Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now here's a highlight from Coast to Coast AM on iHeartRadio. Okay,
welcome back to Coast to Coast George Norry with you
and the author of the book The Power of Mercury,
Leslie McGuirk, is a professional astrologer with more than thirty
years experience. You can explain how everything in nature has
a pattern, like a tree trunk does or a snowflake,
and we have a pattern as well. An astrology chart.
(00:23):
Leslie brings astrology to life so that you can use
it to help better understand your place in the world. Leslie,
welcome back. It's good to have you on the show. Thanks.
I'm excited to be here on this very auspicious day.
Why are people panicking about this January twelfth astrological day
because it's a big deal. And I have to tell you, George,
(00:43):
you're one of the lucky ones. I just know your
birthday in year and this particular Saturn Pluto conjunction is
not affecting you the way it is a lot of
other people. But it is a very very powerful thing.
It's a planetary cycle that is intense. If it's hitting
your chart at an angle or if it's on your sun.
(01:06):
Like anyone who's a Capricorn right now, especially if they're
born around January tense to the seventeenth, they're getting hit
big time, and same with cancers. It's a very powerful change.
And how I like to explain it is that Saturn
is like a taskmaster and a drill sergeant. And when
(01:29):
you put that together with Pluto, which is like the
planet of death and rebirth, it's kind of nuclear. And
it's very interesting that just yesterday we heard that Meghan
Marko and Prince Harry are not going to be doing
their royal duties. That's pretty much symbolic of the ending
of a cycle, and it's like a bomb went off
(01:51):
for the royal family. And that is a very profound,
big shift. And when it happens to someone's personal chart
and you feel like it's the end of whatever you
knew life was, it can feel very scary and very disconcerting.
It's a recalibration time. I have heard some astrologers say
(02:12):
that they believe this date could be a trigger for
World War three or anything. Horrible situation. Is that true?
This is where astrology is possibly dangerous when you get
into saying things like that, because Astrology is a language
and it's used to decipher the symbolic meaning of world
(02:32):
events or of a person's soul. So yet I would
one hundred percent agree that it's possible. The last time
Saturday in Pluto did something in the United States that
was very difficult was when we had the bombing of
the World Trade Center, and that was different than the
one that's happening on January twelfth. That one was called
(02:53):
an opposition. This one is a conjunction, which means on
January September eleventh that when those two planets I just described,
the Taskmaster and the planet of deathinary Birth, they were
opposite each other, sort of like on a teeter totter,
fighting with each other. Now they are holding hands and
they are coming in together to basically have a total
(03:15):
paradigm shift. So it's as if the entire planet right
now has been living as if the world is flat,
and now all of a sudden, the world is going
to become round, and no one knows what to do
about it. So it feels quite frightening, and it's a
new vision for the world. And how this shows up
(03:35):
in your life depends upon the daytime and place of
your particular birth, but you are absolutely right that it's
possible that something like that could happen. We hope not.
But when astrologer can never say precisely how things are
going to actually manifest. The other way I try to
explain this kind of a cycle is that pretend all
(03:57):
of us are like a little caterpillar walking down the
street and one day, all of a sudden, the eyeballs
melt and this poor little creature looks like it's dying
and it's actually becoming something new. But does it feel good. No,
And it's very traumatic, and that process of the multi
of the entire being into something new can be very painful.
(04:21):
A lot of people right now are suffering from grief
and depression and anxiety because we're going through collectively this
massive change. And then that little caterpillar is supposed to
turn into a butterfly. And if you resist what's happening
and you get stuck, then it's like that little creature
is part caterpillar, part butterfly, but it never really quite
(04:42):
transitions through. And what we have to do right now
is make sure that we're in alignment with these forces
that are going on, that we're not freaking out that
we have to digest the consequences of this new threshold
that we're crossing, because we're basically entering a turning point
in our entire civilization, and it's an invasion of the unknown.
(05:05):
It's an involuntary shakeup. We're being asked to completely and
utterly surrender. We're not in charge. This is a cycle
that's been planned for a long time. This is something
a lot of astrologers have been looking at for many,
many years, and our job as astrologers is to be
the person that can help people navigate it. And it's
(05:28):
one reason why George your show is so incredibly important
right now, and why astrology is so vital is because
nothing else can really explain this to people, and we're
all out there trying to deal with something that we
have no understanding. We can't comprehend what's going on. It's
a whole new world. We've been living in this horizontal
(05:50):
world where things that used to work aren't working anymore.
Western medicine doesn't quite work the way we want it to.
