A Night of Fandom Awaits

Universal Studios Hollywood has aimed for the stars this year with their new Universal Fan Fest Nights and we have a full look at everything going on for this inaugural year. This is an unprecedented theme park event that layers the full park experience with an incredible amount of entertainment, experiences, dining, and shopping opportunities celebrating a wide range of fandoms.

Universal Fan Fest Nights is a new after-hours, extra-charge event offering a wide-ranging mix of fun experiences including sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, and anime. Unlike  Disneyland’s singular-themed “Nite” events, this offering takes a more expansive “buffet-style” approach, similar to Halloween Horror Nights, where ALL experiences are available EACH event night — so there’s no need to choose between them! There’s live entertainment, photo ops, and a welcoming atmosphere for cosplay which is not typically allowed during the day. Of course, there’s exciting themed dining menus, exclusive new merchandise, and more surprises! Let’s dive in!

There are SEVEN immersive activations inspired by fan-favorite IPs including  Back to the Future: Destination Hill Valley immersive experience, Star Trek: Red Alert walkthrough experience, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Secrets of Waterdeep walkthrough experience, One Piece: Grand Pirate Gathering area with meet and greet, Jujutsu Kaisen: Hunger of the Cursed4D video presentation, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter extras including magical creatures, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD: Let’s Go, Yoshi with a Yoshi egg scavenger hunt and Yoshi meet and greet.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, as we're looking around, I am so excited because
we're at Universal Studios Hollywood, which opened in nineteen fourteen.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Can you imagine this is all farmland around here? Look
at this.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
This was actually farmland in nineteen thirteen, purchas in nineteen thirteen,
the nineteen thirteen fourteen turning the University Studios Hollywood. We're
here for fan Fest, where we're celebrating anime, sci fi, gaming,
and of course history like Back to the Future, one
of my favorites. All right, so we're gonna go in
and celebrate everything that is. Let's go inside. We're gonna

(00:32):
check it all out. I gotta get in and I
gotta check it out.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Now here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
We're gonna pall around with some stuff, and I want
to show you some cool stuff that's happening into opening
up fast years off stuff. I want to cover all
that on your nerd side today. But one of the
cool things is I want to cover is fan Fest
and it doesn't kick off to six o'clock. So we
got a lot of stuff to do around here. Let's
get inside and see how we got to set up
all this good stuff. All right, with all these fans
let's start your nerd side, and then we're gonna go

(00:57):
in oh oh, and not.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Some for guests.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
We've got we've got access to talk to all the
management here exactly what fantastic is.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
So let's start it off. Let's get in.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
So I was saying earlier nineteen fourteen, this place was
originally founded by Taylor Ranny I said his name in
German immigrant that purchased this land and it was called
the Taylor Ranch. He had his idea of making these
things that would never fly and never work, the craziest
thing in the world called movies motion pictures. But it

(01:34):
did work, the silent films actually, and he opened it
for ten thousand people, a big grand opening. People loved it,
and he started the silent films that you can see.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Back up here.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
They but really like capture the whole atmosphere of it. Well,
they filmished silent films and it wasn't until nineteen I
want to get the exact date here write this, nineteen
thirty the silent films were dead, killed off, So no,
we're silent films here.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
So they had to stop these wars.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
They did, and he charged five cents for people to
come in just to watch how a film was made.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
And they got to walk around. And remember that time,
they had no noise.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
They didn't have these microphones that we do now, so
they just did whatever they want. It wasn't until nineteen
sixty let me get this, nineteen sixty four that the
commission or the people that made the money there, the
accounting company, said you know what, if we open tours again,
I think he make some money.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
And they did.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
And as the years progressed, more and more. Is that
it until it turned into University Studios, a major theme
park that it is today. So and we're here for fans.
Look at all these people company for FanFest. Remember it's
still early. Now, it's still early. We've got time until
at least what did they say, five point thirty kicks off.
So we'll show you everything on there. And don't laugh

