Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. So there's a strange
thing that is happening in the world of sports. You
may even be guilty of it as well too. I'll
tell you what that is coming up here in just
a couple of minutes Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. You
can listen to the show on the I Heart Radio app.
You can find us on Sirius x M channel eighty three.
(00:22):
If you're listening on any of our great Fox Sports
Radio affiliates. I think there's like three hundred of them
now all across the country. Wherever you are, we appreciate
you doing so as we come to you alive from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, where fifteen minutes could
save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Visit
Geico dot com for a free rate quote. So we've
(00:46):
got ourselves to Game seven's in the NBA and uh
the Warriors who turn around and blow out the Houston
Rockets on Saturday night in a game that looked like
it was gonna go Houston's way, especially in the first half.
Off all of a sudden, you went to halftime, you
came out and it was you could not see a
more opposite result from one half to the next than
(01:09):
what you got in that game. Houston think scored in
total twenty five points total the second half. It was
just a complete wipe out. Uh, the avalanche started. There
was no coming back, regardless of what Houston tried to
put together. And so the Warriors win Game six, dominant
second half. Clay Thompson lit it up, Steph Curry started
(01:32):
to get hot. And now we've got a Game seven
coming up on Monday night, and of course going in
there that you know, there was a little bit of
a handicap for the Houston Rockets being that Chris Paul
was injured with the hamstring injury, probably not gonna play
in the seven. In Game seven as well too, It's
highly unlikely Andrea Goodala also missed Game six, probably as
it looks now, not gonna play in Game seven from
(01:55):
what a lot of people are saying. But the one
thing that I found interesting about this whole series, and
I started to notice it a little bit last year. Um,
I started to notice it a little bit the year before,
but I'm really starting to see people jump all in
on this, and it may just be the whole tired
of seeing it tired of having to look at the
(02:17):
same thing. And that's natural, and we see it in sports,
we see it in life. Sometimes when you're around somebody
for a significant amount of time and you're always around him,
you kind of need a break, You kind of maybe
you just want to go out with the guys, you know,
you just just want something different. So I understand and
elements of that, but this is starting to take a turn,
and I find this fascinating. So people have grown to
(02:38):
dislike Golden State, right. They do not like the Golden
State Warriors. Whether it's you think Draymond Green's unlikable, or
you don't like this Steph Curry Shimmy's or you don't
like what Kevin Durant did by joining Golden State. Whatever
it is, people have grown to dislike Golden State, and
the optics and some of the narratives out there on
Golden State are well the kind of cheated to get
(03:01):
to where they are, you know, they kind of kind
of took the easy route to get to where they are. Okay, Um,
probably I don't know that you could be further from
that when discussing the Golden State Warriors, but I'll play along.
H Then you're hearing the old Wow, you know, the
Warriors lucked out again. You know they're lucky. They play
(03:21):
all these teams that deal with these injuries and the
Golden State Warriors lucked at again. Okay, Um, well no,
I mean there's been injuries on both sides and and
you know that's just part of how playoffs work. You know,
healthier teams usually advance. Sometimes an injury pops up. But
it doesn't mean you diminish every single championship team and
(03:42):
every single sport because they dealt with some injuries against
their opposing team. And then I'm seeing people after this
game transition from Chris Paul was out to the officiating.
Some of the calls went against Houston, and the officiating
(04:03):
was quote unquote awful, some of the worst officiating we've seen.
I saw a lot of that being floated around on
social media. So the narrative on their lucky is crap.
That's crap. Everybody needs some break, some sort of amount
of luck something in their life to give them an
edge at some point or another. Like that's that's just
(04:25):
I mean, you can go back and look at any
championship team and you'll find a game or a moment
in a game or a moment in a series, and
you can find something that went their way, a bounce
that went their way, that that if it had gone
the other way, we're talking about a completely different result.
But them the breaks. That's how it goes when you
(04:45):
talk about, well, they took the easy way to get
to where they are, you know, they kind of took
the shortcut here. No, that's not true. Uh. Steph Curry
was a draft pick, Clay Thompson was a draft pick.
Draymond Green was a second round draft pick. All of
those guys, by the way, weren't number one picks. They
weren't the first overall selection. Many people had the opportunity
(05:08):
to take those guys and they did not. And so
Steph Curry was there and the Warriors took him. Clay
Thompson was there and the Warriors took him. Draymond Green
was there and the Warriors took him. Andre Iguodala was there. Uh,
just a bidding war for andre Iguodala's services when he
decided to join Golden State. What there were one or
two teams maybe that we're in the hunt for Andrea Gadala.
(05:31):
Golden State signed him. Sean Livingston. Sean Livingston's leg almost
fell off as a member of the Clippers. To this day,
the most gruesome sports injury I've ever seen. Zach Miller's
last year for the Bears was awful. Sean Livingston. You
talked to people who were in the arena that day
and they were getting They were on the verge of
vomiting because it was so bad. Nobody was out there
(05:55):
trying to sign Sean Livingston, make him an impactful part
of a team. Golden State did so. Kevin Durant, yes,
was a big name free agent, but it was what
they did to that point that made them appealing to
Kevin Durant. So the whole will you know, they kind
of took a shortcut and all that. That's crap, that's
that's bogus. And I almost wonder if people look at
(06:17):
the Golden State Warriors and they think that how they
were constructed and the way that they play and how
dominant they are. I wonder if people look at the
Golden State Warriors and they go, you know, maybe this
isn't good for the NBA. In fact, we'll go go
out on a record and say this is bad for
the NBA because whoever comes out of the East doesn't
have a shot against Golden State. I think Boston is
(06:38):
a better matchup because I think they can defend the perimeter.
But Cleveland against Golden State is going to be a
wipe out. It was a wipeout last year and they
had Kyrie Irving on that team. So when you look
at Golden State, the easy thing to do would be
to say, well, you know this is this is just
not good for the NBA. You've got this dominant team
(07:00):
and they just keep winning and winning and nobody's close
to him, and it's just kind of boring and we're
just kind of sick of it. Now they're getting all
the officials to make calls for him, and now they're
getting more luck via injury against their opponents. This is
their Golden States. Just you know, this just isn't good
for the NBA. I can argue, if anything, Golden State
(07:20):
has been the best thing that's happened to the n
b A in a long time. The Warriors are the
best thing that's happened to the NBA in a long time.
First things, First, iron sharpens iron. You heard that term before.
That's be around the best compete against the best, study
from the best. An iron sharpens iron, you get better.
(07:44):
Houston made it a point this offseason, let's construct a
roster that we think can beat Golden State, or at
least compete with Golden State. Guess what they're in a
seventh game at home against Golden State. Teams around the
NBA are trying to figure out what they can implement
(08:08):
from Golden State in order to try and compete, to
try and make a run like Golden State is. Golden
State introduced a different style of basketball, not only professionally
but collegiately. They have phased out big men who can't shoot.
(08:29):
They've reintroduced big men who maybe physically can't make it,
can't be dominant down low, but can shoot from twenty
feet out. And because of Golden State, they've reintroduced this
entire new and this entire new way of playing basketball,
this entire new almost sport that looks so so far
removed from what we used to see back in the day.
(08:53):
Like they're also more relatable to people when you were
growing up at a certain point when you wanted to
be in the NBA, or we all wanted to be athletes,
or we all wanted to be professionals. At a certain
point you kind of realized, Okay, um, I'm not six
eight and I don't wait to fifty, so yeah, this
(09:15):
probably isn't happening for me, so I gotta figure some
other things out. But you know what if you grew
up and you're a little kid and you're skinny, and
you're getting beat up in the box, and all of
a sudden, there's an opportunity for you to look at
an NBA game and there's this little guy who just
throws up thirty footers and he's really really good at it,
(09:35):
and he's having an impact on a game, and he's
winning m vps and he's winning world titles, and you go, god,
he's not that much bigger than me. That's relatable. That's
great for the sport. It used to be the biggest
guy on the floor, winds, strongest guy on the floor,
always wins, most dominant. It's not like that anymore. And
that's because of what the Warriors have presented. They've presented
(09:58):
to you an option. This is the new way of basketball.
This is how it's done now. So when I'm watching
a game in which Golden State goes on a run
in the third quarter and the fourth quarter. That is
mesmerizing to watch. If anybody's ever shooting a basket in
(10:19):
a park, uh, shot a paper wad into a trash can,
whatever it is, You're watching Golden State go on these runs.
And there's not a lot of things that are more
exciting in sports than when Golden State gets hot and
they're trailing. It's unbelievable. So how could you watch that?
And the first thought is to run to your social
(10:41):
media account and go lucky and they get all the calls.
Why can't you just embrace it? They have made the
NBA so much more enjoyable to watch. Just embrace it.
It's fun to watch. They've presented a whole new style.
They landed one big free agent and big whoop Lebron
(11:02):
was out there forming super teams. They landed one big
free agent because of what they were able to do
before he got there. So instead of just trashing it
and thinking, oh man, we're tired of all this, this
is just this is boring, This is sol Embrace what
you're watching, man, like we haven't seen this before. This
(11:23):
is a brand new almost invention that we're getting to
watch in real time. We should just not only accept it,
but embrace it, welcome it, enjoy it, because when it's gone,
who the hell knows what we're gonna be left with
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Jonas Knox Fox

those next here on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox, Fox
Sports Radio Company Alive here from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Coming up here in just a couple of minutes.
Some interesting comments regarding a Super Bowl champion that I'm
(12:34):
sure will spark some controversy over the next couple of days.
We'll get to that here. Coming up in just a
couple of moments. I do want to welcome in the
crew here on Fox Sports Radio they'll be writing Shotgun
with me until six am Eastern Time. Ladies and gentlemen,
this is odd. Say hello to a very sober Iowa. Sam,
who's our tech producer here at Fox Sports Radio. So sober, Yeah, Sam,
(12:59):
who sided UH early early in the morning that it
was time to put down the bottle. Yeah, it was
time to uh to send me videos of the Jake
and the Fat Man TV intro morning. Yeah, you brought
up Jake and the Fat Man. It's one of those things.
I mean, I was born in eighty six that show
ran until By the way, Jake and the Fat Man
(13:20):
was a TV show from the eighties, it was like
eighty seven and ninety two, and it's one of those
things you remember, but you don't remember what the characters
looked like. You just remember the name. And I just thought, well,
Jonas brought that up on the show once, and I
thought it was just funny to send him the intro
and just like we could relive it a little bit.
Jake and the Fat Man. I just love that and
make sure you stick around. Next hour, Sam will break
down Doubledare from Double Dare and then Golden Girls. Uh. So,
(13:44):
Sam is here. Mike Mayor is your executive producer here
at Fox Sports Radio. Great block by Mike. How are
you doing, Jonas? Yeah, I'm good, I'm good. Uh. What's
going on, Mike? Uh? Not a whole lot. Big Game
seven for Lebron and the cat. Oh you're nervous. I
can tell. I'm I'm shaking. Man. It's a it's a
(14:05):
game sevens are never fun, especially when you have a
vested interest in the team. So, I mean, we'll see
how it goes. We'll see how goes. It's it's always
good to have Lebron on your side. We'll check in
with Mike. By the way, Mike Mayor is a diabetic.
You know what I hear is good for diabetics on
the eve of a game seven, like right before Game
seven starts, Mike is that here's good twinkies. Oh twinkies,
(14:29):
and uh, just put me out of my misery before
I have to watch and and a pepsi with with
sugar added in. So I'll just pass out and we'll watching.
