Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez. It's up you war
with Mario Lopez joining me down in studio from the
real house. So I was of Beverly Hills, Erica, Jane.
How are you, Erica? I'm good, Honey. How are you?
I'm well? Thank you. You are a constant presence at
the Casa Lopez Lopez home. Yes, Lopez, there's always a
version of a housewife on. But I've seen you, uh
(00:20):
do a lot of things. All right, Well, there's a
lot to talk about. But first off, you've got a
new memoir out. I do very cool looking book right here.
Pretty process. Just complimented you on those um pretty mess. Yeah,
fun title. What inspired you to write this? I think
it was the right time, and I think it was
(00:40):
a great way to let the reader, you know, get
to know me a little bit more. It's tough to
explain your story and an ensemble show forty minutes once
a week, so this was kind of a way to
let the audience in. Yeah, and a memoir for people
may not be familiar. It's not necessarily an autobiography. It's
just sort of it could be an extra of your
life or sort of how you got here to this
point exactly. It's almost like a series of short stories.
(01:02):
If you will, there you go, there you go. What
was the most difficult part to revisit? I think, well
it wasn't you know. It's interesting because people have often said,
you know, do you find this process cathartic or something
like that. I said, no. The toughest part was, um,
remember you know, you you forget how much of a
life you really live and the things that you've done,
and also to being a child and putting um, your
(01:24):
childhood in perspective, like my mother's divorces, you know, back
and forth and things like that. Being forty six and
looking back on it, you know, my mom really helped
me with the timeline and it was interesting, you forget
some some pretty important thing. Moms will will help you
with that, Moms chapter in verse when he left like that,
do you not remember? I'm like, no, I was ten,
give me a break, and I tried to forget it. Yeah.
(01:45):
It can be therapeutic too. I mean, I listen, I
think you should go to therapy if that's what you're after.
I wouldn't look at a book as writing for therapy,
but I do think it. Um, it definitely puts some
things in order, for sure. Yeah, it's a good time
to look back. Yes, it was a good time to
look back. It's a great way to say exactly. Uh,
let's talk housewives. Yeah, let's do it. Season eight reunion
(02:06):
special is coming up. Those things always would just shot it?
Did you just shoot it? It's like a marathon of
a shoot high here? Right. Yeah, it's a long, long,
long day. It's um mentally tiring, you know, and you know,
like an interrogation, I feel like what's his name just
likes to stir things up just cause problems, just for
the sake of cause. Well, I think that that's kind
of the platform. You know, no one wants really wants peace,
(02:28):
you know, I no, no, I get it, but it'll
the whole. So knowing that and and going into it
knowing that, does it make it easier? Is it's still
difficult to deal with. I think that it's all on
how you view it. And for me this year, it
wasn't necessarily there wasn't something that I like, and no
one walked out in tears. I didn't have a meltdown
or anything like that. But that often happens, right, oh,
(02:49):
all the time. I mean you know. Yes, people are angry.
People are you know, crying, people are mad at one another.
I raised my voice. I get my point across, and
you know, sometimes I'm a little heavy handed, but that's
also why I'm sitting on the couch. Yeah. Uh. In
recent episodes, you and Teddy have been button heads. Is
that relationship over? Are you willing to reconcile? I'm always
(03:11):
willing to reconcile. As a perfect example, my reconciliation with
Dert this year, I said I would put it behind me,
and I did and we moved on. And that's been,
um so a different shift this year. Uh, Teddy and
I could do the same thing if both parties agree.
And are you happy essentially with the way you're being
portrayed overall on the show? I think that, um listen,
(03:31):
would I rather have total creative control, of course, but
when you don't, I think that Housewives has been more
or less very fair. And uh, I couldn't get on
your show and say anything bad about it. Yeah, I
signed up for it. Well, your diplomatic confident attitude you
have right there. I mean, everyone's got to know. There's
what I don't know if everyone knows, but there's always
editing going on. So there's always editing, and there's always
(03:53):
you know what, it's at the end of the day,
it's a television show, period, right, so no at so
off camera, do some women and they can remain nameless,
do they take it a little more serious and maybe
you're a little bit more passionate about it than others.
Some women come in with an agenda. Yes, wow, wow,
game face the whole time. Okay, you're not you're not looking.
(04:15):
You're not looking at one of them? Yeah, fair enough,
Yeah you're not. Is it true that between hair, makeup
and wardrobe you're you're spending like forty grand mom, and
you can I think all performers can, you know, especially
so you've spent you've spent forty grand. I mean, you're
you're doesn't look like you didn't need you need forty No,
but you're talking about let's say, like you're you know,
show months or something like that. You know, you're talking
(04:36):
about wardrobes, costumes, hair makeup, production, all that kind of stuff.
So you put that all together, it's very easy to
go through something like that. I mean, in forty on
what I do you know? Some people spend up to
a hundred and more. You know you've been around a
long really, Wow, gosh, do you do something easy? Be happy? Yeah?
I know I don't. Yeah, but you know, it can
be that way, and I know that it sounds crazy,
(04:58):
but it's also a business. And if you look at
it that way, then that kind of puts things in
better perspective. You need a full time job just to
be able to supply that. Yeah, you do. Just you know,
you're making it and you're turning it over right right right. Wow,
it's been almost a year since your shoulder and joy
I remember on Dancing with the Stars. Yeah, that was painful.
How are you feeling much better? Have you healed pretty much?
(05:18):
I have? Yeah, I still I've done well. I did
a lot of therapy. And you know, did you tear
a rotator? Cough or what was it? There were tears
inside the humorous so yeah, it was ugly, um, but
we got it all sorted out. Okay, good? Yeah? Good good?
