Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh let's go, Arnie,
let's go. As we come to your life and the
guy coed Fox Sports Radio Studios, where fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. All
you have to do is visit guy dot com for
a free rate quote. I'm kind of surprised that you're
(00:21):
here tonight, Arenie, after your Patriots lost? Are you going
to be okay? We just stopped with that peloni, which
just you know, I was about to say, today's like
the day like everybody goes to the prom, and you
know you weren't going to. The problem is you couldn't
get a date. So you're so you're like, uh, you're
sitting at home and you maybe playing a video game,
(00:42):
we're watching some stupid movie while everybody's having a good time.
And now you feel that, you know, everybody's in the playoffs,
and you're like, damn if if the Dolphins just could
have been a little bit better than giants, gonna well,
forget about the Giants, but I just miss out on
the playoffs. I want some playoffs. And then lo and behold,
Arnie gets the gift that keeps given all year long.
(01:05):
Congratulations after projecting it for the better part of every
single year that we've done this show together, after calling
for the end of the Patriots slash Belichick Brady dynasty
for the better part of maybe every minute since they
won their first Super Bowl, Artie, it looks like it
looks like your prediction has finally come true. Take your victory, lap.
(01:28):
I mean seven years of of making the same prediction.
Year eight, it finally comes true. Uh and not it
looks like it is. It's ov e r. It's done
so uh for the Patriots and the Patriot fans. How
how have things been in the region. Has it been morning?
Has it been dark? Dreary, cloudy, nasty? Everyone just kind
(01:51):
of a factory of sadness after last night in New England.
Arny in the New England area. What helped me out here?
What's the name of the Tom Cruise football movie? Yea,
all the right moves were at the beginning of the movie.
They're all pointing the finger at all each other. Well,
we would have been down there if you didn't commit
the penalty, and if we would have done if you
would have fubbled the ball, and we would have fubbled
(02:12):
if you would have the quarterback just take a knee
and blah blah blah. Everybody's that's what they're doing here.
Every everybody's pointing the figure. It's Dob Brady is getting
too old. Belichick should have got it more help. Why
didn't we have another wide receiver? What about the offensive
line problems? Blah blah blah blah by everybody pointing the
finger at everybody down here. So, in other words, good
times for you. It's what you're saying, right, of course, Well,
(02:34):
we'll get into it, and I and I think at
some point, and I hope at some point last night
becomes a little bit more about what the Titans did,
and more specifically, Derrick Henry and Mike Rabel. I doubted
if I would have told you that they would have
seventy five yards passing, you would have thought they'd lose
thirty four to ten. Honestly, I will not lie to you.
(02:54):
At one point last night, as as I was watching
this go down, I literally thought to myself, I don't
think Ryan Tannehill's completed a pass yet. So it was
legit through about three or four offensive series from about
the second quarter midway through our Sorry the first quarter
midway through the second quarter. I mean, the dude had
(03:14):
to be like two of ten. But to to think
that you would end up with those kind of passing numbers, Arn'tie,
and that New England would have the opportunities that they
did in the red zone early and late night. Guess
blows my mind to see it end like that. And
then you have the crazy comeback and you thought to
you with Houston earlier in the day, and you thought
to yourself, man, it's gonna be It's gonna be really
(03:36):
hard to top the two games from Saturday that Aaron
and Arnie got to talk about last night. But oh boy,
did we kind of use the over the top grip
to to get a little intrigue involving New York. You
know what I'm talking about peeves officiating, because both games
today had a little bit of a of an officiating
flare to them. Let's start with the early game Saints Vikings.
(03:58):
You surprised, are you were surprised as I am right
now that the Purple people either are moving on? No,
I'm not surprised, well, a little surprised. I did say
it was gonna be a three point game, and um,
I thought the Vikings had a good chance at the upset.
Everybody was pointing at the did you see Kirk Cousins? Oh,
and seventeen in the playoffs are owned seventeen against teams
(04:19):
that have twelve wins or more. And I'm sitting to myself, well,
those are good teams. What do you? What do you?
What do you? What kind of record do you want
him to have against teams that have twelve or thirteen wins? Look,
I always said, you know, if the Saints don't put
up thirty plus points, this is gonna be anybody's game.
I didn't know it was gonna be twenty twenty. Going
into overtime, the Vikings defense came up big. Saints offense
(04:41):
sputtered at times. They really um allowed the Vikings to
get out to the leader. I thought the Saints missed
some golden opportunities. Um, when it was said and done
going into overtime, that wasn't offensive past interference. If that's
the next thing you're going to ask me, I'm glad
there was a no call. Could you imagine if they
would have called the offensive in a arans and they
would have brought that one back, that would have been outrageous,
(05:03):
but Vikings played a good game. Good for cousins. Um,
you like that is that what he says? You like,
that's what he said. Where did you even think that
it was something worth reviewing on that final play? Because
I didn't. And I was blown away because naturally, after
the Seahawks game wrapped up and in Seattle moved on,
(05:24):
I flipped over to the Four Letter Network and they
they have one of their hosts with an officiating expert
that are blasting the fact that they didn't review it.
And I thought to myself, all right, is this like
an act to get people all fired up? Because honestly,
outside of fans that have the Florida Lee and that
(05:44):
their die hard Saint fans, I don't think anybody looked
at that and thought, oh, offensive past interference, they need
to review it. The dude never look back for the ball.
I like, this is how stupid the debate became. Rnie,
we're debating, well, you know, he was a little bit
of a skinnier guy, so if you touch him that
would affect it. I thought, I'm listening to you. I
(06:04):
I think Lewis Riddick is a stud, a stud, and
he's sitting there to well, I saw his body flail back. Yeah,
I would too if I got beat. I would never
I wouldn't have just too bad. So I think it's
one of the more ridiculous created stories because I'm sorry,
I've watched football this year pass interference on reviews that
(06:28):
hasn't been granted. Let me think the entire season aren't.
So why did that even become a conversation or an
issue that was a dime? Dude, got beat, take your medicine.
Move on. Three tough ways to be eliminated the last
three season for the Saints. You didn't have it period
in the discussion. I would have had no problem if
they would have reviewed it. If they want to go
and double check out. First of all, I thought all
(06:49):
scoring players are reviewed anyway. But is that just to
see his feet are in that doesn't count offensive past interference?
Um whatever. If they wanted to review it, I'm fine.
I was getting nervous that they were going to overturn it,
and then I'm like, no, no, no, you can't do
something like that. Hey, I'm not gonna say it was
incidental contact. He pushed him, He pushed back, a little separation.
(07:10):
He had his hands on the receiver after two yards.
So I mean, come on, we're gonna start calling everything
in the NFL. You can't do that. We we won't
have a game if you start doing that. Yeah. I
just it was hilarious to me because again, when they
decided not to go in depth on the review, when
(07:30):
they said, hey, we looked at it and it wasn't
egregious it it wasn't passing interfairs, I thought to myself, good,
I don't think there's any drama here, and I don't
get people that think there is unless you're a Saints fan.
If you're a Saints fan, you got every reason. You
got every reason to be fired up and angry about this, right, sure,
go for it you And it's probably Arnie the snowball
(07:54):
of frustration because you go back the last three years
now man for New Orleans, and it feels good to
get to this point. Right, But first of all, you
have the Minnesota miracle, amazing finish, right Stefon dig last second.
Last year, you had what led to pass interference being
a reviewable play that sent the Rams to the Super Bowl.
(08:16):
This year. I mean, I'm sorry, I can't think of
any other way to put it, but the Vikings dominated
the Saints today. I mean, the New Orleans makes a
mistake late in the first half, which I've never I've
always been a fan of this when I'm playing Madden, Arnie,
when you try to rush before the two minute warning
and get a playoff, and Drew Breves makes a bad decision.
(08:37):
They turned the ball over a couple of times. I mean,
it's just they they made the mistakes that they hadn't
typically made. And it also is an interesting trend too,
because the Saints played their guys. They have been playing
well down the stretch and they get beat at home.
And I know you sat in for Jason Smith and
my carm in this past week. I had a chance
to sit in for Ben Mallard, and I don't think
(08:58):
there was a single person that's off. The team that
had the best chance to advance today might have been
the Vikings. Right, we all thought the Saints are gonna
move on. It's gonna be a hell of a game
next week between New Orleans and Green Bay. Not a
lot of people believe in Green Bay anyway, the Saints
might be the better team, and boom. It just shows
you the sudden nature of the National Football League where
they're done and Kirk Cousins already had his shining moment finally. Okay,
(09:20):
well one, you're fired because there were two people that
thought it was gonna be the Minnesota Vikings. One of
them are phenomenal boss Scott Shapiro. So the fact that
you're throwing him under the bus like that, I can't
be a part of that. I'm sorry, Plague. So of
course he's he's in Minnesota fan and my brother who
put two hundred hours at the beginning of the season
on Minnesota at at eighteen to one. So those those
(09:42):
are the two right now that that thought Minnesota could
do it. Yeah, outside of Scott Shapiro and you know
your brother who has been on the record talking about
this all season long. You're right, there's two people. So
that was the officiating drama from Game one Game two.
I thought Brady Quinn did a great job in the
show leading into ours with Jonas Knocks talking about why
they didn't throw the flag for the personal foul and
(10:04):
the hit by Jadeveon Clowney On Carson wentz, Yeah, it
was brutal. Yeah, it was a tough thing to watch. Yes,
it took Carson Wentz out of the game. But if
he slides feet first, which is so hot to me,
jeneveon Clowney is is in trouble and it's a personal foul.
But because he went head first and didn't give up
his body, Arnie, it's an okay hit. I was got
a little bit perplexed by that. Late. I'm not so
(10:24):
sure it isn't okay hit. Um. You know you look
at it again and look, do you think it was
maybe a little bit later? Am I looking at that too?
So many times in so motion now I can't even
get a good perspective. I think you've had that thing
because I'm the same way, man, I I feel the
same way. That thing has been so slowed. Uh, and
you've seen it so many different It's a brutal hit,
(10:45):
don't get me wrong. And again we have that benefit
of that. Would you be would you be upset? Would
you have been like leading the show going, Oh my goodness,
I can't believe they call the flag on a light
hit or something like that. No, you you wouldn't even
have thought twice if they were to have called the
penalty that we would move on and say it was okay,
worth it and then knocked him out of the game.
Let's move on. Yeah, no, absolutely, you're right, uh, And
(11:07):
we would have moved on. You would have had a penalty,
game would have played, and I don't think there would
have been much more to it. I mean, the fact
that we're still debating that is interesting to me because
I don't think a foul there affects the outcome of
the game, do you. I mean, yeah, it sucks that
he was out of the game, but a penalty there,
I don't know if that's something worth overly debating, and
(11:29):
I don't think we really are. I just think they
got that pool report from the official because I think
you finally reached a point in Philadelphia, and I feel
bad for Eagles fans and I don't know why, but
they as beat up as they had been all season long.
Isn't it only fitting that you have to injure season
with the guy that you signed, what three four games
into the season as your quarterback trying to lead you
to the to the next level and Artie Artie Josh
(11:52):
McCowen hadn't even completed a pass in the playoffs in
his career. He's never been in there. He's never been
in the playoffs, has he He's ever played in one.
He's never played, He's never completed a pass, He's never
played in the playoffs. He makes his playoff debut whenever
you can even see it, whenever Carson Wentz was over there,
a little bit shaky in his mind, he's thinking, oh boy,
here we go. I mean, who was it? Was it
Sonny Jerkinson who hadn't completed a pass in the playoffs
(12:15):
until after he was forty. I mean, think about that.
That's that's wild. But overall, I thought we had a
great first four games, and we had a hun day
today as well. Then could you could you imagine if
Nick Foles was still on the team and he came
into rally phil Philadelphia to the victory. Oh my goodness,
I'm sure there's people if I had a nickel for
(12:37):
every time his name must be coming up in Philadelphia
sports talk, I'd be a rich guy tonight, that's for sure. Well,
and they had a really good backup. They have a
really good backup in Nate Suttlefield. But he got hurt.
So when you have a good backup and then you've
got to really go back to the well to find
someone else that had to be a challenge. But man,
I I gotta give Doug Peterson and that crew credit.
They fought and it's just the injuries became too much.
(13:00):
And here's a lesson. And I know we got a break.
And I'm not trying to go draft talk on you already,
but when they here we go. When they talk about
prototypical size for a quarterback, Arnie is Carson Wentz not
it right? They talk about prototypical body, They talk about
the guy six four able to move. Guess what he
hasn't been able to do through the majority of his
(13:20):
career stay healthy, healthy. So it just shows you how
crazy sometimes certain things appear to be. And then what
plays out. You would ask any GM on the planet,
and that's the dude, right that that body type strong,
can run, never been hurt in college, didn't miss a
game in high school. Then he gets to the NFL
and what is it now the third season essentially, and
(13:43):
this was the one where he had somewhat stayed healthy.
But oh my gosh, Arnie, I mean, for the Eagles,
you just as much as this is about the teams
that are moving on today, for Philadelphia, they just gotta
feel gut punched in in Eagle Nation tonight. Yeah. Well,
people are gonna say, well, you know what, it was
still a good run. We've had injuries. Uh, we didn't
expect to win it, so and now look what happened
(14:04):
when Wentz went down. I think Eagle fans are are
coming to the grips that it wasn't that big of
a thing. But when you look at their future and
not looking so great, Oh it's not, is it. In fact,
coming up later on the show, Artie, of the four
teams that were eliminated today, we're gonna debate who's got
the best chance to be back because the turnover is
crazy in the National Football League. In fact, of the
(14:25):
final eight teams we have, only one is carried over
from last year, so we'll dive into that, plus Arnie's
picks coming up. We're gonna get the championship game figured
out later on tonight here on Fox Sports Radio. And
when we come back to the guy called Fox Sports
Radio Studios, we'll kick it off with one of our experts,
Great Mind, recapping all the games. John Middlecoff joins us.
(14:45):
It's Arnie and Plank on Fox Sports Radio. It's Arnie
and Plank on Fox Sports Radio the Final Latest Set.
So let's get some great perspective from a great football mind.
