Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports. Well. Actually, as it turns out,
Jim Jackson is not here today for what has to
be an all timer, the best excuse I've ever heard
to miss work on Father's Day. Jim Jackson just became

(00:23):
a father for the second time about four in the
morning Pacific time. I've already got pictures on my phone
on a little tyke. Congratulations to Jim Jackson. There's no
better way to do Father's Day than that he's at
the hospital right now. If he's listening fist pound to you,

(00:43):
my man, Hope everything is great. Sounds like everybody's happy
and healthy, and of course that means you. Rich orn Berger,
get stuck with me again for the seventh day this week.
We do radio every single day. You were drafted by
the pay tree. It's the word. There is no days off,
and apparently you took it to heart. I really did,

(01:05):
I really did. I Uh Now, now I'm I'm sort
of seeing what Bill was saying the whole time, like
what we were doing over there was clowning around. This
is real work. This is this is real work. And
as we're sitting here with four screens in the Fox
Sports Radio studios, uh, we have two of them on golf,
and uh that that is really to me what's on

(01:26):
the hearts and minds of everybody on Father's Day. Typically
the Open falls on this weekend and we get to
enjoy it. Here we are here, we are now amid
one of the bigger I don't know, gaffs. We'll we'll
call it. In PHILM. Michelson's long storied career, Uh, he
commits a a parliamentary era on the green at thirteen yesterday,

(01:52):
the ball was rolling off towards the fairway. He leaps
over the line of the golfer who had already joined
him on the dance for there, and then batted the
ball back up onto the green. He sat at I
think six instead of five on the fairway because it's
a two stroke penalty. And then after Rimen one out
sunk the putt golf. The world the purists went nuts

(02:16):
over there. There are people who have suggested that Phil
Mickelson should withdraw as a sign of respect to the sport.
He should not have even shown up today, should apologize
and turn around and go home. You know, I was
thinking the same the same thing today about my shift here.
I was like, well, I was very disrespectful yesterday. I

(02:36):
should just withdraw from my post here nowton to three. Um,
that would have been uh, that would have been a
bad idea that I would have been sitting here by
myself on Father's Day. That would have stopped anyway. First off,
and happy father Day. See thank you. Yeah, and to
every single one of you out there who have kids, Um,
congratulations on I always say this, Uh, congratulations on what

(02:58):
led to you having kids, because that's not easy to
do once you get married, you know. Congratulations. Yeah, So
congratulations congrats on the conception of those children. And then
and then, uh, just just remember how important you are
every single day in guiding those little ones to becoming

(03:19):
productive members of society. So, UM, thoughts with every single
one of you today, Poppy Father's Day. We're live Geico,
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen
cent of more on car insurance? Guy could dot com
for a free rate quote? So I see, uh Michelson
and this whole thing yesterday and immediately thought of Kevin
Durant and um, actually many many many NBA players, but

(03:41):
Kevin has perfected this. We saw it in the finals repeatedly.
It always made Jeff van Gundy have a little mini aneurysm.
So somebody would guard Kevin Durant in an io and
what would Kevin do if your arms were in the
wrong spot? Swing his arms from side to side and
get a foul called completely unnatural motion. Not something he

(04:05):
would have done otherwise. But he's taking advantage of what
is a loophole in the ruling system, right, That's what
athletes often do. Coaches also and correct and if you
don't like it, it is on the sport, in my opinion,
to change the rule. So if you think that what

(04:28):
Phil Mickelson did yesterday was d Q worthy, then change
the rule and state that if you do that, you
are disqualified. It's actually that simple. But instead what Phil did,
because I thought he was gonna come to the press
afterwards and either say I lost control of my emotions,

(04:48):
I'm sorry, or the U s g A lost this course,
this stinks Like many other golfers did, he didn't either.
He went with door number three. He was like, no,
it was strategic. The ball was to go all the
way down the hill. I think it's gonna be really
hard for me to go through this process again, so
I thought, you know what, I'll just take the two
stroke penalty. He took advantage of a rule which in

(05:10):
sports happens all the time. That's all. This is nothing more.
No need for an apology, no need for a disqualification,
no need for all of the outrage. If you don't
like it, golf needs to change the rule. You know,
it's so funny that this this steered your thoughts towards
the NBA, because it did. It did with me as well,

(05:31):
and it did in a different way because I was
thinking about Phil Mickelson and who who he would who
he is, and who would get away with what he did?
And if that were John Daly, nobody would have batted
a night. John Daly did do that. John Daly did
do that. He did that nineteen years ago at Pinehurst
here and that it was an emotional outburst and he

(05:53):
got ripped for that too. But he didn't need to
do he disqualified, he didn't need to apologize. He drives
an on the world in a van. So everybody was like,
oh that hewhears the American flag trunks and you know,
you'll throw his his four iron into the river if
it's not working out for him, like John Delhi has
that m O. The modus operandum of daily is to

(06:17):
expect the unexpected thinking the NBA. When you see a
player like Dennis Rodman or even a Draymond Green these days,
get a technical foul, it raises zero eyebrows. Nobody seems
to care. Everybody just goes on with their day. Oh well,
that's Draymond being Draymond. Oh well, that's Dennis Rodman. That's
what Dennis Rodman did. The worm. You know, he's banging

(06:38):
on the boards, he got the rough stuff, the painted
had all this stuff. Okay, when it's Kevin Durant having
a five technical foul season, uh, coming down the stretch
of the regular season, articles are written. People are like, well,
what's going on with Kevin Durant? Right? How how could
he have done this? Who is he became comming? You've changed, Katie,

(07:02):
You've changed? This is this is the deal. The reason
why this blew up the way it did is because
Phil Mickelson has always been squeaky clean Phil. I mean, yeah,
there were questions about taxes in some of the comments
he made, and yeah, rumor has it Phil likes to gamble.
But this is the guy who supports his wife through cancer.

(07:22):
And this is the guy who who has uh a
time to sign every single autograph on his way into
the clubhouse. And this is the guy that everybody loves
a lot of smiles on the courses, uh, post game interviews,
post post round interviews and pressed uh he always handles
with a ton of class. This isn't John Daly, this
is Phil Mickelson. And so golf loves to hold onto

(07:45):
these guys and set him on the pedestal and show
the world how much etiquette it can exude and how
proper this sport can be. Meanwhile, you are missing the
boat Golf, U, s G A, p g A, any
other tours out there, any other golf governing bodies. You
need more of this sort of stuff. This is what

(08:08):
the world is turning towards. People like to lean into
the feuds, They like to be let in behind the ropes.
They like to see a player's sweat a little bit.
As a matter of fact, this open is so heavily
publicized because you're having golfers break their normal parlance and
go this is rigged against us. Look at this course.

(08:29):
What are we supposed to do out here? It was
really strange because for two days everybody was like, this
is hard, but it's fair, and then all of a sudden,
a blink of an eye, it totally changed and everybody
yesterday was complaining, which we'll get to in a few
minutes as well. By the way, let's update you. Switzerland
has just put a head and ran off of a
corner kick and they have tied Brazil. And there's been
some great great there in the fiftieth minute right now,

(08:51):
fifty first minute, I should say, and uh, there's been
some great soccer at the World Cup today. Mexico with
the great upset of Germany earlier today and the stands
were crying it was great. There's controversy in that match
from before it even started, based on the greatest soccer
player that's ever played for America. Will get to that
as well, but to let everybody know, this is a

(09:12):
really good match. It's on one one tie now in
the fifty second minute between Switzerland Brazil. You and I
talked about this a lot, and it's a hard nut
to crack because a golf or a baseball they get
to where they are for a certain reason. It's been
a long story. They've been around for a long time,

(09:35):
and they've done it a certain way, so it's a
hard message to get to them. Hey, time to change.
But here's the deal. If you're golf, if this is
the way you react to things that the average fan
sees on TV and goes, that was kind of funny

(09:55):
or oh that's interesting. Interesting and funny are good. Those
are good things in American content. I like interesting, I
like funny. If something looks interesting or funny, and your
sports reaction is oh no, no, no, no, we don't

(10:19):
We don't wear shoes, and we don't run around frolicking,
and your color, your sport cannot be afternoon tea. In England,
we wear long pants around your gentlemen, you can't do
you can't do it. You can't do it. If you
want to resonate, you can't do it. Here's golf. Oh gosh,

(10:39):
what's wrong with our industry? Well, we're not selling anything anymore,
Dick sporting goods. Yeah, you know what will pass reading.
I can't do this. This is in all facets of life.
I was reading this article recently about how church attendance
is down, and like the Catholic Church is freaking out
about it. You know, and I thought like, okay, well,
what's based around with the Bible? The Bibles are really

(11:02):
really long, old book that's a bore, and so people, right,
people have a hard time open it up and going,
you know what, time for a good read. It's just
not gonna be that way anymore. There's so many things
happening around the world and so much available at our
fingertips that unless you're delivering something old and making it

(11:23):
new in a palatable fashion for today's day and age,
you're going to lose most of the people who you
typically were able to to to contain or or cast
inside of your net. Yeah, baseball, golf, you're struggling the
same way. The church is the same way any older
uh standby that we've gotten used to hearing about because

(11:45):
you're boring. You have to catch up with the times,
otherwise you'll get lost in the wash. All right, we'd
love to hear from a bunch of your on this
Did the filth thing bother you or not? Eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox welcomed away in on that
Right now, we've got got some uh trade proposals for
Kawhi Leonard. We're gonna get to that We're keeping an
eye on the World Cup. They're big stories going on

(12:07):
at the US Open right now as well. And Hank Haney,
Tiger's former coach, is gonna join us in less than
twenty minutes, so also coming up next. All of these
golfers got all mad yesterday. They got all ticked off,
and they forgot about something that already happened this year
in sports, which should have been their main thought. We'll

(12:29):
tell you about that next Fox Sports Radio. All right,
what does it mean when Geico says this fifteen minutes
could save you fifteen per cent a more on car insurance,
You probably should have gone to Geo dot com fifteen
minutes ago. That's for you, Rich um Our audience doesn't
know this. But anytime the rejoined music is Bruno Mars,

(12:51):
Rich loses his bananas. Yeah, I mean like, yeah, sorry,
I'm late to the mike. I'm dancing this his music
for whatever reason, every single time, I can't keep the
feet still. That's the idea. Yeah, you know, you gotta gift.

(13:12):
Think there's something here. What do you go by? You
go by Bru Listen, Brue. You're doing it all right.
You just stay in the past. Brooks Kepka is the
leader at the US Open. Where have I heard that before?
And Patrick Reid is in second? One shot back like
this is great? If if Patrick Read wins the US Open,

(13:33):
you know, you know what we just saw with Ovechkin
in the cup, Yeah, you know where he's just like
ten day bender. Everybody whoa just let's get wasted and
go everywhere and they'll be women in fans and fountains,
and so Reid will do that if he wins the
US Open. He sort of did a mini version of
that when he wants the masket. But if he if

(13:55):
he wins the first two majors of the season, I
don't believe he's gonna be able to keep it together.
He'll kind of be like you when Bruno Mars comes on.
Well yeah, no, no, And and honestly, I'm shocked that
he's not golfing in his green jacket as we speak.
That everything else in it's about two weeks too, maybe
months before he took that sucker off. The dry cleaning
bill must have been I mean, so many mustard stands

(14:17):
and what have you. Yeah, No, Patrick Read, A lot
of guys who whose names weren't really near the top
of the board are kind of snuck snuck up in
with the leaders from yesterday, right, So Tommy Fleetwood is
now shot back to he was. He was like nine
over par right, and now he's seven under for the day.

(14:39):
By the way, Dustin Johnson standing over a birdie putt
right now to also get to two over, which would
be one shot off the lead. Let's see if the
number one player in the world can get that in.
He does, so we're set up for a good finish.
I don't know if we're set up for a fair finish.
Here's why all the guys, some of the kept Patrick

(15:02):
read guys like this are in it. Why are they
in it? Well, because if you were on the course
late yesterday, and by definition the leaders were, the course
got to a point where it was almost unplayable. Good
shots were not being rewarded. It was like trying to
land balls on a glass tabletop, so you can't do it.

