Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports. Let's go, Sticky birthday, birthday,
thank you, Let's go, let's go. What is this like,
the celebration of your birthday? Birthday, had a good birthday,
(00:21):
got up this morning, played some hoops against young bloods
and stuff like that. We're hitting threes all over. You
just literally gave your age away saying young bloods. Jesus,
I think you had to be born in the forties
to use that word. He's going to the disco after
the show. Happy birthday, are Andy, Thank you? Thank you know,
had a good day, celebrated it last night, did twenty
(00:44):
one shots to ginger Ale. So water you mean yeah?
So I'm ready to roll and then and then get
the best of both worlds. My wife leaves out of
town this afternoon and my kid goes back to college.
So I just sat around in my underwear and watched TV.
So go my vision, horrible vision. Well, happy birth birthday,
Thank you, Hey, just I gotta give a shout out
(01:08):
right off the top. Not only do you on your birthday,
but and Danny g and Bobbo you have this as well.
Shout out to our man Shady Seawan right off the top,
because he has made it possible, Arnie, where I know
you could not care less about WrestleMania, right, you couldn't
care less? Fair enough? Yeah, that's really ill. But I'm
(01:29):
watching seven spoiler alert like ten seconds here, I don't
want to get fired. I'm watching seventy six year old
Vince mcman. I know, I know, but I'll just leave
it at that. Vince McMahon, who doesn't look all that
great in the face, but my man still looks like
he can throw up some bars. My man has been
(01:49):
working out. But I'm watching Vinnie mack right now. So
no spoiler alert for your later viewing of this, Arnie.
But seventies six years old and still doing it? So
does that mean off Gavino and rich rock star athlete
or Vince McMahon. Which one do you want to be
or do you wish you could be? I'd probably go
with Vince McMahon, but that's me. Yeah, I'm going rock star.
Oh and by the way, h Holgan's just enter to
(02:11):
the ring. Okay, listen again, holk Ster is not going
to be showing up in Restlemania. I didn't want to
ruin it for you. Is your feet ahead of mind? Well?
As we welcome you on on this busy, busy Sunday
night here on Fox Sports Radio. One thing that's wild
and and I haven't heard many people talk about it,
(02:31):
and listen, We've got a championship game to preview, Kansas
versus North Carolina. I went digging on this last night.
The two teams last met in the title game, AREN'TI
in nineteen fifty seven? Right? Right? But they had met
three previous times in the final four. No, yeah, the semifinals,
(02:54):
you're out. I'm sorry, two thousand and eight. So in
a tournament that seem to be loaded with upsets, um,
here we had with as blue blood of a blue
blood of a final four as you can have. And
then lo and behold, we end up with North Carolina
in Kansas, not only the Roy Williams title game, but
two blue bloods. And I gotta be honest, we got
(03:15):
Aaron coming up next hour aeron tourists to talk about it.
I'm pretty fired up about tomorrow night. We should have
we should be making more of It's the number one
seed against the number eight seed, But um, we don't
consider North Carolina like a true number eight seed, like
a true other dog. The way at four point other
dog in this game too, So nobody's really making a
big deal that there are number eight seed getting into
the finals. The sayer one of that had something to that,
(03:38):
let's go, or was I dreaming when Danny yelled in
might know I said in your air that Aaron Torres
is coming up next segment? Next second? Did I not
say that? Oh? Next hour? I apologize, I'm getting ahead
of myself. I either heard or next second, and I
think what it was is, yeah, I'm sorry, so tours
(04:00):
next segment. But this sager overall good tournament, bad tournament?
Yeah yeah great, and a lot of overtime games early,
yeah great, and remember we didn't have one very recently.
Yeah that's right. So that got me thinking as we
get ready for tomorrow night, Aaron Torres, next segment, Artie,
what has been the signature moment so far in your had?
(04:22):
Peter's obviously would against Kentucky. That got I mean, that
got everybody's attention, like, oh, welcome to the n C
double a is look what we just saw. But then
we get up last year with a fifteen beating it too.
I'm not trying to hate on it or anything, but
just just pick trying to pick holes in it. Right,
we got o R you that went to the Sweet
sixteen last year, it's a fifteen beating it two. So,
(04:45):
I mean, I don't know this one different fact because
we're like, you know St. Peter's, Oh my goodness, and
they did it against Kentucky when you talk about blue bloods,
I don't know. I thought that was the signature moment.
I think that kind of started things off. And um,
you know, I don't know, we didn't have very many
buzzer beating I'm trying to wreck my brain think of maybe,
like you know, Arizona TCU was a great game. They're
(05:06):
maybe a buzzer beater around there, but I don't think
we had too many. Overall, though, it's been a fun tournament.
I've enjoyed. It's been good. I have to. I was thinking,
you know, last year we had the Jalen Suggs shot
against u C l A. Uh. Then in the title
game you had Baylor runaway with it. You know, twenty
obviously we didn't have a tournament. Twenty nineteen we had
a great national title game. What eighteen that was Loyola
(05:28):
Sweet sixteen run uh and Final four one am I
saying sweet sixteen final four run and sister Gean that
you had the sixteen over the one that year seventeen
was kind of the Cinderella final four is Frank Martin.
But by the way got fired at South Carolina made around.
I don't know, I kind of I bring it up
because I thought last night became the signature moment in
(05:49):
this tournament. I think last night the way and not
even the coach k which which we can talk about
until we're blue in the face, get it um, but
not only the coach case stuff, but Arnie, I thought,
with what North Carolina and Duke gave us, we got
high quality shot making. Uh, kind of almost two or
three different games in one. I thought it was great.
(06:10):
I thought last night, I agree with you St. Peter's
is something we'll talk about for a while. But I
can't help but wonder, even even after tomorrow night and
the nets are cut down and the trophies raised, I
came up and wonder, Arnie, are we're gonna have a
situation where we look back at that Duke North Carolina
game and that's kind of lasting image from this n
c A tournament. I was certainly gonna be the lasting
(06:31):
image of Coach K. And don't get me wrong, because
I gotta tell something. I enjoyed the game thoroughly. I
you know, purposely didn't go out. I said, I'm not
going out Freddy dinner celebration. I just want to watch
the game. I want to be left alone. I I
and I enjoyed it. It was great. The back and forth,
the runs um you know, checking out Coach K, the intensity,
(06:52):
the big shots made, the run by North Carolina, they're enjured,
it all and at the end of the game, I'm like, wow,
that was that was a really good game. But when
I get on Twitter, one of the best five games
I ever, I'm like, no, no, no, and stop that.
You know, Oh my god, this one of the best
games of the history the n double am am I
missing something here? Was I minimizing this? I again, I
(07:15):
enjoyed it thoroughly. I just didn't get any buzzer beater
over time, last second shot, you know it. It came
down to the wire there, but nothing like you know,
some of the great endings we've seen. I I don't know,
it was the best five games ever. I don't know
if I can agree with that. I will say, it's
funny you act like that. Twitter doesn't overreact to anything exactly.
(07:37):
I mean, I I was sitting here last night and
I was watching North Carolina and Duke, and I was
thinking to myself, I'm really enjoying this game, right, and again,
I got a soft spot in my heart for Brady
Manic because he was an Okloma kid before he transferred.
And honestly, I'm blown away with what he's been able
to do and so pumped for him. But I'm I'm
sitting I'm taking it in. I'm watching the shot making
(07:59):
for Duke, and I'm imagining Boncaro in an Oklahoma City
Thunder uniform, and I'm thinking, well, can you imagine what's
going through Coach Kay's head? And I'm really enjoying it.
I'm like, this is great, this is And I realized
what I hadn't done. I hadn't gone on Twitter. I
left my phone in a completely other area and just
sat and enjoyed it. And then I made the mistake
in the final two minutes of opening Twitter and it
(08:22):
just it ruined it all for me. Ruined it part
ruined it Twitter. I just you know, back in the day,
it used to be Twitter was. It was like having
a watch party in your house, but nobody's drinking all
your beer, eating all your food, and dirtying up. It
was great right now anymore, you hit it on the head.
I mean you really did. And I don't know if
you meant to or not, but nothing can just be
(08:44):
that's pretty good. I enjoyed that. Everything is either that's
the absolute greatest thing I've ever seen in my life
and nothing will ever top it, or conversely, oh yeah,
really not all that much. I didn't really take anything.
It was a good game. It was there's nothing wrong
with having a really good game. It was. It was
fun to watch intensity back and forth. Everything you'd wanted
(09:06):
a semifinal game for a chance to go to the championship.
I just did evidence one of my all time five
top five games in NC double A history. I didn't
even come. I don't even know it's gonna make top ted.
I need some buzzer beaters, I need some overtime, I
need some maybe an upset, I need, I need something
I need, I need, you know, a little bit more Ian.
It came down a little bit to the end there,
(09:27):
but um, it was Look, it was a good game.
I think we overdramatized it because of Coach K and
and his last game and all that, and I think
everybody I wanted Coach k to win. I wanted to,
you know, the dream to continue the duke, to win
the whole thing. Yeah I did. Oh wow, did you
have him in your bracket or something? I mean, it
just seems unlikely to have like this soft spotting. I know,
(09:48):
I know, maybe it's me getting up there now that
I'm over thirty exactly what you know. I wanted him
to win. I wanted to see him go out of winner. Um.
So maybe people were all hyped up about that and
that was one of the reasons. Is it possible? Is
it possible that that could be the like, I mean,
(10:10):
it's the last game he's ever coached. I'm trying to
think of the best way to put it. I don't
want to say lasting image or anything of that nature,
because nothing really usually ends well in sports. Are you
sure about that too? By the way, you sure about
that about him not him being done or being the
lasting image of it? That's the last game, however, coach oh,
(10:31):
are you? I mean, where would he go? We wouldn't
he pull like a Calhoun and go to maybe a
lesser school or something like that, or No. I thought
you were trying to theorize and maybe Coach k could
could pop out for a year or two and then
pop back in somewhere I don't know, relatively higher major
than just say high school or I don't know if
(10:52):
high own or something like. No, did he started with
Army or something like that. I don't know, what do
he take like a small school or Calhoun did that?
I don't know. I just just throwing it out there.
You never say never, would never say never. But Mike
Tomlin did drop that earlier this year. He said where
he said never say never, but never, And I kind
of feel that when it comes to Mike Tachevsky. But
(11:13):
I guess the point I'm trying to make because I
saw a lot of people and we're gonna get Aaron
On to talk about it here in the next segment,
But I've seen a lot of people that, oh, this
is the lasting impression North Carolina has ruined the Coach
K era. And it's funny because I usually pushed back
against that. I'm like, no, come on, man, all the titles,
you know, think about the thirty point lost to UNLV,
(11:37):
only to come back that next season and win the
national championship. I mean, we're we're talking about a man
who's won gold, who's already in the Hall of Fame,
the College Basketball Hall of Fame, five time in c
A tournament champion. But then I stopped, and I'm like, damn,
what a way to go to get smoked in your
home finale as a head coach by your our rival,
(12:01):
and then in the final game, in the final four,
you'll get beat by him again again. Like I said,
I'm not trying to point a finger, not trying to
say it's it's ruined or tarnish, because that's not the case.
But that's gonna hurt. That's gonna sting for quite a while.
Wh Why does that sting for quite a while? Because
if going out a winner meant anything, Tom Brady would
(12:24):
have walked away when he won a Super Bowl two
years ago, right, So, I mean, is it really that
important that Jeff to go out on top winning a
Super Bowl, winning a championship? But let me count, Let
me count this right now, just just real quick, because
I'm not trying to beat down the whole era. I
just think it's gonna be the lasting image. If Tom
Brady would have lost in the Super Bowl to the
(12:45):
Patriots whenever he was with Tampa, would that have affected
kind of the way you viewed it? If New England
and Matt I'm just again because you bring well Brady
could have retired and no one would have said anything
if he left, not going to the Super Bowl. Artie,
he got beat by their art rival. I mean, you're
you're you're raised as a Duke basketball fan, al you
(13:06):
nerds to hate North Carolina. Conversely, North Carolina versus Duke
and the most storied coach in the history of college
basketball and hands down in the history of duke basketball
got beat by his art rival twice in the biggest
situation after smoking him earlier this year. You know, I, I
I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I I
(13:28):
got a feel in the uh the game where they
had all the you know, all the famous players, they're
hurt a little bit more than this one, you know
what I mean? Okay, alright, fair enough not I look,
I that is because you always want to win a championship,
But that one, I've been just stung just as much
as this one. Probably all right when we come back,
(13:48):
we'll dive into the memorable moment with Aaron Torres next
and give you an in depth preview of Kansas and
North Carolina at eight seat playing for the national championship.

stinking genius, Thank you, thank you. Did you get anything cool?
(15:14):
Oh yeah, well you still get gifts at your age.
I still the only thing I really want is is exactly.
I just told my wife what to get me, so
she got me to Arizona T shirts in an Arizona
sweatshirts so nice. They're on sale after we got eliminated.
They were the final four shirts. I'm sorry, championship T shirts.
(15:34):
They are really on sale. That okay, Aaron, Aaron Tores
coming up here in just a bit. They Arnie was
trying to make sure that he beat the the quick
exit from the from the States for those T shirts.
You know what, you know what, I gotta be honest
with you. I was thinking about this today. It's in
Plank on Fox Sports Radio. Aeron tours coming up here
in just a bit. I think one of my favorite
(15:56):
moments in this show was watching that game with you,
not even kidding. I think looking back that game that
Sunday night TCU Arizona and the way it ended, that's
like a top five moment in the history of the show, right.
The heartbreak, the gut the reassurance, everything right, it was
(16:16):
I didn't think we were gonna pull it out. What
what At one point during the show you said that
day uh TCU was like when you look at something
like that, Well, joining us right now to help get
more perspective on the n c a A tournament. You
hear him Saturday nights Share on Fox Sports Radio. You
follow him on Twitter. It's Aaron Torres. Who is in
the house. Aaron, I'm watching the South Carolina celebration right
(16:37):
now on the women's side of the brackets. So congrats
to that Crudon Staley. Incredible job this year. Maybe one
of the greatest women's basketball teams of all time. But
I think we've seen a great n c a A tournament. Aaron.