Ralph Irvine, the most violent man in sports talk radio,
is here. He is your Aloha, Jonas Brot. It's a
(14:49):
beautiful Saturday night in the Sunday morning. Yeah, definitely is
Ralph um Ralph. Also, I'm gonna try and hold it
together for the next couple of hours. Is he will
be bringing the scraps an hour three, and I've already
been told it's going to be a doozy. There will
be no problem holding it together for the next two
hours thereafter, no guarante. So we will be here until
(15:12):
six am Eastern time here on Fox Sports Radio. Alright,
So reminder, coming up on less than ten minutes from now,
David Anderson, BFF of the show, former NFL wide receiver,
is gonna be with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Always fun to catch up with Dave. Who the hell
knows where that conversation is gonna go. I have it
on good authority he's already been drinking and he's watching
some Indiana Jones marathon, so you can imagine where that
(15:35):
conversation is gonna go. Um okay. So I've said this
from day one that the play that is the equivalent
to the glacier hitting the side of the Titanic for
the Seattle Seahawks and they're this era of Seahawks football
(15:57):
was the Russell Wilson interception of the goal line and
how the teammates and the players on that team, it
felt like from the outside looking in, couldn't let that
play go, not handing off to Marshawn Lynch, the opportunity
to win another Super Bowl. It felt like they couldn't
let it go, and almost like they never recovered from it,
(16:18):
they never got over it. And so I felt like
that was that play. There was the equivalent of the
glacier hitting the boat, and after that all they did
was take on water and it was only a matter
of time. And now you're going into next season and
you're looking at a team that if you were to
go through, the only team that you would project Seattle
(16:40):
having a better year then right now would be Arizona,
because you think that the forty niners are stronger, you
think the Rams are stronger. And then if Arizona lands,
and maybe Josh Rosen is a stud, maybe we're talking
about a last place team in Seattle. So that right there,
to me, was the moment that sort of sealed the
fate of that era of Seahawks football as far as
(17:04):
and and the idea of winning another Super Bowl and
and partly listen, the decision on its own was questioned
by guys in that locker room. They weren't happy about
the decision, they were bothered by the decision, but also
the historical ramifications to some of those players. And I've
always said that that there's you know, deep down, you
(17:27):
always know the truth before ever anybody else does. Like
you just feel it, whether you know if you're really
sick or if you're really really sick, you know if
something's wrong. Um, you can tell, like if you ever
watched a player get hurt, you can usually tell by
looking at their face whether or not they know how
serious it is. And you just you just get that idea.
(17:51):
And with the Seahawks, I think those players acknowledged that
that was an opportunity. There's a big difference between winning
one super Bowl and winning two. It's it changes the
conversation completely. Okay, how much different historically is the conversation
between Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger. How much different is
(18:17):
the conversation about Peyton Manning. Now since he won that
second Super Bowl, this story in the narrative and the
and the discussion changes completely. And the Seahawks looked at
that as their opportunity, as their chance to win that
second Super Bowl and when the decision was made to
throw it on the goal line, they deemed that and
(18:37):
I always felt that that they deemed that as ruining
their chance at history, especially a vocal team like that
who speaks up and speaks out and is encouraged by
their head coach. The fact that they had an opportunity
and and are so in tuned with history and things
going on that it was sort of taken away from
(18:58):
him based on that this agent. So then Cliff April,
who was on that team, Cliff April, who won a
Super Bowl with the Seahawks the year before but lost
that Super Bowl of the New England Patriots, was on
David Damashek's podcast recently, and uh, I had to say
(19:19):
this about that play and how the players reacted to
head coach Pete Carroll afterwards. The team would have bought
in more into what Coach Carroll was saying instead of,
you know, going the opposite way of Hey, this is
what we thought, we believe, this is what we thought
the foundation of the team was, and that's not what
happened in that in that particular play. So I think
(19:39):
guys started kind of questioning him a little more so
then actually followed his lead. If we would have won
the Super the situation sped regardless of whoo who took
the blame. You know, it's just the fact that we
were so close and we weren't able to get it.
So I think a lot of guys got turned off
by the message. It's why I'm fascinated to see how
this offseason into the season and plays out for the Patriots.
(20:02):
Like I'm I'm fascinated. I I just want to see
it because look, I'm not buying that sitting Malcolm Butler
as a comparable to throwing an interception at the goal line.
But I do wonder how much it really did bother
players on that team. They've spoken openly about it, even
players that aren't there, Danny Amendola. That's why that's a
fascinating situation to watch, because the Seahawks never let it go.
(20:25):
They're still talking about it. I wonder how it turns
out for New England this offseason. Jonas Knox Fox Sports

with our bff on the show, David Anderson. All right,
We're going to ask him whatever the hell we want.
(20:46):
We might even ask him an NBA Finals project prediction.
Who knows he's been drinking. He's been watching Indiana Jones.
This could go off the rails in a hurry. That
is coming up next. But for all the latest, it's
Ralph Vernon. Well, thank you very much, Jonas. And of
course it was Game six on Saturday night, Golden State
taking on Houston and on quite the night for Clay Thompson.
(21:06):
Tapson though, is wide open hill fire? And why not?
Why not? You're Clay Thompson and you're on fire. His
night three of the night, he's got thirty five seven
the game of the Warriors Radio Network with the call
as Golden State as a one fifteen eighty six winner
over the Rockets. Thompson finished with those thirty five points,
(21:28):
hitting nine of fourteen three pointers. Game seven of the
series will be in Houston, and that will be on
Monday on the Diamonds. Cleveland belted four home runs. They
outscore Houston eight to six. Extra innings needed in Seattle
in the twelve inning, Mike Zunino's solo shot gave the
Mariners a four three win over Minnesota. The Padres scoring
(21:49):
the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. They won in
l A, beating the Dodgers seven to five. Online car

way is easier. David Anderson, former NFL wide receiver BFF
of the show, tries to join us every single week
(22:31):
when he's sober here on Fox Sports Radio. Dave, thanks
for thanks for the time power. I want to start
off with the situation in Seattle with the Seahawks where
Cliff April came out on a podcast recently and said
that's the team's sort of lost faith and kind of
tuned out Pete Carroll after that decision in the Super
Bowl to throw out the goal line which resulted in
(22:52):
the interception. Um, what do you make of the comments?
I do think that like that there is something to that.
You saw the kind of the downward spiral that that
the Seahawks went after that. Um, the things that we're
coming out about the locker room, how certain players are
you know, finger playing and other players and so, um,
(23:12):
I think they're disappointing. The way Pete handled it at
the Super Bowl. I mean, he didn't obviously throw Russell
Wilson under a bus, and that's definitely kind of the
position he couldn't take. But for something, for one reason
or another that probably none of us will ever really
know about it, it did divide that locker room. Have
you ever been on a team where they've turned on
a coach like that? I mean, I think there's a
(23:33):
few instances on a professional team where uh, you get
put in a position like that. Right, I didn't even
play in a playoff game, so um, yeah, no one,
no one really cared what happened in East and you
weren't good. But like if something happened in the Super Bowl, yeah,
I can see it being a little more meaningful and
carrying a little more weight behind it. And because you
spend time in Seattle, you were there in the off
(23:55):
season and you spend time around those guys. Was that
before that was? So that was before the Super Bowl?
Right right before? So then this the do you think
Pete Carroll maybe is sort of a little bit to
blame because he kind of welcomed the chaotic atmosphere of
it all. He welcomed his players speaking out, He welcomed
his players thinking for themselves and sticking up for themselves
(24:19):
and being vocal. And then he makes a decision and
everything that he groomed and sort of accepted came back
and bit him in the ass a little bit. That's
exactly what you bit him in the butt is exactly
what you're talking about, room, And uh, that's that's what
he You know, you you read what you sow to
a degree as a coach, and if you're gonna bring
(24:41):
in certain type of players and they kind of play
a certain brand of football, they represent in a certain
kind of attitude. After a while, Um, that gets out
of hand and you can't really handle it. And I
think Pete has a very positive kind of raw rock
kind of mentality, and that wears on people after a
while after that, because that's not what always need. Sometimes
they need to be whipped into place. Sometimes they need
(25:03):
some discipline. Sometimes they need they don't need raw row.
Sometimes they need to beat down. You know, it's it's
tough to be a head coach of fo football team
when you're probably making what less than the backup right tackle,
but you're in charge of all these people. David Anderson,
former NFL wide receiver BFF of The Show with Us
Year on Fox Sports Radio. Jonas knocks um okay, So
(25:26):
Levy on Bell has released a rap song. Now we're
not going to play that rap song because it stinks.
But in the rap song, he's talked to, he's spoken
about it. He needs to be my new interim music.
I don't know what happened with Corey Feldman, but we
gotta do some research because that that song was hot
for like an hour and a half and it was
(25:47):
only because of you. You're the only person pushing that thing. Well, no,
it was actually so that Lean Bell does he at
least drop it on, Like, is there an MTV two
is still I don't, I don't know. I think there's, yeah.
I think pretty sure it's the one with the weird logo. Okay,
So so he he releases this rap single and he's
(26:08):
talking about how you know, the contract demands he wants
blah blah blah blah blah. My whole thing on this
is I think the Steelers are handling this perfectly. Okay,
he's gonna make fourteen and and for Levy on Bell,
I think he's fine as well too. And the Steelers
don't anticipate he's going to be there before September. But
if you just look at what he's going to make
this year, he's gonna make fourteen million plus on a
(26:31):
franchise tag if he signs it, which is almost double
what the next closest running back is going to receive
annually this year. If I'm the Steelers, why would I
commit long term to a guy who if you're not
going to draft a running back high because you feel
they break down, are you really going to invest that
much money into a running back a position that we
(26:51):
know breaks down quicker than any other. He's a great player,
but he's had injuries, there's been failed drug tests, there's
been all sorts of the field issues that have come up.
If I'm the Steelers, I think I think they're playing
this perfectly. Yeah, I mean, I mean they've obviously come
to the table and offered long term deals for him,
(27:12):
and he just wasn't interested. Um So now they're forced
to do this one year the time kind of thing.
And he can make the most of it, like Kirk
cousins it too, because he can hit free agency, um
after a couple of years these uh, these franchise tags,
So you could definitely come out on the other side
looking great. But um, as for the for the Steelers, yeah,
that their backs are against the wall with Bell. They're
(27:34):
definitely gonna play him and pay him this year. Um
so maybe they realize, hey, we gotta keep Ben Brown
and Bell together, um for maybe one, maybe two more
years and then we got to figure it out. But like, yeah,
they're in a weird long term situation. And I know
Antonio Brown came out and was sort of commenting on
(27:56):
you know, it's hard to get better if you're not
here and all that. Um, would you would that be
something you would do if you had a teammate who
was in a holdout that was trying to get more money.
Is it just sort of one of those hey, mind
your business, this is for me and for my family.