(15:24):
And uh, okay. A lot of players complained and we
talked about it as it happened. Yesterday. Zack Johnson came
off the course and said, the U. S g. A
has lost this course. Uh. And we weren't really big
on the complaining and even though there was a lot
more complaining by a lot of players, even to the
point where the U s G. A Rich apologized said, yep,

(15:46):
we we didn't realize that the wind was gonna blow
like this, and it got to a point where good
shots were not being rewarded, screwed up like truly, it
became one of those things where up, look, I tweeted
this out yesterday, and I don't I don't often do
this because I I think that complaining can drive some

(16:11):
entertainment with golf, with any sport, like sometimes it's good,
it's it's just good buzz around. And this, to me,
it fell a little bit flat for me. And here's why.
I remember one time, Uh, it was a Monday morning.
We were breaking down game film from a Sunday and
it was a wet, terrible like the field conditions were

(16:33):
awful type of game, real sloppy, and one of our
offensive lineman he pulled out to he had to he
had to pull. It was like one of those outside
players where it was a toss in the backfield and
he was leading the charge. He's an offensive lineman. They
call it, they call it a pull. He pulled behind
the line of scrimmage and he's and he's leading the
running back and he slips because the linebacker hit the

(16:55):
brakes quick. And you know, offensive lineman in open field
on wet wet field cans can look like pigs on ice.
And that's exactly what happened. He couldn't drive his hooves
in and he goes slip, sliding out of the way.
The linebacker he was able to to come to balance
and absolutely destroy our running back, like I mean, smoked him.

(17:15):
He spent some time on the sideline. So this play
comes on and our offensive line coach, who was pausing
the action to prove a point about gathering yourself in
the rain, in the elements, and the offensive woman and
his and he shall remain unnamed, he said, while I
slipped because there was a divot in the field, you know,

(17:38):
the field soaking wet, and I hit a divot and
I just couldn't. There would have been everything you're giving
me as far as coaching points would not have applied here.
So that he's he's rewinding the film and playing this
play over and over again. He pauses it again and
he jumps out of his seat and this player who
who answered who who defended himself because the field was

(17:59):
too wet for him to come to balance and he
stepped in and diving. All these excuses. He m f
him like like a Samuel L. Jackson level, m fing
like it was. It was a torrential downpour f Ward
in the offensive line room. The point he made, though,
was one that I think she'd been shared with the

(18:20):
p g A, the U s g A, and all
the players who showed up in the field this weekend.
Everybody's playing on the same field. Well, so hang on
a second, because a lot of the golf world is
responding to that consistent response from fans, because no, they weren't.
If you played yesterday at nine in the morning and

(18:41):
you played yesterday at one in the afternoon, you got
two totally different courses. Tony Finel went out in the morning,
he shot a sixty six, he was still eight shots back,
and then by the end of the day he was
in first place because the guys in the afternoon, it
all came backward. I'm willing to admit Rich, if you
played in the afternoon, you got a crappy break yesterday,

(19:03):
There's no doubt it wasn't fair but what we also
say yesterday, sports fans don't ever want to hear the
three words it's not fair. So you got a bad break,
but guess what bad breaks happened? And I think often
we're judged and you're gonna game. Championships are not based
on how we react to bad breaks. Lebron James got one.

(19:27):
The ref sort of made it up like they went
along game one. He decided to go break his hand.
That's not that. That's not a good thing. The Cobs
years ago, Wrigley Field, moist lou and the Cubs got
a bad break. Steve Bartman had headphones on and he
reached out and he knocked the ball away. They react,
They gave up eight runs in the inning. They didn't
need to do that. The example I wanted to give

(19:49):
every golfer who got a bad break yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles,
they lost their quarterback. He was gonna be the m
v P. They went one the Super Bowl anyway, right,
that's how you have to react. Well, I admit it,
bad break, but head down, go play great round Today
when the US open, how many football games and I'm

(20:11):
comparing it to the sport I played, though, and and
for good reason here, because how many how many football
games you turn on You're like, well, could snow anytime now,
I mean, we could really get some snow and the
winds picking up. Where the second half is so different
than the first half as far as far as the
weather conditions go. That kicker who looked like an absolute stud,

(20:32):
just pegging him through maybe forty five yards out, all
of a sudden he looks like the goat, and I
don't mean the good kind in the second half because
he can't hit a kick from fifteen yards away because
wind is absolutely howling in the opposite direction. It's just look,
those are the elements. I get it. The sun cooked
the greens and the wind was blowing in the U

(20:52):
S g A create a really difficult course to begin with,
so any further uh issue with weather makes it nearly unplayable.
But that is nobody's problem except for yours in that
moment that round. And I get it, a lot of
money is staked on whether or not you're placing, whether
or not you're in the top twenty five, whether or

(21:14):
not you're finishing near the near the top ten. I
get that, but nobody cares. I mean, if that kicker
comes off the field after missing the game winner, and
he says to the rest of us, he goes, hey, guys, yeah,
but the wind was really blowing. We'll be like, yeah,
but we don't care because some of us were out
there slamming our heads for three hours while while you

(21:36):
were supposed to be keeping warm on the sideline and
making sure you could hit that kick. And guess what,
most of the time you don't hear anything like that.
You're a guy, go I'm sorry. He's not blaming the weather,
he's not blaming the wind. I'm not asking for the
golfers to apologize for playing poorly. But don't come to
a microphone and talk about how this course in the
afternoon was unfair. I I showed no quarter to millionaire

(21:59):
millionaire whining about a game. It's just never gonna happen. Well,
and the fans win. I know some people are like, oh,
we didn't like watching it. Well, guess what. Four the
best players in the world right now, Three of them
already have at least one major champion under their belt.
They're battling it out. Two shots separate them, and they
look like they're all going low. And we get to

(22:21):
sit back and watch Happy Father's Day. Al Right, Hank Hainey,
Tiger's old coach's gonna join us in about nineties seconds.
But right now, let's bring in a guy who who
just had a Brazilian this morning, and that's David Gascon. Hey, Dad,
but I wanted to I wanted to see you had

(22:43):
a few options there. That was kind of a choose
your own adventure and uh, and I like what you
did with it. Good job. I appreciate that. Gentlemen. We
stick with all the the action that's on the pitch
right now. Speaking of Brazil, I got Brazil right now
in FS one, a little bit of trouble trying to

(23:03):
Stephen sooner from inches away. It's Switzerland less than five
minutes into the second half, drawn level with Brazil. Yeah
it is one one. As they play into the seventies
second minute, a corner kick, aheader and we are all
drawn even with Switzerland and Brazil. Again. All the action
is on FS one today. Serbia this morning beat Costa

(23:25):
Rica one nothing and guys, the the upsit so far
in Group F give and go from here he comes
as leads in plus Ulo coming looking shooting close leads
and I was also on FS one. That goal was
the only goal in game winning goal one nothing Mexico

(23:45):
beating Germany. It's the first time they have lost in
eight matches in World Cup play. The defending champs go down.
If you actually put a little bit of coin on
Mexico to win today, they were plus six hundred, So
that's a bad coin. You've been right there, So that's
pretty nice little bitcoin on that. Yeah, I don't even
know if Curry who knows really honestly, yea getting us

(24:06):
open right now. Brooks Kepka is your leader. He's even
for the tournament, minus three on the day. Tommy Fleetwood
is minus seven for the day. He's two strokes behind
Patrick Reid, who Robert Garret wants to win this thing
is uh, He's at plus one right now, one stroke
behind the leader in Major League Baseball. Handful of games
in progress later on today, Mark your San Francisco Giants

(24:27):
are now looking up at the Los Angeles Dodgers. First
pitch from Chavez Ravina is at four o'clock. Yeah, the
Giants are The Giants are not very good. What the
hell happened to them? They're not very good? Alright? Yeah,
that explains, I mean, you know, like like everybody, I mean,
I know, here we go, like we're talking about excuses.
They lost I think more than half of their pitching staff, um,

(24:50):
and I don't know how great they were to begin with. Yeah,
so there you go. I think that's what happened season. Yeah,
Blue Jays and Nationals are tied at five up right now.
Atlanta leads San Diego to nothing. That games in the
sixth in ning, Indians four twins one, Orioles are doubly up,
the Marlins eight to four, Phillies four Brewers too, and
the Rockies leading Arlington one nothing over the Rangers. Tonight

(25:13):
you get the Angels and a's San Francisco l A
Mets in Arizona gets the Diamondbacks of Arizona loses today,
Dodgers would be a w L A wins today, they'd
be a half game back in first place in the
National League West. They were dreadful for the start of
the season to kind of recover, so they've had a
good June. I think what six games separates the entire
National League competitive? So yeah, everybody, everybody's still fine. Here.

(25:37):
We are halfway through June. By the way, Dave, will
you please let the announcers know we know f s
one Fox Sports Radio. We're all friends here. Um, if
somebody is ahead by one and the other team ties
it up, please feel free to use my favorite soccer term,
the equalizer. Equalizer you know, like level, uh? Levels? Fine,

(26:02):
and can you say the leveler? Yeah? But level is
like where? Yeah? That feels now. I feel like I'm
hanging a picture in my living room. Somebody bring a level.
I need to look at the like. I love when
they the equalize off. We can That's my favorite. We'll
need Rich to go up and down shirtless though the
game is being scored and our goals being scored. Take
to turn some Bruno and Mars again. I gotta throw

(26:24):
the shirt off, slide on my knees. Not gonna be
a difficult negotiation. I know Rich pretty well. All you
gotta do is okay, thanks David. Stuff all right. We're
live in the Geico Fox Sports Video studios. It's easy
to say fift cinemare on car insurance with a Geico,
got a guy dot Com or call seven Otto. The
only hard part figuring out which way is easier. I

(26:45):
got a couple of questions to throw out there as
we try to connect with Hank Haney and and Rob
said he wants Patrick read. We're gonna have to I
want to know why. But but before we get to that, UM,
I want to ask a question on behalf of my mom? Alright, Okay,
So staying with the folks this weekend always good if

(27:10):
my kids can be with me on Father's Day, but
then I can also be with with my dad on
Father's Day. So we're hanging down with the family this weekend.
And so we woke up at their house and uh,
my mom takes a couple of hours. It's kind of
like a former NFL offensive lineman takes a couple of
hours for the body to loosen up there in the morning, shower,
a little stretching. So she head straight to the couch

(27:34):
and that's where she is. And I don't know what
she would normally watch on a Sunday morning, but on
this particular Sunday morning with her son at the house,
and said, a mom, Mexico's playing Germany. Let's turn it on.
She wasn't super thrilled or anything like that, but she's game. Okay.

(27:55):
So we're watching and Mexico scores that goal and they
go up one nothing, and there goes the camera to
all of the people all over the crowd, and the
announcers on site said that, you know, they're loose. Count
was that it was about eighty twenty in favor of
Mexican supporters. So she had two questions. She was just like, wow,

(28:16):
how did everybody get to Russia? She's like, that's pretty amazing.
But then the bigger question, the bigger question was She's like,
oh my gosh. And then she wanted to know, now,
why does everybody care so much? Ah? Okay, because she
gets sports, her son, she works for Fox Sports. She

(28:37):
she gets it and and she's a fan. But their tears.
There are people with their face in their hands. There
are people who look like they almost can't even deal
with the emotion and the joy that is taking place
over a goal. Mexico takes a one nothing lead late
first half. Why does everyone care so much? What? What

(29:01):
should I say to her in that in that position?
I tried to explain it a little bit. I don't
I don't know if what I said resonated with her.
You know, it's it's it's different for everybody, but it
all is this it comes from the same feeling. It's investment, right,
It's whatever you invest the most of your time, and
whether it's a hobby or a passion, or your work

(29:22):
or your children, whatever you are emotionally investing yourself in
the most. When you get to see whatever it is
that you've spent time with, that you've spent time on,
so you'd have to connect with her at that level. Um,
and then you see the success. Like I know when
I was gonna look back out to my parents, um,

(29:43):
from from you know, the stairs of of the graduation day,
there's gonna be tears. I knew when on draft day,
if my name should be called in the NFL draft
back in two thousand nine, there would be tears and
there were like it was seeing something that they prioritized
over a lot of things throughout their entire lives enjoy

(30:07):
success was going to give them exultation like they they
could could have never foreseen. And there are some people
who invest themselves in whatever hobbies did it. I don't
care if you planted a lemon tree seven years ago
and finally, after all this time, it bears fruit for
the first time this summer, if if it's enough of

(30:30):
an emotional investment. It can be that big of a deal.
And for soccer fans, I think, especially in Mexico, especially
how heavily favored Germany was going into this, this group
play this, I mean they're looking to repeat from their
World Cup last time. This this is a huge moment
for Mexican fans or fans of Team Mexico because that

(30:54):
investment is real. Well, her response was, she goes, wouldn't
just think if if American fans were like that, and
I go, well, first off, mom, some of them are.
So some of them are. I go. If you gathered
a big group of millennials and try to find out
what the number one sport is, I go, you might

(31:14):
be surprised in terms of what answer you got. Soccer
is is absolutely right there, number one, but number two.
You know, if you're a soccer fan, you have a team,
a team that plays year round every year. Um, but
this is different. This is different and and you know, listen,
obviously there are a lot of people in Mexico who

(31:36):
did have the resources to get themselves to Russia and
go watch soccer. So I think sometimes when we talk
about third world nations, there's this idea that like everybody's
living in a shanty. That's not necessarily the case, but
I do think there is a dynamic when it comes
to the World Cup once every four years, and there

(31:58):
are people from a nation that often either is short
on resources or feeling left out in the big picture,
short on population, like Iceland short on population. Look at
the dynamic that we're talking about specifically with Mexico in
this country on our border right now. There's a lot

(32:19):
of emotion that soccer specifically taps into on those social
issues because it's on the world stage, Like when are
we going to if you are from Mexico, When is
Mexico going to be on the level or even ahead

(32:40):
of the United States of America or German. It's here,
it's this morning, and and that was the answer I
tried to get to. And I think one of one
of the kids tripped somebody else or whatever, and so
I never got that all out. And maybe when everybody
goes to bed tonight, I can re up that conversation
with her. But I'm like, that's that's what you're watching

(33:01):
right Let's talk about sports. And to use the word
that we were chatting with David Gascon at the bottom
of the hour here, the equalizer. That's what we're talking
about when you're talking about sports. I grew up a
broke kid in a very, very affluent area, was looked
down upon for most of my upbringing, and it was
a struggle, like because you never felt like you were

(33:22):
good enough. You were comparing yourself to those around you
a lot and and failing to to really be on
the level. Yeah. Yeah, the joneses is a hard thing
where you are in life. The joneses is tough. I
ended up having success in football and all of a sudden,

(33:42):
the admiration flipped. That's sports man. You could be in
Mexico and you could have a lot of things not
going your way, but for a moment in time, you
could be on the level with the rest of the world. Um,
all right, Mark and Rich Fox Sports Radio, we'd love
for you to weigh in on anything you're hearing. Its
seven seven on Fox while we are on the World Cup.