I know it's you know the SAKA brought it up earlier,
where two years removed from this not happening. I don't care.
I loved every minute of this. Well, first of all,
(16:58):
let's not bury the lead here. You know, coach k
is out, but Arnie Spanning here has never been more alive.
Happy birthday are here? How I guess I'll take that,
Thank you very much. Yeah, what's going on? Man? You
doing Okay, now what are you doing? Are they still
allow need to eat cake and sweets or did that
get cut out of your diet by the doctors. What's
going on? No, No, I'm still out the cake and
(17:19):
the sweets, but lots of gingeriles, so I do appreciate
that though, thank you very much. I'm making him blush.
I'm making him blush. So to answer your question, playing
this tournament has been awesome, and I think the Sager's
dead spot on is that, you know, I think when
I look at this tournament, I think it's a couple
of things. First of all, n c A tournament was
(17:41):
the only major sporting event canceled. I think that's always
important to note. You know, this stuff happened the day
or two before the tournament was supposed to start, uh,
and we found a way to play an NBA season
in a bubble, Major League Baseball without fans, college basketball
got canceled, and then in one um it was really
essentially the last sporting event that was played under kind
(18:02):
of old COVID protocols. I mean, we're playing the final four,
you know, in front of capacity in Indianapolis, and then
a month later we have full houses for for NBA
games and by the way, in NBA playoff games, I
should say, and by the way, I understand why the
n c A tournament was planned in November December. It's
what happened. So I am so on board with you guys.
(18:23):
I totally agree. Um. You know, I think that the
games have been great. I think the competition has been great.
I'm glad with the four teams that we ended up
with in New Orleans. I was down there earlier this week.
The fan turnout was incredible. The players are happy, and listen,
we we you know, we love college sports. It's different
than the pros. But most of these guys and girls
are not going to get a chance to play at
(18:45):
the NBA level to have high level, successful, you know,
super memorable professional careers. This is incredible for them too.
So I'm totally on board with you, Plank. I'm happy
for the men. I wish my Huskies could have pulled
it out tonight, but the right team one on the
women's side. But I think over all, the product the
last three or four weeks has been awesome. You know,
as you mentioned, Arin, you were down in New Orleans. Um,
(19:05):
I was it, I mean, was it. I mean the
fans in full effect, whether big crowds. I got assuming
with Carolina fans and Duke fans just overtook everything. Didn't
have that feeling down there is it's still kind of
try to get back on track and stuff like that. No,
it was. It was awesome. Marnie, um you know, and
and um you know. I don't know who had the
(19:28):
most fans. It felt like there was a lot of
really all four schools were really well represented. Uh you know,
Friday night on Bourbon Street, I was responsible to let
the record show, by the way, I was hosting the
Doug got leave shown till five Central time, went down
to Bourbon Street, got some dinner and I wasn't home
too late. But when I was out, I mean it
was packed. I mean it was wall to wall people.
(19:48):
I think everybody was excited to be out. I think
everybody was excited to just again it's cliche, and we've
talked about it even in this segment, but just get
to a sense of normalcy. And then all by the way,
I think all four fan bases were happy to be
there for obvious reasons, right, you know, Duke obviously with
a chance to to send up Coach k out in
style Carolina. This run was just so unexpected. Kansas the
(20:11):
number one seed, thinking that they have a chance to
to win a title, and then of course Villanova, um,
you know, really establishing themselves over the last three four
weeks and really five six years, is one of the
best programs, if not the best program in college basketball.
So Arnie, it was awesome. Everything was totally packed. You know,
I don't know if it was the Southern hospitality, I
don't know what it was, but everybody just seemed in
(20:32):
great spirits. I left before the games yesterday, so I
was Unfortunately, it was one of the few times that
I regret not being in the arena, but you know,
I had well, you know, I had to get home
to do my radio show, so it was what it was.
But the city was awesome. The you know, I think
the folks that lived there were happy to have people
back in town. I just felt normal, just felt really, really,
(20:53):
really good, and it shows kind of how far we've come, Aaron.
I know, we want to talk about coach kane Is
last game, but real quick that the Kansas domination of
Illanova is kind of an afterthought. But David McCormick having
one of his biggest moments uh in one of his
final moments in the Kansas Jayhawk uniform. And listen, I've
been near close to the Big Twelve all season long
as the conference that cover the most BOGI has been
(21:16):
this all season long. And then suddenly you get even
though it wasn't much on on Saturday night, but you
get something from Remy Martin late in the season like
Kansas did, and this team might be primed for Bill
self's second title come Monday night. They really did a
great job against Nova well and I think playing and
Arnie too. I think this, like this might be a
metaphor for for where college basketball is going with the
(21:37):
transfer portal stuff. Is you have two teams that, um,
you know they they the two team. I mean, you know,
Coach k even said it during the week, like the
North Carolina team that they were facing last night was
nothing like the North Carolina team that even beat them
at Cameron Indoor a month ago. Um, And I don't
think Duke was the same, and I don't think Kansas
(21:57):
is the same. I mean, look at Kansas over the
course of the tournament, where you have a situation where
round two, you're playing a Creton team that that has
two starters out with injury. You barely hold on to
win that game. To your point, playing Remy Martin, who
had basically been a non factor all season long, has
an incredible game against Creighton, basically is the only guy
that carries you in the first half. You survived the
(22:20):
second and third round, and then all of a sudden,
you're basically unbeatable. I mean, you know, I don't watch
every minute of every Kansas basketball game, but I think
if you ask most Kansas fans, I think you could
argue the best three halves of basketball they've played all
year have been the most recent three ones. And so yeah, yeah,
and you add that in with with Carolina figuring things out.
(22:40):
I mean, they were a preseason top twenty team. We
know about them bottoming out. A lot of people were
critical of Hubert Davis in this program, myself included by
the way Hubert Davis was critical as well. He said
it his postgame or his pre his pre uh Final
four media availability this week, Like you guys were critical
of us, and we deserved every single thing that you said,
(23:01):
but they stayed the course, they figured it out. I
give him credit for figuring out a way to connect
with these guys that you know, he was obviously part
of the recruitment, but they came to North Carolina to
play for somebody else. I just think this is the
new world of college basketball. We're transfer portal roster flipping over.
It's gonna take much, much, much later into the season
for teams to really figure out who they are. But
(23:21):
I don't think you know, these two teams are playing
great basketball, and I don't think you can argue that
either team deserves to be here. All right, you tell
me how you see it plays out tomorrow. And by
the way, should we make more of North Carolina being
like an eight seed underdog? You know? Um, but don't
really go You're not really like a true eight seed,
only a four point underdog. But I mean, if it
(23:42):
was anybody else's that number eighth seed that wasn't such
a blue blood, we'd be making a big stink about that,
wouldn't we. Or No, No, I mean it goes it
goes back to what I said, is that. I mean, listen,
you know, Caleb Love was a McDonald's All American, Armando
Baycot was McDonald's All American Brady Manic Chris Plank knows
well was a four year contributor on multiple n c
(24:03):
A tournament teams. So you know, they probably, based on
all the metrics, based on the A C C being down,
deserved to be an eight seed. But that doesn't mean
that they had the talent of an eight seed. It
doesn't mean that at their best they were an eight seed.
But they probably deserved to be an eight seed. But yeah,
they're not definitely not a traditional eight seed. Um in
terms of tomorrow's game, you know what, I what I
(24:23):
would just say, I think the biggest thing from my
perspective is the emotional, you know, element of it from
Carolina's perspective. You know, I was talking today, I was
filling in with Dan Buyer and we talked a lot
about you know, I'm getting some big Baylor versus Gonzaga
vibes from last year where Baylor kind of cruises through
this semifinal, they beat Houston for people who forget, and
(24:44):
then we have an all time classic. Uh. Later that night,
Arnie Spanier ruined the ending for me because his TV
was about four seconds ahead of mine and he's screaming
about the jail and sub shop before I saw it.
So you know, Gonzaga has this emotional win late nine
next day, everybody wants to ask in Zag about this
incredible win, and they just weren't ready to play on Monday.
(25:05):
And so that's not an excuse, by the way. It's
not say Baylor was not deserving, like Baylor was by
far the best team. I'm just saying there were other
factors as well, And to me, I think that's the
biggest thing with Carolina. You go through this tournament, emotional
wild win against Baylor, emotional win against u c l
A where they easily could have lost that game, emotional
win literally against St. Peter's where Hubert Davis is crying
(25:29):
talking about how happy he is for his team, and
then obviously an emotional win last night. Can they put
all of that aside for one more game against what
is obviously gonna be the best team that they've played
so far in this tournament. I'm pumped for it. A
Torres enjoy, buddy, We always appreciate your team. Have a
great Monday night. No prom Thank you guys, Happy birthday, ARENI,
(25:51):
thank you, my friend, thank you good stuff. Sorry it's
you trigger finger my too much. Celebration of your birthday.
I'm done with it. No, and Aaron was all over
by the way, I listened to just about a Hall
of Gotlieb show whenever he was sitting in I think
that was on Friday. It was great and great analysis
in perspective leading up to a wild weekend in the
n c A Tournament National Championship game coming up on
(26:14):
Monday night. Got some sound from coach k after last night,
trying to figure out where his head is. But right
now we are joined by the Man in the middle
and Steve Sager with what's trending? What's going on? Steve, Hello, gentlemen,
and a happy seventieth birthday, Arenie. We're gonna have the
national Championship game for men's hoops tomorrow night, and you know,
for Carolina to win the title, that means they will
(26:36):
have to beat in the same tournament, one seed Baylor,
one seed Kansas, U C, l A, and Duke almost
all in a row. And this is a North Carolina
team that with a first year head coach, was at
one point twelve and six and just four and three
in conference play, and the three losses were to Notre
Dame Miami and Wake Forest, so yeah, they kind of rebounded,
(26:57):
and good news for Carolina that Armando Aycott says he
will play tomorrow night in the championship against Kansas despite
a spraned ankle from last night. Baycott is the tar
Heels top score and rebounder. He had twenty one rebounds
last night against Duke and twenty two rebounds the game
before against St. Peter's. Butler has a new men's basketball coach,
Sad Moda x of Ohio State. He has a former
(27:19):
Butler player and coach, Auburn seven footer Walker Kessler, declared
for the NBA Draft. He was the National Defensive Player
of the Year well and women's hoops number one. South
Carolina is the champion. In fact, they had played early
season against Connecticut, the team they met tonight in November
in the Bahamas. South Carolina beat him seventy three fifty seven,
(27:41):
so that was a sixteen point win, and tonight was
a fifteen point win sixty nine. According to stat sinc.
Nobody had done that to Yukon, not only beating him twice,
but by double digits twice since Gino Orima's very first
season as a coach. Lenova did so mid eighties. Apparently
this is a Connecticut program that was looking for its
twelfth national championship. The Huskies had never lost in an
(28:04):
n c A title game eleven and oh until this evening.
They were down thirteen to two quickly and lost, as
I say, sixty four forty nine to the NBA. The
late games in l A and the Clippers are still
up big about five minutes to go one eight six
over the Pelicans. Earlier, same building, the Lakers lost their
six in a row. Denver beat him. They are playing
(28:28):
out the string this final week. Now you don't claim them.
I think every since he said, my Lakers, they've been doomed. Yeah,
well that's the case of pretty much any team that
applies to the NBA regular season ends a week from tonight.
Anthony Davis did have twenty eight points despite the bad foot,
but san Antonio went again tonight one two because I
got to play Portland again. Blazers have lost seven in
a row. So here's how it stands. The Spurs are
(28:50):
two games up on the Lakers for the final play
and spot, and san Antonio owns the tiebreaker and the
Lakers next two games are at Phoenix and Golden State
this week, so yeah, it's it's done. The Lakers record
is thirty one and forty seven. Let's be realistic. Philadelphia
one at Cleveland one twelve, one oh eight tonight. It's
(29:11):
just about to that. That's honestly, it is. Bringback Cedric Saballos.
Joel Embiad had forty four points in the Philly road win.
Road wins for Dallas and Detroit's for New York and Miami,
the first place team in the East. The Heat won
at Toronto one one on nine, ending the Raptors five
game winning streak. So the Miami Heat two games over Boston,
two and a half up on Philly, two and a
(29:33):
half up on Milwaukee. It's that tight with this one
week left in the NBA regular season. In the NHL,
among the nine games, Minnesota five one winner at Washington,
Minnesota's one nine of ten. Also in the NHL, overtime
win for Vegas at Vancouver, overtime win for Arizona at Chicago,
and a shootout win for the Flyers at the Rangers.
(29:54):
The NHL regular season goes farther till Friday, April twenty nine.
Denny Hamlin took the NASCAR race at Richmond. Kevin Harvick
finished second. Hamblin grew up in Virginia. This is his
fourth career victory at Richmond and the forty seventh win
of his career. Back to you, Thanks, Steve. It'sarni and
Plank on Fox Sports Radio, Bobo running the show, Danny
(30:14):
g hooking us up with great guests like Aaron Torres
and of course Steve the Sager on updates in a
great crew behind the scene culling audio force that will
share as the show rolls on. I think it just
hit me. Yeah, I think the Sager's update it finally registered.
The Lakers aren't going to the playoffs. I don't know
(30:35):
why it's taken me so long. Maybe I was in
that group that thought, wait, Anthony Pelids, they were done.
So you know that, I mean not, no, I didn't
know that because again, that was Anthony Davis his first
game back. So take some a game to get back
in rhythm, and all of a sudden, Lebron's missing a
game tonight, so they were I canna tell you it
was bothering me. Anthony Davis made a shot um that
(30:58):
put him down by seven or something like that. With
two three minutes of the game, had a big smile
on his face, was with a tough shot, laughing. I'm like,
what's so funny, You're about to be eliminated from the playoffs?