You listen to him on the three and Out podcast,
part of the Herd Podcast Network. Former NFL scout Bay
Are you Guru? John Middlecloff is in the house. John,
help me with the controversy slash drama about whether or
(15:07):
not that should have been reviewed? Did you do you
think the officials got it right in the Vikings Saints
game at the end. Yeah, I'm with you. I was
taking up dinner and listen you guys talk about it.
It's not It's not a story to me. I mean,
it was just a normal football play they got I don't.
I'm unbothered by it. I mean, that's not after you appearance.
It's it's nothing like last year. Was the thing? Right
(15:30):
to play two years ago was crazy now but the
players screwed up. But this is not a thing like this. Hey, John,
you like that? How about Cousins? Um, let's give him
a little bit of credit. I winn like this can certainly.
I mean that's the kind of you know, getting over
the hump he needs, man, I mean, the oh and
(15:50):
fifteen against this and winning on prime time, and if
anybody needed a win worse than than him, I don't
know who it was. He needed this one in the
worst way. I mean, he was shaking early. They just
rode the running back as they should. He's probably the best,
he's the best player on offense for sure. And then
even late, you know, you weren't feeling great and he
(16:11):
skipped the path late, but you know, you make passes
like that in overtime, the one he hit deeling and
then anytime you have a walk off, cutdown pass, what
can you say? He got the job done. They paid
him a lot of money to They were a huge underdog.
I actually think more of the story though, of that
game is Drew Brees kind of laying an egg and
(16:31):
Shawn Seaton being bad more than even Cousins, because it's
not like Cousins group of four under yards. You know,
I don't this is not He wasn't Joe Montana or
anything today. Breeze and the Saint for We're horrendous the
majority of the day. They you know, for a team
that I thought, if you were doing rankings on the season, right,
you know, you put the Ravens one the night or
(16:52):
two and really would be like to b would be
the Saints because that game with a coin flips and
they played today like a pretty average team. And in
the playoffs it comes back to bikeing and they got
beat because they were just they look flat. To me,
they just someone was off and there. If you've watched
them all season, they were so good, they did everything well,
(17:13):
and it's just bizarre. Even last week. I mean, they
killed the I know it the Panthers, but they were
just rolling. They looked fanta and today to just be
so out of it now, maybe you know, he gives Zimmer,
who's the defensive coordinator obviously am Haad coach and the
defense their defense credit. But man the ship, John Payton
and Drew Brees, what do they make a combined about
(17:34):
forty five million dollars who lose like today? With that?
You know, it's it's wild, John, Because here we are,
we're twenty four minutes into the show and we haven't
yet talked about Jerry Jones trying to steal some headlines.
Timing seems odd, but I mean just it seems like
the ultimate Jerry Jones thing to do. To release this
in the middle of an Eagles playoff game, but Cowboys
(17:56):
had to make the move. What do you see the
next step for Dallas? Now that's a good question. You know,
if you look at his history, he hasn't done a
quote unquote splashy higher. You know, even when he when
he hired Parcels, its memory serves me correctly, Parcels out
of the NFL for a year or two. Right, it
wasn't just a smooth transition to another job. I could
(18:17):
be wrong on that, but it was older. You know.
He had done the chan Gailey's and then the way
fill ups and even Jason Garrett, who was you know,
a sexier named ten years ago. But I don't know.
You don't think his history says one way or the other.
You know, he could go the easy route and Mike McCarthy,
you know, clearly wouldn't turn that job down. He could
(18:38):
take a much riskier route. To me, would be more
than Lincoln Riley, would be Urban Meyer. I think that'd
be the biggest risk and highest reward. Maybe he kind
of gets lightning in a bottle again with Jimmy Johnson,
But I I you know, I have no feel I
couldn't even give you an educated guest because I think
Jerry really is a great Just look at the way
he handled Jason Garrett. I think he's the greatest wild
(19:01):
guard in the NFL right now. You just don't know
what you're getting. John finished the sentence. Carson Wentz is
a you know, good player that just kind of has
some unlucky breaks. I guess you know he I felt
bad today because he had played so well down the stretch,
(19:22):
and it would be one thing if he had like
an injury that he sustained on his own right, like
a palm string, broke his arm diving four a ball.
This was a pretty freaky head injury, you know where
I don't necessarily think it was dirty. I think this,
you know, real time bang bang play. You know you'd
probably lean maybe dirty then in more clean. But yeah,
(19:44):
just a freak deal that sucks. Now would they have
one with him? I don't, you know. McCown wasn't terrible,
but god, you you're talking about a guy now that
Eagles fifth playoff game in the last three years, and
he's thrown for a total of three yards. It just you, guys.
You guys watched this baby longer me. Has that ever
happened to a guy like this, you know, this early
(20:06):
into his career, and just I don't even know what
to say anymore. I wish you would have been a smartass,
John and said whenever Arnie asked that, said Carson Wentz
as a quarterback for the Eagles. That would have been
the ultimate troll job you could have Nie, That would
have been a good one. So I'm curious on Seattle.
So I was all jazzed about a Seahawks Niners rematch.
I thought it was coming, and then you know, the
(20:27):
Vikings kind of ruined the day. But I mean, is
it wild to think that that could still be our
NFC championship matchup? Because man, I know it's not pretty,
but I'm kind of digging how the Seahawks have been
playing and how they're winning games. I'm officially done saying
they're not gonna win. I'm not saying I'm gonna pick
I'm not saying I'm gonna pick them to win games,
but I'm not going to pick them the loose because
(20:49):
every one of their games looks the same. The scores change,
but the look of the game looks the same. It's
always a one score game, second half, back and forth.
Russell doesn't make things. They all look the same. The
scores change, the type of games is not. And one
thing you learned when you watch them play is they
(21:09):
know how to win games like that. So they're unaf
phased by just the weirdness of these games they play in.
Even maccown like he's like showing life making some passes
like can the Eagles really pull this off? No, because
Seattle just knows how to win this thing. I will
give Seattle credit. You know what, what was the third
and five or whatever that final with the Eagles had
(21:30):
their free time out and they have one left and
they went for the kill shot and they hit it
and they hit it perfectly. And so you know, Pete
Carroll gets crushed sometimes Twitter loves back and whack he's
an idiot. I think it's Pete and Russell and their
their staff know what they're doing. John, you want to
shovel some dirt on the Patriots grave. And and Tom
Brady will end up playing next year. But where is
(21:51):
he going to play? It doesn't sound like he's coming
back to the Patriots enough to hearing what Belichick had
to say, It doesn't sound like he wants him back. Yeah,
just are you gonna go? You know, where's he gonna go?
And is he just going from somewhere for a money grab,
like let's say the Raiders offering forty million dollars a
year for a couple of years. He's really gonna go
play for the Raiders? What about the Chargers? But he's
(22:14):
gonna go play for Dean Spanos now money talks, and
he has nothing left to accomplish his resume. He just
couldn't be any more full, right, But I just close
your eyes and envision him playing for the Chargers. Now
their roster is not bad, but he's gonna go from
Belichick and McDaniels to Anthony Lynn. I don't know. I
(22:36):
just that's the other element he's think about the two
like the three main coaches he's had his whole career, Belichick, McDaniels,
Bill O'Brien and then McDaniels again. And he's just gonna
go play for some random coaching. You gonna let them
force in the retirement because that's the only other option.
Then if they don't, what are they gonna what If
(22:57):
he's like, they're just gonna let him walk, then may
they do? Maybe they course their hands like Bill Belichick
just says I'm not gonna pay him, but Robert Crafts
canna allow Bill to do that. That to me, there
are a lot of variables like this isn't This is
the one player that Bill can't just say I'm over
because of the owner. And they've allowed him do that
with every other player from Logan Mankins, that, Richard Seymour
(23:19):
to Brandy you name it, every single player except this guy.
And rightfully so like last to me, Brady didn't lose
in the game last night. Their receivers were terrible. The
running game has been pretty average. Now, Brady hadn't played
well in previous games, but I thought last night he
was not the problem. But he is. He is forty
(23:39):
three years old, so I don't even blame Belichick for
wanting to move on. But it is Tom Brady and
he's still playing pretty well. Hey, John, real quick before
we let you go. Is it gonna be as wild
as it seems it's gonna be? With the quarterbacks that
could be out there, I mean, Drew Brees could technically
go somewhere else. So I think the report was he
was And obviously you and already talked about Brady but
(24:00):
Ridgewater amongst some of that, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, is it,
Philip Rivers, River Cam Newton could get cut. Let's say
josh Va Daniels takes Carolina cut him. Yeah, it could
be pretty crazy. But who needs quarterbacks, right? The Patriots
would if Brady left, the Chargers would, if Rivers left,
the Safe would, if Breeze. So there's a domino effect
(24:23):
that these guys don't all return, and for the first
time haven't been in the league. You're always like, oh,
free agency and that everyone gets franchised. It kind of
feels like that's not gonna happen. Definitely with Rivers, and
you could say probably, I think Breeds are I mean Brady,
they they're not even allowed to. Andy Dalton is surely
going to be released. Not that he's great, but he's
(24:44):
not terrible either. So yeah, I think honestly, the guy
I feel most confident probably gonna be back would be Jamie.
You know Jas, He's probably gonna be back with Damper,
There's there's always Eli. Could you imagine Eli going to
the Patriots? Oh my, oh my gosh. What if what
if Tom goes somewhere with the elis backup fantastic. The
(25:07):
three podcast will drop first thing Tuesday morning. John Middlecloff,
thanks for your time, buddy. We always appreciate you coming on.

the Eagles seventeen to nine. Seattle had one at Philadelphia
in late November and the final score was seventeen to nine.
And in that game they had the now injured running
backs Rashad Penny and Chris Carson. Except for Russell Wilson.
They had no running games and they still won on
(25:48):
the road. Wilson three five yards passing as well. Quarterback
Carson went to the Eagles left early with a head
injury after the helmet to helmet hit. You mentioned Josh
McCown making his postseason debut at age forty. That's the
first in NFL history. McCown sacked six times and the
Eagles are out Minnesota one in overtime at New Orleans
twenty to twenty. Kyle Rudolph Vikings tight end with the
(26:12):
game winning touchdown reception. It came on the first drive
of ot teammate Adam thieland had seven receptions today for
a hundred twenty nine yards, one fumble, Dalvin Cook two
touchdown runs. So this Saturday, Minnesota plays at San Francisco

Next Sunday, Houston at Kansas City that will be three

conference title games two weeks away, the Cowboys officially parted
ways with coach Jason Garrett. Bears guard Kyle Long retired.
He was a first rounder in or has Long tweeted tonight,
I'm finally stepping away and getting my body right. People
are taking that as a retirement. In the NBA late game,

the Lakers are hosting the Pistons. Lakers guard Avery Bradley
is left with a sprained ankle. He will not return.
Lakers are only up sixty eight on Detroit as they
approach mid third quarter. There's a college basketball game on

Justin Thomas has won Golf Tournament of Champions on the

Thanks buddy, that says Steve Disager. He'll be on updates

the storylines that we've missed here and about ah an

the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, it's easy to say

Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto.
The only hard part figuring out which game is easier.
All right, Arnie, here's the question which game was the
best of the four we have this weekend. The Titans
come from behind overtime went over Buffalo, which had as
(28:02):
many twists and turns that you can imagine, the Titans
ending the Patriots, the wildness of the Vikings going on
the road and beating the Saints, and then of course
the late slugfest between the Eagles and the Seahawks with
Seattle moving on. Of those four, which one did you
see as the best game this weekend? Well, the best
(28:23):
played game was probably the Vikings and the Saints. Um,
you know, because I I thought the Seahawks Eagles was
just about just putrid to watch them. And the Bills.
Texans certainly had their ups and downs. Uh, Texas didn't
play very well in the first half. Bills, you know,
struggled in the second half. I actually loved the Titans Patriots.
Maybe it was the Patriots finally went down, but I'll
(28:43):
say Vikings Saints was probably the best game of the four.
I I would agree with you, I would agree with you,
and I agree a bazillion percent with John Middlecoff and
I touched on this a little bit Arnie in our
first segment, but it shows you, there's no tried in
true way, right because here's the saying. They play all
their starters, they didn't rest them, and they had something
to play for. I mean, let's be honest. If they
(29:04):
won and got to break ahead of them with the
with the Niners or the Packers losing, they're gonna be
the two or maybe even the one seed when it
all shook out. So it made sense for them to
play guys. But Artie, they were humming. I mean, they
were playing good football heading into the playoffs. I I
thought that they had, of all the teams playing in
this opening weekend and wild card weekend, I thought they
(29:25):
had a chance to run the table, to win next
week and then to go win in the conference championship
and go to the damn Super Bowl. What in the
world went wrong today with New Orleans and credit to Minnesota. Yeah,
this was a bad matchup for them. First of all,
Minnesota's loaded offensively. It was just all about whether Cousins
was going to be able to get over the hump
or not. And did anybody really think that Drew Brees
(29:48):
was gonna just have his way with that Minnesota defense. Plus,
by the way, how do you have twenty six completions
for like two hundred yards. What's the last time, I mean,
Drew Brees average just six yards of complete That's that's
not Drew Brees football, that's not stats football. Plus Camara
twenty one yards rushing that that's embarrassing. You can't you
(30:09):
can't have that in the biggest game of the year.
Where was he in this big game? You know p
h RNI preach as a Alvin Kamara fantasy owner this season.
It was quite the roller coaster ride in two thousand
and nineteen. But I'm just this wasn't even that big
for them today, even though he had seven receptions. No,
it was not. Here's one way to look at it,
(30:31):
and I'll and I'll let this point go at some
point here tonight. But the Saints came into today winners
of three straight. In fact, if you want to go back,
they've won six of their last seven games and the
only loss during that stretch was at two point loss
in a forty eight to forty six game against the
San Francisco forty Niners. Right the rolling the Vikings lost
(30:56):
back to back games three of their last five five,
and it scored a combine twenty nine points in those
two losses. Not granted Kirk Cousins in the offense, most
of the starters didn't play in that last game against
the Bears and then went out put the defensive clamps
on shut down the Saints. I'm just it blows. It's
(31:16):
almost as if we've got to take everything we thought
we knew heading into these playoffs aren't and completely wipe
the slate clean heading into Week one. But hey, that's
what it's all about, isn't it. Yeah, you know what,
it's not really who's playing the best football? Though, I
can see what you're saying about the Saints. They they
were just show man. I mean, Drew Brees was on fire, uh,
coming into what the last five or six games, and
(31:39):
I mean, jeezus, I twenty points. Who would have thought
that would have happened. I thought if if the Vikings
were gonna win, it would be like thirty three thirty.