We're getting new disease is new autoimmune things and antibiotics
aren't working, and there's a lot of things that are
changing what we're moving into is a completely vertical world
where it's more about dealing with cosmic things, which is
(06:13):
astrology or things that are more earthbound. So it's more
of an above and below thing, a vertical transition as
opposed to a horizontal view of life. Well, this alignment
of Saturn Pluto do they say it happens every thirty
three to thirty eight years. That's a long span. Yeah,
it is a long span. And the last time we
(06:34):
had this exact one was nineteen eighty two. That was
when we had the collapse of the Soviet Union. The
one before that was nineteen forty seven, it was soon
after World War Two ended, and the one before that
was when World War One started. So it always signifies
something big, and this has been building. It started with
(06:55):
Saturn entering Capricorn in December of twenty seven ten and
it's been building all through twenty nineteen, so people shouldn't
freak out too much. If you got through twenty nineteen,
you know still going on. And the exact hit though,
is the one that's on the twelfth of January, and
that's why it's such a big important day. And getting
(07:20):
back to the Royal family what's interesting is that it's
at twenty two degrees of Capricorn. That's why I say
Capricorns are getting hit pretty bad. Queen Elizabeth, her ascendant,
which means how she presents to the world, is exactly
at twenty two degrees of Capricorn. So those two planets,
like I said, the Taskmaster Drill Sergeants, the planet of
(07:42):
Death Mary Birth are hitting her. So's everything that happened
with Prince Andrew, everything that's now happening with Prince Harry.
I'm sure she's feeling like life as I knew it
is over. Yeah, she's a little overwhelmed right now, I
would imagine, and a lot of people are really having
a very very difficult times. It's intense if you happen
(08:04):
to have planets that are in Capricorn around that twenty
two degree number, or if you're a cancer, same thing
for cancers, it feels more like you're being attacked by
outside forces. That is a different kind of feeling than
when those two planets are sitting right on top of you.
And the other two signs that are being affected right
(08:24):
now as well, are anyone who's an Aries or a Libra.
So it's not everyone's getting the complete total feeling of
being pulverized, but those four particular signs are getting it
the worst. But like I said, George, for you, this
particular conjunction is kind of accelerating the power that you
(08:49):
have as an influencer to help people navigate what's going
on right now. So for you, I would say this
is a kind of an interesting and powerful thing because
people are looking for someone like you to help them
figure out how to get through these things. And how
long does the event lasts? Even though it starts on
that day, it's going to be as soon as we
(09:13):
get through the twelve it starts to dissipate a little bit.
But we're going to have Saturn next to Pluto for
the entire year of twenty twenty. Okay, it doesn't really
end until February of twenty twenty one, so we can't
freak out. That's just not a useful thing to do.
(09:33):
We've got four options. You can use their fight and
go crazy and complain and do all those kinds of things,
which sometimes is an okay option if you actually fight
and put your energy towards something that you care about
and want to change, whether it's helping the environment or
helping a nonprofit. That's not a bad thing. The other
(09:53):
thing you can do is just go into exile. Where's
my safe place. I know a lot of very wealthy
people who are all taking off for New Zealand right now,
So that's always an option. The other choice is to
have an inner inside kind of go deep deep inside
your own small little group and there you quietly do
(10:13):
what you need to do. And the fourth option is
you can just run with the wolves and just get
out there into the world and find your power. And
we have to do something. We're in an absolute crisis
as a society on this earth, and intellectuals aren't having
the kind of impact that they used to have. Everything
(10:34):
right now has become much more like based on pure instincts,
and a lot of it has to do with just fear,
anxiety and grief, and even with grief when you know
that something's ending, get back to that image of the
little caterpillar, when you know life as you knew it
was ending, you have to go through some sort of
(10:54):
stages of grief. But we have to look at it
that there's something on the other side of this that's
powerful and good, and you don't want to hold onto
something that's already lost. We have to be able to shift.
And it's just like driving a car. If you need
to get into another gear, you have to put the
cart into neutral in order to shift, and neutral always
(11:18):
feels super scary because you don't have any control. Interesting,
take now, why and how do planetary alignments like Saturn
Pluto affect people and things and events. So those planets
that are up there in the sky are part of
how this whole Solar system works, and we're part of
the Solar system. Those planets are all rotating and they
(11:42):
give off something called a torsion field, and they have vibrations,
they have energy, and they can actually measure the effects
the vibrational energy that comes off of planets here on Earth.