(34:04):
I noticed a dynamic yesterday that I thought was incredibly unfortunate. Uh,
we'll let you alright, great news, quick way you can
save some money. Switch the Geico, go to guy dot
com and in fifteen minutes you can say f or
more on car insurance, Alex Marvez. Next hour, I think

(34:25):
Johnny Manzel made a huge mistake. We'll explain that next hour.
We have some very unofficial, but I think pretty educated
guesses on the offers that the Spurs are going to
be dealing with. I would love to know which one
you'd take, um, But you know, I saw this yesterday
and this is something that is impossible to avoid in sports.

(34:49):
Just ask Lebron James and Michael Jordan's who are compared
to one another every possession, every possession Lebron comes across
half court the month of mayor June. Oh, Jordan wouldn't
have done that, or Jordan couldn't have done that where
Jordans could have done that and he didn't constant So

(35:11):
we're not gonna avoid this. But man, what I love too,
Leo Messi is thirty years old. What is happening right
now is probably the last time that we're gonna see
this guy on this stage. This is probably it. And
he's great, He's at worst, the second best player on

(35:34):
planet Earth at worst, and what are we doing with him?
Because a goalie made a great play on a penalty
kick effort yesterday and the day before Cristiano Ronaldo had
an unbelievable match and scored three times. Oh, we're doing
the lebron MJ thing. Ronaldo greater than MESSI. I just

(35:59):
want to sit back over these next couple of weeks
and I want to I want to take Messy for
everything that he is, and I don't want to spend
any time on what anybody thinks he isn't because he's
this tiny little genius as they call him, and he's
fantastic and I love watching him play, and he's at

(36:21):
that Peyton Manning level where someone's like, well I see
the greatness, but he's never won the whole thing. The difference, though,
is is that a World Cup is not like being
the quarterback in the NFL. You can't just be like, Okay,
I'm one guy out here, I'm gonna go win the
World Cup. You can't do that. And so I'm not
gonna spend any time this month holding that against Leo Messi.

(36:43):
Whether he wins this Cup or not, I just wish
we could all sit back and enjoy whatever he's got left.
He potentially could do another one. I think he's twenty eight,
and Ronaldo's thirty one and really at the end of
the rope there. But even having said that, you've got
Messy at twenty eight, I've got him at thirty. I thought,
I think he was born in eighties seven. Well, the

(37:04):
thing is, though, when you look at these two guys, uh,
is that what it is? Yeah, so so I must
have been looking at Well, here's here's the problem. I'm
bouncing around the internet right now because quite frankly, there's
so much information available on the comparison that there I've
I've stumbled into Messy versus Ronaldo dot net. Like this

(37:28):
is a real thing. This is a real thing that
human beings have invested real time and tails and uh,
you know, I feel like it is a vehicle to
promote over other things. There's a lot of there's a
lot of sports betting pages that are popping up, a yeah,
but you know they're talking about their goal scored in
all competitions La Liga, the Champions League, other cops obviously

(37:49):
World Cup included there. But you think about you think
about what Ronaldo and Messy means on the scale and
scope of what Sack he means to the world, and yeah,
well it's unfair, it's human nature. We love comparisons. In fact,
it's it's the way I could describe a movie to you.

(38:11):
Is I compared to another movie? You see? Like you know,
there's this new movie out and you gotta see it's
really funny, you know what. It reminds me of The Hangover,
not like two or three, like the first one. How
the guys really like That's what people do. We love.
We love to label things. We love to compare things.
When somebody's about to be drafted, he's a tall receiver, uh,

(38:31):
you know, all of a sudden, you start making comparisons.
You know you remember back in the day, Uh you
know that the what what's his name? With the But
the point is you're gonna you're gonna find a comparison
and label against. A big quarterback is gonna be compared
to Ben Roethlisberger, A fast, dynamic quarterback is gonna be
compared to Mike Vick. It's just the way, it's just

(38:53):
the way we work. It's human natures. That's fine, that's fine.
But what I'm careful to do. For instance, everybody but
he knows I pulled for the Warriors, but I'm also
a big lebron fan. I can watch Kevin Durant and
Lebron James play against one another and like them both.
I can appreciate what both of them are doing without

(39:14):
having to do on every little moment, Oh, this one's
better than that one here and that one. Therefore, can't
do that. Instead of grabbing these two things and going
one has to be good and one has to be bad.
I can't both be good. Chocolate and vanilla. I like
them both. What's wrong with it? But I bet you
like them. I bet you like one more than the chocolate. Okay,

(39:35):
so it's vanilla, and we could war over this if
we wanted to. Sure, you're wrong, but anyway, the point
is opinions that people have, Like it's actually think about
when you're purchasing a home. You're not gonna look at
two homes and go, you know what, I like them both.
This experience one time there was a day. There was
a day and this was my first, uh first real

(39:57):
estate purchase on my own, and it was like the
marketed turned and so you know, my agents were like,
we could put out multiple offers and then on one
day I got all three. I got three on the
same day. I'm like, oh hell, we gotta gotta pull
back on two of them. So no, I I understand,

(40:18):
I understand what you're saying. Yeah, the world's not black
and white. There's tons of gray area, but we're forced
to make ultimate choices all the time, and so I
think that's why it trickles into sports. So you can
like Ronaldo all you want. I told you the story
yesterday about the eighty year old woman at the fifth store.
Oh messy, it's so famous. And they can make the kicks. No, no,

(40:43):
like the goalie made an incredible play. Um, all right,
we're on this coming up, Mark and Wrench on Fox
Sports Radio. The offers the spurs are about to get.
I think we got a couple al right in for
Jim Jackson today, rich Orneberger. Jim had his second child

(41:03):
last night. Um and about four in the morning, I
should say, so this morning so great. Happy Father's Day
to him, and that's why he's not here. We'll take
it from here, Mark and rich The US Open closing
winning score will be no worse than two over par.
Tommy Fleetwood has just posted that after a sixty three today,
it's interesting U s g A apologized they might have

(41:26):
overcorrected today like they clearly were, like the course will
be more playable and softer tomorrow. And now guys are
firing sixty threes and sixty four. Yesterday couldn't break seventy five.
So uh, it's a little all over the place. Well,
this happens all the time in life too. I mean,
you're in the doghouse, So what do you do. You
buy earrings, You come home with flowers, and and it's like, look,

(41:49):
you didn't need to waste all the money. You just
have to stop being such an idiot in the first place.
You know, people are getting tired of same old politics,
and you know, get a little wary of politicians in general.
All of a sudden, all Trump, the star of the
Apprentice is sitting in the oval office. Over corrections happen often,
and so golf is no different. And sports often do

(42:09):
mimic life when you have a hard set of circumstances,
a hard set of consequences laid down for you. There's
many times, I'm sure. And it happens with children a bunch.
And here we are on Father's Day talking about Jim Jackson.
We both have a couple of kids. I have one
on the way. Actually in the middle of the month
of July. So that'll bring the family total to four.

(42:30):
You have three kids. Uh so you look at you
look at children. They often say it's not fair, and
that was the refrain we heard from golfers yesterday and
we commented on it. Yeah, life's not fair either. Yeah,
you gotta keep playing and uh so whoever does that, well,
today we'll get this thing. Just to update you. Right now,

(42:51):
brooks Kepka has got the lead by himself at plus one.
Dustin Johnson, just Birnie to get to plus two, Patrick Reed,
just Bogey Defaulto plus two. Fleetwood has already posted plus two.
Those are the four guys right now in the best
position and they're all separated by one shot. Brazil and
Switzerland over did they play to a draw? Okay, so

(43:13):
they played to a draw. That was a great match.
That was a great match between two really highly ranked teams.
I thought both of these matches today also between Mexico
and Germany very watchable, really really watchable stuff. It's been
a good start to the world cover Ronaldo with three goals.
Uh So, this has been this has been really cool.
The other big story that everyone's following this week obviously

(43:35):
is is Kawai Leonard. And what's cool about this from
a fan standpoint is it might happen quickly. I made
the point yesterday. If I'm the Spurs, I look at
Kauai and I kindly say, no, no, we're not We're
not trading you, because that's just gonna We're gonna get hosed,
and we're probably gonna get hosed either way. Bum will

(43:58):
play this out and see if I cannot get hosed.
In other words, I'm either going to try to convince
you to stay over the next eight months, or at minimum,
I'm gonna make you go play basketball and keep looking
good and see what kind of offers we get. But
the draft is in four days, and so a lot
of the assets teams might have that the Spurs want
are going to dry up if you don't go ahead

(44:19):
and grab him in the next four days. I got
too likely in the neighborhood of correct offers that I
know the Spurs are going to get. You tell me
which one you would take. The Lakers will call and
they will offer Kyle Kuzma, Alonzo ball Lowal Dang's expiring

(44:44):
contract in order to make the money work, and the
pick in the draft, Kyle Kuzma, Alonzo Ball, Loal Dang's
expiring contract, and the twenty five pick in the draft. Okay,
that's a lot, that's a hall, but I got it
written down, and I have a major question kind of

(45:06):
sandwiched in the middle of some good things. But go ahead,
what's the next I wonder if you're gonna do exactly
If I were the Spurs, I'll tell you how I
would respond to that. But we'll hold that the Boston
Celtics will also call and uh, they'll immediately let you know,
by the way, Jayson Tatum is not available. Sure, Oh no, no, no,
no no. We'll start with this offer, Spurs. We will

(45:30):
offer you Jalen Brown, Terry Rosier and next year's Sacramento
Kings two thousand, nineteen first round draft pick, which I
think is only protected if it's like number one. Okay,
So you're looking at a very very high draft pick

(45:52):
next year, Brown and Rosier? Which one do you like?
What is your response to the two? Okay? Uh? Two
things that that you fear when you're looking at the
Boston trade that you're proposing is Rosier came out of nowhere,
that is unproven that looked great in a postseason, it

(46:15):
looked composed. But also a lot of that may haw
to do with his coach. And I'm not I'm not
doubting that Popovich could probably it could probably make that fit.
But sometimes fits important and it doesn't work out everywhere
for everybody, and so I don't I don't know. I

(46:35):
don't know much about either style. Um, but I do
know what I've heard about pop And the clamps are on.
You know, you get in that system, you know the
clamps are on, so you know, you never know what
could happen with Rosier when he becomes a Spur. Also
the King's twenty nineteen first round pick. It is conditional,

(46:56):
so that that gives you some concern. But I'm more
concerned with the Lakers. So Kus a great player. Uh,
he's having dinner with Kobe, is getting advice from him
on a near consistent basis. You know, they're trying to
move the deng Uh contract than they should because it
was they won't have room for get Kawhi Leonard without
without that contract, because there's no way to make the

(47:17):
salaries work because the guys you want to give the
Spurs don't make that much money, right, precisely correct, and
then pick obviously is to to kind of ease the
Dean contract. But here's my problem. It's Alonzo Ball. Alonzo Ball.
It's not him. He is a pretty decent comparison to
a young Jason Kidd. I mean, he was injured for

(47:38):
a bunch of games. I think it was something like
twenty of thirty games that he was on the sidelines
for varying injuries. But okay, puts on a little way,
it hits the weight room a little bit harder, maybe
stops releasing disc tracks and works on his midrange jumper,
and you got yourself a nice little basketball player. My
problem is what he brings along with him is LaVar Ball,