The players sort of understand that, or they're more players
like Antonio Brown who get annoyed with the idea of
(28:16):
them being out there trying to get better while a
teammate's hold now for more cash. I think it depends
if you've been in that that in a similar situation,
right Like some guys I think, like Antonio Brown deserved
to get paid a lot of money as as well,
and are are handling it differently. Um, when you have
players that probably have never been in a position to
hold out or or even close to being vocal about
(28:39):
what they should or shouldn't do, UM, that that doesn't
really make sense. There are there are a two degree
to have and the have knocks on the NFL locker room,
And um, only a certain you know, only handful of
people could really tell Bell what they think you should
be doing, and Antonio is one of them. So, UM,
you see it every now and then on on a team,
but you gotta make sure it's the right guy and
(28:59):
I'm guessing those guys are pretty close, so um, they
probably have more. Uh, let's just say fruitful conversations. I
do the person. I do it to the media. David Anderson,
former NFL wide receiver, with us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Jonas Knox Um, we were talking a lot last week
about the kickoff rule, what they're gonna do with the
kickoff rule, how it could change the sports, so on
(29:21):
and so forth. And I thought this idea was nuts
when they first presented it because it just sounded like
a big gimmick where the Baltimore Ravens have suggested on
the kickoff that you get an extra point if your
kicker can get it through the uprights. Now, Justin Tucker's
maybe the best kicker in football, so it's easy for
them to say more. I'm thinking about it, man, It's
(29:43):
not that bad of an idea, Okay. I know, I
know they great idea, will never adopt that, but like that,
that is a that is a decent idea, okay, because
it here's why you want to reduce the number of collisions, right,
that will reduce the number of collisions you wanna, you
wanna you know, make that play and keep it exciting,
(30:04):
but still keep it in football. That's one way to
do it. So I I acknowledge that it's probably never
gonna happen, but I don't think it's the worst idea
in the world. Well, just people are gonna are going
to react and behave according to what they're incentivized to do, right,
And if you just uh kneel right or if you
(30:25):
not neel, like it like the Hansom stuff. But if
you get a touch back and you get the twenty
five yard line, then the best case scenarios inside the
tent and so everyone's trying to figure out how to
get the ball, but all of a sudden, adding a
point as a possibility, now that's the best case in
everyone's going to be going for that, and they're incentivized
(30:46):
to try to kick the ball through the upright. So
you might see a team not even have a good
field goal kicker um, but he's a huge long distance
guy and gives you a chance to kick it in there.
So yeah, I kind of like it. And then like
it basically takes away the touch back or it's either
or touchback or point. So it's kind of fun, but
that will never happen. Yeah, I know it's too We
(31:06):
can only dream, all right, David Anderson, former NFL wide
receiver Before I let you go, Um, you played a
long time in Houston. I know you are very popular
on the airways of Houston. I actually had somebody reach
out to me and said, hey, I heard David Anderson.
He does a weekly hit in Houston, does a regular
hit with the guys on Tuesday afternoons as well. There's
nothing wrong with that, man, I mean, everybody's entitled to that,
(31:29):
and sometimes you gotta. Yet it's coming from speaking to
the biggest he look, um there, there are there are
so many things that I want to say to that
right now, and I will not because I will no
longer be allowed to be a whore because I'll be fired. Um,
but let me ask you this. So you've got Rockets
Warriors Game seven, you got Celtics Calves Game seven. How's
(31:50):
this play out? As we get an expert NBA pick
from a former NFL player, it's still gonna be I mean,
I think Lebron James is still the best player in
the NBA, hands down. And when you have one game
to play, you gotta put Lebron James on your squad
because you think you're gonna win. So I'm gonna take
as much as it hurts me. I gotta take the
(32:11):
cast of the Celtics in Boston. I would like to
see Boston pulled out because I I think they're really
fun team to watch and that they would have a
better chance against the Warriors. So I think, um, both
the way teams are gonna pull this off. It is frustrating, sad, disappointing,
a lot of emotions, Um that last game, just because
(32:35):
being in Los Angeles and I haven't been a Clipper
fan for a while. Um, I've seen him do that
a while for a couple of different times throughout his career,
and now that he's so close, you don't want to
see him here it again. But at the same time,
you're like, man, this has happened in your career, what
is the issue? So, uh, that's frustrating, and for that
you gotta take the Warriors, And because of Lebron, you
(32:56):
gotta take the cast. So nothing really expert about it,
but I mean, gonna be the same one. Well, look,
I was expecting you to come on and ball wash
the city of Houston because you played for so long
there but instead you're willing to go on the air
here nationally in the well, how about this? Do you
know what happened to me one time as I was
sitting courtside with Andre Johnson, I remember that I'm having
(33:16):
a cameraman across. I'm like, oh, I'm gonna get like
the really cool Hey, there's a celebrity sighting up on
the JumboTron. Nope, cannon right by David Anson Andrea Only.
And then I think they went to like, um, I
don't know, some famous chef or something. Oh man, Yeah,
you know what, good for you? I picked the Warriors too.
I didn't know that story. You're good for that? Good
(33:38):
for Dave Anderson. Just total disrespect people. I'm like the
arrested development of the Houston fan base. I have like
a very niche, kind of awkward fans base that likes me.
Well he is, Uh, you're you're our number one go
to here. You're the celebrity of this show here pal.
So I don't know if that's worth anything. It probably isn't.
But David Anderson, I'm still waiting for my paychecks. So yes,
(34:00):
worst worth so far, worth nothing. Listen, you want to
know what dedication is this man paused his Indiana Jones
Marathon and a bottle of wine so that he could
do this interview here in the midnight Pacific time our
here on Fox Sports Radio. David Anderson. Get him on
(34:22):
Twitter at David Anderson eighty nine, and if you're upset
about his picks, let him know about it on Twitter
at David Anderson. Thanks, pals. Jonahs knocks Fox Sports Radio
Comedy Alive from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Always
fun with with Dave. He's a wild man, all right.
Coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio. I noticed
(34:44):
something about two sports and this actually might might actually
cover a lot of sports. But I noticed something I
think you have as well too. We just haven't really
spoken out loud about it. That's coming up next year
on Fox Sports Radio. Jonah Knocks Fox Sports Radio coming
(35:06):
to you live here from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. So, uh,
we're talking earlier. I don't I don't get the whole
dislike of the Golden State Warriors. I understand that maybe
you've seen it a lot before and so you get
annoyed with it, and it's like we've already seen this,
and that's fine, but I think the Warriors have done
a lot of good for basketball. But the one thing
(35:26):
that that I noticed about this game and the game
that that eventually turned into a complete wipeout in which
Houston just melted in the second half and Golden State
got hot and it was just unbelievable to watch, is
I And I don't know if this is just a
Golden State Warriors and Lebron James thing. And I don't
(35:50):
want to call out basketball because the last thing I
want to do is call out anybody and say WHOA
you know they're they're soft or there. Because I listen,
it's like people. I saw it sweet earlier from a
guy who said, yeah, Kevin Durant has no heart. He's
got he's got no guts. That's why he took the
easy way out going to Golden State. All right, man, okay,
(36:13):
because you're such a badass. I mean, what do you
talk like, these guys are the best in the world.
They're the best in the world this whole year. You
don't have guts and all. It's just it's crazy talk.
But I have noticed this about the n B A
and and and just in looking at these games going
on right now to where I don't want to say
(36:34):
that that they're quitting. I don't want to say that
they're that that they're giving up. But I do notice
in the NBA it does feel like more players and
more teams kind of accept their fate a little bit
earlier than NFL teams. Do you know what I mean?
(36:54):
Like there's and I don't and I'm not saying. Maybe
it's a physicality different. Maybe it's because you're constantly tested
physically that you can't just sort of walk through something
or get lazy in the middle of a play because
you're gonna get hurt or kode. So there's there you
can't really do that. But it's almost like there's a
(37:17):
line on one of my favorite movies, No Country for
Old Men, where Harbier Bardam, who is who plays Anton Sugar,
maybe the greatest villain in the history of movies, is
talking with Woody Harrelson and he says to him, you
should admit your situation, basically admit the situation you're in
and just sort of accept it, and there'd be more
(37:39):
dignity with it. And I wonder if maybe players, especially
when going against Golden State and going against Lebron kind
of accept and admit their situation in games and just
look at it and go, that's that's so good that
I can't come back from that. I'd rather just live
defied another day. And I don't want to say that.
(38:00):
And it's not that they're giving up or quitting, because
I don't think that's the right word to use. That's
that's too too much of a diss But I would
say that they almost look at it and go And
maybe there's it's smart to do it. Maybe it's you know,
admitting where they're at and admitting what the situation is
and saving it for a final game. Maybe that's a
smart thing to do. Maybe they're playing it right. But
(38:20):
it almost seems like they're they're willing to concede defeat
earlier than other sports would. And I've noticed that a
lot in the playoffs, like and look, players always no
first Okay, Like there's a so there's an m M M.
A trainer for us Sahabi and he had this this
(38:41):
term that he came up with and he calls it
the touch of death and he says there's certain fighters
and he was he's been a trainer for a lot
of world champions, most notably George St. Pierre, who's one
of the greatest of all time and for us as
Sahabi came up with this term. He calls it the
touch of death, and he says that there's certain fighters
that when you're in the cage and you're fighting them,
(39:03):
or in the ring and you're fighting them, they hit
you and it just feels different than everybody else. Connomer
Gregor is one of those. Mike Tyson's one of those,
Like there's been others, but like they hit you and
it and you almost feel as a fighter that yeah,
that's not normal, Okay, that's that feels a lot different
(39:23):
than than other guys. Like they're just given this what
he termed it, this touch of death, to where when
they make contact flush with you, it's a game changer. Psychologically,
you're not the same afterwards. And I wonder if when
you're in a game against a team like the Golden
State Warriors, or you're in a game against a guy
(39:46):
like Lebron James and they start pulling away from you,
if it's almost like you feel it and it's like
that touch of death where you you get a taste
of it and you go yeah, this is different. I I.
There is no answer to that. There is no I I.
It's basically it's no longer about whether or not I
(40:06):
want to decide on coming back in this game. It's
where whether or not I want to fall here or
two minutes from now, or go to sleep right then
and there like it's it's just a different level. And
I think that is playing out in these games because
you watched on Saturday night when Houston got down and
Golden States started rolling, it was over. That was a rap.
(40:29):
That game was finished, and that's why we've got two
game Seven's Jonas Knocks Fox Sports Radio more on FSR next,
there's a terrible thing happening. Don't be a part of it.
Whatever you do, don't go to this side of the
argument in sports. I'll tell you what argument that is
coming up here and just a couple of minutes, Jonas Knox,
(40:49):

(41:12):
rate quote. So we have got two game seven's. We've
got a Game seven in Boston coming up later tonight,
Monday night. We've got Game seven between the Rockets and
the Warriors. And that was due to the fact that
the Houston Rockets proceeded to defecate down the inside of
their legs collectively as a team in the second half
(41:35):
against the Golden State Warriors. Just an unbelievable turnaround as
Houston went in at the half with a lead, uh,
feeling pretty good about themselves, only to score twenty five
points total in the second half. So they were they
were outscored. I want, I want to say it was
(41:57):
a thirty nine points outscored by thirty nine points by
out this correct. If it's not, who cares, you're probably
drunk right now anyways. But just in a complete embarrassment
for the Houston Rockets in the second half, but with
a three to lead, they live to fight another day.
And so we wait for Game seven coming up on
Monday night. And my old thing on on Golden State
(42:17):
is people seem to dislike them more and more as
we go along that there seems to be a and
maybe it's fatigue. Maybe you're tired of seeing them, Maybe
you're tired of the winning, maybe you're tired of the
shimmy whatever. But I don't know how you can't watch
that team and not be totally mesmerized with what you see,
especially when they get going the way that they do.