Staney Johnson hit a three pointers? Like yeah, yeah, three pointer?
You going down, Lebron, I mean, what, well, what's so
(31:18):
funny out there? Weren't the sense of urgency or at
any of that like the seasons on the line. It's again,
that is a guy that's only playing like his seventh
quarter since he's come back from an injury. So I
mean the way, thank goodness. Um, you know, all the
blame goes on Westbrook. He was horrible today. Huh uh, well, listen, fantastic.
(31:39):
I'm not here to point fingers and or or build
up Russell Westbrook after one good performance. Arnie Gee, that's
what you're supposed to be doing night in the night
out Russ period. Oh. I don't want to get in trouble,
but that's what you're paid to do. Today is why
you're one of the greats, Why you were an m
v P. Yeah, why you can't do that regularly, I'll
(32:00):
never know why Wait until it does. Wait a minute,
it just clicked. Russell Westbrook is at his best when
it doesn't matter. Why you go look at his NB
look at his MVP season. It was in a season
when it didn't matter. Thunder weren't going anywhere, but Russia was. Yeah,
eleven and fifteen. Today you're and you're trying to build
him up. Yeah, I don't point a finger at him. Well,
(32:21):
I'm sorry. I fall into that category, and I love
Russ But already when I see something like today, I'm like,
where the hell is that? Is this a good trade
Russell for for Julius Randall? I think the Lakers did
that once, right, Isn't that like I don't know, Bubba,
wouldn't that be like going back to an X that
you know you didn't really get along with, but like
(32:44):
you're back right, didn't go well with Julius Randall? Here,
you bring him back? I don't think it'll work now, No, Well,
they got the Big two and it's got to work
better than Westbrook dead, didn't it? And he would wouldn't
back here? Do you know what I think? I think
you might have just talked me into that one. Yet.
Take Russell Westbrook in New York. Give us Julius ran up,
(33:04):
but I don't even if that's a trade that that
can work on. I'll say this, I don't know what
it was. Maybe it was the Sager's update, maybe it's
been part denial, but I think that was one of
those moments where it really clicked. Look at the schedule
that's left for the Lakers. Look at how many games
now that they're out, they're not even they're not getting
to play in. And now where does that leave this
(33:24):
franchise in this off season? What do you what do
you go? I mock the debate shows that spend so
much time talking about the Lakers. I really do. I
think it's ridiculous. But then when he gets down to it,
and yes, there's some exciting storylines in the playoffs, but Arnie,
there's not gonna be a juicier storyline than what the
hell is Lebron and the Lakers? What are they gonna
do this off season? You know people were talking about
(33:45):
did they get rid of Anthony Davis? I think that's
a joke. Let me tell you something in case people
didn't understand that, you said, finally realized that finally hitch up,
that the Lakers are going to the playoffs. I don't
know if it's hitch up, but Lebron's never going back
to the NBA championship. Okay, forget about winning it. He's
never going back to a championship. Anthony Davis never going
back to a championship. The Lakers are going back to
(34:08):
a championship in a long, long We may we may
be dead and buried before the Lakers get back to
a new championship. So move on for that. The Lakers
are done so for a long time. But here's what's funny.
Here's what's funny about it is you can say that
and one move can suddenly put them in a position
where there is feared as anyone in the league like
(34:29):
who But I'm just saying one move. It would take
one move if it's moving off from Russ and bringing
in someone like can you imagine that, like Donovan Mitchell
or something like that. It takes one move. That's and
you're because you're acting like, oh, this franchise is doomed
by no, everyone still wants to play for the Lakers.
It's the craziest place. There's sixteen games under when this
(34:55):
season is over and heading in the next year. One
move and suddenly they're right back there. It's it's the
craziness of how interesting I think the off season is
ahead for the Lakers. They're not making the playoffs. It
just hit me and I think I need some time
to think about it. So when we come back, let's
hit Twitter. We've got tons of NFL to get to,
(35:16):
and a full preview of Monday's National Championship matchup between
Kansas and North Carolina with Arnie and Plank right here
on Fox Sports Radio. It's Arni in Plank on Fox
Sports Radio. Your tweets coming up here in just a
bit um Phoenix, Golden State in the next two games
(35:37):
for the Lakers Tuesday night in Phoenix, Thursday in San
Francisco against Golden State, then the home finale on April
eight against Oklahoma City, who is in full on tank mode.
They shut down st a for the season. Uh and
then Sunday, a week from today, they wrap it up
in Denver. Meanwhile, Winkly, here's the four for the Spurs
at Denver at Minnesota, home for Golden State at Dallas.
(36:03):
They're not going to the playoffs. Lakers got they gotta
go ahead and make up three games on them. Is
that it's essentially what it is. Lakers have lost six
in a row, seven of their last eight. They're only
winning this stretch was a win over Cleveland, and they
are truly leaking heading down the stretch. So as you
might imagine, that's led to some of your tweets at
Stinking Genius One. That's aunt I'm at playing show. Everybody
(36:25):
should be following us at Fox Sports Radio Nature boy rights,
My Lakers have as much of a chance of a
play in as Whoopie Goldberg of being funny? Why is
whoopee catching whoopee um? Bill Fletcher's simple question, Lebron in
our lebron out lebron out right? But how about this?
(36:49):
Does it lead to out completely in l a in
some way, shape or form. What do you think he's
going to lead? Though? He's not going anywhere? Where is
he gonna go? He gat can't walk away from this mess.
That's like garbage all over the ford, not even picking
it up before you move out. Where the hell's he
going to go? Get out of here? Where's he gonna go? Listen,
(37:09):
I'm gonna just tell you this right now, because you
know how you are. If somehow magically he ended up
with the Knicks, you would be sitting here saying, no,
one's gonna stop the Knicks. Nobody they Who are you
telling me? So you're telling me now that someone's gonna
stop Lebron. You're telling me that you've really been a
long time. I gotta get excited about something thought. So
(37:30):
then yeah, so look at your own hypocrisy. You want
to bury him as done. But the moment he ended
up on your team, you'd be like, oh my gosh,
we're winning a title, so that's still there. No, I
wouldn't say we're winning a title, but a little bit
more absolutely would say you were winning a time. You're
saying you're winning a time. Yeah, they brings that second
(37:51):
round pick with him, he'd be great. But listen, and
I love Brownie Junior's game, but everybody called that a
little bit um. The sequel is not always a good
as as good as the original, not as good. But
I'll tell you what, Arnie, it's just it's shocking to
me to see where this team is shocking. I mean, Floord,
did I think Russell Westbrook would be as good for
(38:11):
this team as maybe Buddy Heal would have been. No,
but I didn't realize this would be where we are,
and I know they that. What have they even played
together twenty games yet this season, the Big Three? But
it's not as if they're like fifteen and three in
the previous games that they played together. What's more shocking
where the Lakers are or where the Brooklyn Nets are?
(38:32):
Probably the Lakers, I think, because Brooklyn's had the mess
with James Harden and then the guy that getting the trade,
Ben Simmons is I mean, m I a who knows
what's going on there? So I have I would say
the Lakers over Brooklyn? Would you? I don't know. It's
pretty damn close to win a championship the Big Three? Um, God, no,
(38:54):
that was just the Laker fans. I mean, you didn't
really think they were gonna win a championship, did you? Yes,
you even said it on a show many times. At
some point this year, they became my Lakers, and they're
gonna win a title. Now my Lakers, because there was
no more my New York Knicks was how bad they
were taking. This is what I deal with every single
(39:14):
Sunday night. This thing flips and it's like a fish
that you catch and then as soon as you have
that fish, it flops out of the boat and you
don't know what to do with it. You change your
mind more than anyone on the planet. But my team
has stakes so bad. I haven't had a close to
winter in a long time. That eliminated the Sweet Sixteenth.
But yeah, look at the Lakers right now. Lebron is
(39:35):
gonna come back. He has to fix what he's got
going right now because there's no other way around it.
It's you know, it could be fixable. They get one piece.
I don't know what they're gonna do with Westbrook though,
but that's that's gonna be a problem. There's there's always
gonna be takers for for Westbrook. And the thing that's
funny is everyone just expects the Lakers to get well,
let me just take the Lakers out of this. Expect
(39:58):
everyone's favorite team to at the player they want without
having to give up anything. So I could see the
Lakers ending up with a rather one sided deal to
move on from Westbrook. But I mean, Arnie, I think
it's gonna be fascinating to see what they do to
find that next piece now that we know they're not
going to the playoffs. And then one more quick one
here before we hit the top of the hour. Johnny
(40:19):
writes on the n c A tournament. So let me
interpret what Arnie is saying about the tournament. It was
like going to Vegas having a Vegas buffet, and all
it had was an assortment of nuts and fruits better
than nuts and fruit style. There was a little bit
of salad. There was, you know, a little bit of food.
You have any steak, You just didn't have any steak
(40:39):
or me like, all right, more of your tweets coming up. Uh,
Todd Ferman live from Vegas coming up right after the
top of the hour, and listen, I've got some NFL
stuff to get into with Arnie Spaniard. It's a busy
Sunday night with Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio. Oh,
(41:01):
let's go, Happy birthday our too, big boy, you're ready. Wow,
I'm excited for you. Did you? Is there a must
have meal on your birthday? Spaghetti? Spaghetti, spaghetti and meat sauce.
That's what that's my Musco Thanksgiving meal if I don't
go out, So my wife made me spaghetti um for
(41:22):
the whole week, so it's in the fridge. Look at you.
You're such a you're such a very simple purchase there
is that, you know, Give me, Give me a good
give me a good baseball game, some spaghetti, and I'm
happy by the way. I miss baseball and I've gotta
bummed out. I miss baseball. What's going on? Man? You
miss it? It starts Thursday? I know I miss it,
though I miss it. You're you're are you gonna pick
(41:45):
some baseball games? Then whenever the picks come around, maybe
maybe get a few in there. Well, I will say
in the show sheet that you sin out. I'm kind
of surprised that baseball wasn't higher on your depth chart.
I mean, you almost had a below soccer conversations. So
when you say you miss baseball, I mean you you're
(42:05):
still getting a full season. Well, no, I missed baseball.
This week was I'm board, so I didn't really have
much to do. You were bored with the n c
A turn. Oh, I see your meandering. You've been spoiled
these last few weeks. Maybe Thursday, Friday day about during
the day to nothink was really going on? You're you
know at the I was so bored. I watched the
(42:26):
Laker Denver game for crying out loud, so um I
needed something. I'm like, Oh, would be a great time
for a nice baseball game, sitting relaxed. Someone someone on
Twitter put out there was four thousands of Dodger um
at a high game tonight. Is that crazy or what? Yeah?
I think people are hungry for baseball in It's kind
of part to say in baseball cities, but l A
(42:48):
being in in the Anaheim area being big baseball. I mean,
I'm watching highlights of the Red Sox and the Braves,
and I don't know if that are the Dodgers and
Angels playing during the regular season. Maybe they aren't. Um,
I don't have the schedule right in front of but
maybe that's an opportunity to get out and see him
play each other. I just I saw great crowds in
all the spring training games I was watching, So I'm
not trying to get too carried away with the preseason
(43:11):
as an indicator and obviously much smaller stadiums, but maybe
the potential for a big year for baseball in the attendance,
in the viewership, in the in the talk of passion,
I mean maybe attendance, there's no doubt about that. I mean,
people are gonna want to get back out, enjoy the summer,
go to a baseball game. I think attendance is going
(43:31):
to be really healthy for major League baseball. I hope
you're right. Well we'll get some more baseball coming up
here in just a bit, because Arnie really misses baseball,
and I think that's you know, don't make too much.
It's it's funny though you talk about you missed it.
That's like I missed. But that's like saying I missed
having a girlfriend around Valentine's. You know already say I
(43:52):
I missed my kids on Father's Days. Make right, whenever
they're they're off to college or whatever it might be.
I just I feel like, you know, you talk baseball
on the show most Sunday nights if you want, but
it's not usually near the top of the not at all.
All right, I just want to be clear. All right,
I got some football to get to coming in the
games in the season. I mean, how can how could
(44:14):
you possibly fit it all in? That's the big question here.
Everyone on Twitter, though, wants to talk about the Lakers.
So let me hit a couple of quick ones here
at Stinking Genius wanted playing show Todd for him, and
it's coming up in our next segment. It's Arnie and
playing on Fox Sports Radio, Bobo running the show, Danny
g producing things up, and of course Steve to Segre
on updates authentic Alan not fighting with us, which is
(44:36):
unique for an authentic Allen tweet. Right, Arnie is absolutely right.
From the beginning of the season, the Brooklyn Nets were
seen as the more serious championship contender than the Lakers.
The Lakers Big three only playing twenty games together this
season has to count for something to be fair. So,
in other words, he's with you saying the Nets would
be a bigger disappointment than the Lakers this year. Yeah,
(44:57):
I think the Nets were a bigger favorite to when
they are are closer to being the favorite to win
the championship than the Lakers were. And they were certainly
up there more than the Lakers were they that I mean, Kyrie,
the you know, just derailed everything. Obviously they had to
make the trade with a hardened Simmons hasn't played, as
you mentioned, What the hell is going on there? Why
isn't that a big story? What's going on there? For
(45:19):
crying out loud, I have no idea By the way,
quick update, Lakers are Dodgers and Angels do play June
four and fifteen. Thank you, Danny G. But back to
your point, I have no idea. I in fact, there
was a point whenever I was making I don't know,
an opinion, throwing a hot take out there in the
(45:39):
inn our one where I said, and Ben Simmons isn't
providing anything because he's not even shown up that I thought, wait, wait,
has he stepped on the court this year? I literally
started digging back in the dude hasn't even stepped on
the court yet this year, Arnie, I mean, what at
some point, if you're the nuts, you're like, hey, can
we get something back from the n p A all
miss because the guy we've traded for is giving us nothing.