(48:00):
and that is a headache. That is hell in a handbasket.
I don't want to deal with LaVar Ball if I'm
Greg Popovich. I don't want to deal with LaVar Ball
if I'm anyone, quite frankly who's not in desperate need
for a star or a storyline for the building to
be filled. Because for the first time in a long time,
we're making headlines, even if it's for the wrong reasons,

(48:22):
and the Spurs don't need that. So I think they
would probably turn their nose up at the Lakers and say, hey, Boston,
let's let's sit down. Really, I would have had a
counter offer for both, and I want to see who
responds to me. If I'm the Spurs, I look at
Boston's offer of Jalen Brown, Terry Rogier, and next year's
first round pick of the Kings, and I say, what

(48:46):
about Gordon Hayward. We're interested in Gordon Hayward as well,
and I think Boston would be pretty open to it.
I mean, Boston could move forward. Think about Tatum, Kawhi, Leonard,
Kyrie Irving, and how Al Horford all on the same
team as a hell of a basketball hell of the
basketball team. Why is dynamic offensively? He would play off

(49:10):
Kyrie well, and he's a better defender than Lebron was
while the two of them were playing together in Cleveland,
Kyrie and and Lebron. So I think that would be Peanut,
Butter and Jelly in a Boston uniform. But I have
a feeling the conversation between the Lakers and Spurs if
it happens, and it might not, because the Spurs might
just say, we don't want to talk to you. We're

(49:31):
not dealing with you because we're not gonna help you
build a super team in our conference. That might happen,
but remember, behind the scenes, they always know more than
we do. And Kawhi Leonard may well have already told
the Spurs, by the way, deal me to the Lakers
or else I'm going to call all the other teams

(49:53):
and tell them I'm not resigning with you. So the
Spurs might be in more of a corner than we realize.
And if they are, I think the Lakers are gonna
end up doing this. Here's how the convo will go.
We've got that in the draft, We've got the l
wal dang expiring deal financially will help, and we've got
three really good young players pick two. I think that's

(50:18):
how the conversation is gonna go. And if I'm the Spurs,
I happen to know that the Spurs liked Kyle Kusmen
the draft last year. He's coming. Guess who's not coming
with him, his distract buddy, like you said, And this
is where the Lakers it will have to hurt a
little bit. It will because I think Brandon Ingram is

(50:38):
gonna be at I really do. But how much does
it hurt if you get end up with quiet Letter,
Lebron James and Paul George not so much. Does Alonzo
fit in perfectly with those guys to a degree, he
kind of does. I mean he's got a little bit
of Lebron in terms of the way he wants to
have the ball and pass the ball. But those other guys,
Paul George and Kwai Leonard Fittnet to Alonzo Ball perfectly.

(51:01):
I can see a scenario where that's what ends up
happening if the Lakers really want to do this, because
it's gonna have to hurt a little bit, and the
Spurs don't want to deal with the Lakers. So in
order to make them deal with the Lakers, you've got
to offer what you have right now to offer, and
that's Kuzma and Ingram. I will tell you one thing
that makes a lot of sense to me about dealing

(51:24):
Kauai to the Lakers, even though it probably doesn't look
all that great for the Spurs until you see how Brandon, Brandon,
Ingram and uh Kuzma turn out. But here's the deal.
Like I look at Alonzo Ball as not being the
problem of Oar is the problem, but his admiration and
respect for his father, because remember he's twenty years old.

(51:45):
He's only two years departed from living inside of a
home with that person, and that person has a lot
to do with decision making at this point in his life.
I mean, he's hired his manager, he's launched a brand
for him to air. Things. To me, look like this.
If you get Kauai, potentially Paul George and Lebron James

(52:07):
in the building alongside Alonzo, the Lakers finally, finally, after
a year, have the ability to say, hey, we're all set, LaVar, Like,
we are all set unless you want Alonzo to be
playing in Siberia with his two brothers on a semi
pro team, Like, you're gonna really have to start towing

(52:28):
the line here because we want the Lakers to have
that conversation that's our own morality taking over. I don't
think they will. And if we believe LaVar's braggadosha, he
doesn't care, fine, trade him, We're going to continue to
be us. I honestly think that's would be that would
be his response. Um, So we'll see, We'll see how

(52:51):
that one plays out. But I have a feeling those
are probably somewhere along the lines of the phone calls
that might well be taking place right now as we peak.
And Happy Father's Day to all of you NBA executives
who have to spend the day on the phone. All right,
Mark and Rich on Fox Sports Radio riches in for
Jim Jackson. Today, the US Open leaders are about to
make the turn. We'll get you an update on Matt

Sports Radio Studios. US Open leaders hit the back nine.
Dustin Johnson's at plus two, kept because at plus one.
I think Reid is still at plus two. Fleetwood's in
the clubhouse at plus two. How good does that beer taste? Right? Like?
Fleetwood is? Just like, okay, suckers, you go deal with it.

(54:00):
That's hell out there. I'm gonna sit here, poor cold
one and uh, you know, watch you deal with it
and see if I end up winning the US Open.
I mean that is a pretty cool, yea. How do
you wan't actually drink because he might have to go
win a playoff. Yeah, so take it easy. Although some
guys play better after a beer and I play worse.

(54:20):
They call it birdie juice. Yeah, yeah, they call it birdie.
You just have to know your line, whether it's zero, one, two, three,
four or five whatever it is, no your optimum beer
golf spot, and you're in good shape. Um for me
at zero, but I which is unfortunate because I would
love to tip one back on the course, but I
know that my game is gonna go to hell if

(54:41):
I do. Alex Marve has in less than ten minutes.
So Johnny Manzel's in the CFL and uh, his team
had its first regular season game yesterday. Do you want
to hear his stats? He went zero for zero for
zero yards on zero plays. Yeah, he's a backup. Jeremiah
a soul. He's some men remember from Oregon as the

(55:01):
starting quarterback. I looked at his stats. They were really good.
Their team lost, but he had over three hundred yards
through the air, a touchdown throw, a touchdown run. He's
really good. And June Jones is the coach and he
has said all along. Souley is the starter. And now
that we're in this moment of reality, okay, we're actually
playing real CFL games and Johnny is really sitting there

(55:24):
with a backwards hat and watching, I'm like, what was
the point of this? Why are you? Why? Why are
you there? You're not playing? The Alliance of American Football
starts in February. You could easily, I mean easily be

(55:45):
the guy for the whole league. Not only would you
be a starter, you'd be the only thing anybody's talking about.
And what this guy needs right now is time playing
with cameras rolling so that NFL teams can see him.
You now have neither, no cameras and no playing time.
He made a mistake. He picked the wrong other league.

(56:07):
Right right now, I think you're I think you're a
hundred percent dead on correct with this. And you remember
there was the Affluenza team. This actually may have happened
around the same time that the Johnny Manziel Draft project
was was happening. These things may have happened in concert,
but I remember it was a drunk driving incident or

(56:29):
something like this where life was lost and the team
was protected by his parents. Well to do people, and
the way the whole situation panned out, and some of
the quotes that were coming out of this were they
were vomit worthy. And I've always had the same reaction
to just about everything that's come out of the Manzell camp,

(56:53):
either prior to the draft, during the draft, during his
short stint in the NFL Post. I mean, even even
with some of the recovery stuff. Look, I mean, I'm
I'm as willing as anybody to offer a second chance,
but it is very difficult to root for somebody who
you look at and you just don't see a single

(57:14):
shred of genuine interest in And I can't not yet
there hasn't been proof of this yet, genuine interest in
in the things that really matter to me, you know.
And and I think, I think, for some for some
whatever reason, this guy is now in Canada and he's
backing up a more talented quarterback, because that's what this is.

(57:38):
Johnny Manzel was a phenomenal college quarterback. He was able
to go against guys, go against teams that had some
really really talented players in certain positions and make a
lot of lesser talented players look really bad. And a
skeew the field well enough with his feet and creativity

(57:58):
to avoid making big mistakes and often make big plays.
But when the competition level rose, he was treading water
at best. And so I'm not condemning him for his
lack of talent. There have been plenty of players throughout
the years who have made it to the NFL, and
we we saw clearly they were overmatched. My problem is

(58:21):
the way he discusses his future, the way he discusses
his past, the way he defends his actions. Like, to me,
the reason why this worked out the way it did,
with him choosing the CFL over the potentiality of being
in the Alliance of American Football, it just falls in
lockstep with everything we've known about Johnny Manziel. He's a

(58:44):
bad mistake waiting to happen on a near consistent basis,
And so none of this is shocking to me. None
of its shocking, and actually, um, you know, it's it's
almost predictable. I I saw something he did in the
preseason in the CFLUH. Do you remember when some guys
on the field we're drawing with him, which is like,

(59:06):
I mean, of course, like that's not only is that football,
but you're Johnny Manziel, tell you have to know that
any time you put cleats on in a helmet, people
are gonna be in your face and they're gonna jaw
at you. And what did Manziel do. He came to
the press conference and he talked about it, and he said, quote,

(59:28):
I'm not here to be pushed over. You can come
at me because my name's in the papers, my name's
on TV. You can come at me. I'm not backing down.
I'm here for a reason. I'm here to play ball.
I'm not gonna be treated like bleep. Just by virtue
of the fact that you went to a press conference
and said that proves that you still don't get it.

(59:51):
You still don't get it trash talking sports when you're
Johnny Manziel is omnipresent. It's the sun. It's gonna be
there every day. There'll be days where it's a little
less bright than others, but it's there every single day,
and you need to just brush it off. You can
participate if you want, But the fact that you're still

(01:00:12):
like motivated to take it to the media, that shows
that it's under your skin, that it shows that that
that they're winning. It shows that you're an easy target
and people are only gonna do it more. When I
saw that, I'm like, oh, he he might be sober,
but he's still not mentally ready. And this is in
the CFL Oh no, no, no, no, like this is

(01:00:35):
in Canada. I I don't think there's like And I
used I used the affluenza comparison because what's what's riddled
throughout that that story about that team and the drunk driving,
and then also in this story, alongside lesser consequences, no
damage done except to himself than those who are very
closely are related to him potentially, But but let's be honest,

(01:00:58):
it's entitlement. This guy has always looked at the world
and expected more than it has offered him. And and
then when people questioned any of that, his response has
always been, oh, well you just can't recognize the talent.
Well well okay, no, no, no, there have been evaluations done,

(01:01:19):
there's been careful and close monitoring of this situation. This
is delusion, this isn't reality. So he's going to be
a Tiger Cat for the next season or two, or
however long it takes for them to want to give up.
The ghost on the Man's l train as well, when
that happens, maybe he will limp into the lines of
American football. But I promise you there's one thing I

(01:01:40):
know about this story as I've seen it play out,
is there's gonna be no comeback. This is just a
slow slip into obscurity and it's unfortunate, but it's the
reality that we're going to, unfortunately have to see undo itself.
Alex Barbaz In about three minutes, Chris and Louisville wants
to weigh in on this. Chris, thank you for calling.

(01:02:02):
What's up? You're on Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, no, man,
I hear what you guys are saying about Johnny and everything,
and I agree with what you guys are saying to
a certain extent. I don't think it's an awful, awful
decision for him to sit back and see if football
is really something that he wants to be a part
of and be a backup in Canada. Um. You know,
we always tell guys, I'm a high school coach, and

(01:02:22):
we always tell guys that are trying to go to
small schools, you really have to love it if you're
gonna go to a small school, because you're probably not
gonna get a full scholarship. You're probably gonna be in
a small town and you're probably gonna have to work
for three years to get a starting spot. And you
know what, Uh, maybe sitting on the bench in Canada
and kind of a goofy football situation waiting for his

(01:02:45):
spot is what he needs to kind of make his
life better. But that's all I have to say. Guys.
You guys do a great job. Thanks Chris, appreciate it.
Thanks so much. I listen. I I just boil it
down to a simpler thing. I mean, he's got to play.
He has to play. Nothing matters if he doesn't play.
The rest of it is we're just talking. And also,
like you know, and I believe fully in this, when

(01:03:06):
you're a public figure, I mean, doing what we do,
even there are colors who get on the line just
to tell us how big of idiots we are. I mean,
we are availing ourselves to criticism doing what we do.
What I was doing in my former profession as a
professional athlete, there were times where I was at Kansas
City or I was in Oakland and fans would literally
be pouring beer on themselves to get close enough the

(01:03:28):
railing to shout profanities at me to take my family
name and turn it into a curse word. Like it's
just it's just like that idea. Yeah, it's just exactly that.
Trust me, I'll smile through it because that's what I'm
here for. Look, you're a performer. You gotta be able
to handle criticism, and he appears to be allergic to it.