I didn't think they would a low scoring game. I
didn't think the Saints would have trouble scoring and this one,
I I thought maybe it'd be in the high twenties.
But I gotta give the Vikings a lot of credit
on that, you know, and by the way, and to
clarify one thing, Middlecloff was right whenever, as we segue,
(32:03):
when we come back to the Cowboys coaching search, you know,
it became big news today because I guess Jerry wanted
to try to steal some thunder from the Eagles. Maybe,
but still when he hired Bill Parcels, Arnie Parcels hadn't
been a head coach since nineteen and remember he had
taken the general manager's job with the New York Jets
(32:23):
and stayed around for a season after he was their
head coach and had quote unquote retired, So he had
basically been out of football for three years. So good
luck and trying to figure out what Jerry Jones might
do in the other big non playoff story, which will
dive into next you want to jump into it here, Bobar,
Do you want to wait and give your take when
we get back, It's up to you. We'll do it.
We'll do it live and we'll do when we get back.

slash cash back Match. As he typically does, Jay Glazer
broke the news. Jake Blazer here at the NFL on Fox,
A little breaking news. You're Dallas Cowboys have informed Jason
Garrett he is out as head coach of the Dallas
Cowboys official now Dallas Cowboys have moved off from Jason
Garrett as their head coach. Now had again. I don't
(33:29):
think that anyone is surprised by this, Arnie. I think
what's surprising is the process, right and what took so long?
When you know, Jay had the report this morning on
the Fox Show that he was fighting for his job
and he wanted to stay around. Everyone made their Milton
Office space jokes, but just it seemed like an odd
stretch for a couple of days, almost as if they
were they were checking out their options, maybe giving him
(33:52):
a chance. But this was inevitable, right this, you know,
they said, oh, well, he's part of the family, so
they want to let him down easy, or they're showing
him respect. Is this show we can respect to have
him hanging like this for three days? I I'm kind
of like you. I thought, maybe, like, Okay, we'll gonna
see if we can get Sean Payton. If we can't
get John Payton or Lincoln Riley, then we'll just go
ahead and bring back Jason Garrett. I'm really not sure
(34:14):
why it took so many days, but at the end,
it did cost him his job and it was probably
the right thing to do to move on from this
guy after ten years. Now. For those that aren't aware
and haven't paid attention to the show, the man who
was on the wheels of steel on this program are
very on. Bobo is a die hard, lifelong Cowboy fan,
not one of these bandwagon fans. Oh no, so, Bobo,
(34:35):
your thoughts is it a ding dong? The witch is dead?
And are you excited about the next step? I'm always
excited about the next season and the Cowboys fans, just
like I think any football is excited about their next year.
Um about Jason Garrett being gone. I'm trying to see
if I can say this in one word when you
can hear my energy, yes, thank you? Any way, Um,
(35:00):
I don't know if you got the point of how
excided I was. It seems like you're pretty happy about that,
you know. But and then this was what hit me.
I had to actually do a report on this, and
my thing was, yes, Jason Garrett has gone, yes, thank you.
But now what, like, where do we go from here?
Who do we get that's gonna come in and deal
with Jerry Jones personality and his overparenting, you know what
(35:24):
I mean? Like you have to get somebody that's gonna
understand it. If you come in here. The owner is
the GM and it's gonna tell you what to do. Yeah,
and he's gonna pick your coaches for you most likely,
or at least a man that you keep your coaches.
Aren't you AREN'TI was in Dallas during a coaching search, right,
Weren't you in there in the end of the Wade
Phillips era back in Dallas? I was there. Yeah. I
(35:44):
was on the air when they pulled weight and uh
and said don't get back up the team played. We
want to talk to you after the debaccle of the
Green Bay game. Way that you called me up two
or three times, um once the wish be a happy birthday.
But once after that happened to thank me for standing
by him. I thought that was kind of a bad
way to let it go and and move on from there. Remember,
Jason Garrett was with the team even before that, he
(36:04):
just wasn't the head coach. So um, it seemed like
they wanted to make that movie get him some coaching experience, uh,
to start the following year. Then, So with that in mind,
let's get you a quick little update from what we've
learned tonight, gentlemen, shall we now? I will say this
shameless plug. Charles Robinson, our man lead, a lap our producer.
(36:25):
He's he's on the path. Bro. We've been trying to
get you on for what are we on now? Three weeks? Leave?
Four weeks? Maybe? So Charles, let's go. Let's make this happen. Anyway.
He had a couple of interesting notes in a tweet
thread tonight, including Arnie, this will be the least shocking
thing that you are, Bobo or any Dallas Cowboy fan
(36:45):
or NFL fan will hear about this. This is not
a group think process by any means. It's going to
come down to how the candidates affair Answering questions from
Jerry and Stephen. So in other words, I'm not going
this wouldn't be like all of us getting together. This
would be like already making the decisions because you're the
You're the don You're in charge of everything on this show. Right,
(37:08):
you're trying to fire to saying me every week this
is all about Jerry Jones, Arnie least shocking news in
any of this. Hey, he's the owner. You want to
make the decisions. Go buy your own team and you
can make all the decisions you want until that, um
shut up. And and everybody's got a boss. You know,
we've got a boss. Our boss has got bosses. Everybody's
got a boss out there. You don't like, uh, working
(37:30):
for somebody, go open up your own business. That's the
way it's got to be. By the way, I don't
think Jerry's involved as much as you think he is
with everyday decisions. I think that's mostly Stephen. I think
Jerry's involved obviously with the coaching search, but with the
everyday decisions, I think that's that's pretty much left up
to Stephen. You would think by this point that it
should be right. You would think, of course, the mic
(37:53):
hold go ahead, Bobba, what was what's the the I
don't even like Santa Team the something bay um? Yeah,
you know see I'm talking about what's the what's the
guy's name? McCarthy, Yeah, Mike McCarthy. You know they said
that he interviewed and it went great and he stayed overnight.
Correct to beat with him again. So to me, if
(38:14):
you bring in a new head coach, now I know
this is all just hearsay that we're hearing. If you're
bringing a new head coach, he should be allowed to
bring in his own team because like his own crew.
Because now you're bringing in a head coach with Jason
Garrett's former coaches, aren't you gonna have the same problem?
Like what's gonna change? Well, according to what Charles Robinson
reported tonight, there is the chance, or at least the
(38:36):
thought that if you're coming in and you've got an
offensive mindset, you're going to have to retain Kellen Moore
and Mark Columbo, John Kitten, and Gary Brown all part
of the offensive coaching staff, including the offensive coordinator and
Kellen Moore. A source insisted that a Dallas cowboy looking
on his Saints coach Sean Payton can't be discounted even
(39:01):
if it involved trade assets, especially if New Orleans lost
though Robinson Fields, it's unrealistic, as is the thoughts of
going after a college coach. Names like Lincoln Riley, Matt Rule,
Urban Meyer, Dan Mullen have all been mentioned, but they
haven't been prioritized because of something Arnie's talked about quite
a bit. And what's that Jerry Jones getting up there
(39:24):
in age, Arnie, he's not He's not wanting to wait
while the college coach learns the ropes. He wants to
get a guy in there now that he thinks can win.
So we're gonna have much more on this throughout the night.
Cowboy fans, we'd love to hear from you on Twitter
at Stinking Genius one. That's Arnie. I'm at Plank Show,
and of course everybody should be following us at Fox
Sports Radio. But finally it became official today. Jason Garrett
(39:47):
is out. Now we wait who's next and we start
to break down the final eight next on Fox Sports Radio.
Our two will include Todd Ferman coming up in our
second segment, Did you hit your ten team parlay or
did you try to do that again this week? I
didn't try that. And though there's not ten picks there,
(40:07):
if you're gonna do NFL, you got to four games
and four over under joy. Here you talking about college
basketball like you know what's going on. Likely you include
that you're too good to bet on the hardwood or what? Yeah,
I wish. Yeah, my brother's bet in first half he
went out the Vegas like. Man, that's the one bad
thing about living out here on the East Coast. You
(40:28):
don't get to go to Vegas. Man, I miss going
to Vegas. They don't have planes there where you can
go fly and actually enjoy. You can go to the park.
Takes do you not long it takes to go from
Vermont to Vegas? You have any idea? Don't? They have
legalized gambling in Delaware. Now you know you you don't
have to go to Vegas. I think to bet on
(40:48):
sports any what you guy could do it in my
own living room. But Vegas. You gotta go to Vegas
for the whole atmosphere and the buffet's and and the shows.
I mean, come on, now, it's not just about gambling,
it's the whole thing. Isn't it only fitting that the
first thing you mentioned after gambling is the buffet's I'm concerned.
I'm concerned as we come. Do you live tonight for
(41:09):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios fifteen minutes could save
you fift or more on car insurance. Visit geo dot
com for a free rate quote. I'm all statted up tonight.
I'm I'm probably overly statted for the show this evening.
But the Saints fell to one in ten in games
in which they were trailing through three quarters. Though that's
kind of a little bit of a skewed stat because
(41:30):
I mean, in the playoffs and you're trailing through three quarters,
you're probably in trouble. Anyway, they're now one in six
with that mark. In the Sean Payton Drew Brees era,
there a lone win. There a lone win the Super
Bowl against the Colts. Get at the Super Bowl, how
about that? Huh yeah exactly, And of course the Minneapolis Miracle,
(41:52):
which they actually could have won they were trailing through
three quarters and then of course we all know what happened.
Then we all know what happened night, and now aren't
Next Saturday you get the Vikings and the Niners. And
then on Sunday in the NFC, you get the Seahawks
and the Packers. You but again, I gotta gotta give
you kudos. I was Florida. I was shocked. I thought
(42:12):
you would come in tonight being almost a gas and
the fact that Kirk Cousins won a game. But you
don't seem too shocked. I'm impressed with you tonight, aren't
you when you know went to the Patriots, um, you know,
and in the street being over you know, like I
said yesterday when I was on the areo, you know
where you were when the man landed on the moon? Um?
You know, you know you where you were when certain
(42:34):
things happened, and you'll know where you were when the
dynasty was finally over for the New England Patriots. You
know that. It's kind of funny because we started this
show mentioning that for legit. ARENI probably what like two
minutes tops off the top of the show, and immediately
(42:55):
immediately the first text that comes in was that gay
was last night. We're not still talking about this tonight, y'all.
I mean, it's I don't know how else to put this,
but this this is the end of an era. I mean, yeah,
I understand the game was last night, And I understand
that old analogy that Arnie likes to use, but our show,
our shows tonight. So I appreciate Joshua your your passion
(43:18):
for the show. And someday maybe someone will tell me
what at four twenty means on Twitter. But this is
as big of a story that we've had hit in
the NFL during the playoffs and in quite a while.
And then it's kind of Jerry Jones tried to go
over the top, but this isn't just a team losing
a playoff game. What happened with New England last night.
(43:39):
And I'm not trying to be I'm not an overly
dramatic person. I try not to be an overly dramatic person.
But Arnie, in this instance, I think we can be
overly dramatic. Of course the end, and and hearing what
Tom Brady had to say where it's where they said,
well what about retirement, he goes, that's not likely. And
then listen to what Belichick had to say where he
said he's gonna take a step back, can and evaluate
(44:01):
the situation. Doesn't sound like he wants Brady back. Um.
I think every day after the season's over worse, Tom
gonna go whorst. Tom gonna go is going to be fascinating.
You love the offseason news. You're really gonna Yeah, yeah,
I do, And usually I'm let down. I mean, if
not this year, not this year, Middle College don't know
about it earlier, you know, you hear about all this
(44:22):
free agent class and then guys will get franchise tagged,
and especially quarterbacks. But I mean, just look at the
list that I sent you earlier tonight when we were
throwing this show together. I mean, think about some of
the quarterbacks who could find themselves on the open market
over the next two weeks. Well, and that are essentially
on the open market right now. Drew Brees, who yes,
(44:43):
had a contract that had actually been agreed to through
one but they renegotiated it, which basically he's out. Uh.
Tom Brady and his renegotiation. Uh if he was on
the roster at the end of the twenty nineteen season
and he's automatically a free agent. Last I checked, he
didn't caught him last night, did they? So Tom Brady
was on the roster, he's a free agent. Philip Rivers,
(45:05):
Dak Prescott, Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, Ryan, Tannehill,
holy smokes, and I mean Tannehills, I mean still alive.
So he's still he might be the future Tennessee. But
you're looking right there at eight starters in the league,
and there could be more whenever the final decision is
made when the super Bowl wraps up. Well, is He's fascinating,
(45:28):
And with Brady's name in there, it's even crazier, right,
It's it's it's unbelievable that you all the ones you mentioned,
plus the ones that could possibly be traded. Let me
just let me just stop it one for a second.
Let me just stay with Tom Brady. Um, if I'm
Robert Kraft, I mean each person is gonna be looking
at it differently. I mean you have to look at
it from Robert Kraft. You have to look at it, um,
you know, from his son Jonathan Kraft. You have to
(45:50):
looking from the Patriot fans. You have to looking from
Belichick's point of view. But looking at Robert Craft's point
of view and Bill Belichick, I'm thinking to myself, if
you're Belichick and Craft, you're up there in a what
exactly are you going to bring in to replace Brady?
If you're gonna go for a rookie quarterback. Let's say
you're somehow lucky enough to get a Joe Burrow, which
isn't gonna happen, or two or whoever getting a rookie quarterback.
(46:13):
Belichick's gonna pull out his air having to deal with
a rookie for the next two, three or four years
until he gets up to speed. What are you gonna do?