And there have been studies that have been done having
nothing to do with astrology, early about science, and we
are part of this cosmic soup, and these vibrations, these
(12:06):
frequencies come down here on this Earth and they're affecting us,
just like the Moon is a rock in space and
it regulates everybody of water on the Earth and we're
like ninety percent water. It influences us. It doesn't mean
that it makes us crazy. Even though the word lunatic
comes from the word lunar, which has to do with
(12:27):
the moon. You can talk to any doctor in a hospital,
or someone who's an EMT, or a police officer, anyone
in a school, they will always tell you that during
a full moon, things are more heightened. So astrologers, what
we're doing is we're just looking at these patterns. And
why astrology is so important is because it helps explain
(12:49):
what's happening here. We're like cosmic meteorologist. So when a
meteorologist tells you a hurricane is coming, they never know
until the very last minute if you're going to get
a direct hit or if you're gonna miss it by
ten miles. But all we can ever do is prepare.
And that's what I think we need to do right
(13:10):
now with what's going on, is we have to figure
out a way to stay centered and not freak out
because we can get very squished by this Saturn Pluto conjunction.
We can end up feeling like we're being victimized, and
that's never a good thing, No, not at all. But
why are there so many different things that astrologers come
(13:34):
up with? I mean, who would come up with, this
could be the beginning of World War three, this could
be the apocalypse, This could be this or that. Why
is it so different, Well, astrology is an interpretive art.
So I look at astrology as reading a piece of music.
So somebody could hand you a piece of music and
(13:56):
you're going to play it very differently than I would.
Some astrology are seeing this in a very drastic light,
and it may be that way, but we don't really
know exactly, because as I said, astrology is a language.
It's an interpretive art. To give you an example of
how astrology can see the pattern but might not know
(14:19):
the exact specifics is that I recently did a chart
for a woman who I told her that in a
year it looked like there was going to be an
addition to her family. I said, either you're going to
have a new baby, or maybe you're going to get
a new dog, or I don't know what I said,
but there's someone's coming into your house and into your life.
And she laughed. She said, I'm forty years old. I
don't think i'm going to have a baby in My
(14:40):
husband's allergic to dogs. I don't think that's either, And
so she sort of thought it was crazy. Well, a
year later she calls me and she said, I cannot
believe how accurate you were, Leslie. You gave me the
exact month and practically the week that I would be
having this addition to my family. And it turns out
her sister had done some DNA ancestry test and found
(15:00):
out that they had a half brother who ended up
calling them up and wanted to meet the whole family.
And the father wasn't very open to that idea because
it turns out he had this child before his current
wife and he didn't want her to know. But I
was one hundred percent correct. But I would never ever
say anything super specific because there's no way I could
(15:22):
possibly know. All I can do is read the energy
in the pattern. And that's where I think astrologers have
to be a little careful, because when you say things
like that, it gets everybody all hyped up. And I've
had people tell me that astrologers have said, oh, you're
never going to have a baby because Saturn is in
your house of children, And these are very dangerous things
(15:45):
to be voicing to people, especially I believe when you're
doing an individual reading with someone, but even collectively. I
don't think it really helped to say things like that,
because nobody really knows. Is it true that this particular
aspect that's going to hit exactly on the twelve is
very intense? And look, we've already had the situation in
(16:07):
the Middle East that's very scary. We've already had an
airplane go down. And but remember, George, this has been
building all year. Sure, it's just more of the same,
and we have to we have to be present and
take care of ourselves. And when we get into that
heightened state of thinking, oh my god, this is the
end of the universe and we're about to go into war,
(16:29):
I'm not sure that that's really helpful, because I believe
thoughts are things, and if we all are thinking that,
then I don't know that that's too helpful. I've always
felt Leslie that we're like in a pressure cooker of life,
and unless you can release it a little bit, it's
going to blow its top on agree, which is why
astrology and getting an astrology reading, if you have a
(16:52):
good astrologer, is very important because many many people are
tortured by not understanding their own personal cycles or the
external ones. And if someone can sit you down and
just kind of explain like you're not going crazy, you're
just waking up. This is just the universe trying to
(17:13):
get you to shift, that's all. But this is, and
including this big event that we're looking at in a
couple of days, it's a time when there has to
be a giant slush, there has to be a complete
news start. We have to have a total paradigm shift.
So we had the Roaring twenties in the nineteen twenties.
(17:33):
Now we're having the restoring twenty twenties where we are
needing to go across this threshold and it's a turning
point and we have to be okay with that and
not freak out and think it's a horrible negative thing.