(01:03:51):
All right, Alex Marvezan, Just a second, David Gascon right now,
as we are coming down the stretch at the US Open.
Now wait a minute, you meant and last time. The
producer Rob really wants Patrick. What's going on here? What's happening?
He thinks this is a perfect storm for this weekend
for for Red to win it because he's one of

(01:04:13):
the most unlikable guy. Robert, you just grab the damn Mike.
I don't want to speak free Robert. Do we all
hate Patrick Reed? I don't. I don't mind Patrick. I
think I like him Patrick. But you like Heels though, Rich,
so that doesn't count. Yeah, it is true. I do
like me. It's some Randy Orton in the w W
E and I like some Odell occasionally when he opens

(01:04:34):
his mouth. Yeah, nothing makes me more satisfied. Than to
see the golf purist freaking out yesterday with that philm micholson.
So if you have the top you know, five big
names don't even make the weekend, you have Phil Mickelson
playing put put out there on number thirteen, and then
you have the most unliked player when the whole tournament.
That would be so great. The only thing missing would

(01:04:55):
be Sergio Garcia spitting it into a cup. That'd be great. Right, yeah, honestly,
this well, you know what, this is what I hope
if it does have to come down to, like a
fleet would Read playoff. If if Read throws on the
green jacket for those extras, that would be great. That
would be great. And Phil Mickelson could come out and
swing that log that goes back and forth over the

(01:05:17):
top of the and and whoever gets it in first wins.
I'm fine with that man. That would because some good stuff.
Right now, Fleetwood has finished, so he's gonna need some help.
But brooks Kepka as your leader. He's at plus one.
He's through nine. Fleetwood, though he was minus seven for
the day and finishes at plus two. Dustin Johnson also
a plus two, and Patrick Read is at plus three.

(01:05:39):
Switching on over to all the people World Cup action
for the day. It's in the books, but Brazil had
a play to a draw with Switzerland one one. Switzerland
tied it in the second half, Sergia Serbia blank, Costa
Rica one nothing, and in Mexico with a shocking upset. Guys,
there are plus six hundred to win today and they
beat the defending champs from Germany one nil. Was the final.
It's the first time in eight matches that Germany has

(01:06:01):
lost in World Cup action, but they fall again today.
So to the biggest favorites, Brazil and also Germany, the
odds on favorites to win. The whole thing played to
a draw and loss, so that's a little bit of
a shocker today. In Major League Baseball, Yankees losing at home.
The raise three one rockies for Rangers one Nick Hunley
with a two run shot for San Francisco in the
top of the first inning in l A they lead

(01:06:22):
to nothing. That has the score. Dodgers have two one
in one out there on the bottom of one. Angels
and ATHLETs just underway from Oakland, there's no score. Astros
locked up four peace with the Kansas City Royals in case, gentlemen,
all right, Dave good staff cap he's got a two
shot lead, just rolled in a birdie. He's added Dustin
Johnson and Tommy fleetwood By to Patrick read Is three

(01:06:43):
back and reads rails are coming off as he just
is going rough to rough on on. I think he's
on the twelfth hole. But right now, let's welcome in
Alex Marvez sirius x M NFL Radio at Alex Marvez.
We love our visits, Alex. We were just having a
man's al Converse station. Now that this is real, and
and his team had a real game, and he just

(01:07:04):
sat there and watched it, and Massoli played really well.
I'm thinking he picked the wrong league. He should have
done the Alliance of American Football or something. What's the
point of being up there if he's not gonna play well.
He's the one who sort of locked himself into a
backup spot. As you know, he had a chance to
sign in January when they could have maybe you know,
structured the team around him, and he decided, no, I'm

(01:07:25):
gonna wait and I'm gonna hope that at a US
team offers a contract. He works out in front of
all these scouts because college coaches do his agent a
solid or do him a solid, and they have him
throw at these pro days and still no NFL teams bite.
So he arrives late. And I think too, there's a
feeling of okay, look first, what it'll tell you to
where is he at right now? And learning the Canadian game? Okay?

(01:07:47):
And it is a different type of game, learning this offense.
And maybe just maybe too, they want to make him
earn this thing, and you know, earn the respect of
his teammates, not that Johnny Manzos is going to come in,
walk in and dominate. That that Johnny Manziel from college.
We haven't seen that in how many years now? Guys?
I mean, you know, you look back at what Zack
Martin did and when he resigned his contract extension or

(01:08:07):
assigned the contract extension this week, you think, wow, you
know what I mean, This guy was was entering the
final year of his rookie contract. This is what Johnny
Manzel should be doing right now, and instead we haven't
seen good football in this guy forever. The one positive
thing for Johnny is actually a very morbid thing that
I'm about to say, but is that the injury rate
among quarterbacks in the CFL is so darn't high. That
will probably be out there sooner than later. But you know, look,

(01:08:30):
maybe he's simply not ready to play. They want to play,
and look June Jones brought him up there, but again
not ready maybe for the Hamilton's tie Cats, you know,
and also Alex, I mean the reality in the NFL
right now, how well protected quarterbacks at the position are
are and the fact that they are now playing a
lot of them deep into their thirties, Tom Brady into
his forties, and that's becoming vogue really for the position.

(01:08:53):
You have a lot more talent at that position group
than you've ever had in the NFL. So the realities
of ever seeing Manzel back in the NFL, how slim
are we putting the odds? Well, it's all on man'zell
because he's it's two years so we're looking at here.
Two seasons in the CFL is what he has to play.
That's the mandatory CFL contract. They didn't do anything different

(01:09:13):
for him. Now, you know, if he's cut from a team,
that's one thing. But in this case, you know, the
Hamilton Tiecats have his professional rights. So you know, what
are we looking at at the landscape in is there
going to be a team that says man man'sl was
just you know, once he got on the field, the
guy tore it up and you have bidding like you
had with Warren Moon, you know that type of thing.
And he comes back and only twenty seven years old,

(01:09:34):
and he can relaunch his NFL career and roll from
there or at least get himself in the building, you know,
And how does he evolve as a quarterback as well?
You know, I go back to what he did in Cleveland.
It was awful. You know. It was someone who just
he didn't he wasn't throwing his study at his study habits.
I mean, he wasn't a big guy to begin with,
but you know, exposing himself to some hits. Remember he
got knocked out. That's how his final season ended in Cleveland.

(01:09:57):
He had a concussion, you know, and he had exposed
himself to big It's I mean, so that's what it's
just a little bit unclear. We we just want to
see the magic back from Johnny Manzel. That's what you
want to see. You want to see some of those
plays that made him Johnny football in college and entice
the Browns to spend a number one pick on him,
but he's got two years to get it together when
it comes to NFL terms, Alex, I look at NFL
O T A s the same way as baseball spring training,

(01:10:19):
where I'm just gonna take anything and everything with a
grain of salt. Show Hey, Otani couldn't throw a strike
in spring training, and then the season started and he
was really, really good. So do you put anything into
anything that we hear out of O T A s.
And the reason I'm asking is Jimmy Garoppolo apparently doesn't
know how to throw football anymore. If you listen to

(01:10:40):
the reports out of forty Niners O T s last week, Yeah,
he's done. That's the forty Niners. Drop him back, drop
him back in the pack, right, I mean that sort
of thing, And you know, I mean there's some things
that you pay attention to. Look. Look, I'll remember when
I was covering the Miami Dolphins and Josh Hypel, remember him,
the Oklahoma quarterback was drafted in around six and this guy,
he just he couldn't throw a straight ask the ball

(01:11:01):
is bouncing everywhere, and You're like, oh my goodness, this
this is this isn't this isn't gonna work out well,
and it didn't for the Miami Dolphins. Um, so you
could tell things like that. You know. Really the O
T A. S is just sort of an indoctrination, you know,
program combined with working out is what it is. It's
almost like you're going to your anytime fitness except we
have mandatory hours, right, I mean, that's what That's what

(01:11:21):
I pay attention to a little bit on it, you know,
and you just you keep your figures across that. Nobody's
going to get hurt, you know, that's the other thing
about it. But you know what it's where it's really
valuable is for the first year coaches because they start
putting in their program and you begin to learn, okay,
well here's how we're gonna do this. This is how
this coach wants to do This is how this assistant
coach wants that. And you can lay out your agenda,
But as far as grading player performances, what happens is

(01:11:45):
and and rich you can attest to this. Brother, guys
that are younger players trying to make an impact, They're
moving at a speed. Veterans are conserving their energy and
then when training camp begins. Oh my goodness, totally different world,
and a lot of guys fall back to the pack
and the vet or in surge, and that's why they
keep their jobs. Absolutely. Yeah, football has played in pads
and there's no other way to really mimic that activity.

(01:12:06):
And the veterans no better than anybody and somewhat protected.
Alex Marvez joining us on Fox Sports Radio. Here. You know, Alex,
I've heard of everybody's opinion. I don't know if I've
heard yours yet on this national anthem ruling. Alongside O
t A is the biggest news we've seen is the
fact that the owners after the meeting broke up and
then kind of unexpectedly made a rule about the anthem

(01:12:27):
and how you can appropriately protest should you want to.
How big of a blunder was this for the NFL. Well,
they did find uniformity because everyone hates this rule, So
you could say this, I mean they're bad in a
thousand because they came up with a way that they've
gotten managed somehow to get everyone to hate this. I've
yet to hear anyone say the way that this is
being done is a good idea. And I think what

(01:12:49):
you ended up having was a loggerhead between the NFL
owners who want the right to be able to decide
on their own whether or not they're going to find
players or anthem protocol violations in the NFL. That's in
a little bit more open ended and also well aware
of the fact that they may not even legally be
allowed to do this. And you know, we've heard about
the NFL Players Association getting ready to file a grievance
about this, but we don't even have a rule on

(01:13:12):
the books yet about this. Have you seen anything that
says what the anthem protocol actually is? If we all
stand and lock arms together and sway on the sidelines,
are we violating national anthem Protocol? No one has And
there's nothing on the books, it's not in the Game
day Manual yet as as to what is going on
in the national anthem. So until there's actually a rule

(01:13:32):
that's put in, I you know, I don't even know
really what to say about it, because it's it's not
how defined is just gonna be as far as the
anthem goes. That's something that is a real question for me.
You know, what is it going to be exactly? And
then are you you know what's going to happen to
repeat offenders. I mean, there's there's things that will happen
about this, and of course the President is going to
continue to poke the bear. I get all that. I
just think that the league, they're really almost back at

(01:13:54):
at you know, the ground level when it comes to this.
And it's amazing too, because it was down to about
eight players that we're doing anything during the anthem. And
if they players feel under attack and they feel like
the President is mocking them or wanted to take a
shot at them, then maybe some others players will respond
in a different sort of way and maybe you'll see
something flare up again. I mean it's look to me,

(01:14:14):
the whole thing should have been addressed by just keeping
everyone in the locker room. That's how it was before
two thousand nine. You can play the national anthem and
if the President wants to say something about it and
continue to poke at a fine. But what you do
then is you just prevent the entire thing from happening,
as far as more players taking a knee or et cetera.
Because listen, the first time that there's another type of
big conflict, whether it's a it's a police action. Maybe

(01:14:35):
that that's, you know, it becomes very controversial or who
knows what. But if if it becomes a rallying cry
for players to again protest, you know, socially, the social
activism part of this whole thing, it's gonna come right
back up. It's it's you know, it is an absolute
mess that the NFL has dug themselves into. What they
really need is an anthems are. And I'm not being
sarcastic here. They need a gamblings are. They need an

(01:14:56):
anthems are. But with with with Jerry Jerry Jones. Right now,
you notice all these high priced to you know, guys
in the NFL front office who are leaving. It's not
an accident. Jerry Jones is cleaning some houses. It's like
ESPN reported, he's wondering why, not only why was the
commissioner being paid so much, but why did he have
such a bloated staff that isn't maybe great at their
jobs is how he felt. And that's why you see
these departures. Patriotic gambler who maybe could do both jobs.

(01:15:19):
That's what we're looking for, Alex, Alex, great stuff man.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Thank you, thank you, gentlemen.
Be good preca there he goes, Alex Marvez, serious x
M NFL Radio. Over this last week, one former NFL
player got into all kinds of hot water. The letters
CTE started to come up, and a lot of NFL players,

(01:15:41):
current informer didn't like that one bit. That's next, Mark
and Rich, Fox Sports Radio. All right, a second ago,
Dustin Johnson was about to tie for the lead of
the US Open, and then the dang thing happened. The
dang thing happened. You know, he missed a short put

(01:16:02):
and Kepta made the long put, and all of a
sudden because still to a head. If that was Matt's play,
that was one of those bad beats. So it's Kepta
plus one, Fleetwood plus two and he's done. Johnson is
plus three and I think Read is plus four and
he's looking all kinds of wobbly right now. Yeah, he

(01:16:24):
blew up a hole ago. He really, he was going
rough to rough, criss crossing the course. That's interesting because
a lot of times people down the stretch of these tournaments,
especially majors, go ah. You know here the announcers of
time ah as you can see the nerves they're getting
to Patrick read you know it's and I don't buy it. Really, Yeah,

(01:16:45):
people always think it's nerves and like O, golf just sucks,
like it's really hard, especially there little flagelence in the backswing.
All of a sudden things started going off the rails.
You never know, Um, what does it mean when Gica
says just fifteen minutes and save you more on car insurance?
Probably should have gone to guy could dot com fifteen
minutes ago. So it appears, it appears according to reports.