(46:02):
And by the way, the preseason odds closed in favor
of Brooklyn. They were the NBA title favorite plus two thirty,
the Lakers a close second choice plus four. You're kinda
I mean, it's a little bit of a of a
larger number. Neither team is gonna hit there over number.
I think the Lakers over under was fifty two and
a half. The NETS was fifty six and a half.
(46:24):
In fact, the only team of the top five preseason
odds that's gonna hit their over is Golden State, who
had an over un at forty eight and a half
and there at forty nine right now. But I mean,
I think, uh, what's how did they get? Did they
win their fiftieth tonight? Fifty? There you go? Um, But
I guess the bottom line more than anything else here,
aren't he is? We can debate bigger disappointment who who
(46:46):
maybe can can wear that collar? But this is just
a complete Nutter meltdown by the Lakers. Well, I can't
think the other way to put it, but I gotta
say something. You know you were talking about. All they
need is that one move. All they need to go
and make that one move. Um, there is one person
I can think of they could make a move for
the little bit of a long shot, but not too crazy.
(47:08):
They get this person and boom they're right back to
to be in one of the favorites to win the championship.
Who is that person? This guy didn't even average ten
points a game, so you never guess. Okay, then tell
us Live radio h buddy Steve Kerr, You mean Steve
(47:28):
Kerr running the Lakers leaving Golden State to take Well,
I didn't start that rumor. The guys up and ninety
five seven are fillion are great at Fleet up there
in San Francisco. One of the hosts said, I see
the Warriors moving on from Steve Kerr after this year.
Why would they want to do that? If they want
to move on after Steve Kerry, you don't take that
Genie Buss. We all went to high school together. You
(47:50):
don't think that Genie Buzz would snap him up in
a heartbeat. How perfect would he be? You can give
him a little bit more of a You can give
him a little bit more of a you kay. Did
you imagine? Could you imagine if Steve Kerr was the
head coach of the Lakers and having the blessing of
gen Bus and tell me he couldn't get just about
anybody to come to the Lakers. I wouldn't want that
(48:12):
because that would try to give you a reason to
move back to California and just so you can try
to get to games for free and say, coach, that's
exactly why, exactly Chris. For a second, he sounded like
one of those dogs you saw with your daughters earlier. Yeah,
I know right, it's crazy. Listen, Arnie, I love you.
Give me no, let's give pause real quick. First of all,
(48:36):
I've had a situation with you calling me about something.
In fact, this goes back to out kick whenever Lane
Kiffin was on Lane Kiffin. I don't know, Danny g
if you remember, Lane Kiffin came on when he was
at Florida Atlantic and I think Joe Clatt and Joe
Klatt said something along lines and well Clay said something
along lines with well, Joe class picking you to win,
(48:57):
and Lane Kiffin is like, no, no, no, no, because
they were playing Oklahoma, right, flori Atlantic was opening up
with Oklahoma already calls me. He's like, dude, your show
is set for today because Lane Kiffin just said they're
gonna beat Oklahoma. I'm like what he's like, yet, lane
Kiffin just said on Clay Travis's show that Florida Atlantic's
gonna beat Oklahoma. So I get all of our producers,
(49:20):
me and my buddy start digging too the audio, and basically,
Lane Kiffin's like, no, don't be, don't be talking about us.
Be So I don't know what you heard. You have
based this whole theory on something you allegedly heard on
our affiliate in in the Bay Area seven the game.
Now are you Is this something that you imagine you heard?
(49:41):
Is there a tweet someone of those there was a
tweet put out by their station and then the audio
of it. But my thing is, and I think a
couple of days ago, and I wouldn't think they would
want to move on from Kurbadge. You never know. I mean,
this is the NBA Coaches of the Year been fired
before um or maybe he wants a change, Maybe he'd
like to go back to Los Angeles. You know, he
(50:03):
with the Pacific Palisades High School by friends, so maybe wanted.
Of course, Pubbly haz Thistill does a great relationship with Jeanie.
I I don't know. You tell me, and does that
seem far fetched or what? I think? It seems awesome
to a certain degree, But I think it seems very
far fetched. I'm not gonna pretend why would you want
(50:23):
to leave going State. You've got Steph Curry signed up.
Now there's a Draymond Green conversation that's gonna be had.
Clay Thompson when he's healthy. You've got a pretty good
young core. You have a New Arena. You you seem
to have say when it comes to personnel, he paid
pretty good money, not a bad place to live. I mean,
(50:43):
I don't know, because seems like a pretty good job.
Well obviously you got you got the obvious reasons. Where
maybe him in Golden State there's something going on that
we don't know about. Or maybe he's like, you know what,
I want a different challenge, or maybe I want to
move back to southern California. Or maybe he has a
great relationship with Genie Buzz. Like I said, we all
went to high school, and maybe he wants a challenge
(51:04):
to get the Lakers back on track. Um, I don't know.
It could be several things. You know, you're probably right
he doesn't leave, but I mean it isn't If he
ever did leave Golden State, certainly the Lakers would be
the number one choice. In my opinion, I thought Arizona
was his number one choice if he ever Yeah, you
know I did, well. I I just I wanted to
(51:24):
make sure that it was legit, something that had been
talked about, because, as I just brought up, you pulled
the rug out from under me before. So I don't know,
Aren'tie making something up that he thought he heard or
if maybe one of our Bay Area homies can hit
us up, because yeah, I don't know, guys, that just
doesn't seem like it would compute that golden and he
looked that up. He's got to do something. I don't
do anything. You haven't looked it up. Yeah, he does nothing,
(51:46):
absolutely nothing on the show. All right. A couple of
other tweets. Sorry, I got that. That's already's fault. By
the way, we were in the middle of Twitter when
you try to get Steve Kura to the Lakers. Brandon
rights are Brandon rights. The Lakers need to trade one
of their stars this off season for some draft capital.
They need some shooters in the draft and free agency. Also,
they are each in dire need of a heart since
(52:08):
they play defense like a cowardly Lions. Nice Wizard of
Oz reference UM Football Group said, Notice, Steve Kerr, Laker
fans don't want the guy Lessie brings Curry Luke Walton.
The ball guys had a great winning percentage with Curry,
is true? That is true? Um, can I answer Brandon
(52:30):
question before you start moving on to your fake account?
Pact twelve football googu that's Arnount, Yeah, I think so.
But here's my thing. I don't think that you should
worry at all about draft capital. In the NBA. There
are only two rounds, and essentially what sixties sixty four picks.
You can find plenty of dudes that are playing in
(52:51):
the G league that can give you just as much
of an opportunity to be successful. If you're picking, We're
typically the Lakers should be picking. And by the way,
I would give us some first round picks to bring
in Anthony Davis or Russell Westbrook and learned my lesson
to move on from there. Arni. They went the draft
path and it they sucked. They were really good at
picking guys. Brandon Ingram was a great draft pick. Julius
(53:12):
Randall worked out. Uh gosh, I think you can even
say a Lonzo Ball was even though you took him
over Tatum, which is a huge mistake, but there was
a good pick. He's good NBA player. But yeah, I
just I don't think the Lakers are gonna go down
that road with this current ownership or leadership for a
long time. So if that's your plan and your thought
as a fan, oh go get draft capital. I don't
think that's ever happening with the Purple and the Gold.
(53:36):
I think you're espposed to be with Lebron on the team.
They want to get somebody to stop wished. They're not
gonna wait for somebody to you know, when the rookies
kind of come along pretty fast if you get the
right one. So it's not as many years to wait
is as it used to be? You know? Uh? And
then one more here when Miami drafted to Arendy said
they were going to the Super Bowl? Plank is correct again? No,
(53:57):
wait a minute, go ahead, When did I say that?
How many years ago? Let's see two went into what
his second season, so that would be three two and
a half years ago. And now I'm gonna be right
well again, Danny g wrote a letter to the boss saying,
I demand to be at the Super Bowl this year
so I can watch the Rams take on the Dolphins. Demanded.
(54:22):
So that's what I'm not asking, I'm demanding. All right, Well,
good luck with that. And what do you think I'm
gonna miss the Dolphins playing in the Super Bowl? So
I don't think you're gonna miss it because I don't
think it's happening. Uh. Brew Town Joey is a man
after my heart who writes the Lakers suck, yet talk
radio can't stop talking about them. The NBA must be
(54:43):
inherently boring if the best team doesn't get talked about,
but the disappointing teams get talked about. Let me tell
you something. If we went into the NFL season and
the Green Bay Packers are two and fourteen or gonna
be talking about Aaron Rodgers three and thirteen, We're gonna
be talking about the Packers. If Tom Brady fails in
(55:07):
his return to the Buccaneers, Arnie, there's gonna be more
talk about that than a team like the Raiders, who
are probably what do you think we're gonna say about
Mahomes if they're gonna be like but I completely get it.
I mean, I brought this up earlier. I hate that
in you know, the middle of March Madness, I tune
into Undisputed on Fox Sports one and they're yelling at
(55:30):
each other over the Lakers. And if Wressell Westbrook can
work like we got March Madness going on, we got
a National Championship game on Monday night. But in fairness
to meet Joey and I've I've confessed this on the
show tonight. It finally hit me the err and going
to the playoffs, so sorry, not sorry, fandom kicked in
and I'm in complete and utter shocked that this roster
is as bad as it truly is. So hey, listen,
(55:53):
in my world, it just took Anthony Davis getting healthy
and all three being on the court at the same time,
and guess what, they're still terrible. When we come back,
we're heading to Vegas. Todd Ferman is going to join
us to break down all the numbers leading into Monday
Night's National Championship game next with Arni in Plank on
Fox Sports Radio. Areni and Plank on Fox Sports Radio
(56:18):
every single Sunday night whenever he's kind enough to join us,
we hang out with Todd Ferman bet the Board podcast.
You hear him on Fox Sports Radio out Kick the website. Todd,
what's going on? Man? How fun was this weekend? Kind
of felt? At least from some of the people I
talked to. Uh, it's always been back to normal, right
with the Super Bowl, but just with March madness in
(56:40):
the final four, even more of a sense of normalcy
in Vegas. Yeah, I mean the opening weekend is obviously
the biggest bus when you have games crammed into the
span of four days and you get a lot of
folks that will come in Wednesday night and take full
advantage of an extensive menu from a betting standpoint, and
things kind of peter out as you go through the
round of sixteen into the Elite eight. In the final
(57:00):
four is more or less an afterthought, but always good
to have some of those marquis sporting events. It's good
to see a lot of the pictures that circulates through
social media knowing folks are itching to get their gambling
fix out here in the desert. Is uh well, first
of all, there's a lot of money coming on that.
Or could you only imagine if Duke was in the finals,
they'd be throwing money at you guys to get a
bet on this. Huh yeah, I'm not really sure our
(57:21):
need to be honest. If Duke's there changes the betting
handle all that much. I think folks that were gonna
bet the game still know the name cache that Kansas
in North Carolina bring to the table. Of course, un
see a little bit of a Cinderella story, not obviously
with a program pedigree but when you consider that they
were a hundred seventy five to one to win the
national title at some shops before this tournament started, they've
obviously exceeded everyone's expectations and they've really embraced that underdog mentality,
(57:45):
going all the way back to that regular season finale
against Duke where they want outright as a double digit dog,
and by some advanced metrics that you look at that
are circulating out there, arguably the most efficient team in
the country since the calendar flipped from February to March.
We'll see if they can close things out and in
six games in style, pulling off yet another upset as
a four point underdog. Yeah, it's it's wild to think
(58:06):
the blue blood that is North Carolina being such a surprise.
But I brought this up and I'm always curious for
your opinions on things like this. This loss for for
coach Katie go out losing your last two, well the
last two major games, right home finale against North Carolina
and your career end again against North Carolina. I mean,
that's gotta burn for the for one of the greatest
coaches of all time. Basically his career was hitted by
(58:29):
his arts rival. Oh, I'm sure it's not something that
sticks with you that you go ahead. This is a
ringing endorsement for everything I've been able to accomplish. But
you know, looking at the symmetry, losing your first ever
game as a head coach against North Carolina and losing
your final game, it all comes full circle and it
just goes to show for everyone that thought they were
going to have the Cinderella send off. You have to
go out there and execute, and Duke really wasn't able
(58:51):
to do that in terms of knocking down their free
throws when they mattered most and keeping some of their
key personnel out of fall trouble. Credit to North Carolina,
they never shied away from the moment when there were
multiple opportunities for Duke to run away at and hide,
and Caleb Love went out there and really put the
team on his back in that second half. You know,
North Carolina is an eight seed yet only a four
point underdog. I think every everything's pointed Kansas minus the
(59:14):
number and taking the over one fifty two, right? Is
that word is right? Now? You know, totals come down
to touch. It did open as high as one fifty
three uh, seeing some one fifty one and a half
out there. If you shop around you can still find
one fifty two and a half. Four and a half
was more or less the prevailing number on Kansas. That
price is now down to four. And I think when
you look at North Carolina you can go one of
two ways. Does this team over value given the five
(59:37):
wins that we've seen from them so far and what
do they have left in the tank after an emotional
final four game. But on the flip side, you do
wonder about Kansas and what they've been able to show
us through the first five games of the tournament. This
was a side that saw their odds short and considerably
when we knew what their road was going to look like.
And if you rolled over their money line through with
the first five games of the tournament, it pay you
back a shade more than three and a half to one.
(59:59):
So would just be to the fact that things broke
the right away for Bill Self's team, and there's no
doubt you have to go out there and beat teams.