(02:48):
at me if my clothes change was even filmed. This
over two days, So give me a break, because there's
a lot to cover. Let's walk down the place, check
it out. The merchant seem to get any merch Let's go.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I gotta be excited. Universal Studios treating it so good
like this.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
This is day two, believe or not it seems like
day one, it's actually dayterior.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
So we're going into the Star Trek red alert. It's
an experience for fanfast now. Star Trek think about this.
Nineteen sixty six first came out.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Gene Roddenberry, who is a huge fan of science fiction,
created from different stories from the fifties that create Star
Trek nineteen sixty six.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It doesn't even going on.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
They gave such a low budget, but they actually green
lit it with an episode movie which turned over and
changed it to a series.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Okay, here's the thing why Star Trek is so groundbreaking.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Well, you got think in the sixties we had Lieutenant Whore,
Lieutenant African American sixties silvi unress.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
This is fantastic.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Not only that is William Shatner got the Kirk, kicked her,
kissed her on.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Television, which was not very okay back then.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
On top of that, the series also had Russians as
part of the crew, which we were going to the
Cold War breaking groundbreaking stuff that The Star Trek did.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
I fell in love with it years.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Later in the eighties when it was a repeats. Not
only is Star Trek breaking boundaries, but how many movies
we got seven movies, eight spinoffs, ten TV shows, three cartoons, another.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Movies, and Hulu.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Let me get this right, Amazon, all the TV shows
and you catch them, cartoons, video games, you name it.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Non stop stuff they're doing. Let's go inside.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Here and then when I talk to people and we'll
go around, ask them a million dollar question or card
or Kirk, that's a question.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Everyone want to know.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
I'm geeking out right now, let's go check it out,
fan pest, star trek a red alert and go.

Speaker 2 (04:44):

we're going to go on the ride.

Speaker 8 (10:30):

Speaker 8 (10:50):
Man, here, this is so awesome I'm with this, beautiful gentleman, amador.
How long you been at Universal Studio.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
I've been here for about I'm almost seven years. Yeah,
I just had seven years, dude. All right, this is
the first time.

Speaker 8 (11:05):
And I can say this because they're probably gonna kill
me because I'm I'm I work with Disney too, and
I'm coming to Universal sneaking over here because I heard.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Nothing but good things about this FanFest.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
All right, So Disney does this like May the Fourth
Be with You this nineties night they did this night.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
You guys did fan best. Do you know why you
picked on the certain ones?

Speaker 8 (11:24):
It's just big like Back to the Future, Star Trek,
Dungeons and Dragons. I can understand the I can understand
what's it called the guy the.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Hat a month piece? Like, yeah, I've never seen that,
but I know the kids are all into it. Why
did you guys pick that? Well, I was not told
on what ips were chosen.

Speaker 7 (11:41):
Uh huh, But you know a lot of fans are
excited that we have the dragons one piece again, those
those lines to me are pretty long, you know, the
funny anniversary Back to the Future.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I guess that's why that was chosen. I hope the
God has happens again next year.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
I'm praying, I'm I'm hearing positive things. So most likely yes,
but don't quote.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Me on that. We're in the Bay Area. We see
very little.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
This only with on social media, so everybody expect me
to a lot of my friends would want to know.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I want to know.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
No, no, what we see it Back to the Future
on social media looks freaking amazing.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
The actors, the airth that's and that's at the bottom,
that's down. You got to take a tram to get there, right,
so that is great. You take the studio tour and
they do let you get off.

Speaker 7 (12:25):
Yeah, so you get off where they filmed Back to
the Future where the clock tower scene is.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
It's really cool.

Speaker 7 (12:31):
They have a bunch of characters down there that you
guys can interact with. Again, it's the nineteen fifties down there,
nineteen fifty five, fifty five, okay, nineteen fifty five. Again,
you see monument Fly down there. You can interact with him,
interact with the bullies as well. I don't know their names. Yeah,
fifenn there, Yes, and then you do see his parents

(12:54):
as well.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Oh wow.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
Yeah, So it's good to stay down there for I
want to say, probably about like forty five minutes to
an hour, so you see everything I heard. The clock
tower is gonna get electricity struck to it.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
So look, yes, some clock tower. How the hell you
guys doing this?

Speaker 7 (13:09):
I don't want to give it away, but I know
you're coming to the event, yes, so please. I don't
know how it's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, I liked it. I'm not gonna say. You'll see
videos later on okay.

Speaker 8 (13:19):
And then we have Star Trek too, Yes, we're going
on the bridge, yes, and we take an elevator to
goes down and everything like that.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
And well, I don't want to give away there are
things that happen there. So it was pretty exciting. I
haven't really seen uh yet.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
I know I have, but I'm not.

Speaker 7 (13:37):
I haven't seen Star Treks so much, but from what
I've seen and experience, it was pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Oh my god. Okay, don't get dungeons and dragons amazing.
That is amazing. I'm not into that either, but I'm amazing. Okay,
dungeons and dragons, So then who I feel? Oh so Mario.

Speaker 8 (13:56):
World, Yeah, now he's got to get a crown. My
son's here, he's got to get a crown with all
these eggs on it. Yes, there is special Yoshi's right. Yes,
there's two of them. Okay, so it can either be
the blue one or the Phoenig one. All right, Yes,
so there's a little Eastern time going on there.

Speaker 7 (14:11):
And then I would say go to Tosal Cafee because
they have new food to try as well, alright, with
some Yoshi stuff, yes, okay, and then we have more
Yoshi merch.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Well the Universal Studios. Do you want to take my
wallet now or later on? They'll take it? Okay.