(01:17:09):
According to accusations, um Kellan Winslow Jr. Is accused of
being just an awful person, so accused. Um, what a
weird couple of weeks for him. He got arrested walking
around a mobile home park in North County of San Diego.
And after we started to hear the police reports, I

(01:17:30):
think rightfully, so people started to cry, hey, this was
racist because he actually wasn't doing anything wrong. Was he
being profiled? And somebody looked out a window and saw
a large black man just walking around. They decided, well,
we better call the police. There's a man out there.
That's what that looked like. But then the outrage got

(01:17:53):
softened pretty quick when he got arrested again at his home,
and the accusations are unspeakable, sex crimes, violent ones, repetitive.
They're only accusations right now. But as people try to
process this story, Um, the idea of CT has come up,
and you didn't take very kindly to that. Well, yeah,

(01:18:14):
I have no idea what defense he's going to choose,
But there has been this thought process that, given the
length of his career first rounder with the Browns, uh
and uh a longtime NFL veteran, that potentially the reasons
for his inability to have better judgment is because he

(01:18:37):
has chronic traumatic en cephalopathy and this is UH symptomatic
and it's something that is only gonna worsen. Here's my issue. Okay,
So Aaron Hernandez his family claimed the same thing, and
they then sued the patriots in the league, and the
lawyers are coming after the state, and this could end

(01:18:59):
up going the same way to mounting some sort of
defense that will protect him from doing hard time should
he be guilty of these atrocities that he's facing charges of, uh,
and maybe he'll go into some sort of therapeutic place
as opposed to prison. Um. Okay, look, yes, if you

(01:19:19):
played in the NFL, you potentially availed the ability, availed
opportunity to have this this really life changing disease that
when they've cross sections brains of cadavers they found in
in players who who were complaining of of symptoms of forgetfulness,

(01:19:40):
of poor judgment and pulsivity, etcetera, etcetera. Okay, but this
was a small sample size so far, and we understand
that if you're feeling some of these things. Yeah, I
mean obviously yes, you you you probably do have this disease,
and you should have gotten checked out and maybe been
a part of a group study in your life. But

(01:20:01):
post posthumously having it being discovered only helps create a
larger profile. I need to see more evidence that there
is a direct link first of all to the playing career, uh,
even though we know the dangers of the NFL. But
even furthermore, like I don't like it to be used
as an excuse before that anything better than correlational data exists,

(01:20:24):
Like this is the same problem military have when they
come home from war. You know a couple of issues
where post traumatical traumatic stress disorder creates an issue in
somebody's life where they do something out of character or
they commit a crime of some sort and that's the headline.

(01:20:46):
And so now many well adjusted military members have trouble
getting jobs or have trouble in society because people make
assumptions based off the group you come from. So I
fear that if this becomes the headline every time a
former player commits an atrocious crime that he's using CTS
his defense. I mean, it will start labeling former football

(01:21:10):
players in a very different light than they are now.
I'll just say this real quick. I don't know Kellen
Winslow jr. Um, but the first time most of us
met him, he was screaming about being a bleeping soldier
back at the University of Miami because he injured some
volunteer player and was standing over him celebrating and he
was defending all of that. And I don't know, could

(01:21:33):
he have CT all the way back then, because he
was just starting his football career. Just feels to me
like thinking about that, now, we should have known. We
should have known then the way this story was going
to end up. Rich is in for Jim Jackson today
on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up next Shock a proclamation, Well,

(01:21:55):
Happy Father's Day to all and especially to our buddy
Jim Jackson is not here today but because uh, he
had child number two at about four in the morning today.
So congratulations to Jim Jackson born on Father's Day. My gosh,
how awesome is that? And so uh we put out
the A P B. And we found a different father

(01:22:16):
to come in here. His name is rich orn Berger.
And you're gonna be doing what Jim's doing right now
in like three or four weeks, that's right. Yeah, I'm
gonna have number two. Uh, we got a boy on
the way. We have one at home right now. And
I actually was in the hospital for Father's Day three
years ago when he was when he was born. And
that was the coolest because actually, the way the calendar

(01:22:39):
worked out, we celebrated Father's Day twice before he was
the age of one. So I got double the gifts,
which was a gift in of itself because the first
time around, he was the gift. So there was no cards,
there was no tie, like you know, like here's a baby. Yeah,
he was just a wet infant at that moment. And
so yeah, you know, very very needy person of course. Well,

(01:23:03):
just so anybody knows if there are any shows I
missed this summer. It's not because I'm at the hospital
having a baby. I am so done and so is
my wife. Cool. Cool, We're lying in the Guico Fox
Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen cent
or more on car insurance. Gut dot com for a
free rate quote Shock said something that I thought was

(01:23:23):
really cool. Get to that in just a second. Well,
how about a good time for a little check in.
We're about five days in. I love the World Cup.
I've always loved this event. I think it's gotten better
and better over the years for those of us who
didn't grow up with soccer as our first love. Um,
But admittedly I was unsure how it would feel different,

(01:23:46):
how much more or less would I be into it?
With United States not being in the tournament. How has
it affected your your viewing pleasure of the event? Honestly,
it's about the same, really, which is odd because I
totally thought the checkout factor would be high for me.
Because not, And it's not even a patriotic thing. I
often I understand to an extent why the Olympics or

(01:24:11):
the World Cup uh engenders some patriotism because it's your
country's representatives there those athletes that belong to the States,
but I I don't know. More and more I feel
like those borders are blurred. You know, oftentimes you have
foreigners able to play in their home country. Uh sport

(01:24:34):
athlete who's more famous actually in in the United States
might go and play for for his country Greece or
you know, whatever it may be. Let's look at the
US Open right now. If Rory McElroy was in the lead,
wouldn't everybody be rooting for him? Like it's his face
on the the Xbox game. Sure, yeah, I mean that American.

(01:24:54):
It's kind of my point. Yeah, Like, I'm with you.
I've always looked at that, like Tommy Fleetwood is in
the clubhouse. Plus two, he's not American. No, he's not
a Swiss. Swiss, I don't, I don't. I don't even
know where the hell he's from. I know he's not American. Actually,
it's good that he was in the clubhouse. You might
have caught that Switzerland World Cup match this morning. Like,
I'm not rooting against him, so I will say this,

(01:25:17):
though I do I am missing a little bit, just
a little bit. I still love watching the matches. They've
been really good but it's fun when you're watching the
World Cup. It takes so you know, it's a long journey.
I like to watch all the matches, but in the
back of your mind you have your favorite, like, that's
who I'm really pulling for. And what's kind of funny is,

(01:25:39):
obviously that would be the United States of America, and
then my backup plan if the United States doesn't make it. Well,
my wife's family is Italian, so I'm like, that's okay,
I'll root for Italy. So now I'm down to, I
don't know, just pull some country names out of a hat. Well,

(01:26:01):
we'll figure out who we're rooting for. So I'm missing
a little something there, but I'm still into it. And
it's funny. Twenty three and me the genetic company that
sort of is able to tell you where your ancestry
is from per your jeans, Like they actually launched this idea,
and I thought it was a creative one to give
you a rooting interest because the United States didn't make it,

(01:26:24):
we'll just find out where your ancestors are, fun and
and go ahead and root for them. So which ancestors
am I supposed to root for? So? Uh, let's go
to my ancestry. I've got some family lines in England, Okay,
so yeah England. I've got some family lines in Germany.
Oh yeah, yeah, I got some family lines in the
homeland of Russia. Oh they but they stink. So you know,

(01:26:49):
they're like ranks, like but hosting the event, you for
those who for the end, and then they got that
other stuff that's going on, you know, politically. So I'm
just like, ah, and I just don't want to go
there right now. So, um, I don't know, like how
am I supposed to decide which family bloodline is the

(01:27:09):
most you know, you're an American mutt, there's nothing. Yeah,
like it's truly a melting pot. So yeah, I I'll
tell you this. From my standpoint, I do agree that
America would be my favorite watching. I mean, it's it's
impossible for it not to be. However, I found myself
actually more interested in some of the other storylines last

(01:27:30):
World Cup. You know, all of a sudden you get
to learn all at once about some of the trials
and tribulations of these other countries of forming their teams,
or some of the things they're up against with the
greatness that exists elsewhere, especially when you check into sport
as rarely as I do soccer, it's actually refreshing. I mean,
I've tried to do this with other sports, uh, with

(01:27:53):
with not as much success. My wife played volleyball in college.
Occasionally will watch the beach games they a VP, and
it's just it's not as gripping because there's not as
much interest. But when you turn on the World Cup
and you see eighty thousand people show up for group
play and sobbing in the stands because an upset like

(01:28:13):
Mexico over Journey in a Germany in a one nil match,
You're just like, okay, I get it, Like there's passion here,
there's excitement here. It's it's the ambiance that creates urgency
for me, because if I'm turning on anything else where,
it's sparsely attended, and you know, it sounds like the
commentators are pretty relaxed and like, hey, yeah, so you

(01:28:37):
know last time these guys took the beach with the volleyball,
it went all right, Okay, yeah, I could get into
that maybe for an afternoon, but it's not gonna hold
my interest through a tournament the way the World Cup does.
Because every goal it's like Cana kick, like you know,
people are going mad. Yes, that's why I don't like
Moto Cross. They're always just like, yeah, man, so like

(01:28:59):
you turned a little hard and turned forward to thrash
on the final turn. Sweet, but I'm gonna get a beer.
We'll try and do next week. He's just like, all right,
there's nothing urgent there at all. But here's one of
the reasons I bring it up. I don't know who
I'm rooting for, and I don't know who you're rooting for,
but I'm sure this I'm not going to tell you
who you should be rooting for. This was a weird
story that came out yesterday. Um, he's the greatest player

(01:29:21):
in the history of the United States of America, Landon
Donovan and he sent out a tweet yesterday quote USA fans,
our team might not be in Russia, but our neighbors
to the south are so join me and they're proud sponsor.
Well's far gone to cheer on our other team, Mexico. Like, okay,

(01:29:49):
hold on a second, I mean this is yeah, this
is gagworthy on a number of levels. If Landon Donovan,
who wants Pete on the floor of of the of
the pitch against Mexico, like Mexico, whether you like, like
remove Mexico from this, the country versus the United States,

(01:30:10):
the country just in soccer terms, this is a rivalry.
It's a rivalry. And so if you want to enjoy
the rivals all of a sudden because your team is out,
that's weird enough. When you jam a sponsor mentioned into
the middle of it. And Landon is a pitchman for
Wells Farest who's got their own pr craft going on

(01:30:34):
for the last year, it's like it. It read as
the most awkward, hard landing tweet of the World Cup
by far so far. And this and this was not
lost on many of his former national team teammate check
the bizarre. So then to make it even worse, like

(01:30:58):
Carlos Book and I were responded and went, really, I
mean that's it. He's just like really, dude. So then
Donovan collapsed back at him this, well, yeah, I've always
loved Mexico. Plus no international charges on your A t
M and freeze statements with every with every new checking account.

(01:31:20):
That's right, right, didn't you know Well's far ago established
nineteen fifty six, re established. Did you know that landing
fires back at Bocanegra quote. You grew up in SoCal
and oh much of your soccer skill to playing with Mexicans.

(01:31:41):
Your father is of Mexican descent. Look around our country.
Are you happy with how we are treating Mexicans? Open
your mind, stand for something and remember where you came from.
Oh boy, talk, I mean listen. Am I happy with
what's going on in the border. No, we don't need

(01:32:02):
to get into that. I understand what he's saying, But
first of all, don't bring that to soccer, because it's
not like winning the World Cup from Mexico is gonna
make it okay for the kids that are in freaking
tent camps right now. A but be the guy wrote
one word on Twitter. He wrote the word really, and

(01:32:22):
all of a sudden, you're the expert on what should
drive him morally? Like this was so out of it's
it is. It was the most bizarre story of the week. Yeah,
look these things, I mean Twitter, social media in general, Facebook, Instagram,
snap face, you know, my chat, whatever you use, whatever

(01:32:44):
you're into, whatever your proclivities steer you towards, it is
always going to be something like I mean, just literally
yesterday Paul Laduca and Keith Law went knuckles up over
Laduca attacking a beat writer for the Mets. I mean,
so here we are talking about Landon Donovan and it's

(01:33:05):
just it's just that's the problem. Promote something, tweet something,
It's gonna resonate differently with everybody. But just be sure
if you're a broadcaster or if you're broadcasting something, especially
if it's a sponsor. I mean it expect expects some
of this because I mean candidly, is he really was

(01:33:27):
he really going to be a fan of Team Mexico
if if it wasn't, if it wasn't a packaged with
a sweet sponsorship deal, probably not. And what he's been
tweeting about it, probably not. So let's not get overly
sensitive when people start uh sending their criticisms your way.