But I don't think a lot of people envisioned Kansas
being de facto Big East champions and route to potentially
cutting down the nets and being national champions with wins
against creating providence in Villanova. To get to this points
wild hanging out with Todd firm and right, I'm an
hour and thirty minutes in and we haven't even talked
(01:00:20):
about the NFL yet. So again, your opinion, is there
something more you think the bruce Arians retirement or ripped
with Brady or you're taking them out of his word. Oh,
there's no doubt in my opinion that this was openly
discussed for Tom Brady to try and come back, that
the two didn't quite see eye to eye, and I
believe a lot of the stories that are out there.
When you see bruce Arians care free demeanor, you can
understand if Tom Brady is a workaholic and he sees
(01:00:42):
his head coach not putting in that same level of
commitment and engagement that he grew accustomed to in New England,
it can obviously provide a rift and winning is the
ultimate cure. All so, when you're able to win a
Super Bowl and Brady's first trip through, then you've kind
of put some of that stuff on the back burner.
Suddenly when you come up a bit short. Combine that
with the way Bruce area handled the Antonio Brown situation,
(01:01:02):
and you realize that there were two strong personalities. Bruce
has accomplished enough at this point that he doesn't need
the headaches of trying to go through the meat grinder again.
And I think Tom still really believes that he's got
a little bit more left in the tank. And I
think the retirement initially was as much a leverage play
to either move Bruce arians out or try and force
the hand of the Bucks and get traded to a
more desirable situation. Hopefully the Dolphins will stay at like
(01:01:24):
thirty forty two one to win the Super Bowl and
won't drop down to even money before I get my
bet down there times you know already you'll have plenty
of time. They won't drop down to even money even
if they're one of two combatants actually playing in the
Super Bowl in next February, So you'll have ample time
to be able to move your seven figures not depending
on where you put the decimal point, and get down
(01:01:44):
as much cash as you'd possibly like on the fin Gosh,
you you pumped about baseball, Todd, is that something you
like to way drawn? With opening dates starting on Thursday?
You know I grew up a die hard Yankee fan.
I still watch a lot of their games, but Baseball
for me, just because of the burnout I go through
after the luge inn NFL season, then obviously college basketball
and being a big hockey fan, that it kind of
gets put on the back burner, you know, full disclosure.
(01:02:07):
I have my big fantasy baseball draft coming up on Tuesday,
and I'm actually dreading it more so than looking forward
to it. But one thing for baseball that's so much
different for me, Chris, And when I look at it,
it's great the energy and the excitement in early April,
but the season is so damn long that I think
it's so difficult when you have a lot of other
obligations for people to stay fully engaged. And unfortunately for baseball,
the one thing that works against them when you get
(01:02:29):
to the playoffs and it is the best time of year,
it really takes a back seat to all the conference
races in college football and of course the NFL that
kicks off in Earnest Todd For those novice out there,
what should I really get on the USA t USA
to Winney World Cup? What's what should be the real
odds and what are you getting out there in Vegas?
You know eighty to one upwards of a hundred to one.
If you shop around a little bit, you may be
(01:02:50):
able to find an even better price than that. When
you look at their group, I actually think it's relatively favorable.
All things being considered. We know that England is the
odds on favorite at a shade more than minus two dollars,
meaning you have to put up two dollars in twenty
cents to make a dollar. And when you look at
the USA, if Ukraine ends up emerging from that trio
of European sides between Scotland Wales, it'll probably make Team
(01:03:12):
USA the third favorite in the group right around plus
a dollar twenty five to advance. But this team is
always relish the underdog role and I think on the
big stage with such a young core, this is a
great dress rehearsal where they can play with a bit
of house money if you get out of the group.
In my opinion, it's a win because there will be
no excuses given the expectations on Team USA and the
(01:03:33):
World Cup comes in North America. You're the man Todd
Firm and check them out on Twitter at Todd Firm
and the Better Board Podcast. We'll talk to you next
Sunday night. But enjoy always a pleasure, gentleman, and Arnie.
I'll be waiting. I'm expecting you to give me your final,
our final, your frozen four prognostications. We have two big
semifinals coming up on Thursday. My friend, let's go. Michigan's
really going out on a limb. There, the team that's
(01:03:54):
got thirty seven NHL draft pick Leave us to Arnie
Chris to really put himself out there. I see it's
they got thirty seven draft picks. Oh my gosh, that's depth, gentlemen,
that's death. All right. Tweets have been great tonight. We'll
dive into those next. Peter King just dropped his f
M I a article. I got an update on if
(01:04:16):
I was telling the truth or I very good. Steve
to Sega, what's going on? Man? We all have a
guess on that one. As for Tony referenced, the World
Cup draw was just Friday. Many of the games with
the time difference are morning here for much of our country.
The three US games will all be two pm Eastern time.
That includes US men's soccer against England in the World
(01:04:39):
Cup November, the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's Thanksgiving week when
the World Cup starts. Why in the world you say
it's not gonna be played in the summer due to
the heat and the host country, Qatar was awarded by
FIFA in a vote that was shall we say, tainted
with corruption, and therefore once we get to World Cup year,
they say, you know, we're not going to be la
(01:05:00):
games in a hundred ten degrees every day, so they're
gonna make all the European leagues, these are huge money
maker leagues stop for a month and then the world
come there. So it's on Fox and FS one, but
the World Cup doesn't start till November, and f y I.
The U S since returning to World Cup a nine,
so this is a decent span we're talking, has only
(01:05:20):
beaten the European opponent once one on eleven with five ties.
So when we get to US England, England being one
of the favorites along with France, Brazil, Yeah, that would
be an accomplishment if they beat England. There women's hoops,
we had the national championship game in Minneapolis tonight. Number
one ranks South Carolina, the winner In fact, they led
Yukon thirteen to two early sixty four forty nine the
(01:05:44):
final for the tournament. South Carolina allowed only forty five
points per game, which would be the lowest for any
men's or women's champ going back seventy five years, except
Yukon had a team about a decade ago that only
allowed forty three points per game in attorney. But South
Carolina opened this n c A tournament with a win
of seventy nine to twenty one. That'll bring the average down.
(01:06:07):
They led that game against Howard You sixty three to eight,
just for the record, So a great game, I mean
great season finished with this game, a double digit win
over the legends from Yukon. This is the South Carolina
team that was twenty nine and one until losing the
conference tournament title to Kentucky on a late three. The
NBA regular season ends a week from tonight. The Clippers
(01:06:29):
have taken the late game to clinch eighth place in
the West, so to play in chances for the Clippers,
and they do have Paul George Beck these days clips
are thirty nine and forty. Time to celebrate they beat
New Orleans one. San Antonio might be getting that last
play in spot and they're up to thirty three and
forty five on the season. Sper sent Portland to a
(01:06:52):
seventh straight loss one thirteen to ninety two. Lakers lost
their sixth straight. Denver beat him in l A one
eighteen Nakola Yokich thirty eight points, eighteen rebounds. He had
seven turnovers, all of them seemingly in the first seven
minutes of the game. Dallas in Boston each one. Road
wins for Detroit and New York, road wins for Minnesota
and Miami as well. The Heat first place in the
(01:07:12):
East two games over Boston, two and a half up
on Philadelphia and Milwaukee. It is bunched in the East
at the top and again. The season ends in a
week Golden State in Oklahoma City with wins. White Sox
pitcher Lance Lynn will miss about two months. You'll have
knee surgery for a torn ten and the Padres acquired
lefty pitcher Sean Mniah from the A's Denny Hamlin took
(01:07:34):
the NASCAR race at Richmond, Ryan Blanier in the poll,
but finished seventh. He had led from the start until
lap one nine. NASCAR has now had seven different winners
in seven Cup Series races this year with the new
next gen cars and j J spawn when the Texas opened.
His first p G A Tour victory and it comes
in his one d forty seventh start on tour. A
(01:07:56):
guy who was born in l A played at San
Diego's Day not only wins about a million and a
half by taking this tournament, he earns an entry into
the Masters. So congratulations Matt Coucher tied for second to back.
He gets over seven hundred sixty thousand dollars. Even the
golfers who tied for eighth place in a diminished field
this weekend, tie for eighth, you get over two hundred
(01:08:19):
thirty thousand dollars. Brand Snedeker shot a final round seventy
five after being tied for the lead to start the day.
He tied for eighteenth place. Back to you, thanks, Steve.
All Right, it's aren't even playing on Fox Sports Radio
quick recap if you're just tuning in. Artie has basically
said that he saw somewhere that what our affiliate in
San Francisco, the Bay are you seven the game was
(01:08:42):
what theorizing that the Warriors might move on now, we
weren't able to find it, but you found it right,
because our our producer, Danny G will do everything he
can to make me look like a moron. So he
tells us beca, how many days you want me to
go back? Going back? Three days on their back. So
(01:09:05):
I'm like, you know, by the way, it didn't catch
at traction that story anywhere because I googled it with
their call letters and nothing comes up. So so I'm
thinking about myself. I don't know, maybe there is something
wrong with me. Maybe I am a dope. And nobody
said that. I just made it up out of the blow.
So I said, you know what, I'm going to text
the boss of seven the game, Matt Hagey it okay.
(01:09:29):
So I texted, I, go, hey, buddy, who on your
station said the Warriors should move on from Kerr after
the year? I think it was last week. And he
got back to him he said, Matt stein Metz said
that so it's just a random host saying something. But
I said it was a host. Say I said it
was a host? Hear it? Then if we can't find
it anywhere, I wouldn't see what the problem is. I was,
(01:09:52):
It's on it is on Twitter, just Danny G. Won't
work more than three seconds. I whole fifty party. You
didn't even look you texted somebody? Why text the boss?
But should make me look like a marad everything. I
understand you have arthritis at your age, so it's a
lot of days to scroll back on. Yeah, so I
(01:10:13):
wanted to make sure maybe I wouldn't hear anything. And
I said it was a host that said that. So
I was filling in with Willard for Joy Taylor like
three of the last four Saturdays, and that's how we
came across. That's how I came across. And so because
he worked at that So it was Matt stein Metz
who said, hey, they should move on, and I go,
if they're gonna move on after from Ker, that he
(01:10:33):
should go to the Lakers, Right, wouldn't that be a
pretty good fit? Or what I think? So? But boit?
So all I have to do is like have an
opinion and you're gonna take it as fact? And what
sounds like me? Well, but if you were, if you
were like wait a minute, when you say something about
Oklahoma Sooner softball, I give you credit for that, do
(01:10:55):
I not? I go, well, that's got to be true?
Then well, yeah, because he's not firing something into the
ethos to see if people can get can start talking
about it and you can bring it here with what
one random tan I don't even know if Matt really
feels that way calls let us know, But come on, man,
I even didn't starting that kind of Why would they
(01:11:15):
want to move on from Steve Kerr? Number one? Why
would they want to move on? Well, I mean, if
you take google what they've done this year, and yes
they've had some injuries. I thought they've had a pretty
good year. But um, maybe it's time to go in
a different direction. Maybe the owners are like, you know what,
Steven's You've got us as far as you can and
you've done a great job, and maybe we want to
go in a different direction. Now you tell me why
(01:11:35):
would they want to move on from the Artie? This
would be like us tweeting out from the FSR account
that Arnie Spanier says the Dolphins are gonna win the
Super and then some other evening show across the country says,
you know, I saw this thing on Fox Sports where
the Dolphins are gonna go to the Super Bowl. Are
you gonna tell me if Skip Bayliss came on tomorrow
(01:11:56):
morning on TV and said, I guarantee you my Cowboys
are going to the super Bowl. We wouldn't be talking
about it making fun of them or something like that.
Come on now, I would much rather be talking about it,
are having something to talk about, and just saying I'm
gonna say something so people will make fun of me.
I mean, that's I guess I don't get. I don't
understand this at all, but I don't. Again, this is
(01:12:19):
not the game problem. This is an ARETI problem. Are
you serious as already problem? I can't even comment on
when other people are commenting on what the hell's going on? Rules? Man,
you broke them all. Um, now, listen, a couple of
things I want to get to here. I'm glad you
were solved. This is my favorite part of this. I'm
glad you solved the controversy of having to text someone
(01:12:41):
that works at the station actually get the story because
because I know Danny g knuckle ahead is gonna make
me look like a baddy and me and Bobo all
looking for you guys called me out. I'm not just
gonna sit here and on your birthday. You know when
you called me out, that's like double daring me. You
can't double dare me. It's like when you call McFly chicken,
(01:13:05):
you can't call me chicken. That's a back to the
future reference. You gotta update those from all the younger
listeners out there. It was a good one, that's why.
That's why I explained it, just to be clear. So
two quick things here, and I know we gotta break
and maybe we carry one over the next hour. But
Bruce Arians leaving the bucks, Peter King, who I guess
(01:13:28):
what he decided? Did Bruce Arians to reach out to
Peter King and Sam Farmer and give them the exclusive
Both wrought wrote really good articles, but yet there's still
that question over okay, what happened here? And in Peter
King's He ten ten NFL Truths, he had one bullet
point to this and it kind of resonated with me
because it's how I feel about this old saga. Peter
(01:13:51):
King wrote, what really happened at the end of the
Arians era was he pushed overboard by Brady. We don't
know all parties and nayet but because of because associates
a Brady said, Brady was beginning to chafe at Arians.
After two seasons with him, A level jump has been made.
(01:14:11):
The jump. Brady said he'd come back if Arians was gone,
and then Arians was gone, so Brady must have done it. Added,
I don't doubt the friction, and I don't know if
Brady acted on the friction. Anyone got the facts to
support it. Okay, if so, let's hear them this is
(01:14:34):
let's have a little comments. Go ahead. What it takes
a rocket site does to figure out what the hell happened?
Brady said, I'm not coming back. If you're gonna go
ahead and be this soft man, you don't do anything.
And I'm not used to crap like this. I'm USTI
working with somebody like Belichicks thinkers. Look, you want me
to come back? This is why he probably went to
to you know, meet with the owners out there and uh,
(01:14:57):
you know what he was talking to, h what's the
na although or whoever it was, or whoever it was,
who was he talking to? It wasn't it was Christiano Ronaldo? Okay,
I see you. You you it was just random that
you brought up the soccer moment and and his sudden
getting new jersey and he probably went out there and
he said, you know what, either he starts picking it
(01:15:18):
up or I'm not coming back. I want him gone.