Trade for a Mitch Trabinsky type who has some um
you know uh starts in the NFL, and you think
you could go ahead and turn him around. I don't
know if you want to deal with that way. Also, um,
you want to go ahead and sign a Cam Newton,
(46:35):
Jamis Winston um one of those types possibly, But that's
the guy you want to bring into replace a legend
like Tom Brady. I think I'd have to let Tom
Brady finish up his career for two more years while
I drafted a rookie and let him learn after under
Tom Brady and then move on. I don't think I
need to bring him, you know, any of those guys
(46:56):
I just mentioned to replace the great one? I I
don't think it's really worth it. Can I pose one
more quick little angle to this before we moved back
to the today's games and the tweets Bill Belichick sixty seven.
He's won six super bowls. Um, I mean I I
don't think this is necessary and he's won six super
Bowls as a head coach eight total to as a coordinator.
(47:18):
I don't know if it's maybe reaching a little bit
to say it would be a rebuild because as we
both agree, that defense still pretty good and Stefan Gilmour
is not going anywhere, but at the quarterback position it
would be. Do you think he's game for maybe going
with a younger guy and maybe even this time around
with the new offensive coordinator as well too, because Josh
mcgaine is probably get one of these jobs if he
(47:40):
wants it. So what do you mean by young? I
mean a young quarterback like a Trabisky or a rookie
quarterback coming out of college. Now, no, Mitch dr Bisky
is not gonna be available. The Bears are too done.
If I'm just saying, if you want to trade for
a guy that's been started for like two years, that
could be available, Okay, yeah, I know I was thinking
draft and maybe give up some capital to try to
(48:00):
move up. Maybe it's a guy that you see slipping
a little bit, like a Jake from Maybe it's a
Jordan's Love, Maybe it's a Jalen Hurts. I don't know,
But would you be willing to start that rebuild at
that position knowing that we watched a bunch of games
today where the final scores were what seventeen to nine,
you know, twenty three to twenty. I mean, we didn't
(48:20):
really necessarily have these big shootouts like we've kind of
come to expect. Maybe that'll be next week. But do
you imagine Belichick having to deal with a rookie quarterback
or a young quarterback that made a move like Josh
Allen did when he just pitched the ball yesterday. Oh
my god, for no reason whatsoever, it started the Paddigan Belichick,
we would just go bull Let's tick a fifth. If
(48:41):
he had to deal with a quarterback who didn't have
the smarts like Tom Brady, I I don't know if
he could go rookie and start all over again. Yeah.
See that's my point. So, and I hate to bring
age into but like I said, dudes, dudes getting up there.
You know, it's not just about time. It's about age.
He's sixty seven years old. By the time next year
rolls around, he's gonn He seems to be pretty spry.
(49:03):
He's still really really good. His press conference isn't firing
back at people, and it is with some of the
NFL one hundred stuff. He seems to be pretty good
if he wants to do media stuff and open up
a bit. So I don't know. I just when you
say go younger in New England, I'm with you. I
don't see that being a Bill Belichick thing. If anything,
they Brady moves on, goes to l A, goes to Vegas,
(49:26):
whatever it might be, and they try to get a
Cam Newton, they try to get any anty. You're Robert Craft,
you're Robert Kraft, and you're running out the greatest of
all time, the best quarterback in the history of football,
a guy where who has brought to you six Super Bowls,
because you really don't need another one. If you're Robert Craft,
it really doesn't make a difference at this point, and
you're gonna run him out of town for a Cam
(49:48):
Newton Jamis Winston. Even if you give Tom Brady million dollars,
you'll make money because the guy is probably worth like
a hundred million dollars to you, that's what you're running
about of town four, that that's what you're going ahead
and say, get hit the road. We got Cam Newton,
Jameis Winson, that's what you're doing. I don't understand what
(50:08):
you want, Arnie, because you completely and consistently tell me
Tom Brady's watched up Okay, so what does he think
he watched? For the good of the just, for the
good of everything. I think I'm here. I think I'm
keeping him around for another two more years because A
I don't have a uh a veteran the bringing that's
going to be you know that much of upgrade too.
(50:32):
I'll bring in a rookie that I'll draft that can
lord under Tom Brady. That would, to me, would be
a great scenario. Three. I'm not pushing out the greatest
of all time because even if I brought in to
Cam Newton, you think I'm gonna be a Super Bowl favorite? No,
So why even push it. I'm gonna keep the greatest
of all time around and have my fans when he's
happy about that if the fans want him back. But
(50:53):
here here's the deal. Uh, it's Tom's choice. What if
he doesn't want to come back. I mean, this is
I'm just learning from listening to you, Artie. I mean,
you're the one that was freaking out over him selling
his house right, and everyone thought he doesn't want to
be there. So you're saying that the Patriots are pushing
him out. What if he doesn't want to be there.
(51:13):
He's given them plenty of years and plenty of success.
Maybe in his mind he thinks l A is kind
of awesome. They're gonna be opening a new stadium. I
might want to try that. Maybe Vegas will be cool.
You're so hard to have conversations with about this because
you changed your mind from everything, Christ after playing Twitter.
I learned from I learned from watching you, Dad, and
(51:35):
now you're changing everything. Keep him around. He's fine. I'd
not saying he's fine and he's good. I'm just saying
he's serviceable. Like you said, it's not like there's big
points going up there, and you really think he's saying
to himself, yeah, things are gonna be much better with
the Chargers or the Raiders. Um, unless he's already made
up his mind. I'm maybe ask you this, do you
(51:56):
think that if they would have lost this game third
three thirty. And if they would have played well against
the Dolphins and won that game, and I know they
would have, wouldn't have had a wild card. But do
you think that maybe the Patriots were more likely to
bring him back or the fact that he went out
this way with a loss against the Dolphins and the
way they lost this game, they're like that that's the
(52:16):
final nail of the coffin? Can I can I pose
my theory on this? I think the Patriots, So I
think the Patriots won him back. I think Robert Craft
and Bill Belichick won him back. I mean, no offense
to Jared stid him, former Big twelve guy, let's go.
I don't think he's their guy. I don't think he
has a Jimmy Garoppolo trait to him at all period.
(52:38):
I think they want to back. I don't think this
is a Patriot decision, Artie. I think this is gonna
be a Tom Brady decision. And if if I don't know,
if they're certain feelers there, you're a little bit closer
to that than anyone or what it might be. Uh
if if maybe Tom Brady's tired of Patriot fans because
I love you all, but you can wear some people out.
Maybe he wants something new for the final couple of
(53:00):
years of his career. I don't know, but I'm just saying,
you're you're playing this out like the Patriots are telling
him to hit the road. I don't know if necessarily
that's the case. I think Belichick sounds like a guy
that wants to bring back Tom Brady. When he says
he wants to take a step back from uh for
a second, overlook everything, and and and you know, take
a take a few to uh take some time to
(53:21):
make a decision. That does sound like a guy that
definitely wants your back. You know. I don't think Belichick
ever acts like he likes anyone or wants anything. And
I think, just consistently that's how he is. That's his
personality and could be crazy. I don't think Bill Belichick
is I've I have yet to watch the press conference.
Unless someone's asking about the way a special teams unit
(53:43):
aligns themselves Bill Belichick or Army Football, Well, Bill, we're
Bill Belichick goes in depth on anything. I think this
is purely a Tom Brady decision, just like I think
it's purely a Drew Brees decision. If they want to
come back, they can come back. I just don't know
if that's gonna be the decision they want to make, though.
I I've got a suspicion, Artie, that I think Drew
(54:03):
Brees is less likely to end up somewhere else than
Tom Brady. I think Drew Brees, if he plays again
next year, it's in New Orleans. I agree with You're
there too. Do you think do you think Patriot fans
want if you took a pull just on diehard Patriot fans,
you think they want Tom Brady back? Or you think
they would want to move on? Um with the Jamis
Winston or Cam Newton or um. You know one of
(54:24):
those guys that I'm minsha one of those guys I
don't know. Well, let's do this. Let's ask Todd Furman
when we come back to the guy cooed Fox Sports
Radio Studios, as we debate and discuss the future of
one Tom Brady, we recap a wild day in the
wild Card Games, and we get you ready for the
Divisional round next week and right here on Fox Sports Radio,
(54:47):
Arty and playing a Fox Sports Radio's Welcome in the
Great Todd Furman, Vegas insider fs ones lock it in
at Todd Furman on Twitter, Todd, as you might imagine,
like every sports radio show is contractually obligated to do
over the next three months, we were talking a little
bit about Tom Brady before you jumped on with us.
(55:08):
What's your hunt right now? What's your gut telling you
his future is? I think we've seen him play his
last down, his starting quarterback in New England. I really
don't believe there's anything else left for him to accomplish.
Along with Bill Belichick. I think Josh McDaniels will take
a head coaching job somewhere else. And I would rule
out the possibility that ultimately where McDaniels goes, Tom Brady
follow suit and the two of them try and win
one more Super Bowl a Peyton manning before Tom rides
(55:31):
off into the sunset. And I still believe that the
Chargers make an awfully intriguing destination if they throw a
lot of money at a franchise quarterback, even in the
twilight of his career, to break in a new stadium.
If potentially a menta package deal you can bring McDaniels
with giving the walking papers to Anthony Lynn. Wait, wait,
wait a minute, wait a minute, are you telling me
I'm gonna become rich in the next couple of months,
(55:51):
because all I have to do is go offshore and
bet that the Brady will go to the charges, get
what four or five to one and make a boatload
of money by my own eye? Is that what you're
telling me? You can't move that kind of money on
those problem markets of the problem and fifty bucks more
or less the going raid off shore. But he's right now.
I pick him to return in New England, and pick
him if you want to take the entire field. I
(56:13):
just think when you watched him at the podium and
of course caught up in the heat of the moment,
it's a little bit tougher to discern exactly how he feels,
but you just get that sentiment that he doesn't think
there's anything left to accomplish in New England. But hey,
I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again, so
it'll be interesting to watch on fold over the next
couple of months. Yeah. I love how you brought up
the splash that we feel like the Chargers seem to
(56:33):
make moving into that new stadium, because I agree with you,
a h do the Raiders need to worry about making
a splash in Vegas? Or is that fan base going
to be passionate because it's an NFL team in Vegas.
I know, I know the gold Night's kind of ruined
it for easing into being a new franchise in Vegas.
But Todd, do the Raiders need to make a bit
of a splash this offseason with some big names. I
(56:54):
honestly don't think so. I think people were encouraged by
the Raiders performance throughout the course of this year. It's
already become big news, but it's anyone's guests in terms
of what the composition will look like it comes Sundays
for Raiders home games, if you're gonna have a lot
of folks flying in from Oakland and southern California. Because
the price point for Raiders ticket far surpasses what the
Golden Knights were doing in season one. And that was
(57:14):
the one thing that's blown me away, having been with
the team in a season ticket older myself since the
Nights dropped the puck for the first time back in
two thousand eighteen, that it's a lot more Native Los
Vegans that are filling that stadium on a nightly basis. Now,
you might not have known that on Saturday, as Blues
fans came out in full force. But the city has
really gravitated towards it. Whereas the football team, I'm a
lot more skeptical that you're gonna get a ton of locals.
(57:37):
They're knowing that it can be a weekend event and
what better reason than to come down to Vegas than
to check out an NFL game and also do some
gambling at the same time. Todd, how did the books
do today? They must have been quavered for everybody that
obviously took Minnesota, and I love Minnesota. On the money line,
what were you getting on that? Like three to water
or something or what? It was one of the best
Sundays they told me the entire season, to be honest,
darny when you look at it, because everybody was running
(57:59):
to the window trying to tie the New Orleans Saints
into a teaser or money line parlay type scenario. You
had all four games coming under the total between Saturday
and Sunday, so you didn't have a lot of liability
going there. The Titans winning out right was a great decision.
The only thing that kept him away from what would
have probably been the best two days that they've seen
in quite some time. Would have been a Philadelphia Eagles victory.
Is about sevent the tickets at a lot of shops
(58:21):
came in on Seattle, and who knows. If Carson Wentz
is out there for full four quarters, you'd be hard
pressed to convince me the Eagles don't win that football game.
Does does the under suddenly become the play in the playoffs,
or do we get ourselves some good old fashioned shootouts
when we get Aaron Rodgers and we get Jimmy Garoppolo
next week. And obviously with what Mahomes and Lamar Jackson
have done this year, you know what, I think you
(58:43):
have to take it on a case by case basis.
When you look at the all of these teams that
are playing, you're gonna have more high profile offenses on
full display two weeks to repair for a lot of
these coaches that are there. But when you look at
the initial line movement on some of these totals for
the quartetic games next weekend, forty five and a half
down to forty four and a half in Minnesota, San
Francisco Tennessee Baltimore Open forty eight now down to forty
(59:03):
seven and a half at Fox Bet Houston, Kansas City,
that total is held pretty strong at forty nine, and
you have seen a tick of under money coming on
Seattle in Green Bay. One of the big things that
you're gonna want to look at, especially for the two
games on Sunday, you want to see if mother nature
is going to allow those fields to be played those
games excuse me, to be played in pristine condition, or
we're gonna have some wintry mix in Arrowhead and Lambeau
(59:25):
Todd Is the by verse none by week significant when
it comes to betting the next round games. I'm sure
it is, isn't it. It does play a role because
these teams are come in a little bit healthier. But
it's always the question of rest versus RUSS Teams that
have this kind of momentum and they get to continue
to keep playing, they're able to stay in a rhythm
where some of these teams that aren't familiar with taking
that extra week off may take them a little while
(59:47):
to get going. And I think that's what we're gonna
see on full display the first game in the weekend
between Minnesota and San Francisco, because you can make the
case Kirk Cousins doesn't have to play with that monkey
on his back and all the pressure, Minnesota playing with
a bit of house money. Meanwhile, Sam Francisco goes into
this game with a quarterback making his playoff debut, with
all the expectations heaped on his shoulders. I wouldn't be
surprised if that game is one of the more competitive
(01:00:08):
ones we see come this weekend. Todd, I know there's
a lot of factors this Todd firm and joins US
Vegas insider fs Ones locking in. I know there's a
lot of factors that you look at, and I brought
this up a lot, and he's probably so tired of
hearing about it, but I'm so blown away by the
how they've been playing. Kind of mindset when it comes
to the vikings of the Saints. And yes, I know
every Viking fan believe they were gonna win today, but
(01:00:29):
y'all stunk down the stretch. You lost two of your
last three games, two in a row. To be exact,
I know the starters didn't play and the Saints were rolling.