Speaker 8 (14:31):
So we got those three done, and then we've got
still Harry Potter. Harry Potter, is that having upstairs? Are
they adding more stuff in there?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Well? That was the one thing I missed. I was
not able to do that myself.

Speaker 7 (14:46):
But I've heard so many great things about the creatures
that they have from Fantastic Beast and then the new
Hogwarts site show it's completely new, really good.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
So that was the one thing I did not see. Okay,
did I miss anything? I get them off. I had
to miss the jiu jitsu kaizu that's at that dreamwork.
Is it good? That's the one thing I missed. Too.
Oh my god.

Speaker 7 (15:08):
But we're here for two days, okay, so I'll be
able to do everything and do it twice, right, yes,
all right, all right, thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Problem this guys, look at this. I gotta get one
of these and Universal Studios. I am taking care of
you guys so well this weekend. I love you.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
All right, We're gonna walk around, We're gonna check out
everything and make sure if you're not hearing this, seeing
the video, got audio podcast talking to people to see
what they think about it live and Universe Studios for
dan Fest. So I want to explain a little bit
more about Dungeons and Dragons. All right, Dungeons and Dragons
a game, or actually call it a group party. Let
mean people come together and play this role playing game.

(15:43):
Let me get this right in my notes, right, it's
a dungeon masters in charge and writes down everything, tells
you what your quest is and what you're gonna do.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Remember, it's not really a game to quest.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
You go on for months and months and you write
everything down in journals and books, and it goes on
and on and on and on.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
So this is what happened.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
It starts and you roll with seven dice tells you
what your outcome is, what you're gonna do, what happens,
and this is all set up by the dungeon master.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
You got this so far, now listen to this.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Movies, cartoons, TV series, books, magazines, and games.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
And I didn't want to forget video games.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
That's what Dungeons and Dragons led to, all from nineteen
seventies when some nerds wanted to come up with a
game to play, a role playing game. So now that
we've seen everything Dungeons and Dragons here, let's go experiment.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Without Paul and see what they got. Let's go with
my friends.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Were in Dungeons and Dragons and look at all this stuff.
This is all the stuff I used to play with
when I was two days ago. I'm kidding, I was
sixteen years old. Line, splay this stuff, all right, Let's
see the video.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
And see how this works out.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Make sure to always follow us on social media. Ad
make sure to always follow us on social media at
your nerds side.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
So we're walking.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Around and Dungeons and Dragon is an interactive show. It's alright,
it's not the best. What they're doing is they have
two actors portraying two differents. One is an wizard and
the other one is some kind of I don't know,
mythical creature. They're going forward trying to figure out how
to get this one so they can take out the

(17:23):
evil of the land.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
That's what he went through.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
All right, Coming up next, we're gonna cover Harry Potter
and see what mystical things they're doing tonight.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Duncle, no his name? What's his name? Snake to think?

Speaker 1 (17:40):
All right, let's go, Sorry, Harry Potter, We're gonna go
see what Harry Potter's all about.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
So, of course university is Harry Potter's got its own
land here. But this was a little different. They said.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
They added some well beasts from the Fantastic Beast.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
We'll see what's in here in the wizzying world of
Harry Potter. Let's go in and take a look at it.
Thanks to you.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Yeah, listen, I'm everyone I meet tonight has zero experience.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
We neither do I.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
So you know we're winning this.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
We go on. What's your name? Oh that's a nice name.
I don't know his name. I just named Rob. Yeah,
what do you think?

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Do you want to give him a name?

Speaker 8 (18:23):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Thanks?

Speaker 6 (18:25):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I can see why you did that a little bit right?
So we're walking through here. I don't know why. Every
quiet like it's a museum.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
We're in nineteen fifty five at the University Studios backlot.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Look at this. We're gonna walk around and check it out.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
So far we get star treking to night and get
done the dragons not that, and this is the group
of starf the tram with me.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
We're gonna check it out. Look, we got a line
of states over here. So we got a line of
states things for all the movies. Now we're going downtown
Hill Valley. My son are took off. Let's see nineteen
fifty five. Just oh my god. So we got the

(19:14):
Hill Valley Attorneys of Law. We got Welcome to Hill Valley, California.
Soon up some breaks cars everything. Yeah, that is the
actual clock cower. There's the clock tower. Leave there, came here?

(19:39):
How much does it costs? And fill up the car?
How much as you fell? Forty two gallon? Forty two
cents a gallley? Oh my god, what a ripoff. Only
so so far I'm in seen Biff or mc martin McFly.