And that's exactly what happened. I mean, come on, you
don't have to be uh you know, men's going to
figure what what what played down in this thing? Well
then that there goes that topic. When we come back
here on Arnie and play. I just I think there's
a little bit more to it than you're trying to
lay out. I just do I I don't over don't
overthink it. I think in this instance you have to
(01:15:40):
because unless there's gonna be a tell all here here soon,
everyone seems to be trying to tell us that nothing
is going on here. And there's no friction in that.
It was just him all right. When we come back,
Steve Segel was caught up on everything going on in
the world of sports, plus a little buy or sell
in your tweets on Fox Sports Radio, he's already Spanie,
(01:16:04):
I'm Chris Plank. Steve the Sager joins us to wrap
up our to what's going on. Steve, Hello, gentlemen. We
have the preliminary ratings for the Final Four last night
on TBS. The first game Kansas Villanova about ten million
viewers and then Duke North Carolina over sixteen million, which
is a nice number to my eyes because it's not
(01:16:26):
on a regular channel. This year's CBS does not have
the Final four, and far fewer have TBS than say,
a decade ago when they first got into the March
Madness business. Last year's great semifinal, the Classic the Gonzaga
One on the three at the Buzzer against U c
l A. That was about fifteen million viewers, but again
that was regular channel CBS. When TBS has had these
(01:16:47):
semifinals before, it's usually about thirteen million viewers, but last
night was sixteen mill plus for the Duke North Carolina game,
and that second half was sensational as we had toward
the championship against Kansas tomorrow. Keep in mind that Carolina
for the season averaged about seventy eight points a game
and Kansas seventy nine points a game, and they each
scored eighty one last night, so if the final scores
(01:17:10):
right around eighty, that would be about their averages. To
take the over, well, there you go. Kansas shot from
the floor as a team this year, which was in
the top twenty in shooting of any club, and if
it comes down to a close game near the end.
North Carolina is normally a good free throwing team, not
like historic Villanova type of free throwing, but seventy as
(01:17:33):
a team for the season. Just for the record, did
you notice that? And it's not aired yet, but I
saw the transcripts. Carlos Beltron has given an interview regarding
the Astros cheating five years ago with he with the
Yes Network. Why you ask, because they just hired him
to be the Yankees new cable analyst. Exactly. The team wow,
(01:17:57):
that beat the Yankees in seven in the ALCS that
year was Houston with the cheating, and that kept the
Yankees from the World Series, and then Houston beat the
Dodgers in seven in the World Series with the cheating,
especially in Game five. So he comes clean and I
assume this was just part of the deal to get
the gig, that he had to sit down with somebody.
But you know, in a way he admits that, like,
(01:18:20):
looking back today, we were wrong. We all did what
we did. But this was like a week ago. When
Will Smith gets up on stage and he kind of
said sorry, but he didn't really say sorry, you know
what I mean, because he's saying things Belcher and like, oh,
twenty seven team, we had a really good team, really
good team, and you know, nobody really said anything. We're winning.
(01:18:40):
You know, some days our system really worked, okay, and
it's also known as cheating. By the way, Carlos, did
you ever you know, he's giving the impression, oh, we
gotta keep up with the Joneses. There were so many
teams cheating, that's the impression. But he says, were we
really didn't feel like we're crossing a line there. We
we felt in our hearts we were just being smarter.
We were being more efficient than he the team out there.
(01:19:01):
So again, this is not really an apology. And so
then they asked, but wait a minute, Major League Baseball
before the playoffs in once again, Warren teams that using
electronics to steal that's completely illegal. He says, yeah, well,
if the front office ever got that letter, they never
shared it with us. Nobody ever said anything to us.
You know, I really wish the front office and sent
(01:19:24):
it's the responsibility of others to tell you to stop cheating.
This is really really and then he goes on by saying,
you know, when I sat down with MLB after the fact,
they said we're not going in on the players. We're
going you know, like field personnel, managers, front office. And
then my name gets mentioned as the regularly I I
don't get that. I every nobody else gets immunity. I
(01:19:47):
didn't get immunity. And then he closes out. Okay, is
they're staying on the championship. He says, yes, because you
know what we did. But then he finishes what we've
all taken responsibility and at some point we've all shown
remorse about what we did. Really, all the Houston Astros
have shown remorse. Asked Carlos Korea if he is remorseful
(01:20:09):
about what they did in I mean, somebody brought up
the legitimacy of their World Series at one point and
he told him to shut up and started swearing at him.
So and that was another player, by the way, but
Correa had by far his best adding average, batting average
of his career that year, his career high, in Homer's
his career high, and on base. Look at the home
(01:20:29):
and road splits for the al twove. It was just
ridiculous what they were doing. And they're still not, in
this sense coming clean. You got the ringleader of it
who agrees to sit down with an interview for yes,
and I'm glad he did that honestly, But my goodness,
if you're gonna apologize, can you mean it? Please show
some some belief that you did something wrong, by the way,
(01:20:51):
Carlos Beltron, greatest manager in Mets history. Alright, two hours down,
one hour ago. We'll wrap it up with your tweets next. Oh,
let's go. Birthday my final hour. I did a little
(01:21:13):
digg in. Do you know all the famous people that
have the same birthday as you do? I think Eddie
Murphy is one of them. Eddie Murphy is one of them,
That is correct. I think you and him are about
the same age, right are we? Because I look at
a lot younger than them. Eddie Murphy, I hate you?
You really, Okay? Eddie Murphy is sixty one today, So
(01:21:36):
there's Sebastian Bach is fifty four today. Former rocker. Uh,
David will former You're never a former rocker. You always
rock throughout the rock horns. Um David Hyde Pierce turned
sixty three. Fraser's brother Alec Baldwin, Oh, get out of here, sixty.
I was waiting for you to tell me you went
to high school with him or something. Uh, and then
(01:21:58):
Wayne Newton turns eight. Wayne Newton, that's it. That's the
best you got for me, Wayne, Oh, Arnie, listen, I
was just aspired to shout out a new affiliate. Don't
get us in trouble of our Vegas affiliate. That's all
we've got for you. What are you thinking right now? Hey,
big Welcome to Central Oregon's new sports radio station nine
(01:22:20):
nine The Ticket and Bend Oregon home the Trailblazers, Seahawks,
and Oregon State football and baseball. Big welcome to basketball.
What did I say baseball? Well, you need your baseball
team to The Beavers are worthy of a baseball and
softball network. Let's go boys. But a big welcome to
(01:22:41):
Keith Shipman and company for being part of the Fox
Sports Radio. I always wanted to move to Oregon. It
wasn't if I didn't move to Vermont. I was going
to move to Oregon. Then why did you, well, why
did you choose Vermont over Oregon? Then? Witness relocation is
what it was. It was because a hockey Really, the
Oregon's got a hockey team. Now, Universe, Oregon has got
a good hockey team, you know, what else. University of
(01:23:02):
Oregon has incredible on on their campus facilities. UM and
by the way, Oregon and Oregon State. Oregon State, by
the way, uh imploded their football state and it's one
of the coolest I've watched it like a thousand times.
They literally just finally destroy that press box from like
nineteen o eight. They're getting a brand new football stadium
or at least renovated. So thanks and welcome to the
(01:23:24):
newest member of the Fox Sports Radio family, nineties six
nine the ticket. All right, now here's it's up to you,
aren't It's your birthday, so you pick. We can talk
a little Tiger Woods. We haven't touched on the game
time decision. We can hit Twitter dot com, or we
can talk Mike Sachowski or your boy Eric Church. Which
direction do you want to go to kick off the
(01:23:45):
final hour? Wow? I mean I would like to get
to some Tiger but we can start with Eric Church
because that was a big story this week. Everybody was
kind of losing their marvels about this well, and it
was funny because you even brought up after our first
segment like, oh, I want to get into this to
night because I don't really have a problem with it,
So maybe I'm the bad guy. I thought it was
kind of cool. But what you got an issue with this? No?
(01:24:07):
You know at first up like, I didn't have a
problem with it either. I'm like, Okay, the guy wants
to watch the North Carolina tar Heels. You know what's
the problem here? So he canceled the show. Then I
just then I saw Steve Gorvian, you know who used
to work here at the station, um, who was a
drummer of course for the uh, what is it the
(01:24:27):
County Crows? Is that what it was? I'm sorry, I
just botched that up. So he goes, you'd never you'd
never go ahead and cancel a show, And I guess
a lot of people were all upset about that. I goes,
really that big of a deal that he cancels one
show just so we can watch the tar Heels. And
then I started thinking what happens if a player said
(01:24:50):
I'm gonna sit a game out because I want to
go see the Rolling Stones. Remember when Vince Carter says
he was gonna sit a playoff game out because he
wanted to walk through graduation. Remember I don't know if
remember that from like twenty years ago or something, and
we made a stink about that, like he wants to
what he wantn't as a playoff game. So if you
put it in that perspective, if an athlete tried to
(01:25:12):
pull the same bologny, we'll be letting them having like crazy?
Would we not Chris or what if an athlete tried
to pull that? Maybe? But again I don't I don't
think you have to compare it to something all the time.
But if Lebron said I'm not playing today because I'm
going to see this all the time. They do it
(01:25:32):
all the time. But he shows up to the game,
does he do you care? Doesn't matter if they're sitting
on the bench or not. I mean, didn't didn't make
you feel like Lebron was any more engaged tonight because
it wasn't like it wasn't like he wasn't at the
the arena and he was watching a concert or something
like that. Here's where Eric Church screwed up. And by
(01:25:55):
the way, bench Carter still got back in time for
the playoff game despite walking and graduate shnarni. So he
did walk in graduated, but people were giving him crap
over that. Why why would you ever give anyone crap
for celebrating that's accomplished. It was twenty years ago, I know,
and and it sticks out with me so much because
we gave him so much grieful for that we you,
(01:26:15):
I think you were giving him great were people you wanted?
Brian Flores fired before he coached a game because he
went back to the ring ceremony for the pages. This
might be a you issue right now, aren't more than
anything else. Here's the problem. He was honest, Eric Church.
Should I teach him? That would teach him to be honest?
(01:26:37):
I know right now here here's the thing that would
have screwed him because of course you could play an
Eric Church song right now and I would have no
idea what song you're playing. And I had no idea
who he was, right well, I mean I knew who
he was, but I don't know any of his music.
So I was I thought it was I'm guilty of
loving the third degree And that's Alabama song you and
(01:27:00):
not saying Eric Church was Alabama? Okaye, never never sing again.
I just music, you know, if they want I've never
been more shook in my life. You try to use
an Alabama song to talk about Eric Church ahead I
(01:27:21):
but my point is the only thing that would have
hosed him is him getting caught on camera. Sure enough,
because he became a big story. I mean, I love
the honesty if you're gonna tell me that, hey, guess what,
I had to cancel a concert, but I'm doing it
because my passion for sports makes me want to be here.
To me, I'm like, hey, this is who I am.
(01:27:41):
And I'll tell you one thing that I hope he does.
I hope he makes it up to those who had
to fly or listen to dudes rich beyond rich. So
hope he Hopefully, Arnie, there's some way in which he
can I don't know, maybe reimburse some of those who
had to make big trips last year. Can't. I can't
even use that as an excuse for our own job.
Can you imagine if I told our boss, I'm working tonight,
(01:28:03):
Arizona's playing TCU and I've got to watch the game.
If you were going on you didn't just watch it,
he went to it. You're talking about missing the show
next year so you could go to watch the Dolphins
in the Super Bowl. You do the same damn thing.
I've missed shows to go watch the Raiders play the Rams.
I mean, we do it all the time. I am
(01:28:23):
gonna missus show to see the Dolphins in the Super
Bowl next year, so you can absolutely everyone in life
uses that excuse. We just don't have I don't know
what twenty thousand people showing up to watch us perform,
but yeah, you'd have to call in sick and then,
knowing your luck, you'd end up on the big screen
(01:28:45):
at the game. With Danny g I had him write
an email to the boss. I'm sure he's right on
that too, just like everything else I asked him to do. Yeah, exactly.
You You are dolling out a lot of responsibility to
people who don't have to do anything that you tell
them too. So I can't tell. Are you mad about this?
Are you mad someone chose to actually go to a
(01:29:06):
sporting event? No, I'm not. No, No, I'm not mad
about it. I just said, if we flipped it and
we would have looked at it from the athletes side,
we'd be tearing apart to the athlete um for doing
something like that. But no, I don't think it's that
big of a deal. I saw a lot of people, though,
upset that this guy was doing it. You should never
go ahead and do something like that, and um, you
know you have a responsibility and all that bs. But
I don't have that big of a problem with it.
(01:29:27):
I okay, so hold on night now you've got my
my mind wandering here. It's already a plank on Fox
Sports Radio. What would be something though, that an athlete
might say, I mean, a graduation is a life event.
I don't think I could get mad at anyone, like
you're still mad at Vince Carter for going to graduation
and still making the playoff game, which is hilarious to me.
(01:29:47):
But what would be something I mean, if it was
the final concert ever for their favorite I'm just trying
to come up with. You never Yeah, you can't do that.
You can't can't do it for I mean, my goodness,
we're finbably accepting of people missing games so they can
see the birth of their child. So you know, we
finally got acceptance to that. For crying out loud. Do
(01:30:08):
you realize how cancellable that would have been about it?
What was that like twenty years ago when one of
the coaches like, no, he can't go, yeah, he can't
go get birth? It was his first kid. Okay, maybe
I can see you going, but it's not a verse.
