, I pray, Amen and Amen again. The
importance of unity and charity. Now let me read from
(01:59):
me read from the book. Let's see the book Patriarchs
and Prophets, page five hundred nineteen. Beginning in page five
hundred nineteen, and it reads, even under false accusation, those
who are in the right can afford to be calm
(02:20):
and considerate. Did you hear that even under false accusation,
those who are in the right can afford to be
calm and considerate. So you don't have to get in
a tizzy like get wound up, get all wound up
because somebody said something that is not true. In fact,
(02:41):
Jesus warned us that this would happen, and he said
that you're in good company like people who were holy
before you, generations ago had the same challenge. And so
you can afford to be calm and considerate those who
are actuated by the spirit of Christ. We will possess
that charity which suffers long and is kind by my ma.
(03:08):
Let me go to quote from March eighteen, eighteen sixty two.
The review in Herald. Unity among God's people is a
sacred trust. It is preserved not by force, but by patience, charity,
and the spirit of Christ. Very interesting, very interesting, And
(03:31):
so our first lesson is coming in from you guessed
it first. Corinthians, chapter thirteen and verse four. The Bible reads,
charity or love suffereth long, or is patient, and is kind.
Charity envieth not. Charity does not brag or vaunteth not itself.
It is not puffed up. And so this word, this
(03:55):
word for charity or love is one that you're accustomed to. Agape. Agape.
It means self giving love grounded in God's character. The
Eastern tribes modeled agape when they listened patiently. Remember they
you know, there was some question about how they were
(04:16):
dealing with this. What they were doing, like is is idolatry?
Like two dot? Oh, what are you guys doing they
listened patiently, answered gently, and refused to retaliate under false accusation.
True unity cannot exist where love is absent. Charity makes
(04:37):
room for understanding, mercy and peaceful dialogue. So what is
the action step to practice agape today? Now, let me
just say very clearly that the first and great commandment
is to love our God with everything we have and
everything we are. Now, this is a miracle. The ability
(04:59):
to love God because He first loved us like that
is a miracle. So when we go down through to
the second and great commandment, namely this to love our
neighbor as ourselves, this kind of godly love agape love
the highest experience of love and principle, which is His character,
(05:21):
then it takes as much of a miracle as it
does to love God. We need the miracle of God
that comes when we surrender our will and He transforms
our character so that we can practice agape today by
giving someone the benefit of the doubt. Oh my, oh my,
(05:41):
So you're seeing everything that looks like it's pointing in
some direction. Hm hm. Even if some of the words
of the of the experience is true, are true, but
what are the intents what is the intent behind the words?
What are the experiences of the individual who's speaking or
not speaking, as the case may be. So we want
(06:02):
to give someone godly godly love and the benefit of
the doubt, extend kindness even when the person has not
earned it. That's agape. I love you despite what you do,
in spite of what you do. Lesson number two. Unity
reflects the character of Christ to the world, coming in
(06:25):
from John chapter seventeen and verse twenty one in his
high priestly prayer, and it reads that they all may
be one. This is what Jesus is begging his father for.
Please give them the kind of connection that you and
I have, that they may be one, as Thou Father
art in me and I in thee, that the world
(06:49):
may believe that thou hast sent me so a manifestation
of the fact that Jesus is indeed and in fact
who he said he is, whom the prophets forecast that
he would be. And all of that is that you
and you, you, dear brother, you dear sister, learn how
(07:14):
to love one another and become one or unified. That
is the manifestation on planet Earth that Jesus is in
fact who he said he is in fact, that the
prophets were correct about who he in fact is. How
many times can I say fact in a sentence so
that you now represent him? The Greek term for this
(07:34):
one hen pronounced hen just like it looks, meaning a
unified whole. Jesus prayed for his followers to experience unity
that mirrors the unity of the Godhead. Such oneness is
not uniformity. I said this to you the other day.
(07:55):
But shared purpose, shared spirit, shared love. Nothing testifies of
it writes power more than the people of God loving
one another deeply. The action step is to pray intentionally
for unity in your faith fellowship. Ask God to heal
(08:15):
the divisions, soften hearts, and bind members together. In Christ.
I will say that people are putting a lot of
effort into evangelism, and often oftentimes not nearly enough effort
in revival and reformation, not nearly enough effort in mending
the broken fences in church, not nearly enough time becoming unified. Jesus,
(08:42):
before he sent his people out on that special special
time in the first century church, he said, wait for
the Holy Ghost, and when he, the spirit of truth
has come upon you, he will guide you into all truth.
And then of course the first century believers, we're able
to teach the Gospel in a way that they had
(09:03):
never ever done. Okay, and so now in less than
number three we see true peace comes from trusting God
to vindicate us. In Psalm chapter thirty seven and verse five,
the Bible reads, commit thy way unto the Lord. Trust
also in him, and he will act on your behalf.
(09:24):
Turn one stressful relational situation over to God today. Pray, Lord,
I roll this burden on to you. You promise to
take it, bring peace and truth in your time. This
is the importance of unity. And thanks for joining us listening. Friends.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Always remember we cannot live by bread alone, but by
every word that comes from the mouth of God. This
has been your daily portion with el David Harris. Make
it a great day. Yeah,