(42:39):
I mean, it is impressive to watch. Man. You see them,
and Clay gets hot and Steph gets hot, and they're
running up and down the floor, and they're shimming and
all of that. It's it's crazy. Think about it like this.
You've been watching basketball, you're a fan, you're listening to
this show. You're a fan of the NBA, or you're
(43:00):
fan of basketball. You've been watching basketball for however long
you've been watching it, twenty years, thirty years, forty years, whatever.
What were the most exciting plays all throughout your youth
growing up in basketball? Okay, most exciting plays We're always
(43:22):
like slam dunks, alley you things like that. Explosive plays.
People listening up in Seattle, remember Sean Kemp? How much
fun was it? To watch Sean Kemp play guy was unbelievable.
What an athlete? Remember those great slam dunk contests. Remember
when the slam dunk contest used to be you know,
like not crappy. You can watch in and go, oh,
(43:44):
this is really Golden State is the most exciting team
in the league because they shoot twenty five footers, Like,
think about that. They've made that the most exciting thing
in the NBA. So to me, I don't know how
you can't look at that and embrace that and say
(44:04):
this is this is unbelievable to watch. So there's a
fatigue to it, and a lot of people aren't. They
don't like the shimmying and the celebration of the show
budding and all that stuff. And then you heard a
lot of the excuses after all, you know, they get
all the calls, man, they're getting all the calls, and
blah blah blah. Okay, fine, they get all the calls.
Well we'll play into that. But Mike D'Antoni, because the
(44:27):
big question for Houston going into Game seven. In the
first half, they look good first half, they look strong,
They look like, uh, they had an opportunity to close
this thing out. They were playing really well, James Harden
was playing really well, and then the second half arrived
and they fell apart. Mike D'Antoni was asked afterwards about
the status of Chris Paul heading into Game seven. Are
(44:50):
you any more optimistic that Chris might be able to
play a game soon after the kind of the two
days of treatment. I'm not thinking about it because I
don't know. I have no idea and I was in
pre mad Just let you know, and I'm pretty good,
but uh, the doctors or you know, the tell me.
Here's the thing that I started to see float out
(45:11):
there a couple of days ago. Started after Game five
Game five, a game in which Golden State lost, I
started to see the oh, here we go again. Chris
Paul's injured, Golden State's gonna luck their way to another finals.
Golden States lucky, luckiest team in the NBA another injury.
(45:33):
Because people go back to the first year they won
the title, Kevin Love was hurt, Kyrie Irving got hurt
in Game one, and so they felt like they lucked
their way to a championship that year. Then they show
out Kauai Leonard got hurt in a series against Golden
State and how would that have changed the series? And
(45:53):
then you've got all all the other you know now
that Chris Paul gets injured, and so people look at
it and they go, man, And if they do get
to the finals, they're gonna face uh who, you know,
if Kevin Love is still can cussed, they're gonna face
an injured Calves team again, or you know, Gordon Hayward
and Kyrie Irving are out, They'll they'll face a banged
(46:14):
up Boston Celtics lineup again. This team is just so lucky.
Here's a reality. And I know that this is going
to hurt a lot of people out there, and this
might upset some people, but here's just a reality. And
you might even call it a dirty little secret. Okay,
The reality is this. Any amount of success and any
(46:36):
successful person out there has needed a little bit of
luck along the way. That's just a fact. I don't
care who you are. I don't care if you're a
movie star. I don't care if you're a rock star.
I don't care if you're a professional athlete. I don't
care if you're a multibillionaire. Because you made your fortune
(46:56):
on real estate. Something had to bounce your way in
order for you to get to where you are. That's
just a fact. You can sling the hard work crap
all you want. A lot of people bust their ass,
but a lot of people don't end up getting the
brakes that some people do. It's not an excuse. You
still need to keep swinging the axe, keep trying. What's
(47:17):
the Thomas Edison quote? Many of life's failures are people
that were so close to success but they didn't realize
it before they gave up. That's a quote spot on.
So many times, we're so close to getting exactly what
we're pursuing, but because we didn't realize how close we were,
we walked away from it. So anybody that has any
(47:40):
amount of success needs luck. So save the luck crap
for somebody else. Save it. And I'm tired of seeing
people bitch and moan that golden Steak gets all the brakes.
Shut up, stop like stop. I worked my ass off
for this gig. I've busted my ass, I've traveled across country.
I've been broke, I mean you, you name it. We
(48:02):
not to bore anybody out there, but I busted my
ass for this job. Guess what I needed a break
here there. I needed to bump into the right person,
uh in a in a station by a coincidental meeting
in Denver in order to get connected with somebody in
l A who gave me an opportunity and like, I
needed things to happen like I needed like and I
(48:23):
worked my ass off. But you need breaks in order
to get to where you are. Tom Brady is the
greatest quarterback I've ever seen, greatest quarterback of all time.
You can argue it. We can get into that debate,
and we'll do that during the summer when there's nothing
else going on. But for this conversation here, Tom Brady
is the greatest quarterback of all time. All right, why
(48:44):
don't we go through some of tom Brady's Super Bowl moments? Right,
let's go through tom brady super Bowl moments. This will
be a fun little exercise, all right. So, um, Tom
Brady in almost every single one of his Super Bowls
has gotten a bounce or a break or something that's
gone his way. And we're talking about, you know, just
(49:05):
in those games, whether it was a missed assignment on
the final drive against the Rams that led to the
first Super Bowl and Adam Vinitary kicking a game winner
in that game against the Rams, Whether it was John
Casey kicking the ball out of bounds for Carolina which
gave the Patriots the ball at the forty yard line
(49:26):
after Carolina had tied the game, Whether it was the
Seahawks electing to throw on the goal line, thus resulting
in an interception and giving Tom Brady another Super Bowl,
Whether it was Julian Edelman making that incredible grab that
bounced around a bunch of times two years ago in
that Super Bowl against Atlanta. You need a bounce to
go your way? What about the tuck rule? What about
(49:48):
And I say all this as one of the biggest
Tom Brady defenders on the radio. I love Tom Brady.
I think he's fantastic. He deserves all of it. I
don't think any one of those things that happened in
any one of those Super Bowls diminishes the fact that
he's the greatest quarterback of all time, none of it.
We all need breaks, sooner or later. We all took
a right instead of a left, and look where it
(50:10):
got us. Go through your day. Go through your day
like you wake up. How many times have you come
up on an accident on the freeway and traffic is
all backed up and you're like, damn it, I'm stuck
behind this. Yeah, what if you would have left your
house four seconds earlier, you would have been in that accident. Okay,
(50:31):
that's called a break, that's called something went your way.
So the idea that Golden stayed just lucked out. They
just they get all the breaks they're facing, all these
teams that are injured. Stop stop bitching and moaning, stop complaining.
They're just better at what they do than your team is.
(50:52):
You can cry all you want, you can complain, you
can go to social media, you can ball wash Lebron
Aimes all you want and talk about how if he
had teammates like that, he would also have all these championships. Enough,
he had opportunities, he chased coaches out, he burned bridges
with teammates, He's moved around a little bit. Golden State
(51:14):
has gotten good through the draft and they've landed one
significant all time free agent and Kevin Durant. They've earned
all of it. And if they win another championship, I
don't want to hear Celtic fans bitching about injuries. I
don't want to hear calv fans bitching about injuries, and
I don't want to hear Rocket fans bitching about Chris
Paul injuries. Golden State. If they win it all, it's
(51:34):
because they're the best team on the planet, period. Stop bitching,
all right? Feel better alright? Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio
eight seven seven Foxes the phone number eight seven seven
six three six nine, And you can also give me
(51:55):
on Twitter at the Jonas Knox. Sorry, I just you know,
get a little fired up. You can light me on
fire with no host. You can right now. It will
improve the smell in the studio. The bo is off
the charts right now. Coming up next year on Fox
Sports Radio, there is Okay, so an NFL team has
come up with something that initially is really stupid. Okay,
(52:19):
initially here and you go, this is just dumb. This
is really really dumb. I'm gonna tell you why if
you actually sit back and think about it, we could
see this in the NFL soon and I think it's awesome.
Find out what it is next year. NFS are Jonas
Knox Fox Sports Radio coming to you alive here from
(52:40):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios, ten minutes from now
here on Fox Sports Radio, we will play Pro Wrestler
or porn Star. If you want to be a part
of the most popular game in the history of sports
stock radio. Pro Wrestler Porn Star eight seven seven ninety
(53:03):
nine on Fox is the number two call eight seven
seven nine six six three six nine. Pro Wrestler Porn
Star coming up in about ten minutes from now here
on Fox Sports Radio. Because the calls go straight through,
it's gonna be a hectic time, so you will be
placed on hold. We've got a thousand phone lines. Get
in while the getting is good, and we'll get to
(53:24):
a pro Wrestler Porn Star ten minutes from now here
on Fox Sports Radio. UM, all right, so I was
I need to be completely honest about something here. When
new rules are introduced in the NFL, when new things
are done in the NFL, I initially want to push
back because, you know, the NFL I grew up with
(53:48):
wasn't like that. Um, you know, the helmet rule, things like,
you know, it just it wasn't like that. And so
sometimes we have a tendency to push back on things
just from nostalgia purposes. We remember, we think that things
were so cool back in the day. It's like, how
many I was thinking about this, Man, it would be
kind of cool to have a rotary phone back in
the house, you know, that'd be kind of cool, you know,
(54:09):
like back in the old days, have one of those
rotary dial phones. And then I thought long and hard
about it, and I liked, nah, actually not, I think
about that would suck. It would take a long time
to really dial someone's number. And I don't really need
the landline to begin with. So we can get nostalgic
all we want about things, but if the things that
we have now are better than the things that we
(54:31):
have earlier technology wise, So when it comes to the NFL,
I kind of a similar push back to that, to
where I think, man, that's wasn't how it was when
I grew up. And and the thing that's really bugged me,
the thing that's really bothered me the most, and we've
talked about it several times on the show, is how
they've been trying to constantly change the kickoff in the NFL,
(54:52):
the kickoff rules. Um, the latest is, you know, no
three man wedges. No. I mean, there's just been so
many different modifications that the NFL kickoff that to me,
it's at this point, I'm so frustrated with it. It's like,
I'll just get rid of it all together. Okay, if
you're just gonna keep tweaking it, get rid of it
all together. It's the equivalent to UM that show what's
(55:14):
what's the name of the the movie office space or
whatever it is UM where the guy gets Milton gets
moved down to the basement, like, yeah, you know, we're
not firing you, we're just kind of, you know, you know,
moving you around a little bit. And then all of
a sudden, you fast forward a little bit in the movie,
and space continues to shrink, and then by the end
of the movie there's boxes piling up and they just
(55:36):
slowly started to pace him out to where they were
just basically burying him alive in boxes and an extra
office equipment because they didn't have the heart to tell him, hey, man,
you're fired. You don't have a job here anymore. And
it's like that's what the NFL has done to the
kickoff rule. They don't have the heart to tell people, hey,
we're just gonna get rid of this all together. So
they want to eliminate collisions and concussions and head trauma
(55:58):
and all that stuff. So they just keep a eliminating
one thing after another. It's just it's a giant pain
in the ass and it bugs me because I'm protective
over it because I think, man, the kickoff is so
awesome and there's been so many exciting plays and all that.