Gandy's already at one. So he's got two kids. Why
does he need to be there for the birth of
the third one? What are we doing? Can you imagine
(01:30:28):
having that that opinion? Now? Oh my goodness, Oh he'd
be so canceled so fast. Let's hit some tweets at
Steak ingenius one at playing show and everybody should be
following us at Fox Sports Radio to pre McMath rights
eat something. Arnie, You're delirious, But that's old that. I
don't know when that came in. That's what I'm saying.
(01:30:48):
That was like, well, I thought it was just now.
I thought Steve could have been the Steve Kerr one
that the Funny Party is. You're like, wait, was it
Steve Kerr? No, No, it was it was it coach. No,
was it's you? You've been all over the map tonight
and I love uh snake your boy rights. Here's what
really happened to Tampa. J Brady just added jet engines
(01:31:09):
to arians retirement chair. I don't know why. I maybe
I'm a fool in this one that I'm taking their
them both at their word. It's just the timing of
it seems so odd. When Bruce arians was yeah, and
I know he left the coaches meeting early, I I
know what he wasn't in the picture that they normally take.
(01:31:30):
Was that the other thing that happened, But I don't know.
Everyone had said that was reporting from that meeting that
he was upbeat and talking about next year. So I
don't know if you knew Brady was coming back in
one of the conditions of you sticking around was that
he was gone. When he suddenly returns, you're not probably
jumping for joy, but it seems odd. They sure are
(01:31:51):
acting like it. You understand what I'm saying. I mean,
it's just if there's really a disdain there, these are
some damn good actors that are doing these public appearances
to talk about it. Right now. I'm just wondering how
much was arians Um not around, I guess is what
I was thinking. You know, how much of it was like, ah,
the hell with it, it's four o'clock. Man. What Richard
Berger talked about right what he had theorized that you
(01:32:13):
have Byron Leftwitch and Tom Brady had come up with
a plan and then all of a sudden you got
Bruce Arians coming in after rehab and doing his thing,
and he's marking it all up and changing everything, which,
by the way, is funny because that's about the same
thing people were saying about what started the stripe between
Eric b Enemy and Patrick Mahomes, Right like, oh Andy
Reid and Patrick Mahomes had a plan, then suddenly Eric
(01:32:34):
b Enemy comes in and messes it up. But regardless,
Tampa's got a new head. Coach. Pete writes, I really
like the comparison with Gonzaga last year and North Carolina
beating Duke. You can't tell me those kids didn't want
to end coach k with a loss, give me cancers,
So what he's Pete Pete libby hitting us up from
an earlier take that Ara Torres had look back at
(01:32:56):
last year. Gonzaga exerted so much energy to just get
b U c l A that by the time Baylor
brought it in the in the championship game, they had
nothing left. Meanwhile, North Carolina facing something similar emotional arrival
first time in the postseason, squeaked by great game, memorable game.
They could be right for the pick and against the
Kansas team that absolutely Arnie has played some of their
(01:33:21):
best basketball the last two weeks. Right, Um, I don't
think the emotion is not too hard to get up
for this one. But you're right, they put so much
into the effort of trying to get through Duke again.
But if you could be Duke in too tough situations, um,
you can go for the hat trick. I I have
my pick on the game coming up at the end
of the site, at the end of the hour. But
(01:33:42):
it's gonna be a close game. I'll give you a
hint on that one there. Chris and Johnny be good rights.
Tiger in or Tiger out. I think he's going to play.
I would like to bet on him, but you're not
gonna get really true odds uh, but I really would like. Look,
he's not going to win it, but man, what a
story that would be. And once he's out of contention.
(01:34:04):
I could care less about what's happening out there at
the Masters, but as long as Tigers in it, I
want to see what's going on. The update this morning early,
especially on the West coast, Tiger tweeted, I'll be heading
up to Augusta today to continue my preparation and practice
it will be a game time decision on whether I compete.
(01:34:27):
She gave a shout out to Anna Davis on your
win as well. I always had him. I told you
I almost had him on the show. We were at
the golf course out of Thousand Oaks. After he was
playing like one of those, um, you know, match tournaments,
and it was only like four of them. And after
the show I was doing. My show was six o'clock
and there was nobody around, and I look over in
(01:34:49):
the restaurant and the restaurant's at the except one person
sitting there, and it was Tiger Woods. And he literally,
I gotta, I gotta thrown a tennis ball on the
hand to him. He was right there on the other
side of the wind. Oh. And uh, I couldn't get
him on the show. He just he was about to
eat dinner. So I can't imagine you say, hey, hey, Tiger,
come on the I can't imagine how that didn't work
(01:35:11):
for you tonight or whenever. How long ago are we going,
by the way, when we're talking about this Tiger story,
because I'll be honest with you, I haven't heard this
one yet. This is new to really we're going. It
was in thousand oaks, So we have to figure out
when he played a like match, played tournament out in
thousands oaks, probably about a good twenty gosh something years ago.
That would have been the Sherwood. Yeah, that's it. That's right, Sherwood.
(01:35:35):
That was it. Yeah, look at you, Look at you, Dandy,
finally doing something, man, unbelievable. Cut me by surprise. I'll
say this, filling in the blanks in your old brain.
Gotta be here to help him tonight. Tiger hasn't played
in an event, obviously, since his car accident February. UM.
(01:35:56):
He has said he'll never be a full time player
on the PGA Tour again, which I think is an
honest assessment and the fair one, but is multiple comebacks
haven't necessarily gone so well. Augusta fits him. I hope
I see him. I will say this, I've never found
myself more glued to watching a Gulf stream land than
(01:36:19):
I was last week whenever the shots of Tiger's jet
flying into Augustus started making the rounds. And then you know,
kind of like tonight was that moment when I realized, hey,
the Lakers are done. I think like on Wednesday of
this week, Arnie, I started to have this man Tiger
might play, you should have a card. That should just
let him us a card. Oh gosh, don't start that again.
(01:36:41):
Were you I remember listening, Arnie Span you're wanting me
to call eight hundred seven seven seven to nine oh
seven to figure out if Casey Martin should not be
allowed to have a golf card while he rides around.
This birthday celebration has ended up with Arnie telling us
all of his great tales and reminiscing on old hot
take folks. That was that was like the big That
(01:37:01):
was the big call in topic of the year, whether
he should be allowed to Casey Martin, you'll be allowed
to use a golf card? That was a big one.
That was a big one. All right, quick break when
we come back, the tweets are rolling in there. Great,
we'll we'll get to the lace and including a little
anger maybe with where where the Lakers are? And I've
got a fresh edition now of Buy Yourself because we
(01:37:21):
had an NFL trade that went down. We've had big
news about the potential opening weekend of the National Football League.
Buy or Sell and Arnie Spicks all coming up here
on Fox Sports Radio Arnie and playing from Fox Sports Radio,
Bobo on the Wheels of Steel, Danny g producing a
(01:37:42):
heck of a show, doing a great job, Danny doing
a great job, Bobo, Steven Sager on updates Big Ben
Now are coming up in about thirty five minutes or
so from now. In the meantime, Arnie got a little
by herself for you, But can we hit a couple
of tweets before we get They've been really good and
a lot of a lot on the conversation about Eric Church.
(01:38:06):
And I know it's a couple of days old, but
our first real chance to talk about it. Now that
you know North Carolina moved on to the finals, maybe
it makes a little bit more sense. But Jeremiah writes,
as a concert goer, I would be pretty upset if
Dave Matthews canceled his show to attend a soccer match.
But he wouldn't put himself in that position and schedule
(01:38:27):
a tour correctly. He hell, he played three nights, uh,
he played three night weekend with the drummer and bass
player out with COVID last year. Well, Dave Matthews is
a real man. Eric Church is not number one. I'm
just kidding. I'm kidding. Stop. I don't want I don't
want the church choir, madam me, because I got a concert.
(01:38:48):
It's been a minute. It's been a really long time.
As a matter of fact, for me, I don't even
know my last I've gone to sporting events. But it's
just as far as oh gosh, any you just added
a whole another layer of the same because someone might
finally be going out to a concert and Eric Church
all right, let's go. It's been two years. It's been
it's been a while for me. But I I remember
(01:39:09):
when I was before I got married. So I've been
married with twenty five years. You haven't gone to a
concert in twenty five years, I don't think so. Damn man,
we gotta get Alreadie out more. I was. I was
up in Toronto with my wife and we saw Billy
Joel Nelton John. No, that'd be good. It was great.
(01:39:30):
It was fantastic. It was fantastic. Didn't Billy Joel just
retire or oh no, Phil Collins, I'm sorry, just Phil Collins. Um.
So there's there's one side of it. Then there's Justin
and Cincinnati, who writes these people shouldn't get a refund.
If you pay money to go watch country music, you
are the problem because it's steaks. Wow. I like country music.
(01:39:52):
I'm not at my daughter is into it big time. Uh,
Scottie writes, Is lb J not doing that? Only playing
teams that are bad at this point in the season?
Wait a minute, so is the theory that lebron James
is sitting out the games against good teams? And so
he compatis? Is that what you're going with here? Teams?
(01:40:15):
I think, well, yeah, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City, but Oklahoma
City one tonight, so go figure. Uh, there's a couple
more here that really stood out. You want some football talk?
I mean, are are you okay they agree with my
Dolphins go to the Super Bowl? I don't know why
you're you guys just poo poo and that like that's
some crazy thing. After they got I mean, they nobody
(01:40:37):
closed um super Bowl gat more than the Dolphins. They
went from seventy to one to forty to one. That's incredible.
The Broncos with Russell Wilson did um. But but your
points taken. I'm happy for Yarnie. I've just I don't
feel as confident as you do in Miami right now.
The crazy thing is the season doesn't start tomorrow, so
(01:40:59):
there's rumors tonight about Tyrone Matthew and maybe the Colts
being in on him, And then Danny, Danny and I
were wondering, all right, well that's you know, that's kind
of an interesting name because he's been mentioned with the Raiders.
But you wonder where his health is, you said, and
again you got lill. Yeah. So if he was signing
with the Dolphins, it would be right of the greatest
team that's ever being built. But we do have the
(01:41:21):
NFL to talk about Beyandre, Dolphins going to the Super Bowl.
Uh shark shark nado alert on Twitter rights. With the
acquisition of Davante Parker, do you think the Patriots should
cut and kill Harry or keep him on the team
as a blocking tight end? J D and Boston not keeping.
First of all, he's not a tight end. He's a
(01:41:42):
big he was a big target. I thought he was
gonna have a much better career. He is not. He
has been UM a major disappointment, especially UM in a
draft year that had some great wide receivers UM established
themselves in the NFL. So I think I've got to
move on, and I'm surprised that Areas even made it
this far. I might have moved on with him um
(01:42:03):
after last year, but I guess there was not enough
targets for their rookie quarterbacks. So yeah, the DeVante Parker
could scrrect member work with a two years still two
years left on twelve million dollars. That's chump change. I
really wish the Dolphins enough to trade him. And why
did they have to give him to the Patriots. It's
not like they got a king's ransom for him, so
I'm not sure why they had to go and trade
(01:42:24):
into division. WHOA, that is a very very nice deal
for DeVante Parker. That is team friendly as hail. As
far as what New England is getting in, right is it?
Two years? What? Two year? Twelve? Know? You you hit
it right on the head. Now you're you're not gonna
cut him or anything. There's there's not even a dead
cap hit so if it doesn't work out, you can
(01:42:45):
move on. But receiver, yeah, I take that, especially with
the team that I mean, I don't know what changes.
I feel like New England is as fascinating of a team,
even though you don't care about assistant coach. And I
understand what the New England Patriots, but I mean, Josh
McDaniel's been there, he's gone right. I just wonder how
(01:43:07):
difference do you think they're in trouble? You best team
in that division now, well, at least the second best
team in that division. Uh? Did Darryl on fire about
the Carlos Beltran comments, and we'll get the Sager's final
update of the night. Did Carlos Beltran asked the Yes
Network about the Yankees and cheating scandal? Uh? That they've
(01:43:28):
been desperately trying to keep from being linked the Yankees players,
fans and personnel cracked me up. They act so high
and mighty and they cheated as well. I mean, are
we pointing fingers? Now? Are we just gonna go back
and forth with yeah, well you cheated, so guess what
we know? I mean, I I guess that would be
(01:43:49):
kind of fun, right a little as Oh no, no, yeah,
That's what I'm saying is does it then become well,
you may have cheated this hard, but we we know
you cheated even harder. Right where he's just kind of
back and forth. I would cheat on my taxes a
little bit you cheated a lot on your taxes. Don't
you even be putting that out there already, Spaniard, don't
(01:44:10):
you even be putting that out there? I said, I
said one more to Sakers update. But you guys have
been awesome tonight. Our man Pete writes, seems the real
issue with churches cancelation was short notice. By the way,
he has already promised a free show in September. Stop crying,
go terms, So what one happs of he was sicking
after cancel it? Yeah, and he might not even do
(01:44:32):
another show. It was in Vegas that canceled the show,
and everybody was making a big stink about it. What
big singer? I forgot her? Oh wait, hold on, hold,
don't tell me, don't tell me, don't tell me. I'm
gonna guess this because we were going through this last week.
Um oh, it's not Seline Dion, is it. No? I'll
give you a hint though, she Uh, let's see, how
can I say it? She? She came out looking way
(01:44:55):
thin after COVID Britney spears, No, who is it? I'm
over to dang it because someone made a joke that
involved um Iowa hitting as many shots as Adele's done
shows in her Vegas state, so I was like, oh,
so then I had to read up on Yes. Yes,
(01:45:16):
she got a lot of grief for that too, didn't she.
Or well, yeah, look at me, I'm so hip. I
should be a host to get her tap it tonight.
You and Kevin Fraser somebody friends meeting Kevin very tight? Okay,
well hold off of the story because the Sagra has
one more update and he comes sliding in to get
us back to sports and on topic. What's going on?
Steve the Standard? The night I came across from a
(01:45:37):
White Sox producer, the day Vince McMahon was born, Bob
Veller struck out twelve batters. I love that. It's the
same day. I hate you guys. Bad news for the
White Sox today is picture Lancelin. We'll miss about two months.