(01:33:47):
I just want to remind everybody go Mexico, Wells Fargo
dot com, Wells Fargo dot com. Alright, Mark and Rich
Rich is in for Jim Jackson today on Fox Sports Radio.
Shack weight in on the legacy of the on in
a way I haven't heard before. We'll have that for
you next. Alright, got some great news quick way you
can save somebody switch the guy to Geica dot Com.

(01:34:08):
Fifteen minutes more on car insurance. Rich Winburger in for
Jim Jackson today, So it's Mark and rich on Fox
Sports Radio. Um, this normally is the only day of
the week where we have a break from one another,
So not this week. No, it'll be ten straight by
next Saturday. So happy Father's Day to you, and we'll

(01:34:32):
do it again tomorrow. So Brooks keepca right now, is
hitting the ball out of the rough. He's got to
just kind of advance it down the fairway on a
par four. Dustin Johnson is in the fairway with his
approach shot coming. This is an opportunity for him to
make up some ground. Kepka plus one, Fleetwood plus two.
In the clubhouse, Johnson is plus three, and then there's

(01:34:54):
a longer list of players at plus four. Still five
holes to play, lots to do their So we'll get
to that. I wonder what to think of this. So
Shock said something We've all talked out Lebron James legacy
about five thousand different ways, but I haven't heard a
lot of people, at least in the n b A
say it like this. You know what Lebron's legacy set.

(01:35:18):
He doesn't need to chase championships anymore. He doesn't need
any more championships. It's great if he gets them. He
doesn't need him. He's got three, been in the finals
four hundred times. What the hell like we get it?
And I thought about what he was saying, and I'm like, Okay,
how how different would we feel about Lebron if he

(01:35:40):
gets one or two more? How differently would we feel
if he gets no more? There are a lot of
people who already believe that he absolutely deserves to be
mentioned right next to Michael Jordan's. Um, I'm exhausted by
the debate. I don't think there's ever any end to it.

(01:36:01):
I prefer a lot about Lebron James game over Michael Jordan's.
That's me. I think you're in that same boat. I
think we're in the minority. But it doesn't matter. The
point is Shack is saying, if, if, if the goal
is to be mentioned among a very few grades, he's

(01:36:22):
already there. Of course, this is already a complete story.
It's over. So this is where I struggle with sports,
because there are so many people who are vying for
the gold jacket in the NFL for the Hall of Fame,
the recognition. That's an interesting it's an interesting quote out
of Shock though, because often when you hear his candor

(01:36:46):
him and Barkley, the one thing he waves over his head,
over Barkley's head is how heavy his hand is with
all these rings on it, like you know, I mean
so so really it falls on deaf ears because he
plays both sides against the middle on this. To Bekic,
his point is is that Lebron already has that Shock
has four. Here's what Jack said. My problem, he's actually

(01:37:09):
expressing a regret. My problem towards the end of my
career was I was trying to shut everybody up, and
I was greedy. After I got to three, everyone was
saying I couldn't get another, So I got four. After
I got the fourth, they're saying I couldn't get another one.
So I was trying to make quick stops to get it. Phoenix, Cleveland, Boston.
I think he's regretting that portion of his career. I

(01:37:30):
don't think Lebron's at that point's gonna start bouncing around
from spot to spot. But I think what he's saying is,
like you you should relax, find the spot where you
want to be, wherever that is, and just do you
Because I think, and he's right here, You're not gonna
change anyone's mind. You've either already convinced him or you're

(01:37:53):
never gonna convince him. I'll give you this though, from
the standpoint of Lebron James is I think from the
standpoint of physical fitness, from the standpoint of readiness to
attack what's what's clearly the back half and into the
back half of his NBA career. Uh, you need to
find ways to motivate yourself. He's now not chasing anybody

(01:38:16):
in the NBA current day. He's chasing his legacy. He's
potentially prolonging his career so he could maybe one day
share a court with his son, is eldest son, who's
thirteen today or at thirteen this year. You know, I
I look at I look at goal setting when you're
Tom Brady or Lebron James, and you say, well, what
what the hell is there left to compete for? You've

(01:38:37):
done it all, You've earned it all. You have more
money than you'll ever use in one lifetime, in your
children's lifetime. Was what more? You'll never meet the people
who are going to be spending your wealth one day,
I mean truly, So what is left to compete the
drive within? You have to form some sort of enemies,
some sort of some sort of goal to ascertain that's

(01:38:58):
still out of reach. And maybe his hunt for you know,
another ring, another championship, another team to raise out of
the depths of the NBA and bring to prominence. Maybe
maybe that's the way he keeps it fresh, because like
like any great rock band we've ever known, you have
to recreate yourself. Well, okay, but let's let's say this.

(01:39:20):
Let's pretend I think this is pretty pretty outlandish thought,
but let's pretend Lebron does go somewhere. Let's say he
gets Kauai and Paul George and they win three in
a row. Lebron gets to six. I know, all you
Jordans guys out there, we're gonna say, yeah, but Jordan

(01:39:42):
didn't have any losses in the finals. Well, some people,
some people still say that about Montana and Brady like that.
That refrain is never gonna change because Montana was perfect
through four Super Bowls and Brady he won five. But
he had to do it in a trip it's pretty few, though.
I I think it's less now. It's less now, but
that course is still loud enough that when the debate

(01:40:05):
of greatest of all time in football comes up, that's
still tossed out. There is a viable argument, and some
people buy it. If Lebron equal with Michael Jordan's and
rings and had all of the finals near misses two,
it's kind of like Jack Nicholas, right, Jack Nicholas has
the most majors in golf at eighteen, doesn't he also

(01:40:25):
have like seventeen second place finishes. Nobody's like, oh, what
an idiot? He lost all those opportunity. They're like, no,
that means a guy who's in the top two like
thirty five times. That's amazing. So if Lebron were to
get to six, that's what I would say. I'd be like,
this isn't even close anymore. But for some reason, there's

(01:40:46):
such majesty around the Michael Jordan's six and oh thing.
I know there are a lot of people that would say, no,
you're still not Michael. Well, here's my argument, because while
Michael went perfect through his six finals appearance, is where
where did he get bounced? Those other years? Well, well
that that almost feels like the last years in MJ's career,
Like we don't get to talk about the playoff bounces.

(01:41:09):
We only get to talk about the finals championships because
he needs two hands to carry all those rings, and
he was perfect through those attempts. I look at what
Lebron James has done over his career already already, and
I say it's better than Michael Jordan's. I mean that
that debates resolved in my mind, although I don't think
my opinion matters much quite frankly, don't think anybody's opinion

(01:41:31):
matters all that much on this topic. It's whatever he
he's personally motivated by. That's the only opinion that matters,
because that's how this this trend continues with Lebron James
being the top player in that sport is however he
motivates himself. I think hall of Fames are stupid across
all sports. I think the fact that like like Taryll

(01:41:54):
Owens being you know, snubbing the Hall of Fame by
doing his own thing, I think to myself, like, let's
let's just really let's distill this to what it exactly is.
It's a bunch of guys who got together at one point,
maybe an in a party situation. We're all hammered, and
when you know what we should do, We should just
select whoever we think's the best and tell people this

(01:42:17):
is where the best players will be remembered, and we'll
call the Hall of Fame, and forever everybody will try
to get in. Okay, deal. And then all of a sudden,
this little idea went from being in someone's mom's basement
to an actual museum somewhere, and you have people who
are who are petitioning, campaigning to get in. It's mind boggling.

(01:42:41):
It to me, it's it's the ultimate uh self sacrifice
to have to sit there and get on and genuflect
to the Publicans say to say to everybody like, wait, no, listen,
let me please my case. I should be considered among
the greatest of all time. And if I'm not giving
a golden jacket and a boy store, you know, my
name being a plaque somewhere, I'm not considered. No, that's ridiculous.

(01:43:06):
It's all really stupid. Lebron James is, if not the best,
one of the best players who we've ever seen. So
from that standpoint shocks correct, But whatever it takes for
him to motivate himself so I can continue to be
entertained by this player. I mean, yeah, if it's championships
or whatever it is, whatever he has to convince himself
of that he's not worthy yet, Well, you just keep

(01:43:28):
doing that, Lebron, because I'm really enjoying watching you dunk
on the entirety of the NBA right now. Doesn't it
feel like all the other contenders for Lebron just by
this Kauai thing, and it doesn't feel like everything just
all went away. I mean, if I don't know that
that's true, but it feels that way. It feels like
the Lakers are the only choice all of a sudden,

(01:43:52):
the only choice. Yeah, I mean I know people in
Philly who are like, yeah, that's not gonna happen. Yeah,
they've already given up. And we haven't heard a darn
think from Lebron, and we don't know if the Lakers,
I mean, it's far from a conclusion that they're gonna
get Kauai. So it's interesting though. Well, it's just things,
you know, it's order of operations. You can't get there

(01:44:14):
until you know what's happening with listening to Krown Butler
on the way in, and he was like, it is
so quiet in l A right now, other than Genie
Bus sending out a cryptic tweet. He's like, let me
tell you all, something's about to happen and it's going
to be big. All right, Um more on that, uh

(01:44:35):
coming up throughout the remaining half hour. Hank Haney, Tiger's
old coach, canna join us in just a second, but
let's get to our life coach. His name is David Gaston,
and that would be your better half. She's more like coach.
She's on the road this week, though she's in New York,
so you're her. So you playing this Father's Day Stillo today.

(01:44:58):
Hey man, I didn't just go to stay at my
dad's house so that I could say hi to my dad. Job. Yeah,
we'll play it all right. We'll stick with a golf
action today. US Open into the final round. Brooks Kepka
is your leader. He's at plus one through fourteen. Tommy
Fleetwood was finished, but he's at plus two, one strick
behind Patrick Reid three overpar and Dustin Johnson. Going into

(01:45:22):
round three, he was minus four and now into today
he's plus four, still a fighting chance, but he's through
thirteen as we speak. Meanwhile, people World Cup action today,
Serbian knocked off Costa Rica one nil. Mexico did Jeremy
the same one nothing. Mexico was a huge upset and
this one the underdog was plus six hundred to win
it and they did knock it off the defending Chaps,

(01:45:42):
and Switzerland tied it in the second half, drawing the
equalizer to Brazil. One one was the final score and
that affair. Meanwhile, in Major League Baseball, Rockies on top
of the Rangers in Arlington seven to six. Brandon Belt
with his twelve poem run the season, Nick Henley a
two run shot. San Francisco leads in l A four
to one. Astro's just beat the Royal seven of four,

(01:46:02):
and the Angels and Athletics they're locked up at two
a piece. Raise beat the Yankees earlier today in New
York three one was a Funnels All right, Dave, great
stuff today. Thanks as always. We continue on Fox Sports
Radio Live and the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's
easy to save cent or more on car insurance with Geico.

(01:46:22):
Go to Geico Comic seven Auto the only hard part
figuring out which way is easier. He is the former
swing coach for Tiger Woods and now host of the
Hank Haney Golf radio show on Sirius x MPGA Tour Radio.
Hank Haney now joins US Live. Hank, great to have
you know. I'm sitting here just now reading comments made

(01:46:43):
by Amy Mickelson today. I guess Phil didn't speak to
the press after his round today, and she has broken
the news that he called the director of the U
s g A yesterday after that whole experience and offered
to withdraw, and the U s g A said, no,
that's not gonna be cinsary. We can keep this at
a two stroke penalty. But a lot of the golf

(01:47:03):
world got really upset about this. What was your perspective
in reaction to what happened yesterday? Well, I mean it
was it was quite unique. Nobody ever seen anything like
it before. But I leave it to Fill to do
something like that, I think by the letter, by the
letter of the law. The U s A said that,
you know, this is the ruling. It's a two shot penalty.

(01:47:25):
If he would have stopped the ball or what they
called deflecting, it. Then it would have been a different story.
Then then he would have been d QTE. But because
he made a swing at it, even though effectively he
was he was stopping it because he ran after it
to make a swing at it. Uh. Then they said
that that he wasn't dq. But this is typical the
U s j Uh. They get very little right. Uh.