How hard is it to quantify and kind of forget
what had happened the games coming into the playoffs todd
because based on the way they were playing, that result
made no sense. Yeah, I think part of it as
you look at Minnesota, and it's easy hindsight always. I mean,
I didn't have a ticket on the game or an investment.
(01:00:50):
Was actually a little bummed out. Will lots missed the
field goal this time expired at the end of the
first half for a small investment to go over that
total that I would have had no business cashing. But
Minnesota was healthy. You're offensively, you saw the impact that
Adam Feeling and Dalvin Cook made to the offensive side.
The old line felt a lot more comfortable in play
action when they had a viable ground threat working in
their favor. And defensively, a lot of us probably sold
(01:01:13):
Coach Zimmer a bit short. You look at Drew brees
track record in a handful of games now against the
Mike Zimmer led defense, and he hasn't exactly gone out
there and thrived. And we can attribute to Drew Brees
being older or Alvin Kamar maybe not beingent. But that
was Minnesota scheming perfectly to try and take away what
the Saints did best, and a lot of people I
don't even know if you can call it a dark
(01:01:33):
horse super Bowl contender all of a sudden gets bounced
out in Minnesota becomes a very dangerous team to watch,
knowing if they can regain that mid season form, there's
no reason to believe they can't go to the Bay
Area win and have a relatively favorable matchup against whoever
would come out of that late Sunday afternoon game between
Seattle and Greenback. Todd I said this before that. I
said this on the show. My brother bet the Vikings
(01:01:54):
to win it. He got eight team the one before
the season. You can still get the Vikings at fourteen
the one that's something a good value if you ask
could be in the Packers at seven and a half
to wanted some good value you can on Minnesota. I
would tell people that if you're inclined to backt the
Vikings here, you're better off even at this juncture with
a money line rollover. Uh. And what I mean there
is you take whatever investment you were going to play
(01:02:15):
on them to win the Super Bowl. You can bet
him at around plus two fifty this weekend against San Francisco.
Minnesota would be a dog in the NFC Championship regardless
of opponents. Seattle in Green Bay, and then if they
met at Baltimore or Kansas City, you'd be talking about
Minnesota in that four and a half five range, maybe
even a little bit steeper. So starting with say a
hundred bucks, you could roll it over and ultimately your
(01:02:35):
money would pay a little bit better than the market
value out there. Todd final thought from me, I'm obviously
a college guy. Oh yeah, early you get some early
feel about L s U and Clemson which way you're
starting to lean yet? For me, I think it's all
about the number here, and you're seeing oddsmakers really put
a premium on laying the points with L s U
(01:02:56):
in the spot on the heels of that win against Oklahoma,
Clemson being sold bit short. But we're gonna get a
better indication when these coaches are a little more outspoken
this week. Uh. It feels a little bit bizarre to
have thirteen days leading up to the College Football National Championship,
and I think when you look at it, that benefits
a team like Clemson that has been there and done
that before. They can play with a chip on their shoulder.
(01:03:16):
Really here to the underdog mentality. So if you're putting
my feet to the fire and it may change by
next Sunday, Clemson plus five and a half would be
the way that I lean right now, Todd, before I
let you go, give me a feel, um, And I
know you have the off shore odds or I'm hoping
you do on to h for tomorrow. I guess what
it's like a one to tend that he's going back
to Alabama, right or what's going on there? I haven't
(01:03:37):
seen odds that high. Um. You know when you looked
at some of the off shores that hung prices there, Uh,
they had two about a minus three forty favorite to
turn pro The people I've spoken to closer to the
Alabama program are a very different mindset. So my odds,
I think there's all sorts of value if you wanted
to take a price of two to one or better
on two to return talking about unfinished business, and uh,
(01:03:58):
I don't think there's we should rule out the possibility
that to decide he wants to spend another year in
college rather than playing back up for your beloved Miami Dolphins.
And I've been trying to get back to college for
twenty years. Appreciate you, buddy, have a great twas a
pleasure you guys do the same. Dot Ferman with us
on Fox Sports Radio. I want to hear something amazing.

Steve de Seger is in the house to get us
caught up on everything going on in the world of sports.
(01:04:40):
What's up, Steve? You know you mentioned the college football
We grabbed a paper I did when we were going
through Vegas last summer, and I saved it all season.
And there was because there was one place that was
doing this for betting on the college football National Championship
for this season. You could get a ticket with these
three teams on it and if any of the three
one you won, and the three teams were Alabama, Ohio State,
(01:05:04):
and Oklahoma, or or you could get a ticket with
these three Georgia, Michigan or Clemson. Clemson of course still alive.
The only other option was just bet the field, which
means you would have gotten LSU betting the field. In
that case, that's a bet exactly with all the greats.
So you know, Clemson Alabama were like two to one
(01:05:26):
odds to win it all as of last summer. As
of last June, l s U was ten to one.
As of last May, l s U was twenty to
one to win the national championship. And of course we've
talked about how unlikely the Heisman winner was too, so
it's funny how things can change in a few months.
In the NFL playoffs, a couple of road wins Seattle
(01:05:46):
and Minnesota advancing the Seahawks one at Philadelphia seventeen to nine.
Quarterback Carson Wentz left early with a head injury. Helmet
and helmet hit. Josh McCown was sacked six times. Russell
Wilson three twenty five yards passing, including a fifty three
yards e D two dk metcalf. Minnesota won in overtime
at New Orleans twenty tightend Kyle Rudolph with the game
winning touchdown reception. It came on the first drive of
(01:06:08):
ot Dalvin Cook had two touchdown runs. Today, the Saints
missed a forty three yard field goal attempt at the
end of the first half. Drew Brees fumbled late in
regulation when they were in field goal range, and the
Saints are out losing at home in overtime. The Cowboys
officially parted ways with coach Jason Garrett in the late
NBA game fifteen seconds left in l A. The Lakers
(01:06:28):
are back in front of Detroit one oh four to nine.
Earlier at Staples Center, the Clippers beat New York one
thirty five, one thirty two. Coach Doc Rivers complaining about
having to play day games this weekend. Memo to coach
Doc Rivers, you are a renter in that building. You
have zero rights whatsoever. Go build your own building in Inglewood.
(01:06:50):
My goodness. Kawhi Leonard did not play today, but Montrese
Harold at thirty four points, Paul George thirty two points,
seven turnovers, Lou Williams thirty two points, seven turn overs.
Clippers held on to win victories for Miami, Minnesota, and Memphis.
In college hoops, it's over on FS one. Washington blitzed
USC seventy two to forty. Earlier on FS one. It
(01:07:12):
was Illinois sixty three thirty seven over per Due Xavier.
On Fox today was a winner against St. John seventy
five sixty seven Oregon State one at Colorado seventy eight.
Top twenty matchup at Michigan State went to the Spartans
over Michigan eighty seven sixty nine All American Cassius Winston
thirty two points, nine assists and number twenty Dayton one
(01:07:34):
at St. Joe's eight to sixty seven. Attendance in Philadelphia
was two thousand, five hundred for that college basketball game.
Apparently something else was going on in Philadelphia today. Not sure.
Fairfield won it's game forty forty two at KENNISHUS attendant
seven hundred fifty one for that game. Justin Thomas one
(01:07:55):
golfs Tournament of champions on the third playoff hole in Hawaii.
One Bowl game remains. It's Monday night Miami of Ohio
against Louisiana. Then I can't wait for that one. Yeah,
speaking for the country, the National Championship game is a
week from Monday l s U against Clemson, so that
we still have that calm down exactly. That's gonna be
a while. The sagre will slide back in here in
(01:08:21):
a bit. Yeah, we still got time. We got to
the thirteenth for the National Championship game. Was you're saying,
oh stop, we come to you alive. And the guy
who Fox Sports Radio Studios, it's easy to say fift
or more on car insurance with g go to geo
dot com or called eine seven otto. The only hard
part of figuring out which way is easier. You mentioned it.
You mentioned it at the end of our conversation with
(01:08:43):
Todd Ferman. You get in the sense that two is
gonna come back to Bama next year. Yeah, I guess
what the Nick Saban is gonna be alongside of him,
which to me says, hey, look I'm getting back next year. Um,
two is coming back unless he's there to say we
love to We're here to support him as he takes
the next step in his journey. But I get the
gut feeling he's coming back. I don't have any inside
(01:09:04):
sources or any information, but I mean, don't you get
that same feeling too? Or what? And watching this what
was it? The Citrus Bowl Michigan, Alabama. My man Greg
McElroy was on the call for ESPN and he mentioned
on a couple occasions, how and it seems to be
that's a former Alabama quarterback who's still very tied into
(01:09:25):
the program, and he mentioned a couple of times, Hey,
I think he's coming back. We've had Ryan Foller on
before with us. He's been kind of, I don't want
to say quiet during this, but hasn't really had an update,
but everyone seems to be thinking positive. I'll be honest
with you, Arnie, I'm kind of surprised by how many
guys we've seen that are coming back so far for Alabama,
and I think Oklahoma State getting their star receiver back
(01:09:47):
in Thyland Wallace, even though he had an a c
L injury. I mean, I'm looking across the country and
I'm kind of surprised by some of the dudes that
are bypassing the NFL draft. But with that said, with
Toua and I loved college, I mean I loved college.
It was awesome, the greatest eight years of my life.
With that said, if he gets hurt again, I mean,
(01:10:08):
it's you're living off the insurance policy, bro, I mean,
you get deemed one more time, there's probably not gonna
be much of an NFL future for you why not
go out and take that risk while you're getting paid.
And I tend to think that your Dolphins would take
him at five if are him or Justin Herbert there
in the top five. I get a feeling that maybe
(01:10:28):
he doesn't want to play for Miami, which one of
the reasons why he wants to go back to Alabama.
Though that's not good enough reason. I especially with the
way Miami came on as of late, I think he's
making a big mistake. Whoever is advising him is giving
him the wrong advice there, or maybe he's doing it
with his heart. So maybe say, look, I want to
come back. I'm not. I'd rather rehab myself and play
(01:10:50):
college so that I could come back and do it
again and then I'll go to the NFL. But besides,
I don't want to play for the Miami Dolphins. Um
maybe I just if you're Mac Jones, do you transfer
or what do you do? If you're him? Bug? And
not only would you think about transferring, but you got
to his brother. They've got the top recruiting the country
coming in and Bryce Young, who just lit it up.
(01:11:11):
I think I'd be on my way out. I'd be
looking for the next train out of town if he stays.
But I mean, is he gonna be ready by the season? How?
I know? They had a doctor's appointment on Friday that
was supposed to be a big deal. So I don't know, Arnie.
There's a lot that would have to go into that.
But I just I can't fathom someone with that injury
history and still that potential deciding to come back unless
(01:11:33):
he really loves college a lot more, unless he's and
rather rehabit Alabama it's more comfortable preach. Yeah, that's what
a lot of the college piece of peeps have been
telling me as well too. Let's I've ignored Twitter. Let's
get a couple of good ones in here real quick
before we grab a break at that damn bear Bear.
That's our man, Calberty tweets. Addison says Arnie saying Brady
and Belichicks should stay the next two seasons in New
(01:11:55):
England shows that Arnie is a true Patriots fan. There's
another good one on that. All of a sudden, Brady's
a legend. He's the greatest of all time. He's the
smartest qb ever. Weren't you burying him last night? Yeah? Arnie,
what's I him? I am burying him. He certainly is
not the same quarterback. But I'm just talking about it.
If I'm Belichick at sixties seven years old, and how
(01:12:17):
many more years does this guy really have left, Let's
say three to five years. Do I want to spend
the next three years bringing around a rookie quarterback? Do
I really want to run Tom Brady out for Jamis Winston,
Marcus Mariota, Cam Newton. I don't know if I would
have run out the greatest of all time, um to
go with one of those knuckle aheads for the next
two or three years and then, uh, I jedi too right, Yes,
(01:12:40):
the Patriots are dead. No videotape or Homer calls this year.
Even though Brady had intentionally grounded the first play, it
wasn't called yet. That was ugly. The darkness is no more.
I don't know if I've ever seen anything bring Twitter
together quite like New England losing last night. It was
one of the more unifying moments, Arnie, that I think
(01:13:02):
we've had, outside of the first Shark Nado. I think
the New England Patriots getting beat brought everyone together last night.
And it's kind of funny I mean, there was a
part of me for a moment that I think it's
kind of root for New England to pull it off.
I know that sounds stop stop it, but you're fired.
It's a signature moment in in sports history. Right. My
(01:13:25):
co host up here in in Vermont, who's a big
Patriot fan, has not answered any of my texts. So
I haven't heard from him in three days, no doubt.
I don't even know if he's going to show up
to work tomorrow. I can imagine that you're just the
absolute easiest guy to deal with. You have to when
you have to talk on a daily basis and involving
(01:13:45):
the Patriots. All Right, We'll continue to keep the tweets coming.
We got Buy Yourself coming up next hour and Arnie's picks.
But when we come back, you know, did we see
the end of an era somewhere other than New England?