But I also acknowledge that the NFL can't get rid
of the kickoff. They can't because it's so much part
(56:19):
of the vernacular of football. Like when you're talking about
the n b A, do you say what time does
the game start? Or do you sometimes say what time
does that game tip off? Will you do that because
it starts with a tip off? What time do they
drop the puck in hockey? Well, they wouldn't get rid
(56:40):
of the puck drops too much part of the vernacular.
So they're never going to get rid of the kickoff
because what times kickoff? So you've got to have it somehow.
But they just want to get rid of the violence
on the kickoff. And so the Baltimore Ravens came up
with this idea that I again pushed back on because
(57:01):
I thought it was dumb, sounded like a gimmick, and
it was I was being protective of what I grew
up with, which was the kickoff one of the most
exciting plays and all that, and so the Ravens had
this idea, and John Harbor has been floating this out
and I believe they floated it out last year, but
it became a topic of discussion over the past couple
of days again over the rule changes and things that
(57:24):
they're going to be doing. And John Harbaugh says, what
about if we give a team a point if on
the kickoff their kicker can put it through the uprights
when we've the first time I heard it was last year.
I said, this is stupid, man, this is ridiculous. It's
a gimmick. We're not talking about gimmicks. I mean, like
(57:47):
what's next whoopee cushions and kazoos and you got to
shake somebody's hand and they've got a ring buzzer on
like it's just like it's like like fart noises and
boop poop coca, Like, like, what are we doing here? Man?
We are we playing the playing an NFL game here?
Or is this ringling Brothers? Like who it was some circus?
(58:09):
Like the guy comes out on a unicycle for the
coin flip. What are we doing? This is ridiculous? And
so I looked back on it when it came up
over the past couple of days, and I started thinking
about it, and I was like, you know, I didn't
like the extra point being moved back and becoming a
(58:30):
thirty three yard field goal. I didn't like it because
I was like, I grew up with that, and I
just it sounds like a GIMMI gets dumb. But all
of a sudden, that extra point play has become more exciting. Right.
So the more I started thinking about over the last
couple of days about the Ravens proposal, I gotta be
honest with you, man, It's not that bad of an idea.
(58:51):
In fact, I'm in on it. I'm good if we
can acknowledge that the NFL is trying to find a
way to eliminate the kickoff, but they can't because it's
too much part of the vernacular. What's the best way
you can keep that play but still make it exciting,
similar to the extra point. You make it more difficult,
(59:13):
You turn up the excitement a little bit, You add
a wrinkle to it and change the way that that
play looks. And I know that the Baltimore Ravens introduced
this idea because they've got Justin Tucker and he's the
best on the planet and it's easy for him, and
that will be an extra point for the Baltimore Ravens.
And I don't know, if you've seen Joe Flacco play
in the last couple of years, they could kind of
(59:35):
use all the points they could get. But I think
it would completely change how that play is done, and
I think it would add more excitement to it. It
would reduce the number of collisions because teams would be
aiming for that extra point they could get on the kickoff.
And I know that it's a gimmick and I understand
that the that the odds of it happening probably aren't
(59:56):
that great, But I don't think it's the worst idea
in the world. I really don't. David Anderson, former NFL
wide receiver, was on with us earlier in the program,
and I pitched the idea at him. Here's his thoughts.
People are gonna are going to react and behave according
to what they're incentivized to do, right, and if you
(01:00:16):
just uh kneel right or if you're not kneel, like
it and like the anthem stuff. But if you, uh,
you get a touch back and you get all the
twenty five yard line, then the best case scenarios inside
the tent and so everyone's trying to figure out how
to get the ball, but all of a sudden, adding
a point as a possibility, now that's the best case.
(01:00:37):
Everyone's going to be going for that, and they're incentivized
to try to kick the ball through the upright. I'm
in on it. I'm sold you. You've so, you have
made me a believer. You've made it. Look it's like
Game of Thrones. I told everybody for the longest time,
you gotta watch Game of Thrones. You gotta watch Game
of Thrones. People. People would say that to me. I said,
I'm not into it. Man, come on, you'll really like it.
(01:00:58):
We know you're gonna like it. Listen. I don't like
Star Wars, I don't like Space Track. I like all
those uh whatever those alien movies are where the war
lords and saucerers, and like even the Never Ending Story.
You watch it when you're older, and the only thing
that creeps me out is that dogs got bumps on
his back. It's just weird, Like somebody like give him
(01:01:20):
a lotion or something or or something. That dog foul core,
whatever the hell's name is, he probably smells like he's hairy.
It's it's it's the horse drowns in the quicksand the Oracle,
all that stuff. I said, I'm not into the Game
of Thrones. I'm never gonna watch it. Man, I'm not
into that sorcery crap, the dragons. It's just it's lame.
I'm not into that stuff. And then I watched Game
(01:01:41):
of Thrones and I said, Damn, you guys are right.
This show is fantastic. This show is absolutely fantastic, and
we please hear, please hear the music again, like I
get excited. Mean, it's not gonna be around for another
two years because it costs forty five million dollars to
to put together an episode. But I'm telling you, just
get rid of whatever you thought about the NFL before,
(01:02:04):
whatever you grew up on, and take a step back.
I'm all in on Game of Thrones, and I'm all
in on the ravens and handing a point out to
a team if they kick off and that ball goes
through the uprights, I'm in. I'm sold, totally sold. Who

(01:06:45):
Are you still hanging out? After you? All? Right? I

find out who's going to be uh competing against Craig.
Let's go all the way to Des Moines, Des Moines, Iowa,
where Terry is listening on Fox Sports Radio. Terry, what's happening?
Just chilling out? What's going on in De Moines? Man? Uh,
(01:07:26):
just got off work and having a couple of earthquakes,
having a couple of earthquake? What the hell is that? Like?
An actual earthquake? It's logger? Okay, Well, you know what's
great about a ten percent logger? Two or three of
those bad boys and you start to you start to
feel a little bit huh. Now, Terry, you know that
(01:07:48):
Iowa Sam who is the reason this show exists. Because
he's the guy behind all the buttons. He makes us
all sound good or at least mediocre from time to time.
He is the pride of the state of Iowa. He's
currently wearing an Iowa state cyclones right now. Well, Terry
might be an Iowa State fan. Um so so Terry, Terry,
how big of a celebrity is Iowa Sam in the
(01:08:10):
state of Iowa. Well, I know who he is. Well, listen,
you're the only one on the phone. So that's all
that matters. Terry, I gotta say, you drink those ten
percent beers. You're it's less volume, more quality. Yeah, get
drunk or faster there it is your calories bingo, that
is true. Yeah. And man, plus, you get hammered so
(01:08:32):
fast that when you do go to the bathroom, it's
gonna be in the middle of the night while you're sleeping.
So then you got a little bit of a clean up.
But they look, we all have those shoes from time
to time. All right, So Craig and Booker, Ratone, Terry
and Des Moines here on Fox Sports Radio. So this
is how we play pro wrestler or porn star. I've
got a list of names here. It's either the name
of a pro wrestler or it's the name of a
porn star. I'm gonna start with Craig, then I'm gonna
(01:08:54):
go over to Terry. If we are tied at the
end of this list, we go to sudden depth overtime.
Easy enough, all right here, we Craig in boker ratone.
First up here on Fox Sports Radio, Craig, the name

(01:09:20):
you said Ron, like Captain Ron, that bad movie starring
what's his name Kurt Russell, But it's actually one one,
but regardless, it was still a porn star. So you
got that correct. Alright, So so Craig is on the board.
Over to Terry and de Moine, we go. Terry. The
first thame up for you here on Fox Sports Radio's

just gave Terry was Miss Cherry Blossoms. The name I've
got for you here is Cherry Cola, pro wrestler porn

if he gets this correct on Fox Sports Radio, Terry,
you ready, all right? What about Elcholo pro wrestler or

(01:11:37):
guys ever heard that song like a clo Remember that
song back in the day? That song sucks? Oh my god?
That yeah, Like there was some song back in the
day like a like like a Virgin by Madonna. But yeah,
but except this one. Stinks all right, So um back
over to Craig. I'll tie it up here on pro
(01:11:57):
Wrestler or porn Star, Craig. The next came up for
you here is Penny Pulsations, Pro Wrestler porn Star. I'm
hoping that's a porn star. That is incorrect, Penny Pulls.
I look, I would have gone the same as you, man,
Penny Pulsations. Yeah, as a pro wrestler. So we go, yeah,
(01:12:20):
I know. We go over to Terry and des Moines. Terry,
you can take a lead here on Pro Wrestler porn Star. Terry.
The next name up for you here is Tory Pines,
Pro Wrestler porn Star Star. That is correct, Yeah, a
(01:12:40):
lot of penetration. By the way, Tory Pines is also
a golf course, and uh, I've been there several times.
It is awesome down in Lahoya, California. The Farmer's Insurance
open every year in Mohoya. It is a beautiful golf course. Hey, Ralph,
Um Tory Pines beautiful. No, absolutely two courses there. How
(01:13:05):
have they not sued the hell out of that wrestler,
Ralph so Tory Tory Pines. But but it is beautiful, right,
it's beautiful. Yeah, pines is beautiful. Yeah? What about the
golf course? The high school is beautiful too. Back over
to Craig in Florida. We go here on Pro Wrestler
(01:13:27):
porn Star. Craig, you ready for this now? You need
to get this correct in order to force uh Terry
into making his final picks, because if you missed this,
it's over. All right, Terry wins? All right, So here
we go, Craig and Boca ratone to stay alive here
on Pro Wrestler A porn Star. Craig, what about Soul
trained Phillips Pro Wrestler a porn Star. That is correct? Yes,
(01:13:52):
that is corrects ice water in his varnes as Craig has.
Now to all the pressure on Terry and de moine. Terry,
if you get this correct, the game is over. If
you miss we go to a sudden depth overtime. Are
you nervous? All right? Here we go, now, Terry? What's
(01:14:15):
the beer? What are we drinking here? Man? Oh? Yeah,
that's right, you told me earthquake. I thought you were
actually saying it was an earthquake? Sam, have you ever
an earthquake before? I have not? I have not no
earthquakes and io either. Maybe in Oklahoma, but not not
so here. We'll try that out though. Terry and de
Moine to win the game here on Pro Wrestler porn Star. Terry.
(01:14:36):
The name for you here on Pro Wrestler porn Star, Terry.
Are you ready? Here on Fox Sports Radio, also on
the I Heart Radio app. Let's go Terry to win
the game here on Pro Wrestler porn Star. The aim
(01:15:00):
for you is Terry. You want to take another sip
real quick before before I give you this real quick?
There you go. Don't don't mean to twist your arm
or anything here in the air, Terry. Chris Cannon, Pro wrestler,
a porn star. Chris Cannon, Chris Cannon like Cannonball Run,
(01:15:28):
Dom Deloise Cannonball Run. Who will be appearing coming up
next hour on the show. Chris Cannon, Pro wrestler, porn Star. God. Um,
that is incorrect? Is incorrect? Chris Cannon is a porn star,
hence the last name. But kay uh yeah, So that
(01:15:55):
leaves us with sudden death overtime. Here. Here's how sudden
death overtime works. I'm going to read you, guys the
name first person to ring in and buzz in with
their name will get the opportunity to guess. That means,
don't shout out pro Wrestler porn Star. You have to
buzz in with your name, either Craig or Terry. If
you buzz in first, you'll get the chance to answer it.