(01:47:48):
They can't run a tournament without some kind of a problem.
It just happens all the time. Yesterday they had a
couple of issues. One was Phil Mickelson and the other
one was the golf course they got away from. And
it's just a it's an absolute amateur show out there
every year. It's something you're just waiting for what it's
going to be this year. And yesterday they had a

(01:48:09):
you know, a boatload of everything. It was a mess yesterday.
You know, Hank, I gotta ask you elaborate on this.
You spend a lot of time with the players, You
know their complaints. You understand this game better than most
of us ever will what do you mean by that
that this is amateurish? What do you mean that that
this always happens? What other examples can you provide for
us that that show this amateurism. No. I mean the

(01:48:32):
U s A is a it's as an amateur organization.
They have one professional tournament to the US Open, and they,
you know, they don't know how to run it. I mean,
it's just that it's just the bottom line. I mean,
last time they played at Shinnikak, the players were putting
off the greens on the seventh hall and they had
to bring out the hoses in the middle of the
tournament and water the greens while the players were playing.

(01:48:54):
They knew they had a problem at this golf course potentially,
and they tried to walk too fine of a line
and the golf course got away from him yesterday. I mean,
it's just it's always something with with the U s JA.
I mean, whether it's a penalty situation. When when Dustin
Johnson wanted at Oakmont, uh, they decided that he should
be penalized. They go out on the golf course in

(01:49:14):
the middle of his round and and they tell him
you might be going to be penalized, but we're not sure.
And I mean, how do you how do you play
when you don't even know what your score is? Uh,
you know, he's still on the tournament amazingly enough. But
it's always something with the U. S. J I mean,
the players think the U. S A is an absolute joke. Uh.
You know, they try to be semi polite, they try

(01:49:37):
to be politically correct, but yesterday was a joke. And
you heard Zack Johnson yesterday said they've totally lost the
golf course. The golf course has gotten away from him.
It's gone. And this is Zack Johnson, who's one of
the most you know, mild manner and soft spoken guys
on the PGA Tour, and he said that, I mean,
what do you think that the guys were saying that,

(01:49:58):
you know, are the guys that really have an opinion,
but they just, you know, kind of keep it to themselves.
They know it's the U. S. G A, and it's
just pretty much the way things happen with them. I mean,
it's it's too bad it's our national championship and they
can't seem to get it right. So then today they
go out there and they water the greens a lot more,
and you know, Tommy Fleetwood shoot sixty three and he

(01:50:19):
comes out of nowhere and he may be the winner
before it's all over. But it's just, you know, allowed
today they probably over corrected for the early rounds, or
maybe they think they got it just right. I don't know,
but they changed the whole complexion of the golf course
with what what happened yesterday. I mean, it's just tainted
the whole championship. Well, Hank Handy with us and Hank,
that's really interesting because you know what I'm hearing from you.

(01:50:42):
We can all have a debate as to what we
like to see for finishing scores, whether that's fifteen under
par or even par. And we know that the U. S.
G A loves it to be the chase for even par.
And by the way, that's about where they are. But
what it sounds like to me is crazy about this
is you're telling a story that that they on an

(01:51:02):
annual basis just kind of make this up as they
go along. It sounds very reactive as opposed to confidently
stating this is what we're gonna do, and everybody's got
to go out there and play it the same way
and make decisions ahead of time. It sounds like they're
making decisions after the fact. Well, I mean, or they
make the winning score the decision ahead of time. Why

(01:51:24):
does the why why why does the winning score have
to be even par? Why do they have to to
predetermine what the winning score should be so that in
their mind quote unquote, you know, you find you give
them the ultimate tests or whatever they want to call it.
Be to me, why don you just let the guys play,
whether they shoot ten under par or fifteen under par

(01:51:47):
or five under par or whatever they shoot. I mean,
they're great players. It's the US Open, It's got so
much prestige. Just get in the way and let the
guys play. But they continually end up being the story,
and they were they were again yesterday and Kaney joining
us on Fox Sports Radio. You know, Mark and I

(01:52:07):
we've been critical of golf because much like the country
club culture around the sport, it feels a little exclusive.
It doesn't feel particularly inclusive like many sports have become
opening the doors wide open. Do you get this vibe
as well. It's just it just feels like a failure
to connect with many as opposed to trying to connect

(01:52:29):
with some the purists. Well, I mean they definitely the
purest run the game. So that's a problem. Uh. You know,
they want to tell you that they try to connect,
but they really don't. And they they're very stuffy and
in their traditions and and how they run things and
how they see things, and you know that really hasn't

(01:52:50):
changed much. So I mean, I think you're you're pretty
much right on in in that regard. I mean, golfs
an expensive game. It costs a lot of money to
build a golf course, it's built on a lot of
land that tooks pensive, it costs a lot of money
to maintain a golf course. I mean, it's never gonna
be a sport for everybody because it's just it's just
an expensive sport. The equipment's expensive. You're not going to

(01:53:10):
be any good at it if you don't take lessons.
Those are expensive, and I mean there's just certain inherent
things in the game of golf that are never gonna
gonna change. So it's just it's not gonna be for everybody,
but it could sure certainly be for more people. Hank
Haney Golf radio show, Serious x MPGA Tour Radio at
Hank Haney on Twitter, Hank great stuff. We can't let

(01:53:31):
you go though, without an assessment of what you're seeing
right now from Tiger Woods and his swing and and
his ability going forward. To contend in majors. What do
you think? I think. I think he's gonna contend in major's.
I think he's gonna win another major. I don't know
how many he's gonna win. I don't think it's gonna
beat Jack mcluse's record, but I think he's I think

(01:53:51):
he's gonna get back in the game and contend. I
didn't I didn't have him doing great at Shinnecock. I
didn't think it was a great course for him, and
still a little early in this come back. He's been
out for so long, but I I feel pretty good
about I mean, at the end of the week, the
players will be one guy that wins the US Open,
and everybody else will just kind of say, hey, you
know it, when't my week, move on to the next one.

(01:54:13):
I think Tiger is gonna be good going forward. He's
got some great venues coming up next year. They played
Pubble Beach, Best Page, I mean, they played some good
courses for him in the next few years, and he's
gonna he's gonna he's gonna get one. I really, I
really believe that. You know, you know, he's he's still
he's forty two years old. I mean, he's on the
back side of his career, there's no doubt about that.

(01:54:34):
But I don't think he's done. Hank, great stuff, Thanks
for jumping on today. Alright, my pleasure, guys, Thanks for
having me. Okay, Hank Haney, former swing coach Tiger Woods,
with some very candid remarks about the U s g
A and Tiger Woods. That was great. Rich is in
for Jim Jackson. It's Mark and Rich on Fox Sports
Radio and the given go is next. All right, we're live,

(01:54:59):
and the guy go Fox Sports Radio Studios down the stretch.
They come in the US Open and kept get trying
to hold him off. He's won over Fleetwood's in the clubhouse.
Two over read DJ Fee now all at three over,
two shots back, three holes to play. All it takes
is one trip into the thick stuff and everything could change.

(01:55:21):
And we absolutely could still see a playoff, which is
no longer. Come back tomorrow and play a whole round,
which is good. Remember that used to be the rule
for the US Open. If you're tied, come back tomorrow,
play eighteen more holes when everybody's at work. I think
it's a bizarre two playoff holes, right, well, I think
it's two playoff holes and then if you're still tied,
then you know it's getting finished. Oh yes, oh yeah.

(01:55:44):
They will finish today out there in the Hampton's we
will finish today as well when three o'clock Pacific comes,
when six in the East comes, which is coming soon,
so that means it's time for the give and go.
Let's go, given, give, go go. Here's giving go alrighty,

(01:56:07):
one more trip into the foxhole with our buddy, David Gaston. Buddy,
let's close this thing out in style. Will start things
off with a favorite from Robert Gara. Fair or foul? Now,
you guys know, because you've been listening to a lot
of trending reports. Today Mexico got the better of Germany
today one nil. What you did not know until now

(01:56:27):
is a German newspaper printed on the front page. Sorry,
Mexico today we build the wall. Fair or foul, gentlemen,
that's totally foul. I mean not just completely foul. You know.
The one thing that is still difficult for me with

(01:56:47):
soccer is that too many fans make ethnicity, race, geography
part of the story. I understand if your love for
your nation is what drives your fandom, But I don't
understand if that means you need to start knocking others
from other countries down. We know about the monkey screams

(01:57:10):
in Europe, things like this. That stuff has got to
get the hell out of the game, and this to
me qualifies as one of those things. Yeah, you know,
I'm definitely riding that same, that same track with you, Mark,
but I will say this, Uh, you should respond in kind,
you know. So if you're gonna say, Okay, our wall
is built on the backs of great play by our

(01:57:31):
national team defeating Germany, your wall Germany was taken down
by Hasselhoff. Down those walls will playoff Rich. Let's go
back to you on this one. Too. High profile NFL
wide receivers are having a very difficult offseason. Julio Jalens
in Atlanta is holding out for three years still left

(01:57:52):
in his contract and catching almost zero flak four it. However,
in New York, Odell Beckham Jr. Is also looking for
a new deal. But he's coming off a brutal ankle
injury and he's still gonna want to participate in training camps.
So with all that being said, Odell Beckham Jr. He's
getting zero credit for this. How much you think is
reputation mattering for both of these wide receivers and then

(01:58:15):
also the market, oh hugely, and they'll probably get paid
differently and have because of their reputation. So Odell Beckham Jr.
Signed the most lucrative shoe deal a receiver has ever
signed with Nike. The reason for that is because he
has this reputation as this outlandish I'll break the rules sometimes,
bad guy who will try to revive the football to

(01:58:37):
life in the end zone or even fight with a
kicking net. You'll see me do all of it. Just
give me the money and I'll keep dealing it well.
Julio Jones has been relatively quiet. He's been in Atlanta.
That's not complete obscurity. They've gone to a super Bowl together,
and he's done some phenomenal things. But if you're just
gonna scale this thing's person to person who's making more

(01:58:57):
noise on the national stage, it is Odell in New York.
It's not Jones in Atlanta, So of course he's gonna
have more expersions casted against him for anything he does.
Another example in life of reputation mattering. It it just does.
It's like if Draymond Green yells at a ref and uh,
I don't know, Mono Genobli yells at a reff, the

(01:59:19):
ref is gonna have a different reaction. Okay, So that's
the truth. Now the other part of your question, though,
is is it fair? No? I've always wondered this about
guys like an Odell Beckham. I feel like Randy Moss
kind of was painted this way when he was a pro.
You know, Randy, you were a teammate, you loved him.

(01:59:40):
Like Odell Beckham, supposedly, the really really awful things that
he's done are fight with a kicking net. Uh, take
a picture on a boat with some friends, and have
pizza with a girl at a hotel. Well not just
with which which could have been longer connection, or sugar.

(02:00:05):
Maybe they were making pastry. In other words, I'm not
saying he's perfect, but so far we've got proof of
nothing on no doubt, that matters nothing to the hardwood Courtney.
NBA s a memo on just a couple of days
ago saying that the one and done rule could be
eliminated as early as which would allow high school players

(02:00:28):
once again the opportunity to jump straight to the pros
mark good idea or bad idea. It's a good idea.
It should be done immediately. I understand why it's not
going to be done immediately because they want to make
sure that they're compliant and they want to make sure
that they do this, uh in a perfect legal form,
So that makes sense. But yes, it's just Look, basketball

(02:00:49):
is a sport unlike football, where somebody in theory can
come straight from high school to the pros and play
very well right away. I know a guy by the
name of the bron James who did just that. So
why should somebody be disallowed from becoming a professional when
they're qualified and making money at the right time. And

(02:01:11):
on the other side of it, they go to college
for six months, they build absolutely no tie with that
fan base or that school, and it just kind of
feels flimsy and like a joke. So yeah, I'm I'm
thumbs up on this. Yeah, I'm thumbs up on it too.
It's interesting timing though. You notice how we're sitting here
in after this FBI scandal, but double digit either in

(02:01:33):
within the ranks of college hoops or just on the
outside fringe characters in in handcuffs. This is This is
an interesting time in basketball. I think college basketball is
going to circle the wagons here and try to figure
out a plan over the next three years, because if
they don't, this is going to be a huge black
eye to their sport because you're gonna see a ton

(02:01:55):
a ton of high school prospects either enter the minor
leagues of basketball or the pros themselves. Yeah, Gascon, I
can roll with it, but college basketball is in trouble.
Fair enough, guys. One last thing. NBA Draft is on Thursday.
There's reports the Suns at one, Sacramento at two, Memphis
at four, all want to trade their picks for one
maybe Kauahi Leonard don't do it. Which are these three

(02:02:16):
teams would be willing to trade and who do you
think is most likely to do it? Sacramento if is
the one who actually might do this. It's a bad
idea for all of them, though. Yeah, well I would
say Sacramento, Southern California, where kuaias roots would probably make
the most sense. Well, this is just something lady would do. Yeah,
he would do this. Yeah, Um, he shouldn't do He
should not do this. Don't ruin our NBA. We're moments

(02:02:40):
away from Kauai, Lebron and Paul George all in l A.
Don't screw it up, Sacramento,