(01:46:00):
All have knee surgery for a torn tendon. The Padres
acquired lefty pitcher Sean Manaia from the A's and then
he pitched against the A's at spring training today at
four strikeouts in about four innings, the guy who was
top ten and strikeouts in the a L last season.
The Padres new manager is Bob Melvin, who just came
from Oakland. This year, the A's continue to trade away players.
You know, there are guys like Max Scherzer that make
(01:46:21):
more money this one year than the whole payroll currently
of the Oakland a MLB Networks had said the A's
had the highest payroll in in all of baseball that year.
It was thirty three million dollars. And that's the very
same number of the eighth Day. It's Conseco McGuire, but
(01:46:41):
literally they've come back to that number. That's how low
the A's payroll is. So good luck. New manager The
Orioles traded two relievers to Miami, including Cool Sulser. In
a spring training game, Mets pitcher Chris Bassett X of
Oakland four runs allowed in five innings, but got the
win against Miami. Robinson Canoe went or for four. Sonny
(01:47:02):
Sonny Gray, Yeah, maybe you could pitch for them the
way things are going. Sonny Gray and his twins debut
pitch four scoreless inning, six strikeouts, no walks, beat the
Orioles Miguel sooah homer and three r b I s
the Phillies Aaron Nola five and a third innings pitch
nine strikeouts, just one run one hit allowed, and then
Philly held on for a nine eight exhibition win over
Detroit Bryce Harper with two homers. The Dodgers were in
(01:47:24):
Anaheim tonight. New Dodger first baseman Freddie Freeman, who grew
up near Anaheim, was out this evening due to illness.
Shohyotany at a solo homer. Angels beat Walker Bueller and
l a five to one. Bueller allowed three homers in
his five innings winning pitcher for the Angels, former met
Noah sinder Guard five great innings, one run allowed, seven strikeouts.
(01:47:45):
MLB opening day is Thursday. Most teams have their final
exhibition game on Tuesday. Triple A schedule starts on Tuesday.
By the way, Denny Hamlin took the NASCAR race at Richmond.
Kevin Harvick finished second. Next weekend's NASCAR is this Saturday
night on FS and at Martinsville, also in Virginia, about
three hours drive from Richmond. J J. Spawn when the
(01:48:05):
Texas opened his first PGA Tour victory. He earns about
one and a half million dollars and an entry into
the Masters that starts this Thursday. Tiger Woods is there
at Augusta, he calls himself a game time decision. This
would be woods first official tournament since his single car
accident in February of one, which damaged his right leg.
(01:48:25):
In tennis, there's a new number one tomorrow, Egles Friantech
from Poland, and she's withdrawn from this week's event in Charleston.
She has won seventeen straight matches. The woman who was
number one in the world ash Party just retired. In
the NBA, The Clippers one against New Orleans, so the
Clips clinch eighth place in the West or to play
in chances. The NBA regular season ends a week from tonight.
(01:48:48):
Lakers are just about done. They lost their sixth game
in a row to Denver today, although Anthony Davis did
have twenty eight points despite the bed foot Lebron James
did not play due to his ankle injury. Lakers will
play at Phoenix in Golden State this week. San Antonio,
winner tonight over a Portland's team that's lost seven in
a row, spurs two games up on the Lakers for
the final play in spot, and San Antonio owns the
(01:49:10):
tiebreaker of our l A just like New Orleans does.
Philadelphia one at Cleveland Joel and beat forty four points.
And yes, we have the college basketball men's Tournament coming
to a conclusion tomorrow night with Kansas against North Carolina.
The tar Heel's top score and rebounder, Armando Baycott says
he will play in this game tomorrow despite the sprained
(01:49:30):
ankle from last night. He had twenty one rebounds against
Duke last night and twenty two rebounds the game before
against St. Peter's. Auburn. Seven footer Walker Kessler declared for
the NBA Draft. He was the National Defensive Player of
the Year. Butler's new head coach that Modo X of
Ohio State and the women's championship goes to number one
ranks South Carolina whipping yukon forty nine. Back to you,
(01:49:53):
Thanks Steve. Have a great week. Budding all night long.
I keep mentioning this. The tweets have really good tonight.
The funny part of this is that one person mentions
a what if X, I said actor musician canceled? The
other side that sucks. Why would you go to that concert?
For instance, Uh, Justin was getting on fans of country music.
(01:50:18):
Then Jeremy says, Dave Matthews hasn't been relevant in twenty years.
He could cancel all of his shows and no one
would even notice. Why why does it turn into a
fight over whose music is? Go to? News isn't? Can't
we all just have peace and love? Like Jeremiah who
writes Arnie, you should really get to a concert, even
if it's just one. Go see a band July. It's
(01:50:38):
different these days. A feeling of nothing else matters takes
over for three hours. I feel the same way to
sporting event or whenever my family says let's go to Target.
I'm like for three hours. So it's been a more
a while for you to Um. I did see Ronny
James Dio and and then one of my fraternity brothers,
Kingsley Whipple. Um, we want to go see the Grateful Dead,
(01:51:02):
but I didn't go in. I said I'm not going in.
It's not for me. So your last concert was May
he rest in peace? Ronnie James Dio? Is that? What?
Is he dead? He died passed away like eleven years ago.
I didn't know. I'm sorry, so we really have to
go back. Not only not, why are you sorry you
attended his concert? I did wear I did wear spikes
(01:51:23):
on my wrist though for that concert. Okay, the visual
of Arnie Spaniard with probably tony tail and the spiked
wrist band. Things just on the left for us though,
you know, black leather jacket, the whole nine yards. It's
just a rock star is I don't even know if
I had an eyeliner on. I can't even be sure.
(01:51:44):
I don't know if you're being facetious or not. But
if I can find a picture, I'll send it to you. Okay,
Pete Libby hits us up and right. I don't think
coach Ka comes back, Arnie. If you look at him
on the sideline the entire game, he is truly enjoying
himself late. Okay, so wait a minute. You don't think
he comes back, but he's enjoying himself. I said, yeah.
(01:52:07):
I said, now we're number one that maybe coach k
does a Calhoun um and comes back and coaches um
a lesser team, you know, a smaller named team, smaller branding,
and just kind of has a little fun with that.
I don't know if that's possible, but um, I can
certainly see that. Where, by the way, is he going
to retire in in North Carolina. Is that where he's
(01:52:27):
gonna stay or is he gonna go somewhere else? I
believe so. I think he is. I think he his
of course retirement press conference started weird when they came
in and started dancing before the season began. But yeah,
I don't know, but Pete does add And by the way,
good show context, Arny. Going back to your take that
you think he might not be done. He was loose
(01:52:47):
and even getting the crowd going. A person like him
only does that when they're at peace with a decision.
He was usually pretty subdued on the sidelines, unless he
was yelling at his guys, but he was all over
it last. He might be a piece right now, get
back to him in two months from now the piece. Uh.
And then one more quick one here This is from
JP who takes us back to the NFL. We haven't.
(01:53:09):
We were talking about Denver and its number earlier this game,
earlier this show, and JP rights. You have to feel
sorry for a guy like Vick Fangio. In his third year,
he builds up the Broncos defense to one of the
best in the NFL, but he was given Truelock and
Teddy Bridgewater for his quarterbacks. He gets fired and they
trade for Russell Wilson. You can say, sitting for Brian
(01:53:30):
Floor as you know here he is, you have to
deal with the rookie quarterback. All of a sudden you
get fired, and now they trade for Tyreek Hill. They
get themselves running backs, They make sure up at the
offensive line, and who knows one of the moves they'll make,
you know? And then I said one more. But then
this is good for Matt because it kind of counters
that mindset that many have had with coach K truly
(01:53:51):
being done. Matt writes, I think coach K pulls it,
Tom Brady. How can he go out with a loss
like that to his our tribal No, he's not gonna
come back and play, you know, our coach and a
big I don't think a big time program and he's
not coming back to Duke so um, I think again,
it has to be one of those small programs. If okay,
can we play what if real quick before the break?
(01:54:13):
What if he goes to to to Shire, he goes
to the e D There I hit my microphone making
this point. It's so sale it. But what if he
goes to them Marty and says coach k I want
one more year. I can't have it in like that.
You say yes right right out of the way of
I mean, there's a part of me that wouldn't be
(01:54:35):
surprised at all. I mean, how many times has Jim
um Beeheim supposedly retired. I mean, I feel like we've
had rocking share tours for Beheid for like the last
fifteen years. Year up, yeah, and then I look up
and like, hey, Jim Bayheim still at Syracuse. So I
wouldn't be surprised if he does all right when we
come back. Final thoughts with Artie's picks to take to
(01:54:57):
take us home on a Sunday night into a Monday
on Fox Sports Radio. Final segment for us Big Ben
coming in next Fox Sports Radio. Have fun fast show tonight,
Great job by Bobo on the wheels of Still great
job is always by Danny G. Steve to say you're
awesome updates and the millions and millions of editors behind
(01:55:21):
the scene producing the great sound that I did not
use enough of tonight. So with that said, I have
two quick stories, but as always, we kick off our
final segment with what everyone came for tonight Arnie's picks.
Take it away, stinking genius. Let's get at it. Give
me a little music, put me in the mood as
we start things off. I do want to say, I
(01:55:44):
do want to say, even though things aren't looking so
great for the Mets right now that season I have
been started yet, they'll be just fine. They'll still with
the division. They I'm not gonna give World Series predictions
or anything like that. I mean, nobody's in the baseball
nobody's getting You don't take the Mets every year to
win the World Series like you did the Dolphins to
(01:56:05):
win the Super Bowl. It's with my Mets. Are my Dodgers,
Oh gosh, don't put that on them, Ricky, Bobby. I
will tell you that the Dolphins are playing the Rams
and the Super Bowl. Can I give you my Super
Bowl pick? You don't want to give a World Series pick,
but you'll give your Super Bowl pick. I'm a hundred
percent sure on the Super Bowl pick. Well one, Well,
(01:56:30):
maybe the Rams don't make it, but you're one d
P on the Dolphins one. Okay. That's why I'm going
to the Super Bowl this year to see my Dolphins play.
I gotta get used to this every single week in
this soft season, every single week. The seven seconds left
in the championship game and Kansas has an eight lead,
(01:56:51):
but North Carolina has the ball time writing down the
balls going around. They pass it and they shoot the
three head edds good. They win eight three two. So
take North Carolina plus the four and take the over
one fifty two. They win it eight two breaking new. Well.
(01:57:11):
I don't have any inside info, but I will tell
you this. Tiger Woods will play in the Masters, and
it'll be in contention after the first two days. Well,
if he is, it'll break all the ratings records for golf,
that's for sure. The Lakers are done. So and thank
you to everybody that wished be a happy birthday. Certainly overwhelming.
(01:57:35):
I do appreciate it, love y'all. I've been doing the
show here with Plank uh what over a minion years,
So thank you to everyone that wished me a happy birthday.
So there you got my picks too. With him, as
it please, no longer strictly for entertainment purposes only. This
is um the part of the show. Gimme, gimme, gimme.
(01:57:57):
When on he goes to Facebook and as soon is
the clock strikes midnight, he'll put something like, thanks to
those who wished me. I answered everybody, okay, all right,
because come on, come on, you're you're good a dad.
I just I like to subtle shots whenever I'll see
someone that I didn't say happy birthday too, and they'll
put up for those who wished to be happy birthday,
(01:58:19):
youre likely to this and say happy birthday. Sorry about that,
all right? Two stories before we get out of here.
You know me, I love schedule talk, and NFL schedule
talk is coming up right. We're gonna be in the
midst of it over the next few weeks. Peter King
theorizes that the NFL, for Amazon's first Thursday night game,
(01:58:40):
want to make it a huge matchup. They want to
obviously impress Jeff Bezos. They want him to buy Washington
and they're going to give him a big time matchup.
But that means you're already kind of theorizing who's going
to play opening weekend in the Thursday night Super Bowl
winner gets its ring game right to start the season.
Here's the theory from Peter King. He projects the Rams
(01:59:03):
and the Broncos at so far to be the Thursday
night opener, and maybe maybe a chance it could be
the Rams and and Buffalo, maybe the Rams in San Francisco.
But he thinks by week two they're gonna have a
massive game in week two on Thursday night, maybe even
Kansas City in Denver as early as week number two
(01:59:27):
to try because audience the first game we've excluded out.
I don't want to say first ever, one of like
two or three that's exclusively on an app. The only
way you can get it is Amazon. Right now, who
gets to pick that Thursday game? Do they have some
of the say in it? Is there like a choice
of two three games? Isn't strictly the NFL? How's that
going to work? You know? It's it's supposed to be
(01:59:47):
the NFL, right, it's supposed to be the NFL that says, hey,
here's your matchup, and they they get a pick, you know,
here's the matchups in these time slots, and they can
they can pick um again. I wonder if Jeff Bezos
went to him and said, listen, I would really like
on a Thursday night for us to open in week
(02:00:08):
two for Amazon with the Patrick Mahomes game. And who's
to say that maybe the NFL doesn't look at and say,
you bet you got it. Um, you get one of
the biggest early season games. Chief Broncos and Artie you
said you thoroughly expect and and are convinced that Tiger
is playing in the Masters. How close does he cut
it when he says game time decision? When do you
(02:00:30):
think we find out he's playing? I think we find
out he's playing. Um, tomorrow, Oh tomorrow, let's go. Let's go.
All right, We'll have a great week. Happy birthday already
it was. It was fun to hang out on your
birthday with you tonight for Bobo, for Steve, to Seger,
for Danny g for Arnie span Your I'm Chris Plank.
(02:00:51):
Stick around because coming up next, Big Ben Mallard has
you covered until six a Eastern. We'll be back next
Sunday night. Enjoy the National Championship, Sarni and Plank on
five