(01:16:16):
You ready for this? There we go sudden depth overtime.
The name for you, guys is Budlicious. Craig in Boca
Ratone faster to the draw than Terry. Craig and Boca Ratone, Budlicious,
pro wrestler or porn Star for the wind wrestler. That
(01:16:42):
is correct, He's doing everybody. Craig in Boca Raton has
done it. Buglicious is a pro wrestler. And with that,
move over Lane Kiffin, move over Joey Freshwater, move over
f Au. Craig in Boca Ratone is your newest winner
(01:17:03):
here on Pro Wrestler porn Star. Congratulations a huge, huge
events there. It is some fun game. Nice work, Craig
in Boca Raton, You're champion. Uh, this is the time
where you all get to tweet at the Jonas Knocks
and let me know which one of those names is
your favorite um and we will discuss that coming up
(01:17:24):
here next Also, by the way, so there's a huge
event going on in sports, all right, Jonas Knocks Fox
Sports Radio at the Jonas Knocks on Twitter. There's a
huge event going on in sports right. Something was said
about this event that might be the most confusing pregame
analysis I have ever heard in my life. You will
(01:17:46):
hear that next year on FSR getting all swo. Jonas
Knocks Fox Sports Radio coman to you live from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. You never heard this song,
Sam like that. See that's one of the side effects
(01:18:07):
from growing up in Iowa and not how here in
southern California. This song, like a Cholo was hot, man,
this was hot. I grew up in Ventura County, Man Oxnard, Camarillo,
into the San Fernando Valley. This song was hot. Like
when did this come out? I don't even remember. It's
(01:18:29):
it's brutal. It's a brutal song, but it's pretty funny.
Now I'm very entertained, by the way. An update on
the beer that that gentleman was drinking a little while
ago here on the show during Pro Wrestler, a porn starm.
We're playing like a cholo because there was a pro
wrestler on pro wrestler porn starm. His name was El Cholo,
which got us thinking about this song. That that an
earthquake beer he was talking about. It's basically like a
(01:18:52):
four locos like it's it is brutal. I'm looking at
it right now. That that guy. We've never heard the
beer before, and now we know why you have your
had a fiend demand. It's like a nine percent alcohol
I I know I haven't And I've also never been
tased in the balls before, so I know I would
like neither of those in my life. Um, this is
(01:19:13):
so I know. There's a big game coming up here,
Celtics Calves Game seven. I found this preview this game
maybe the most maybe the most confusing preview I've ever
heard of a playoff game in the history of sports. Right,
the following is this Kevin Love has been ruled out
of the game, so the following here. Last time the
(01:19:37):
Calves played the Celtics without Love in Boston was the
first game with all the players after the trade. That
went really well. But it's completely unreasonable to expect that
to happen again. Followed by Calves can absolutely win without
Love and they might be better off defensively without him.
Problem is, he was the only guy outside of Lebron
(01:19:58):
who has shown up on offense in Boston. All Right,
I am I feel like I just had an earthquake beer, okay,
because I have no idea what the hell that is
supposed to mean? Like, what the hell like that's that's
sort of I am thrown for a loop. So so
the last time they played, they played really well, but
it's unreasonable to expect it to happen again, and then
(01:20:20):
they can absolutely win without and then they're better Like,
I am totally thrown for a loss. And so if
you're asking yourself, man, I'm confused to who the hell
would give that sort of pregame analysis to a Game
seven between these Celtics and the Calves. It was none
other than a member of this show, Mike Mayor. Mike thoughts,
(01:20:41):
Michael Michael. I tend to get carried away. Yeah, you
got a quick trigger, man. You gotta holster that bad boy. Actually,
don't keep firing them off, Michael Michael. So there could
be something to a major problem in sports. There there's
been an issue for this team in sports, and I
(01:21:04):
think I've got an idea as to why that is.
I'll explain what it is coming up here in just
a couple of minutes Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio. You
can listen to the show on the I Heart Radio app,
Sirius x M Channel A D three, on all of
our Fox Sports Radio affiliates. Wherever you are right now
listening to the program. We always appreciate a few minutes
of your time as we come to you live here
(01:21:24):
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios, where fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance.
Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote. So
we've got two Game seven's in the NBA playoffs. UM,
I have not been a big fan of the quality
(01:21:44):
of these games. There's been a couple of close games,
but outside of that, Eastern Conference Finals have been blowout, blowout, blowout, blowout.
The Cavs pulled away in Game six, so that ended
up being not as close as what you were hoping for,
but it was a blowout from about the second quarter
on UH Golden State. Houston's had one or two close game,
(01:22:04):
maybe two close games. Game six on Saturday Night turned
out to be a blowout, but it looked like it
was a blowout in the other direction in the first half,
So you got all these blowouts going on. I couldn't
help but notice that, Like, doesn't it seem like these
games have gotten better and better though as the series
has gone on, you know, almost like like you're getting
(01:22:24):
to the elimination point in the series, and it's like
the games get better, you know, like the quality of
games get better. Almost like like if you just shorten
the series and you got to the elimination game sooner,
we wouldn't have to sit through the crap in the
first couple of games, you know what I mean. I've
been talking about this for going on two weeks. People
(01:22:47):
are now starting to catch up to the idea that
the reason that these games have been bad early on
is because these guys know they've got room to wiggle with,
they've got room to play with, and so they don't
really they're not really gonna gun it in games once
through four. Most likely they're gonna try and get after
it when it's elimination time. So I just think if
you if you put these guys in an elimination situation. Sooner,
(01:23:09):
I think we'd get better games, uh, and a better
percentage of quality games in the NBA playoffs more sooner,
you know, more often than not, as opposed to what
we're getting now. Um what I did want to get
to Because Golden State took care of business wipe out Houston.
We go to a Game seven on Monday night. But
the injuries are becoming a topic of conversation. And there's
(01:23:32):
also another topic of conversation that I think is interesting
that needs to be pointed out, and I haven't haven't
heard a lot of people point this out. So Kevin
Love is out in concussion protocol for for Game seven.
I figured Kevin Love, if he didn't return to that
game in Game six, the chances of him being able
(01:23:54):
to come back two days later dealing with concussion symptoms.
I just didn't think we're real strong. So I'm not
surprised that Kevin Love was ruled out of this game.
I don't want to hear any excuses, Uh, if the
Calves lose this game, I don't want to hear any
excuses from the LDL, the Lebron Defense League, you know
who you are. Boston has been without their two best
(01:24:16):
players via injury majority of the season. So I don't
want to hear the excuses about injuries and all of
that stuff. Look, everybody's got problems. You deal with it
and you go out there and you try and win games.
Just like I don't want to hear excuses and people
ripping Golden State because Chris Paul is injured and they
think that they're lucky. Shut up. Injuries are part of
(01:24:36):
the process. That's just the reality. Golden State, if they
win it all, they're the best team. Nobody got a
lucky break because somebody got injured. Nobody. It's not like that.
We all have to get a break sooner or rather
than later. In sports or in life. You need things
to go your way. If somebody gets injured, it doesn't
diminish what Golden State has done. Okay, they're the best team.
(01:24:59):
Give him credit it if they win it all. So
I don't want to hear any excuses. Kevin Love was
heard that's why Lebron lost, Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irvinger both out.
Celtics have dealt with injuries all year long, So we
can get rid of all that crap um. I think
Brad Stevens with two days to prepare for a lineup
without Kevin Love is a lot different than an in
(01:25:21):
game adjustment, all right, Like an in game adjustment, not
having time and seeing a different look is it's it's
just a different feeling, like he's he's got to think about. Okay,
when you know, now we're in the midst of a
game and Kevin Love is out. Now I've got to
adjust to this having two days to know that he's
not going to be in the lineup. I think it's
(01:25:42):
going to benefit Boston and benefit Brad Stevens. I think
Lebron is going to be fantastic. I can't wait for
the game. It's a Game seven. It's gonna be a
lot of fun. I'll actually be on the air with
Brady Quinn, who is a Cleveland Cavalier ball washer to
the max, right, a ball washer to the max. Grew
up in Ohio, die hard Calves fans, So that'll be
(01:26:04):
a lot of fun to just to hear him during
that game. So we'll be on the air live while
that game goes on later on on Fox Sports Radio.
But the other element to this, because injuries are a factor, okay,
not an excuse, but they are a factor and a storyline.
The other is this the home road dynamic for the
(01:26:28):
Boston Celtics is really interesting to me. And here's why,
because I think that because of the benefit that they
get from being at home, I think that's why they
struggle on the road. Here's what I mean by it,
Like if you ever sleep in a hotel or and
you hurt your back, Like you wake up you sleep
(01:26:49):
in a hotel bed, and you get up the next
morning and your back is stiff, just doesn't feel the same.
Or you you're you drive a rental car, you go
on vacation and you get a rental car and you
just maybe don't drive is good and it doesn't feel right,
and it's just not as as comfortable. Like the reason
that is happening is not because the hotel bed sucks
(01:27:10):
or not because the car that you're driving, the rental
car is worse than your other car. I may even
be a better car, but it's because your car or
your bed are so comfortable and so nice to you
and comfortable to you that when you don't have it,
you struggle and you have a hard time adjusting. You know,
(01:27:32):
It's like if you walk around barefoot after you take
your shoes off, and and say it hurts to walk
around and it's really just uncomfortable. Well, no, it doesn't
mean that you're walking around on anything other than carpet
or a piece of wood or whatever. It just means
that your shoes are so comfortable that when you take
them off, you're just not used to it. It just
(01:27:54):
sort of puts you in this weird spot. And so
I just think that there's something too having such a
significant advantage at home that you deal with an equally
significant disadvantage when you go on the road, and maybe
there's something to Boston and then being a young team
and going on the road in a playoff environment, maybe
(01:28:16):
there's something to it. And then they get back at
home and it's, oh man, you know they're at home.
They feel more comfortable. Okay, Like I'm willing to buy
into that home road idea to a certain extent, But
I do think there's something about teams that have such
a significant advantage at home that the the difference between
home and road is sort of a shock to the system.
(01:28:39):
What a lot of people have not brought up. And
I'm surprised, and I remember this being the case ten
years ago. When the Celtics won the title in two
thousand and eight, Okay, that team was full of veterans
Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce. You had guys like
uh p J. Brown was on that team, James Posey,
(01:29:02):
Eddie House like that was a veteran team. You had
young players like Ray Jean Rondo, Kendrick Perkins was there,
Glenn Big Baby Davis. But for the most part, that
was a veteran team with a veteran coach who played
in the NBA for a long time. If anybody remembers
that championship run, do you know that that Boston Celtic
(01:29:23):
team who won it all and annihilated the Lakers at
home in a game six to win the NBA Championship.
They didn't win a road game until the Eastern Conference Finals.
They went seven games against an eight seed in Atlanta
and they won. They lost every road game in that
(01:29:45):
series that was an eight seed. The next round they
played the Calves, beat lebron and the Calves in seven
games lost every single road game in that series. It
wasn't until the East Durned Conference Finals when they played
the Pistons that they actually won a couple of road games,
(01:30:07):
but overall, and then of course they want a road
game in which they came from behind and beat the
Lakers in l A. I believe it was game four,
but overall, or it might have been game three. Game games, Yeah,
I know it was game four. I think overall though
the Celtics on that championship team, we're three and nine
on the road that year. Like, I don't think this
(01:30:30):
is just a young team struggling on the road dynamic.
