Dead Ends

Another week of us scratching our heads and wondering how did we end up with these plotlines? We make lemonade out of some lemons this week. We discuss the show brushing over huge details, why Betty is the more accurate Marlow, FP as sheriff, Toni getting erased in her own story, Hal continuing to show up even though he has no business being here, and why Archie feels so disconnected from the rest of the show.

We hit some low points this week as Riverdale picks up from a midseason break and starts spinning its wheels. We discuss the long awaited bear attack, the increased separation between our main characters, Archie refusing to learn the right lessons, Jughead crossing lines and scolding the serpents, Betty living through hell (but trying her best to change it), and Veronica and Reggie's romantic pairing.

Riverdale gets really ridiculous and we’re having an extra good time with it (with some big caveats). We discuss Hiram’s strange plan, Archie trying to get himself killed, connections to East of Eden and Death of a Salesman, Veronica’s big casino night, the haphazard storytelling of the Sisters of Quiet Mercy and the history of women’s incarceration, and spotty character writing.

Things are constantly happening on Riverdale but this week things are really popping off. We have a prison break, Jughead getting way into G&G (and then forgetting about it), Archie leaving town and Betty getting to the bottom of all the parents fishy behavior. It’s the hot new thing in town; Gryphons & Gargoyles. People are saying kids are dying from it & have even gotten hurt in the past. They’re saying it’s so addicting and is enabling kids to hurt each other. I hope none of the parents have a super secret past playing this thing…

It’s good to be back in Riverdale! We cover Archie’s trial and subsequent jailing at the super max juvenile prison. We also discuss the supposed accuracy of juvenile court, Alice’s turn into the crunchy movement, FPs slutty little glasses, Griffins and Gargoyles, and how everyone’s shirt is constantly popping off.

Another fantastic week of Riverdale and we get a good discussion out of it!