(20:01):
We're gonna look for him. This is pretty awesome.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
We're actually at the Enchantment under the Seed Dance and
look alike exactly. Looks like Martin McFly is on stage
filling him playing at.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
The Enchantment under Your Seed Dance. So there's a.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Stage right in front of us, everybody's watching it, and
he's playing. And well, right now, looks like the bullies
are pushing George away Laura Lorraine Baines during the movie.
So now Marty's starting to well his I guess he's
falling apart.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
I guess he's not existing. Oh my god. All right, guys,

(21:23):
just try to keep up. Okay, well he did it.
We're back again. Okay, so what we're tending now?

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Now he's playing Johnny be Good and then he's gonna
run out, and my son.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Is out there dancing with the band.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
It's back to the future fan Fest University Studios, Hollywood
with your nerd side.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
So going round, I'm dude of income and weather.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
The dance has been canceled, all dismissed, so I'm pretty

(23:11):
excited about this ride behind me, fast and furious. This
is the Hollywood Drift. It's pretty amazing how fast they
got it up. Opens up as you're watching the show
right now or listening to the podcast. Sorry, either way
you're doing it. It's opening this summer, and I'm pretty
impressed how fast.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
I got up. I mean, look at the tracks on
this thing.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
And I haven't talked about it because everything I've talked
to any management here has been about well fan fast.
But I'm pretty impressed about how fast I got up,
how big it is, and how it interacts and how
it goes through the park itself. So I can't give
you much information that openings up. It looks fantastic on
the tram ride itself, which will take later on today.

(23:52):
They actually pulled this ride which was featured on There
was an interactive thing just for this. Because it's out here,
I'm going to show you some of the footage of
what we did. Walked around, look around. These are different
things that we did and saw on it. You see
how it goes underneath or above the escalator going downstairs,
at all the side tracks there. It's huge that this
is the big, big summer opening for University Studios, Hollywood.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Show. We're at Super Nintendo World. This is amazing. So
we did this earlier. I'll show you the video of
the movie right now. If you want to take it.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
So we collicked it on all stick eyes and everything
like that, and we got to go see the Pink Yoshi,
which we were the first ones to see him. Yeah,
the first one to see him. Okay, so now we're
going to experience all this. So the big thing is
you get to meet Yoshi. He's not hearing it for
fantast but I never did this far, So Aaron Michael,
I just take this and do this.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Get this one okay, now one idea.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
That I do.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
But I did it? Did I can hear it again?
So I have to get a go.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
Did I lose what?

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Oh my god, I'm a loser. So this is quite interesting.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
I'm here at University's University studios for the Manz.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
And they're celebrating everything. One piece. Now we're gonna try
to break this down the best I can. Now. Most
of the things we did.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
For Star Trek were walkthroughs, walk crews, interactive stuff like that.
One piece a little different. They're meet and greets with
the characters dressed up. We've got one over there, We've
got one here, we got another one over there.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Now.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
One piece is a Japanese mangoes. This is here, and
I'm gonna try to break this down to you the
best I can.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Nineteen ninety seven.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
One Piece first came out with the one hundred and
eleven volgumes of these novels or graphic novels.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
You might get. Look how they're into this.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
I mean, they really follow this, and I guarantee I've
talked to a lot of people they're.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Getting into it. And I'm actually gonna talk watch some
of these. Okay. Nineteen ninety seven TV Years becames out
the cartoon for One Piece, and then we got fourteen
films they had, I'm not kidding, fourteen films, and then.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Netflix two thousand and three year released the One Piece
cartoon or movie life.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Take a look at everything from their looking.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Around, all the different people they dress up, the characters
and cross play.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
They love this thing. It is amazing. They're all dressed
up for this. They love it. And I gotta tell
you anime for me, they're a certain anime alike. I
like the older anime, so eighties and nineties. This One Piece.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
I haven't gotten into it or watched it, but it
is like they love it and they lost lost stressing
of it. So all right, all right, I'm back in
the studios.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
I caught up my sleep.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
There was so much from Universal Studios Fan Fast did
i'd even get to show you guys, now I'm being serious,
from the walk around to the costplay. There was costplay
on stage.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
The food.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
I ate the food and I was so hungry. The
one piece food was fantastic. The Star Trek food a
little too small. Star Trek had a bar I drank
in there. But every time I went to go do stuff,
the cameras to be were off doing something else. The
picture taking, the oh my god, contests, you name it,

(27:46):
the Star Trek merch, the I bought so much stuff?

Speaker 2 (27:50):
All right, all right, I got all that the real right.
So what did I think about it? One to scale
one to ten.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
I give it an eight and a half. Close to
ten though, And the only things that limited was sometimes
you didn't know where things are going. You just needed
a map to give out and more clarity on the
app that would have helped. But otherwise than that, it's
just gonna get bigger and bigger and bigger. So I
have to say Universal Studios, thank you inviting us out

(28:16):
the FanFest. It was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Will we be back next year.

Speaker 7 (28:21):
Oh hell yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (28:22):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