I don't think it's that. I think it's something too.
When the garden gets rocking and what it is so
jacked up and they are so fired up to watch
their team that the advantage at home in Boston is
(01:30:51):
so significant that you can only have a letdown on
the road because you become so accustomed to what that
environment and what that scene is like that when you
get on the road, oh, whoa, whoa, this is this
is odd, Like we're we're used to how loud and crazy.
I mean that place. Say whatever you want about Oracle
(01:31:14):
and you saw it on Saturday night. But when the
garden gets moving and they're rolling, uh even Lebron James
A couple of times in this series has been it
almost looks like Lebron James being in that environment in
that arena has kind of been like, Yeah, this has
gonna not happening tonight. No, this is this is different,
(01:31:35):
and I would expect it's going to be a fired
up crowd as always to the Max in Boston in
the Garden coming up on Sunday night. But I do
think there's something to having such an advantage and feeling
so comfortable in anything in life that when it's taken away,
even momentarily, you kind of lose balance. And I think
(01:31:57):
that has more to do with Boston's roads ruggles this
year then the youth and the inexperience, because ten years
ago that was a veteran team who won a title
and they had the same problems on the road too.
So I think the advantage at home in Boston is
so significant that you can only have a letdown when
you go on the road. Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio

(01:33:00):
Sports Radio, coming to you Alive from the Geico Fox
Sports Radio studios. Coming up in about ten minutes from
now here on Fox Sports Radio, we are going to
have another edition of the Scraps. This is where we
talk about a couple of stories that are maybe not
(01:33:21):
so suitable for the air, But we're rolling to roll
the dice here on Fox Sports Radio and that'll be
coming up here about ten minutes from now here on
Fox Sports Radio. So um, I remember talking about this
after it happened, and we discussed it a little bit
(01:33:41):
on the show earlier. Where when the decision was made
by the coaching staff in Seattle in the Super Bowl
against the Patriots in which they threw the ball on
the goal line which turned into the interception by Malcolm
Butler and the Patriots when on to win the Super Bowl,
and I said at the time, I remember thinking that
(01:34:04):
was the glacier moment into the side of the boat
for the Seattle Seahawks, because that right then and there,
and I think that those players, and I always felt
like those players knew it too, because it's a different
conversation when you're talking about a team that's won two
Super Bowls as opposed to a team that's won one.
(01:34:26):
You know, there's a lot of teams that have won
one Super Bowl, a lot of players that have won
a Super Bowl, not that many that have won multiple
Super Bowls. And that was a golden opportunity for that
team to win a second Super Bowl. And I felt
like that was the glacier moment hitting the boat and
water started seeping in and it was only a matter
(01:34:47):
of time before everything went under. And then now here
we are in the off season, Richard Sherman gone, Michael
Bennett gone, Marshawn Lynch has been long gone for a while.
You've got issues in the second area, You've got back
and force controversy, just it's just not the same Seahawks.
And I felt like those players always knew that that
(01:35:12):
was their chance, and I wondered how much resentment they felt.
And you knew because like Richard Sherman last year or
the year before, I think it was was getting on
the offensive play calling in a regular season game, down
at the goal line, running down there, telling the play caller,
(01:35:33):
the offensive coordinator, Darryl Bebel, what played a run and saying,
I'm not going to sit back and let them make
that mistake again. So I knew, all right, this is
clearly that team's still got a red ass over what
happened in the past. And so Dave Damaschik of NFL
Network has a podcast and Cliff Avril, who won a
(01:35:56):
Super Bowl in Seattle, was on that team that nearly
won the Super Bowl against the Patriots before they lost,
talked about that play, the decision of the goal line
to throw the ball, and how it affected the locker room.
Here was Cliff April, the team would have bought in
more into what coach Carroll was saying instead of, you know,
going the opposite way of Hey, this is what we thought,
(01:36:17):
we believe, this is what we thought the foundation of
the team was. And that's not what happened in that
in that particular play. So I think guys started kind
of questioning him a little more so then actually followed
his lead. If we would have won the super, the
situation supped regardless of whoo who took the blame, you know,
it's just the fact that we were so close and
(01:36:37):
we weren't able to get it. So I think a
lot of guys got turned off by the message. And
so the reason I thought it was interesting is one
because I don't know that I know players have hinted
at it and sort of discussed it, but that's a
guy who was in the locker room. We talked about, Yeah,
this is you know, we were bothered by it. A
lot of this is Pete Carroll's fault, and I don't
say that it's his fault that oh you ruined up,
(01:36:59):
but I think he embraced the idea of speaking out
and being vocal and saying what's on your mind and
this sort of raw, raw environment, and then all of
a sudden he made a mistake, made a poor decision,
and all of those I welcome your opinion, voice your opinion,
(01:37:19):
all of that started to come back and bite him
in the ass a little bit. And this is why
you are where you are I think Seattle made the
choice in the off season that they wanted the locker
room not to be as loud because it became a problem.
Uh you know, you give him an inch, they'll take
a mile. And those guys spoke out on things, They
discussed things, they called out coaches. They they took the
(01:37:41):
offer and the opportunity that Pete Carroll presented him, and
they ran with it and it got out of control.
And now Seattle and that era of Seahawks football is done.
It's over window closed. Because you could be the last
place team in that division this coming year. I don't
think that's that far of a stretch. I don't think
(01:38:02):
it's that far of a stretch to say the Rams
and the Niners are both better than you, and I
don't think it's that far of a stretch to think
that maybe Josh Rosen is a stud rookie quarterback and
maybe Arizona is better than you two. I mean, I
would still pick Seattle third right now if you had
a gun to my head, third in that division. But
that era of Seahawks football's closed. But here's why it's
(01:38:23):
pertinent to to what is happening today. I and I
was talking about this earlier. I'm fascinated to see how
this plays out this offseason into the regular season for
the Patriots, because while I don't think it's it's the same,
I do think there's an element of it happening with
the Patriots in the decision not to play Malcolm Butler
(01:38:44):
and the Super Bowl. Now, they haven't come out and
said what really happened. I find it hard to believe
that Belichick would just do it because just for the
hell of it, you know, I think it's uh, you know,
I think it's I think it's the best thing for
the team. I just find that hard to believe. I
think something happened that week, whether miss something or not
(01:39:06):
being prepared, but something happened that week. And I'm willing
to trust Bill Belichick because he's usually right about this
stuff over the idea that that he would just all
of a sudden make the biggest mistake of his career
moments before the biggest game of his career. And I'm
just but I think that there are players who were
(01:39:27):
bothered with that decision and the way that it happened,
and I think that sort of that could play out
this year. That's why I'm fascinated to see how it does.
Just looking at how you see how those bad feelings
towards Pete Carroll lingered. I mean, we're talking three years
later and they're still talking about it in a podcast
in May. It's over, you move on, but still those
(01:39:50):
guys are bothered by it. I wonder how much of
that will happen with Belichick this year and the Patriots.
If it is that big of a deal, I would
be I would venture if I had a place a bet,
I wouldn't say that it is. But I do think
it's an interesting thing to pay attention to. And also,
like when you hear and I've said this before, like
some of the criticism on the Patriots, Tom Brady not
(01:40:13):
showing up to O. T. A. S. Gronks comments, social
media posts, all these other things. I think it's an
element of it's an overreaction to an unfamiliar look. And
it happens from time to time. And and we've discussed
it before to where Max Kellerman of HBO has talked
(01:40:35):
about how people score fights and how judges score boxing events,
and what he says is and this happens all the time.
And I think that it's happening with our coverage of
the Patriots right now. If you're watching a fight and
it's a one sided fight and one guy is winning
(01:40:56):
every single round. Through nine rounds, he's been dominant, it's
a shutout. He's won every single round, and then the
tenth round comes around and the other guy has a
better round, He has a he has a little bit
better of a round than he's had previously. The thinking is,
I'm gonna give that guy the round because he looked
(01:41:18):
better than he did before. The reality is, if you
go back and look at it, it doesn't mean he
won the round. He probably still lost, but because it
looked a little better than before, you tend to overreact
and give him the round based on it being unfamiliar
to you. I think that's what's happening with the Patriots.
They've never had issues. They've never had Tom Brady and
(01:41:43):
not show up to O T A s or guys
talk on social media, or players speak out over a
bad decision by Bill Belichick, or or you know them
butting heads and it getting out publicly. They've never had
that before, So now that it has happened, I think
people are overreacting to some of it okay, and I
think I think that's what's going on with this Patriots coverage,
(01:42:04):
and I've seen it a lot in the off season,
this stuff with Cliff Avril talking about Pete Carroll talking
about that decision in a Super Bowl. One decision, one play,
one mistake, and three years later they still haven't forgiven
their head coach. I wonder if that plays out for
(01:42:25):
the Patriots based on the decision not to play Malcolm
Butler this season. Jonas Knox Fox Sports Radio eight seven,

so fifteen minutes tomorrow, maybe the most disrespectful thing ever
done by a host in the history of Fox Sports Radio.
So you'll find out what that is fifteen minutes from now.
Right now, though, it's time for this, Jonas, how could
(01:45:00):
you not get to? These stories are the scraps? And
for that we turn it over to Ralph Irvin. This
is usually a struggle for Ralph because he likes to
throw in a couple of stories that he can't be
a professional while reading the stories, because he can't keep
a straight face and not laugh on the air. So Ralph,
(01:45:23):
what do we got? Well, we start off with the
Pittsburgh Steelers, who, well, they've got a running back named
Levy on Bell. You probably heard about him back in
before he was entering the final year of his rookie deal.
He released a hip hop single saying that he wanted
fifteen million dollars a year in his next contract. By
last August that fifteen it increased to seventeen. So he
(01:45:47):
turned down a twelve million dollar a deal twelve million
dollar a deal year, sorry, a twelve million dollar a deal.
He turned out a big contract long term that would
pay over twelve million a year, so he signed as
a franchise tag in at twelve point one million. This
offseason franchise offer is fourteen point five million dollars. That
(01:46:12):
makes him far and away the highest paid running back
in the game. But it's not enough. Yeah, well, I
think he feels under I hope he understands that the
way that the franchise number is set this year for him,
he's making almost double what the next running back is
going to be making. I know he wants to guaranteed
money and all that, but the offer that the Steelers
reportedly throughout last off season was five years, sixty million,
(01:46:36):
twelve million a year and thirty million guaranteed over the
first two years. So this one of those deals to
where I think it kind of benefits both parties if
he plays on the franchise number. Now, the Steelers aren't
anticipating he's going to be there until September. But if
you think about it, he got twelve something million last year.
(01:46:57):
I think he's gonna get fourteen this year. So if
you're the Steelers, you offered him thirty million in the
first two years of a new deal, he's gonna end
up getting about twenty six So you're saving four million dollars.
And if you're leaving on Bell, you just made twenty
six million dollars in two years and you could potentially
hit the open market next year. It's it's kind of
similar to Kirk Cousins deal, different positions, it turned out differently, obviously,
(01:47:22):
and we don't know how this is going to turn out.
I think it's one of those situations where it kind
of benefits both teams just to keep doing a short
term The thing is is that despite his great numbers,
he's rated as maybe the fifth best back last year.