You miss dancing? Do I miss dancing dancing or Dancing
with Stars? Both? Both? Yeah? Both? I mean they're both great.
(05:39):
I mean I'm back to dancing. I'm performing actually at
White Party at the end of April. Well, yeah, I
want to talk about that. You're headlining Jeffrey Sanger's Big
Wide Party later this month. What are you playing as
far as it performance, Well, I have a new song
that's coming out in two weeks, so it will be
the first chance to perform to the song. So that's
kind always a kind of fun. What's the name of
the song titled? The song is cars, and it kind
of references, you know, a song back in the eighties,
(06:00):
So it's kind of fun. Which song in the eighties? Cars?
In the eighties, I like the cars that go boom?
That's right, boom yeah, shrim Yeah, what's your spin on it? Well,
you have to wait and see. It's just kind of fun.
He's no little teaser right now now, alright, alright, well
we'll have to check it out right there. Okay, you
big hip hop fan? Totally okay? Yeah, yeah, that's a
(06:22):
massive influence in my life. I like, you know, we're
from Atlanta. I'm from Atlanta. Yeah, but here in l A.
Where when you moved to Telly where'd you move? My
first apartment was on Orange and Fountain, Hollywood, Baby, right
in the heart kind of like over the hill that way. Yeah, yeah,
not too far from too far from where we are.
And I saw you did reading with Tyler Henry Hollywood Medium.
Hey he's a cool guy. Have you Has he read you? Ye,
(06:44):
he's been in that chair many times. Okay, And and
how was your experience? I thought it was great. I mean,
I think Tyler has a gift. He hit on some
very obvious things. But privately he told me some things
that no one else could know. Why need you to
share them privately? And not because they were a little sensitive,
you know, they were a little too for a public consumption. No,
the family. What he was talking about me? Yeah, he
(07:06):
wasn't talking about my personal He was talking about someone
else in my opini. He gave some very specific information
that no one knows really, Yes, very specific information. Um,
and that is that was impressive. Okay. So he walked
away impressed. Well I walked away thinking that you know,
he's good at what he does. Yeah, for sure. Huh
were you skeptical at all going in? No, because I
believe that we are all a little psychic. You know,
(07:28):
if you get your gut feeling and you you know
certain sometimes you just know certain things, and then others
are more open than that. You know too. It just
kind of depends on who you are as a person.
I think there's into you know, the intuition is one thing.
Being able to talk to dead people. I think a
little different. But yeah, I mean what about you. Are
you a skeptic? Yeah, I gotta be honest with you.
I I I would feel bad if he wanted to
(07:51):
read me a bunch of times. I would saying, Tyler, listen, buddy, um,
if you don't get it right on the head, I'm
just gonna agree with because I feel bad. I don't
want to let you down. Really, I don't want I
don't want my wife wants to do it. I don't
want want to talk to the dead people. I was
a Catholic. I feel like it's wrong. I don't know.
I'm just like kind of classic. Yeah, I don't know.
It was a good Catholic. But they were all practicing.
(08:15):
Fair enough, all right. I want to put you on
the spot. Quick questions. Let's do it. Okay, current song, obsession,
my car, my song. There you go, like, we don't
know how it's going. That's right, but your clothes. Last
movie saw in theaters The Post with Meryl Street. Okay,
nickname growing up a little bird, little bird, little bird.
(08:38):
Why everyone all throughout my life has always called me
a little bird? I don't know. My started at home.
And it's funny because my husband calls me a little
bird as well, but he never knew that my family did. Yeah,
it's kind of interesting ladybird in that movie, but a
little bird. Favorite item in your closet geez tough um geez.
I don't know, probably some piece of jewelry or something
(09:00):
that's fair, that is fair. Time travel destination, I'd like
to see my time. Oh, time travel. Excuse me, I
was gonna go let's go to say shells in the
MLTI stuff. Let's go there now. If you can go
back in any era for like a week, to hang
out a week, I don't know. There'd be a couple
of times. I mean, I'd like to see the Roman
empirate at its height. I think i'd like to see Cleopatra.
(09:21):
I'd like to see, you know, just kind of you know,
Egypt and all it's it's glory and I think that, yeah,
why not why not watch the Birth of the Nation.
I don't know, a couple of different places you could
get one history we'll avoid the plague and the acquisition
and you know the stuff. We want to be with
the Romans. Yeah, I wanna be within the height of glory, right, Yeah?
(09:42):
Who plays you in your life story? But I don't
know someone great, hopefully. I have no idea someone really
cute idea. No actress in mind who you've cast not,
you know, I've never even thought of that. So the
answer is no, I have no one in mind. Jennifer Lawrence.
She's a housewife fan, she is a housewife actress. She's
an incredible little actress. Incredible. I haven't eve thought of that. Mario, Okay,
(10:05):
they're not gonna make a movie about you, don't worry
about it. He never say never. Well, yeah, celebrity cruds
are growing up. Ah, so that's just alone, is rocky?
H Yeah? Mine too? Yeah, I mean like he immediately
immediately comes to minds nice alright and maybe and maybe
(10:26):
like Burt Reynolds is you know smoking were the same
the same age. So I love that movie. That's an
underrating movie with Jackie Gleeson When I get home, When
I'll punch your Mama right in the mouth movie. It
was just on the other day. Really, I feel like
seeing it now you go back, it's really redneck, you know,
in a shot. Really it is really red neck. And
(10:47):
he's got the Confederate flag on his license plate right there. Yeah,
it's funny. Meanwhile, Real Housewives Beverly Hills Theirs Tuesdays on Bravo.