This weekend, we'll talk about the next with Arnie and
Plank on Fox Sports Radio, Artient Plank on Fox Sports Radio,
Leadal Lap, great job getting on John Middlecost tonight and
(01:14:06):
Todd Furman. If you missed it, it's on the podcast
page at Fox Sports Radio dot com. Bobo more perspective
on the Cowboys coming up in just a bit. In fact,
I have some offshore numbers for you. I know Bernie
checked in. We've got some offshore numbers on Tom Brady
that we'll get to the next hour. But Steve the
Sager slides in with this, Guys, I want to pay
off my teas right here, because a lot of the
(01:14:26):
conversation tonight has centered around still kind of carrying over
from Tom Brady and the Patriots era being over and
what's next for him. But if we go more, oh,
I don't know timely. Drew Braise doesn't have a contract
for next year either, and we've we've heard the rumors
Steve about Sean Payton getting a little look see from
(01:14:48):
the Cowboys again. And that's three years in a row
with an absolute heartbreak. Could it have been the end
of an era in New Orleans as well? That would
be bad news for Michael Thomas. It would be especially
with his contract that But what if they decided and listen,
not they have a decent quarterback option right because and
(01:15:08):
I know Teddy Bridgewater is a free agent too, but
what if they decide Bridgewaters are guy? I mean, there's
there's some possibilities there, but could it be the end
of Sean Payton slash Drew Brees as a combo? And
when I was watching Tayson Hill and how they used
him today, I I thought during the game, what if
he becomes a regular quarterback one day with this franchise,
(01:15:29):
A lot of that's going to fall away, and then
he's not going to be special at all. Right, I mean,
you're gonna ruin the good thing that you have by
playing him more? Or or did you see him try
to throw the long bomb when a guy was wide
open as I think the exact stats where the wide
receiver was going eighteen miles an hour down the field
and had to slow down to ten miles an hour
(01:15:50):
to catch the yard pass. Anyway, we're gonna get an
a f C title game this from football effects without
Tom Brady. Of course, there's been eight straight years at
the Patriots in it. But this is the first time
in eighteen years with no Brady, no Roethlisberger, no Peyton
Manning in an a f C title Quacks and eighteen
straight years would be exactly equal to a third of
(01:16:11):
all the a f C title games ever played. If
you're going Super Bowl Aerro which is over fifty years.
So the last time we didn't have those three one
of those three in an an f C championship was
when it was Rich Gannon and Steve McNair. So it
has been a while anyway, after the Dallas News with
them officially parting ways today with coach Jason Garrett, of course,
(01:16:33):
Troy Aikman commented on it after he did the game
with Fox He spoke with Fox four and was quoted
by the Athletics saying Garrett committed everything he had to
that organization, doing the best job he could. And I
don't know after all of this and all he gave
and committed that he received the same in return, and
when the organization was unwilling for whatever reasons, whatever the
(01:16:53):
back stories, unwilling to come out publicly the last week
and say we're seeking a new coach. At the same
time there are reports coming out they're interviewing potential candidates
for a new head coach. Quote that's disappointing. I think
in a lot of ways, it shines a light on
some of the dysfunction, if you will, in Dallas and
kind of how they got to the point that they're
in now and earlier Aikman had spoken with Fox Sports,
(01:17:15):
rating You've got a head coach who comes down and
says we're gonna evaluate the kicker, and then the front
office says right after that that they weren't evaluing the kicker.
All those things have an impact and it slowly trickles down.
So I think there's a lot of factors that have
played into this. Coaching obviously hasn't been great at times
in certain situations. Players haven't played great, but the front
office hasn't been great and allowing the head coach to
do his job either, Troy, So let's get to the
(01:17:40):
football weekend. We did have the overtime game yesterday, first
wild card overtime game when Houston b Buffalo since the
Tim Tebow passed to beat the Steelers after the twenty
eleven season. And then today we get another overtime game
with the Minnesota win at New Orleans. That's the first
time to wild card games went ot the same weekend.
But for the Saints, a third en win team to
(01:18:00):
be out already not make it passed wild card weekend,
that's never happened before. Of course, most thirteen win teams
usually have a bye, and I'm not playing on wild
Card weekend. But the Saints are just the second team
in the whole Super Bowl era. Again, that's over fifty
years to have to home playoff losses in overtime. The
Chiefs in their franchise history had the Christmas overtime loss
(01:18:24):
of nineteen seventy one and then last year's overtime loss
in the postseason to the pass Here the Saints have
done it back to back years with the Rams and
the fight Kings both at six six games. That was
the Ed Podalac game, which absolutely that's very, very famous
at old NFL. Look at two points for you. He
(01:18:44):
was probably in attendance. There was a great stat as
Drew Brees and the Saints offense was not what we
had seen today. At one point in the third quarter,
Drew brees passer rating was broken down by the receivers
he had targeted. Now, when he was throwing to Michael Thomas,
his passer rating was over a hundred. At the time,
when he was throwing to anyone else on the Saints,
(01:19:05):
his passer rating was under thirty and he'd only had
eighteen yards and an interception until that point in the
third quarters, so it was a huge, huge difference. So
eventually we get a playoff loss for Drew Brees even
though he had a late tying drive. This is hardly
new in his playoff career. Can you imagine the narrative
(01:19:25):
on Drew brees career if he didn't have that one
super Bowl, Because here's the number. He's had eight losses
in his postseason career. Five times in the eight losses,
he's had a late tying or go ahead drive and
still dropped the game, including an overtime loss in San
Diego before he ever got to New Orleans. Compare that
to John Elway, he never had a playoff loss out
(01:19:47):
of his eight in that situation. Montana only one time
out of all his playoff losses, Marina only one time
out of his ten playoff losses. Breeze today a late
tying drive, but remember it was Breeze that fumbled late
in regulation when they were in field goal range. So
maybe the game shouldn't have gone too overtime. Great stuff
to say, you're great stuff, And that's a good point. Man.
(01:20:09):
How would we view Drew Brees if he didn't have
the Super Bowl with some of those late game meltdowns
or maybe more specifically, some of those playoffs struggles he's had.
Now when we come back, did the guy go? Fox
Sports Radio Studios. We haven't talked about the Bills implosion,
we haven't talked really in depth about the Seahawks, and
we'll do it next a Fox Sports Radio Final Hour
(01:20:31):
coming to you live from the Getico Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen cent or more on
car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote.
Of course, as we are every Sunday night, aren't We're
merely the tailgate party before Big Ben Mallard takes over.
And maybe you know, I hate I hate when people say, oh,
(01:20:52):
you're the final show of the weekend. How about we're
the first show of the weekday. You know we're past midnight.
I want to I want to start doing that. Let's
there you. Oh, that's on you, Jonathan, That's for you
to take the wheel and lead the show. Like and
you said, Ben Maller up after us? After is what
two month vacations out? Who's coming up next? I think
it was two weeks And if I work the overnight shift,
(01:21:14):
I'd probably want to take a little bit of time off.
I will say this, I love the Mallar militia. I
love fighting with him, but there is some very sensitive
people out there. When Ben's gone, it's like I was
kind of blown away by a handful of you. But no,
it's a blast man. The crew makes it awesome, just
like this crew every single Sunday night. So let's let's
(01:21:35):
hit on the games today, real quick, guarding before we
get to some numbers that you've been able to procure
thanks to our buddy Bernie Frado, as far as the
future of Tom Brady and to a tongue by Loa,
Let's start real quick with the Minnesota win over the
Saints twenty earlier. Biggest win, biggest throw, biggest moment of
(01:21:55):
Kirk Cousins career so far. You think absolutely Um, there's
no doubt about what was it owing fifteen against teams
that uh um had went twelve wins or more or
something like that. Of course, the Saints had thirteen, so
he finally got over the hump. He had a big game.
Wasn't like he had a big game statistically, he just
(01:22:15):
didn't go ahead and do anything. Um Cousins wise, that's
gonna make a cough up the ball. Something that's gonna
get the you know, give the Saints a little bit
of momentum. It was. It was like a field general.
That's what Jeff to be like these days. Vikings had
a great game, you know. They they had that ted
point lead once. Uh once they let the Saints get
back in. I was a little worried there. But they
got lucky on the Adam Feeling long catch which set
(01:22:38):
up the third down, uh touchdown throw. I thought that
was let me explain. It was first down from the
two yard line, they got it down to the one.
On second down they pitched out the lost three yards.
I'm like, no, no, no, you run it on second down,
you get that much closer than on third down. You
may even do it again, and on fourth down you
(01:22:58):
do it again to try to win the game. Uh.
That almost that left them one play to get it.
I thought they got to kick a field goal. Well
that one play. Sorry, Bobo. From my feedback there as
I tried to plug this in, sounded like this on
the Vikings radio networking Paul Allen Bird and Goal from
the Floor, perp takes the snap looks right, fade lep
end zone and it is caught to fields San Francisco
(01:23:30):
and horrible law New Orleans Saints. The Minnesota Vikings have
beaten the New Orleans Saints twenty six, twenty and over time,
and this game indeed was a San Francisco treat. Oh
my mirror, all Alan working into Bay Area analogies, let's
go now. I was. I was a little bit disappointed
(01:23:53):
because Arnie, usually you were on top of people trying
to destroy me on Twitter, so I was getting hammered early.
I saw that. Yeah, yeah, I would look bit disappointed
like this from the political warrior. I'm sure he's busier
with other things right now, but you're right, hey, Arnie.
Tell Mr Plank to look at the video of the
coverage in the end zone, and you clearly see the
(01:24:17):
Minnesota receiver extending his arm and pushing off the corner.
Should have been reviewed and called back in favor of
the seats. I don't know what that means. Spoke of
the replay before you speak. Look at the replay before
you speak. Um, I'm glad they didn't overturn it. Well,
they didn't even look at it. I thought maybe you
(01:24:37):
should have looked at it too. Well, why didn't they
have to, because if you're gonna call that instant readball, okay,
literal Arnie, but if that's gonna end up being past interference,
that every single past that is ever thrown, probably I'm
glad they didn't call pass inference. Saw so I I
was a little nervous that they might, though. Who knows
what happens in the Saints game, you know, uh, you no,
(01:24:59):
no question, But I just legitimately the people that all
hear are crying Saints fans boo, who go ahead, be mad.
I'd be mad too, I would be. I'm still mad
about the tuck rule, and it was like twenty years ago,
so I completely understand. It sucks. It's horrible. You think
you should have got the call, But turn around, locate
the football. What are you doing his hands on on Rudolph?
(01:25:21):
The way you passed now on the field. Uh. Eddie
writes the Saints could have erased two years of horrible
playoff losses by getting revenge against the Vikings. Instead, they
choked and are one and done in the wild card game.
Sucks to be a Saints fan. And Josh goes a
little X and O on us, where he writes the
(01:25:43):
Vikings flipped their study d Ease into interior defensive tackles,
rotated other combo rushers outside, letting the Saints talented offensive
tackles eat them up, while Hunter and Griffin were just
busting through the middle keeping Drew Brees from stinging, are
stepping up into passes. Josh, you are the official X
and O guru of Arnie and Plank. Now, with that
(01:26:05):
in mind, that's only one game today, because the second game,
how did you put it? Ugly? It was a good
way to put it. But yet, as we talked about
with John Middlecoff an hour one, this is what new,
this is what Seattle does. This kind of games that
they're in. Uh, they kind of lull you to sleep
a little bit, and when they need to make a
(01:26:28):
big play, Arnie, it always seems like, if it's not
Russell Wilson, a pretty legit defense helps overcome many of
the mistakes they made. I was again, I know Philadelphia
was down to his Skelton squad, but go on the
road and get a win. It's not an easy thing
to do in the playoffs. When we saw it happened
three times this weekend. Yeah, I'm more interested about once
the clock hit zero. Sure, a good win for Seattle.
(01:26:49):
They go on the road far distance, and we'll see
what they go ahead and are able to do next week,
which is, you know, go to Green Bay. But now
it's Carson Wentz. This guy can't really play in the playoffs.
He gets hurt. He's never gonna be Nick Foles. What
do we do now? You can't do anything. He's gonna
be on the team for a long time. So you
know what's going to happen to this team? Are they
(01:27:10):
gonna be able to rebound? I don't think they're in
good shape um for the future. So I've got a
lot of question marks about this Eagles team. Uh. And
then as we shift to the Saturday games here quickly,
you know who's kind of been spared tonight. And I
do appreciate the efforts throughout the evening of Paul, our
resident homer for the Buffalo Bills to try to have
(01:27:31):
this talk about golf or something else other than what
happened with the Bills yesterday. Through that, the one thing
you came away with still not being sold on Houston.
And I think I'm right there with you, Arnie. I
I love DeShawn Watson and it's pretty incredible. But I
don't know. I didn't know that there was another defensive
player other than J J. Watt based on the coverage
(01:27:51):
that they received yesterday. Ho, there's nobody. Nobody plays it.
By the way, I don't know. You said you love
jay uh Deshaun Watson? Um? Yeah two in the second half?
Did Deshaun Watson In the first half I don't like
so much. I I'm not. I'm not, you know, real high,
I'm that guy. The second half guy, I I do like. Um.
The first half guy kind of made me sick to
my stomach. The second half guy, I made you sick
(01:28:15):
to your stuff. The first half guy made okay. I
was like, wait, hold on, hold on a second. On
the second half, guy was damn good. First half guy
was was not very good. And you know, Josh Allen,
I go so far back and forth, back and forth
when they were up sixt nothing of like, yeah, maybe
the kid is the future of the Buffalo Bills. And
then when he's lottery the ball like no, not. When
you do stuff like that, you're not. I'm always hesitant
(01:28:39):
to say anything about other networks broadcasts, so I might
table this until June. Wow, come on, dude, that was
a hard listen. Man, I don't know how else to
put it. But whenever you have an analyst that's suggesting
a team run it and then spike it on fourth down,
I saw that. Uh and and to me, this is
(01:29:04):
just my idea of an analyst. And I'm a big
Troy Aikman, Tony Romeo. I I'm wild. I guess because
I love Chris collins Worth two. I guess I'm I'm
in the minority. But you know what, they'll tell you
what they think is going to happen, or at least
give you some ideas. Whenever you're sitting in a situation
where Houston just retook the lead and the aist goes, man,
(01:29:26):
let's see what's gonna happen here, You're like, why don't
you tell me? I mean, give me an idea? And
they rent some screens. You talk to the coaches more
than anyone. Maybe you can have an idea of how
they react after this dude has a mistake that he makes.
I mean, I've I've never in my here was Here
was one take from Saturday that literally almost caused my
head to explode. The analyst booger McFarland legitimately said they
(01:29:52):
need to go for two here because if they go
for two, it'll make it a three point game. And
I just stopped, and I can't get anywhere. You know,
holy es man, this's just groundbreaking stuff. I understand why
he's making all this money. Alright, I feel better now,
thanks for letting me. But how about this, So let
let me ask you this before we before we get
into Brady, and I guess this kind of leads into
(01:30:14):
it a little bit. But in the four teams whose
season came to an end today, all and and over
the last forty eight hours, if you will, Buffalo, New England,
New Orleans, and then of course Philadelphia, Arnie, who do
you feel better about being back? And I don't want
to say necessarily in this position, let's just say, in
the playoffs of those four teams, which team do you
(01:30:34):
think has a good chance of being back next year?