And and also, look, if you're not gonna what do
we hear about teams they don't want to draft a
running back high. I mean, the last couple of years
(01:47:44):
have been anomalies. But they don't want to draft running
back high because they don't want to invest that much
into a position that breaks down that early. Well, it's
the same thing with free agents and that quickly. Yeah,
why would the Steelers give him fifteen million dollars a
if he may have already played his best football? Because
(01:48:04):
at that position and he's already done with injuries. So
I think the Steelers handled this perfectly well. We go
to Florida for the recent Florida Mid Amateur Championship and
in that midam Championship, the final match was between Mark
Doll and Jeff Golden, and on the ninth hole there
was a rules dispute that went against Mr Doll and
(01:48:27):
his caddy was not too pleased with Mr Golden, and
he walked off the course and anger but allegedly said
you can count on me waiting for you in the
parking lot. The match continued. They went to the seventeenth
hole all square, but weather came in and forced everyone
(01:48:48):
back into the clubhouse, and it was during this break
that something happened in the parking lot. Jonas, our crack
editing staff here at Fox Sports Radio found this audio
of the incident involving player Jeff Olden in the opposition
caddy Brandon Hibbsy worm checkers. Yeah. Mr Golden claims to
(01:49:17):
have been sucker punched and was not able to compete
when it was time to return to the course. So
he got beat up, that's what he says. Okay, so
he got he got beat up. Now did he say
it was by the caddy by the by the caddy
of his opposition, Yes, um, and it was because there
was a dispute over a ball placement. It was over
(01:49:38):
a ruling by an official. Well, I mean you can
get into the problem. Is there were there any witnesses,
that's all this happened. Well, there were not any witnesses,
and in fact, the police declined to press any charges
seeing no sign of an assault. But again, we might
have audio of Mr Dolan his caddy after the round.
(01:49:58):
Couldn't have got any better. So I'll see the next tournament, right,
Oh no, that won't be necessary. Well, look, let's get something.
There's a red lobster nearby my drink. Maybe some other time.
I thought we were gonna be friends. Oh, we're friends.
We are. I just gotta go. I mean, we we're
gonna shoehorn anymore Adam Sandler movie references in Jesus God, Um,
(01:50:24):
you suck well let me okay. The funny thing is
that it it sounds like the Cattie did this, and
that's how the story is portrayed. But in reality everything
points to it being a complete con job by the
guy who lost. Yeah, I was gonna say this is
this is a bunch of crap. Maybe the guy got hammered,
or maybe he just made up a story so he
(01:50:46):
had an excuse for why he was gonna lose it.
Very well could be he had played it, one could say,
in good and bad faith up to that point. And plus,
when those guys go to the clubhouse, I mean they drink, right,
stuff can happen in roll. If you've been covering golf
for a long time, those guys go to the clubhouse,
you get after a little bit, right sometimes yes, especially
(01:51:07):
during a Raindeller, alright, what else do you got? Well
for this, we go to north Ridgeville, Ohio, where the
local police received a call at five six am about
this time uh from a man saying he was walking
home from the train station in Illyria and he said
that he was being followed by a pig Niedless to say,
(01:51:28):
the police felt that this made their job easier. A
drunk walking home from the bar calling in on himself
and let him know where he was so they could
pick him up. But when officers arrived, they found the
man completely sober near the Amtrak station, being followed by
a pig. The officer wrangled the pig into the squad
car and delivered it to the department. Channel hold on,
(01:51:52):
hold on. So guy leaves the guys at a train stage. Yes,
he said he's going home from work. Why is there
a pig near the train station. I don't know, but
well no, but part of the official police statement did
(01:52:13):
say we will mention the irony of the pig in
a police car now, so that anyone that thinks they're
funny is actually unoriginal in trying too hard. Yeah, well,
I mean I don't think that we would insult coughs
like that on the air. I don't. I don't think
that's that's probably a good movie. Heah. I I have
a couple of follow ut questions. Well, I there's another
statement though that my interest because the statement also said
(01:52:34):
you'd have thought we would have learned our lesson after
the kangaroo incident. What do you mean what kangaroo? Ind Well,
I did some digging into this, and we go back
to when there was a kangaroo terrorizing the residents of
north Ridgeviille, Ohio. Doing what it was. It was on
(01:52:56):
the loose, you would ude, what like like like stealing
their mail or or or snorting coke on their driveway.
What was the kangaroo doing, Well, it was it was
bounding about, challenging people to box. I guess wait, wait, wait,
wait what it was a loose kangaroo? Okay, why is
there a kangaroo in Ohio? They're not that common as
(01:53:18):
you might imagine, And so when the police showed up,
they actually knew who the kangaroo belonged to, and it
had just gotten out kind of like this pig, it
just gotten out. Well, I mean, a kangaroo's basically, um,
a kangaroo is basically an alien on a pogo stick,
is the way I described it. Like if you're abducted
by aliens, just imagine it on a pogo stick, and
(01:53:40):
that's that's a kangaroo. The way they bounce around, they're
very bizarre. Okay, So, but it appears the North Ridgeville, Ohio.
There's lots of wild animals. This doesn't understand. So there's
pigs and kangaroos and they just hang out at train
tracks and and terrorize people something like that sounds awful,
it does, And it's funny because the kangaroo came from
(01:54:03):
a place, uh that that's called the Little Big Farm,
a ten acre retreat for and home for animals that
they have rescued. So there's all sorts of wild animals
running around up there. So this place is is just
sort of where all the animals that don't belong in
the middle of Ohio go hang out on this farm.
(01:54:23):
I I guess, but you know they say they thought
that they were dealing with a drunk you know, making
up a pig chasing him. Turned out there was a
giant pig chasing Now what did the kangaroo ha in
his pouch? Did? Was he putting stuff in his pouch? Well?
You know what what a what a kangaroo puts in
his pouch, that's its business. That's that's true. All right. Uh,
let's go live to our Kangaroo Insider Iowa Sam for
(01:54:45):
the latest Sam. Listen. I know you've got to deal
with these kangaroos somehow, Why don't they go and get
the guy from that viral video who slugged the kangaroo
in the face. Oh yeah, he was kicking his dog. Yeah,
get that guy and deal with your kangaroo. Let me
tell you something. Uh, there's there's pictures of kangaroos standing
right and they look at you and the only thing
that they don't do is lift their shirt up to
(01:55:05):
show you they got a gat in their belt like
ice cube and uh boys in the hood. Yeah, they're
straight up. Kangaroos are always packing. Yea. By the way,
I went to an outback recently. Their beer selectionist What
the hell is that? I went to an outback recently.
Their beer selection awful, absolutely awful. I don't even I
(01:55:27):
don't know why I just thought of that. But you
said the kangaroo, and I thought, it's not fine eat
not that either. I just don't understand why there's a
pig in the train tracks. You meant, I don't know, Yeah,
it's weird. How big was the pig? It was a
pretty good sized. They had a little bit of difficulty
getting it into the police car before taking it to
the police kennels, where if a pig was following me
(01:55:53):
to to a train track, I would turn into Richie
incognito and assume somebody was working with the government. He like, like,
what what what would what would be what would be
more disturbing. Let's go around the room. If we can't
real quick, real quick, here one one last around the room.
Let's go around the room. Here. More disturbing. Okay, more
disturbing being at a train station and a pig is
(01:56:20):
following you, or having Richie Incognito throw weights at you
and say that he's working with the government. Iowa, Sam,
more disturbing. I would say incognito, But I will say
that the pig following you probably wants to eat you,
because that's what they do. They actually eat people. Like
if you fall down in a pig pen, they'll try
to eat you. They'll nibble at you, and then they'll
(01:56:41):
try to eat you. That's good, it's good. So that way,
you know what, though, I think we gotta come in man, Yeah,
I think we get they that could be interminted a
couple of ways around incognito, Mike Mayer, I gotta go incognito.
That's just that's just too weird for me. Ralph Irvan
the pigs. You know they're they're coming after me. That's
(01:57:04):
a a lot of ways to take a lot of ways.
We can take that one too, Ralph. And we will not.
We will not. We will not discuss who Ralph things
out with late at night. All right, Jonas stocks good stuff, Ralph.
Jonas knocks here Fox Sports Ralph. That was That was
(01:57:24):
this week's edition of this craft Uh Coming up next
here on Fox Sports Radio. This may be the most
disrespectful thing ever done by a host here in the
history of Fox Sports Radio. Do not go anywhere. We'll
have it for you next, Jonas Knox, Fox Sports Radio.
When you hear the Celia Cruise, except if you listen
(01:57:46):
to the podcast right now, you can't hear the music.
But when you hear the Celia Cruise on the radio,
you know we're winding things down here on FS are
we will have another edition of out of Context coming
up here in just a moment. Is where pee full
uh in sports say some things that they didn't mean
to be dirty or raunchy or a bit graphic, and
Mike Mayer takes their words and he twists them and
(01:58:09):
makes them sound inappropriate. So we'll have that coming up
here in just a couple of moments. I do want
to let you know Brian No and Andy Furman are
coming up in less than ten minutes from now here
on Fox Sports Radio. Brian No, Andy Ferman. Brian No
was kind enough to send me a gift in the
mail recently. Good guy. I mean, I'll take that too
(01:58:31):
if he could provide that. I'm always uping for that.
So so very kind of Brian to do that. Andy
Furman continues to provide gifts here on Fox Sports Radio.
Like his last couple of retweets, Andy Furman, for some reason,
felt the need to retweet this from Time Time Magazine
on Twitter, why you need to stop eating egg whites.
(01:58:55):
Andy Ferman followed that up by retweeting this from CBS
News on Twitter. Is cockroach milk back as a super
food trend? Of course, this coming on the heels of
Andy Ferman with maybe the most disrespectful thing ever done
by a host here in the history of Fox Sports Radio,
(01:59:16):
sending a tweet out earlier and attaching everybody that works
on the show in the tweet. Nice guy, right, I
mean he attached Fox Sports Radio Brian No, Ralph Irvin
Um and Ryan Dennis his executive producer. Only problem is
he attached the wrong Ryan Dennis. So the guy that
(01:59:38):
he did attach sends the following to Andy Furman. Hi, Andy,
curious about you attaching my name here? What's the meaning?
Hope all as well? Andy Ferman on Twitter is like
a giraffe on roll on roller blades. It's unbelievable, man,
unbelievable to watch. All Right. With that being said, it's
(02:00:01):
time for this. It's time to make people in sports
sound even worse than they already did this week. Similar
to this long sentence that I just read. It's out
of contact. Those guys are huge. They say we care
about sweat pants right here. They can also get in
you when he needs to. I'm not scared to take
(02:00:22):
it in the face. Can't cut things short. There's no
reason to cut things short. Drive backwards more than I
do forward. I know what's the long road ahead, But
at the end of the day, I have a road
sooner later is going to rob them. Let him get
off and choke out everybody else. You know, I just
want to get behind something. It's been for him. I
just don't want to rush up too soon and uh
and and make it, make it any worse than it
(02:00:42):
has to be. All I know is I'm twenty three,
and I got a lot of ball ahead of me.
We've been working against garbage cans and uh rope robots
and mannequins. I like it tight, I like it small.
I gotta get more pills on Tuesday afternoons as well.
I didn't have the thrust. I was praying that thing
get in there all No, come on, Dave Jonas, son
(02:01:04):
of a bit