In the Buffalo Bills, I mean still, I don't believe
in the Jets and the Dolphins and the Patriots are
gonna start taking a step backwards because their dynasty is over. Um,
say hello to the new a f C East champions.
Their names the Buffalo Bills, So yeah, they'll be back
for sure. I like this, by the way, from our
(01:30:55):
buddy Lou Riley, who writes, Chris, aren't you guys being
a tad bit miss agonistic or to use a word
already understand sexist. Regarding the Brady situation, Tom Brady isn't
making nearly as much catch as his wife Giselle, and
the couple has two young kids. Don't you think they
have a say in what Brady does? Oh? Man, Yes,
I think they do. But I think as much as
(01:31:19):
Giselle has been pretty open because I'm the dope that
was watching their Facebook show, uh, as much as Giselle
has been open about how she kind of is ready
for him to move move away from football, I do
think that they understand this is kind of the the end,
and if he wants to go two years to l
A or if he wants to go two years to
wherever Josh McDaniels goes, I think they're gonna be on
(01:31:40):
board with it. But it's a fair point, Lou. Maybe
we should have a running gag on the show with
w W G D what would Giselle do? Or maybe
would Giselle allow Tom Brady to do, right. I mean,
she's got to have a say in this. You know,
by the way, I send the segar to cover the
Chargers when they play their home games, and you imagine
(01:32:00):
if Tom Brady was playing for them, and make the
Sager get him on our show. I think the Sager
get Tom Brady on our show pronto, and I'm sure
you do it right away. If there is one thing
though that we do know about Tom Brady, he'll do
some radio. Now. He's not afraid to do some radio.
It's just it's it's got to be those shows that
he's comfortable with. So you got kind of gets paid for. Yeah,
(01:32:21):
I think Tom Brady would come on with you as
often as Steve Kerr. WHOA come on, Do you really
think Kurr's gonna come on with us after what the
team is doing this year? Of course not is his
team is suffering and when they were great before, he
was too busy, So there's always excuse. By the way
you were talking about Booker brick Farland, there were many
(01:32:43):
many tweets during that broadcast yesterday. Two of them one
said Booker McFarland is now trending on Twitter. That cannot
be a good thing. The other is the game went
to overtime, says the good more football, the bad more Booker.
Yeah he was. There was an article the five dumbest
things he said during the broadcast. Well, maybe they can
(01:33:05):
get Jason. Well, if I am, if I am in
the the world of trying to get myself a solid analyst,
and I mean if you I'm a dorg from media stuff.
Guys I listened to like Richard Ditches podcasts, and the
thought is that the NFL is even going to ESPN,
and like, Bro, you need to do something about this.
(01:33:26):
And if one of one of your rights, the people
that are paying are getting paid to be on your
network and they're coming to you saying this is a
little bit embarrassing, I think you might have to do something.
I think his main problem it's not not knowing football obviously.
I think he's too dogmatic as a broadcaster, which leaves
him no room for error or being human. Or you
(01:33:47):
see this sometimes with former athletes in basketball when they
get on the air. It's kind of the way the
pattern of the way Chris Weber speaks on TNT, where
he's just not a real person anymore. He never spoke
that way when he was player, and a separate paragraph
when you were talking about the reviewer not at the
winning touchdown catch over time for Minnesota, Al River on
(01:34:09):
the Leak's had officiating did tell Pool reporters the play
was reviewed and that they felt the contact did not
meet the standard to overturn for past interference, which immediately
brought out two guys we see on TV ex officials.
John Perry, for example, says, by written rule, the receiver
clearly created an advantage. If that had actually been called
(01:34:31):
on the field and reviewed, it would stand, and Terry
McAuley x ref. Says it's illegal for an offensive player
to extend his arm and create clear separation. That's been
the weirdest thing in this whole process, Steve and I
get it that these guys are on TV to help
us better understand the rules, but immediately of all the
really egregious pass interference calls and not agregious that haven't
(01:34:55):
been overturned this year, that this is the hill that
they're gonna suddenly we started for on this show that
the percentage of past interference within the rule that actually
get overturned is down close to the percentage of on
side kicks that actually get recovered with the new rules,
it's it's almost nothing. And one other thing from the
New Orleans game we mentioned last hour that Drew Brees
(01:35:15):
had the fumble late in regulation when they were in
field goal range. He was quoted on NFL dot Com
afterwards saying the fumble was really frustrating because there was
a miscommunication as to what we were doing, and the
ball shouldn't have been out of my hands, and all
of a sudden, that wasn't the route that was run,
and so I'm just trying to throw the ball into
the turf, he says, my hands going back to get
(01:35:38):
a piece of my arm. The ball comes out, and
I'm disappointed. That never should have happened. Blame somebody else.
I was waiting for it. I was waiting for somebody else.
When we come back to the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios,
let's talk odds, and our buddy Bertie Fratto just hit
us up with some interesting numbers involving the future of
one Tom Rady Blush. Your tweets have been fantastic. We'll
(01:36:02):
get to those coming up next. And Arnie's picks are
right around the corner. As you head down the home Stretch,
Our Stretch. On another edition of Arnie in Plank on
Fox Sports Radio Final Hours, Arnie and Plank on Fox
Sports Radio. It's a classic, Arnie. I was listening to
(01:36:23):
what you have? You have this? I don't want it?
If that's if it's that easy? I can't even speak tonight.
Are we done yet? Who is this? Sorry? Just killed it? Sorry?
It's tupac? Okay? Was this if? If you didn't tell
me that, I was gonna guess vanilla ice? So was
(01:36:44):
this before or after death? Row? Oh? Wait? Before death? Row? Oh?
Did I get that right? Did I get done? Right?
That right? I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
I'd be like Steve Carrell and great news. Guys. There's
a quick and easy way you could save money. Switched
to Geico. It only takes fifteen minutes to see if
(01:37:05):
you could say fift or more on car insurance. Go
to Geo dot com and see how much you could save.
Are we are we under selling a little bit? Arnie?
The performance of Russell Wilson today you sent me this
note from Sam Hawk Badger. Russell Wilson today accounted for
the highest percentage of his team's offensive yardage ever in
(01:37:27):
a playoff game in the Super Bowl era nine five
per cent of the team's offensive yardage. Now again, I
know the Eagles are beat up, but right, how is
that even humanly possible in a game in which you
didn't really seem like either team did much offensive lead
(01:37:47):
all because he passed for five yards and he ran
for forty five that the next best was Homer who
had twelve yards rushing and Lynch had had seven. So
I guess that is a is the answer because Marshawn
Lynch had the great TV run, but the two running
backs were seventeen carries nineteen yards, which is actually to
(01:38:08):
win a playoff game with only nineteen yards rushing from
your backs. The only team that did so with fewer
was the Patriots five years ago when they had fourteen
yards rushing and still beat Baltimore. Wow, crazy man, It's
It's one of the weirdest weekends based on where we
thought football was or is going in the NFL ranks
(01:38:28):
to sit around and talk about unders unders unders unders,
I mean you had one. I don't know if the
over under was in the Vikings New Orleans game, but
I'm willing to bet it hit at forty six, right,
I mean they all went they all went under. Seventeen
to nine was an NFL final score in a playoff
game twenty two to nineteen thirteen. I mean, yeah, you're right.
(01:38:51):
What in the hell happened this weekend? Now? I think
Dan Buyer made a good before in this afternoon on
Fox Sports Radio, a good point that the Seattle Philadelphia
was matchup between two such banged up teams. There was
no chance to see either team's best today. And the
thing is, even when Seattle had its two running backs,
the final score at Philadelphia in late November was nine.
(01:39:12):
And we had road teams three out of the four
road teams that win this weekend, and both number six
seeds are still alive, and apparently it's about half the
time in the last fifteen years that both six six
seeds win the wild card games. That's crazy. That's absolutely insane,
which means which means you're still alive, uh, with the
(01:39:32):
hope that if you're Seattle or I guess who would
that be in the a f C Houston of potentially
hosting an a f C championship game. I that's just
that's that's crazy to think about and possible, because this
is another thing that you wouldn't think would happen, but
it actually does happen. Can you actually beat the same
opponent on the road twice in the same season. That's
(01:39:55):
what the Texans are trying to do. They're back at
Kansas City. Apparently in about the last forty years, eighteen
teams have won two road games against the same team
in the same season. The Colts did it last year
twice at Houston Jackson Jets three times in the season.
Oh with A J. Dewey back then. So this is
(01:40:15):
another thing where we're saying, oh, that can't happen. Actually,
kind of a lot succeeds, maybe advancing, maybe road teams winning,
maybe beating the same team on the road twice. This
is not impossible. Leave it to Arnie Spaniard to drop
an a j very good. Yeah. Oh, by the way,
I saw a great early eighties stats. You want to
know you were talking early in the show that Josh
(01:40:36):
McCown was making his playoff debut at age forty. AP
had a great thing to tell you exactly how old
this guy is. He was intercepted in his first career
game back in two thousand two by Ray Crockett. Ray
Crockett got his first pick in a game against quarterback
Joe Ferguson thirty years ago, the same Joe Ferguson who
(01:40:57):
was O. J. Simpson's teammate. So this is this is
not six degrees of separation two or three. Josh McCown's
draft class. There were fifteen quarterbacks taken in two thousand two.
Until today, only two of them had even thrown a
pass in the playoffs, David Garrard Jacksonville and Patrick Ramsey
through one playoff pass for the Jets. That's it. I mean,
(01:41:19):
David Carr was the number one overall pick this year,
and of course he had no playoff passes her own
because he was busy getting sacked his entire career with
the expansion Texans. Now you know what this led me
to do, right I'm going back and looking at the
two thousand and two NFL draft. That's right in front
of me right now. Jeremy Shocky was in that draft,
Oklahoma boy A to Oklahoma Albert Haynesworth. Arnie's face was
(01:41:41):
top fifteen pick in that draft. Goes Josh McCown's draft.
People who still playing Uh, there's here's trivia for you.
Are you ready? There's actually one player in the two
thousand and two NFL draft, Arnie who's already in the
Hall of Fame. Think about that. Josh McCown played a
playoff game today and there's a guy that was in
(01:42:01):
his draft class that's already in the Hall of Fame.
You want to take a guess who it was? Not
Joey Harrington's It wasn't Joey Harrington Miami. Everyone was from
Miami in two thousand exactly. Doesn't really help too much.
And wild note too, he was the fourth player from
Miami that was taken in the first track. Actually, I'm sorry,
(01:42:24):
I have no idea Alonzo High School just a little
before the hell of a pick, though Ed Reid read
I should have gotten that Josh McCown was in ed Red. Yes, yes,
and he played today. Correct to think about that. Of course,
the only reason he played today is because Carson Wentz
was out early with the head injury. So you have
(01:42:46):
a starting quarterback in a playoff game that finishes with
three yards passing, you would think that would be the
record for low. It turns out the record is when
Tony Easton and that Super Bowl against the Bears defense
he went over for six yeah, no yards passing as
a starting quarterback in a Super Bowl. I don't think
that one's gonna be broken. I think, hey, speaking of man,
(01:43:09):
good numbers, and we could probably dork out on stats
all night long if we want to. But Arnie, I
know you're big on the spreads and the off shore odds.
And before we get to Sager's final upty of the night,
what do you make of what Bernie Fratto sent us
in which, if I'm reading this right, the Cleveland Browns
are the favorite if Brady doesn't play for the Patriots
(01:43:30):
next year, Bernie and being his landing spot from straight
out of Vegas when he comes on Saturday night. This
is what Bernie sent us is According to bet online,
Tom Brady is plus six hundred odds to retire, so
he's six to one um that he's going to retire
plus six hundred, while there's a minus one thousand that
will play. So obviously the overwhelming odds that he's going
(01:43:51):
to play. The odds from the return to New England
are one to two, while playing somewhere else are three
to two. Here are the odds the favorite the Browns
at five and a half the one Panthers six to one,
Raiders six to one, Chargers six to one, Cowboys seven
to one, Colts eight to one, and Tampa Bay nine
(01:44:13):
to one. So, um, that's a that's a little surprising
that the Chargers are with the Raiders and the Panthers
at six to one. Yeah, it is. And and you
know what, I guess the theory there would be if
he goes to Cleveland. That's where Josh McDaniels ends up,
and so he's going there too. I don't know if
it would be to mentor Baker because he's going on
year three of what would be a five year deal,
(01:44:35):
or if he's going there to take over and they're
moving on. But regardless, fascinating stuff and the offshore numbers
that are coming out here on the future of Tom Brady.
All right, when we come back, we owe you a
segment of Buyer Sell and your tweets have been fantastic tonight.
But first, Steve to Seger in the house one final
time on the show to get it's caught up on
everything going on in the world of sports. What's going on, Steve?
(01:44:56):
You know, we have mentioned often how NBA telecast too
many of them. The national telecasts are getting around one
million viewers so far this season, and even the Quick
Quick Lane Bowl got three million viewers. Okay, football, we
have playoff football this weekend. Let's get to some real numbers.
Bills Texans the lowest rated. I mean, that's why they
stuck it on Saturday afternoon twenty six million viewers. Lasterday show.
(01:45:20):
Last night, the Patriots home lost thirty one million viewers.
So you have to go back about five years to
get ratings like that for a Saturday wild card game,
and I'm sure today's weren't too bad for those two games.
With the Vikings winning and advancing, they're gonna have to
play on some short rest because it's a Saturday afternoon
at San Francisco for the Divisional round. Of course, since
(01:45:42):
this format started, teams that play in the Divisional round
on six days rest have a losing record five and
six teams, so that you're playing on the road, you're
playing against the higher seeded team, you're playing against a
team that has a buy. But the Fortys are going
to be playing their first playoff game at Levi State
him this Saturday. They haven't been to the playoffs as
(01:46:02):
a franchise since, and they had three road playoff games
and then moved into the stadium the next year. So
in Santa Clara this Saturday, chance of rain. Saturday Night
at Baltimore six chance of rain for Ravens Titans. Of course,
this is a week in advance whether forecasts do change,
but for Sunday's Houston at Kansas City, no rain. Temperature
(01:46:23):
in the forties. Next Sunday Night on Fox TV, Seattle
at Green Bay, cloudy and about thirty degrees. And as
far as Seattle's win at Philadelphia today, we mentioned Carson
Wentz left early with the head injury helmet to helmet
hit from Jedevan Clowney. The head referee, Shawn Smith, spoke
to a pool reporter afterwards said no UH flag was
(01:46:44):
thrown on that hit. Contact was deemed incidental. We didn't
see it to be a foul, and that Carson Wentz
was a runner, didn't give himself up, didn't slide feet first,
and quote, we saw incidental helmet contact in our judgment,
we didn't rule that to be a out. Okay. Seattle
wins seventeen to nine. And Philly had to have Josh
McCown make his playoff debut at age forty and get
(01:47:06):
sack six times. It was Russell Wilson with three twenty
five yards passing. He also had nine carries forty five yards.
Seattle was up three nothing late first half seventeen nine
the final. This is a Seattle team that lost the
wild card game a year ago at Dallas, missed the
playoffs entirely the year before. But they're still alive and
Seattle is eight and one on the road and going
(01:47:27):
on the road again. Affect. Seattle went six and oh
in the Eastern time zone this year. Meanwhile, how about
this for the Eagles this season. Yes, they had won
four straight to get in the playoffs, it's because they
kept playing their own division. They went five and one
against their own divisions teams. The Eagles were four and
seven against everyone else. They got a home playoff game
(01:47:47):
going four and seven against real football teams. People, crazy
Titan zach Ertz did play with the broken Rims had
two catches, Dallas Goddard seven catches, Jake Elliott and the
lost three for three on field goals. But how about
the physical freak from the draft last year, rookie dk
Metcalf of the Seahawks seven receptions, a hundred sixty yards
(01:48:08):
and a touchdown, So Seattle despite eleven penalties advances and
despite very little from the two running backs. As we
mentioned earlier, the Seahawks on third down conversions were eight
for fifteen. So they've lost three or four the past month,
and they're still alive. I've mentioned how the Saints just
missed in their game. The Eagles settled for a short
field goal to start the second half. Remember if they
(01:48:29):
had been able to punch that in, that means their
last two drives today would be totally different, because remember
the Eagles turned it over on downs, going for it
on the final two drives at about the Seattle twenty
five and at the ten. That's because they didn't get
the touchdown early second half. Eagles lose seventeen nine at home.
Minnesota's win was in overtime at New Orleans, tightened Kyle
(01:48:50):
Rudolph with the game winning touchdown reception on the first
drive of ot and repeating the Saints missed to forty
three yard field goal attempt into the first half and
Drew Brees fumbled late and regulation when they're in field
goal range. Dalvin Cook two touchdown runs. Michael Thomas had
seven catches in the loss. The Saints offense normally good,
only fifty four plays on twelve drives. Today Minnesota had
(01:49:12):
seventy four plays. By comparison, so Minnesota this Saturday at
San Francisco. Saturday Night, Tennessee at Baltimore, Cowboys officially parted
ways with coach Jason Garrett and a note about the
late game. In the NBA, Lakers are twenty nine and seven.
They beat Detroit one oh six ninety nine. Lebron James
triple double. Laker guard Avery Bradley left with a sprained ankle.
This note that the Lakers as a team tonight with
(01:49:34):
twenty block shots, eight of them by Anthony Davis wow
is correct. College Houpes in Michigan State beat Michigan. Back
to you a great stuff, Steve, great job tonight in
great news. There's a quick and easy way you could
save money. Switched to Geico, as we come to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. It's easy
to say or more on car insurance. Simply go to
(01:49:56):
Geico dot com or called eight nine four seven otto
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.
All right, Arnie, your choice. I've got three buyer sell
topics for you, or we can hit the tweets. Which
way would you like to go? Oh? Hit the tweets first.
I love the tweets, especially when they're ripping you. Uh.
That's kind of hard because after I read the two
(01:50:19):
that ripped me, they took a unanimous turn towards you.
So are you still in let's do it? Let's do it?
Here's your boy, senior heth a who thinks that there
should be a statue erected to you outside the studio,
which I still think. This is your burner account shot.
Arney Dallas already has their next coach and are probably
in negotiations as we speak, announcement to come in the
(01:50:42):
next week or two. They were just keeping Garrett as
their plan be until today. Why wouldn't you make that? Well,
I guess you have to wait till after the playoffs,
or at least you want to. Is he saying, what,
Sean Payton is the guy, since the are Mike McCarthy's
the guy, since you how to sleep over? I'm not
sure who he's pointing the finger out. Who's gonna be
the next head coach? Don't know, but I think kind
(01:51:04):
of the ideal is our idea ideal. I think the
idea is that because of the sleepover, they kind of
believe that Mike McCarthy is going to be the guy,
which probably will be, which does lead me into a
buy or sell, Arnie, buy or sell of the vacancies
currently in the National Football League. The Cowboys is the
best job. The Cowboys is the job that you can
immediately win at. The Cowboys job is a lifer, bye
(01:51:29):
bye and some more. By Yes, it is the best
job out there. It's the most high profile job out there,
and it has a lot of weapons. You've got the
running back sign and Ezekiel Elliott for a while. I'm
not sure what they'll do with that, but I gotta
assume they'll franchise tag him. You've got wide receiver with Cooper,
You'll have a good offensive line. The defense is certainly good. Um. Yeah,
it's it's a win win win situation. Other than dealing
(01:51:51):
with Jerry um As the GM Ornie the Great Opiner
who helped get me through Big Ben Show with some
incredible takes on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, Right,
how soon do you think that Jerry and Steven Jones
go to and Harbor and throw a boatload of Jerry
Bucks at Jim Harball us to Michigan fans might not
too might not be too disappointed if he goes. At
(01:52:14):
this point, you know what's kind of funny is that's
that's out of the blue name. No one's talking about it.
When we talk college coaches were talking Lincoln or Matt
Rule are Dan Mullen And as John Middlecoff pointed out,
the Cowboys have kind of gone out of nowhere whenever
it comes to some of the guys that they brought
(01:52:34):
on recently. You know, I mean, Jason Garrett wasn't really
not out of nowhere higher but Wade was definitely. Bill
Parcels was why not if things aren't going so well,
aren'ty to go get a Jim Harball. I don't think
Harball should be leaving Michigan except for the one job
that would be out there would be the Dallas Cowboys.
And you're right, we don't go ahead and there's not
any rumors out there. I don't know if they're interested
(01:52:55):
in him, but if if things go south, with Mike McCarthy.
I wouldn't think that Harbaugh would be too crazy of
an idea, at least to bring him in and talk
to him. I'm sure he would love the public, even
though it would probably hurt recruiting a little bit. Eddie writes,
here's an un answered question. Why didn't CBS show shots
of devastated Patriot fans soon after the major upset yesterday?
(01:53:16):
I smell a conspiracy and CBS is in on it.
Imagine if it was the Raiders. Wow, did you see
the clowns the same fans after the field goal? Oh?
Flipping off the camera, flipping off the cameras, those knuckleheads. Oh,
I'm sure they caught those guys. No problem, U c
l A Dodger. Frank writes, we were this close to
(01:53:37):
having both Ryan Tannehill and Josh McCowen advancing to the
divisional Roundwall Breeze and Brady sit at home. You want
to you want another wild How old is Josh McCowen.
He was Lane Kiffin's first quarterback when Lane Kiffin was
in his first year as the Raiders head coach. So yeah,
(01:53:57):
and then I went to elementary school with him. With
McCown's and KC sly right. I just looked at the
line for the Chiefs Texans and it's minus ten. Holy crap.
We have been playing great on both sides of the
ball the past few weeks, but this seems too high
for any playoff game. Go Chiefs. Yeah. I was a
(01:54:17):
little blown away as well. You heard earlier Todd. I
almost said, Todd McShay, you heard Todd Ferman, I'm in
draft mode. Sorry, you're Todd Ferman talk about it, and
he said, you've seen some corrective numbers where people betting
it up or betting it down. But I don't know.
I don't think that's too high on it with the
way that the Chiefs have been playing in how Houston
(01:54:37):
at home had to scratch and fighting clawe just to
get past the Bills. No, I think you get three
and a half for home field, so not in half
of it brought that down the six. I think you
get about two points because Houston had to play, you
had the bye week, so that brings it down the four.
I think that's about right. Kansas City about a four
point favorite, four point favorite better than than the Texas.
I think that's a perfect one. Out there all right
(01:54:59):
when we come back to the guy called Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Let's wrap up this bad boy with Artie's
picks next, and then Big Bin is back right here
on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, let's go, final segment, Artie,
final segment for the weekend. Thanks to lead a lap,
great job tonightly, John Middlecoff, Todd Ferman wore our guests.
(01:55:21):
Bobbo on the wheels of steel. He'll be fired up
about this cowboy coaching search all week long. Steve de
Sager on updates and perspective all night long. And thanks
to the millions and millions of editors behind the scene
to bring us all the audio that I didn't play.
And thanks most importantly do you Arnie for bringing the
(01:55:43):
fund tonight. Also great tweets. If we have time, we'll
read a few more, but before we welcome back Big
Ben Mallard. Arnie, what do you say, I don't know
what you're gonna pick outside of the NFL games. You
got one more college football bowl game before the national Championship.
So let's go Artie's picks to take us home on
a Sunday night into a Monday morning. Will you starting, Arnie?
(01:56:06):
All right, let's start before we get to the NFL games.
One note tomorrow two is gonna make his decision. Don't
have any inside source, but you know, just space that
Nick Saban's gonna be there, and just buy a good feeling.
I think he's going back to Alabama, big mistake. If
you ask me, I would tell him you gotta go pro.
I don't care if you're playing for the Dolphins, Bengals,
(01:56:27):
or anybody else in between. It doesn't make a difference
where you want to leave and what makes you think
you're gonna be in a better situation the following year. Um,
anyway back to the prediction to we'll be back for Alabama.
Mac Jones will transfer hopefully to my Arizona Wildcats. But
that's beside the pot. I like how you already have
your next quarterback pant Alright, let's get to the games Minnesota,
(01:56:51):
San Francisco. I think something specially is happening with the
Minnesota Vikings. If Cousins really is over the hump and
they still they've got the offensive web beens no disrespect
for San Francisco, and they've been phenomenal all year long.
But I kind of get the feeling there's gonna be
a close game. The lines at six and a half.
I would have loved to get that magic number and seven.
(01:57:12):
It doesn't look like I'm gonna get it right now.
Maybe by the end of the week. But give me
Minnesota plus the six and a half. At San Francisco,
the Titans are playing the Ravens, and I gotta tell
you very impressed with that Titans victory on the road.
But the Ravens, we've seen what they've been able to do.
Weather may be a factory here which would slow down Baltimore.
Ten is too many, Actually the line I think down
(01:57:35):
the nine and a half. I'm gonna take the lumber here.
Give me Tennessee plus the nine and a half over
the Ravens. Now the Texans and the Chiefs. We know
the Texans won earlier in the year, but with the
bye week, with the Texans having to have a big
come from mind victory in the second half, I think
this is a just a nice line for Kansas City
(01:57:57):
fans out there. I lay the nine and a half.
Chiefs probably win this one by two to U to
touchdown the seventeen points and Seattle and the Packers forget
about it. Seattle fans, it is O V E R.
You're lucky you got this far. Good year by you guys.
But it's all Green Bay in that one. I'll lay
the three and a half. Give me the Packers minus
(01:58:19):
three and a half. There you have my picks, two
of them, as you please. They are no longer strictly
for entertainment purposes only. Thank you, Thank you, thank you.
I gotta admit I was a little disappointed. I thought
we were getting towards that time where you might throw in,
say a pack twelve game, maybe your Arizona Wildcats this week. No,
(01:58:42):
they played, they played last night. They beat every We
beat the you know what out of the snot out
of Arizona State. So I got you know, I let's
get a little bit long in conference and then start
getting ready for March badness. I'm still, you know, it's
it's too much football right now. So I mean, you
don't you don't want to have a conversation of out
the showdown on what would that be Thursday night with
(01:59:04):
number four Oregon and Eugene Are you? Are you good?
I mean it's up to you. It's a big one
and four let's go which gey I didn't hear what
you said. Arizona and Oregon. Baby, you know, look, I
don't think we'll lose any games in the Pack twelve, hopefully,
but yeah, Oregon is real tough. What did Oregon just
beat Utah? Was that who they beat in the Pack twelve? Yeah? No,
(01:59:28):
it was a tough game and they only went by
like five or seven. I thought in that one off
to double check, maybe I guess. Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
I was thinking about their women's basketball score that I
saw when they went Yeah, that was a little bit
of a shocker. But you know, I'm going to Arizona
in that game. Of course, of course you are. Why
put logic into any exactly A couple of quick tweets
(01:59:49):
before we get out of here. I like this from
Senior Happy, who writes mental exercise. Switch the quarterbacks. Wilson
is a Saint versus the Vikings Breeze is a Seahawk
versus the Eagles. Which quarterback comes out with the win
in the playoffs? Do you think it matters too much
if you put Drew Brees on the Seahawks and Russell
(02:00:11):
Wilson on the Saints. I think the Saints are still
I think the Saints still comeout, would come out on top.
Will someone to have to do it all by himself? Uh?
And then one more here. I mean, there's so many
that we didn't get to tonight, and I apologize, but
Eddie writes, the only thing missing from tonight's a third
devastating playoff lass was Ricky Gervais Mocky the Saints after
(02:00:32):
the exit press conference and interviews. See the Golden Globes
opening monologue which I heard he was listen to it.
It was fantastic, It was fun. You realize this, Arnie.
Next Sunday night, when we sit in these exact same seats,
we'll have the championship matchups set up. Four teams will remain.
(02:00:54):
Who will they be? We'll talk about it all weeks,
starting with Ben Mallard. Next, Arnie, I'm Plank. This is
Fox Sports Radio.
